Dinero Monday May 24, 2010 Mission Impossible A La Mexicana

Let's skip the rehash. Beltran's got Medina and Alejandra in his office for a pep talk. Your mission, Medina, if you accept it, is to develop a close relationship with Marion Celeste. What a babe! Rafa agrees. Ale is annoyed and decides she's not needed for this "guy talk". Flounces out and the boys commiserate about how sensitive wimmin can be. Rafa admits that Vicky Vicky Vicky is definitely in that category.

Speaking of, she's busy working over Jaime. Moaning about the baby being born without a father. And musing about what her brothers could do to poor Jaime....unless he comes through and fixes up a carnal get-together with Rafa. Seems like they haven't done those "cositas" in a long while so she needs a get busy date pronto. Just to drive home the message, she gives Jaime three quick slaps in the face. This guy was born to be abused.

Back at the Big House, Big Rubi is incensed. Not happy about plans to move to the hacienda being cancelled. Even less happy with the decor in the current digs. Wants to throw the portrait of Jorge's adored Maria Consuelo out. And now she's gone too far. Hooray for Jorge. He quietly informs her that he's appreciated all she's done, but he's ready to take care of himself now. And the peace and harmony of the home is very important. His daughter, his sister, and the spirit of his wife are what counts. She zips up her uniform, packs those puppies in ,and adios Rubi.

And hello fiesta. Beltran has convened the sales staff to inform them today is the 12th anniversary of Auto Siglo and they're going to throw a cocktail party to celebrate. Big yawn. General jumps up and says the po' folks prefer a fiesta. Now there's interest. Okay, they'll be in charge and that's that.

We break for one of those weird random scenes. This time it's the beauty parlor and a shaggy old guy comes in wanting a haircut. Since he's hard of hearing, there are a lot of misunderstandings. clientes/dientes. muele, duele. He ends up coming on to the curvaceous lady and wants to party. Next! as Carlos would say.

Medina now gets up to talk and Marino stalks out. Too bad because Medina has parceled out his old list of clients and is sharing them with all the other sales people. Ramirez, ever the toady, is ready to give part of his list to Marino but our self-appointed stud is so sure of his superiority he tears it up. No need of your crumbs "migajas", thank you very much.

Rubi, on the other hand, wants a lot more than crumbs. Her silence is worth its weight in gold . Nope, how about dollars. Lots of green ones. Marcos is going to have to pay her to keep quiet about the financial hanky panky going on with the hacienda.

Chavez has the solution. Blackmailed for life by Rubi? No way. How about killing her? Marcos isn't up for that. As he points out" we're swindlers, not killers". Okay. Send her on a long trip then. Upshot? They talk her into heading to Iraq. And passing herself off as a North American. Yep. Perfect. Wave the flag, wear a badge. Speak English. They're gonna love you. Wait till all those rich, limousine driving sheiks get a hold of you. ( Thank God this is a comedy. I'm sure Rubi's excellent adventure in the Middle East will work out just fine. )

So back to Auto Siglo. It's another night of putting off Marcos and Vicky. Another night of Rafa and Alejandra thrown together, with the tequila flowing. Where will this go? We have the tedious phone calls, the bickering, the threats, the apologies. You've heard it all before. Let's move on.

Suddenly, a limousine pulls up and out steps Marian Celeste, with a couple of bodyguards. The Auto Siglo boys are entranced. So is Rosaura. She makes a game bid for Marian's attention...as in, your dad played golf with my husband's father. Same social circles yada yada. And if Medina can't help you, please come to me. Like that's gonna happen.

Marian sweeps in. Rafa quickly ends his phone call with Vicky. Alejandra smolders and the temperature in the office rises a good twenty degrees. First some gushing about the party. Too bad he left so early. The Mariachis arrived and it was so much fun dancing. Well hey, he loves to dance. Negotiates a few steps and she's entranced. They execute a rock an roll move (in my day it was called the jitterbug, I blush to admit) and then it's down to business.

Out in the sales foyer, Rosaura is filling in the staff on what Marian's really like. Seems she goes for the nacos. Chauffeurs, tennis pros, as bad as Princess Stefanie with her bodyguard romances. Takes 'em out to her country house (quinta) and has at it. (desfoga sus instintos sin limites) Wow. Sure 'nough, in the office, Marian is telling Medina they should seal the deal with a meal at her quinta the next day. And here's how it will go. Five trucks the first month, then five more the following month, until eventually they have replaced all their old fleet with new trucks from Auto Siglo. (anyone want to bet how this is going to go?)

