El Clon Tuesday June 22: Summary for Discussion
Estoy en una encrucijada
I’m at a crossroads, Albieri tells his priest friend, Andres. They agree to meet the following day in the clinic to discuss Albi’s troubles and to help him make a decision which, he tells Andres, will either make him immortal or destroy him.
In the clinic:
Escobar tells Luisa she’s judging Malicia unfairly. (I lost the transmission for a moment or two so I don’t know if I missed anything here.)
Luisa and Anita discuss the rude awakening in store for Escobar when he figures out how rotten Malicia really is.
When Albi enters, Luisa asks him where he’s been. She thinks he’s lying when he tells her he was with Andre.
Anita convinces Luisa to hire a private detective to follow Albi since clearly following people is not in her skill set. They find a guy on the internet, Armando Ramos, PI and arrange to meet him that evening. (I have a feeling it’s not in his skill set either.)
At Said’s house/prison:
Zoraida tells Jade that she thinks Said is sending Jade to Morocco; she’s afraid Said will punish them both. She reproaches Jade for her behavior and tells her she has misread the signs of her destiny. I’ll write my own destiny, says Jade.
Rania phones her sister Amina and begs her to come back to Miami. Said won’t talk to her, she’s afraid, doesn’t understand what’s happening but thinks Jade may have a lover. Amina tells her to watch Jade so she can report everything back to Said.
In Fez:
Amina and Zumaya, a niece of Abdul, are shopping in the Medina when they come upon Abdul who is talking to a certain Yamid about his daughter Jazmin; Abdul thinks she’d be a good wife for Mohamed. Whoa! Unclear if Amina heard, but it looks like she did…Abdul shoos them back to the house.
At Mohamed’s house in Miami:
A reprise of last night’s argument between Latifa and Mohamed. Afterward Samira comforts her mother and promises to stay with her.
In Empresa Ferrer:
Clara tells Carolina how humilliating it will be for Escobar to see her with Felipe since he’s the son of one of his best friends, actually saw his birth. Caro tells her friend her concerns about Enrique’s drinking.
Natalia comes in to see Leo. He wants to increase her allowance. What I want is your acceptance of Alej, she says. Let’s give it some time, he says.
Lucas greets her lovingly and echoes Leo: Let’s give it some time.
In La Casa Ferrer:
Marisa repeats to Rosa that Nati is making the worst mistake of her life by seeing Alej. Oh and by the way, I’m going out to dinner with Said. Misericordia divina! says Rosa.
In the Neighborhood:
Hilda and the SKanK are off Roberto-hunting, heading for his favorite disco, while Prince Amin ogles.
Gloria serves Nati a huge bowl of sopa de hueso carnudo to put a little meat on her bones. Nati smiles bravely and has at while Alej beams.
In Dora’s place:
Daniel is relaxing, listening to music. Dora’s going out. Check out my mole (lunar), he says. It’s growing.
¿Te duele?
Does it hurt?
No, me pica.
No, it kind of itches/bothers me.
While in La Casa Ferrer, Lucas is telling Rosa that his mole seems to have grown. That hasn’t happened since Diego died she says. Better have Albieri check it out. (Oh man, I don’t like where this mole stuff is going. Remember that Diego and Lucas’s mother died of melanoma)
In a restaurant in Miami:
Marisa and Said are dining and an acquaintance, Luis, greets them and asks after Lucas. He’s working, says Marisa.
Marisa tells Said that even thought she doesn’t give a fig about Lucas, she’s afraid he is going to get away sin un rasguño (without a scratch) and she wants him punished. Sin un rasguño? Says who? replies Said, who, it appears, is really into punishment. They kiss very publicly just to be sure Luis will tell Lucas what he saw.
Roberto is on the phone with Lucia, tells her he’s all alone, working. As soon as he hangs up, he’s off to party. (If he knew who was waiting to ambush him, he'd stay home and watch Animal Planet.)
Carolina gets worried because Enrique’s not answering his phone. She goes to his place to check on him, finds him unconscious on the floor, and calls an ambulance. Lucas joins her, tells her these alcoholic black-outs happen de vez en cuando (from time to time).
At TODIM (the only disco in Miami):
Escobar and Malicia see Clara’s entrance with Felipe. Clara looks hot and Escobar looks hot and bothered. Then Malicia craftily uses his jealousy to her benefit. She convinces the fat fool to use his euros to buy an apartment in Malicia’s name so Clara won’t be maintaining her boytoy with his money.
At Said’s house/prison:
Jade is sitting downstairs, waiting when Said enters. He announces that he is sending her to Morocco right away, that she will be under Tío Abdul’s charge, that Jadiya will stay in Miami and that Rania will be Jadiya’s mother. I’ll never accept that, rejoins Jade. I’ve already decided, says Said. Go have children with Lucas because you’re never going to see Jadiya again.
At first Jade begs him for mercy, but he is intransigent. This is all your fault, he says. Now resign yourself.
And then….Jade pushes back!!!! (Yay!!! She heard us!!!)
Over my dead body, she cries. I’m a U.S. citizen and I have legal rights. I can accuse you of bigamy!
You do that, says Said, and while we fight, Jadiya will end up in foster care!
Oh no, says Jade, Lucas and his lawyers will keep that from happening. I won’t leave without Jadiya!
Rania is listening in the background.
When the women are alone, Jade appeals to Rania for help, saying: I’m going to tell you the truth…

