Dinero #89 and #90, 5/7/10: The Battle Begins

Hola, queridos! Thanks for your patience. The storm, thankfully, ended up missing us for the most part. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Ale does not want Nurse Rubi to stay in their house, even if (according to Marco) Urdiales recommended her. Rubi takes Jorge off to get him ready for bed. Ale softens a bit when she sees how content he is under Rubi’s care. Later, Ale stops Rubi in the hallway to put her on notice; she is to be a family servant and not a friend.

Vicky interrupts Julieta and Jaime’s makeout. She coos about how cute they are together and makes them all around uncomfortable. Rafa gets home which gives Vicky something to do with her lips other than pout and talk endlessly. She plants one on him but Rafa has to get some work done. VVV isn’t pleased and warns him he better fulfill his promise to marry her.

Rafa sits alone in his room, glances at one of the fiesta pictures of Ale, and wonders when he will forget her. Meanwhile, Ale is doing the same.

A daily meeting for Autos Siglo in the usual form: Ale scolds the employees for their awful sales, they blame Rafa for it by claiming he already got to all of their clients, Ramirez gives a long winded speech, Marino is smug, and Ale makes everyone swear they will put an end to Rafa by crushing CloAutos. Said competition is also revving up for business and plans to squash Autos Siglo. Let’s get ready to rumble!

Dandy delivers some paperwork to Susana but Ale makes it impossible for him to say a word to her.

Pepeto answers the phone for Rafa because he’s afraid Vicky is calling again. Turns out it’s Marino calling to threaten Rafa; he is going to steal all Rafa’s clients and end up on top again. Rafa is determined to not let that happen.

Ale is on the phone with a former client of Rafa’s and encourages him to continue business with the Siglo. Rafa calls the same client and finds he already talked to Ale. They’re in an all-out battle to get to the clients first.

The doctor has come to check up on Jorge. If he leads a healthy lifestyle and stays under Rubi’s excellent care, he should make a full recovery. Rosario is dubious about Rubi but the doctor sings her praises.

Vicky barges back into Rafa’s house. Just her luck, Jaime is still around but Julieta and Leonor have left. “We’re all alone. Just you and me. Are you afraid?” Jaime most definitely is afraid of VVV and tells her how happy he is with Julieta. Vicky doesn’t believe it and smooches him. Jaime pushes her away but she gets hold of his shirt and rips it open. She flips out when Jaime yells at her to stop.

Rafa gets home just in time to divert Vicky’s attention. Rafa asks Jaime what the deal is with his shirt. Jaime says he opened it because his tie was too tight, even though he wasn’t wearing one.

Rubi asks Azucena to fix the dinner she made for Jorge because it isn’t healthy enough. Azucena is steamed; she has been preparing meals for years and only takes orders from family members. Azucena is so offended she’s ready to quit and go back to her house. Ale and Rosario try to convince her to stay but it’s no good.

Chavez and the Naughty Cop from a few weeks ago are wandering around the hacienda grounds at night. They run into Chucho, the groundskeeper, and Rosendo, another worker. Rain, thunder, wind, lightening, creepy laughter, and a huge shadow on the wall scare them into thinking the hacienda ghost is out for revenge. A headless horseman rides past and scares the daylights out of everyone.

Rubi feeds Jorge soup and gives him his medication. Rosario and Ale want to get rid of Rubi but are afraid for Jorge’s health without Nurse Feelgood.

Ale has to put on the apron and do the dishes herself now that Azucena is gone. She and Rosario complain to Marco about Rubi. Marco stops Rubi before she leaves to talk about her attitude with the women of the house. Rubi says they have no medical knowledge. “Well, neither do you!” Marco suggests she dress more appropriately but takes it back when she gives him a view of her, uh, medicinal properties.

Julieta gets home to take Jaime on a movie date. Rafa admits he didn’t really have work to do; he just wanted Vicky to leave. It’s driving him crazy that he can’t get Ale out of his head. Rafa is still set on making a business deal big enough to settle all his debt. He finds a bottle of tequila and downs some shots alone in the kitchen. “You are the love of my life, Alejandra.”

