Sortilegio, 11/27/09 - Paying the Devil His Due; Victoria’s Blinders Come Off
The redux in brief: At the hospital Alex tells Dr. Hernan that he’s thinking of getting another house for him and Mary Jo to live in once they get back to Merida. Hernan agrees that would be the most sensible thing to do. Back at Casota de Lobos y Locos, aka, the lunatic Lombardos’ Estate, in a most satisfying “Shut up, Raquel!” moment which Viewerville pauses to savor, Felipa informs Raquel that if she continues harassing Victoria about her adulterous affair with Antonio, she will have to tell Vicky that her daughter is screwing around on hubby Roberto with Ulises. (Ah, Felipa! God has blessed you in your old age. You are now sage rather than senile. We are not worthy.) Felipa walks off and leaves the rankling Raquel simmering in sh!t stew.
Fernando, for once looking buff in a beefcake-enhancing tee-shirt, is undercover on his intelligence-gathering mission for Alex. (Note the expensive shades.) He arrives at Meche’s barrio just as she is returning from the hospital in an ambulance to the cheers of the neighbors with smiling brother, Gabriel. Nando listens as Meche tells Juliana that a Sr. Lombardo was footing the bill for Gabe’s operation. Nando stops one of the men in the crowd to ask if he knows Gregorio Diaz (Erick’s cousin). The man, sporting a Ché beret, says he does and points out the house. Nando gives the guy a line about owning a carpenter shop and looking for a good cabinet-maker. He finds out that Diaz drives an 18-wheeler for a living [a “trailero”]. Duhn-duhn-duhn-duhnnn! Nando’s nose crinkles up as if a chunk of grey matter might actually be firing up a few deduction receptor sites. (We can only hope.) The neighbor says if Nando wants to, he can check with Diaz’s wife, the best friend of Meche who is also the sister of the young man who was run over. (I suspect this may be a bit too much information for Nando to process all at once.) Fernando says thanks, but he can’t use him and then leaves right after.
Once Gabe and Meche are settled back in their little place, Juliana asks her what they did with the envelope of money. Gabe tells her they gave it back. Juliana starts fishing for more details. Meche tells her that they didn’t need the money since the other man was paying for everything and the girl turned herself in. Juliana wonders if the man who left it was mad, but Meche couldn’t say because she gave the money to Erick to give back.
That night at home, Juliana asks her husband if he thought Erick actually returned the money. He says more likely the puny wuss [canijo] pocketed the money for himself and the other guy doesn’t even realize it. He is ready to give Erick a piece of his mind for not sharing a bit of it with them since they were the ones who told him about Gabe.
Meanwhile, Alex heads back to the hospital to tell MJ that she’s going to be released the next morning and that he’s taking her and her family back to Merida with him. MJ objects and says she’d rather stay in Saqui and that her family can take care of her till she’s well enough to work. Alex refuses to hear of it since she’s pregnant and, as the wife of a rich man, namely him, there’s no reason for her to return to work. He also insists that as his wife her place is under the same roof with him. She can’t stand the thought of dealing with all the gossip and the intrigues again and rolls her eyes.
Alex reminds MJ that he promised to get her a new house to live in apart from his family, though she was probably too out of it at the time to remember. He adds he’ll find Pedro a job at Lombardo Construction in his former line of work as an accountant and will see that Paula returns to school. Mary Jo wonders if he’s still going through with the divorce. Alex asks her if that’s what she really wants; she says she’d rather not. He says then it’s settled and they won’t bring it up again. She tells him she is still scared to go back home with him. He promises it will only be for a few weeks. His Mama calls just then. He tells her all is fine and that he and MJ will be coming back the next day. She asks if the rest of the family will be coming back with them.
By Alex’s tone, it’s obvious to Mary Jo that Victoria really doesn’t want either her or her family there again; and she doesn’t know how she’s going to deal with it all. She insists her upbringing is so different from his. Alex tells her that love will conquer all.
Back at the manse, Felipa tells Vicki it’s pretty obvious she doesn’t want MJ back there again. Vicki says Alex would rather turn a blind eye [hacerse la vista gorda] because he’s in love, but she can’t forget the girl had arranged a rendezvous with another man and that she lied so viciously about Bruno. Vicki doesn’t trust her as far as she can throw her, so no, she’d rather not have her return with Alex.
Across town, Katia comes to visit Lisset. Lis tricks Katia into admitting she went to bed with Bruno and giving her all the juicy details while she secretly records their conversation on her cell phone; but when Maura gets back later and has a chance to listen, she screams at Lis because Bruno’s name isn’t mentioned once during the whole recording, so it’s useless to them. Maura angrily tells LIs she’ll just have to do the thing herself.
MJ tells her father and sister that she’s agreed to go back to Merida with Alex. Pedro tells MJ once Pau leaves the room that he’s decided they’re too much of a hassle for her so they will stay back in Saqui. MJ, he says, will have her child and her husband to worry about now. MJ would rather not leave him like that, but he convinces her that it’s for the best. They share a good cry together.
In the hospital cafeteria, Alex and Hernan discuss Vicki’s less than enthusiastic response to the news that he intends to bring Mary Jo and her family back to Merida with him. Hernan says Alex needs to understand that Vicki is probably upset because of all the turmoil in the family since MJ entered the picture. Alex tells him that the family will have to understand that they love each other and are expecting his child. They will just have to get used to it and that’s that. Hernan changes the subject to his romantic interest in Victoria and his hopes that Alex has no objection. Alex tells him it’s totally up to Vicki to decide. Alex artfully sidesteps the mention of Fernando as possible competition when Hernan brings it up, saying Fernando’s his best friend, a great colleague, and that he’s like a brother to him. Hernan is quick to add that that being so, Fernando is also young enough to be Victoria’s son. (Bingo!) Alex says he refuses to interfere with his mother’s decisions in her personal life and matters of the heart. He’s fine with Hernan or whoever else she chooses. (Hubby and I share a snicker and wonder if Pedro and Chucho would be included in that “whoever.” Fat chance.)
Chucho returns to the hospital waiting room. Pedro’s looking down in the mouth and explains MJ is going back to Merida with Alex but he’s chosen to stay because he can’t deal with having to depend on his SIL for everything the rest of his life. It’s not dignified. Chucho doesn’t think it matters to Alex, who’s oozing with money, and feels it shouldn’t matter to Pedro then either. Pedro and he return to the apartment so Pedro can rest up a bit. Chucho tells Pedro he has something in mind. Chucho can make pottery, so with the money Alex has given him he wants to start a little business in Merida. He says he could use Pedro as a bookkeeper. Pedro would be able to be close to Mary Jo without feeling he’s in the way. Pedro says thanks, but no thanks. Chucho warns Pedro that the only thing he is going to earn carrying other people’s heavy bags is a broken back.
In her hospital room, meanwhile, Mary Jo explains to Alex about her father’s decision to stay in Saqui with Paula. Alex doesn’t see how the old man can make it on his own and says the real issue is that the two families don’t get along. Mary Jo says it was her father’s choice and if he’s more comfortable in Saqui they should respect his decision. Alex gives in against his better judgment and says the door’s open anytime they change their minds and decide they want to come back to Merida.
