El Clon Thursday June 17: Summary and Discussion

Alejandro and Natalia escape! (or at least for the moment). Alej has a job (at the Arab’s place – and we know what kind of job security that offers!), got an advance on his salary and went out and rented a tiny apartment. Nati packed up her suitcase and a waiting taxi took her and Alej to their new place. She looks dubious at first but then bravely enters into the spirit and they talk about repainting and making it their own.

Luisa continues to suspect the worst of Albieri although he denies he has been unfaithful. He asks Daniel if he would like to go to Morocco with him and Daniel is ecstatic at the thought.

Miguel comes to Dora’s house to pick up Osvaldo’s clothes but she insists Osvaldo himself come by. When he does, they argue and he leaves without the clothes. Miguel refuses further involvement. He says:
La ropa sucia se lava en casa.
One washes dirty clothes at home./Don’t wash your dirty laundry in public.

Malicia visits Vicki and Cristina, and lets slip her novio is separated from his wife. So he was married when you met, asks Vicki. Malicia denies it, but it looks like Vicki has her number.

Escobarde and Malicia enter TORIM (the only restaurant in Miami) and there’s Andrea, on the phone, apparently having been called by Rosa who is looking for Nati. Andrea leaves and a few minutes later Julio and Clara enter. Escobarde is clearly annoyed to see them together and Malicia is clearly annoyed that he even cares.

And now – Said’s party!
Lucas and Jade spend the night smiling across the room at one another, despite Zoraida’s warning that Said is watching. Ali is also watching very closely.
Lucia and Latifa pick up their giggling, girlish friendship.
Amalia and Marisa compliment Rania about the food and say they’d get fat if they ate like this all the time. Rania says what Latifa said before: Our men like a woman to fill the bed:
A nuestros hombres les gusta que la mujer llene la cama.
Jadiya unleashes the Naz on the unsuspecting Enrique, the pretendiente she picked out for her in Fez.
Leo and Said discuss parenting, Leo complaining of the rebelliousness in his culture and Said boasting of the obedience of children in his.
Meanwhile, Samira is putting the lie to Said’s boast, telling Amalia how much she admires her and would like to follow her example.
Marisa takes Jade aside and warns her not to count on Lucas; he has a habit of changing his mind at the last minute. (And sadly, gentle reader, she is right!)
Marisa and Said vow that Lucas and Jade will never, ever be together.
The good news: No attempted murders tonight, since looks, indeed, cannot kill!

And after the party –
Rosa tells Leo, Marisa and Lucas that Nati has left to live with Alejandro. The three agree to stick together and do whatever they can, including withdrawing all financial support and school payments, from Nati in order to pressure her to leave Alej.
Andrea and Rosa are listening and they vow to do what they can to help the couple.

Mohamed and Latifa have their usual argument; Mohamed goes to the store where he sees Hilda, who is shopping for lentejuelas (sequins) to make an outfit for her winsome daughter. Amin fantasizes about said skank.

At the lab, Luisa tells her new friend Anita that she’s going to follow Albieri to find out the truth. And Escobarde challenges Julio, asking him how long he’s been seeing Clara.

Alejandro and Natalia show up at Gloria’s bar. Tomorrow we’ll find out if she can be as nasty as her consuegra (her son’s mother-in-law; no word for this relationship in English, I’m afraid), Marisa!

Ok, guys, now it’s your turn. Discuss!

Thanks so much, NovelaMaven, for this terrific summary. Even in its new leaner form, you've still managed to embue it with your delightful wit. I loved "No attempted murders tonight, since looks, indeed, cannot kill!" And thanks, too, for the helpful Spanish.

I don't have much else to say right now. This has been a very busy week for me, and I've not even had time to watch the recordings I made. Hopefully, this weekend, I'll catch up.

Thanks, Novelmaven. Ha... I like the name that the writers chose for female-impersonating Lucas...Jamila means pretty in Arabic. The male version is Jamil or Jamal.

Great summary, Novela Maven!

So what happened to Said's demand that Jade invite Jamila? Did I miss something or did they cut a scene where she made some excuse or what?

