Corazon Salvaje- 3/31, Wed. - Spain Seems So Far Away
Preview/Review: Aimee learns that Juan will go to Spain, which ruins her appetite. She dons Regina’s nun’s habit and except for the ruby red lips which Renato doesn’t seem to notice, he is so blinded by the white so Aimee is able to slip out of the house to search for Juan’s vanishing kisses before they sail off to Spain. But Renato decides to follow Regina, or so he thinks. Oh those twins, oh for a cape of invisibility.
Juan has a fit with the maid that the paint it black mystery lady and her mute maid have disappeared. Gabriel tries to reason that it is not the maid’s fault. Why can’t the maid write if she can’t speak. He clasps Rosario’s rosary with questions and strange feelings in his heart.
The fisherman meet to argue about the embargo, Juan finds out he cannot commission any boat to slip out to Spain. Raul de Marin comes in to Juan’s house.
Clemencia happily tells Jimena that the bearded one is still disgusting but very much alive. Regina is happy with her completed dream with Renato Paradise to be built but not a night in paradise like she really wants with Renato.
Juan threatens de Marin that he still has to repay his debt or be exposed for fraud.
Noel announces at the homey dinner that Juan is leaving for Spain. Emotions and dinner plates vibrate with agitation. Aimee runs from the dining table, Regina tries to run off to help Aimee as does Renato. Papa Bear Rodrigo waves her off and says Juan Aldama was nothing more than a rat in knight’s clothing. Good riddance he is a cad anyway. Regina ignores the big problem of Juan while she waxes poetic on the Paradise building today on her big trip with Renato to establish the Paradise village.
Juan and Gabriel and the fishermen plan revenge and justice.
Rodrigo cannot believe that money has been spent on the dirt bags that pass for peasants.. Regina is happy in her own little humanitarian daydream, Noel tries to reason with Rodrigo, this is part of the promise by the Associates to improve the lives of the unwashed, I mean deserving peasants. Noel says his son has taken this to heart as his noble purpose. Rod repeats that only business and profits (ganancias) count, in a moment of utter truthfulness.
Aimee tells Renato she is in a snit, he want s to call for the snit doctor but she only wants to be left in peace. She is beginning to show her true self-centered nature in her ire. She cries in silence that the only thing she wants to do is find Juan.
The fight starts. on the ship lots of swords and Juan and his men in masks.
Speaking of costumes, Aimee finds a spare nun’s garb in Regina’s side of the closet.
The sword fight ensues on the fake boat. Ed.Note: Sorry folks, I just noticed the boat tonight, it looks like a floating shoe box, and probably is.
The silky slut dress is hidden under the bed while Aimee hides her flaming red hair under the wimple and she’s off to high adventure.
With only a few sword swipes, Juan and his agile fishermen turned pirates are able to conquer the shoe box, errr boat, they flash the torch toward the shore to signal that the boat has been conquered.
Smoking on the balcony, Renato sees Regina/Aimee take off out of the hacienda dressed in white, She forgot it kind of glows in the dark. He follows with more curiosity than he has shown before..
Juan’s band of merry men find treasure and celebrate while a couple of energizer sailors left over, come back to life to attack. One is beaten down and falls, but has enough strength and hidden knives to stab Juan. Oh good, lots of blood flows.
Back in the agitated dining room, Regina defends her work with the poor, Rodrigo rewards her with a huge smack in the face for her insolence in being uppity. Noel pulls off Rodrigo and Regina gets to make a feminist speech about women not getting to express their opinions. Rodrigo regrets that his money paid for such a fancy European education and she is still a rebel! Leonarda tells Rodrigo to be calmer. Noel says no one knows the mind of Regina. Leonarda swoops to comfort Rodrigo with Noel looking right at Rod’s eyes. Leonarda has lost the will to hide her true passion since she and Noel had that little talk last night.
Regina cries to Clemencia and Jimena. She is so sad that her father is a scum-sucking capitalist brute (Ed’s word choice), Clemencia says don’t provoke him so. Jimena supports her concern and noble desires to help the poor. She begins to read Regina’s palm this time. She will meet a man with the same values and goals as her. Is it to be Renato? asks Regina hopefully. Jimena says, no it is someone else to come into your life. hmmmm, no one can imagine who it could be if not Renato.