Thanks for confirming what I thought I heard; that Jade is a U.S. citizen. Took her awhile to play that card. Is Jake going to believe that guff about Jadiyah getting sent to foster care if they have a custody dispute? THat's news to me!
Thanks for the recappary.

For some odd reason, all I could think whenever I saw Marisa or Said was "vete al infierno." Pa' carajo... Hmm.
What an entertaining read!
Another item to add to the long list of illogical decisions in this novela. Why should Nati still be getting an allowance? Who would think that's a good idea?
1. Nati has not asked for it. She is ready to cowboy up and adapt to living like po' folk because it sure beats Mommy Dearest.
2. Alej sure doesn't want it. It already hurt his pride that Leo was going to give him a job. If Nati is moving in, Alej expects to provide for her.
3. Leo thinks it's just a rebellious whim and she'll soon come to her senses. Leave them alone and they'll come home, wagging their tails behind them. If that were true, she would come to her senses much sooner if she were living in a shoebox eating rice and beans.
4. Lucas has decided... what's it matter? Lucas's decisions have the life span of a mayfly.
5. Marisa.. ha!
6. Leo, Lucas, and Marisa all believe, to varying degrees, that Alej is in it for the money. If that's the case, and they put the brakes on the gravy train, Alej will walk, they'll be proven right, and Nati will move back home.
7. Lastly, apart from each person's agenda, there is simple common sense. Nati has moved away from home, she has moved in with her guy. At that point, if she wants to be an adult, she needs to take care of her own expenses. When you live in your father's house, your father provides for you. When you move out, you provide for yourself. That's the way the world works.
There is no one with a good motivation to continue giving Nati an allowance.
As far as I'm concerned, the whole sub-thread with Karla is an estupidez that the writers should have stifled. The only thing that redeems it is that it's good fodder for recappers. I liked your aside about Roberto: "If he knew who was waiting to ambush him, he'd stay home and watch Animal Planet."
I too don't like where the mole business seems to be heading. Then again, I'm a worrywort by nature.
In the Department of Clarifications --
--- I chose to translate the word "mensualidad" as "allowance" but it has a more general meaning of simply a monthly payment. It doesn't strike me as odd that being the only grandchild of a man as rich as Croesus, Natalia would be getting some kind of stipend monthly, maybe a trust fund of some sort. As far as I can see, continuing it would be the natural thing to do, regardless of where she is living; stopping it would be an act of punishment or spite.