Marco and Ale chat with less coldness between them. He gives her a kiss on the cheek to say goodbye. Ale pours herself a shot of tequila and drinks to Rafa’s health. “Medina, you are the love of my live."

The next morning, Ale drills the employees on increasing their sales. Claudia heard a rumor that CloAutos wants to start a war with Autos Siglo and obviously Rafa is behind it. Beltran joins the Siglo meeting and Ale explains that CloAutos has been trying to persuade Siglo clients to change companies. She defends Rafa when Marino and Ramriez say Rafa is a ruthless traitor. Enticing clients is a common business strategy. Ale wants to compete by offering better prices.

Meanwhile, Rafa is briefing the CloAuto club about Ale’s counteroffensive to their sales tactics. He wants to change their strategy by offering lower prices and more promotions. Lic. Gomez likes Rafa’s enthusiasm but company profit margins have continued to fall; they don’t have the economic strength for a new plan. Rafa is still determined to succeed and joins the CloAutos chant.

Jorge gives Rubi a history lesson as he shows her around the around the garden. Rubi gleefully kicks off her shoes and does a little dance on a pole in the yard. Jorge questions what she’s doing and Rubi says she’s reliving old times.

The Siglo meeting marches on and Beltran singles Zetina out. Instead of sitting in silence, Zetina stands up for himself and says he is a hard worker who wants to lead by example. “Then why do you never talk?” Ramriez asks. “Because you never let me!” Zetina yells. (Right on!) Marino tells Beltran he has a meeting with a very important client and will singlehandedly beat CloAutos. Ale rallies them all to get selling. They file out of the room and leave Ramriez singing the Siglo anthem by himself.

Rafa gets another call from Marino; the war is on. He also gets a call from VVV, who has her usual complaints. Rafa gets tangled up talking to Vicky and a client at the same time but finds out Siglo already got to his client. Rafa leaves Vicky on the line and sets the phone on his desk to please her.

Dandy pours his heart out to Susana. Her silence and indifference have been worse than a life sentence. He isn’t going to give up and dreams of the day she will listen to him again. He loves her and misses her very much. In full view of Susana, Dandy makes a big show of demonstrating how he’s changed. The other employees mock him for becoming such a softie. Instead of going out to the trancazo with them, Dandy has a salad and juice delivered. He sits cross-legged on a table and starts to meditate. Ale notices and thinks Dandy has lost his mind. Susana is amused and has definitely softened to him.

Ale cheerfully answers a call from Marco. He lets her know if there’s anything she needs, all she has to do is call him. Chavez teases Marco for looking so love struck. Marco just needs to get back in Ale’s good graces. He doesn’t even have to worry as much about Rafa since he is in an all out business war with Ale. Chavez tells Marco about the headless horseman at the hacienda but Marco doesn’t believe it and says Chavez needs to stop drinking.

Rafa is at a loss when yet another client is lost to the Siglo because of Ale. Pepeto asks why they don’t challenge a different company. Rafa gives three reasons (a trend lately): 1) Defeating the Siglo is the objective of the month. 2) Because the Siglo is their closest competition. 3) Rafa wants to show Ale that he isn’t a poor devil she can tear to pieces.

Ale is delighted when she secures another client for the Siglo. Susana isn’t so sure they will be able to meet their goal for the month but Ale is certain. Ale hands over some paperwork to Marino and begs him to get the sale. He promises to have a signed contract on her desk by 4 PM.

Rafa tells Gomez that the Siglo has started strong and already stole two of his clients. But Rafa has a plan: he wants to offer special deals only to important clients and he needs permission to buy company bonds. Rafa wants to give the bonds to people who could help them secure business, like the secretaries and receptionists. They would be very impressed with the company, which could give them an edge on the competition. Rafa agrees to have the money taken out of his commission; he has to have the bonds because he is on the verge of a very important business deal. Gomez likes the idea and pulls Rafa into his office to go over the details.

