El Clon #60, May 11. A new year, a new etapa.

Hola, queridos! This recap includes quite a bit more detail than usual, and that’s because the episode contained much, much more material of significance than usual.

Marisa finds out that Lucas went to Morocco, and she throws the mother of all tantrums. “I don’t want your pity!” Gee, then why does she sing the Gloom, Despair, and Agony on Me song daily? The most interesting part of the scene is the competition against Leo for the title, “The Person Most Self-Centered, and Most Oblivious to Everyone Else’s Needs.” She blames Leo for bringing her husband’s amante into the house. She rants about all the sacrifices she’s made, and how no one accepts her. She says that all anyone cares about is Natalia, and that’s why they forced her to stay in this miserable marriage. Leo might lose the Self Centered trophy, but he certainly wins the Biggest Load of Bull award, claiming “I never manipulated anybody.” She rants on, saying that she was forced to stay because Natalia is abnormal and emotionally unstable. Natalia is listening to all this from the stairs. Alej comes in and hears the continuing rant.

Finally Natalia bolts and Alej chases after her. In the rain. She is distraught and steps in front of a car. Because she wanted to? Because she didn’t care about anything? We don’t know. Alej reaches her just in time, hurls himself at her, and they both land in the bushes, Alej on top of Naty, nose to nose. The intense emotions of the past several minutes, the rejection by her mother, the guilt for making her parents miserable, the near-death experience, and Alej’s panic of nearly losing her, .. Those emotions all get transferred into a very intense kiss. Suddenly Alej pulls away and apologizes. He fears he has taken advantage of her vulnerability. But Naty rolls over on top of him and makes it obvious that she is perfectly happy to be taken advantage of. They walk down the street, splash in the puddles, and impulsively grab more kisses and hugs like two lovebirds.

Leo is instantly transported to Cristina’s doorstep. He steps in the door, looking like he’s lost his moorings, and starts seriously kissing her. That is, until Cristina’s date, Augustin, comes out of the other room. Cristina introduces them and both men try to excuse themselves but Cris won’t permit it. One thing about Cris, nobody will ever call her a doormat! Here’s my best guess at the gist of Cristina’s monologue. “I met Augustin after Christmas (e.g. within the past week), and we got together again. That’s why I can’t understand why certain men would spend a night full of delicious passion, and then the next day, after thirty phone calls, wanting to say how happy he made a woman, and she could make him very happy too, but somehow he’s always busy in meetings. And after that, I thought, what would I do so that this caveman (cavernicola) doesn’t only look for me in the mattress (colchon)? Then Augustine showed up, so nice, so wonderful, to put my life in order, but now everything goes back to the same shambles (despelote) as always.” She explains to Augustin that she adores him, but she wants to be honest with him. He protests that they just met and she doesn’t owe him an explanation. But she explains that she doesn’t want him to think that she was just taking advantage of him like certain people usually (soler) do! She explains that she loves Leo even though he’s afraid to be happy, even though he’s a macho caveman. Augie says it’s a shame that he arrived too late. Though if he would have met her before her fixation on Leo, he would’ve been in 5th grade. Augie leaves and Leo tries to leave too. Not so fast, Buster! She asks, “Did you come to find me or to ruin (estropear) my night?” He still wants to leave, but she insists that she knows how to give him what he came for. They end up horizontal in short order.

At the dance club, Dora is waiting for an answer. Ozzie says Dora’s question caught him off guard. She says she won’t put a gun to his heard; goodbye. Well, when you put it that way.. Ozzie says, “You’re the only woman I’ve ever loved,” gets down on one knee, and asks her to marry him. She accepts. Dora has a face of sheer happiness, and Ozzie has a face of sheer wonder.

Marisa cries over her wedding picture. She tells Rosa that she can’t stand it for another moment. She can’t understand why that woman who is so far beneath her could capture her husband’s heart in such a profound way, that even after 20 years he still holds her in his heart. She doesn’t want to face the idea that her husband has spent the past 20 years dreaming of someone else. Rosa wants to bring her a tranquilizer, but Marisa has in mind a more active method of improving her mood. She calls David and gets his voice mail, so she pulls out a photo album of other men available for a price. She orders a two-fer, Ricardo and Manuel. Cost is no object when you charge it to your husband’s credit card.

Alej and Naty are in an antro. He notices that she’s wearing the bracelet he gave her. She tells him that she’s surrounded by people but she feels alone because nobody understands her. She tells him about her guilt for making her parents stay together and miserable. She also feels guilty because she has been a disappointment to everyone. Alej won’t let her continue because he sees her as beautiful, intelligent, and good, and he’s going to teach her to like herself. He doesn’t realize that when your mother rejects you, only a miracle can fill that void. Then again, this is telenovelaland, and the laws of human nature are different here. She tells him he’s the first person she’s told about all this. He says, “I’m going to take good care of you. I want to see my novia very, very happy.” She’s shocked by the word novia, and he backpedals, worried that she doesn’t want to be his novia. She answers his doubts with a big kiss.

