Monday May 10, 2010 Livin' La Vida Gancho

Hi Gancholanders. For those of you who bonded in friendship over the long haul, we can still get together throughout the week on this keep-in-touch blog. So bring us up to date on what's happened since last we gathered 'round Carlos' wonderful gran finale recap. My highlight was seeing our son graduate from college this weekend. Since I had him later in life, and he graduated later than usual, a nice lady from church saw me and asked if I was there to watch my GRANDCHILD get his degree! Yikes. Another humbling experience. Botox anyone?
yours truly,
JudyB

Other than that (and I've been asked if my two youngest were my grandchildren before) I had a very nice weekend and a calm, quiet Mother's Day. Hope your weekend was great as well. But fill me in...

And by the way, the title is thanks to Jeff of MN.

Judy, congratulations! I'm sure the graduation was the culmination of a lot of hard work and effort. A special day for you and all of your family...

I had a quick weekend visit from hub who had to take a road job after being laid off from his previous job. We treated ourselves to dinner out and I enjoyed every minute and morsal. He misses watching these with me and I miss him being there. That's one of the many reasons I appreciate all of the recappers and commenters so much.

Emilia and Mike, are you watching anything currently?

Diana

Ah, dinner out! Beautiful words and sounds like it was great. Hopefully, one day soon, Peter will be able to stay home and watch with you again.

I didn't watch Gancho, but some of my favorite folks from MEPS posted here, so I liked your idea, Judy, of people catching up.

I had the very good idea of inviting my son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter and consuegra (who is wheelchair bound) for Mothers Day dinner in a restaurant of their choice. They were feeling an economic pinch at this time, so I was able to give us an outing. It was a rather pricey, special Mother's Day menu but SUCH an enjoyable dinner. The restaurant was near the San Francisco Bay Area called the Delta, and we had a window table with nearly a 360 degree view of water. I am so proud of my adult son who's been in a happy, successful marriage for so many years now.

Hi Judy and Diana,

Sounds as though you both had very enjoyable weekends. We did as well. We went out to eat at a new place in Tomball called Bootsie's. Good food, I felt obligated to try their chicken fried steak although their signature dish is shrimp and grits. Does that sound appealing? Maybe next time.

I can already tell that it'll take a while to get used to not having a recap to do on Mon. night when I get home.

Congratulations to your son, Judy, on his graduation, and as well to Emilia's and Mike's son on his wedding.

I got confirmation that the FCC received my recent complaint about the Univision CCs. Basically they sent me a printed copy of my complaint(in compliance with the Paperwork Reducion Act of 1995... huh?) saying that it looks complete and that they'll consider it (yeah sure) so gang, it looks as though we're on our way to reliable CCs.

I'm enjoying Hasta el Dinero... looking forward to your recap tonight Dr. Judy. It has some endearing characters (Vicki is rapidly becoming my favorite... lots of depth there) though not as engaging as those in Gancho.

I'm liking the name... thanks Jeff.

Carlos

Hi Novelera and Carlos. Novelera, your outing sounds wonderful, and even more wonderful is that your son is in a happy marriage. Seems to be getting harder and harder these days.

Carlos, shrimp and grits sounds divine. Please go back next week and have it....and then torture me with your description.

Vicky is your favorite? You DO go for the challenging ones, don't you? I prefer bouncy and uncomplicated. I'll take Rubi, hands down. (But not in my house, not around my menfolk)

Hi, all. Sounds as if there was a lot of fine eatin' goin' on this weekend. We took our son out to a restaurant for his birthday (he's 27), and had a nice meal. I also spent a while on a new song, namely Amarte a la Antigua, which is a song Pedro Fernández sings over on Dinero. I did it in both Spanish and English, and posted the links over there, but for anyone who missed it, here's the Spanish version, and here's the English version (my attempt at translation, while still trying to make it rhyme).

I'm watching Dinero, too, and my favorite is Susana, who is not only beautiful, but she can even put up with Ale as her boss, and really understands her.

Hello all. Judy, thanks for giving all of us who are struggling with Gancho withdrawal a place to meet.

We had a most wonderful weekend celebrating the marriage of our son. The bride was beautiful, calm, enchanting. The minister did a wonderful wedding. She has such a great sense of humor and truly appeared to enjoy performing the ceremony. She danced with Greg and with Mike at the reception and hugged Greg and Megan every chance she got.

All of my brothers were able to attend. We rarely manage to get the four of us together so that added to the fun. I'm not a dancer by any stretch of the imagination - my Cuban half is obviously my upper half. But I did cut a rug a time or two. Mike had a good time, dancing with all of the bridesmaids, the bride's mother, our friends, many many people. We slept SO well that night!!

