El Clon, Fri., August 27 - Summary for Discussion

Various parent children interactions - some good, some not.
Osvaldo is back but he's a jerk again.

The Chump turns up at Malicia's apartment and demands that she sign the papers. They have a long conversation in which Malicia twists everything the Chump says into an insult to her. He is not that smart and she is slippery as an eel and he ends up with nothing.

At the pool, Diana isn't having any better luck in trying to convince Pablo that Malicia isn't a wonderful person.

I don't think Fernando managed to quit drugs for 24 hours. He and the unlovely Paula are at the pool, too. She is telling him how Alej threw her out of his apartment. Fernando loses his sight momentarily. He is frightened. Paula laughs it off and says that it is 'un apagón,' a power cut because he smoked too many 'porros,' joints. She says that it will pass and it does.

Carolina apologetically tells Clara that Fernando is through as an intern (practicante). She's given him many chances already. If she gives him more, she will lose her authority over the other interns. Clara understands.

Tío Abdul scolds Amin for ogling Karla. Gloria comes to the shop to buy a veil. Abdul is curt and sends Amin to help her but he is lusting after her in his heart.

Malicia hands the Chump a folder with the transfer documents and gets him to apologize to her for mistrusting her. She first tells him to check the document and when he starts to open the folder, she tells him to leave her alone. When he protests, she says that if he loves her, he will respect her need to be alone. Outmaneuvered again, the Chump has no choice but to leave.

Roberto tells Clara the good news the Chump has told him that Malicia has signed the transfer documents.

Miguel goes to see Osvaldo in prison to tell him that he has gotten the money for a lawyer to get him out of jail. Osvaldo is grateful and says that he knew his only friend wouldn't abandon him. Miguel tells Osvi that he can't understand why he looked at other women when he had Dora. Surprised, Osvaldo says that, 'Aunque Dora sea la principal, ¡un hombre siempre necesita dos sucursales! para no perderle la sabor a la vida,' Even though Dora is his main squeeze, a man needs a couple of girls on the side (literally, branches) so as not to lose his zest for life. He claims that it is the nature of men to do this. He says that when he gets out, he will go after the Naz and then take vengeance on Karla and then reconquer Dora. Miguel is disgusted and says that he won't visit him again. Osvaldo finally twigs that Miguel is interested in Dora. He is furious and swears that he will kill them both. Miguel tells him not to worry. He has already paid the lawyer.

Zoraida urges Jade to go back to Zein. Same old, same old, Jade blames Lucas for everything. Zoraida tells Jade that Mohamed doesn't want her back at his house. He is going to tell Ali not to bring her when he visits the States. Zoraida thinks that if Jade stays with Zein, Said might be persuaded to let her see Jadiya. Jade has another plan. She will wait for Jadiya outside her school. Zoraida urges her not to do it but we all know how effective that is.

Said is still fondling and smelling a veil of Jade's and remembering her begging him to take her back. Rania comes in and Said tries to hide the veil but Rania takes it and claims that Jade gave it to her.

Amina approves of what Rania did. Rania says that she will wear the veil all the time. Said may think of Jade when he sees it but little by little those thoughts will be mixed with thoughts of her.

Marisa tells Lucas that Nati stole her cell phone and money from her purse. Lucas replies that the situation is serious. Marisa agrees and tells him that she doesn't know what to do. She says that Nati wasn't like that. She has been transformed into a different person - a liar and a thief. Lucas say that he will talk to Nati.

Julio tells Anita that he is very confused about the Albieri situation. He says that what Albieri did was wrong but he doesn't deserve to go to jail. Anita speaks for us all when she says that what bothers her most about the situation is, '¡Que se lo haya hecho a Dora! ¿Por qué no alquiló un vientre para su experimento? Por qué hacerlo con una mujer que lo único que ha hecho toda su vida, es añorar un hijo, y que renunció a todo por el?' What he has done to Dora. Why didn't he rent a womb for his experiments? Why did he do this to a woman whose life was dominated by the desire for a child and who gave up everything for that? Julio tells Anita that he agrees with her but reporting Albieri to the authorities would mean the end of Albieri's career and of his clinic. Everyone would be investigated as possible collaborators. Everyone would lose, including him.

