It's so cool. I remember being really excited about the US bicentennial when I was a kid. (There's even a part of me that says "wheeee!" when I see a bicentennial quarter.) It must have been really, really exciting in Mexico last night!

Sorry, meant "a part of me that STILL says"

Thanks for the post. It was a big night, definitely.

The best way to celebrate is with a little humour.

Thanks Kris! It's fun to see all the Independencia commercials. I wish I would have gone downtown to enjoy some of the festivities.

Jarocha, your video totally cracked me up.

Kris, I tagged your post on the Gancho discussion link. Maybe some of our pals will see it and chime in.

thanks for posting this spot. I haven't seen a club gancho posting for a couple of weeks so this is a fun chance to catch up. It was really inspiring to see all the festivities at el Zocolo and then simulcas with LA, and other festivities. The DF parades and performances were really so exquisite. It also reminded me of our bicentennial, I was still living in Boston at that time. One high light of that was a woman gave me a free ticket she could not use to be on a navy ship in Boston Harbor to watch the parade of tall ships. Gee, sailors look great in those form fitting uniforms. We had the best seat in the Harbor, as I remember it since I couldn't get a spot up on the rigging of one of the majestic tall ships. I miss those kind of parades here in New Mexico, no water, but we have the International Balloon Fiesta coming in October.

Cheryl, sometimes we have the tall ships come into San Francisco bay. They are a gorgeous sight indeed. They come once in a while, it's not a regular thing. We also have fleet week every year the beginning of October; lots of ships and sailors, an air show, and everybody takes their boats out for the show. It's kind of a madhouse on the water as you might imagine.

I celebrated La Independencia by looking at my pics of my visit to Guanajuato last year. However they also included the giant hook where Hidalgo's head hung for a few years, oh well.

No celebrations happening in my part of the world except the annual Celtic Fest in a city about half an hour from here. Hub and I ususally go to hear the music, but grandbaby Jane's third birthday is this weekend and my daughter and son-in-law are flying down from Toronto for the weekend to celebrate. Maybe they'll want to drop in at the festival for a little while since our son-in-law is of Celtic descent [unlike our family ....German/English/Danish]. My sister and cousins are driving out to the Ballooon Festival for the first time. Maybe Hub and I will get out there to see it...someday.

Susanlynn, happy birthday to grandbaby Jane! Sounds like a fun weekend. Have you been watching Mira Quien Baila? I haven't seen it yet but I always think of you when I see the ads.

Cap'n~~I saw the first show. It was a little bizarre. I didn't recognize anyone except that Nurika [?]..the mujer with the loooong faux nails and huge mop of hair. I think that she was in FELS for a nanosecond with black hair. She's back to the ginormous blonde wig. I was afraid that she might knock down her partner as she swung her massive hair around. She did a pretty good job of dancing. Unlike poor Macho Camacho...ay-yi-yi. I'll watch again Sunday night if I remember. No one can beat our Liz Vega. I'll have to see if she's still on Youtube. Well, back to cleaning on this lovely , sunny day. Bleeeccchhh.

I feel your pain amiga. I am spending the entire weekend doing massive housecleaning which has been neglected for way too long. A few weeks ago in my Llena recap I posted a link to our Liz doing the quebradita. One of the characters mentioned the dance so I couldn't resist posting. Now I'm watching the occasional episode of La Fea and Niurka plays the receptionist. She looks very cute in the show but then I see her on talk shows BALD and acting very weird. Her blonde mane must be a wig. Oh those wacky stars. OK, back to dusting...achoooo!!!!

If you watch Mira Quien Baila, pay special attention to the host, Javier Poza. He's a DF radio talk show host. His voice is BEAUTIFUL, his diction is SPECTACULAR, and his Spanish is EXQUISITE. They should hire him to record audio books. I'd pay money to listen to him read stock prices!!

From listening to his radio show, etc., I get the impression he's a really nice guy. My Mexican friend says that he's VERY smart. And would you believe it? He even has a beautiful singing voice. Crisp and clear the way José José sounded in his prime.