We have the kids' dog for two weeks. He's a great dog and will quench and desire for a pet until we keep him again.

Mike's mom did well in rehab while we were gone. Mike has printed a lot of wedding photos and will take them to her in a little while.

I miss you guys and hope a lot of us check in here. We have company for a few days but hope to rejoin a telenovela ( already in progress.). Thank goodness for recappers!

Quench ANY desire for a pet. When will I learn to proofread?!

Hombre! I LOVE your versions of Amarte A La Antigua! I think you should sent the english version to the music company that recorded the spanish version, I think they would hire you to translate more songs, it's so hard sometimes to translate and keep the song beautiful and the meaning intact.

Jarocha

Emilia...sounds like the wedding was great fun...much love and affection, lotsa dancing. Works for me!

Jarocha...I agree. Hombre did a fabulous job of translating...keeping the "soul" of the song while managing to rhyme it in English.

Felicitaciones, Emilia! That sounds like quite a wedding, and I'm glad you and Mike had so much fun bailando.

Forgot...Carlos, glad you got an acknowledgement of your letter to Univision. Jeanne (Schoolmarm) has also written them. Hopefully there'll be good results. So far, I don't see a difference.

Ahoy all, thanks for posting this JudyB. I kept checking the site yesterday; I knew you weren't scheduled to post until today but I checked early just in case.

I'm glad to hear you all had good weekends. Emilia and Mike, so glad to hear you had a grand time at the wedding. Getting to doggie-sit is just the icing on the cake.

Diana, how nice that you got to spend some time with hub. It must be tough having him on the road. I guess we all do what we have to do these days.

Judy, congratulations on your son's graduation! That's very exciting news.

Novelera, I love the delta, it's such a beautiful area. I'm not familiar with any restaurants there so I will definitely have to keep my eyes open for the place with the spectacular view.

I have been super busy with boat stuff. We had a lovely practice sail out to the Farallon Islands Saturday. They are 27 miles offshore and are a marine sanctuary. It was a very pleasant upwind sail with flat seas (very unusual) so nobody got seasick. It took 5 hours to get out there and only 2.5 to get home because we were under spinnaker, so going "downhill", and the winds built into the mid-twenties so we had an exciting ride back under the Golden Gate. I was hoping to see whales out at the islands but no luck. We did see a lot of birds though.

I have been lurking at Caray Caray for the past week but am still not watching a TN regularly. Well, that's not entirely true; I'm watching Amor Real which finishes this week. As of next Monday I will be Telenovela-less so I guess I'd better decide which one to watch soon!

Wow, reading that paragraph about your sailing was so exciting Sylvia. You've got quite a life, amiga. I had a frantic sailing lesson once from a beau (we were sailing outside of Vienna, Austria). I just remember being very nervous trying to follow his instructions and not get brained doing it.

That would definitely be rule #1, don't get hit on the head by the boom!

So I get out of bed to take the dog out 'cause he was rattling his neck his chain. While I'm brushing my teeth, he jumps up on the bed and takes over my side. So who's smarter?

Cap'n Sylvia, Ma'am, may I inquire as to the Sharkbait Line's policy on stowaways? Thoroughly enjoyed reading about your sail out to the Farallons!

Mike, too funny. Smart dog. Hope Emilia enjoys his company "au lit". (Did she notice a difference?)

Emilia says you danced up a storm at the boda. Can you post some pics from the wedding?

Mike, the good ship Cinnabar encourages all manner of subversive behavior. Any stowaway who is discovered will immediately be put into service as the Snacktician.

Judy, good idea about the pics! This is the perfect place to post any and all incriminating data.

Hola All!

I'm happy to here everyone is doing well. Graduations and Marriages... Yay!

~But, oh, how I miss Un Gancho (insert tear here). I can still hear the song in my head. I'm not good at goodbye's so I'm happying there is a gathering post for me to peek in on every now and again.

I'm trying to watch the new novelas but they just don't live up to Un Gancho. I found myself feeling too embarrassed for the characters in Pecado to continue watching. Yikes! And I dislike Dinero b/c they were apart of the Un Gancho bump from 7pm to 3pm EST. And it just looks too goofy to me. I don't know... Maybe I'll give them another shot. Any suggestions?

Be well.
Rockz

My bad. I don't know why it posted twice. Must have done something wrong. Oh well. Sorry.
Rockz

Hi Rockz, Missed hearing from you! We haven't watched anything since Gancho, but I guess we are going to try Dinero. It's just that two hours a night seems a touch excessive. How do you manage to recap that much, Judy?