Well, let's elevate our thoughts a little and join Jaime in church. He's praying fervently to Christ (Diosito) for help in managing the VickyVickyVicky problem. After all, God created her and now he has to help Jaime out. Because surely the Good Lord doesn't want Jaime dead. Or the baby orphaned. So HELP! Just to up the ante, he gets a cellphone call from Vicky warning him that time's running out. And now Rafa's got another party at Auto Siglo. Convince him to leave early and get busy with Vicky or there'll be hell to pay.

Mientras tanto, Alejandra has slipped out of work to check on Dad and Rosario. Pop is a little confused by the change in plans. What about the plumbing? Why don't we need to move to an apartment? Alejandra explains the fib, reluctantly admits the back taxes problem but assures him it's been worked out that they can pay off the debt in monthly installments. No more than what she would have been paying in rent anyway. Okay. One problem down, one to go. Rosario wants to invite Marco to dinner to thank him for all his help. No can do. Another party at Auto Siglo. With (head toss boink boink = Rafa?) asks Dad. Indeed. Thunderous look. More apologies. And it's back to work.

Beltran, meanwhile, has been summoned to the Queen. She's even got the requisite dogs, baroque furniture, fusty hat and suit worthy of an English monarch. And not impressed with Beltran's plans for a 12th anniversary fiesta. After all, the place isn't making much money. He blusters that it's just an "esparcimiento" (relaxation, recreation) for the troops. She suspects it's more like a "borrachera'" (drunken party) but whatever. And no, she can't come. Too many other things to do. Heads of state, doctor's appointments, you know. But expect a surprise visit from time to time. And she's pleased to hear that Medina will be handling the Celeste account and that it's promising. Beltran is dismissed. And dissed. Has that man ever been likable? she asks her assistant after he leaves. Nope. That's what I thought. Some love talk to the dogs and then they're dismissed as well. To do their business outside.

Business back at Auto Siglo is the usual. Alejandra's fuming because Rafa is clearly excited about the Celeste deal. Singing. Much she put up with that? It's toned down to whistling. Still fuming. And Rosauro is having trouble with her huffy husband. He doesn't want her to go to the party. He knows she'll drink. (and we know why) General gives her a good pep talk about not being a submissive wife and she hangs up on hubby. Then snivels. Pepeto, sensing a conquest possibility, grabs Dandy's handkerchief and moves in for the kill. He can't stand a woman's tears. She evidently can't stand a naco moving in on her. Pulls away but gives the hanky a good spritz with her French perfume so he has something to inhale while being rejected. He's optimistic though. And maybe he should be. Time will tell.

Now our two feuding lovers, Alejandra and Rafa ,have been called in to the Queen's presence. She scolds them like they were grade school kids. Because that's how they're acting. And she wants harmony, respect and cordiality in the workplace. And lots of sales. So straighten up and fly right. Or better yet--get together outside the office. For a coffee. Or some tequila. Anything, but work out your differences. After all, neither of you is married. Right? And they're dismissed. And discussed. Chato, love is so difficult. Those two adore each other....and hate each other. But Chato has nothing to say. Well, hell, that's what she likes about him. Now take the dogs out again to pee.

A good time to return to church. Jaime is camped there evidently. This time he's on the phone to Medina, trying to persuade him to skip the party and pay a little loving attention to Vicky. Rafa can't understand why he's meddling this way. Well, if you don't like my meddling, quit talking to me about your problems! I'm just trying to help. And you told me last night you had a commitment with Vicky. So honor it already!

Another random scene. This time Susana and Dandy are having lunch. He's masticating what looks like a bunch of alfalfa sprouts and swearing that the only "meat" he's interested in is Susana. Not poetic but she seems to like it. Sexy receptionist walks by and he attempts to show he's still hot stuff with the ladies, but with a sprout stuck in his teeth, he lacks charisma. Susana's amused. He's deflated. But looks perfectly happy anyway. Ah love.

