Gancho Friday March 26th Welcome to Gancholand!

Some of us have visited Graceland, and feel it's the King. We might go to an Island, but that might be a bit selfish (too much "I" in it). Where to go for the weekend? Gancholand. It's a little known corner of the cyber universe, inhabited by diverse souls from many parts of the world. At times, there's a somber mood - our team may have come to the Big Dance, but our jitter just wouldn't bug. Or we could be Mad at Moni, Miffed at Marcos, P*ssed at Issy. But other times, we're feeling loud and proud. It was a slam dunk! And just as Gabi, Paula and Estrella have decided, despite their problems, to sigue adelante, so shall we. Let's open the club doors, kick back, and disfruta la vida. Life ain't bland, in fact it's grand, in Gancholand!

Good morning all. Congratulations to Mike and Emilia (Kentucky), Carlos (Baylor) and Sandy (Tennessee). Condolences to Judy (Ohio State), Guëra (Syracuse) and Julia (Cornell). Of course Jeff (Minnesota), Elna June (California) and I (Maryland) were already out. But at least we Gancholandians still have 3 teams left. I must say, for this non-basketball fan, several of those games were very exciting!

As for our show, it's a bit frustrating. Many of us agree that Marcos's tactic of having the doctor tell Hissabel her leukemia is back, is not good at all. Sal's trying to get out of a zombie state, but Aldo's trying to get into one. Ximena's relationships with Arnie and Rolu are up in the air. Don Cesar has been shot down by Nieves. Paula apparently didn't think Tano was her Man-o. So of course, in the middle of this, Menso Mau decides to have a matrimonio. No way is this gonna work. Ay Caray!

I echo the congrats to Carlos for the Baylor blowout ( they suretook control) and to Sandy for the squeaker, That was some exciting finish & Judy, I thought OSU was going to pull it out, but Tennessee took it & hats off to them. Cornell had a good run but Kentucky is a powerhouse. Now they go up against our last Big East team still in the running -- West Virginia.

Thanks for the condolences for our dear orangemen. I guess that even having a recovered Wes Johnson wasn't enough without our lovable big center Arinze O. Ah well.

Yes and on to the show. Are there really 4-6 weeks left? It feels as if all the plots are swirling into final resolutions. Though I agree with the rest of you that the proposed immediate marriage will never go off as Mau plans it. And hey if GS has been closed for 2 months now that means more time has passed than I realized and shouldn't our Estrella be showing by now & shouldn't she have had to confront the people who hired her for their telenovela???

Güera

Hombre, Thanks for posting a spot for gnashing of teeth on Gancho. What is with the frequent cancellations anyway? I was hoping they would get through this interminable extension piece before I leave in April for Costa Rica. Looks like I will not get my wish to see the finale however.

I too am certain that the wedding will end up derailed if we have another 6 weeks, but I really wish they would keep us in suspense on the doomsday photos and then have them be spoiled in the processing. It really looks like a throw away film camera.. so I'm just saying there is an opportunity here otherwise the story doesn't progress at all if we just swirl back into jealousy, betrayal and endless Hissabel witchery. Basta! I say, Basta!

Hi all, hope you're having a lovely weekend.

I miss Hombre's Friday recap but enjoy Gancholand also. Hombre, your intro paragraph was great.

It would be nice to see a few ends tied up in advance of the final show. Perhaps starting with Sal/Aldo and Xime/Rolu/Arny. Heck, even Nieves/Cesar/Marcos. Throw us a bone, writers!!

Also, I hesitate to mention baasketball - Judy, are you in mourning, or hopping mad???

Congrats or oh-so-sorry to all fans. Mike and I will either be dancing or weeping later tonight. (GO CATS!!!)

Hombre:
Such a witty, alliterative invitation to Gancholand—of course I will join you! I miss your recaps, Señor Misterio, and look forward to having you back in the saddle next week.

Hi to Cheryl. I love your photography! so nice to see you here in Gancholand. ITA about his extension. It has gotten pretty lame. time to pick up the pace a bit and drop the unsuccessful bits like the Marcos/Bad Oncologist/Isabel storyline. Not working. Have a wonderful trip to Costa Rica.

Best of luck to Kentucky (Mike and Emilia), Tennessee (Sandy) and Baylor (Carlos). I have enjoyed my BB education and look forward to moving into BB first grade next season.

Güera, you are so right about Estrella. Where is her bump? Is there no baby on board?

Emilia, you are so right. The writers need to give us something to chew on. Arnie and Xime at the beginning of the week are like meringue—we had our desert first. Now we need something to chew on. I say:

FREE SAL! and stop torturing poor Aldo. Wrap up the addiction thing. At this rate the kid is going to need some real time in rehab and a good shrink, I am afraid.

Thank Hombre opening up Gancholand. And here we are.. "As we take our stand down in Gancholand."

