El Clon, Fri., July 23- Summary for Discussion

At the reception, Zein promises Said that he will bring Jade to Ali's house the next morning.

Tío Abdul tells Ali that he admires Cristina but thinks, 'si fuera un poco más gordita que llenara la cama... seria una reina,' if she could be a little curvier to fill the bed, she would be a queen.

Alej's fan section is ready for the fight but Alej is concerned that Nati isn't there.

Nati's high and dancing at a club. A cop asks for her id and then illegally searches her purse and finds a baggie with white powder, presumably cocaine.

Clara goes to the Chump's place to tell him about Fernando's drug habit. Naturally, he says that it is her fault for going out with young guys. Clara accuses the Chump of chasing after a homewrecker and being so selfish that he doesn't care about his son.

Fer tells Andrea that Nati has been arrested.

Lucas sneaks into the wedding reception. He and Jade start making goo goo eyes and smiling idiotically at each other as usual.

The cop who dealt with Marisa's necklace theft recognizes Nati as Leonardo Ferrer's granddaughter.

Alej is concerned that he can't reach Nati. Pablo tells him that his performance in tonight's bout will determine his place in the Nationals.

Andrea tells Fernando that they have to do something to help Nati. She suggests telling Alejandro. Fer replies that if Alej finds out he was involved in this, he will kill Fer. Andrea says that it is Fernando's fault that Nati is in trouble. Fer says that Nati did it on her own. She asked him to get drugs for her.

Alej is distracted by his concern for Nati and is not doing well in the fight. Pablo tells him to buck up. This is his big chance.

Dora seeks out Karla and tells her that she is Osvaldo's wife.

In prison, Osvaldo can't believe that Dora hasn't come to see him.

Alej wins the bout.

Andrea comes to the Ferrer house but Rosa tells her that Lucas and Leo are out of town. Marisa is in town but not at home. Andrea tells her that Nati has been arrested.

The fight promoter is impressed with Alej's bout and asks to represent him. The promoter says that he will support Alej financially and get him the best diet and training. But he says he is giving Alej a chance and there can't be any alcohol, women or problems. He has to be focused.

Said tells Mohamed that he knows the smart thing would be to let Jade go but he can't 'arrancármela de la piel,' rip her out of his skin. 'Prefiero seguir infeliz a su lado...que ser feliz y no tenerla,' I would rather be unhappy at her side than be happy and not have her, says Said.

It's off to the same hotel room as all the other weddings.

Zein tells Jade that he saw her in the medina the day he arrived and her image has stayed with him. He says that he wants to pretend that he really got married and follow the ritual to the end.

Dora comes home depressed but she hasn't told Estela about Osvaldo. Anita arrives to tell them that Luisa is on her way to Morocco. She asks to see a picture of Daniel about whom she has heard so much. On seeing it, she is impactada. [Does she know Lucas?]

Marisa returns home in one her uglier broccoli rubber bands and asks what is going on.

Rosa tells Marina that Nati was arrested.

At Gloria's, Alej gets a hero's welcome. Gloria tells him that, 'aunque nunca he estado de acuerdo, ni lo estaré, con las luchas, estoy muy orgullosa porque has ido detrás de sueño y lo conseguiste,' even though I don't agree with fighting and never will, I am proud of you because you followed your dream and achieved it. [Cristina and Gloria have become my two favorite characters in this novela. They started out loud and obnoxious but they have demonstrated that their hearts are in the right place.]

Marisa and Andrea go to the police station. The detective tells Marisa that Nati has been arrested for drugs. She says that it must all be a mistake.

The detective says no, they found a bag of cocaine in her purse and she had a fake id to buy alcohol. 'Además mire su estado, todavía está drogada,' But just look at her, says the cop, she is still drugged. Marisa bails Nati out, calls Lucas and tells him what happened. She says that she doesn't know what to do and that he has to come home. Lucas says that he will come.

Clara tells Enrique that she feels guilty that Fernando's drug habit is her fault because of the fighting in their house over her separation from Escobar. Enrique says that Fernando probably has a chemical dependency and it isn't her fault.

Nati accuses her mother of being a hypocrite by drinking and taking sleeping pills so that she doesn't have to face Nati or her father. Marisa says that she has never been in Nati's condition but Nati isn't listening.

Enrique says that people who have a chemical dependency have to quit cold turkey and they will always be surrounded by temptation.