In the salesroom, plans are still afoot for the party. The general thinks the drinking should start early. Why be held back by bourgeois morality? And who should go get the early booze supplies? Well, good old Dandy. He knows the way and he's elected.

And Chavez and Marcos are wrapping up their latest skullduggery. Chavez leaves the waiter a tip and Marcos quibbles about his generosity. Rubi has left to conquer Iraq. All is well but then the skanky lawyer friend arrives. Says he knows the hacienda is no longer embargoed and it could revert to Jorge immediately. Marcos little fraud is about to be discovered. Chavez and Marcos? Caras impactadas. And there we end. Lots of random scenes and not much headway in plot development, but promising problems to come with hot to trot, naco-loving Marian Celeste.

Previews:
Ramiro is taking a hard line with his wife and staying for the party. Claudia is all over Beltran who's loving it. The dreaded Vicky arrives. Is the party over? Find out tomorrow.

Judy, loved your thorough and descriptive recap. Haven't seen these episodes so I enjoyed your storytelling skill. And, the vocabulary and dicho are icing on the cake--made to be written down and savored for now and future study.

So, Rubi is gone. If so, a little surprised it was so soon. And to Iraq. What an interesting adios for her. Not likely something we would see on U.S. television. Excellent adventure indeed! LOL (but cringing a little as well).

Hi Barb. Well, I doubt if she's really gone. She sallied forth from the bar quite excited about the trip prospect, but I'm sure something will keep her from actually getting on a plane. Still, she was having fun practicing her "I'm an American" spiel." And Chavez and Marcos setting her up for a little jihad welcome was typical of the non PC humor of this novela. Oh my.

Thanks so much for these recaps. I think the old guy who came to the beauty parlor is Ramiro's (equally henpecked) father-in-law, isn't he?

Great recap, JudyB! Your vocabulary list is wonderful. I had a very hard time trying to keep up with last night's episode - a lot of fast talking.

The writers on this show come up with some interesting ideas, e.g. sending Rubi to Iraq. However, I wish they had come up with something different than the ol' faked pregnancy/whose your daddy story line.

Mil in NC

"She zips up her uniform, packs those puppies in, and adios Rubi". What a funny line. I wonder how Rubi's "excellent adventure " will turn out as well. So far she has always managed to land on her feet so I don't think this will be any different.

You certainly have picked up on the "not always PC" attitude of this show. It certainly is cringe worthy at times, but so funny.

Bathos, you are right about our "Shaggy old guy". It is Ramiro's father-inlaw. He has never been one of my favorite characters. Glad they don't give him to much time. Sure hope Ovi cut that hair.

Marcos and Chavez just can't seem to catch a break lately. Those two are the best villians ever in a TN.

Judy, thanks so much for the great recap. You have taken another
"mission impossible" and turned it
into another "mission accomplished." Your recaps are always a great read!!!

Good morning Bathos (interesting moniker), Pata and Mil in NC.

Mil, let me agree with you...Lordy the dialogue was FAST last night. I couldn't figure out if my typing had slowed or if they were going at the speed of light. I think it was the latter.

Ah, so that disgusting old man was Ramiro's father-in-law. Thanks for that clue, Bathos. As you know, I'm a newcomer to this show. Still finding my feet.

Well, now we know why Ramiro's mother-in-law is such a pill.

The non PC aspects of this are cringe-worthy. Somewhat like our Talk Radio where the most egregious opinions are spouted. But at least Dinero is funny, as you noted, Pata.

It's a fabulous sunny day in Ohio. Hope the rest of you, far and wide, are having a good day. Although I bitch and moan about these double recaps, staying up till past midnight and then getting up at a quarter till 6 is agreeing with me. I always feel super-charged with energy when I teach class.

Great recap Judy. You are the gold standard. I was also proud of Jorge taking a stand with Rubi. As fun as she might be and as pleasant as she is to look at, she was clearly over-reaching in her power grab and Jorge sadly had to act wisely and firmly in sending her packing. He could give lessons to most of the younger TN protagonists who are sorely lacking in good judgment and assertiveness the majority of the time. I thought he was dementia. I loved Rubi's exit. She zipped her top up much like a salesman snapping his sample case shut. Classy.