Whatever they may say, I doubt that anyone thinks Alej is in it for the money at this point, not even Marisa. What they continue to think is that Alej is Not Good Enough for Natalia. They are snobs, all three. They think of themselves as a type of royalty. Natalia, as the princess, should be matched with the scion of another royal line, someone who is himself a prince. Someone who is polished, educated, good-looking, monied. Someone just like them. Misericordia divina!
Money is just a substitute for love and affection between these people. I think Rosa, Leo and Lucas see how happy Nat is and want it to continue. They know if she comes home what will happen.
Said and Marisa are dead to me! The only time they seem happy is in each other's company.
The mole thing worries me.
Rosemary
Hmm, I wonder where we're going with the mole business. As for Lucas going to see Albieri, on soap operas and novelas, a doctor specializes in everything. Albieri delivered Daniel, too so he is a fertility specialist, an obstetrician and a dermatologist.
Once again, Jade is surprised that Said is planning to keep Jadiya. How many times does she have to be told that the father gets custody of the child in a divorce before she gets it? No sympathy from me.
When Jade said that she would accuse Said of bigamy, did Said reply that his marriages aren't recognized in the US?
Could the skank wear a tighter dress?
Escobar really looked like the Chump he is with his new hairstyle and letting himself be conned by Malicia out of the apartment.
-- links them up ... hmm... sort of like a social disease.

Jean, Here, más o menos, is what Said said:
Resulta que no me casé contigo por las leyes de este país. Así que tan pronto que se compla el plazo de iddah, te vas a ir de mi vida para siempre... (The fact is I didn't marry you by the laws of this country. So as soon as the three [month waiting period]is up, you're going to leave my life forever.)
This is interesting. It seems to me that if Said is not Jade's husband in the U.S., then it would be even harder for him to claim paternal rights here. But if she or Jadiya leaves this country, well, all bets are off.

I agree about Jade. We've been saying all along that she needs to play the bigamy card, but Said didn't seem really worried about it. They seem to be leaning toward her actually going to Morocco, but I don't see how they can force her on a plane in the Miami airport (drugged? please, no). Said is becoming more and more distasteful. And how does he think he's going to mend his relationship with his daughter if he tries to see that she never sees her mother again? Especially since she specifically said she wanted to go with her mother.
I'd sure like Malicia to lose a round, but she goes from strength to strength, convincing "Ratoncito" that Clara had been unfaithful before they even split.
I keep wondering how (and when) Jade is going to meet Daniel? In Morocco?
I forgot to say before, I'm really worried about the growing moles of both Lucas and Daniel.
anyways, I also agree that leo & lucas want to give natalia the money out of love & also because they don't want to risk possible resentment or hate in the future.
Also, I hope jade finds a lawyer & doesn't go to morrocco because she'll probably get stuck there & regret it. Said probably has some evil plan for revenge once she arrives there. I bet he'll refuse to divorce her & torment her.
Now as for marisa & said, who was that man who said he was lucas's friend? I've never notice him on the show & he seemed too interested in said & marisa on their dinner date. Possibly a future blackmailer?

Juanita - In the beginning, I felt the same way about "soy tu Duena". Now it's a bit more interesting since Lucero is cracking the whip & being stern & mean.
I felt the same way about the show "las munecas de la mafia" but now I enjoy it.
But still, I enjoy "el clon" the best. I just wish there was more belly dancing.

Phyllis --
That guy in the restaurant who stopped to say hello to Marisa when she was out with Said? I assume he was just a casual acquaintance who was a bit surprised to see Lucas's wife dining with another man.
We see him staring at them only after they put on a big show of kissing, really just to get his attention. They are afraid that otherwise, the guy (named Luis, by the way) may not mention to Lucas or anyone else that he saw them. And they are looking to make people talk. Said thinks that would humiliate Lucas. Me, I'm not so sure...