Dora comes home and tells Estela that she has news. She brings in Osvaldo and tells mama that they’re getting married. Dora says that she thought she could raise Daniel alone but she was wrong, and she quite nearly lost him entirely. So she changed course and went looking for Ozzie. Dora says that Ozzie will accept paternity of Daniel. Estela is delighted. Gee, I wonder how twenty-year-old Daniel will feel about this.

Jade complains to Zoraida about being trapped in the house. She doesn’t even know how long Lucas will stay, so she could be trapped for a long time. Zoraida wisely points out that she couldn’t resist him in the US and she wouldn’t be able to here, either. Lucas calls the house but Zoraida talks as if it’s one of Abdul’s associates.

At the gym, Alej gushes to Pablo about how wonderful Natalia is.

Luisa tells Albi that this foolish argument has gone on for too long. They kiss and make up, and they go out on the town, leaving Alicia alone in the house.

Metiche Ramon tells Mohamed that he heard Nariza is going to marry Osvaldo. Mo says that’s impossible because he hasn’t given his permission. Mo decides that Nariza will leave for Morocco first thing tomorrow. He rushes home and accuses the Naz of planning this behind their back. She denies, but he says Osvaldo is telling everyone he’s getting married. Nariza is sure this means Ozzie will marry her, and she can’t contain her joy. Her smile expands to its full circumference, big enough to eat Cincinnati. The Naz faints, and Bubba Mo starts telling her unconscious body all the things that must be done first. Latifa tells him to ease up, Mo shoots her down, and the two of them walk out arguing while Nariza lies passed out on the floor. Funny stuff! When Mo is gone the Naz magically recovers.

At the clinic, Julio and Escobar tell Albi that the test results came back, and it’s certain, someone switched the results. They’re unwilling to say it, but they believe Luisa is mistaken. They suggest she take a vacation, and that they have Alicia fill in while she’s gone.

Enrique pays a visit to Lucas. Lucas complains about his father running his life. Riq tells him that everyone is responsible for how he lives his own life. Lucas tells him that’s just the point, and now he’s taking control of his own life.

Said goes to see Leo at his office. He’s looking for Lucas, and Roberto says he’s in Chicago o n business. Said says he’ll wait for his return.

Chismoso Ramon is at TODCIM and sees Ozzie and Dora together. He remembers seeing Ozzie with Karla too. He’s got hot poop and he can’t wait to tell somebody. At Gloria’s party, Karla and her mom show up and Gloria is none too happy to see them. Alej calls Naty to ask her to come to the party too, but she can’t. Ramon tells Karla that Alej’s new novia is a millionaire and Karla claims she doesn’t care. Pablo tells Alej that his ex-girlfriend is flirting with him (Pablo), and Alej tells him Adalante! But Alej warns him, he doesn’t want to listen to Pablo complaining when he discovers Karla’s claws.

Ramon’s having a busy night. Or shall we say, “a busy-body” night? He tells Prince Amin that he saw Osvaldo with his novia Dora, and also with Karla. Inside, Mo forbids the Naz from stepping foot outside the house. She says no one can stop her; the slave has proclaimed her freedom. Amin, CIT (chismoso in training), rushes in to announce that Ozzie has a novia. Actually a few. Dora, Karla and Lariat. (Nariza). She faints again.

Next we get a montage of everyone’s New Year’s celebrations: the party at Gloria’s, the party at Cristina’s bar, Andrea’s family celebrating alone at home, Clara’s family (with Fernando on the phone and Escobar gazing at the TV) joined by Carolina, Leo’s family at home, and Albi with Luisa, Alicia, and Julio. Julio and Alicia spend some extra time on the New Year’s hug. The montage burns up several minutes of the show which is good - it’s easy to recap! At Ali’s house, they don’t observe the Western new year, but they have a belly dancer to celebrate their return to Morocco. And Lucas sits alone in his hotel room, pining for Jade. He’s been pining for twenty years. I’m not sure pines live that long!

Jade informs Zoraida that she and Jadiyah are going to the market alone. She leaves before Zee can stop her. Can anyone guess who she sees in the market? And can anyone guess where they agree to meet, in tomorrow’s previews?

One more observation. Jade should wear her veil differently. She already has a long, narrow face. My husband calls her “hatchet face.” But in that veil at the end of the episode, I swear, her face has the proportions of a telephone pole!

In review, what are the develpments in tonight's show?
1. Alej and Natalia
2. Dora and Ozvaldo
3. Ozzie and Lariat - not.
4. Leo and Cristina
5. Lucas steps away from Leo's control. That was actually Monday, but close enough.
6. Marisa finds out Lucas left for Morocco and everyone hears her rant.