Monica saunters into CloAutos, greets Rafa, and tells him that she works there. She handles social services and relationship management. Monica slithers a little too close for comfort and Rafa says relationships between employees are forbidden. Monica knows better, though. “Weren’t relationships prohibited when you were at the beach with your jefa?” Pepeto interrupts and Monica takes off.

Marino sits in the waiting room of a prestigious company. None other than Rafa comes running down the hallway to ask the secretary for an appointment. Marino and Rafa exchange words; Marino is not going to let Rafa take his client. Rafa gives a packet of bonds to the secretary and she agrees to let him go in ahead of Marino to see the Licenciado.

Avances: “Something. Totally. Unexpected.” Vicky finds one of the fiesta pictures of Rafa and Ale! Uh oh…

Hi Flores, tonights episodes were fun, how true the battle begins. Loved your they "are afraid for Jorges health without nurse feelgood." She is quite funny. I think she may be a bit sweet on our Georgie.

Looking forward to reading the rest. Thank you for hanging in there with the rest of us. These two hours recapping are quite the workout. Will check back in tomorrow after work.

Oh, and hope you wheathered the storm without any major problems and are safe and sound.

Hi Flores. We thought we were going to have to batten down the hatches here too. Quite a lot of wind and it's cold, cold, cold this morning.

"Rafa gets home which gives Vicky something to do with her lips other than pout..." Love it. And like Pata, Nurse Feelgood is a keeper. Oh yeah, Rubi feels good I'm sure, and she certainly looks good. Would I want her in MY house, no! but as a character I find her quite charming and endearing. And clearly so does Jorge.

Thanks for a great start to our weekend, Flores. Looking forward to the rest.

Floresdeazul,

I hope you survived the storm and are still safe, warm, and dry. Good job. I'm in awe of each of you for not only tackling a 2 hr. show each evening, but maintaining your high quality of writing, unique style and humor, and excellent detail.

I'm getting to know the characters better. I didn't start watching until Wed. Yesterday, I mentioned that I think that Vicki is beautiful but didn't get a chance to see much of her personality yet. Well, last night, I did. Wow. I love her sudden shifts in demeanor. She is downright frightening. Last night I was feeling sorry for both Rafa and Jaime. She reminds me of the charming Loriloca in Gancho without the homicidal inclination.

Of course I'm enjoying nurse Rubi. I loved it when Rafa jumped in to tell the Dr. that she studied at la Escuela de la Candelaria de los Patos, no doubt a highly regarded nursing school. Her challenging the medical knowledge of Azucena and Rosario was great. I hope she stays around for quite awhile.

Good morning, Pata and Judy. Judy, you stay safe, warm , and dry as well. I'm hoping that we get a little rain today. My heart goes out to the folks in Tenn., In particular our own Sandy and Doris.

Carlos

Thanks for the recap Flores. Looking forward to the rest. I hope you and Judy didn't have too many problems with the weather.

Carlos, Vicky is also homicidal. Not sure if you know, Vicky's dad owns a butcher shop. Her and her brothers work there. That is why her brothers seem to like knives. Well, Vicky loves knives, too. There have been earlier scenes where she has talked to Rafa on the phone or thought about him and it was good that the meat was already dead, she's skewered quite a bit of meat and cutting boards. One time, she cut the meat up in her house and flung it all around the house and walls. Her dad and brothers came home and meat clinging to everything. Not sure who ended up cleaning that mess up. :)

Thanks for part one of the recap, Flores, lots of fun to read.

BTW, Marco always refers to being with Urdiales. Is that a real person?

Thanks for the well wishes, everyone! We lucked out and most of the really bad stuff missed us. There were places that had golf ball sized hail. Yikes!

Hombre, Urdiales is a real guy but Marco doesn't actually know him. Marco and Ale ran into him at a restaurant once and Marco had to do some fast talking as to why he wouldn't invite Urdiales to join them.