Roberto comes to get the transfer document from the Chump and he demonstrates that he really is one. Malicia has not signed the transfer. Roberto can't believe that the Chump never even looked in the folder to see if Malicia had signed it. Roberto speaks for us all when he says, '¡Compraste un apartamento con los ahorros de Clarita! ¡Hemos movido mar y tierra para poder legalizar ese traspaso! Te da un poder... y tú ni lo revisas. ¿Qué te está pasando, Raul?' You bought an apartment with Clarita's savings. We have been moving heaven and earth to be able to legalize the transfer. She gives you a transfer document and you don't even look at it. What is with you, Raul?

Vicki and Pedro come up on Malicia and Pablo making out on the beach. Vicki is cold and Pablo wonders what is up with her. Malicia tells him that she is sure that Cristina is filling her head with lies about her.

Lucas tells Rosa that he is going out to get Nati to give back the money she took from Marisa. Rosa asks Lucas to go easy on Nati. [These people just don't get it.]

Lucia calls Marisa and can tell from her voice that she has been crying. Marisa lies and says that she has a little cold but everything is ok. Lucia wants to know what is going on between Leo and his son [I assume she means Daniel here.] Marisa says that she will call Lucia later and doesn't want to go to a private fashion show (desfile privada). Lucia can't beleive her ears. She says that isn't Marisa.

Nati is high and at the mall looking for Paula. She runs into Andrea. Andrea wants to take her to the rehab clinic but Nati says that she isn't sick.

Its the same party as always with the same music, this time for Rania's birthday. Latifa, dressed in saffron like the Hari Krishnas that used to hang out airports, catches Zamira talking on the phone to Carlos. After obtaining Latifa's promise not to get angry and to help her, Zamira confesses that Carlos is her boyfriend. Latifa is impactada. She tells Zamira that she can't fall in love because she is engaged to a boy in Morocco. Zamira replies that she refuses to marry the man that her father chose. Latifa repeats that Zamira can't fall in love, 'Nosotros, los musulmanes no nos podemos andar enamorado así como así antes del casamiento,' Muslims like us don't fall in love that way before marriage. Zamira replies that Carlos is in love with her. 'Lo que es haraam allá, aquí no lo es,' What is forbidden there, isn't forbidden here.
Latifa is destrozada.

Luisa wants Albieri to talk to Daniel before he finds out that he is a clone from someone else. She can't imagine how she would react if she was told that she was a clone. Albieri can't understand her concern. Daniel is a healthy human being, no different than anyone else. Luisa wonders if that will be the case after he finds out where he came from. Albieri replies that he will be fine as long as everyone stops looking at him like an extraterrestrial. Father Andres comes over and announces that Ali is coming as well and they have to talk.

Lucas comes to Nati's house and tells her that she has to give the money back that she took from Marisa's purse. Nati flies into a rage and accuses Marisa of inventing the theft. When Lucas says that he just wants her to get better so she can go back to school, Nati claims that she is back in school but has no money to buy books or a meal. She screams that she can't stand the pressure of being accused of theft and drug addiction and tells Lucas to leave her in peace. Alej asks Lucas to leave so he can calm Nati down. Nati tells Alej that she is suffering. Alej replies that he knows she needs love and affection but she has to help him a little.

PSA - Enrique stole stuff from his family.

Jade finds Jadiya in her school. She tells her that she never abandoned her. Jadiya asks if it is true that she is in love with a Westerner. Jade tells Jadiya that she left the Westerner when Jadiya was born and she would do it a thousand times more to be with her. She tells Jadiya that she tried to get Said to take her back but he refused and now Tío Ali wants to take her to Fez and she may never see her again. Jadiya hesitates and then embraces her mother.

The credits roll.

Comments:
Wonderful recap, Jean! I'm very grateful for the Spanish, even though the excerpts made me realize otra vez how much I missed. And the photos were excellent. I especially liked the close-ups of the women/girls.