Surely Rubi is not so dumb and naive as she appeared last night. I was impressed Friday with her cunning. I guess keeping abreast of current events is not her strong suit. I thought that she was stringing Marco and Chavez along and am still not sure that she wasn't. In any case, I hope she doesn't stay away too long.

Happily we got to see plenty of Vicky last night. I love how she doesn't hesitate in using all her resources, meaning her craziness and those goofy yet potentially dangerous brothers. Poor Jaime.

Carlos

O Lord, why didn't I think of that line?! "Zipped up her top much like a salesman snapping shut his sample case". That one will stay with me.

What impressed me most about Jorge's dismissal of our toothsome wench was his calm. He thanked her, reiterated all she had done for him, but concluded...I don't need you anymore. I need ME. And peace and harmony with the family.

Clear, concise, non-blaming but firm. A triumph of maturity. Alas, his memory still sucks. But you can't have everything. He's cute, he loves and honors his wife. He's still got enough juice to appreciate a curvaceous babe, but enough sense to know when enough is enough.

My ideal man!

Thank you for the fun and descriptive recap - and the vocabulary is great!

Carlos, I too, thought Rubi was stringing Chavez and Marco along. She has shown herself to be astute, so that was surprising if she was buying their story. Maybe Quintana will somehow step in and stop her from going, since the apparently are friends.

Yes alot of VVV but somehow she wasn't so bad last night. She was on Christina last night and it was nice to see her as a real person instead of the crazy VVV.

Rafa was back to being more nervous it seemed to me, and Jaime was so nervous it was painful to watch! Loved the scene with the Queen (whose name I can't remember right now) and Rafa and Ale. She doesn't necessarily seem to mind that they have something going on. She almost seemed to be encouraging them. Wonderful description of it, Judy.

Thanks for the recap Judy. Only one more 2 hour recap for you. The puppies are packed and on the way to Iraq. Rubi surprised me with the large part they gave her and now getting rid of her that easily?
You definitely can cut some stuff out: "You've heard it all before. Let's move on." Yep, that was Ramiro's father-in-law. You could say, "now we know why Ramiro's mother-in-law is such a pill." or perhaps, "so that's why he is the way he is. " :)

Liked how Marino tore up the paper with the clients on it and Ramirez was like, hey, it still works for me. He grabbed that right away.

At least Marco knows his limitations, "As he points out" we're swindlers, not killers"."

Carlos, Good ones.. "I guess keeping abreast of current events is not her strong suit."
"zipped her top up much like a salesman snapping his sample case shut"

I wonder if we will get any Vicky/Rafa singing together. Saw Vicky singing on Cristina last night.

Ivy, that's what I thought about Rafa as well, getting more nervous again. It started at the party where he met Marian Celeste. Up to then, he seemed to be acting more mature and business like. All of sudden he was at the party and didn't seem to have a clue how to act and it has continued.

Thanks for another great recap, Judy, along with the generous helping of vocab.

In a way, maybe it's not so bad they're having two episodes a night, as the pace is a bit slow, and if it were one per night, we might be complaining. It's not easy for the recappers, though, and we all appreciate the extra time you've all donated to this worthy cause.

So Pepeto may try to put the moves on Rosaura? Here's a bit of trivia. The actress playing Rosaura was Miss Spain 1980. Yes, 30 years ago, and she's still looking very nice. She does appear to have lost (or hidden) her Spanish accent.

Wow. Miss Spain 1980...so late 40's for sure. Well, she doesn't have the juicy heft of Claudia, but she is holding up well.

Ivy,Jeff....thanks for bringing up Rafa's nervousness. It was getting on my OWN nerves last night. Hope it doesn't continue. Jaime's fluttering and stutterings are about all I can handle per episode. I just want to give our little lawyer dude a big loving spoonful of testosterone and have him man up a bit more. Not in the abusive Marino style....but jeez! Little Julieta will be leading him around by the nose if he doesn't develop some....well...you know....

By the way, Hombre and Carlos....Kris put up a Gancho line yesterday. Check in. And Hombre, could you do next week? Thanks.

Whoops...meant to include Jeff and Güera too....and any Ganchoites who may be unaccounted for....

ITA on Jaime! I loved his Saturday Night Fever persona, wish he had more of that going on.

Judy, fantastic recap, as always. Thank you so much.