I could include the meeting between Lucas and Jade, but that's really nothing new.

¡Qué suerte tan buena la tuya, amiga!
Great recap of an episode where things actually happened!

I love, “The Person Most Self-Centered, and Most Oblivious to Everyone Else’s Needs.” It's a fight to the death between Leo and Marisa for that one.

I loved the scene with Cristina, Leo and Augustin. Did you notice Cristina tottering on those high heels she was wearing! I think Cristina is my favorite character. You got her monologue perfectly.

What was with Marisa crying alone and therefore not trying to put something over on someone? Did/does she really feel something for Lucas? First, we've heard of it. Did you notice that her depression was so bad that she needed two guys to help her out.

Loved the scenes with the ecstatic and despondent Naz.

Naty and Alej were very cute. One hopes so much that they will not have problems in their relationship while knowing that they will.

Here's hoping the 'new etapa' continues tonight.

Thanks very much, Paula, for the excellent recap of an eventful episode (¡por fin!). Your recap made me realize how much of the dialogue I didn't get.

I think Marisa and Leo are clearly tied for first prize in "The Person Most Self-Centered, and Most Oblivious to Everyone Else's Needs" contest. And neither of them sees that Natalia is taking it all in, nor do they notice when she runs from the house.

I loved your comment about Marisa being so depressed she needed a two-fer. I wasn't sure at first what that album she pulled out was. Was I imagining things, or did one of the photos look like Lucas?

I was watching ¿Dónde Está Elisa? and there was a coming attractions trailer for El Clon that was much more action-packed than the one following that show. Looks like this is going to be an exciting week. It also looks as if the show may get pushed back to 7:30 again on Thursday for more fútbol (which will probably also do in ¿Dónde? again).

It was I who didn't notice that Paula did notice that Marisa needed a two-fer for her depression ;-(.

I also thought one of the guys in the stud-muffin catalog looked like Lucas and wondered if it was the clone. Wouldn't that be a hoot!

It seemed a little bizarre that Osvaldo would change so much overnight but we could attribute it to a sober assessment about what is important after his disastrous dalliance with Karla. At least poor Dora is getting a few hours of happiness. She is really the most innocent victim here. But I'm sure there will be problems soon enough and they start with a K.

Loved your recap, Paula. LOL at Jade's hatchet face. She really does have a long face.

I must have dozed off on the part of showing everyone's New Year's eve. I don't remember it.

But I loved Nati and Alej. I hope we see more of them. I'm getting bored with Lucas and Jade.

Paula, Thanks for the rich detail in today's great recap.

Jean, I don't think Marisa's crying because she feels something for Lucas. She's crying because she's been humiliated. Her puffed-up ego has been deflated.

That album was an amazing detail, wasn't it? I noticed a Lucas LookAlike too. Could it really be the clone? Maybe. Daniel has to be earning a living somehow and, as we know, he's bound to be a nice-looking guy with not a lot of education.

So Marisa has this big cardboard box up in the closet, not hidden, and right on top is her Book of Boytoys. And she puts their charges on Lucas's credit cards. How is it that no one has noticed? I think because no one cares enough to be curious about her private life. She really is a cipher in that family, broccoli rubberband dresses notwithstanding. What Lucas feels for her is the opposite of "amor" -- "desamor" or indifference. That's what she's crying about, I think.

Speaking of tears, I was thinking how stylized and fake they were (surely a directorial decision), like everything else about Marisa.

Jean and NovelaMaven, your idea about the Lucas lookalike in Marisa's boytoy album being the clone is intriguing but I think unlikely even for a TN. After all, wouldn't Marisa be freaked out by someone who looks EXACTLY like Lucas looked 20 years earlier? Would she really include him among her boytoys?

Well, I'm sure Marisa's card charges don't show up on the monthly statement as "Boy Toys 2Go." It probably looks like the name of a clothing store, like "Bon Bon Boutique" or some such.

jajaja, Juanita, of course you're right. It's just that we are in TN land and the more absurd the merrier! (But did you notice a few episodes back that when Dave asked "Cindy" what fantasy she was in the mood for, she said: "I'll be Marisa, you can be Lucas"!!!)

Paula -- maybe just "BoyToys 'R Us"... Still, nobody pays any attention to what she does (except of course, her daughter, alas.)

Great recap, Paula. Especially liked Nariza's smile being big enough to eat Cincinnati!

Rats! The curse of being on Pacific Time. I was all prepared to comment that it was odd Lucas didn't notice the charges from Studs-R-Us on his credit card statements. But got beaten to the punch by others in different time zones. Couldn't resist typing it anyway.