Naturally, Marisa blames Nati's condition on Alej. Nati just wants to leave. Marisa tells Nati to go in the house or she swears... '¿Qué me jura, bruja?' You swear what, witch?' screams Natalia and says that she is fed up with being criticized and demeaned and that Marisa is ridiculous and superficial and that Lucas left her for another woman because Marisa is unbearable. Marisa turns and walks back into the house without a word. Nati demands money or the keys to the car. When neither Rosa nor Andrea obey, she walks away from the house.

Jade comes to Zein in a negligee. [Jade looks very beautiful here without so much eye makeup.]

He tells her that he likes the rituals of his religion but doesn't want to be tied to a wife. He won't demand to have sex with her; he has rented the adjoining suite, 'pero no quiero romper el encanto de esta noche,' but I don't want to break the enchantment of this night. He wants to wash her feet and have her dance for him like she would for the man she loves. Jade agrees.
Zein tells Jade that he hopes the night doesn't end because he only has this night to love her.

Said can't sleep. Ali says that it is fault and something profound about leaving doors open to the wind.

Zein asks Jade to make promises of love to him even though she won't keep them because, 'la religión de amor perdona las mentiras de la mujer amada,' the religion of love forgives the lies of of a woman who is loved.

Lucas is pacing in the restaurant waiting for Jade. She is supposed to come down when Zein falls asleep. Their flight leaves at six am and they have to be in the airport at 4. He can't miss the flight. Cristina tries to reassure him that there is still time.

The credits roll.

Comments:
Wow--que "action-packed!" I was so glued to the tv.

@ Anita: can't recall how she would know Lucas or Diego...(?)

@ Natalia vs. Marisa: That wasn't cocaine; 'twas truth serum :-)

@ the honeymoon suite: I had a profound feeling that hanging out with Zein/Sain would keep Jade busier than planned. So if Lucas has to jet, I wouldn't blame him entirely.

Yes it was a great episode!
I'm so glad that nati finally told marisa off. Marisa deserved this.
She knows everything that nati said is the truth & she left because she couldn't handle it.
I believe her tears were real because nati really hurt her.

As for jade, she seemed intrigued with zeins words during her foot bath.

Thanks for the summary.

Thanks, Jean, for a very interesting and helpful summarcap. This was a great episode. Like Erin, I was glued to the TV. My one regret is that since I was watching the program as it was being broadcast, I couldn't fast forward past Enrique's boring and irritating blather about drugs. Frankly, I question his assuring Fer's mother that Fer's drug dependency is a chemical dependency that he was born with. There may be some evidence that that's true of alcoholism, but I'm not aware that it applies to most drug addiction as well. Seems like a convenient excuse to keep from blaming oneself for one's actions.

I was surprised at Marisa's responses to Nati's situation. It's the first time in a long time (if ever) that I felt what she said didn't have an ulterior motive behind it. I'm thinking especially of how dismayed and sad she seemed after her angry interchange with Nati outside their house and, especially, how upset and helpless she seemed on the phone with Lucas. However, I hope this isn't the beginning of redemption for Marisa. There are some people I don't want to see redeemed, and she and Malicia top the list.

Jean, at one point you wrote "Zein tells Jade that he hopes the night doesn't end because he only has this night to love her." I'm wondering whether that's what I was trying to understand by Zein's saying "solo le pide a la noche que le cueste irse...." I didn't write down the entire sentence, but I was very puzzled by the part I wrote down. Was that what you were referring to?

I was amused at the informality of the arrangements between Alej and the fight promoter. I doubt that any such arrangement in the lawyer-driven US would be made so quickly and casually. Oh well....

Again, many thanks!

Wonderful recap of a wonderful episode. Thanks Jean!

Juanita, here's how I understood those lines:
Sólo le pido a la noche que le cueste irse, porque sólo tengo esta noche para amarla.
(I only ask the night to tarry because I only have this night to love you.) "que le cueste irse" means 'may it be difficult for you to leave' where 'you' is 'la noche'.

The actress playing Marisa was very impressive tonight, showing a real transformation from her haughty treatment of the police, to her heavy-handed treatment of her daughter, to her finally crumbling under the truth of Nati's words. Erin, you nailed it when your said "That wasn't cocaine, 'twas truth serum"

And as you've all said, when Marisa called Lucas, she sounded like she was really calling out for help.