Are we to assume that Alej and Nati have, uh, consummated their relationship? Usually, it is a big deal when an important character like Nati loses her virginity. If Nati and Alej are living together, one assumes that they are sleeping together.

Why would Luisa assume that Albieri is with another woman? What is the one and only thing that has ever stirred Albieri's emotions? - Daniel.

NovelaMaven, thank you once again. I think this is the 3rd one this week for you!

I am glad I didn't plan on going to the party, a real waste of time as far as I am concerned. Why do they insisting on taking up air time for these things? Is the 3rd or 4th they have had so far?

I am glad Natalie has moved out. If she had a supportive family she would continue to live at home.

Finally, Rosa has come around and is willing to help Natalie.
After all of the harm she has done over the years, it is about time.
I think Gloria will come around also. She does love her son.

Jean, I am with you about Al and Luisa. Is the poor woman that insecure?

Rosemary

Thanks, NovelaMaven. I'm so happy you are continuing with great summaries, and I see others are equally pleased. Together, youall make up my weekend studies!

For whatever reason (stupidity probably), I'm having a tough time posting. Takes several tries. Lois

Rosemary -- This is my third little summary this week, but just imagine how much Jean has been doing for us writing excellent full-length recaps three times a week! She is my hero! And by the way, I'm glad that Rosa is finally helping "the good guys".
*********************
So glad you liked the summary, Juanita. I'm still working out the kinks because I don't want to shortchange people even though I'm going for brevity.
****************
Susanlynn -- that's fun to know about the name. (Remember how attractive the men found Lucas when he showed up at Jade's wedding and flashed those pretty eyes of his? hahaha)
***************
Jean, if they addressed the Jamila issue, it eluded me too. It was pretty stupid to think of inviting her anyway -- not exactly her crowd!

And poor Luisa -- still clueless after all these years!

It's true that the deflowering of maidens is usually a big deal, especially in this novela which has been more gynecologically focused than any I've ever seen. So maybe Alej and Nati's relationship remains chaste and the move together was just to escape from that awful family of hers. I guess we'll find out.
*****************
I have to say that I'm extremely disappointed in Lucas for allying himself with Marisa and Leo against Nati and Alej. His recent behavior makes the idea of Jade ending up with Daniel a bit more understandable -- Daniel is Lucas without the 40 years of Leo's poisonous influence. (Besides, I'm told that women's sexual peak is at 35 while men's is at 18!)

Thanks Lois! I confess it took me a while to figure out how to post here and even now I goof it up sometimes. But now that you've figured out the secret, I look forward to seeing you around here more often!

This is my third try to thank you, Novela Maven, and those commenting on your excellent summaries. Thanks to you and to them. You are a vital part of my weekend studies. Lois

Novela Maven wrote: this novela which has been more gynecologically focused than any I've ever seen.

Haha - that sure is true! I was so happy when the first generation all got through their virginity and proof of same issues and now we have the second generation becoming nubile and we're back to it again.

I thought Said was going to try and show that Jade had been deceiving him by demanding that Jamila be invited to the party but he either didn't follow up or, more likely, the scene was deleted.

--and let's not forget PaulaH, who until very recently was writing two full-length, high-quality recaps twice a week! Paula, you rock!

Thank you, NovelaM, for the recap, and thank you for rescuing me from 2ce a week recaps. I'm with you; I don't know how Jean did 3/week, and on her other TNs she did solo duty. What a hero!

I liked your new moniker, The Skank (with 2 Ks) for Karla (with a K).

"Gynecologically focused" - good one! Believe, it's better than my last recapping mission, Tontas, which was scatologically focused. We had the leads meeting over dog poop (which was a hint about the quality of the show), bed wetting discussed ad nauseum, puppy messes, toddler having an accident over papa's shoes, phone calls while sitting on the throne, and the problem of bathroom use while handcuffed to someone with whom you are not intimate. Now, aren't you glad you missed that one?

NovelaMaven/PaulaH - muchisimas gracias!

I too was wondering about A/N consummation. que paso?

de verdad - Lucas is not much of a man.

