En Nombre del Amor, November 19, 2009--Now There Are Two Homicidal Crazies on the Loose in Real del Monte
Repeat of Romina asking Carlota how she managed to get the fake test results and Romi telling her that she already told Paloma about the results. Romi assures Carlota that she’s going keep Emiliano and he’ll never have another woman that isn’t her.
Diana storms over to Rafael’s apartment but the maid tells her that Rafa and Emil aren’t there. Di looks around and says she’s looking for a sweater that she left there. She notes that her “ex marido” brings his girlfriend there but the maid hasn’t seen any women’s things there and has never seen Rafa with anyone. Di thinks to herself that she’ll have to give him a divorce, but she’ll make his and his girlfriend’s life miserable.
Crazylota drives along about as fast as a golf cart and laughs about how Paloma’s heart must be broken, just like when her mother learned that Cristobal was dead. But I can’t kill everyone now, can I? Well, there are different ways of killing, Carlota thinks, and from now on Emiliano is dead for Paloma, just like Inaki.
Monica and Camila talk about Rafael and something about why are men so unstable (unreliable?), and if Rafa thinks he can have his cake and eat it too, he’s quite mistaken. Romi shows up and shows Cami the test results. Romi wonders why Cami is surprised that the baby is (allegedly) Emiliano’s--did you think that I was going around with two guys at the same time, like you? Cami informs her that she did no such thing, and neither one is in her life now. Cami wants to know why Romi retrieved the results herself, when they had agreed that they’d go with Emiliano, plus he called the house that morning to ask about it. Romi thinks that means he must really want the baby and says she just wanted to know before anyone else--she has a right since she’s the mother. When Romi insists that she’s going to marry Emil ASAP, Cami mentions that a forced marriage won’t bring happiness and offers to support Romi if she wants to be a single mother. Romi vows that Emil is going to love her like he’s never loved anyone else.
Padre Juan Cris and Chava talk to a bunch of girls to try to convince them to take painting classes. Cris gets them to agree to give it a try and if they don’t like it, they’ll find something else that might interest them.
Emiliano mopes into the office and asks to speak with Orlando. Orly tries to assure Emil that this continues to be his job, his business, and that’s not because he’s his son, but because he earned it. But Emil can’t see him the same as he did before. Orly points out that they were friends first--let's continue being friends and business partners, and if later you can see me as a father, I’ll be very happy. He asks Emil to let him be near him.
The mope-a-thon continues with Paloma at school. Liliana tries to cheer her up to no avail. Paloma declares that she’s not going to fall in love ever again. She runs off crying, then stops to call Angelica to request a shoulder to cry on.
Emil tells Orlando it’s hard to work with the man who’s capable of hitting his mother. Orly swears again that he didn’t lay a hand on her and gives Emil the news about the call he got telling him to go see Diana and that it was from Ines. Cris is going to talk to Ines and convince her to tell the truth.
Speaking of Ines, she’s in the dispensario when Cris comes in and says hi. She stupidly tries to run and hide. He asks what’s going on with her and Diana. She agrees to tell him, but under the seal of confession.
Rafa talks with his lawyer about reaching an agreement with Diana about a divorce. The lawyer says it was dangerous for Rafa to mention to Di that he’s in love with someone else, but Rafa says it’s no problem, he can’t be with her anyway (oh, the things we do for our kids). After the lawyer leaves, Rafa runs into Camila. She’s upset and accuses him of going back to Diana. Rafa insists that he loves her and grabs her and kisses her. Mientras tanto, Di just happens to be walking by and sees everything. Camila breaks off the kiss and tells Rafa that she’s tired of this situation. He tries to explain, but she reads him the riot act--she already knows about Emil not being his biological son, etc., and if she was important to him, he would have confided in her, but instead he ignored her. She announces that it’s definitely over between them and walks away. Back to Diana, who basically cries “Et tu, Camila?” and wonders how she didn’t realize it before--she has flashbacks of seeing the shawl in Rafa’s office, etc. “I’m going to kill you, Camila! I’m going to make your relationship with Rafael hell!” Considering that just by refusing to divorce Rafa she made his and Camila’s relationship hell, I’m not sure what else she thinks she can do to worsen it, but whatever.
In the confessional, Ines claims that Diana made her beat her up but Cris doesn’t buy it--nobody can make a person do something he doesn’t want to. He tells her that she has to tell Emiliano and Orlando the truth about what happened.
Romi sees a lady with a baby and shudders like she’s grossed out. She calls Emiliano and he says he wants them to go get the test results. She asks him to come over at 7.
Meche runs up to Cristobal outside the church to worry about Chava coming home drunk last night. He tells Meche to have Chava come see him. Blah, blah, blah, I don’t think anybody cares about this storyline.
