El Clon, Mon., August 30 - Summary for Discussion
Jadiya spoils Rania's birthday party
Marisa gets her money back
Jade tells Jadiya that she would never abandon her and Jadiya asks Jade to come home with her. Jade replies that she can't. Said won't take her back. Jadiya says that Said told her that Jade loved a Westerner. Jade tells her to forget about the Westerner. He never loved her anyway. One of the maids in white shows up and is surprised to see Jade there.

I found this picture from Sandra's twitter collection showing that episode #160 is the last one.

I'm am so ready for this TN to come to an end. The writers seem to be using the module method of writing. "OK, let's insert Module A [Enrique's rant] here." "Let's put Module B [Jade blames Lucas for everything] here." "Time for Module C [Enrique's PSA] here." "Let's throw in Module D [Latifa's fear that Mohamed will take a second wife]." Etc. etc. etc. Sigh.
Jean, I think we did have an indication that Enrique prepared the documents for Roberto. Didn't Roberto go to Enrique asking for help? I remember the very smug look of pleasure on Enrique's face when this occurred.
Earlier in the TN, I found Jadiyah cute but somewhat insufferable. When she was so unhappy, I wasn't so aware of her insufferability, but last night's episode made it clear that she hasn't lost her talent. On the one hand, I understand that she's acting as she is because she misses her mother and resents Rania, but still....Jade better watch out what she wishes for: I can see Jadiyah as a really obnoxious teenager making her mother's life miserable when she (Jadiyah) doesn't get her way.
Juanita, I also thought Roberto's asking Enrique for help was the marker for Enrique's later reference to his doing work without getting credit. But I suspect there was a scene or two cut out that would have shown him doing this work. "Menos mal", you say? Well, yeah, but they could have done it in a few seconds-- the two together in a book-lined study, a line or two of dialogue -- just for clarity's sake.
Daniel's scene with Albieri was beautifully written and played, I thought -- simple and stark and sad.
Rania's Unhappy Birthday Party reminded me of Marisa's years ago. Remember when Marisa took Lucas's "Jade talisman" (the jade necklace) and wore it defiantly at her party? Didn't work out too well for her, did it? Well Rania was tempting fate by flaunting Said's "Jade talisman" (the gold veil) at her party.
Yes, Jadiya was horrible to Rania but no more horrible than Rania has been to her. Jadiya has good reason to feel as she does.
Jean, Jamil did sound prudish last night when he scolded Jadiya about her clinking gold. But I see him more as a Zein in the making. He seems to know very little about Islam; his point of view is strictly occidental. Maybe his parents keep up appearances in the local Muslim community for the sake of business (apparently Said is important in his invisible negocios). I wouldn't be surprised if Jamil somehow led the truly prudish Jadiya astray.
I didn´t express myself clearly in the recap. I saw the scene where Roberto asks Enrique for help but as NovelaMaven pointed out, there were probably some omitted scenes of them discussing the issue or whatever before we have Enrique complaining that he did all the work and Roberto signed the documents.
I agree that the scene with Daniel and Albieri was done very well.
I wish Marisa had taken the opportunity to at least talk to Alej when he came to the house. Her desire to help Nati should have overcome her dislike of Alej at least a little bit. She should realize that she, Lucas and Alej are going to have to work together to bring Nati out of this.
I thought Jadiya was behaving exactly the way a spoiled little girl would.
You may be right that Yamil is going to convince Jadiya to adopt a more secular or Western attitude. I´m just not sure that a Westernized 10 or 11 year old kid would think that wearing a lot of gold jewelry was so offensive. After all, he was wearing the hat thingy and a robe, I believe. Qué verguenza!
Yes, Marisa's reaction to Alej was shocking, but it shouldn't have been. She is the same self-centered snob she has always been; only now she's in pain.
