Corazon Salvaje - A Cure For Two Bad Habits

Capítulo 31

First a redux: Since Renato can’t read poems of love to Aimee, whose absence from the house Regina is hiding from him, he for some reason feels he needs to read them to Regina. Regi listens as upstairs Clemencia stands guard at the twins’ bedroom door and keeps Leonarda from realizing the truth about Aimee’s being AWOL. Leonarda leaves to prepare a headache cure for the supposedly “suffering” Aimee. Aimee, meanwhile, has run off disguised again as Regi in one of the spare habits from the armoir that curiously nobody bothers to check and account for. Aimee wakes our feverish Juan and tells him it’s really her in disguise. He refuses her attempted kisses and embraces and then tells her again how much he hates and despises her. She cannot understand the change in him and wants a few answers. It’s a wasted effort because Juan continues talking in puzzling riddles about her being his enemy. He tells her that she’s been his enemy since before she was born and if she doesn’t leave him alone he is capable of killing her.

Back at the finca, Regi is overcome with emotion. She can’t listen to anymore poetry and turns away. When Ren asks if she dislikes it, she says it’s only because his devoted love for her sister shows through and it’s just so touching that it’s moved her to tears. (If I didn’t know better I’d say it was tears of boredom. Thank gawd for the reprieve!) He admits he does love her sister deeply, though some might say it’s infantile, but he isn’t ashamed to say it. She says it’s not infantile at all, but rather praiseworthy and admirable. Renato comments that although Regi’s mouth says one thing, her eyes say another. (What a dolt! Let it filter through the few brain cells you can claim, Renato, and maybe you’ll eventually figure it out.) Regi stares soulfully back at him.

Back at the cave, Aimee cannot understand why Juan has turned so hostile. Why would he want to hurt her, she asks. She’s done nothing to him. Her only crime has been to adore him and give herself over to him heart and soul. When this doesn’t persuade him she says Juan might as well go ahead and kill her then, because she’d prefer that to being apart from him. Juan doesn’t react and Aimee finally feels she’s had enough of groveling and pleading. She tells him that two can play that game and leaves.

Meanwhile, Ren professes his brotherly love for Regi and tries cheering her up by telling her there’s someone who soon will be coming to court her. [acercarse = to get close, to approach] Regi thinks there’s nobody else she wants as a suitor except Renato. She excuses herself and goes upstairs. Leona comes back with the headache potion and insists on going in to give it to Aimee herself. Rodrigo walks up saying he needs to talk to her immediately. She is forced to give the medicine to Clemencia who breathes a secret sigh of relief.

Regi meets Leona and Rod on the stairs on their way down to the study. He’s still angry with Regi and says they’re going to talk later. Regi says fine and walks off. Leona tells Rod she thinks Regi might have the same crazy genes as Maria del Rosario. Rod isn’t quite that gullible. He figures it’s more her rebellious attitude and says he’s tired of putting up with it. Ren runs into the two of them and wants to discuss something with Rod, so the three head to the study together.

Upstairs, Regina tells Clemencia that she wants to go back to the convent. It’s just too painful listening to Renato constantly speaking about how much he loves Aimee. (Can’t say as I blame her.) It infuriates her that her sister is only playing with Ren. Clemencia asks if she knows who Aimee’s been seeing every night. Regi is certain it’s been Juan and says she’s tired of having to lie to Renato for her sister all the time. She’s ready to shout out the truth to everyone at the top of her lungs and let Aimee pay the piper. Clemencia, fearing the worst if this happens, talks Regi out of it and then worriedly thinks to herself that the mystery man Aimee’s been seeing has to be MdR’s Juan.

Down in the study, Renato mentions to Rod that Dr. Pablo wants permission to court Regi. Rod is totally opposed. “He can only continue coming here in his capacity as doctor, nothing else! Regina is engaged to Federico and that’s that.” Ren can’t understand why his Tio is condemning Regi to a failed relationship with the likes of Feddy. Pablo Miranda is a good man, he says, and comes from a good family almost equal to Feddy’s in social standing. Leonarda defends Rod’s decision and says as her father he knows best. Rod tells Renato that compared to the illustrious family Feddy’s from, Pablo is a nobody. Leona adds that letting Regi have another suitor would only encourage her rebellious attitude. Ren says he wants Regi to be happy and Feddy ain’t cuttin’ it. Rod tells him to listen to his mother and butt out. He’s engaged to Aimee and she is Ren’s only concern –or should be. Ren gives in and leaves.

Once Renato is gone, Rod reminds Leonarda that Dr. Pablo Miranda is the nephew of the doctor who attended MdR when her bastard was born—the one that they murdered to keep quiet. Rod warns her that they cannot risk anyone from that family getting close to theirs or they risk them some day finding out what really happened. Leona agrees and remembers the night she lied to MdR about her baby being dead and how Rod rigged the doctor’s coach so the wheel would fly off and he’d be killed.

Rosenda knocks on the study door and asks permission to go out for a while. Leona rudely tells her to stop bothering her. She and Don Rod are in an important discussion and they don’t want anybody interrupting them! Leona slams the door in Rosenda’s face. Rod says Rosenda is good at knowing what everyone around there is up to. He remembers her father, he says, but he doesn’t know who her mother was. Leona says it was some inconsequential servant of theirs, some whore who just up and left suddenly one night. Rod then thinks to himself he remembers her now and that the woman stole his gold coins. He asks Leona if she heard anything of her since. Leona says no, but it’s certain she ended up in the gutter or whoring [la mala vida = evil life] somewhere. Rod agrees and then changes the subject to how the preparations for Aimee’s wedding are coming along since now it’s only a week away. He wants it to be worthy of the Montes de Oca name. Leona promises he won’t be disappointed.