I stayed up and watched Christina's show yesterday. Unlike you Judy the staying up just drains the juices out of me. However I was just too curious about Rosaura and Vicky. I didn't care for Vicky's singing, but I found funny that Christina kept calling her pajarita. This part is so characteristic ans she is so damn good at it that I'm afraid it will keep haunting her for the rest of her career.

Also, since Melinama can't recap today I can try to put whatever I can together, however I would ask one of the regular recapers to post a title, and perhaps copy and paste the recap from the comment section into the main part.

Thank you.

Judy, what an entertaining recap. I haven't managed to watch this show lately but I feel like I've seen it with your fun retelling. And so much vocabulary, too!

Hmmm, is she or isn't she? I'm going to guess that Vicky really does have a little birdie in the nest. Or maybe I'm just hoping because I hate faked pregnancy storylines.

I'm going to have to tune in to see if I can catch Jaime's smooth new persona.

Julia...alas, Jaime's smooth new persona was just in a dream. But it was a definite improvement over his old persona.

Maria, my copy and paste skills are questionable. But I can try and do it. And will post a title, and tag it for you. You're just a trooper to do this. And the reason staying up late drains you is because you already have two FULL-TIME JOBS. One at your workplace, the other caring for your family. Back when my children were younger, I was always drained and exhausted. And last summer when I took care of my grandchildren for a week while the parents frolicked in Bermuda, I aged 10 years!

Ivy, if this telenovela were still being filmed, you and I could lobby for Jaime's Saturday Night Life gig to return. He's much better-looking that way. Sure.... a bit of a two-timing sleaze, but we can work with that.

Oh and Julie, bite your tongue! Fake pregnancy storylines are awful, but real pregnancy would be worse. Because Rafa and VickyVickyVicky haven't gotten together in a long time (maybe never...did we see this in earlier episodes?). So in that case, the baby bird would be Jaime's and that's a disaster. And we certainly don't want Vicky hit by a car like Blanca in Mi Pecado (or do we?)

Oh, okay, Judy. How about a fake pregnancy in which the lie is quickly found out and doesn't result in any bad marriages? Mostly what I get tired of is the good men falling for these shenanigans so idiotically.

As far as I remember we never saw Vicky and Rafa having cositas, her brothers would get in the way whenever VVV tried to be alone with him. I doubt that has ever happened. There also was a scene in which she decided to either become pregnant or fake it quite awhile back. ITA on these good men falling for it, or in Jaime's and Rafa's cases, being so intimidated by VVV and family.

Ah, well then, that's a different story. Alas, I'm sure there's going to be a lot of falling for stupid shenanigans in this one, as in all other telenovelas. See it as our karma for being impatient with goofy men in a previous life.

Well, have to say, Ivy, I would totally be intimidated by that family. Dad is somewhat reasonable. Boys are BSC and armed with big knives. Vicky is certifiable and probably capable of eviscerating Alejandra if the timing was right. Makes you wonder about the mental health of dear old departed Mama, doesn't it? There has to be a strong loco-violenta gene in that family some place.

Judy, it may actually do a bit of good if Vicky got hit by a car, hell a bus. It might chill her out some, maybe even make her lose her memory and not want Rafa anymore. Yeah, I know, wishful thinking.
I was cringing last night when that old grungy dude was touching and hugging on the beauty of the beauty parlor.
I don't think that we have seen the last of Rubi either, though she is NOT my favorit, she could actually bring some interesting plots to the show.
Marco and Chavez are funny, but it is one of the reasons that they never get anything right or is it the other way around, lol.
I am ready for Ale to find out at leat one thing that Marco has done to her family so that she can start distancing herself from him, but looks like that may be a while.
Anyone know how long this novela lasts? I love it, but sometimes you just want to get on with it already.

Judy, LOL to both above!! You're right that they are intimidating, but still, I get so frustrated when Rafa and Jaime don't stand up to VVV. I suspect the hermanos are just bullies who will back down if really confronted - the way they towed the line when Don Gaston got on their cases was pretty funny. I don't know about VVV, though, she is scary, not sure what she would do!

Judy thanks for the recap. I wasn't able to catch the episode so I am extra appreciative of it and the vocab/dichos. My favorite quote that seems very appropriate to the character was "hot to trot, naco-loving Marian Celeste."