Well, I was happy to see that Oswaldo is really the scumbag I thought he was. For a while, I wasn't so sure, but his talk with Miguel left no doubt in my mind. I hope Dora winds up with Miguel.

I do wish Enrique would stop preaching to the choir (us) and start talking to all the idiots in Miami who clearly need to hear what he has to say: Alej, for one, and then Lucas, Marisa, Rosa, and Leonardo. Not to mention Nati.

Wow, Malicia really played the Chump for the chump he is!

I'm glad that Jadiyah seems to have reconciled with Jade, but I confess that Jade's trials and tribulations no longer interest me. They're much too repetitive and thus, ultimately, boring.

I wonder whether Nati and Daniel will encounter each other. So much was made of their friendship when they were young children...there seems little reason for that unless something is made of it now.

Thanks again for the recap. I keep being amazed at what a consistently great job you and NovelaMaven are doing, and not just once a week like most of the CarayCaray recappers, but two or three times. Muchísimas gracias.

Jean: Juanita is right in reminding us not just of the wonderful recaps done by you and NovelaMaven, but the fact that you continue to do them two or three times a week. And we continue to appreciate!!!
I was ready for them to throw away the key to Osvaldo's cell; any sympathy I had for this charming scoundrel is gone. Good luck to Miguel, he's a decent guy.
And Nati is like a fingernail scraping across the chalkboard...make her stop!!!
The actress playing Marisa is quite good, I never thought I would feel any sympathy for her but now I do.
As for Rania, highjacking Jade's veil, that was pretty clever.
Joan

What a great job, Jean! And I'm especially grateful you chose this Friday because I had no Spanish captions last night and would have had to work that much harder to capture all the dialog.

Juanita, I suppose the plot demands that Osvaldo be a jerk to justify the budding romance between Dora and Miguel.(And I've ALWAYS liked Miguel). Even so, I'm disappointed. Maybe one of the underlying themes of this novela is that people never really change, although sometimes they can keep their compulsions under control. A reformed womanizer is still a womanizer; a recovering drug addict is still an addict; and maybe a little girl who adores her mother but is mad at her, is still a little girl who adores her mother. So I have hopes for Jade and Jadiya.

I thought Rania's grabbing the veil and claiming that Jade had given it to her was a mistake. If I were Said, every time I saw Rania wearing the veil, I would resent her even more, precisely for not being Jade.

Oye, didn't Samira already confess to Latifa that she was in love with an occidental? (Although she didn't say it was Carlos and that they were novios).

The issue of Marisa accusing Natalia of stealing is, of course, nicely ironic -- the little girl who cried wolf. Marisa's past false accusations against Alej have stripped her of her moral authority. Nati knows how to use the situation to her full advantage.

Joan, your description of druggy nasty Nati as fingernails scraping a chalkboard is perfect!

Like you Juanita, I hope Daniel and Natalia come to realize they are each other's childhood friends.

I wonder how many people will have to tell Pablo that Malicia is pond scum before he begins to consider that they may be on to something...

Joan and Juanita, you have been so kind in your comments all along. I really appreciate it. Sometimes I'm so hurried or tired that the finished product is not what I had hoped. Without your encouragement and feedback, I doubt there would still be and Clon summarcaps! Thank you.

De nada, all. Thanks for the nice words and appreciation of the effort involved in doing the recaps. As NovelaMaven said, the commenters make it all worthwhile.

Interesting idea, NovelaMaven, that the theme of this novela is that the characters don't change. I remember thinking earlier that Cristina was the only character who had changed but with her attitude to Dora, she is reverting to type again, too.

I was also very disappointed in Osvaldo. To say what he did to Miguel after all he has gone through was totally bizarre. I hope Dora falls in love with Miguel. She deserves some happiness in her life.

I certainly hope that Nati and Daniel meet each other. As you noted, what was the point of the childhood friendship otherwise?

I also agree that the actress playing Marisa is doing a great job. She does seem to be changing. We'll see if it 'takes' .