The men bring Juan wounded to the cave. Juan insists they take out the knife point lodged in his leg. He bites a rag and they remove a large piece of knife point. Gabriel insists he will go for Doctor Miranda who can fix the severe wound. Juan wants them to all get away form them so they won’t be implicated in the fight. Somehow he convinces them to leave him alone and badly wounded to recover on his own. What a man!
Meanwhile at the brothel. The lovely blonde teases Federico but Fulgencio tells him that tomorrow early they will go to the cave to get the arms to move them out (so the boats were embargoed for this). Juan winces alone in the cave while Aimee approaches, Renato follows, she notices him but hides while close behind Federico and Fulgencio follow along and see REnato too., Rats, their plans are foiled for the moment, What ever is Renato doing in a scuzzy place like this? Fulgencio wants Fed to capture Gabriel’s confidence (that’s not an easy task since Fed is such a Fop to even the young impressionable Gab) so he must convince him to work for me, avows, Fulgencio.
Juan writhes and hallucinates in the cave remembering nights of passion and his later angry reproach of Aimee. He says he has to do something to forget about Aimee, he’s just got to. Boy this cave is getting crowded with menacing memories and arms dealers.

Nun in white appears, let’s see oh yes, it is the real Regina, who can’t find sister girl in the room so she sneaks out of the house. Lots of people out on the dunes in white, but no , Aimee sneaks back in but Rosenda sees her. And wonder what the novitiate is doing out being so interesting and mysterious in the night. Hmmm, perhaps another opportunity to gain power for our smooth shouldered Rose.
Renato returns and sees the innocent nun, What are you doing here? I should ask the same, quips Regina. Where have you been? barks the possessive even when he has no reason to be Renato. Why I was just walking in the garden. You are lying you were on the beach! I saw you hiding when I came behind you, It seems like you were afraid you would be discovered. Regina realizes it was Aimee. (Thankfully one character seems to be able to think clearly)
Aimee hides the nun stuff back in the closet and sighs relief that she did not get discovered. Meanwhile Renato goes wild on Regina whom he cannot now trust and note he once again cannot restrain his anger. She isn’t the white nun he always thought she was but is a lying beach stalker. Leaving Regina in that corner of the world so hard for a nun called by the rest of us, damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

Again in the cave, the once spotless straw where he made love to Aimee so recently with bleached white sheets is grimy and bloody, cold and dark. The good Dr. Miranda returns with Gabriel. Juan worries about trusting the Docs’s discretion. who assures him it is part of of his profession as he cuts away the pant leg while Juan groans in pain. He talks of the woman who disappeared while the doctor stitches the long wound. The doctor doesn’t know who Paint it Black could be, seems like lots of crazy folks are out and about these days.
Leonarda tenderly turns down Rod’s bed while she defends her son and his generous if silly ways, but says Noel is a fool, implying that only the mighty Rod has good judgement. Rod wants to know why she married Noel. She reveals, After the death of my sister and you took off for Europa I was so lonely and felt well you know, he was better than nothing.
The Doc ties off the stitches and says the rabble rousers should be stopped , Juan insists that they only are fighting for justice, The doctor shakes his hand and pledges his support.

Rodrigo says love is a dream that one day will turn into a nightmare. Leonarda pledges to do absolutely anything for him. He doesn’t quite get her drift. She professes her undying love. He looks somewhere between surprised, amused and mostly bored silly.
Aimee fakes sleep, Regina rushes in and then wonders who Renato is confusing her with if Aimee is playing sleeping dog. Renato takes off his tie and wonders why Regina lied to him and then wonders if Aimee will lie too. Aimee wakes from the dream of Juan’s rejections .crying why why?
Juan says he has to rid himself of this passion that is consuming him. He has to forget her , So we fade out with our lovelies in their respective luxurious beds or squalid caves lost in unrequited love and lust:

An eerie parody of the Walton’s good night refrains but each talking only to themselves.
Coming up next: Looks like Aimee isn’t ready to give up her bad habits after all. Juan queries Gabriel, what would he do if Estrella doesn’t exist and councils him to see Jimena and tell her the truth.

So, Jarocha was saying at the end of the last comments that Veracruz actually has very good weather.
No hurricanes -- and that the windy beach weather is just telenovela beanie wear.

Good lord, that boat does look like a shoebox! Maybe that's why the fishermen are being robbed - so the antagonists can afford something better! (And ohh, I didn't even need to see the preview to know what you meant about Aimee's 'bad habits' - ow ow ow!)
So no one is going to question why Aimee would be so upset by the news of Juan's departure that she'd need to run out on dinner? Really? "Oh noes, the crazed salvaje that tried to murder my father and whom my fiance wants to duel is headed to Spain where he'll no longer be a threat to us; perish the thought!" No, we've got more pressing concerns - that rebel bedsheet saleswoman is spreading kindness like her sister spreads her legs! (Unless I just didn't pick up on mass suspicion because of my unilinguality, in which case - don't tell me, actually, 'cause it's funnier in my world.)
And what exactly is it Renato thinks Santa Regina was doing out there on the beach that would leave him unable to trust her (and why is she his business anyway)? Does he subconsciously realize it was someone he's far more concerned with?
So, I was thinking about Juan moaning and groaning in the caves and what superstitious fisherpeasants might take it for, which led me to the stories Leonarda told the kiddies back in the day to keep them out of the catacombs, and I came up with a fantastic idea for del diablo and his madre if this whole love and revenge thing doesn't work out: They can take over the circus and start Veracruz' first haunted house.
In a similar vein, how about the Montes de Oca Family Unvariety Show?
Rod: "Love is a dream that will day turn into a nightmare."
Leo: "I love you SO MUCH."
Rod: "Well, my point's proven. (canned laughter) You've been a great audience, thanks for coming! Say good night, kids."