Paula throws a tantrum when she finds out that she and Pedro are not going back to Merida to live with Mary Jo and Alex. She has a fit because now MJ gets to live in the mansion while they can barely get along with the few centavos they’re able to bring in. Pedro tells her to get her feet on the ground, to realize that is the life they’ve got. Aside from all the jams they’ve been in while living with Alex’s family, he says, he refuses out of principle to scrounge off Mary Jo and her husband any longer. (Well, now we know where MJ gets it from.) Chucho mentions the little pottery business he had in mind to Paula, but that just makes it worse as far as she’s concerned. “Selling trinkets on street corners while my sister lives in a mansion?” (Maybe Pete feels like wearing a hair shirt and crawling on his knees on some pilgrimage to the Vatican to assuage his sense of guilt, but why drag Pau along?) Material Sis is in revolt. “What a freekin’ come-down!” (Amen to that!) She races out of the room in a rant.
That night Bobo, Uli, and Meowra get together for drinks at their favorite watering hole. Mau is griping to the others that Lis botched the recording of Katia telling her about sleeping with Bruno because she never once got Katia to actually mention Bruno’s name. Uli says at least they got the details and that should be enough to pressure him with. Bobo disagrees. He says Bruno’s too smart for that. As soon as they try to threaten him with it he’ll call Katia and convince her to deny everything. Uli takes a call on his cell just then. Bobo seems a bit suspicious as he watches Uli walk away to speak in private.
It’s Raquel giving Uli hell for not answering his phone or bothering to check his list of missed calls. Uli lies about being too short of minutes to call her back. She gives him the third degree about being gone all day, and says that it seems strange for somebody so short of cash to be out and about the whole time. He says he’s been trying to negotiate a bit of business. She gets to the problem at hand and tells him they’ve got to talk ASAP. He asks what’s going on. She tells him that Felipa said she saw her going in and out of his apartment a couple of times and is now suspicious.
Mau returns to their discussion about the predicament with Bruno and asks Bobo what he thinks they should do. Should they accost Bruno and tell him everything they know all at once? Bobo believes they should let Bruno take the first step since he hasn’t told Alex about them up to now. Mau’s still anxious about the whole thing and figures he’ll do it sooner or later, anyway. Bobo says to relax because perhaps Bruno’s got other things in mind right now. He asks if she knew that Bruno gave blood to save Mary Jo and her baby’s life. Mau smiles and her eyes sparkle in anticipation. She wants to know who the proud papa is. Mau drops her drink when Bobo tells her that presumably it’s Alex’s. (Viewerville watches as the camera focuses in on the smashed glass at her feet and immediately wonders if it would be asking too much for a few shards to have made their way into a couple of those unsuspecting bare toes of hers.) “Great. Now that woman is having his kid?” Mau is green-with-envy impactada.
The next morning Pedro returns for a farewell visit with MJ before she returns with Alex to Merida. He reminds her about the woman at the bar who lost her job because of the fracas he caused there. He asks her as a special favor to see if Alex could give her a job in the casota. The woman has a sick brother she’s taking care of. She’s good people and he feels guilty about her losing her job.
Meanwhile, in the visitors’ lounge at the hospital, Chucho is asking Alex what he thinks of his business proposition. Alex tells him to work things out with the head of the city market in Merida and he’ll back his pottery venture financially. Chucho calls Alex his rabbit’s foot. He says it’s important to get Pedro working again in a secure job. Now, thanks to Alex, they can be certain he will. “Old men need to prove to themselves that they’re still useful and can make their own way in life. Otherwise, life isn’t worth living.” Alex tells Chucho he’d rather Pedro do something else, but whatever, it’s fine with him. He understands.
MJ is ready to leave. Pedro and Mary Jo say their good-byes. The attendants put her on the stretcher and she, Hernan, Paula and Alex take the helicopter back to Merida.
Uli, Bobo, Raqui and Bruno watch as the copter lands. Bruno races back inside the house to complain to his mother about Alex bringing Mary Jo back there again. Vicki says they’re married so it’s to be expected. Bruno feigns being angry. He whines about all the lies that Mary Jo has spread about him. “I have a right to be upset, don’t you think?” Vicki asks him if Alex was supposed to abandon her, especially now she’s pregnant. “--And what makes you think it’s Alejandro’s child?” Vicki asks if perhaps then it’s his. Bruno says it could be his, Aguirre’s or anybody’s. (Don’t you wish about now that Bruno could be hit by stray lightening and wake up dead in Hell without his asbestos suit?) Vicki magnanimously replies, “Well, that can be determined easily enough. If it’s my grandchild and one of you is the father, then the child will be treated as such.” (Sort of makes you wonder if it weren’t if she’d put it to work in the scullery like Cinderella.)
Bruno changes the subject and asks if anyone told her there was another meeting with the lawyers that afternoon. Vicki says no. Bruno starts in with that irritating cluck of his. Vicki asks why they couldn’t have waited for Alex to get back. Bruno says well, he’s back now, right? He clucks some more. (Damn! I’d love to pull that tongue of his out of his mouth and wrap it around his obnoxious throat!) He tries a little intimidation. “—That meeting is the final one because I’m not willing to wait any longer.” Vicki looks over at Felipa who’s been observing this whole scene, quiet as a church mouse, and warns her not to say a word to anybody. (Don’t worry. Cuko may be bright, but he still can’t do more than bark.)
Mary Jo is brought in to the house (trussed up like some sort of injured football player). She looks pitiful as all get out. Vicki fusses “charitably” over her. Alex has her taken up to his room. Then Vicki fusses over Paula’s bandaged boo-boo and graciously tells her she can have her old bedroom back. Once everyone’s left, Vicki asks Hernan where Pedro is. Hernan explains that he chose to stay in Saqui and that Pau’s only there for a day to sign in at the police station (per her bail requirements) and will be returning to Saqui in the morning. She asks if that was Alex’s decision, but Hernan informs her it was their decision to stay, not his. Vicki accepts Hernan’s invitation to dinner the next evening then asks him if he was aware there was another meeting with the attorneys.
Alex comes down while finishing a call on his cell and tells them that there’s another meeting that afternoon with their lawyers. This time, though, the partners are going to be there as well. Nobody can figure out why the partners have been invited.
That afternoon while the family is getting ready to go, Bruno is at a private lunch with all the partners but we aren’t privy to what’s being discussed.
Alex checks on Mary Jo and tells her he’s got an important meeting at the office he’s got to go to. (What's up with the sling Felipa put on her? She didn't break her arm. She got stabbed in the back, for cripes sake!) In between kisses he swears to her that he adores her. He tells her there is nothing in the world that he wouldn’t do for her. MJ thinks that sounds ominous. He brushes away her fears with another kiss and tells her nothing bad is going to happen to them, then picks up his briefcase and heads out the door.
Bruno drives up to the door of Lombardo, Inc. in his sports car. Oddly enough, Erick is in the passenger seat. He asks Erick if he knows what he’s supposed to do. Erick answers in the affirmative. Bruno gets out and tells Erick to park the car and then take a taxi. He goes inside and up to the meeting as Erick drives off.
Katia runs into Mari in the reception area and finds out about the meeting. She’s practically jumping out of her skin when she finds out that Bruno will be at the meeting. She plops down on one of the couches and decides to wait for him there.