Aimee gets back from the beach and worries about being discovered if she goes in the front door since people are not in bed yet. She decides to climb in through her window instead.

Upstairs in the bedroom Regi kneels to pray desperately for help with her emotions. Clemencia tells her to stop with the hysterics because she’ll wreck her health. Regi says her health is already ruined. Her nerves are so frayed she actually thinks she’s gone crazy just like Aimee’s said. Just then Aimee enters from the balcony window dressed in one of Regi’s habits. Regi sees her and realizes her suspicions were correct all along and that she wasn’t going nuts after all. “Why are you dressed in my habit? Where were you?” Aimee stares defiantly back at her twin. “—Why ask? You know exactly where!” “--With that savage! Not only were you continuing to lie to me, but you tried to make me think I was going crazy!” Regi is ready to jump her till Clemencia pulls her away. “So it was you that Renato saw going to the beach near the caves! You were dressed like me!” Aimee admits it and adds a lot of good it did her, too, cuz Juan just dumped her. Aimee begins to cry. (Viewerville’s compassion meter is at -10 and falling.)

Regi doesn’t believe that for a minute. Aimee says it’s all true and he just threw her away; he never wants to see her again! Clemencia tells her to get over it because Renato has been asking for her all evening and they’ve had to lie to him for her. Aimee throws a tantrum and says she could care less. Without Juan nothing matters anymore! Not even Renato! This gets Regi going and she tells her sister to remember he’s engaged to her and they’re getting married in less than a week. Regi, on a tear here, actually walks over to Aimee and slaps her a surprising (and most satisfying) good one across the chops. (Ten points, team Regi!) A most cathartic caterwauling then ensues. Clemencia grabs Aimee to keep her away from Regi. (Clem, couldn’t you have waited a minute or two longer?) Aimee says she curses the day she agreed to marry Ren. Regi says too late for that because if she doesn’t go through with it Regi will tell the whole world the truth about how she’s been running around behind Renato’s back with the man who hates their father. “He’s going to kill you!” (Is that a hint of a malicious sparkle in Regi’s eyes?)

Clemencia jumps in with her two cents worth and tells Regi not to do it because the family doesn’t need any more trouble. Aimee threatens that if Regi does that then she’ll shout to the whole world about Regi’s “impossible love” for Renato. Regi says it doesn’t bother her a bit. Bring it on! She’s no longer afraid of the truth and she’s got nothing to lose. On the other hand, Aimee’s prospects will fall faster than a lead balloon. Clemencia tells them both to pipe down before the whole house hears them. Regi says fine with her. Let them all in on it. They’ll both be sent to the convent for life. She’d love it, but Aimee will die from the shame and misery of being locked up. Aimee swears she’d kill herself first. (No loss there.) Clemencia has had enough and tells them she’s not interested in seeing another tragedy take place. Both of them are going to calm down and keep their mouths shut! They are not to say a word to anybody about what happened tonight. They’ll all sleep on it and afterwards it’s up to God.

That night Remigio visits Juan and tells him the robbery and his sharing of the goods is all the people are talking about. Juan asks if the people are upset with him and will accuse him of anything. Remi says of course not. The rich would because they are greedy and never want anyone messing with their stuff, even if it would be used to help the neediest. Remi thanks Juan for opening up the peone’s eyes and helping them fight the good fight. “I knew that day in the forest when I found you that you were different and that your mission in life was something other.”

Rosenda decides to make trouble for the other young servant in the house (Celestina?). She walks into the kitchen as the girl is washing the floor and purposely tracks mud on it with her boots. Celestina gets in Rosenda’s face and gripes. Rosenda says talk to the hand, preferably the ringed one, cuz she could care less being that she’s Sra. Leonarda’s protégée; she doesn’t do floors anymore. Celestina says whatever she did to gain the Sra.’s confidence it wasn’t anything good. They show their claws at each other and Celestina tells Rosenda to be careful because the higher you rise the harder and farther you fall. Rosenda brags that she’s got Leonarda eating out of the palm of her hand and is almost a part of the family now. Celestina says maybe now, but as soon as she becomes a big enough nuisance she’ll throw her out in the street.

Rosenda gets ready to take a dinner tray to Arcadio and Celestina realizes there’s something fishy there, too. “He’s the one giving you gifts. Now I understand! It wasn’t for free either! You’re nothing more than a whore the same as your mother who left you because you didn’t matter to her!” Rosenda gets physical and tells her to shut up. Nobody’s allowed to talk about her mama like that.

Back at the cave, Juan tells Remi that the guys come visit him from time to time even though he tells them they shouldn’t. He’d rather not raise suspicions. Remi says well, he’s spending the night there with him and keeping him company anyway. Juan says he’d rather be alone. Remi suspects something’s up and asks him what’s the matter. Juan finally breaks down and tells him that he’s broken it off with Aimee and she’s sworn never to see him again. If they do see each other again it will be as sworn lifelong enemies.

Rosenda brings dinner down to Arcadio and starts to tell him the family gossip. The Orca tells her the only one he wants to know about it Leonarda. Rosenda makes him jealous by playing up the meeting Leona and Rod were having in the study and emphasizing that she told her they didn’t want to be disturbed for any reason. Orca’s left to make his own conclusions. He swears that one day he’ll make Rodrigo Montes de Oca disappear off the face of the earth.

Rod tells Leona that somebody robbed his ship and he took a huge financial hit. The money doesn’t matter as much as the fact that they dared to mess with him. Nobody was supposed to know the ship was coming. He says that the sheriff believes one of his own crew betrayed him. He swears he’ll find and squelch the thieves. Leona thanks him for taking her into his confidence and swears she’d never betray him like that, not even for Renato. Rod says he knows that and is grateful. She says she doesn’t know what would become of her if the savage that insulted him the other day did something to Rod. Rod says he’s not finished with that guy and will be looking for him to give him what he deserves. The honor of the Montes de Oca’s is involved. The man will pay dearly for his impudence. Leona says if that’s what he wants most then she’ll help him plan something that will teach him a lesson he’ll never forget. Rod and she toast on that. “Leonarda, what would I ever do without you?”