I don't know if Mike and I can post photos here - if we can he no doubt knows how, so I'll leave it to the expert. We'll try not to bore y'all with hundreds but will get one or two up soon.

Sylvia, watch what you say; You're liable to find Michael D. hiding, sort of, with a sixpack and some pretzels and a huge smile on his face!

Carlos, I forgot to mention that we love the May photo on your Bonnie Belle calendar. Assuming you're the proud papa?

And Judy, many large congratulations and hugs on the occasion of your son's graduation. Can't imagine you look like his grandmother. Some people have very poor eyesight!

Attention Medical Professionals. Many of us Caray fans are here to improve our Spanish. Finally a drama that might provide you health care professionals with some vocabulary relevant to your situation. A Corazón Abierto, a Colombian show based on Gray's Anatomy, starts Mon at 7pm on Telemundo. The writing of was supervised by Fernando Gaitán, the genius of the Feas, plus Dinero and Hija del Mariachi. Cast includes JAE of Betty la fea. See press release on TNW.

Paula, sounds lovely. But does it have its own McDreamy? That Colunga dude, perhaps?

Well, I hate Grey's Anatomy and endlessly mock my sister for both liking the show and for thinking that "McDreamy" dude is good-looking, but I bet I would like a Telemundo version better. If nothing else it would be fun to see whether they at least manage better medical care than most telenovelas (where people stand around yelling rather than calling for an ambulance, and people with potential back and neck injuries are always picked up and carried to bed).

Sounds like you had a great weekend Judy. Gracias for using the title.

Diana, glad your hubby was home and you had time together. You and Novelera had great weekends.

Carlos, where is Monday's Gancho recap? I was looking forward to see how many kids Mau and Moni had now. How Coni and Beto where doing. I guess you have dropped Coni for Vicky, so fickle. ;)

Hombre, when will we hear your rendition of Livin's La Vida Gancho? :)

Sounds like a fantastic wedding Mike and Emilia. And you even went home with the Best Dog.

Sylvia, never been sailing, sounds like fun. As far as Univision, you could pick either Mi Pecado or Hasta ... Dinero. I like both, but completely different. Dinero is fun, Mi Pecado is a good typical evil/good TN. Mi Pecado is on about number 45/110 caps and Dinero on 92/220.

I am also watching the last week of Tormenta, on right before Gancho in the afternoon. It has a Final this Friday. I want to see the bad guys go down. Some of the people still alive are supposed to die some interesting ways, so I want to see that happen.

Rockz, Dinero isn't too bad. It is fun. Nothing really bad, evil happening. Some people don't like that. It is lighter than Gancho. I don't think it has quite the cast as Gancho. In Gancho, I cared quite a bit about what would happen to most people. Not that way in Dinero, at least not yet.

Darn, only get Univision, not Telemundo. But, would watch too many shows if I got both or even more, like Telefutura,.

I'm joining the chorus of those REALLY MISSING Gancho. I need that lighthearted fun to counteract the effects of Pecado, which is just so intense.

Congratulations to the new graduates and newlyweds! Sounds like exciting things are happening everywhere.

Julia, not sure if you've had time to watch Tormenta. I missed a lot of it, but want to see the end. The Final is on Friday.

Great to read the discussion here and RockZ, I feel for you. I'm watching Dinero because they desperately needed a recapper for Monday nights (regular recappers were not only doing two hours on their night, but also fielding an extra night of double duty. Excruciating and tiring.

That being said, I'm warming to it. It's not Gancho and I have trouble with change. But it has its charm. You have to watch for a while before it hooks you.

I'm a total wuss and the emotional carnage in Mi Pecado is unnerving. On the other hand, there is Julian's manly chest (often on display) and Lucrecia's sweet charm. Am I superficial enough to watch something just to see a built guy step out of the shower in just a towel now and then? You bet baby. As long as the show is in Spanish and I'm still learning the lingo.

Mike, Corazon Abierto is Colombian so it won't have TBLMOE. But it will have Jorge Enrique Arbello (JAE) who was the star of the original Fea. He certainly doesn't have to sneak up on a glass of water.

And those of you who don't get Telemundo, they typically post full episodes onto their web site.

I suspect that it will depart from the standard TN profile. Should be interesting.

Jeff, I've been recording Tormenta but I haven't seen the last 7 or so episodes yet. I was in the Dominican Republic last week and now have an enormous DVR backlog, but I'm really looking forward to seeing those vile creeps get what they deserve! The more outlandish and gory the better.