I'm not a hero - just a person who likes to watch and discuss novelas and sometimes gets in over her head.

As I recall, there was a lot of peeing in Alborada. I remember noticing it at the time.

Here
is a link to an article that was in tdoay's NYT about the popularity of Turkish soap operas in the Arab world.

I was also disappointed that Lucas decided to side with the bruja and Leo about Nati. Three cheers for Rosa who vowed to help Nati regardless of what her parents do. Of course, we know that things are going to get worse before they get better.

Waiting for Daniel to meet Jade is like waiting for the clone to appear. It's not going to happen while she is shut up in Said's house for sure.

Haha... yes, well maybe I do wax hyperbolic at times, but then I've been watching a lot of telenovelas...

...and in Gancho, flatulence was a major theme -- I mean Pedo City -- just one of the reasons I found it so often unwatchable.

when is this merry-go-round-of-a-tn going to end? how many more episodes?

I have to say Perro Amor and Donde Esta Elisa are waaay better; the stories are 'airtight' and plots move along fairly well.

Thanks NovelaMaven. I wonder what is going to come of Albieri's realization that he has to get Daniel out of Miami. He has asked him if he want go to to Morocco. So my guess is that Said will ship Jade back to Morocco and there she will meet El Clon. Maybe ....

Lynne

NovelMaven, thanks for the summary and discussion prompts. I don't watch the show but wanted to encourage you in your work.

NovelaMaven: Haven't had a chance to watch or to review yesterday's yet as I just got home, but cannot wait!!!

I need some help with what's gone on: 1) I've been at a disadvantage watching this, so can you explain why Cristina is going to an interview at some other bar and competing with Malicia for the job? 2) Did Said buy Cristina's bar from her? Or is his bar the competition? Thanks for the assist!

Karen -- Thanks so much for your support!
****
mrslmgallego -- We've seen 87 of 130 episodes.
*****
Lynne -- I had the same thought about where Jade and Daniel might meet!
*****
Jardinera --
Here's how I remember things:
Cristina still owns her bar and Miguel is running things day to day.

The first mention of Said's place was when Escobar told Malicia that he knew of a new place opening on Brickell; he knew the owner, an Arab, and the Arab had an associate, Rogelio; Escobar offered to get Malicia a job there(which she needed because Luisa had finally asked her to leave her home and the lab).

Ok, so Malicia didn't get the job because Luisa, coincidentally, intervened on behalf of her friend Anita. So Malicia threatened Luisa with revealing Albieri's "secret" unless she stepped in and got her the job. Got that? So Luisa caved and Malicia got the job. Meanwhile, Luisa's friend was hired as receptionist at the lab.

Malicia was still unhappy because she found out that there was a position of Relacionista Publica available and she was given the lesser post of Asistente.

Now after Cristina's break-up with Leo, she is out with Vicki and she bumps into an old friend, Rogelio, the same Rogelio who is an associate in the new business. He immediately offers the PR post to Cris, she interviews, he loves her for it, and offers her the job, much to the chagrin of Malicia. She accepts, not because she's looking for work, but she's looking to distract herself from her heartache over the break with Leo.

I don't recall at what point we were told that the mysterious Arab was, in fact, Said.

My God, the crap that is floating around in my brain!

NovelaMaven: Thanks for the review and clarification. Much appreciated!

Thanks for the week's worth of summaries, ladies. Am lost without 'em.

So, Nati's 18 but still a senior in highschool, verdad? They will be cutting off the tuition payments so she cannot graduate? Then she aces the GED if she's that smart and determined. How old is Alej? 20 or so? Sorry, but I will have to tighten the old beanie to believe he's paying for a place that nice in Miami on a bouncer's salary --or whatever position there he's got. What will he be doing at that new bar, anyway?

Well, if Mo really gets a second wife, or even threatens, I think Latifah needs to go on a good ol' occidental strike.

Jardinera --
They haven't told us what Alej's job is, but remember he grew up in the bar/restaurant business so he might actually have a decent position. ¿Quién va a saberlo?!!