The next morning Regi and Noel run in to each other in the foyer. (What’s with the bad dye job? It’s like he ran into a case of liquid shoe polish.) Noel asks where she’s off to this early in the morning. Regi says she’s going to the convent for confession. He notices how sad she is and offers to help if he can. She tells him that nobody can help her. He knows about her secret love for Renato, and as much as she’s tried she simply cannot manage to forget him. Noel says he’s worried about her health and says it bothers him to see her defy her father. He couldn’t stand seeing Rod hit her the way he did. Regi says she wasn’t defying her father, but there were so many things going on that she just couldn’t stay quiet about them.

Noel then mentions what Renato told him about seeing her going toward the beach alone the other night, as if she were fleeing. Regi tries denying that it was her but he won’t let her off the hook. He asks what she’s been hiding. She says that she cannot say anything to anyone, despite her trust in him, because she doesn’t want to hurt anybody else. She promises that it won’t happen again. Noel doesn’t understand but decides to let it go.

Regi returns to the priest at the convent and begs to be let back in as a novitiate. She feels that only by returning there can she save her soul from temptation. The padre says she can do that anywhere and doesn’t need the convent. She needs to escape from the world, she says, and admits that she cannot get over the love she feels for Renato. Whatever she’s done it’s been a futile waste of time and she feels it’s beaten her. Her jealousy is a daily torture and has caused serious quarrels with her sister.

At the same time, Clemencia is trying to get Aimee to see reason and take responsibility. The family’s good name is at risk. Aimee says she’s already told her that she and the man have broken it off, so to leave her alone. Clemencia asks her to tell her where they used to meet. Aimee says at the Caves of Santa Cruz.

Speaking of caves, Juan is limping in pain and cursing the name of Rodrigo Montes de Oca. He remembers Aimee’s threats to treat him with the same coldness and cruelty as he’s treated her. “Aimee, Aimee. If you could only know! If you only knew the truth!”

Back at the convent the priest rejects Regi’s reasons for wanting to become a nun. He sympathetically tells her she’s been using the convent as a refuge from the world without truly hearing a call from God. God has given her a test and so far she hasn’t passed it. She says she simply can’t cope any longer having to listen to Ren speak of his adoring love for Aimee. The Padre refuses to allow her back. He says she should go home and pray, but also she must stop wearing her habit. Regi objects, saying her habit gives her strength. The priest says no, she’s only using it as a shield from whatever she’s hiding from. From today on she will stop being Sister Regina and will again be Regina Montes de Oca.

Not sure if this is a spoiler, if so delete it.
I hope I am right on the TV y Novela Premios because they have deleted it. I don't think they want the EEUU to know yet.
It looks like Dinero took all the big ones.
Pedro Fernandez, Dinero
Itali whatever her name is
Dinero TN
Maria Victoria Sortilegio
David Zepeda Sortilegio

Sob, Sob, not Wm Levy or FC

It looks like Dinero might be good, I have just wasted my time with Salveje.

Soy tu Dueña coming.
Para FC faniticas

I, blog mom, absolutely love dinero. CS, well, I can't even watch the commercials for it.

Jardinera: Excellent recap as always. I was laughing at your description of the last scene with the Padre not allowing Regina keep the habit. He was obviously as annoyed to see her wearing it as everybody else on this site!

I would have loved to see Aimée's reactions to Renato's love poems. Of course poor lovestruck Regina loved them, I'm sure Aimée would had have to fight sleep. That little torture would serve her right.

Variopinta: The clips they used for Mi Pecado had HUGE spoilers and there were also some spoilers for Dinero so maybe that was part of the reason they took the show off youtube.

Jarocha

Thanks, Jardinera, for your fine recap. So, Regi is back in living color and Aimee is getting married in a week. I am sure she will make a wonderful partner for Renato (NOT).

Thanks, Variopinta, for the TV y Novelas results. At least Zepeda won. I adore him as a villain.

Thank you for your another fabulous recap Jardinera! :-)

Dinero: after the disastrous Las vías del amor and rather dizzy Amigas y rivales I put Emilio Larrosa on my black list. This man is hundred times worse than Mejía. Well, to be fair, recently I started to watch La verdad oculta, it seems to be bearable so far, but I think I'm just biased for Yanez and Gabriel Soto.

Aside from the producer my problem with Dinero is that it was extended to eternity, it's going to have approximately 225 episodes.
For comparison: Sortilegio started on 1 of June last year, MP on 15 of June, CS on 12 of October, and all of them ended (CS it's going to end in two weeks), while HQEDNS aired on 29 of June and it still goes. Not a big fan of extending TNs, and comic novelas are not my cup of tea either (except Kachorra with Natalia Oreiro).
However, I like Itatí Cantoral and Víctor Noriega and I heard that Pedro Fernández is great, too. I guess they deserved their awards.

Corazón was nominated to many TVyN awards, but didn't win any, unfortunately - imho de la Fuente and Chayanne would've deserved to win.

I think the clips of the show were deleted due to copyright claims.

So, capítulo 31:
- I'm tired of watching Whuaaannn agonizing/pining after Aimée in the Love Cave. Let's move on, fever doesn't suit him well.

- Hate poems, but I can't feel with Regina's enthusiasm. :) On the other hand, the creators definitely hate Regi: she had to listen to Renato professing his endless, lustful love for La Bruja, then his plain brotherly love for her, and on top of it all he promised her that she's going to find a boyfriend. Ack. Triple heart stabs.