I don't recall Zamira confessing to Latifa that she is in love with a Westerner. I remember Jade telling Zamira not to fall in love with a Westerner and throw her life away.

I just totally hate Enrique!!! I can't stand even looking at him. He is either giving his boring PSAs or behaving like a 2 year old when Leo consults Roberto taking hits on his flask. He doesn't deserve Carolina.

I'm not looking forward to Ali's and Father Andre's confrontation with Albieri on Monday's episode especially since I will have to recap it. I expect them to load on their religious concerns about cloning. Of all the issues about what Albieri did, the least interesting to me are the religious ones. I hope that I'm wrong.

Dear Novela Ladies,
I commented once before expressing my appreciation but I want to express that again with a hundred fold gratitude for all of your hard work. Without your summaries, I would be missing out on so much of the intricacies of the nightly plots. My spanish consists of maybe understanding one or two words per sentence which allows me to get the basics of what is happening. You wonderful ladies fill in so many of the missing blanks for me.
Thanks again.
SEA

Another great recap and photos. Thanks, Jean.

You and NovelaMaven really spoil us.

I, too, hope Dora finds some happiness before the end of this telenovela.

Prinny

Thanks for another summary Jean, they are appreciated. I'm not sure about one part though. I don't think Nati really said she was back in school. She said she was "back in school" in a sense, except that she had no money to even get there or buy books. She didn't claim to be attending.

I am more on Jean's side than Juanita's about Osvaldo. I so much liked the way he was when he got back with Dora that I wanted him to stay that way. His discussion with Miguel was shocking. I think the show misled us for a while about how good a man Osvaldo was.

I am also enjoying Andrea Lopez (Marisa). Cristian Tappan (Escobar) is also well cast; don't forget the work of actors in unlikable roles. To pay him an unusual compliment, he looks like such an idiot.

Speaking of idiots, I think Pablo may be headed down that road, since he has already started to believe the worst about his friends (and ex-girlfriend) without even talking to them about it. Unfortunately, I doubt any of them realize how evil Alicia is, so they won't anticipate this attack.

And yes, Zamira did tell Latifa she had fallen in love with an occidental, when Latifa asked her to promise not to. I think Latifa refused to believe it, but was forced to do so at the party. (Zamira must have been desperate to call Carlos to do so in that setting.)

Well, I'm off to check the classifieds for a "womb for rent".

Oh really, Luke? Well don't overlook India, The Rent-a-Womb Capital of the World, per this week's Slate (http://www.slate.com/id/2263136).

SEA and Prinny, Thanks so much!

Not really, of course. :) And I think the situation would have only been slightly less tragic if Albieri had taken that route. It wouldn't have ruined the woman's life in quite the way it did Dora's, but there's no doubt it would be a big mess.

By the way, has anybody ever paid attention to the banner/flag/veil in the show's title cards and opening sequence? I recently noticed it says "elclonefghjiklmnopqrstuvwxyz" (that's "ji", not "ij"), and "jadeymauricioelclon".

Nice catch, Luke! I have a feeling this novela is full of little surprises and inside jokes. For example --

-- Have you noticed the big plastic jug of Sunny D-ish stuff in Alej's fridge? Everyone (except the suegros, of course) who comes into the apartment goes right to the fridge, pulls out the jug, and gets ready to drink right out of the bottle. Then Alej swoops it out of their hands and pointedly pours out a glassful. It's sort of his small, ongoing battle to civilize his environment. The jug appears so often, it should be listed in the credits:)

NovelaMaven;
I have noticed in many TNs that there is always a big pitcher of neon-orange colored juice at the ready for breakfast.
Last week, Pablo came over, started to drink from the jug, and Aleg took it away from him and poured him a glass. Then Alej swigged from the jug himself. It was cute!
Joan

PS NovelaMaven;
thanks for your kind words! This website depends on the willingness of a few (recappers) to donate their personal time for the benefit and enjoyment of many--
Wish we could throw you a party when it wraps up! Maybe a cyber-party?
Joan

Jean, thanks once again for the recap and Spanish Lesson. I would be lost without you and NM. I would have to make up my own dialogue and plot. My Spanish and really improved because of your dedication to our addiction of TNs.