The Thursday show was #194 of a supposed 220 capitulos. So only 26 left. Shouldn't that be Ultimas Semanas by now then? 26, 5 weeks and a day. Maybe they'll go 2 hours one day?

Güera, you're right, been 2 months, Estrella should be showing and as you point out, what happened with the TN. I'm thinking Marcos plot will backfire because it will make Hissy go all out to be as bad as possible in her end days. She'll really want to make sure Moni suffers if she isn't here to see it.

Sorry Judy and Güera. Good luck Mike and Emilia and I mean that as I have Kentucky winning it all. :) Not sure if I'm close enough to be in the running now though. I do have my secret weapon, Carlos, Go Baylor! K-State may be my downfall, I didn't pick them, but other in the pool probably did. So, go Butler! :) And, good luck Sandy, go Tennessee! People could perhaps have Mich St winning in my pool, so need Tenn to pull that one out. :)

Elna June, I think you'll be past BB first grade. Picking Cornell, you're way past first grade, a natural. :)

Both Baylor teams are looking very good right now. Of course the guys won handily last night, and the Girly Bears beat #1 Tenn (sorry Sandy) just a little while ago. Duke is next up for the men tomorrow. I think that playing in Houston gives Baylor a little bit of an edge. Houston seems to have embraced Baylor after the awesome win over St. Mary's last night. How can you not like a team who's team leader is named Tweety and it's premier player is Lacedarius?

I was hoping for Aldo to help Sal escape but instead it looks like he has found his own escape route using Sal's poison. Drat!

Carlos

Well, hell...

Emilia's a WV native, so it ain't all bad.

I was at church painting the kitchen so I didn't see either game but I heard the results over the radio. It was quite a surprise to hear that both Kentucky & Kansas St. went down tonight. Butler knocked off our #1 seed SU and now #2 seed KY. Maybe they're the ones to watch. But Carlos & Sandy good luck tomorrow. You're the only ones still in it.

In watching these basketball games, it seems that emotion makes so much difference, often beating out natural talent. Of course there's also defensive strategy. But so many times, one team gets inspired, steals the ball, and all their shots go right in, while the other struggles over and over. I bet no one predicted the correct final four all the way back (we only know two of them, but who would have predicted Butler and West Virginia?).

On a completely different topic, I was in a movie theater yesterday, waiting for the start of the Metropolitan Opera in HD, when someone wanted to sit in my row. The lady next to me said, in a Russian accent, that seat was "busy". I decided that Russian must be like Spanish, in that in Spanish, the word for "busy" is "ocupado". So the Russian lady must have (incorrectly) assumed that the opposite is true - that the word for "occupied" is "busy". Interestante, no?

I mean interesante.

Hello everyone,

JudyB, what a squeaker. It was almost like musical chairs, whoever had the ball when the whistle blew, won the game. I want to get you together with my husband, you two would have a blast ...watching something other than UT vs OSU! Hombre, I agree with you, there seems to be an emotional quotient that can over ride natural talent at times.

Please tell me that we won’t eventually have a game between Baylor and UT, this is too @#*&%$ nerve wracking for me. Speaking of Baylor, Carlos, congrats on their resounding win against the Lady Vols.

Mike, I like you style..yes, WV is still in.

I’m not going to say Go Vols again, this sports stuff is too hard on me. After this season, I’m officially going back to my blessed ignorance of all of it!!

Do we really think that we won’t have a marriage tomorrow, I’d love to see one! Mau does romance well!

Good morning all! Good luck to those of us still in the BB running and condolences to those of us who have suffered our losses. By the way, I heard an interesting short piece on NPR last week that made me think of y'all. Mike Pesca of NPR news described the Cornell team's success within the parameters of Elements of Style, by William Strunk, a Cornell alumni. (EOS is the quintessential tome of writing and will be familiar to anyone who was/is a student of writing or English. It was practically my bible in college so my ears perked right up.) Pesca's bit refers to the sort of passion Hombre mentions, how the collective emotion of a team can make it cohesive enough to reign victorious over a more 'talented' team. Anyway, with the conversations we have been having about March Madness I was able to enjoy the radio piece much than I otherwise would have. Even though Cornell lost to Kentucky the piece was interesting and I think applicable to all underdog teams.
It's a Matter of Style

Best of luck to Tennessee and Baylor today.

Hi everyone. Thanks Hombre for the last several weekend homages...very fun. I'm almost caught up I think...too much funny stuff in each cap to type but y'all are just amazingly funny, I have a great time reading everything, and it's interesting the different styles that we have each of us. OK, I know nothing about this basketball stuff. I had to laugh because I was offered the chance at tickets this past week to see some games, in one of which Baylor was playing, and I thought, hmmm, I sure know some folks who would love those!! I had other plans and couldn't go, but I might have gone just to report for you folks. I'm not a huge BB fan. Anyway, look forward to another interesting week... PS I seriously doubt Hombre will be back on this Friday as it is "Good Friday" and no doubt there will be some ancient movie on about the passion of Christ or something...but I could be wrong... :)

Hope all are well!!!