- Team Regina presente, she virtually knocked out her hermana. I appreciate the fact that this girl isn't a snivelling Matilde/Slowfía. Her self-sacrificing tendencies and her luuuuuv for Renato are irritating, and wearing that bedsheet should be a capital crime, but this girl has spine and strength.

- It's funny to watch how much Rodrigo favors this worthless Federico while he rejects the best eligible man in Veracruz. So now he and Leo are afraid of Pablo, because they were the ones who murdered his uncle. Interesting.

"Aimee begins to cry. (Viewerville’s compassion meter is at -10 and falling.)"
:-DD 10/10 points for Jardinera. :-)

"They’ll both be sent to the convent for life."

I try to imagine this scenario. It'd be priceless, no priest or monk in 50 miles would remain innocent if Aimée became a nun.

“I knew that day in the forest when I found you that you were different and that your mission in life was something other.”

Yes, playing a modern Robin Hood is a real class act. *sarcasm* But at least they robbed the bad guys.

"the other young servant in the house (Celestina?)."

Celia, I think, but not sure about it.

"He says she should go home and pray, but also she must stop wearing her habit."

Thanks for God, Allah, Buddha, Jupiter and all the saints. Bye, bye, nun habit.

Jardinera thanks as always for a fun reading recap.

Jarocha does this mean no one from ENDA won any award at all not even Leticia Calderon as Carlotta?

Anon: No, fortunately Lety Calderón and Sebastián Zurita won. :-)

Here's the list:
Best novela: HQEDNS
Protagonists: Cantoral, Fernandez (HQEDNS)
Male villain: David Zepeda (Sortilegi)
Female villain: Calderón
Senior actor: Luis Gimeno (MEPS)
Senior actress: Daniela Romo (Sorti - I adore this woman, but imho Daniela Castro should've won for her magnificent acting in Mi pecado)
Supporting actor: Raúl Araiza (Un gancho...)
Supporting actress: Violeta Isfel (Atrévete a sonar)
Juvenil actor: José Ron (Los Exitosos Pérez)
Juvenil actress: Danna Paola (Atrévete a Sonar)
Revelación femenina: Samadhi (Atrévete a Sonar)
Revelación masculina: Sebastián Zurita (En Nombre del Amor)
Best song: Danna Paola - Mundo de Caramelo (Atrévete a Sonar)
Best story: Mi pecado (YES)
Best directing and cinematography: Sortilegio

I don't think it's a spoiler, the videos were deleted because it was a big show and TV channels don't like when their productions are published without permission. Oscar/Emmy/Tony clips are often deleted, too.

I think Emilio Larrosa has it's moments when he finds a way to make a very good novela. I don't think the same of Mejía but he at least has most of the time makes novelas people like to watch.

I'm not gonna lie, I sort of really liked the musical theme that was chosen. I think the lyrics are a fun play of words and the music is nice, it was my favorite of the nominees and I didn't even watch the novela (although maybe that had to do with the fact I liked it, since I didn't have to hear it everyday).

Anon. Lety did won best antagonist, but she didn't go to the ceremony. She was initially nominated for best actress but was moved to antagonist a few days before the awards.

Jarocha

Jarocha to me since Hasta is still running it should be nominated for nest years novela. I'm sorry i don't agree with the people who chose these nominations. i amybe biased but hands down ENDA was the best novela from last year it should have won. Not only best novela, best directed and written one too.

I'm watching Mi Pecado and i am liking the story the only thing i can say about Hasta if its really good as some have said it is then it should be voted for next years awards.

Something seems very underhanded and not fair how these nominations came about. I don't think it fair to the novelas that completed before these awards were over because Hasta is still running in Mexico along with CS.

To me thats like giving a nomination to a movie that came out the following year but didn't really qualify for it and instead of waiting for the proper year for it to be nominated.

Jardinera, gracias! Great recap. :) The slap sounds like it was oh so satisfying.

Serious let-down to me that William didn't win too Variopinta. Don't worry about him though; I'm here if he needs a shoulder to cry on.

And those habits were B-a-a-a-d! Well, it looks as though we've turned a corner with our pale little blondie. I hope she starts to develop a little more personality, but perhaps not quite the vivid coloration of her hermana gemela. Rosenda has me so annoyed. That costume has got to go. It seems now that she has insinuated herself into the upper class as Leo's protegida she has abandoned the full (and more graceful) dirndl-style peasant skirt in favor of some skinny thing with a bustle and a weird piece of drapery hanging down the back. Please please please keep your shirt on. I don't know how she can move around in that thing.

Thank you Jardinera for yet another superb recap! The highlight of my weekend!

Jarocha:

I loved MEPS and I am surprised it didn't win more awards. It had very nice production values and I thought Slvia navarro was outstanding. Was she nominated for anything? She is such a talented actress.

EJ

Anon: This is a show where Televisa celebrates Televisa and they wanted to give a pat on the back of these people because they have been giving the best ratings to the network for more than 9 months now and while they are not over yet, that's more air time than any others novelas up for awards (Sorti, Mi Pecado, Mañana, ENDA) except Gancho and Atrevete a Soñar. I'm not personally a regular watcher of dinero but people loved Pedro and Itati so much here, you have no idea.

Elna June: Silvia Navarro was not nominated. I think there was a problem there though and that was the reason she didn't get the nomination. That was the one issue I personally had with the awards.

Jarocha

Jardinera~~Thanks for the great recap. After working in the yard and setting up the patio furniture, it was a treat to read your recap while dining on takeout Chinese veggies and rice. [Tomorrow, I'm the cook....ham, corn casserole, sweet potatoes, green beans, biscuits, cole slaw.] Ah..padre has seen through Reggie using her habit as a tent to hide in. It's going to be a hard habit to break. Agnes~I agree with you about Rosie's new outfit . The yellow satin mermaid skirt with that little chiffon train and the gravity-defying blose are very odd.