Several things have bothered me of late regarding this TN. It really distresses me about the one true love at age 12-13 for these children. Don't they know the value of a good education including education about life. It makes me crazy, the world is changing including in the Muslim world. If Jade had been allowed to go into the medical field as Ali had promised, I guess we would not have a TN.

If Jade only knew why Lucas stood her up when they were going away, I am not sure she still pine for him.

Marisa only wanted Lucas to #1 replace Diego and #2 she wanted the Ferrer name all that went with it. Nati was a convenient means to that end. Even her own family will not have anything to do with her.

I am on the fence about Dora. I understand her wanting a child but why didn't she find another man? Ozzie was up to no good when all this was going on, she should have dumped him then. When motherhood became difficult, she shipped the poor little tyke off to NY so she could continue to dance the night away.

Raina is a mess. Her only goal in life is to be #1 wife. I think anyone would do. She just doesn't want to be sent back to her family. Again, too bad she doesn't have an education to fall back on. Do all these Muslim women have an old maid in the family to be their companion?

Nati and Daniel - no one believed Nati about Daniel and thought he was make believe. If I remember correctly he is the reason that Marisa and Lucas stayed together - they thought little Nati had a make believe friend. I wonder if anyone will put it together?

Rosemary

"If Jade only knew why Lucas stood her up when they were going away, I am not sure she still pine for him."

What do you mean, Anon334?

OMG, Luke! I could’ve sworn I saw the words “el clon” in that banner the other day. But the rest looked foreign/nonsensical, so I shrugged it off as nothing. ...No me estoy volviendo loca :-)

So disappointed in Osvaldo. Dora’s better off without him. If zebras never changing their stripes is a theme of this novela, then I’m not all that touched with Marisa’s momentary “humanization.” Perhaps Nati will return to her nice self, Alicia will be unmasked, and Cris will bounce back. Hopefully, Jadiya’s change of heart is a step toward the culminating chapters…?

Anon 5:59. Basically, Marisa seduced Lucas making him late to pickup Jade. Go back and read Recap #19 dated 3/11/10 for the full details.

Rosemary

Jean great work on the recap and thanks so much.

NovelaMaven i like your point of view on people never changing despite how much they do try to change and keeping their compulsions under control.

Great insight into Rania and her not getting it about taking the veil from Said. The irony is she is now wifey number one but in Said's heart she always come second to Jade.

Also loved what you had to say about Marisa and how her little malicious stunt has kind of boomerang back upon her.

Luke what do you mean Pablo is headed down that same road as the Chump? He's catching up pretty quickly to the Chump as far as i'm concern. Here he is giving Alejandro advice about dropping Nati and the bad influence she is for him. Pleading with him to listen to him about her. While others are trying to say the same to him about Malicia but he doesn't see the comparison. Oh the Irony!

Rosemary, she "tried" to seduce Lucas. He submitted momentarily but realized his mistake and scooted out of there. If he was seduced by her then he would have taken his clothes off and had sex with her. Unless they did have sex and they didn't show him put his clothes back on then I assume what happened as I wrote above happened. You implied that if Jade would have known that, she wouldn't be pining for him. It's hard to know for sure how she would have known about this unless he would have told her what happened.

NovelaMaven: yes, I noticed Alejandro's undeclared jug war, which is a nice touch. As Rosa said, he's educado (no doubt thanks to mom-of-the-year Gloria). Among other weird, maybe-possibly-symbolic things I noticed, Albieri's house is decked out like he colonized Africa, which could be read as "explorer" (perfect for Albieri) or "Africa-obsessed" (better for Daniel, although it looks like sub-Saharan stuff). In Daniel's childhood room at Albieri's there was a poster of the X-Men, a group of mutant (genetically abnormal) superheroes. Diego's room has a UFO sign on the door, and Daniel, still being treated like an extraterrestrial, is told this is his room. Casa Mohamed is full of ottomans. In Zamira's room there is a rocking horse, which is a (mildly?) sinful representation of a living being. Lucas and Jade always met at the ruins, which are timeless. And this probably doesn't mean anything, but Leonardo's office has automatic (non-glass) sliding doors like in Star Trek.