Also loved your assessment of Jorge's firing of Rubi. Yes, that's an ideal guy.

Hi Kat. I think we're in for a VERY LONG HAUL. Evidently the show was so popular in Mexico that it went through an extension (possibly we're in one now) so Patience will be a major requirement. Someone else can probably tell you exactly how many episodes there are. It's a Big Number.

And I agree...the old dude was just repulsive cozying up to Ovi. Looked like he could give anybody cooties....or worse.
* * *
Ivy, by the way, thanks for confirming that Rafa and Vicky haven't had any "cositas". I was hoping that they hadn't.
* * *

Hi Karen, Glad you stopped by. The character of Marian Celeste is intriguing. This actress played the mistress of our phone-hurling Sergio Sendel in Destilando Amor. I hope she sticks around a little while. A modern woman. Captain of industry, ready to indulge her hot to trot naco lovin' instincts.... What's not to like? Sort of an "Aimée" but with an actual business sense.

Judy, I will definitely put up a heading for Gancho next Monday.

Kat in Ala., I think there are 230 total episodes. We're about half way through, maybe a little less than that. The show ran for a full year in Mexico, and for us, it'll be a little less since we've had these double episodes.

But we should try to enjoy it as much as we can. Gancho had 220 episodes, and somehow the last section went too fast.

Ivy and Judy, I not so sure Vicky and Rafa did not have cositas. I remember a scene when Vicky got all dressed in black and bumped into Rafa on the street and she said "we are not making love any more como antes". Rafa said that his head is elsewhere or something like that. That same day she booked the hotel room and assaulted Jamie. So maybe they went to a hotel room to avoid the crazy brothers.

I was relieved to see that Marco draws the line at murder but a little disappointed that Chavez is more pragmatic and open-minded. Something tells me that if Rubi does get to Iraq, she'll end up being a big hit there. I suspect that she just might meet up with an oil sheik. She's very much a people person.

Carlos

Yeah, after I thought about it I realized they could well have had cositas! VVV could have arranged it the way she did when she ended up with Jaime. But we never saw it happen as part of the show.

Thanks Hombre. I knew you'd have the facts.

Some of the recappers list the chapter no. in their recaps so I know we're over a hundred now. Guess we'll have to settle in and meditate away the impatience.

If they'd just "salt" the episodes once in a while with a really romantic get-together, I could deal. But endless misunderstandings and rejections drive me up the wall.

Judy: What a marvelous recap! I'm amazed at the work of the Dinero team, you are all working double and doing a wonderful job.

It took me a while to catch up on the Doña Acadia/Queen Elizabeth II comparison when she appeared but you all got it right away, duh the dogs! Nice to see Carmen Salinas playing against type.

Hombre: The actress playing Rosaura, Frances Ondiviela, is from the Canary Islands. The accent there is much more simmilar to the one from Venezuela than the one from Spain. They don't use the "th" sound for the C and the Z and they change the last "s" for an "h" sound. I'd think it'd be much easier for her to lose her accent than from someone from the Iberic Penninsula but she has also been living and working in México since the late 80's.

Another fun fact: the actress playing Maria Celeste, Joanna Benedek, is from Rumania. She moved to Venezuela when she was 18 and a few years later she came to México. Both her and Frances acquired the Mexican citizenship years ago.

Jarocha

Wow Jarocha. Interesting stuff there. I have noticed many of the stars in these telenovelas have foreign sounding names. Either their parents emigrated to Mexico, or they did at some point in life. Canary Islands, eh? And Rumainia. Interesting.

I do like the character Carmen Salinas is playing. What is her usual role? I can almost picture her turning both Ale and Rafa over her knee and giving them a good spanking. Now straighten up you two! And get it right!

Judy- Another fabulous recap my dear. I also loved Friday's recap, but have been away at a wedding up till yesterday afternoon and did not get to comment.

Jarocha- Thanks as well for providing your inside info. These actors are really impressive with their abilities to be multi-talented (singers and actors) and take on different accents.

I think that prior to meeting each other, both Rafa and Ale did "cositas" with their significant others. There are no virgins in this, except Jamie (mystery if he still is after VVV) and Julieta. Even sweet Susanita (who would surely be a virgin in other novelas) was well experienced in the art of tantric sex. :)

Ivy- there was an episode way in the beginning when the Brothers Grimm beat up some guys pretty badly for coming on to their sister as she was walking down the street. I remember being very impressed with their fighting skills, so they can definitely back up their threats.