By the way, I felt Clara's worry that her problems with Fernando were interfering with her relationship with Rogelio was foreshadowing their break-up. Malicia is not finished torturing Clara. Somehow she is going to turn Rogelio against her, telling him she's a bad mother or something. And then Malicia will then be his dance partner (for a while). Pablo doesn't yet know how fortunate he is that his days with Malicia are numbered. And as for Rogelio, after he fired Cris he lost my sympathy so I won't be too sad to see him Maliciated.
Daniel’s enlightenment was indeed necessary, but it was like a nightmare come true; I’ve been super-preocupada about his feelings for some months now. Pues, me dolió mucho para ver esa escena última. I’m wringing my hands over what he might do now, tan nerviosa para él.
If Nati doesn’t get some professional help this week, I’ll eat my hat. Ya me cansé de su toxicomanía. Las escenas están como “plot molasses.” ¡Que esas PSAs de Enrique se paren también! Oh my gosh…
Yes, there was a lot of repetitive stuff last night. It doesn't appear that Alej is ever going to get the memo that the only thing that will save Nati is rehab. He's gone long past his earlier "this is the last time" and isn't even saying that any more.
I was disappointed in Marisa's conclusion about Alej. For one thing, it makes no sense. She knows Nati is doing drugs. Does she really think an addict would give $100 to someone else? It was much more logical to conclude that Alej made up the $100 from his own funds.
Jadiya should stop taunting Rania, but, after all, she is a child. And Rania has been cruel to her.
I think of Jamil as someone who is trying to get Jadiya off her gold obsession. After all, I've wished she'd not be so grasping. So maybe Jamil is trying to wake her up to how this appears. But it seems to be falling on deaf ears.
Zoraida can be very foxy. She wants Jade back with Said and her child. So she knew exactly what to say to Said. The thought of Jade married again, perhaps for good, to another man, will drive Said nuts.
NovelaMaven: excellent word coin: maliciated. I hadn't thought of the witch breaking Clara up with Rogelio. I just thought that was Clara fussing and was unlikely to happen. I hope I'm right. Poor Clara doesn't deserve any more pain than she's already had.
I also can't quite figure out this Yamil, or more precisely, can't figure out what he's doing around Jadiya. They have nothing in common except the culture, and Yamil isn't even that into it. And I agree with NovelaMaven, he's suspiciously cynical for a kid. He's really pressing his luck to greet his hostess with an insult.
Loved the Albieri/Daniel scene. We're starting to see the real payoff of the clone story. I also thought the preceding scene with Alí and Andrés was fairly good, with those guys being appropriately sympathetic. I don't think it worked much for Dora though, because (understandably) she sees almost everyone as her enemy now.
Also, while Albieri was wrong that cloning is a new way of being born, I'm not sure it's a new way of being conceived, either. If conception is when a sperm and egg combine, then Daniel's conception was about 40 years ago, and he shares it with Lucas and Diego. On the other hand, conception might be the production of the first cell of the organism, in which case cloning is a new way to do it. I'm assuming Albieri transplanted only a nucleus from Lucas's cell into Dora's egg. This means Daniel has Dora's mitochondria (which have their own DNA), and so is part-Dora after all.
"As for Mauricio, there's no doubt that he's pound for pound the best actor in the whole novela. Mauricio's participation will go down as one of the best casting coupes off all time."
Andrew What-son?..greeting your hostess with an insult and Dora's mitochondria!!!!
Juanita i like how you think about the writers maybe they shouldn't have extended this if they were going to do this.
Great scene with Dora and Ali and the father and Estella, but it was definitely topped by the Albieri and Daniel scene and knowledge of how he was created.
NovelaMaven great point about Jadiya being horrible to Rania like Rania has been to her. Also loved your new made up word Maliciated.
Let's hope that Clara has had enough of the malicious one and tells all her troubles to Rogelio about that nasty little skank. I hope she doesn't get off lightly with what she has done either.
Jean: and thanks to you (and NovelaMaven) for the hard work that helps foster these fun conversations!