P.S. I get a kick out of Leo's habit of waving her hands around when she gets wound up and Aimee's signature bustle swing [which was particularly funny in the habit]. Swing it , Sister ! Subtle, she's not. I like to see actors take on gestures for their characters. I am reminded of the way FC walked as Luis in Alborada. He kind of swung his shoulders as he walked in a very confident , swaggering way. In Amor Real, FC gave Manuel the habit of rubbing his cheek with his fist.

Thanks for another fun and complete recap, Jardinera. Loved the compassion meter readings.

It's ironic that Regina could be thrown into the convent against her will by order of her father, but when she wants to go voluntarily, it's no dice, she's not worthy. I am glad they repossessed the habit, though (hopefully the spare, too), it was "nun" too soon.

I really like Rosenda's outfits. I've been studying them to see how they seem to defy gravity. By the way, does she have any dialog? :)

Jarocha it seems to me then they should rename this award show to a popularity contest then. Like Elna June stated i fell in love with Sylvia Navarro's portrayal as Fenanda on MEPS.Other deserving nominees and winners should have been Altair Jarabo as Romena from ENDA, Cesar Evora the Ferdinando Valencia as German from ENDA and Arturo Peniche as PJC from ENDA.

I don't know why they just don't have a Spanish like Emmys show like we do over here. Then i think we would see a little more fairness than this biased joke of a award show.

The only reason why CS was nominated was because Mejia has so much clout and power in Televisa right.

Mad Bess/Susalynn: Other little things with Aimée is her crazy eyes and her biting the fans.

Hombre haha you are right. Poor Regina, she never gets to do anything she wants.

Anon: We don't have those types of awards for tv because there's no way to make Televisa especially reconcile with other networks and let them have a chance to win. We do have more respected awards for theater and movies and Silvia has gotten nominations for those. For her next novela she is now confirmed with the team of producer, directors and writers of ENDA so lets see how she does there. She'll have Juan Soler as a galán, lucky girl.

Jarocha

Agreed. I, too, thought it was a shame Silvia Navarro didn't get nominated. On the other hand, Lucero should have gotten nominated in the category of female villains and instead she was nominated among the lead actresses. So maybe this is what put Silvia out of the running?

Also, Cristian de la Fuente got nominated as a male villain too, which is just so out of the place. He may not be a lead actor, but Rodrigo is a villain there, not dumb Renato. So I don't know who is in charge of nominations, but they were a bit misplaced this year I felt.

Thanks to this week's recapppers, as I just caught up. Jody, Kat, Cheryl, Connie, and Jardinera: each recap was loaded with funny gems. I was busy impersonating Leona and helping some friends prepare for a wedding reception that would do honor to them. (Never again, I'm getting too old to be a social miracle worker.)

I agree that Renato is quite the gorgeous guy. Can't quite decide if his sideburns come by those neat edges naturally or if they're glued on each day.

Enjoyed the slap Regi gave Aimee. 'Bout time. I see that many don't like Rosenda. She is despicable, yet interesting as an example of a character on the make. Those drooping blouses are hanging by a thread, verdad? I guess she's flaunting her favored status along with her extreme cleavage.
La Paloma

Jarocha:

I am so glad Silvia will be working with the folks from ENDA. I think she is such a talent. I would love to see her do something in Hollywood. I wonder of she speaks English? You refer to a problem—does this have something to do with her move from Azteca? When does the new show start production?

Thanks, as always!

EJ

La Paloma:
"I see that many don't like Rosenda."

I like her very much. She's more charismatic and interesting young villana than Clownée. I also enjoy watching Gutierrez's acting.
Lol, it seems I developed some girlcrush on Mrs. Levy.

Hi there! Thanks guys. Hope all have a nice holiday weekend. Enjoy reading the comments. They're always as much fun as the recaps --always a 10+ on the laugh-o-meter! ; ? )

No, Televisa doesn't play well with others. Wishing I had time for the other 2 shows because I've heard how good they seem to be. Maybe in the next life. Anyway, I hope Silvia's next show comes at this time slot. She has become one of my favorites after seeing her in MEPS.

Great recap of course. As far as Renato being nominated for a villian, I think the potential is there (gene pool) and we just haven't seen how far he can go. I bet he'll pull out the stops once he is married to Aimee and her true colors start to appear. I'll bet she can turn him against Juan, too!

Jardinera:
"Anyway, I hope Silvia's next show comes at this time slot."

No, the 9.00 time slot is reserved for Soy tu duena. Silvia's novela ("Odio amarte", the La mentira remake with Juan Gorgeous Soler) is going to be in the 7.00 slot. People say that she should've been waiting for a primetime TN but I'm very happy for her participation in that production.

Btw, back to TVyNovelas awards:
The nomination had two rounds, in the first round there were 10 actors in every category, but in the second turn only the three-five most popular ones remained. This is how Silvia, Sabine Moussier, César Évora, Yanez, Víctor Noriega, Magda Guzmán, María Rojo, Olivia Bucioand Chantal Andere fell out of the competition.

Lucero's and Lety Calderón's nomination made a scandal.
1. Lety was nominated as best actress, and Lucero had the best villain category.
2. Then Lucero was shifted to the mejor actriz category, too.
3. Later Calderón went back to the villains.
This shifting had only one purpose: to give Lucero an award. I didn't succeed, though. I'm afraid this is why Silvia's nomination was snubbed.

Other shifts and changes: originally Enrique Rocha was nominated as the best villain. I laughed at it - he was great and charismatic in Yo compro esa mujer, and I like him in CS, but he plays the mildest grandpa villain ever. Even Salvador Pineda outshines him. Then he was send to the primer actors' team and instead of him CDLF got nominated.