Thanks for the great recap Cheryl. I must have fallen asleep because I don't remember the ending at all.
The next time a male character feels the need to slap a woman I'd like to see said woman put a 2x4 upside his head. Wait, they probably didn't have 2x4's back then to maybe a bat. Well, they probably didn't have bats back then either so a cast iron skillet would do the job just fine.
The one thing I don't like about Big E is that whenever he gets hurt he rolls around and whines like a little girl. Remember the whipping scene in Fuego? Ack! Man-up big guy. You can handle it. Loved his black suit by the way.

So did I, I enjoyed it very much, and I have fond memories of it. But if I try to look at it detachedly I have to say that was the most surreal, most brainless show I've ever seen. :)
Connie, I like FelS, too; in fact, I kept the last dozen or so episodes in reserve and parcel them out slowly. I just watched the one where Fernando Escandón killed Coyote a couple weekends ago.
Fantastic villains in that show. Both Diana Bracho and Guillermo García Cantú won best antagonist in their respective categories.

I liked Coyote. He was cool. You have to admit the ending of that show was great!
At least in Salvaje we don't have quite as many really bad guys. Rod is a snot but hasn't killed anyone--yet. Leo has only 1 kill under her corset so far. But we have many episodes to go.

Coyote was great! Haven't finished the ending yet, but I always like that show. Glad you did, too. :-)

I too enjoyed Fuego en la Sangre. Especially the Brothers Reyes in all their forms of disrobement! More naked swimming! Besides they were funny together! And such horsemen! Ah, Capricho!

Cheryl~~Thanks for the excellent recap. A friend dropped by last night to see hub right after the show started. I turned off the volume, but I had the closed captioning on. He glanced at the screen just as we were treated to a cavelove rerun, and he said ''What are you watching ?'' Connie... HA... That was a creepy scene between Leo and Old Rod. Leo has wasted her whole life, killed two people, and made life miserable for many just to get her hands on Rod. What a waste of time. Rod likes them young , and he wasn't even attracted to Leo when she was young ...remember the midnight visit she paid to Rod's room after she made MdR and baby Juan disappear ? Talk about a lesson in futility.

That dress Aimee was wearign last night was beautiful except it reminded me of a peacock. Did they have the capability back in that era to make fabric that bright and colorful?
Connie, German chemists were making aniline dyes industrially by the 1850's, and the dyes were so bright that fashions went crazy with colors.