Lo siento, Carlos. Join us in Consolation Corner.

So sorry Sandy and Carlos. I was rooting for both Kentucky and Baylor as a shout out to Club Gancho.

Hombre, according to my Tivo schedule it looks like Gancho IS on this Friday. Kris is right, they usually smack us upside the head with some sort of Good Friday thingie. Jeff's theory is plausible, sounds like they are setting us up for a 2 hr finale.

Here's another vote for something to happen. Our action-packed novela is dragging a bit. I also want some resolution on something, anything!! My first choice would be Sal. Come on writers, let the good man go!!

Sorry Carlos and Sandy, now who to root for? Suppose it could be WVA for Emilia/Mike. Or, maybe MSU because I'm Big Ten. I would like to see a Butler-WVa final. MSU and Duke are just too much, been there done that.

Sylvia, I wouldn't put too much into my theory. One of the other afternoon shows is in Ultimas, Gancho and Tormenta are close. I haven't seen any muy prontos. When the one gets done, then my guess is that either Tormenta or Gancho will start doing two hour days. I don't see too much resolution coming. If anything, I would guess the planned wedding gets snuffed and we get nowhere any time soon. :)

What happened to all our teams? I guess we still have West Virginia, since Emilia was originally from there. But the games were so close, and just a few little things determined the outcome at the end. I was thinking that Maryland came within 6 seconds of beating Michigan State, and Michigan State's in the Final Four, so.....

Carlos, I really thought Baylor had some terrific players. If they come back next year, you guys could be unstoppable! I was also surprised that Tennessee didn't win, because they looked so good in the previous game.

One thing that I liked is that most of the games were on the weekend, so I didn't have to miss too many telenovelas!

Wow! Thanks guys. It was certainly an exciting run. Our Girly Bears are still alive'n kickin'. They were awesome against Duke. Next!

Tomorrow's episode looks to be fun. The glimpse I got of Coni as Fantasma Fem was compelling.

Butler. or WV. I agree with Jeff: Duke, Mich St, let's see something new.

Cheryl,

So good to hear from you.

Carlos

I should have said the Girly Bears will be awesome against Duke. They play tonight. They were awesome against Tenn.

I'm looking forward to recapping today's Gancho. I'm also glad that we have a show Fri. I've missed Hombre's recaps the last couple of weeks.

Carlos

Yay, I hope we do have a show this Friday. I've really missed Mister Mystery's recaps. I also hope my electricity at home comes back on in time to record today's show.

With only four episodes of Gancho per week, and since I'm not terribly into either HQEDNS or CS (I just FF to the good parts), I've had time to get hooked on Tormenta. I just started watching it a couple weeks ago so I don't really get everything that's going on, but MAN! Those boys must have been busy! There are babies coming out of the woodwork every which way!

Has anyone figured out how far along Estrella should be in her pregnancy by now? It's weird that she hasn't mentioned the telenovela job lately. I think it's really nice that as soon as telenovela ladies establish that they are pregnant, they never vomit or faint again.

I agree, Julia, the pregnant ladies just faint or get nauseous enough to establish the pregnancy, and that's that. They did have Estrella needing to go to the ladies' room last week or so, so that must be the second phase of TN pregnancy. Then later, when they are showing, there's usually some kind of a fall, or an attack or something which provokes pains. I don't think Estrella's at that stage yet.

The way women pass out in TNs, you'd think there would be all sorts of accidents happening here with women passing out left and right after they get pregnant. :)

Julia, I think a couple of those babies on Tormenta have been David's, but I guess Aymar's is by Nicolas. Not sure if David will actually marry that Karina or not. He has had kid's from two other women. :)

So what's the deal with Aymar? She's Nicolas's One True Love and her baby is his, but she's married to the blind guy? I'm so confused. Did she marry him out of spite because Nicolas married the nasty woman who's now in jail, who had the baby Nicolas claims but whose father is really one of the other brothers (David?)?

Sorry Julia, I don't know either. I've only been paying a little more attention recently watching it before Gancho comes on. Seems like Aymar must have gotten pregnant via Nicolas while married to the blind guy (don't know his name)? Or was that before marrying the blind guy? Maura is the one in jail and apparently her kid was David's. And now David had that other women with the kid. Really like how David handles problems. He just beats the crap out of them. A little hot-headed. :) Beat up poor 'Lalu' the other day because they both have the hots for that Karina. I guess she forgave him because they almost married before that other women showed up at the ceremony with David's child. Definitely has the good old TN feel to it.

I couldn't believe he beat up Lalu! Lalu looks really handsome over there, without the strange facial hair he sports on Gancho.