I can't talk about Cristián's nomination without spoilers, but he completely deserved it, and many people thought that he was going to receive the award. I swear I'm not a biased fangirl, I never thought that he could act his way out of a paper bag.

Good morning, all. I really like the main musical theme to this novela, as sung by Chayanne, so I recorded my own amateur version of it. here’s a link to the song. Hope you like it.

Jardinera, thank you for the recap. I will enjoy it; you always do a great job.

I was visited yesterday with a migraine, so I haven't even watched the show yet. But I will be back later.

Thanks again.

Aribeth/Vario/Jarocha: Then I say great reason to use my DVR! I will have it running for Silvia for sure! I don't know where you three find this information, but it keeps us informed about the machinations behind the scenes of these addictive telenovelas and I do welcome it. It would seem the blog mom does too. I'm glad to follow her lead. (Thanks, Melinama.)

Cielo: definitely a slap heard 'round the world!
===========
LadyXoc/Mad Bess: AgnesNJ/Susanlynn - Rosenda may think she's heading up the ladder, but the way she slopped her "finery" in the mud still says a lot about her. You can raise the girl out of the trash, but you can't take the trash out of the girl. It drove me crazy thinking of how she got her skirt (chintzy as it was) so filthy and didn't think/bother to change it before taking that dinner tray to Arcadio and proffering her "charms" so suggestively to him. Blechhh!!!
==================
Jarocha: I was mesmerized by the way the Padre in the last scenes was so gentle with Regina. He was one priest who didn't come across with harsh fire and brimstone to get his point across to his member of the flock. Sometimes they are presented in a somewhat negative light in these things when a thing like this comes up. (Just my generalized opinion because I cannot come up with specifics as my aging brain isn't functioning yet.)
=========
Elna June: Somehow I think Renato, once he sees Regi "in living color" again will soon regret Aimee as his first choice. He may see how much more he enjoys her company than Aimee's. He may realize too late the difference between lust and love.

Hombre: OMG, it's very good! Thank you for sharing.
I didn't like the song at first (too cheesy), but after the 1000th replay/entrada it grew on me. And I became a Chayanne fan.

Hombre: That was a beautiful rendition! I loved it! You are a man of many talents! Your voice, with the guitars and accompaniment were bonísimo, Sr.!! It never ceases to amaze me what a talented group this is.

"it was "nun" too soon." LOL!
I have to admit I hadn't thought about the double standard, but you are right on target with that. It's something we've seen in these novelas de época so many times, too.
===============
Teresita: I'm with you about Renato. He's made his bed and we get to see how often he feels he's sleeping with two others in it --and how he reacts to it--is my best guess.
===========
La Paloma: "Can't quite decide if his sideburns come by those neat edges naturally or if they're glued on each day." LOL! Hubby used to sport a pair of muttonchops like that back in the day --along with high-heeled boots and plaid bell-bottoms. What a hoot to look at some of those old photos of his! 9! 8 ? P

Jardinera, thanks for the great recap - as usual. I don't have the patience to watch all of the antics of the characters - so I either watch it with the mute on - or simply read the recaps.

Hombre, I loved your rendition - thanks for sharing.

Lynne

Jardinera, I know what you mean about the priest's gentle manner, and I don't know the actor's name, but I swear he was the guy who played the Virrey de Nueva España in Alborada. All I remember is he had a bizarre curly wig and stepped out of his viceregal carriage and raised his gloved hand to the sinister Fray Alvaro (nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition), saying: "La fe no se gana de crueldad, sino con comprension." or something like that. So I have him typecast as an understanding paternalistic authority figure.

Jardinera I think the padre was presented in a nice light too. I just found it funny that he didn't accept her again and took her habits because everybody was annoyed with her wearing them so much. I'm totally with him about Regina not having the right reasons to become a nun.

About the awards:

The award Christian de la Fuente was nominated is actually called best antagonist so the character doesn't have to be evil to be chosen for that category.

Lucero was originally placed as female villain but her fans complained and wanted her to be in the best actress category like they have placed Leticia Calderón so the moved her.

Leticia Calderón was placed as best actress because the character she played was originally played by Diana Bracho in Cadenas de Amargura the original version and at the time Bracho won by an overwhelming number of votes the best actress award. This was the first and only time a villain has gotten the best actress award.

At the time Diana Bracho won, Cadenas de Amargura swept all the categories because it was the big favorite, so everybody loved this choice. This year ENDA was not the favorite nor the most popular so the nomination for Lety for best actress made people scratch their heads so the organizers sent her back to best antagonist.

And about Silvia Navarro, she was invited when the prenomination was disclosed but she inmediately declined the invitation to go because she was working on a play. The organizer got mad and took her off the list and then he claimed on the most important of Televisa's national television channels that she had said she wouldn't go if she didn't win. Silvia later sent a press communicate stating that she never said such thing and that she was flattered by the invite but that even if she was nominated and won she still wouldn't be able to go due to work committments. Then the organizer said it was truth she never say it, but that he had heard from a friend that she had said she would try to make the time to go if there was a chance to win so that it was basically the same thing. And that was in all entertainment news the week before the event.

I hope she gets a good novela with Carlos Moreno soon though, "Mañana es Para Siempre" was good for her as her first Televisa novela but it reminded me alot of her last novela in TV Azteca "Montecristo" except she stopped seeing Eduardo as a child instead of as a teen and she didn't get married with Damián because she was pregnant with her supposedly dead boyfriend's baby and Damián and Eduardo weren't best friends and Damián didn't let Eduardo become the scapegoat for his father's dirty dealings and made people believe he was dead when he was really in some awful jail and there were less action scenes and much less steamy scenes. Alexandre Dumas would shake his head at Mañana. Just kidding.