Good to see lots of old friends here at LLVG. Emelia and Mike, I think you would find some characters to enjoy on Dinero. My favorite is Vicki who is as pretty as she is loca. She seems to be good-hearted but has a volatile, labile personality with nifty moment to moment mood swings very much like Loriloca but with a slightly firmer grip on reality. She has the added attraction of having two entertaining brothers, think Darrel and Darrel of the Bob Newhart Show... with knives. I really like her butcher dad though I haven't seen a lot of him so far. He's stern, rough around the edges, but generous and upright.

Emilia, yes that is I sharing the May photo with BB. As I've mentioned before, she loves riding with me but doesn't like going over 45 mph. Sounds like your grandpooch has a number of traits similar to little Bonnie Belle. Sounds like you guys need a full time dog.

Jeff, I really missed having a recap to do last night. I really like Vicki but don't have quite the same affection for her that I had for Coni. I think we all agree that as bad girls go, Coni was special. She and Ruth on FELS are two of the most sensuous and sensual characters ever.

Carlos

What a fantastic idea JudyB. Congratulations on your son's graduation. We just got back from San Jaun and I am still on sunny beach time and this cool weather here is not helping me. What do people have against CS. I love that show but for some reason univision is treating it like a bad show.Granted the storyline isn't the best but I like the characters. E Yanez's smile doesn't hurt either.I have tried to get into Dinero but like Anno Rockz, I still blame them for Gancho and CS time changes.Besides 2hr a night is too long.
Hombre,I can see a career change here. Thanks for the translations.
Well, dear ones chao for now.
Hanna, Md

Hannah. Welcome back. We were wondering where you were. While you were away we had some glorious weather here in the Midwest, but since Saturday it has felt more like November. Wretchedly cold and windy, and now, rain, rain, rain.

I had exactly the same initial reaction towards Dinero. Resentment. And the scheduling is still goofy. Dinero, being a comedy, should be on at 7 pm. Mi Pecado, a telenovela with some truly awful happening every single night, should be on at 8pm (I like it though).

Corazon Salvaje should be on at 9 pm. There are a lot of people who were enjoying it. But if they do yank it, put something similar on like Soy Tu Dueña (sexy hunk, bodacious lady type thing).

Recapping Dinero for two hours a night is a killer, worse than watching it for two hours. But I'm warming to it and rooting for our two star-crossed lovers. The folks on the blog line are nice, and Hombre and Carlos have come over to keep me company and that really helps. Really, really. Jeff and Güera have been watching it from the start, so they help me feel at home also.

I hope for the sake of my health, and those of my fellow recappers, they will stop this double scheduling soon. But who knows?

Darrel and Darrel....perfect, Carlos. I can't keep their names straight so I just mentally call them Frick and FracK. The Dinero regulars call them the Brother Grimm or BG for short. They do work as a unit. With knives. Always with knives.

Here's an attempt to show a few photos of the wedding. These are from Facebook so, depending on privacy settings, these may not work but give it a try.

These are from their friend Rachel's and these are from their pro photographer, Rick Martin.

Was able to see the Rick Martin photos and they were marvelous Mike. Thanks. Wonderful to see such joy and happiness.

Wah, I don't have a facebook account and can't see the pics.

Mike you are welcome to come aboard with or without beer and pretzels as long as you bring the lovely wench Emilia along.

Actually, Sylvia, I was thinking about Fedexing my mother out to California. What's the address of the marina?

Lemme see what I can do about pix. Maybe it's time I got serious about Webshots or Picasa or one o' them thangs.

And the 'lovely' (???) wench Emilia gets mal-de-mer watching the bathtub fill, so you may want me ashore as the welcoming committee!

Hey the whole family is welcome! OK Emilia, we won't force you to come along and feed the fishies.

Great pictures, Mike. Looks like it was a lovely wedding.

Those previews of STuD seem muy caliente. Not like I really need MORE television to get hooked on, but I'm looking forward to it anyway. I hope they fix the scheduling without doing anything drastic and dastardly AGAIN. Is that too much to hope for?

CS is still on at 9 pm in the Dominican Republic. I only caught a little bit (I had to make my sister watch some; I feel that was a vital life experience for her) but it seemed like they were only a week or two ahead of where the show is here.

Hola, amigos! See if you can get to the wedding pics on Picasa.

BTW, the lovely couple is enjoying a "luna de miel" in Provence. Not Provence, KY, but Provence as in France.

Awesome shots! You look like you are having a blast. Provence...one of my favorite areas on earth. What fun. Thanks for posting to Picasa.