Inside the meeting room, the proceedings have started. Alex’s attorney tells the group that they’ve come to an agreement. They are dissolving the current partnership as it will now be divided into equal parts. The shares will be divided equally among Victoria, Bruno, Raquel, Alex and his wife. The other partners’ percentage of the remaining shares will stay the same. Everyone votes to agree. Alex stays out of it and simply observes. (Yawn.) Before the meeting adjourns, though, one of the partners who was at the private lunch proposes Bruno as the new president for the new partnership. (Viewerville suddenly snaps out of its post-prandial stupor.) Raqui and Bruno smile conspiratorially at each other. Bruno’s attorney suggests as this was what Sr. Bruno had requested as part of the agreement earlier, all they’ve agreed upon there will be repeated formally in front of a Notary. They take a vote on the presidency. Victoria is suddenly stone-faced. Vicki and Hernan vote against. There are then two votes for and two votes against Bruno. Alex must give the deciding vote. He votes in favor of Bruno and starts for the door.
Vicki has her epiphany. She suddenly lets out with what she’s been thinking. “This is what Bruno asked you for in exchange for giving his blood to Mary Jo!!!???” Alex looks at her and then at the floor. He exits the room. She gets up from her seat and walks over towards Bruno to accuse him. “You are a monster! A MONSTER!! Now I believe that everything Mary Jo has said about you is true, because one who profits with the life of another human being is a despicably mean, stingy, petty wretch!!” [un miserable = a word that encompasses this whole list of adjectives, and in this case, they’re all rolled into one] She turns to the group and tells them she refuses to accept anything that has gone on there during the meeting.
Bruno gets up to defend himself. “In the first place none of what you’re thinking is true. And in any case, this was an official meeting and the majority was in favor!” Vicki screams back that it doesn’t matter. She still refuses to accept any of it! Bruno is just as adamant. “Then we’re going to court!” Vicki spits back at him that that he can do whatever he wants. Seething with anger, she turns around and storms out of the meeting. Bobo sits there with his mouth open, watching Raqui’s fleeting fortune evaporate from his money-grubbing mits into thin air. Raqui jumps up in disbelieving horror. Even she can’t believe Bruno would have done such a scurrilous thing –and that’s going some. She asks if what Mama just said is true. Bruno, shall we say, is characteristically economical with the truth. “Of course it isn’t! Either she’s gone crazy or Alex has brain-washed her with that lie.” (Methinks that perhaps Bruno has cried wolf a time or two too many.) Raqui looks around the room as if the whole crowd is now sitting in judgment of her and her family. (Pobrecita! Viewerville pauses to shed a crocodile tear.)
Outside in reception Mari is asking Katia to help clean up after the meeting. (Time is money. Why does this woman waste her breath?) Katia starts to object when Vicki suddenly appears at Mari’s desk all in a tizzy, demanding to know where Alex went. Mari tells her he’s in Fernando’s office. Vicki rushes away. Katia (always eager to share with the Mexitrash Twins whatever huff-n-puff-worthy tidbits she can scrounge) gasps at a how angry Vicki seemed to be. (Like Mari is really going to give that brat the scoop.)
Nando and Alex are discussing what went on at the meeting. Nando says he’s not about to judge Alex because anybody would have done the same. (No, a savvy businessman worth his salt would have gone back on that idiotic “promise” and voted against Bruno, giving the rotten bastard a taste of his own medicine. A savvy businessman would have seen that either way the problem was bound to be decided in a courtroom because Victoria would never have allowed him to chuck what Antonio left him. Alex, hogtied by principle, couldn’t see that far ahead.) Alex finishes telling Fernando about Bruno’s demanding he divorce Mary Jo as part of the same agreement just as Vicki storms into the office.
Vicki tells Alex that she’s never been so humiliated in her life. “My adultery doesn’t even begin to compare with what your brother just did!” She screams at him and demands he tell her the truth. Alex sulks and asks what difference it makes now. Vicki is ready to shake and strangle him. (Viewerville wouldn’t mind a turn at him, either, at this point.) “--It makes a lot of difference! Somebody who would demand something like that is capable of anything! It means that Mary Jo was telling the truth: that your brother did pass himself off as you [suplantar] and he wanted to kill you!!” Fernando sticks his oar in and tells her to calm down. (Shut up, Fernando!) She screams at him that she doesn’t want to calm down. Alex lies and says Bruno did no such thing. Vicki yells back then why when Bruno originally suggested it, did he tell Bruno he’d kill him first?
Alex lies that he thought better about it. He becomes agitated. He yells back and repeats that he thought better about it. Now, he says, he only wants to live in peace with his wife and child! Vicki scoffs at him and says she doesn’t believe a word he’s saying. She turns around and asks angrily if even Fernando won’t tell her the truth. Fernando excuses himself and says the matter is not his concern [incumbencia]. She stomps her foot and tells him then he just gave her his answer because the two of them tell each other everything. “--Let me be very clear. I refuse to accept this --any of this! Like I told them all in there, I prefer to go to court!” She starts to leave but Alex grabs her by the arm and tells her to think of what that will mean. “Think of the scandal! Your past with my dad will be exposed to everyone!” “—It doesn’t matter to me!!” She chokes back tears of shame. “Bruno is depraved. He deceived me in the most brazen of ways and I, like a fool, believed all of it! But not any longer! I’m fed up!!!!” [hartar] Victoria takes a second to compose herself. “Tell the attorneys that I’ll be expecting them this evening at my house.” (Hot diggity damn! Viewerville is jumping on couches and standing on chairs in anticipation of the long overdue knock-down, drag-out that’s sure to follow.) Vicki wipes her eyes and slams the door behind her.
Alex bangs the door in frustration. Fernando asks what they’re supposed to do now. Alex has no idea. “I think somehow Bruno bribed Rojas and Alvarez because they made the motion and then voted for him.” Nando doesn’t doubt that’s exactly the way it went down. Alex plops down in a chair. “I don’t want Victoria to have to be faced with a scandal. Her health is bad.” Fernando disagrees. “Let her. Let her. Perhaps this could be her deliverance.”
Back inside the meeting it’s Hernan’s turn to criticize Bruno. “Alex led me to believe you might have asked something in return, but of course I never imagined it would be the presidency!” Bruno slams his hand down on the table and denies it again. Raqui jumps up and immediately demands to know what’s going to happen with her share of the company now. Politic Bobo informs her that the meeting was only informal and is meaningless. The attorney confirms that and says for anything to become official there has to be another meeting held with a notary present. “Yes, but my mother said she isn’t going to agree to that.” She turns to Bruno. “You see, you idiot! All because of your obsession to be president! And for what? So you could carry us all into bankruptcy? Because we all know you’re a useless good-for-nothing!” Bruno yells at her to shut her pie hole. “Be quiet, you fool!” Hernan tells Bruno to calm down. Bobo gets up and says they’d best go. Raqui says fine, they’ll go. She walks over to Bruno first to give him a final piece of her mind. “The only idiot here is you! And our mother is going to take us to court where all the family’s filthy rubbish will come out and it will be all your fault! Yours!” Bruno screams back as she’s leaving that he could care less. The meeting is adjourned for now.