That's right, Vivi, I remember that now that you mention it. I'm not sure it would be the same with someone they know and that their Dad knows, too, seems different than a couple of strangers, but maybe not.

Vivi, good to have you back. And thanks for the clarification on our folks' sexual status. Yes, Rafa and Ale seem a little old to be virgins (don't tell my youngest child I said that). But I too was surprised by Susana's expertise in Tantric Sex and her willingness to hook up with Dandy once the horoscopes said they were sexually compatible. She still exudes a sweet innocence. But I guess that's due to her chronic state of higher consciousness.

Judy: Carmen usually plays ladys from humble origins, either poor and sweet or naca types like Nieves on Gancho.

Yes, there are several actors from other nations working in México. Mostly from Central and South America but some from Europe too. Inmigration has elevated in the last twenty years. One of the ladies that work in the bank I go to is Russian, one of my coworkers is Ukranian, my cousin is married to a Peruvian, there are ALOT of Chinese inmigrants in Veracruz now (and in Mexico City and Guadalajara too) and also alot of Spanish (besides the Spanish heritage from our days as a Spanish Colony, thousands of Spanish came to México in the late 30's due to the Spanish revolution and many are also coming now).

There's alot of inmigration from the US too. San Miguel de Allende is called now "Gringo Landia" because a big part of the population is from the US and speaks english and you'll see many establishments with english signs or if you go to a good restaurant the menus will be in english :).

Vivi: I agree with you about Vicky and Rafa doing "cositas", heh. This is like Gancho, where virginity loss to the main guy wasn't made to be a big deal, so I don't see how the galán could be celibate. Plus, I distinctly remember a scene with Vicky and Rafa talking about having been together in the back of his car at the begining of the novela.

Jarocha

Thanks for that information about immigration and Mexico, Jarocha. I hate to sound like a broken record, but you ARE a great resource.

I was wondering if Carmen Salinas was a Nieves type. Even in this one, didn't she rise from humble origins? And accumulated money through shrewd investments? Thought I got that impression. She mentioned having been a school teacher at one point during her Rafa/Ale lecture.

Since you brought up Gancho, Ale's dress at the cocktail party was the same one that Monita wore to a big party at some point in Gancho. I remember it distinctly (usually I don't) because of the unusual gold color and the central panel of the dress. Same one? They look about the same size. I noticed they recycled furniture from Cuidado to Sortilegio. All good, as far as I concerned.

I don't doubt it's the same dress Judy. There's not the same budget for novelas these days as it was before. You can tell especially with the novelas de época. Even Pasión and Alborada had a much more limited budged than one would think.

Jarocha

Judy, I noticed the dress too and meant to say something about the other day, but forgot. Lol! I thought the dress looked better on Ale than it did Monita. Maybe because of Ale's golden skin and hair coloring.

I agree Vivi. I didn't think Monita looked especially good in the dress. She's terrific in red. Ale, on the other hand, absolutly glows in anything gold or tangerine (like the Playa romance dress).

Maria and Carlos...I missed your comments for some reason. Another confirmation for "cositas" and Carlos...oh yes, Rubi is definitely a people person. I must say the enthusiasm with which she approaches her "career" is....well...heartwarming. She would make a fine collection to a sheik's harem and would soon be ruling the roost. Or trying to.

By the way, Vivi...if I mess up the "copy and paste" of Maria's recap tonight, can you pinch hit in posting it?

My "cut and paste" technique is very much like my leaf blowing technique. I manage to get the leaves going backwards, sideways, in my eyes, and every which way but the right way. And my blocking out of what I want to copy often goes awry as well. But I'm gonna try, dadgummit!

Sure Judy. Good luck and let me know if you need help.

Thanks Vivi. Knew I could count on you to be my backup plan.

I said several comments above that after thinking about it, they probably have had "cositas," we just haven't seen that happen in the show. But it has been implied that it happened in the past.

Ivy

Okay Ivy. Sounds like a reasonable assumption we can make. No doubt that's part of what makes Vicky so determined to seal the deal.