Jarocha

Jeri: Sorry you're under the weather, but nice of you to check in! Don't take one of Leonarda's headache potions, though! Lord only knows what she'd put in it! ; ? )

Lady Xoc: Can't remember back that far, but I think he's underused, or has been, in the group of tn's I've watched over the years. He'd be a great father or grandfather figure. I'd like to see him used more.

Thanks for the fine recap Jardinera! Regina did indeed administer a most satisfying slap. I only wish she could have gotten in one or two more.

What is it with the cricket noises in this show? Has anyone else noticed it? I can hear crickets in the scenes at the Finca, but no crickets in the cave scenes. I think Rod needs to call Terminex 'cause the Finca is infested!

Hi Jardinera. Your recaps are always a treat to read. The actual show...not so much. When I think about my reasons for watching (to learn Spanish) I get frustrated with the constant repetition of lame dialogue.

Love YOUR use of language however. "Viewerville's compassion meter is at -10 and falling" and my favorite "talk to the hand, preferably the ringed one".

Hated that scene of deliberate cruelty, especially as that poor lass was down on her knees on a very hard, stone, cold floor. Yeeeccch. Rosenda is a snake.

Thanks for some great Easter weekend laughs, Jardinera. And hope the weather your way is as lovely as ours is here.

It just hit me "two bad habits" a classic.

WHO the H is Luis Gimeno, he's not even listed for MEPS. I saw that on you-tube & thought it was a mistake.

The main old guy is Rogelio Guerra, Gonzalo Elizalde & Artemio Bravo.

I guess CS is for next year & if this pedaza de mierda wins anything, I'll scream. The only actor worth even getting paid is Rodrigo.

Heck, I started watching this show BECAUSE of the theme song. It's a nice song and the singer has a nice voice.

Sortilegio's theme song is why I started watching that show, too. Sorti's theme song was extra dramatic so I figured the novela would be extra dramatic, too.

Luis Gimeno played Father Bosco in MEPS.

CS was nominated this year but didn't win anything.

Jarocha
I wish you would get a name other than anonymous, I really value your input & it would be sooo much easier to find you.

Yea, CS didn't win. Mejia needs to start repairing cars.

Aribeth and Jarocha and Variopinta:

Thanks so much for the TV Y Novelas award clarifications. A friend of mine went to see Silvia int eh play she was doing—All My Son's, I think—and she said that Navarro was very good on the stage.

Jardinera: I think you are right about Renato. He is making a BAD bargain with Aimee.

Jeri: I hope you feel better. Migraines are the worst!

Variopinta and JudyB:

I confess, I watch CS only because it allows me to hear another hour of Spanish everyday, at the right time of day. At the risk of sounding negative, I have to say that I really am NOT a fan of the show. Deep sigh. I have already perfected the phrase "Te odio", and I suspect I will hear a lot more of that before the last puffy pirate shirt is seen making its way into the sunset.

Great folks on this Board, however, fine recaps and a great deal of info from our Mexican insider, Jarocha and from Aribeth in Hungary.

I like that the novelas hire very famous singers/groups to sing the theme song. Sarah Brightman (Pasión), Plácido Domingo (Alborada), Il Divo (Sorti)... impressive list.

Elna: you're welcome, dear. :) I also enjoy reading Jarocha's posts and insights of the telenovelas very much.

CS:

Diablo's advocate mode ON

I admit I'm biased towards the actors and the whole Montes de Loca storyline (YCEM, I love you), and I had very low expectations, maybe that's why I don't think that this novela would be SO awful. I can't even say that the first impressions and enthusiasm made me biased because I've been following it for five months and I'm watching it for the second time (well, in fastforwarding mode), and I still have great fun.

Yes, it's mediocre, often ridiculous, or even uncomfortable to watch, many conversations are lame, the story is incoherent (what happened to Liliana Abud, La otra and Yo compro were awesome), but imho the actors CAN act, it's not only their fault that the script sucks, they have to make ridiculous scenes and the director's in love with overacting.

I see the tons of faults, and understand the worldwide hatred towards the novela which desecrated the holy CS name, but I had to realize that there must be a big difference between my and other viewer's point of view. I've seen tons of TNs in the last twenty years, and my general view is that most of them are cheesy, exaggerated and stupid, except a few, very-very few gems.

I grew up watching not CS, Amor Real/Alborada/Pasión, Cuna de lobos or La mentira, but the worst of Mejía, Larrosa and Thalía and I haven't mentioned yet the other countries' and studios' basuras - therefore in my eyes TNs are guilty pleasures and I appreciate every single novela which gives me fun, escapism and opportunity to improve my Spanish. And if I want to watch really good stories and characters, I'll turn on and HBO or BBC show, not a TN.

So I enjoy the sweet lameness of this circus. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to whitewash CS or say that there's no difference between telenovelas and producers/writers, so criticizing them is pointless. But to be honest, I've seen more disputable casting choices and scripts than CS's in big and praised novelas which were more successful than this. So if I subtract 1. the Palomo/González cult, 2. the classic stories's rape, I mean, remake and 3. the most presumptuous producer ever factors I get a usual Telerisa novela. :) And I like Telerisa, in spite of its diseases and inability to renew itself.

Jeri: I hope you'll get better soon!

Hombre, thanks again for sharing your version of the main theme, I was listenig it all afternoon. :)

So, I finally just got to watch the episode, and now I get to listen to the recap and all the interesting comments. :-)

I'm with Aribeth: I have a good time with this telenovela; and I like Televisa.

I already know when I sit down in front of the TV if I'm having fun or not, so reviews never make much of an impression on that.

Thank you, ladies, for the well wishes; I have a kind of dyslexia that causes migraines.

P.S., Jardinera, I had to laugh at the crack about Leonarda's potions; you are so right.