I actually totally agree with Papa Pedro and Paula not going back to the Casa de Locos/Lobos. It's bad enough MJ has to go back there. If they're also there, it will only mean more ammunition that can be used against MJ by any of her enemies, and more reasons for Vicky to find fault with her. Plus, where does Paula get off somehow thinking she deserves to live in the mansion because her big sis married a rich guy? She needs to go find her own rich guy if that's what she wants!
Didn't MJ also have broken/bruised ribs or something? Even if it's just a stab wound through the back, I think those kind of injuries would make it difficult to support the full weight of an arm hanging down- hence the sling.
Vicky showed her worst and her best this episode. First being so blind with Bruno and uncharitable (despite her fake greeting) to MJ and her family. But, wow! When the light bulb goes off in her head, she really explodes! Now I see where her kids (Alex included) get their capacity to go into such explosive rages.

Alright, I'm at work. Will check in later. :)
I totally didn't get that Bratia never mentioned Bruno in the recording and was sure they had the goods on Bruno.
The meeting at the Lombardo company was excellent! I replayed Vicky's takedown of Bruno about 3 times. I was surprised Raquel didn't approve of his tactics for the blood donation. But she really twisted the knife when she told him they all knew he'd ruin the company if he got the presidency. And this from a twin!
We can only hope Vicky sticks to her guns. Daniela Romo is one of my favorite actresses. I first saw her in Las Vias del Amor where she played a simple, earthy woman who had a stand in a local market. I'd like her to assume a more positive role in the rest of this novela.
Paula sure is a little brat. Her claws were really out last night, revealing actual envy for her sister for the first time.
It was kind of funny that Chucho thought his pottery business would generate enough revenue to require Pedro's services as an accountant.
It looked from the avances as if Alex were telling MJ that he was going to abide by his promise to Bruno about the divorce. Was I dreaming that? Que the hell!!
Paula is everyone's little bratty kid sister, it's just when she starts screeching my ears start to bleed.
Pedro it's about time he stop leaning on MJ as the parent and assume his responsibilites. He has burden MJ enough already. Good also that he told Paula they were part of the reason for the problems between MJ and Alex.
Alex you have enough money could you not have hire a real detective instead detective Ferdumbo. How soon will he give Alex that information.
Katia looks like she will be gossiping about everything at the office. Ferdumbo should have gotten her a job at local McDonalds.
Felipa you got to love the old gal too bad she's not the mother instead of the companion.
Vicki really did have an epiphany but of Bruno being a monster but of her being homeless.
Even Raquel is shocked and unbelieving of how low her own twin will go too. That's saying a lot, then when she told Bruno he was worthless and good for nothing.
That's first time i was cheering the old girl on. Bravo Raquel because Bruno power trip cost you access to more inheritance money.
Ferdumbo once again you show what a idiot you are, you don't want to interfere. Now you want to keep your big fat trap shut. When all trough out you have been flapping your gums about Alex's secrets to Vicki.
Alex maybe you should have taken this stance from the beginning. Vicki really needed a serious wake up call. Please get rid of those guys on the board of directors.
If they can be bought as easily by Bruno there's no telling what else they would try.
Him divorcing her, means he can still marry her. He will really wed her now instead of Bruno acting as Alejandro Lombardo.
If Vicki sticks to her promise and lets it go to court, mad dog Bruno will be so out of luck. NO presidency and no MJ. Then we'll probably get to see that look of constipation permanently etched on his face.
Thanks for another great recap. I may try and look for it on youtube. Daniela Romo really does a great job emoting "furious" and her enunciation is so clear, even a beginning Spanish student could understand her.
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving and took no prisoners at Wal-Mart. 'At's my gal.
Loved Vicki going postal on Bruno, and even Raquel calling him a good-for-nothing. Their telenovela beanie hats finally fell off, if just for 5 minutes.
I also wondered why MJ wore a neck brace/collar for the copter ride home. Qué the ????
Maybe Dr. Carlos can weigh in on this.
What’s up with Katia wearing those blue jeans to work at Lombardo, Inc.? Not that she really wants that job , and is hoping to get fired . . .
Raquel is only worried about herself, she's smart enough to know Bruno will wreck the co. & there goes her gravy train.
Yea Vicky, go girl, finally she sees the light. Her adultery will for certain be overshadowed by Bruno's murder attempt, rape, Paula's accident set-up, just to name the more serious.
Novelera, I too thought the advances suggested that Alex was prepared to go along with Bruno's demand that he divorce MJ. Surely that won't happen...will it? Arrgh.
What is Bruno even doing at the meeting?
Alex wanted Fernando to replace him, but Fernando didn't want to cause problems, so turned it down.
Is it time to get my beanie?
Even Raquel being as shallow, hypocritical and onerous knew if Bruno gets a hold of Alex position as the president there goes the money train.
It's funny she knows her twin is a good for nothing bum, but the guys on the board of directors don't? As you guys say Que the He!!?
While he has no job there and Mari even told Bratia that he had no office at Lombardo Co, he still had some involvement since it's a family owned business. I think they said once that Alex and Vicki were majority stockholders.
The meeting was meant to change the existing percentages of ownership into equal shares for the Toxic Twins, Vicki, and Alex and wife.
LOL ITA. This is definetely not the place for her.
Why does the hero always have to be soooo honest. Really, Alex you don't have to follow through with the promises you made to that jerk. Bruno wouldn't follow through if it were him.
About the divorce, they really weren't married, so it doesn't really matter. Even if they get divorced, that doesn't stop them from being together, does it? I don't think so, and I certainly don't hope so.
I think that would make their marriage invalid. So he can divorce her now and still marry her later. I'm not sure about the legalities though. Alex needs to keep his bases covered anyway.
She is now being mention in getting part of the inheritance as Alex's wife. So if they find the judge, knowing Bruno he would probably say they are not married legally and she shouldn't be included in the inheritance.
Was i the only one who enjoyed Maura's reaction to MJ being pregnant with Alex's child.
This woman is just too over confident.
Has Alex said anything to MJ about the deal he made with the devil (Bruno)? I think she'd be totally up for the get-divorced-then-married plan, since she didn't feel like they were married before (because of that small detail that it wasn't actually Alex).
And I also loved Maura dropping the glass.
Thanks for the great recap!

I finally had my own epiphany regarding Pedro. I had often thought he was misunderstood and made bad decisions occasionally. Now, I think he consistently makes poor decisions and he views himself as a victim (even though he's the victim of his own bad decisions). I feel like shaking him and saying if you would make better decisions you would not be a burden to your SIL. Aaaugh.
And Paula... I still have sympathy for her. If I had a choice between Casa Crazy and Wealthy and Casa Poor Decisions and sometimes Crazy, I'd probably take my chances with the crazy/wealthy. I mean she has to stay with Dad b/c he's now feeling noble. He has no plan and at least with MJ and Alex, Paula was going to school. Moreover, MJ needs someone to watch her back in the crazy house and since Alex goes to work, this leaves Paula.
Based on the preview, we know Bruno will harass MJ again. My thing is even if Alex divorces MJ, MJ hates Bruno and won't marry him unless he threatens her. Bruno will have to blackmail her to marry him again and I hope I don't have to see that.