So is Alessandro as trampy as his brothers? In the few episodes I've seen he seems a bit tamer...but not for lack of opportunity; all the ladies seem to be throwing themselves at him, and who can blame them, the way he goes shirtless in the stable?

I think the one brother's name might be Lisandro, not Alessandro. Anyway.

But I thought Maura's baby's father was the other brother, Leonardo? I remember they were talking about the three of them as possibilities and then Nicolas did the test but told everyone he was the father even though that wasn't true.

Julia, oh, yes, perhaps Leonardo was the father. Can't remember any more. I remember them showing scenes of David and Maura together, but may have been Leonardo's child. To complicated. :)
Yes, Lisandro seems to have the hots for Carlos' Mabel from CS, Celina on this show. But that Patsy, older women, Erika Buenfil, seems to really want him, trying to entice him all the time lately. Cuco is also after Celina. Many tangled webs.
Yep, if Lisandro/German, would have went shirtless on ENDA, no one would have paid any attention to old Emoon, not that we did anyway. :)

Emiliano who? But Romina saw Germs with his shirt off all the time and still was hung up on Emoony; I guess her mental problems were more severe than we realized.

I must say I like Erick Elias as the main guy. He is easy on the eyes.

Sylvia, I liked that link. I have a copy of Elements of Style right here at my desk, but I never knew I could use it for athletic coaching.

Julia and Jeff, you all are answering my question from a few days ago about whether there are trailer parks in Mexico.

Sure sounds like there must be.

Or is this TN you're discussing set in Eastern Kentucky, not Mexico?

Mike, it's hard to tell. No trailers, but it's like an episode of Maury.

I mean, I'm no fan of men talking about their conquests, but in this case I can see where it might have been helpful. THREE BROTHERS all slept with the same woman, not just at all, but in a close enough time frame that any of them might have been the baby's father? Good grief.

I remember old Tormenta. It was crazy, but a fun crazy. I loved David only because I found Jose Luis Reséndez so hot there (I've met him in real life and he is quite possibly the most gorgeous man on earth). I liked David and crazy Maura, I think she truly loved him but her evilness never allowed her to be happy. I also liked him with Karina. Aymar used to bug me, I don't even remember why but Sarah Maldonado usually always bugs me.

In the first episodes Eugenia Cauduro (Gaby in Gancho) played Aymar's mother. Laisha Wilikns was originally casted as Aymar and it was gonna be her first lead but the producer changed the main actors because he wanted to make them younger so Sara Maldonado and Erik Elías were casted.

Jarocha

Jarocha, you met him? How do you meet all these people? I'm so jealous. Although, if I ever did meet some actor I admired, I'm sure I would have no idea what to say.

I'm really liking Tormenta now, and I'm wishing I'd seen more of it. Oh, well.

As Julia said Mike, no trailers. They're fairly well off.

Jarocha, Aymar sort of bugs me, too. Should have paid more attention to Tormenta earlier. It is on the fun side. I think there has to be less than two months left on it. I have scene Eugenia C is some of the pictures and wondered who she was, so she was Aymar's mom.

The wiki page for Tormenta lists some interesting deaths for some of the people still alive. That is one of the reasons I have been watching just to catch those deaths. I won't say what they are as they would be spoilers. :)

I met him during my visit to Televisa back in college. We were all waiting to start our tour and he entered the building through a door behind us. He was so nice to everyone and he let two of my crazy friends hug him (I was so jealous but I couldn't dare to ask a hug too), we could not get any pictures or autographs since security had taken our stuff before entering and they asked us to turn off our cellphones too :(. We were forbidden to approach any actor unless they decided to approach us and Jose Luis and Lilí Brillanti (a tv presenter) were the only ones who did. The actor who plays Marino in HQEDNS waved at us. We saw Ludwika Paleta shooting a scene for Duelo de Pasiones. She is so beautiful in real life and very thin. We also saw Angélica Vale dressed as Lety from LFMB but she didn't see us. We met the cammera men and a scene director and they show us the production room where they selected the cammera angles while they were shooting the scenes and there were people spkeaking to a microphone so that the actors would listen in their "apuntador".

We were shown the set of "La Verdad Oculta" and they told us which furniture had been used in other novelas. They showed us the sets of "Hoy" and "La Oreja" and they played with the lights to show us how the mood of the set changed. It was very fun.

At the end we went to eat at a restaurant around the corner of Televisa, San Angel and we met Guy Ecker and his wife and children.

I think anybody can go to a tour, it's free and you just have to call first to explain how many people will go. Then they'll give you the date. If it's only two or three they integrate them to a group and if it's more than 15 they divide them into two groups.

Jaroha

Jeff I hope you have fun watching it. I do remember everybody laughing at some of those. I think Tormenta is the crazy fun style that the new CS was trying to go for.

Jarocha