By the way, can anybody make sense of Rania wearing a veil at home all the time, even when no guests are present? Shouldn't she show Said her "beauty" (AKA hair) as much as possible? This has been bugging me.

Anon 8:08, I think all Rosemary meant was that in one situation where Lucas was late to meet Jade, he was late because he was with Marisa, and Jade would not have been happy to hear that. I doubt anybody in the show cares about that now, though it could have gotten ugly at the time.

Luke, you are correct about what I meant about Lucas and Jade. I doubt that anyone in their right mind would like what Lucas and Marisa were up to. Jade has been much more obsessed than Lucas. Lucas has always been somewhat distracted in everything he has done. Maybe he should have been a musician after all.

The veil thing has bothered me for some time. It seems that the servants are the only women you see wearing them all of the time. The Naz, Latifa and of course, Jade never wears them when it is just family. There is always oen hanging by the door for them to grab when they go out or they have to answer the door.

For the life of me, I still cannot see what the Ferrer group does for a living. I know that Alberi clons cattle for Leo, The Ferrer Group is going to build a hotel for Said, but none of it makes any sense to me, they are never working. I would like to see a ranch and maybe some hardhats. What am I missing?

Rosemary

Does anyone know anything about the TN "India"? It is the recipient of the 2009 International Emmy Award as Best Telenovela. It is in the Telemundo schedule for 2010-2011 (Monday-Friday, Primetime). I wonder what it will replace? I know that El Clon is coming to an end soon, but I don't know about the other primetime TNs.

Rosemary

Thanks again, all, for the nice words.

I haven't seen it lately but there always used to be 3/4 of a cake with strawberries on it on the counter in Albieri's house. I don't if that signified Luisa's feminine touch or what.

I also wondered about why Rania and Amina wear their veils indoors and I figure that it was to save production costs by not needing hair stylists for them. Jade's hair shows even when she wears a veil and Latifa has the amzing bouffant hair but the other Muslim ladies only get a veil.

As for what they do at Empresa Ferrer, it is a typical novela business where people come and go, gossip all day but yet have large sucessful businesses. It never makes any sense but if we applied such standards to novela, we would be in big trouble.

Thanks so much, everyone, for the compliments but especially for your funny and thought provoking comments.

I sure hope I'm wrong but years of watching novelas is telling me that if Clon were really going to end on Sept. 28, we would already have seen 'muy pronto' promos for its replacement and would probably be in 'ultimas semanas.'

I checked the Wikipedia entry on Clon again. While it used to say that there were 160 episodes filmed, it now says that 183 were filmed. That would mean there are 45 episodes left after Friday, not 23. I know Wikipedia can be unreliable but whoever does this entry keeps it up to date with the episodes. As I said, I hope I am wrong. Nobody wants this to end in September as much as I do.

Rosemary: India is coming up on Telefutura, not Telemundo. I don't know when or what it will replace. (The schedule on TF's site only says "lorem ipsum," my favorite kind of nonsense.) I think almost all the novelas on Telefutura are reruns from South America, and the evening novelas I've sampled look concise and intense, compared to the Mexican and US stuff on Univision and Telemundo. I would watch more if the CC3 English was consistently on, so it didn't take as much work on my part.

By the way, Jean I'll bet you're right about Rania's veil, unless she has to wear it when she's pregnant? Just guessing. (I think Amina may technically have to wear it in Said's house, but I'm not sure.) I also remember and miss the ever-present cake. What's it been doing for the past 50 episodes?

Ladies and gents: have thoroughly enjoyed each and every recap! Don't get to comment as often as before, but I'm still here with you in spirit and eyeballing everything. I'm getting bored with Lucas' weakly written character -- yes, finally-- as well as Jade's overly selfish style that always puts everyone else in jeopardy. She and Natalia and her mama are getting on my last nerve. However, I don't want to see Marisa and Lucas end this show as a couple again.
=========
Only a few more episodios to go and I will be back to only one TN. This has been a rough summer! Never again!