Hi again Flores. We spent the morning at a college graduation. Haven't seen the second half but after reading your recap, will be sure and do so. I definitely want to see Dandy meditating on top of his desk. Should be quite a sight.

And oh yes, the "three things". They seem to be tipping their hat to Gancho. That'll go over big with me, Carlos, Hombre and Jeff for sure!

Hi Flores- Great recap! Both parts. I hope you and everyone else in the storm battered areas are ok, without too much damage.

I feel sorry for Jaime, but I have to admit I was cracking up during the scenes with him and Vicky. Especially when she ripped his shirt open. :) The actress playing Vicky is doing a great job. She's actually quite pretty, but she has such expressive and large eyes and a mouth that can make her look wide eyed innocent, pouty and sultry, or downright ferocious and deranged. And all in the same scence! I'm still amazed that this is the same actress that played the dowdy, abused wife in Querida Enemiga. She's also a singer in real life, but it doesn't look like they'll give her an opportunity to sing in this show. At least not in her normal voice.

I'm also liking "Nurse" Rubi a lot. She and Jorge are very sweet together. Loved seeing them give each other a high five when the doc gave them the good news about Jorge's improved health. And, she's taking her job very seriously- both of them (since she rushes every evening to get to the club on time). She must be keeping late nights with one job, and coming to the house to be with Jorge early every morning. That's dedication. She's also really sweet to everyone (unless she thinks they're feeding Jorge no-no foods). The ladies of Casa Jorge need to chill.

Hombre- Also in the scene where Ale and Marco bump into Urdiales at the restaurant, Marco sees his opportunity to score points when he sees Urdiales go to the bathroom. He goes too and speaks to Urdiales as if he's a big fan (as if ministers/judges have fan clubs), and that it would really score him points with his girlfriend if Urdiales walked by their table and said hi. Urdiales, being a man, understands wanted to impress your lady, so he does it. So this really helped his continued Urdiales excuse stories for why he's always late or unavailable. Another score for Marco. He's very clever.

Did anyone else catch that Rubi is now considering becoming a nurse for real? Seems this experience may put her on another career path. But can you imagine her in a hospital, suddenly kicking off her clogs and doing a pole dancing routine on a patient's I.V. stand! :)

Just got home from work and the first thing I did was to check Caray. Thanks for the second part Flores.

Did anyone else notice what was playing on the TV in the background at Rafas' house? It was Las Tontas no van al Cielo. That always cracks me up when they have another univision TN showing in the background. They always seem to do that too.

I loved Rafa coming in and squeezing out Marino. That was the best. Little confused about the bond thing though. Is it like doscount coupons?

And I loved Rubis' little spin around the pole. She is so funny and sweet.

It does look like Susana is softening. I so enjoy the whole Susana Dandy story line. (Not the part where she got her heart ripped open) but just their relationship in general. Dandy has the best facial expressions. The table meditation was a hoot Judy and worth seeing.

Flores glad to hear you are safe and sound and all the bad stuff missed you. We have just been having wet, cold 39F weather here.

I have gotten to see it now, Pata. The way Dancy can roll his eyes back is absolutely terrifying....and funny. I also found it interesting that our flaky Claudia calmly explained to Ale that he was meditating and reaching his own special Nirvana. Score one for Claudia and deduct points for screechy Ale.

Rubi is a keeper! Choked when she said she like things that were "erguido y firme". There's a girl who truly loves her job. And does it with dedication.

Flores, thank you for your entertaining recaps and I like the different types for the two episodes to help me continue where I had left off. Thanks to all you lifesaver recapers for helping me to not only better understand one recap but two per noche. I wonder why Uni doesn't let us know when STUD will be starting? I wonder if it hasn't anything to do with the World Cup they have been advertising?

I didn't expect Susana and Dandy to break up so quickly and even though they showed some time had passed, I'm glad Dandy's sincerity and perseverance are breaking her down her defenses a bit. He seems to have been a very good student with all the chanting and meditation going on as well as his continuing vegi diet. I loved it when he mentioned he had thought of his future with Susana and their Danditos and Susanitas...so cute. What a change for a die hard womanizer.