When Nati walked off into the night leaving the three helpless women behind, I had a sick feeling. It reminded me of Diego's departure when Rosa couldn't stop him, Lucas was away and Leo was incommunicado with Cristina. Nati is in danger. She would have been safer if they had left her in jail overnight.

Now this is a lot less interesting, I know, but I felt that Clara was similarly sincere when she told Escobar about Fernando. Even though he reacted like a jerk (naturally), I wonder if Clara's words will sink in, especially the fact that she left so many messages for me that Malicia obviously never passed along. Although I don't want to see Clara and Escobar together, I would like him to remember that he is a father.

Jean/NovelaMaven, You and other recappers have not only expanded our world but that of so many others as shown by Melinama in “Caray, Caray!: 1,100,000 visits and counting! Will world peace come via Caray Caray?!” Thank you all for the great summarcaps and comments, often more entertaining than the episodes. Many of us faithful readers rarely if ever comment, but we “silent majority” are out there appreciating your work. This week Thursday’s episode (number 113) was not broadcast by Telemundo in Tucson so the summary was especially valuable. My husband and I enjoy El Clon because of the mostly excellent acting and photography. Many thanks!

Jean/NovelaMaven, I meant to sign the above comment! ...Elizabeth, Tucson

NovelaMaven, thanks VERY much for your very clear and helpful explanation of that Spanish sentence!

I too found myself hoping that Clara's words to Escobar will begin to awaken him from his blind infatuation with Malicia. This may not be enough by itself, but I think/hope that it will combine with other things to make him realize what an a$$ he has been. But, like you, I'm not eager to see Clara and Escobar get back together. Escobar doesn't deserve her, and she deserves better. Rogelio seems much more appealing.

Again, thanks VERY much!!

Dear Elizabeth,
What a lovely thing to say! Thank you on Jean's behalf and my own. It is a lot more fun to write these things if we imagine that people are actually reading them and enjoying them!

Juanita, fue un gran placer! I actually love questions like that. (Well, if I can answer them. If not, well not so much) :)

Thanks Elizabeth and all for the nice words. Your comments make it all worthwhile.

This was a fun episode. I'm predicting that Anita's surprise on seeing Daniel's photograph is going to be a tease - she will be surprised at how white he is or something.

I agree that some seeds of doubt have been planted in the Chump's brain but I don't want him and Clara to get back together.

I hoped when Dora confronted the sKank, she was going to try and help Osvaldo's situation but it doesn't seem like anything happened.

Great summarcap, Jean. And great photos. This WAS an interesting episode, with much less filler.

It was great to see Jade smiling and lighthearted while, yes indeedy, Said glowered throughout. He has an agreement with this guy, presumably believes Zein isn't going to exercise his nuptial rights, but still practically follows them into the room.

I think Rania might not have been such a pill if the awful Amina hadn't come to stay. Amina is the one putting her up to disagreements with Jade, for which Jade will be blamed.

I was practically cheering when Nati gave it to Marisa right in the eye. For once M had no sarcastic comeback; it all was too, too true.

I can't stand that brat Fernando. When the cop grabbed Nati, he hid behind a post. He was sort of "oh well" when Andrea was trying to organize a rescue Nati posse. He is a BIG part of the reason she's doing drugs now, getting her started. I was completely disgusted with The Chump's reaction to Clara's news, but I believe she got the last word.

I hope Alej now breaks it off with Nati. I think they'll end up together, but she has to go to rehab. Not showing up for his fight was unforgiveable. And I don't want him to forgive her.

It often seems like things are cut. Or my brain isn't working well. How did Dora know about Karla? And, did she know what Osvaldo was accused of and that Karla accused him? I couldn't figure out why she knew about Karla at all.

When Marisa called Lucas in Morocco, I sank back with a moan. Not another near miss. At first I thought he'd saddle up and leave right then, but it looks like he plans to take the same plane for which he has the reservations, but time is going to be tight. Of course, we know it isn't going to work out. And how was he going to get Jadiya on that plane?

Novelera, I got the impression he still plans to meet up with Jade...and Jadiyah...for the same flight back to the US as originally planned. It's going to be a long night for everyone, eh?
Also, I enjoyed seeing the change come over Marisa when she feels helpless to stop Nati's self destruction, and calls Lucas. If she turns over a new leaf, I wonder if they will match her up with a new love interest?
Jean, thank you for doing a bang-up recap!
Joan

Ms. Novelera,

When Ozzie was arrested while Dora looked on, he briefly mentioned Karla. After he was taken away, she asked herself "Who's Karla?"