Probably the ship has sailed, but it would have been fun to have a running count of the times Lucas and Jade meet, usually unexpectedly, and we get to see their stunned faces. They may just insert that same scene over and over again. I'm bored with it also.

Yes, indeedy, Natalia and Alejandro were so cute together. I'm over the fact that he seems a bit old for her. If the 40 or 50 something galans on Univision can make whoopie with 20 somethings in novelas, why can't Telemundo do something similar, just downgraded a decade or so.

That was simply ghastly Marisa and Leo going toe to toe about Natalia without even looking around to see if the poor kid is overhearing this.

Even if that were the clone in the boy-toy catalog, he's unavailable at the moment because he's in Houston.

Thank you, all. You can probably tell that I enjoyed the cap quite a bit. When the show bores me, my writing is boring. When the show livens up, so does my writing.

Novelera, the mouth that ate Cinci was a nod to an old Dr. Demento song, The Cockroach That Ate Cincinnati.

I looked at the scene of Marisa and the boy-toy catalog again and the guy bears a superficial resemblance to Lucas/clone but I don't think it was him. Anyway, he was one of the studs that Marisa picked and we saw her the next day and it didn't appear that anything untoward, like meeting a younger version of her husband, had happened.

Paula, a stellar recap, thanks.

The Naz is still my favorite - what a drama queen.

Marissa must have really low self-esteem if she has to buy affection. She is the one that wanted this marriage and had Naty to cement the deal. The anvils cannot fall soon enough for her.

Leo is also on my list today. I loved Christina in her high heels making Leo heel. Go girl go!

For some strange reason Tele is showing the episode at 1:00 in afternoon (CST) as well as the 6:00 in the evening time slot. I don't know if this is permanent or to make up for the futbol games in the evenings. Maybe it will boost their ratings.

Rosemary

Rosemary- Telemundo has not achieved the weirdness in scheduling that seems to have afflicted Univision but some strange things have happened.

They announced and it was on my TiVo schedule that starting Monday, 10th, Telemundo was going to rebroadcast Dona Barbara for 2 hours/day to replace Zorro. I set up my TiVo to record it but when I looked at what was there, it was a Brazilian novela for the first hour and then a rerun of Clon. Then Dona Barbara disappeared from the Telemundo schedule and now they are repeating El Clon at 2pm EDT. I have no idea what happened or why.

Jean:
My friend Sue sent me an ALERT! ALERT! email that Doña Bárbara was going to be on at 2:00 starting Monday. Monday is my day off so I looked at my DirecTV on-screen guide around 1:30, and it said something called La Favorita was on. I then did a search of the title and nothing at all showed up.

Susanlynn posted on the comments for the upcoming Soy tu Dueña that she thought DB was going to follow Amor Real on Telefutura. That seems odd, since Telefutura is part of the Televisa and/or Univision family, and it would seem odd they'd run a Telemundo novela.

I would like to see at least a few of the first episodes of DB, but it was on so recently that I don't wish to see the whole thing.

I'm totally enjoying re-watching Amor Real. I think it's even better the second time. But I don't know about previews of what's coming after AR because I've got about 40 episodes sitting on my DVR and I occasionally watch two of them. So I'm way behind.

On TNW they say that DB was supposed to run on Telemundo, 7 PM, starting 5/17. But then they changed it to Corazon Abierto, the Colombian one based on Grey's Anatomy. They're now showing previews for CA during Clon, so I guess that's pretty reliable.

Thanks for the recap, Paula. I haven't been able to catch this show much lately, but I did see Al kissing Nat...He is a very good kisser. Novelera```I got mixed up because I was watching Zorro on one channel and Amor Real on the other. DB was supposed to follow Zorro, and I was excited about that because I did not see the beginning. However, as others have mentionned, when I tune in, it's not on. Instead, they are showing La Favorita. I can't remember what follows Amor Real which ends soon. I am hoping that Alborada will be rerun somewhere sometime soon.

Thanks for clearing that up, Susanlynn. It sure is easy to get things mixed up when you watch two different networks.

PaulaH: Terrific recap and I really appreciate the added conversations, amiga! "The mother of all tantrums", "The Person Most Self-Centered, and Most Oblivious to Everyone Else’s Needs," "the Biggest Load of Bull award", "Dora has a face of sheer happiness, and Ozzie has a face of sheer wonder.
" were LOL funny and there are just too many more! Two thumbs and two big toes up! LOL!

I get a kick out of Escobar giving Albi marital advice, the pig!

ITA that Marisa is crying only because her "puffed-up ego has been deflated." I truly believed that she cares little for Nat other than it kept her herself tied to the Ferrer fortunes, something which I believe was initially one of the smart-ass reasons she mentioned to herself when she was thinking she'd hook onto Lucas and marry him. Didn't matter which twin, just that he was a Ferrer.