I love Marco as he comes across so sincere and good hearted that he can fool me into thinking he is good guy when he's really a conman. However, his conversation with Nurse Rubi Feelgood was so sweet when he was telling her she wasn't a real nurse. LOL.

GinCA

Pata- Yes, I noticed Tontas in the backgound. The tv at Casa Rafa is always on, and there's always a telenovela with one of our other telenovios on it. Maybe that's their stealthy way of adding the beefcake we are missing in this show. ;-) The tall half of B&V in this novela was on Tontas as a (very non gay) butler. I wondered if they purposely try to pick novelas in the background that have some tie to the current cast, but then realized that there is always someone in the cast of one novela that was part of any other novela you can think of.

I like how Rafa is not touching any of Dandy or Bebe's big clients because they were always good and loyal to him. And Ramiro has no big clients, so it doesn't matter.

I think the bonds Rafa had for the secretary were like a coupon for about $400 off if she bought a car from Siglo. She said she couldn't afford a car, but he said if she came to Siglo, he'd show her how it was possible.

Rafa sure does have a lot a ladies attracted to him. None of which he likes as much as Ale. Hmmmm.

Thanks Hombre, I thought it was something like that.

I'm another fan of Rubi. Her becoming a real nurse reminds me of Martina from Manana es Para Siempre. She went from mud wrestling to nursing, didn't she? This TN is growing on me.

AmyK

Flores, a great recap. Thank you so much. I'm glad the weather is back to normal and that you can enjoy your weekend.

That little niece of Ledezma smells like trouble.

And wasn't it for the first time that Ale admitted that Medina is the love of her life?

Some of you may know that I like to record amateur versions of telenovela songs. JudyB requested Pedro Fernández's song Amarte a la Antigua, so Here's my version of the song. I also decided to do an English version, trying to translate the lyrics, while still preserving the rhyme and the feeling, if possible. Here's the English version. Enjoy!

Hombre, How wonderful. You are really talented. I enjoyed the English version a lot! Usually the English version leaves me cold vs. the Spanish. But in this case, after listening to your rendition, I went back to YouTube and watched Rafa sing to Ale on the beach and enjoyed it even more. Very romantic.

And Flores, thank you for another 2 hour recap. I appreciate it so much. Your title-so true. I am eagerly anticipating Rafa and Ale meeting face to face again.

Vicky was back in her usual "good" form with this episode. At Julieta's birthday party, she seemed almost normal. But her craziness with Jaime, screeching at Rafa on the phone...just like old times.

Add me to the list of those enjoying Rubi. At first I was a just a little bored by the obvious Jorge falls for breasts storyline. But I agree she actually is sweet and enthusiastic. Jorge and Rubi together are endearing. And GinCA, I too liked Marco's little talk with her and how he had to remind her she really wasn't a nurse.

Beautiful...thank you, Hombre, for both versions. To me, your voice is reminiscent of Gordon Lightfoot. As Simon Cowell of American Idol says, "you made the song your own."

GinCA

Hombre...wow, even though I didn't find this till this morning, I'm going to consider that a wonderful Mother's Day present. Thanks so much.

Like Barbara, I was surprised to see I really like the English translation too. You maintained the "feel" and the tender yearning of the ballad. Bien hecho Hombre! and mil gracias besides.

Glad you liked it, Judy, and thanks to Barbara and GinCA for your kind words. It was lots of fun to record this song (our piano had just been tuned, so I got to try it out), and it also helped me improve my Spanish!

Hombre, I love your take on the song. You have a great voice. I've been having a busy morning, but I bookmarked the website and I will listen to rest of the themes in the evening. Thank you.

Maria, some of the songs I uploaded a while back no longer work. I think if no one downloads something for a month, it becomes inactive. But I can always re-upload a particular song, upon request.