There's no way Alex will let Bruno marry MJ when she is pregnant with his child. Blackmail or not.
I see your logic with Paula but the material sis really does not come across sympathetic with her screeching. If she had remain calm and instead of having her bratty hissy fit then i would say yeah that's a good idea about her keeping guard of MJ when Alex is at work.
Paula was about MJ going back to her rich husband and servants. While she had to sell what did she say oranges by the highway or was it Chucho pottery. The material girl isn't having any of it. Boo Hoo too bad.
I really felt MJ's emotional strain and angst at having to return to that insane family of Alex's. She should have trusted her instincts and forced him into putting her up in a furnished condo somewhere--anywhere--else with a private nurse till he could find another house. As for pouty Paula, I agree that given a choice, I'd take Casota Crazy over Pauper Papa's myself. Personally, I think Pedro was being pretty selfish by demanding she stay chained to his mopey self instead of letting her go with MJ to watch out for her and to allow her to finish school so she might get her chance at bettering herself by having a career like he always said he wanted for his daughters.
She'll probably be by MJ's side simply because every galan and every heroine always has a confidante, so that they can tell Viewerville what's on their mind at the same time they're telling this person. It's never the love interest, always a friend or relative.
=====
Cielo/Novelera: I couldn't make out the previews. If Alex does tell MJ about the deal with Bruno to save her life, I can't see him giving her a "divorce" unless there's a plan behind it, especially after the huge spiel he gave her to get her to agree to return with him. What do I know, though. LOL!
==========
Anon. 4:12PM --Love the idea about buying off those crooked board members. Maybe Alex will take a "super sly" pill and it will subdue the uber good-guy parts of his personality long enough to do something like that.
============
Pirate Babe: Yeah, Pedro has his pride, but he should have still allowed Pau to go back and do something with her life, JMHO. Give the girl a goal and half a real chance and maybe the brattiness factor could be decreased by 75%. Course, she wouldn't be Pau without that greed need thing going on.
=========
JudyB: I have found a couple of new posters on Youtube with decent sound quality. Had to get my fix the last time I was on the road overnight. I caught 80-90% of the conversations aside from the Chipmunk scenes when hyper Raquel goes on one of her rants.

Carebear/Karen/Doris: The last thing we need is for Victoria to backslide. This was a Katy-bar-the-door that made the wait so worthwhile.
As for the Bratia, I actually have started to think of her as Crotchya.
Alex has not yet told MJ any of this stuff- about Bruno making demands in exchange for the blood- the presidency and the divorce. And he keeps making all these crazy, ominous comments about nothing ever separating them that are starting to make MJ ask questions. When is he planning on telling her?

I loved how Vicki instantly saw the light when Alex voted for Bruno and I loved how she went ballistic over it. Yea, Vicky! You're coming out of the scorn-corner where I had placed you for so long. Keep it up.
Even though Pedro did a good thing by not going back to Merida for MJ's benefit, he is just not a sympathetic character for me anymore. Somehow the endless helpless victim mantle he always wears and whatever secret he's carrying annoy me more each time I see him.
Probably Meche will get a job at the manse and bring her brother, Gabriel. He and Paula will become a couple, no doubt, and maybe the pieces of the Paula-driving-accident puzzle will fall into place--just speculating. Can't wait for Monday.
Seriously Alex needs to get two attacked pitbulls one for outside the bedroom door and one station outside the balcony.
They attacked anytime they hear the name Bruno.
CubsFan
While she trying to make us view it from their perspectives why they are like that. I just not buying the woe is me, what ever shall do line at all.
Jardinera, you're guess is as good as anyone else's. I'm gonna take a deep breath before watching what the writers have in store for us. Separation, to me, seems unlikely, but I won't rule out the possibility completely.
Going back to the whole pregancy crap (I skipped some of it)...so Bruno told Victoria that MJ could be pregnant with HIS child? Was he for real, or was he being sarcastic? If that's what he said, I don't think Victoria responded with enough horror. She should've been more like, shame on you, bruto! Que the heck kinda reaction is we'll love the child if it's yours or Alex's! Tisk tisk...Jardinera, from the bottom of my heart, I wish he would be struck by lightening.
After the light bulb went on, Victoria was fabulous though. A little late, but I'll take it. I don't know about you guys, but doesn't it seem completely obvious that Bruno demanded the presidency in exchange for blood? It's like duh...I told the whole world I'd never give up my position because I want to hold onto my father's legacy, I knocked the hell out of Bruno in front of the board when we last discussed it, and now I changed my mind. No, no, no! Ughhhh.
I'm actually all for Paula moving back into casa Lombardo. MJ needs someone to talk to while Alex isn't there. Despite being a pain for the ears, I think I actually like Paula. She's definetely greedy, but she does a good job of showing MJ everything that's in her face but that she can't see.
Surprises me that Raquel is surprised at Bruno's demands as well. It's like really? Even she thinks that's low? I'm actually convinced that she would do something of the same sort if she were in Bruno's place. I don't buy that there's enough good in her to see that what Bruno's doing is wrong.
HGR and Cubsfan, I am totally with you guys that Pedro isn't too sympathetic. He just causes problems, acknowledges that he's the cause, and then he does something stupid AGAIN. I am glad he's not moving back, though I'd wish he'd stay with Chucho just to make life easier for Alex.
Well lets remember she did tell Bruno not to donate his blood so MJ and the baby can die. So now we are suppose to believe she is shocked that Bruno traded his blood for the presidency.
I guess we're not suppose to use logic for that reaction. She does score points for saying that Bruno was worthless no good bum. Who will quickly have the company bankrupt in record time.
I know her driving force behind that statement was because she is concern about her share of the inheritance but still she was right on with that.
Pedro, Pedro he gets out one scrap and gets into another one. I am starting to see very clear why Elena left him. He was an accountant too, even if his company laid him off.
He still could have got work as a freelance accountant. The man has no thought process, backbone or conscience for leaning on his daughter like he has.
I hope this is the last of Pedro we see in awhile because I'm tired of watching him land in trouble, worrying MJ, allowing Alex to foot the bill, and then crying about being so dependent on everyone else. Afterwards, Alex has to hear it from the family, and MJ has to hear it from Alex. I hope we're spared the annoyance for a couple weeks at least.
I enjoyed seeing Maura drop the glass when she heard about MJ's expectant condition.
Also enjoyed Vicki's rant to Bruno and company. Let's hope she can stay in opposition to Bruno for a while.
La Paloma
I'm tire of seeing him and i'm so sorry MJ please forgive me act. It's all my fault i wasn't thinking act. It's too bad MJ and Paula did not have another relative to turn to while growing up. I am not speaking about their mother Elena.
Vicki is an author and she came off like someone quite able to call a spade a spade and make it seem so melodramatically elegant while sliming in the most foul way. It was definitely a 3-peat scene like Novelera said. I 3-peated to make sure I got it down, but I didn't want to miss a smidgeon of nuance in what she said, either.
=============
yeah her reaction is wierd though. I'm sure it does have to do with guilt over Samuel, but seriously if she believed the child could be Bruno's, at that point she should've believed all the stuff about the hotel key as well. Guess it was her last instance of being in denial, and I wanted an epiphany here as well.