Carlota pays a visit to the monsignor in Pachuca. She’s really worried about what’s happening in Real del Monte and wants to speak to the bishop. He explains that the bishop went to Rome and will return soon. He tries to get her to spill the beans but she claims it’s so delicate that she only would dare to speak of it with the bishop. She asks that he let her know when the bishop returns and not to mention to anyone that she came.
Camila returns to her shop and tells Monica what happened with Rafael; she vows not to shed another tear over him, she’s not going to waste energy on someone who can’t be with her.
As Carlota walks down the street a little kid runs up to her and puts his hand out; with a roll of her eyes she gives him a coin. What was the point of that--did he do something for her that was edited out? Anyhoo, she thinks to herself that she’s going to achieve Cris’s dream of leaving the priesthood--what he couldn’t enjoy as a man with Macarena he’ll have with her. Not only will he have a house in which to live and eat, but also one with a *very* warm bed. Ewwwwwwww. Well of course it will be warm, because it will be in hell!
Cris stops by to see Natalia--more of the same stuff about him not wanting to leave town without making sure that Paloma’s taken care of. He comments that things are always happening with the Purple One--she’s worse than the devil.
German informs Rojas via telephone that Carlota’s papers still haven’t arrived and asks what’s so important about them anyway. Rojas tells him to keep out of it.
Alonso shows up at Natalia’s house.
Diana arrives home all crazy mad and asks what does that woman have that I don’t have--a business, money? Well yeah, DUH. She gets out a couple of Rafa’s suits and declares that she’s going to play the victim with Emiliano and Romina and make them hate Camila and Rafa, and then proceeds to shred and stab the suits with a knife or something that just happened to be sitting on her dresser next to the porcelain figurines. Sounds like the kind of decorating tip Carloca might suggest.
After Cris takes his leave, Natalia explains that he was there because of the investigation they’re doing with Dr. B. and Rufi. Alonso says that considering what happened with him, he doesn’t have a right to ask for explanations. He’s there because he misses her.
Emiliano tries calling Paloma but when she sees it’s him, she turns off the phone. Montage of Paloma moping and crying about town, Emil moping in his office, and Romina shopping for baby clothes (all of a sudden she likes babies now, when 5 minutes ago she was gagging at the sight of them? Anyway, shouldn’t she be shopping for maternity clothes first?).
Orlando goes to see Camila at her shop--he misses her and needs a friend. He invites her out to dinner and she agrees.
At the dispensario, a guy in a hat and bow tie named Juancho (I’m guessing he’s the secret admirer) brings some blankets and compliments Ines for being so giving of her time to the community. He asks if something’s worrying her, but she’s not sure if she can tell him, because did something she’s ashamed of and she has the fear of God and is afraid of being rejected by people. Juancho tries encourage her to accept that one can make mistakes, but can also correct one’s errors.
Romi visits her father and tells him that she’s going to marry soon and he’s going to be a grandfather.
Angelica tries to comfort Paloma, who laments that her wedding plans have gone down the tubes again and she’s alone *again*, without love. She vows that as soon as she graduates, she’s leaving . . . for how long, you ask? PARA SIEMPRE.
Samuel is worried--not about Romi sleeping around, but about being such a young grandpa because he’s still a galan. He doesn’t want to be called “abuelo”. Romi wants him to get her mom to pay for a super huge wedding. She asks how things are going with her mom (“Bad” is the response) and tells him he has to win her back.
Paloma tearfully shuffles into the living room and gives Carlota the news about Emiliano being the father of Romi’s baby. Carlota says “I told you so” and tells Pal that Emil is off limits now. Pal swears that she’s going to keep the promise she made, which was to stay away from Emil if he turned out to be the father. Carlota tries to cheer her up by telling her that Rufi made her favorite cake, the one her mom used to make, which just makes Pal cry even more.
Romina flounces home and announces that she needs Cami’s help to make dinner for Emiliano but Cami doesn’t think it’s a good idea--he's not going to be happy upon hearing the test results. Romi doesn’t get why, so Cami once again has to explain how Emil doesn’t love her and all that. Romi says that if Cami’s not going to help her, she doesn’t want her to get in her way either. Camila (finally) tells Romi off--you're not the only one with problems, I have problems too. Romi tells Cami not to be there tonight because Emil’s coming over, but could she have dinner ready for them before she leaves? Camila yells no way, make it yourself.
Diana barges into Emiliano’s office and whines that Camila is the other woman. Emil just glares at her--he doesn’t want to talk with her about that, or about anything. She complains that Rafa is deceiving her and Camila; he points out that she’s deceiving him and both his dads. Good morning Deb. You write wonderfully but I just couldn't bear to read every paragraph...too painful (the story, not your prose!) Hope you saw Gancho last night before you watched this. It was especially hilarious.
RoMEMEMEna and Carloca are both living in fantasy worlds. Not only do Emiliano and Chris not love them, but what they feel about them must border on hate.
By the way it looks, Diana will be the next member to hook up with the Mean Girls.