And I laughed again when I saw Clemencia pour Leonarda's supposed headache potion for Aimee into the chamber pot.

Maybe later, I wondered, they might show the chamber pot leaking from being eaten away as if by acid.

A quick drop in before I head off to bed. Aribeth and Jeri, I'm with you. I watch the novelas for escape. Tonight , I also caught up on 2 episodes of The Tudors ...more murder and mayhem . Hombre~Thanks for sharing your talent. You are a Renaissance man. Well, I'd better get some sleep since I must get up at 6 for work. Hope everyone had a good holiday. Judyb~ We had a beautiful, sunny weekend, too. Perfect weather for an Easter egg hunt in the backyard !!! Only a week and a half until tax season ends. Hurrah !!!

The one bright spot in this TN is Chayanne, just wish they would show this guapisimo once in awhile, like they did Il Divo on Sortilegio.r

Thanks for the great recap Jardinera. I haven't finished reading the comments yet but I'm working on it. I think we should have some kind of burning of the habit ceremony. Light them on fire and burn baby burn!

Variopinta: Yes, that'd be nice.
I remember that Fernando Lima (the man who sang Pasión with Sarah Brightman) also had a cameo in Alborada. He sang on the wedding of Robert Luis Guzmán's character.

"I think we should have some kind of burning of the habit ceremony."

I second this idea. :)

Aribeth and Mad Bess, the good stuff we've got going right now is "Life on Mars" (BBC); "The Pacific" (HBO); and "Mad Men" (AMC) on DVD.

We just finished first-season "Poldark," which finally came out on DVD in March; the second season is due out in September.

Listening to the soundtrack again, Aimee's scene with Juan in the cave was moving. Both of them are truly hurt by the breakup; and the depth of Aimee's affection for Juan will probably only be matched by the depth of her hatred for him to come. Should be some fireworks there. Aracely did a nice job; she made a powerful scene, and it was pretty much all Aimee.

When Leonarda tells Rodrigo she's afraid Regina might have the same end as Constanza, her mother, it made me wonder whether Leonarda has the same potion in mind for Regina and will try to slowly poison her. Leonarda couldn't stand the idea that Regina's rebellious behavior might cause any harm to Rodrigo's health. She already made Regina promise not to do so.

That conversation continuing with Rosario's possible inheritable insanity makes a good lead-in to Renato's scene where he tries to suggest Pablo, the doctor, as Regina's suitor. Everybody gets reminded that Leonarda and Rodrigo are already killers of Pablo's uncle (Rosario's doctor), which would seem to make them doomed characters. But killers have absconded before, so who knows.

The discussion between Leonarda and Rodrigo about Rosenda and her mother: not clear what function either one of them has in the scheme of things, unless Marlene is going to help Juan at some point. They went to some trouble to set up a situation where Marlene is in Juan's debt and has friendly feelings toward him. And they are putting Marlene on opposite sides of Leonarda, Rodrigo and Rosenda.

So it seems that Clemencia finds out for the first time that the fellow Aimee's sneaking out to see is Juan. It seems to surprise and shock her, especially the potential for yet more tragedy involving the same people. Both twins were so upset after Aimee returned from the caves, they didn't even notice when Clemencia demanded if they wanted "another tragedy" in the house.

Clemencia has a speculative look on her face, when she asks Aimee and learns she's been meeting Juan at the caves. I wonder if Clemencia will visit him there.

That ring that Rosenda shows off to the scullery maid; kind of funny. Leonarda loves Rodrigo so much, but he gave her the ring -- and she gave it away to Arcadio, who gave it to Rosenda. Years ago Rodrigo fooled around with Rosenda's mother, and I don't recall whether he could actually be her father.

So that would be curious symbolism, if the ring journeyed from Rodrigo to Rosenda, who could be father and daughter. Maybe that could lead towards the point of the Rosenda and Marlene characters' existence. Marlene didn't have any other children by her husband. Rosenda throws in the scullery maid's face that Leonarda treats her as though she were "her own family."

And in telenovela logic, Rosenda being Rodrigo's daughter would account for why Arcadio strangely wants no truck with Rosenda: not just that he's obsessed with Leonarda, but that he can't stand any way, shape or form of Rodrigo. Rosenda brought him the same gourmet food that the Montes de Oca eat, but when she told him what Leonarda was up to with Rodrigo, he just swiped it all onto the floor without a thought. Rosenda isn't getting anywhere with Arcadio.

The crickets are especially loud in the scene in the finca office, where Leonard and Ricardo are discussing the stolen money shipment. I am pretty sure the culprit in question is the Indian House Cricket, which has been accidentally exported in shipping crates all over the world and thrive in warm climates. They drove my husband completely bonkers in southern Arizona when we lived there; they have an excruciatingly high-piched noise.

Hombre,

Loved your version of the theme song! Very impressive! Of course, you realize we'll expect more TN themes from you in the future!

Hombre's rendition is amazing; what a wonderful talent!

I admit, though, that I'm just not a particular fan of the theme song. It's ok, and it's growing on me.

Here are a few novela theme songs I've liked enough to buy: "La Otra" (Pedro Fernandez); "Me Voy A Quitar De En Medio" and "Para Siempre" (Vicente Fernandez); "Infiel" (Rocío Dúrcal); "Sentimientos Ajenos" and "Sin Pecado Concebido" (Carlos Ponce); and "¿Dónde Está La Vida?" (Francisco Céspedes).

Beth: Love your cat's picture. Like Jeri, I'm a cat person, though I like dogs, too.
================
Connie: Burn baby burn! Bonfire fare.

Jardinera, LOL, I already did try to see Beth's kitty in a larger picture, the first time I saw her avatar. But it's kind of a small picture. Who's your kitty, Beth?