Pedro is pathetic. What a whiner victim. No - he can't take a job doing accounting, he must try make everyone feel sorry for him as he lugs around ladies shopping bags.
Which brings me to Paula, no wonder she feels so victimized and entitled. She needs a dose of reality. Life doesn't owe her a mansion. Seems like she could 'turn' on MJ due to her greediness.
Now Alex disappoints. He shouldn't take MJ anywhere near that casa de locos. At least get her healed up and give her a running chance...
jb
Here are my two cents, FWIW. I don't think we've seen the last of Mario Aguirre. Bruno has taken too much trouble to pay off the "real" fake Mario Aguirre and is surely going to make use of him in the future. If team Mexitrash owns up to anyone of inventing him to fastidiar Alex and MJ and Bruno's part in it on his own, he can deny, deny, deny. I can't wait to see what he's put Erick up to.
Carla Estrada has gone to great lengths to introduce Elena and Sandra to just leave them hanging out there. They are bound to make trouble for our couple, especially if Sandra looks exactly like MJ. Kidnappings and impersonations, anyone?
Sorry to differ with the majority, but I still like Fernando (he, of course plays the same role Paula does for MJ) and hold out hope for him as a sensible soul. His ineptness and shyness around women has suddenly taken a new turn when he got the courage to tell Vic how he felt about her. (Of course, I stumbled on Gabriel Soto in QE and still feel that he should have gotten the girl.) Her responding to him in like manner is very touching. I do agree that the car scene a few capitulos back did not do the same for me as Alex and MJ's first kiss in his car.
Question to all--have men's coiffures been discussed? I mean, really, Bruno and Bobo just hang around the house all day and they are perfectly coiffed. Alex and Fer are both professional men at the top of their careers and they look like they just got out of bed--let alone a shower. Even Gabriel's hair was combed nicely.
So far, none of Bruno's intrigues have been uncovered. How much longer is this going to go on. I don't think Vic is going to stay angry with him for long if Ale & Co. don't hurry and come up with some proof. Right now, Fer is the closest to unraveling the Gabriel thing--ah so close, but yet so far. P.S. They live in a barrio in Merida, not Saqui.
Newbie in Md.
As for the comparison to Paula good one so lets examine who did Paula betray MJ's confidences to Alex and Vicki about Bruno.
The fact some of the secrets were very crucial for catching Bruno in his plots against Alex. There's no way what Paula did is even on the same level.
As soon as Ferdumbo told Vicki she turn around and told Bruno which gave him the heads up they were getting close to closing in on him and his schemes.
Also lets not forget him asking Alex after they slept together for the first time if she was a virgin. Alex should knock him in the mouth for that question.
Then also include all the times he kept telling Alex to get rid of MJ and her family they are causing too many problems in your household.
She set you up, she's using you for your money but of all think about your mother.
No way would i want this dope to be my friend. Then after doing all of that he finally says to Vicki after she realizes she raised Satan's crafty disciple that he'll keep his mouth shut. This a family matter he doesn't want to get involved in Que the What?
Yes, Pedro is a bit pathetic & annoying but not everyone can just pick themselves by the bootstraps and be entrepreneurial. We have no idea how hard it would have been for him to get a bookkeeping job. Despite everything, he is a good person, adores his kids, shows his appreciation, etc.
Bruno's clucking may be irritating as hell but I think it is creative to give characters some totally unique physical/verbal expression- an identifier, which in some cases makes you want to strangle the person.
I am shocked that Bruno didn't think to take a photo with his phone of Alex & Maura kissing at that party.
And...anonymous 11:14 YES! Nothing short of pitbulls outside MJ's door! I mean what the heck is Alex thinking, leaving her alone in that room?
HOWEVER, IF all of us bloggers got our wishes and rewrote these characters....we would have a VERY short TN, indeed!!!
Alex and Fernando need to tell Victoria everything while she's understanding. Alex, really what is Bruno going to do if you tell her everything? He can't take back the blood now, can he? Okay, he's evil, but even he couldn't do that.
Vicki wants nothing to do with a scandal about her past and what it means to how people would view her.Not to mention her belief and that she really is a good mother.
Her happiness is her self worth and image and her needs.
Bruno he wants everything Alex has and more, enjoys being rich and putting people he considers beneath him down.
Raquel well Cara you pretty much cover her in your statements. Does not want scandal, loves money and the social status she has and now has a gigolo to meet her sexual drive.
Still probably does not have a sisterly love for Alex even though now she's knows he's her half brother.Remember she was kind of obsessed with Alex herself maybe one of the reasons she's so negative towards and about MJ.
Maura wants Alex and believing because they have the same social status it was meant to be. Wants and desperately needs to be MRS.Alejandro Lombardo at all costs.
Roberto his is tied into being the side who comes out the winner in the Bruno and Alex fight for the presidency. He should know that Bruno cannot be trusted.
Useless money anyway he can get it he will do it. Even if it included murder. Right now he's sleazing and sleeping his way to get it.
Paula she wants what her sister has, believes she should reap the benefits of being the sister in law for MJ rich husband.
Ferdumbo wants to be with Vicki will betray best friends secrets just to make Vicki happy. Gives no thought of the consequences his actions did ti his best friend.
His main priority is Vicki and her delusions.
MJ her happiness is through her father and sister being secure and safe. Living in a drama free zone or location with Alex. Not accustom to being waited on hand and foot with servants.Wants to be and stay with Alex because she loves him despite the big differences between their lifestyles.
So why in the heck can't Alex be selfish himself. I loved when he told Vicki he was tired and he just wanted peace. He wants to buy a house and live in tranquility with his wife and child.
So Vicki this includes you and all of the above.
Piedro is tied with Useless at the top of my Most Irritating Male Character list.
Piedro. Get. A. Job.
Vicky seems to be willing to sacrifice her reputation right now, but I agree that she definetely spent a heck of a lot time focusing on her scandal and her Bruno, which really hurt Alex.
Like many others, I no longet have any liking for Bobo. That guys is dirty and cares zero about others.
Raquel, I already insulted today, but lemme just agree that I'm not over her old obsession over Alex. Gross.
How she would always excuse him and console Alex after wards that's what i believe she was doing when Bruno said that he could be the father.
Vicki overlooks anything and most everything Bruno has done up to her finally realizing he negotiated his blood for the presidency.
Anytime a son can call his mother a slut and a whore for sleeping with a dog who got her pregnant. Let's just say she has an overwhelming capacity to overlook a lot of what Bruno says doesn't she.
Where was her moment of epiphany then when he called her out of her name.
THAT hard on Fernando. In the beginning, who could trust MJ, she married someone that was really Bruno, and a very outrageous explanation emerged. They didn't congress???? And who wouldn't think she was involved? He also didn't want to upset Vicky with suspicions about Bruno. Fernando is now stepping up to the plate & telling Vicky his suspicions.
I don't think he will end up with Victoria, so we need a new woman, maybe MJ's twin.
Victoria has a date with Hérnan Monday night, I see those two together when Vicky realizes how ridiculous the age difference is. There would be no hijos in Fernando's future.
Well that didn't sit well with Miss Victoria. She expected him to fall all over himself to tell her the truth and he didn't.