Joan, I think we should get ready to raise a glass of cyber-champagne to Jean when this (or IF ever this) is finally done:)

Rosemary, really interesting comment! I also thought that Marisa, way back when, was just replacing one twin with the other. I believed in the Family Mythology: Marisa and Diego were in love; Lucas served as a pale substitute for his brother here as in so many areas of life.

Yet as others have pointed out, it seemed that Marisa and Diego didn't really know one another that well at the time of his death. Remember how surprised and touched Marisa was when she learned that Diego had her photo in his room? They were two people just starting a romance.

But I contend that it was Lucas that she got to know and with whom she eventually fell in love, even if she started out with the motive of glomming on to the Ferrer fortune and stealing Lucas from Jade.

One scene that has stayed with me: Marisa (using the nom de guerre 'Cindy') and her 'boytoy' David -- he asks her what she wants to do and she says: You be Lucas and I'll be Marisa (!!!!)

When Marisa finally meets Daniel, it is no accident that she sees Lucas in him and not Diego. Even though Leo thinks Marisa shares his Diego-worship, he's wrong. For her, Diego died when he died. Period.

Jean, you said Marisa seems to be changing. I'm not sure. She is showing pain and vulnerability, but even narcissists can be wounded. Being lonely and being selfish are not mutually exclusive. On the contrary, they frequently go hand in hand.

By the way, Marisa's loneliness is even more acute now that Lucas has asked her to keep Natalia's problems in the family and she can't even get the release of confiding in Lucia --- who, ironically, in this instance, might have something sensible to say about getting treatment for Nati.

----------
Blusamurai, Soooo true about Pablo and the Chump. And I'm sure Malicia's already looking over Pablo's shoulder, choosing her next victim. (Rogelio, anyone?)

----
Jardinera, I know how busy you are so it is particularly nice to see you here again. [And I see you've shortened your name, but kept your number. Call me a sentimentalist, but I do miss Blackheart!] :-)

Novela Maven: If we raise any cyber champagne, it won't be just to me. We're partners in this, amiga.

I am not sure that Marisa undergoing a permanent change. Nati's drug problem has reduced her arrogance and she really seems to be concerned about Nati. But once the crisis is past, she may revert to her nasty self.

Offhand comment a la set decoration, cakes, orange juice, etc:
Remember on the headboard of Albieri's bed there was always a life-size carving (or stuffed) iguana? I always thought that was weird, specially since it was still there after the 20 year jump-ahead.
The prize for creepy still goes to Enrique's shrink's office, with the eeerie wall hangings...
Joan

NovelaMaven: I had forgotten about Marisa's roleplaying (I think it got blocked out by her "Twofer Tuesday" that followed shortly thereafter). I am starting to think Marisa has an obsession with Lucas not entirely unlike Said's obsession with Jade. I was never convinced Marisa loved him, though she may have genuinely wanted to be with him, and not only for his money or his resemblance to Diego, but for him. When things started to get ugly because he was still in love with Jade or because the marriage wasn't fulfilling for him, Marisa stayed focused on Lucas, and thoughts about him motivated all her actions. Supposedly they stayed together because of Natalia, but we all know Marisa was less of a mother to her than a fashion critic. I suspect the main thing that kept her there is the opportunity to be with Lucas, even if not on peaceful terms. If that's right, Marisa has been a more interesting character than I realized. Not simply a callous harpy by nature, but someone who succumbed to that unpleasant lifestyle in a pitiful attempt to deal with her mixed-up marriage. Look at me, I'm defending Marisa. Next thing it'll be Alicia.

Nooooooo...don't do it Luke!!! We'd have to start calling you Raul! hahaha

Jardinera654, how is it that you hope that Lucas and Marisa don't end up as a couple? Don't you notice the opening sequence? It ends with Jade and Lucas looking out to the sunset. Also, this is a remake.