I noticed that when Juan was describing his unexplainable feelings toward the black-veiled woman that he reached up to his neck and grasped the rosary that Clemencia gave him from his mom. Now he has both something from his mom and something from his dad worn around his neck.
At least Jimena knows now that she didn't kill Servando. And what were the personal things Clemencia was doing to detain her bringing Jimena the news? Did we see that -- what was the purpose to bring that up in dialog?
Ha! Rodrigo thinks the "ruffian" is leaving the country, because he's afraid. He's afraid he'll rip your head off, idiot!
I hope Noel does not get into financial trouble over having to recoup Rodrigo's money out of his own pocket. If he does, maybe Juan can help him; they have things in common, like a dedication to Justice with a capital "J."
Justice is a big theme in this show. Renato, Regina, Jimena, Juan and now the Doctor. That last one should prove interesting; I have an awful feeling the doctor could be a red shirt and die for his ideals, like his uncle. Hope not; he has a firm manner that I appreciate.
Wow, Aimee was sure upset about Juan's ostensible departure. Genuinely upset. Quite confusing to poor Renato. Later on I notice they show us Renato's bedroom set -- which I think is for the first time viewers see it. Hopefully, there will be some future action of a disrobing nature on that set.
I thought Rodrigo would punch Regina's lights out for being a modern woman; he was so incensed. So many times now, Rodrigo has allowed Noel to reign him in or correct him -- and here in a fairly violent manner.
What has Noel ever done that Rodrigo would permit him that? Is it just Rodrigo's stedfast belief in the order of things: class, society, friends, family, etc? He is a pretty Victorian guy and believes in institutions.
That was such good camera work that framed the essence of that scene: Rodrigo drops into the chair, exhausted; Leonarda kneels to comfort him; and immediately behind her the camera pans up to show Noel observing them.
So, Fulgencio and Federico see Renato at Smuggler's Cave. Was that the point of having Aimee run out in the habit? So they could see Renato there? Fulgencio's still leaning on Federico to insinuate himself into Gabriel's business -- and now he wants Juan to work with him, too.
How could Juan use this development to further his vengeance, I wonder. I get the feeling Juan could go along with Fulgencio long enough to help his own cause.
The music in this episode was good -- I liked the busy clockwork theme they had going in the twins' bedroom while Aimee was hurridly disrobing and the novice mixup up the house and outside.
Actually, I am liking quite a few of the musical themes. The one they played over the garden argument between Renato and Regina is a nice one.
So, the doctor asks Juan about the black-veiled woman and was moved by her plight. If Leonarda ever calls the doctor for Rosario, he'll recognize her right away and tip Juan off.
Interesting talk that Rodrigo initiated with Leonarda about her relationship with Noel. What's interesting most might be that he brought it up. Is there a glimmer awakening in him there? Rodrigo says he doesn't believe in love, which leads her to such a declaration of loyalty. Don't know what to think; he was touching her.
I was a little surprised at the end there where Renato was wondering what Regina does at night. Oops! Wrong girl.
Once again, to echo Jimena's palm reading to Clemencia, there are four people mixed up in a tragic situation. New generation, old problem.

Cheryl, thanks for the recap! Sort of a strange episode - Renato doesn't really question why Aimee is so upset that she leaves the room, but Regina gets the third degree for being in the garden? ITA with Jeri, I worry that Leo is going to try to kill Noel. If Rod shows her one little bit of tenderness, Noel is toast.

When Jimena read Regina's palm, not only did she say Regina's destiny was not with Renato, but that it was with someone she currently despises (Juan).
I'm pretty sure Juan told Raul Marin that to avoid Juan's turning him in, Raul has to be his eyes and ears, and report what Rodrigo's doing. To me, this is not such upstanding behavior by Juan. But anyway, Raul reported that Rodrigo had sold a shipment of lumber to Cuba, not included it in the partnership as he was supposed to. So that's how Juan and crew knew to attack that boat, which had Rodrigo's lumber earnings (I think).
Maybe Fugencio's arms were going to go out on the same boat, but I'm not sure of that.
So, Regina now has two of those nun's outfits (despite not really being a nun at this point)? Yes, I know, she's on probation, but this definitely cuts down on her clothing budget. I wonder if she could smell Aimee's strong perfume on her spare, the next time she gets it out.

Thanks for all the fun snark Amigos. I appreciate your corrections and additions too. Especially Hombre's filling out the business detalis with Marin. I was tired last night when returned from Enchanted Lens Camera Club so it was ten whenI was watching and recording and did not get it all written down.
Renato's reactions to Regina seems almost a combination of bad editing, and bad writing to make him so inconsistent. But I think we are supposed to be tuning in to his bipolar nature.

Loved the recap Cheryl. Anon 1:20 so funny. I'm still laughing. Mad Marley Grey, loved the snark. Especially the Montes de Oca Family Unvariety Show and G'night, Juan-boy quip. So funny. So all the pieces are falling into place with Renato and Rosenda thinking Regina isn't a good girl while her Juan obsessed sister is desperate to see her cave man again. I'm liking this show more and more. Looking forward to tonight's adventures.

i can't stand Mr.Rodrigo and when he slapped his daughter Reggie last night it turned my stomach....he looks like a real jerk and he and leo belong to gether....Leonarda did not stick up for Reggie either....the novela is getting better as time is going on and the boat last night was too funny.......... I noticed the red velvet sides and thought it looked like a prop from some high school play........and made out of bolsa wood.....too funny......Thanks for the recap...as always i love to read your style.....

At first I thought it was about the guns and they were intercepting them but I don't think Juan has any idea about that yet.
The smuggling and piracy is a pretty confusing area of this show. If that ship carried a payment for Rodrigo's venture, isn't he going to be pretty ticked off?
Cheryl, sorry to be so late chiming in. I missed all but the last 5 minutes of last night, so your excellent recap was more than helpful. As with most novelas, I am baffled by the fine points of the business deals. Thanks to all for attempting to explicate this mess. I would love to have seen the "pirate" activity. But we know already, that righteousness and "justicia" will win out even if only in the ultimos capitulos. Meanwhile they can get away with just about anything and our beanies have to work overtime trying to keep it sort of logical.--AgnesNJ