While everyone keeps saying Alex should have played dirty like Bruno and said there was no deal. Especially since it wasn't put in writing.
When Alex said he is tired it's the truth. He's tired of dealing with Raquel and Roberto who sponges off of them.
He's tired of Maura and woman like her.
He's tired of Bruno and his schemes and plotting.
He's tired of Vicki and placating her and her delusions.
He's tired of making the board of directors of Lombardo Construction tons of money and watch how easily they can be bought or sell out for some one not deserving of his position.
Most of all he's tired of the burden his father placed upon his shoulders. Assuming the role as the head of family. Continuing the traditions of Lombardo Construction.
Plus the fight over the inheritance.
Now he just wants to live peacefully with MJ and his child. I don't blame him one bit.
But yeah, having everyone else off his case (Raquel, Bobo, etc) will be a relief. I don't think he's close to getting rid of Bruno though.
Hope all of you folks in Careytown had a joyous holiday. It certainly seems that Friday's edisode aptly fell on Black Friday. Whew!
Can't wait to read all of your comments.
She's just going out to dinner with Hernan to test the waters, wanting to see if she can generate or have the same attraction she has with Ferdumbo.
She made the dinner date with Hernan way before the board meeting.Ferdumbo after finally keeping his mouth shut is not one of her favorite people for now.
Please clarify...
Your recaps are always an intellectual joy and NO you weren’t too hard on Vicky, the gal seems to have seen the light, but how many days, months and years has it taken? Again thanks Jardineria, you are my weekend fun!
Anon 6:54 --- About Alex, you repeated many times... “He’s tired of........., He is tired of ....., He is tired of.......” I completely agree, rather than blaming the Deal with the Devil, it struck me how a large part of the reason he voted in favor of the Bruno presidency was that he is so very TIRED of all the shenanigans that both he and MJ have suffered through. MJ is pregnant with Baby Alex and subconsciously he knows that in this place and time, he, MJ and the baby are in a precarious position. He was making the supreme sacrifice, letting a part of the company that he has built into what it is today, fall into the hands of BRUNO, an upstart incompetent. He doesn’t want his toxic family history to repeat itself........ Unfortunately, WE know that nothing he does will stop “take no prisoners” BRUNO, there is much more pain for the Lombardos.
MJ, as daughter/mother, made a significant sacrifice too, she cut loose her mill stone father and money grubbing sister for Alex and the baby that she is carrying. I know that was painful for her, but she FINALLY has her priorities in the right place.
And on Pedro: RANT ALERT!
I think that Pedro is being written as a severely depressed person. His lack of personal emotional responsibility for his behavior is pretty appalling and casting himself as the martyr may be the best way he can frame his hopelessness.
That's the psychologist in me talking. The woman in me can't abide martyrs—they are so hostile and in real life are usually very passive aggressive. Elna June the woman wants to take Papacito to a tough love support group and get him called on his sh%#!
Or I could take him to Adult Behavior boot-camp and tell him to get some meds and treat his depression, get a job, cool it on the self medication with cerveza, and generally take responsibilty for his own life.
There. I feel better now...//End Rant.
Does anyone know why all the shows are from televisa? I'm sure other channels in Mexico produce telenovelas too right?
http://telenovelashunks.blogspot.com/
Good take on Pedro, I think you're on to something. Another brick in the depression wall is that he is moved to tears a lot. Yes, there is a sadness just below the surface. I prefer the Adult Behavior boot camp option.......prescription meds, less cerveza and a REAL job!
I wondered also why Pedro couldn't work if he was an accountant. What does a bum leg have to do with being an accountant? Paula makes my ears bleed too. What a little snot. I can't stand screeching. When RaMaura broke the glass I was wondering--yep, you guessed it--who was going to clean it up! I can't help it...

Love the psych comments elna june. Meds are over the counter there, so he can self-medicate I guess....

SandyTn: you're on target I think re: MJ making a sacrifice of her own.

Natalie/Connie: I hope you or someone will list the results of any Uni/Televisa shows that win! I never watch, but I always like to know if any of our crazy novelas make the cut. : > )

Does it strike anyone that true love entails trust and faith in your partner? Alex has to stop paying lipservice to loving MJ unless he can believe in his wife and base his future actions totally on the premise that MJ has told the truth from the beginning. He has enough circumstantial evidence now that he should feel comfortable doing that. It's the only thing that will sustain him through whatever future compromising situations he might catch MJ in as far as fake Mario Aguirre and Bruno are concerned. JMHO.
Yes, there has been no trust....I posted a while back that because of the strange way that MJ and Alex met and "married" that they hadn't had the courtship (old fashioned word!) that most couples use to build TRUST. They are both guilty of not trusting each other. They were thrown together and promptly developed a strong physical attraction but no REAL relationship to fall back on. I feel that they are on the right track now, but there will be more need for TN filler and so WE in viewerville have to endure the gemela and Mario Aguirre story lines and I for one dread both of them!!
I thought he was conveying all of what you wrote in your comment. He also told Vicki he was going to get a another house for his family. Knowing how Vicki is i'm sure won't take into account what Alex wants.
To protect MJ and his child that's his first priority now. Not the inheritance, the company nor Vicki and her twins anymore for him.
Elna June really tell us how you really feel about Pedro, lol there is not one word in your comments pertaining to him i didn't agree with.
Every time he's on the screen crying and sniveling i just look at him and say grow a pair already.
As self meds for him i thought he was already doing that with his cerveza.
Doesn't say much for the others that were nominated. I'm glad Diana Bracho & Guillermo Garcia Cantú won.
And imagine Quintana won????
Wow--what a weekend of GREAT comments! Y'all so rock. As do you, Jardinera. Splendid recap and snarkerisms. I am beholden to you, and so now will go to finally watch the darned episode! (Holidays are wonderful, but I'm always glad when they're over and I can sit still for a freakin' minute.)
Be back.
Felipa walks off and leaves the rankling Raquel simmering in sh!t stew. OMG, you couldn't have said it any better than that, Jardinera. LOL
He finds out that Diaz drives an 18-wheeler for a living [a “trailero”]. Duhn-duhn-duhn-duhnnn! For the love of Pete, how LONG before someone makes this freakin' connection finally?
Lookee here, Alex. Sweetie. I know you've got to be a little more careful with the dinero these days because you're in the midst of giving everything up for the life and love of your woman, but come on. You've got to have a little something-something set to the side somewhere, like any smart cookie would. And there isn't a real estate agent in Merida who wouldn't drop EVERYTHING and break his or her neck finding Alejandro Lombardo a comfy new home in less than a DAY. Get MJ out of that damn Technicolor house where Bruno can just barge in on her whenever.
I will say, though... it is nice to see Alex and MJ on his bed again, smiling, touching, and sharing intimacies. It really is indeed.
Lissete = amateur. Pobrecita. Since you're b!tching about it so hard, RaMaura, let's see you do better.
I desperately need Paula to be by MJ's side at the Manse. That way, if MJ starts channeling Joan of Arc again, little sister will be there to spill all of MJ's bidnez to A-rod. And I just don't like the sisters separated anyway. They need each other, and have no one else in the world, really.