Camila long over due telling RoMEna off keep it up. The actress playing RoMEna is wonderful with her portrayal showing us great range of RoMEna's emotions.
I knew Diana was bad too when set up the true father of your child for embezzlement and he goes to prison for it. You're not nice.
So glad Emiliano realizes what a horrible mother he has. He needs to stay away from her too.
So it seems Carloca plan is to get Cris thrown out of the preisthood.

I'm as tired as anyone else of seeing Paloma weep, sigh and mope but I'm still on Team Pal because of all that's happened to her and how young and vulnerable she is. And really, in this latest disaster, it was Emiliano who should have grown a pair, so to speak. He's the one at fault for agreeing under any circumstances to marry a woman he does not love, and especially at the cost of losing the real love of his life. What's worse is that Romina doesn't show any signs of really caring for him. For her it's just about winning and possessing him. She's very much like Diana, who doesn't love Rafael but cannot bear to lose him or see him happy with anyone else.
O.K., I would like to see Paloma end up with Emiliano, happy and dressed nicely and not like an overgrown dorky kid. She's a beautiful girl and looks stunning with her hair down. I'd like to see Liliana with (a reformed)German. She loves him and Romina does not. As for Romina, don't laugh, but maybe she and Aaron could get together. He seems to have repented already and I don't think she's a lost cause. Of course, there's the matter of the baby but I don't have a solution for that.
As for the real villains, I can't bring myself to wish death even on a make believe character, but I'd like to see Crazyloca in a prison manicomio with Diana as her loony-mate.

As Emiliano has now shunned Diana (along with the rest of the population), and as Diana is soon to lose her only ally (Inez), it might be time to take up residence elsewhere. It's unfortunate that Diana seems infused with a fresh supply of anger and vengence, sure to be meted out to poor Camila.
Alonso's return certainly did not spark any joy from Nat.

I don't see RoMEna with Aron at all, and he left town already. I think he's too ashamed of what he tried to do to Paloma to come back. We'll see what happens.

He'll sacrifice his great love for Paloma, so he can be there for his child. Once he finds out RoMEna lied about him being the father and had the results tampered with all bets are off.
Throw in RoMEna being locked up too, she's just as sick as Carloca and Diana.

There were two enjoyable parts last night. Camila really telling RoMEna the truth. I just about choked when she asked Cam to fix dinner for her big meeting with Em.
The other one was Em telling Diana he didn't believe Orly beat her up. I'm getting really sick of Ines. The whole guilty cabaret singer angle is ridiculous. I certainly hope she disavows the lie about Orly soon.
Would someone be able to post a heading and link for comments on tonight's episode?

Thanks everyone for your comments, and a belated thanks to Maggie, Julia and Gloria for your fun recaps this week. I'm not really enjoying this novela much (I find it rather dull right now) but reading your recaps is always a treat.

So funny and paraphrasing a bit:
After Chris is booted from the priesthood, Carloca will offer Chris a place to live and eat and a "very" warm bed. Ewwwww. Of course it's warm because it will be in hell. LOL.
And your observations: Crazylota drives along as fast as a golf cart as she laughs about Pal's broken heart.
And Diana;s "Et Tu, Camilia?" when she figures out Cami is the other woman. So it seems Diana wants to kill Camilia and is slashing poor Rafi's suits to shreds. Yes, we may have another homicidal crazy on the loose in picturesque Real del Monte.
Samuel is so narcissistic that he doesn't want to be seen as old enough to be an abuelo and Romi doesn't want to loose her girlish figure due to her pregnancy. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

One great this about this (currently mostly dull and tragic) novela is that the funny moments are so unexpected, they're like triply funny. When Inés tried to hide from Cris...best laugh I'd had all day.
Of course, your recap was way way better, Debbie. I especially liked "of course Carlota's bed will be warm; it will be in hell."
Yes, Emiliano is an idiot and he should never have agreed to marry Romina, but to defend him very very slightly (though he's still a moron), he was really quite sure the baby couldn't be his (as we know is true).
I don't think Romina overcame her baby revulsion when she went clothes shopping. I think the cute tiny clothes are just visual aids for her "let's get married!" presentation to Emiliano.