Then (by way of TN fairy dust?), she somehow found K at that club......

That's my best recollection of how Dora would know that name.

Jean, thank you once again! If the recappers divided their recaps by the l,100,000 hits to the Caray site you would see how much each and every one of you are appreciated for your time and talent.

I am beginning to think that if Jade and Lucas ever get together they will be in wheelchairs and living at the "home".

I have not seen Jade wear her necklace in while or have I just missed it?

Novelamaven, I hope you are not right about your feeling about Nat!

Will Zein's kind words make Jade do something she will regret in the morning? Monday should be fun to see how Said spent the night.

Doesn't Raina have a family of her own that she and her wicked sister can go to?

Jean, I loved the photo of Marisa coming in the door. I couldn't decide if she needed a really good bra or smuggling melon in that dress.

Rosemary

I think scenes are cut in this novela but you are correct, Erin, that Osvi mentioned Karla's name when in Dora's hearing when he was arrested. Then Dora went to Miguel, the bartender, and demanded to know the story. We didn't see him tell her but he presumably did so and he would probably know the sKank's hangouts as well.

'smuggling a melon,' ha ha, I like that, Rosemary. That shot was a little unfair since Marisa was slightly bent over and that accentuated the blousing of the top with the pendulous tits or melon effect but it is still a really unflattering style.

The only way that Jadiya can join Lucas and Jade is if Zoraida gets her out of Ali's house, which would be incredibly difficult, she's probably sleeping in the same bed as Zamira, and incredibly dangerous for Zoraida.

Jean, that truly was one of the "uglier rubber band dresses", but I think she was actually smuggling tangerines under there, not melons...
Joan

Jean: Terrific as usual! Marisa's emotional downfall was exhilarating and Nati's excoriating torrent of words were on target and a minor triumph. Unfortunately Nati's such a mess I can't see how she will pull herself out of this (literal) nose-dive but the novela gods will manage a last-minute save somehow. Has to be. What tears me apart is the choice Alej will have to now make between his career and his need to support Nati. His new manager has demanded strict concentration on his training and no outside interference, which of course means Natalia!

I wouldn't mind at all if Hilda, Karla and Consuelo took a little day trip through the Everglades and, mysteriously, were never heard from again. Writers, are you listening? You wouldn't even have to shoot footage of it? You could just have Gloria reading about it the newspaper?

NovelaMaven: I just went through the everglades! Saw a number of gators who'd have loved a meal like that! One 13 footer tried to chomp our airboat!

Wow, I can just see the stink Marisa is going to cook up in the newspapers if she mentions Alej as the cause for Nati's drug addiction. Poor Carla! Her son is a pusher, essentially. Mucho years in prison for that. She deserves better. Loved the way she got onto the Chump's case for chasing skirts. I wonder if he'll check his cell for received calls and if Malicia was too sure of herself to remember to erase them. That might tip the jerk off to something. He's due for a brainwave or two to kick in by now.

Yah, that was a stupid stunt on Malicia's part. It seems like she enjoys causing trouble just because she gets a kick out of it, not like she has an "agenda".
Joan

I just hope clara confides in rogelio about the true evil deeds of alicia. Maybe clara will have her fired?
Interesting episode.

KC

Thanks Jean and NovelaMaven for the last few summaries. I enjoyed them (and everyone's comments). I caught up watching and reading over the weekend. (Unfortunately, my local Telemundo has been dropping the signal several times each episode, all week!)

The show has perked up a bit. This last week was much better than the one before. The character developments are mixed, though. Rania went from sympathetic to cartoon-jealous (but maybe novelera is right that Amina is to blame). On the other hand, Marisa had a genuine emotional moment, after being such a one-dimensional villain. It's a plausible development that an undeniable crisis with Nati would be a wake-up call for her, so I'll give the writers credit for that, and the cast for pulling it off. (BTW, nice one about the truth serum, Erin.)

Jean: such a cynical prediction about Anita and Daniel's photo! You may be right! But she sure was impactada, like it was a picture of a dead body, and I'm not sure Daniel's being white quite explains her reaction. So ask yourself, hypothetically, how would you react if you saw a picture of a clone? And what would you think of the scientist who created that picture in photoshop?