Well, hot damn. Vicky's performance was pretty awesome. I enjoyed the heck out of it, but I ain't getting excited just yet. She's stomped on El Bruno before in disgust, only to erupt with joy when he appeared absolved the next day. I want to see how this plays out first. (GREAT acting by Romo. Hooo-weeee!)
Unfortunately Alex is bound by the fiction hero's code--he cannot tell a lie to deceive even a villain, or go back on his word. %#@*!&%#! What he could have done, though, was admit everything to Vicky once the jig was up. Why he didn't--even though he is tired and just wants to leave the problems behind--I really don't get. *shrug* Dude, let Vicky take Mad Dog to court. Let her have to fight him for once.
If only Felipa could have sicced Cuco on Raquel. Nah... poor doggy probably would have gotten rabies from that heifer.
Again, muchas gracias, Jardinera, for your recap. Morning, mates. :)
(This is not the version we got in America. So if you're not in the proper location to, or have no desire to, see derriers in all their glory, I beg thee, do not click on my name. Otherwise--enjoy!)
Thank you. That is all.
I missed all the Sortilegio episodes last week but got to read some of the recaps. Now that Alex and MJ are (temporarily, I'm sure) back together again, I'll try and watch.
Elna June, great analysis. I have a friend who is a counselor who tells me it's extremely hard, even for professionals, to have patience with depressed people. Amen to that!
; > ) No snow here yet so it'll be hard checking those gift lists twice for me.

Variopinta: Thanks for the FELS info. If anybody should have won for the way they portrayed their characters, DB and WC should have. SZ should have also instead of that Quinti. Gabi and Nando made that show what it was IMHO.

Stephe: Thanks for the scrumptious vide-oh-h!
Looking at the possible winners and other options makes it obvious that last year was not a good year for novelas. I think I only saw Guapos and Juro Que Te Amo. Those were probably the ones I would have voted for. I know you got to see Guapos but what about JQTA?
Juro Que Te Amo was a watered down version of Los Parientes Pobres, a novela produced by Carla Estrada in 1993 with Lucero and Ernesto Laguardia as the leads and Alexis Ayala and Chantal Andere as the antagonists.
Ana Brenda (Maura in Sorti) was the lead in JQTA and Marcelo Córdoba (Bobo here) was the young villain. They kept parts of the plot intact but they changed the strongest dramatic turns mostly due to the fact that Ana Brenda's character was much sweeter than Lucero's who was very resentful and obsessed with money thanks to her father's influence (Rogelio Guerra). The original was before Carla Estrada teamed up with Maria Zarattini, Zarattini prefers sweet innocent characteres for heroines a la María José.
If anything I would have given Juro que Te Amo an award for it's intro, which I found beautiful.

I for one was happy when Pedro decided to stay in Sagui it showed that he was finally being the parent this could be his turning point from being codependent on his daughter and earning his daughter' (Paula)respect back. During the hospital sceene when Paula realizes she needed to go to the police station he basic told her the same thing that Alex did but she only believed it when Alex said it that to me shows her lack of respect for her father.
And i dont think Paula going back to the mansion would have been a good thing for her at the rate she was going she would eventually joined team mexitrash yes its hard on her now but in the long run I think it will be the best decision. MJ was right when she told Alex that Paula needs to mature. She needs to finish school withount getting caught up in all the drama at the crazy house and she needs to learn that she needs to work for what she wants other wise she's no better then the rest of the people sponging off of Alex.
I dont think MJ will be alone as the father wants Alex to hire Gabe sis to work at the house and what better position than to help MJ like felipa and Vicky.
Thank goodness vicky has seen the light!!!!!
When Vicky ask Hernan where Pedro was and he says he chose to stay in Saqui and Paula wasnt staying either although a brief scene I think it helped Vicky see the light about Bruno.
I pretty sure she had to wonder why Pedro being poor, with a bad knee and a duaghter would choose not to return to a mansion with someone taking care of you and being close to MJ.
Did anyone notice how cool Mai & Will seem to be towards each other last night? Or whenever they taped the award show? Kinda odd.
J.
It looks like the voting is done right there at the show, is that so? It could be that one of the novelas is out there campaigning the potential voters, building enthusiasm better than another one.
Or maybe the taste of Mexico & the US is different. FELS was a piece of garbage in my opinion & I rarely see comments from anyone that liked it, Mexicans included.
If it hadn't been for Gabriela, Fernando & Capricho, it would have been total basura. I'm sure Quintana is a fine actress but that part was just plain estupida.
Were the others nominated,
JQTA, Guapos & Cuidado? I didn't see any of them, but I find it impossible to believe anything could be worse than FELS.
I am very satisfied that Yáñez & Noriega didn't win, not even knowing the ones that did.
When they didn't win I thought the voters at least had a brain, but after Colunga Pasión losing to Yáñez DA, I should have know better.
So here I sit PO'ed yet another year & already worrying that WL will not win next year, as much as I love Colunga.
Stephe, they must have shown that scene to the voters. Nice nalgas, pero FC & WL I bet are better.
So, ElnaJune...we know what happens when depression is chronic. What happens to us viewers if we feel this much frustration relentlessly for 3-4 months at a stretch?
I also thaught FELS was awful but I don't buy the magazine and I don't vote on esmas so I can't choose, I merely watch (Or not). I'm thinking the ones who do vote are those that kept it on for so long and kept quiet about it because everybody in México made fun of that novela and said they hated it . I'm guessing it was the same in USA since according to this article FELS had a very successful finale and apparently it had good ratings during its run.
Pasión was a ratings flop so no surprise about the loss of Colunga against Yañez, even after DA not being the success they expected, the problem Televisa had that year was the huge success of a TV Azteca novela that stole alot of their viewers. MEPS had much better ratings than Sortilegio but the people who watched Sortilegio seemed to watch it mainly for Levy and he has a rabid fanbase so I think he has a chance to win in 2010, plus the new Corazón Salvaje is a flop so I think Yañez will be out, the only other actor Levy fans should worry is Pedro Fernández for "Hasta que el Dinero Nos Separe" because that novela has a huge following, with MEPS numbers without being on the 9 pm stellar hour.

This one started out as a yawner allright...I was only watching with one eye, then, wow! The fireworks with Victoria. I only hope she will stay on the trail, I don't want to see her backsliding again.
Intersting comments about Pedro, I agree that he's not sympathetic, and I think there is something dark in his past being hinted at. We don't yet know exactly what happened between him and Elena. He is going to have to come clean when they show up and we might learn more about why he is so messed up.
It was my first time seeing the awards. My question was about the other novelas, like "alma de hierro" which I hadn't heard of, did this air in the US?
Jarocha
The main dude in Alma de Hierro who won best actor last night played the handsome but evil son in Cuna de Lobos with Diana Bracho, back in the day.
If any of you haven't seen it, it's great, but I couldn't see the whole thing as there was manufacturing defect in one of the DVD's. I kept requesting new ones from Netflix and they were all bad!
Jarocha
=============
Jarocha, I always appreciate your informational backgrounders.
I wonder if it has any thing to do with the legal battle between Univision and Televisa. Telefutura is showing only old novelas now.
Piel Otono, Barrera Amor, Destilando Amor and Betty La Fea are some other novelas shown right now on Telefutura.