Good point, Julia. I hadn't thought about Romina using the "visual aids" on Em. I thought she actually had had a very faint motherly instinct. I'm sure you're right.

I liked the maid at Rafa’s apartment – she had a lot of sass.
Jackie, you mentioned Paloma with her hair down… just last night I wondered why we’d never seen that. Have we? Or was it back in Guapos? Anyway, last night I also got all focused on her hairdo. It’s pulled back so tight, but she doesn’t seem to have a regular ponytail held by a rubber band. I was trying to figure out how her hair was held up, but it’s hard to look closely when I’m so glued to the captions!

I haven’t found this show boring because I’m fascinated by how the writers keep the plotting so tight, and how they introduce twists and turns so artfully. I don’t know how they can keep it all straight, and how they were able to plan it all in advance so it works out perfectly without having any long dull stretches of filler. This is the first show I’ve seen that isn’t stupid either throughout or in places. Also, I enjoy the acting and the photography, and the scenic area. The music I’m not so thrilled about.
Maggie i agree ENDA is not boring but the writers have over killed on the making Paloma suffering. So we now hopefully will see her get a backbone and stop being manipulated by Carloca and RoMEna.
I want to see what Carloca does when Paloma tells her she wants to leave Real de Monte forever. All her stupid and evil plotting has not turned out like she thought it would.
She has made Paloma so miserable, now Paloma wants to leave and we all know she needs Paloma to stay.
I really think while Carloca had money like Mac she doesn't have as much as Paloma's inheritance. I get the impression that she used all her own money up too.
I also like Rafael housekeeper, she didn't back down from Diana one bit.

Maggie, I agree about Pal's hair. I worry she'll be bald at the front from all that tightening. It might be uncomfortable for her. They might let her wear her hair differently from time to time, at least after she returns from her day at school. And by the way, when are they going to start planning her upcoming graduation party which is weeks away, I presume.
Also for me, this novela is more enjoyable than some others as it is less predictable and is moving at what I consider a fast pace even though it does seem to be one long mope-a-thon (LOL) on Pal's part. Things are resolved surprisingly sooner than expected. I hope it won't be predictable in having Emo marrying Romi but I wouldn't bet on it. And Emo and Pal are acting like idiots part of the time but any not more so than the usual novela leads except for the MEPS heroine whose name I've forgotten. I remember now, Fernanda, the only heroine with gumption.

Maggie, there was a scene when Paloma was in a nightgown or other bed clothes and she had her hair loose and it framed her face softly. I thought she was just gorgeous. She's kind of tall (like me) and sometimes looks awkward in her little-girl outfits.
There are one or two stalls along the way and the boring Chava line, but otherwise this novela is a standout in how quickly some plotlines are revealed. I was going to give up on it, but am drawn to the characters and the acting and pacing. I'm sorry to say that I just couldn't get into Sortilegio despite the appeal of William Levy. I don't care for the characters the way I do about my Real del Monte friends.

I think they could ease up on the "Paloma is Tortured" a bit by developing some of the side plots more. For example, didn't it seem at one point like Monica was going to have an interesting back story and maybe stuff would happen with her? Dating Joel or something? But it's been weeks and her only role is still only to nod sympathetically at Camila. Also there is still that whole group in Mexico City who are variously connected to Ange, Samuel, and Natalia, many of whom seem to know each other.
TV y Novelas keeps referring to our show as a "traditional" telenovela. I'm not sure what that means, but I'm guessing that it means one long unrelieved melodrama with lots of suffering.
Jackie the only reason i'm sticking it out with Sortilegio is William Levy. I said this before on the Sortilegio recap i do not know why Carla Estrada has so many villains running amok in that novela but some times it's too much to take.
The people who are supposed to be good are so annoying and stupid with their behavior it's hard to root for them at all. I'm talking about the supporting actors and one of the leads.
I agree that ENDA has to be the first well written novela to date that i have seen. I have seen a lot of novelas. So i really applaud the writers for giving us an intelligent novela. We just wish Paloma was written like Fernanda from MEPS though.
