La Verdad Oculta 009 TUE 2010/09/14: Tuesday Night's Alright for Fighting

At Pachita's office, Gabriela looks for her dad but meets Leonardo who informs her a man met her dad and took him off somewhere. Then Leonardo uses the chance to make time with her, but Gabriela lets it roll off her back.

At the prison, Marcos plans more trouble with the local low life. Back at Mario's office, Mario sweetens the disguise deal by dangling the true identity of Márta's killer over Santiago's head. Santiago's furious to think it would have been Adolfo, but Mario points out Adolfo implicated both of them.

The warden lets Gregorio off for now due to Juan José vouching for him; but they are still investigating who placed the drugs, and that person or persons will pay. Gregorio returns to his cell.

At Mario's, Abelardo barely averts David discovering Santiago in the office; but David relents and exits. Inside Mario assures Santiago he will help him resolve all associated problems with the plan. Mario will give Santiago an explanatory letter to absolve Santiago of any charges.

They have time; when Mario does die, he'll be far away. Santiago will take his place. Santiago is to quit his job; and later as the two of them exit across the lawn, Bertha casts an evil eye their way from her bedroom window above.

Gregorio reports what the warden said to Juan José, but Gregorio's sure it's Marcos harassing him. Juan José lightens Gregorio's mood by sharing some cake Elsa brought. Gregorio dreams again of his glorious treasure when he gets out.

Roberto mashes companionably on Julieta at work; and she's not minding much, when David enters and asks that Gabriela be told to meet him in the office.

At Adolfo's, Yolanda criticizes his harsh treatment of Carlos, but Adolfo's interested in toughening him up. Spoiling him is her job, he says.

Yolanda wants Adolfo to trust Carlos with more of the business, but Adolfo complains Carlos is still immature and consumed with skirt chasing. And as you well know, he says pointedly: when hormones come in, brain cells go out. Adolfo's lack of trust is why Carlos is always at David's throat, Yolanda says.

Félix enters, and Adolfo sends Yolanda packing unhappily; when Félix suggests sending Carlos on the smuggling operation, Adolfo's horrified Carlos would ruin everything. Adolfo sends Félix out on the Veracruz job to bring back the truck.

Gabriela irritates David by coming late to the club office and complains she puts him off and makes excuses to him -- and then goes off to a restaurant with a moron like Carlos. She angrily explains about the uniforms and says besides, she can see who she wants -- and he can go around with his little COUSIN!

Carlos and Roberto enter; Gabriela exits; and a fight ensues between the two suitors over her, which amazingly is broken up by Roberto, masquerading as the adult in the room. Roberto suggests they settle the problem with a bet.

At the prison mess hall, just when Juan José thinks it's safe to go back into the water, Gregorio accidentally on purpose dumps his meal on Marcos's head, causing a general dust-up and mayhem of all room occupants.

Bertha is up early at Mario's to go to church and her mother's grave. At the breakfast table, Mario lamely invents an imaginary salesman who was supposedly in his office yesterday, when David asks who took up all his time.

As Bertha exits, Roberto enters to discuss the bet he plans with David and Carlos over Gabriela, which very idea enrages David, who literally heaves him right back out the door.

At Gabriela's, Julieta effuses over possibly going out with Roberto, but Gabriela tries to discourage her; she doesn't like him. Julieta is disgusted they never get to go out with anybody.

The warden furiously tries to pry the truth out of the fight participants, but none of them will spill; so he puts them all into solitary.

On the street in front of Gabriela's apartment building, David begs Pachita to climb upstairs and bring down Gabriela, who when she arrives on the street will barely talk to him. He wants to explain about things, and she finally relents to meet with him a few minutes before church later. After she exits, David looks pleased.

Santiago arrives home and announces to the girlz he has quit his job and will be "selling books" with the fellow who came by several times. Leonardo visits and wants to invite "all of them" to dinner, and Santiago agrees that Leonardo can return later with take-out instead.

Santiago likes Leonardo, and Julieta is thrilled to have company. But after Santiago exits, Gabriela's disgusted that once again now she has to put up with being stuck and miss a date with David. Julieta erupts indignantly to hear Gabriela has a date and decides for sure she's going out with Roberto now.

At Adolfo's, when Yolanda hears Félix has gone to pick up the goods, she wonders what will happen when one day Carlos learns about his shady deals. Adolfo says he won't find out -- unless she tells him; and Yolanda won't tell him, because it would hurt Carlos, she says. But he's smart and will find out anyway.

Yolanda reminds Adolfo it's the 20th anniversary of Márta's death, but he doesn't care. Santiago visits Márta's grave at the cemetery, where Bertha has also arrived and spies him malevolently.

Carlos visits with Yolanda to her great delight and asks about Gabriela and Julieta. She begs him not to mess with them -- especially not with Gabriela. She lights a candle and tells him it's for an old friend from her acting and dancing days.

This reminds Carlos to ask about his mother, of whom he has not even a photo. Did she know her? Yolanda answers disconcerted that they were -- er, good friends. Carlos only remembers Yolanda since he was little, and that's why he loves her like a mother, he says, moving close and kissing her hands tenderly. Yolanda sighs blissfully and caresses Carlos's face.

During dinner at Gabriela's, it comes out that Leonardo's from Durango, where his family lives. The doorbell rings, and out in the hallway it's a police subordinate with the news the smuggling truck has arrived, and Leonardo exits. Gabriela's relieved she can meet David now.

At the garment factory, when Elsa again asks Roberto for another loan, he recommends Carlos; but she's hesitant Carlos might misunderstand.

David awaits Gabriela anxiously at the ice cream parlor and is relieved when she arrives on time; he explains right away he was angry not at her but at Carlos last night, for that stupid uniform pretext. And apologizes for Alejandra's slight, explaining he gave her a hard time later. David wants them to use familiar address; and when she objects it might look bad, he points out they are both single -- and she's adorable.

Félix & Co. are just pulling the smuggling truck into the warehouse when Leonardo and his AFI troops appear and shoot their lights out. Félix is wounded but escapes. At Adolfo's condo, Yolanda is exiting as Roberto arrives.

He's alone in the living room when someone groans loudly, and the wounded Félix falls into the room from another entrance, bringing Adolfo running down the stairs. Adolfo calls his private physician and is prepared to pay an astonished Roberto big time to keep his mouth shut.

I've been wondering who is tipping off the AFI, and I'm thinking it might be David somehow.

How come the tag is "salvaje?"

Just habit; thanks.

Thanks so much Jeri! I was wondering as well who is tipping off the police. Not that I want Adolfo to succeed in his shady dealings, but he seriously needs to clean house to find out who among his poeple is working with the police.

More interesting interaction between Yolanda and Carlos which seems to point to her being his mom. But why would they hide that if she is? She's like his dad's wife anyway. I guess we'll just have to wait for more clues.

So will Roberto get pulled into Adolfo's shady dealings now? He would certainly like the money, but he's a coward. Don't see how that would work, or why Adolfo would trust him more than his own son. Perhaps Adolfo's true reason is that he doesn't want to mix Carlos up in dirty dealings and he's using Carlos' immaturity as an excuse? I also found it interesting that Adolfo is so against skirt chasing. He really doesn't seem to have a sexual interest in women. There is never a sexual vibe between him and Yolanda, he never looks twice at the waitresses, and he's all about focusing on business. He's evil, but I like his style better than slimy Salomon's.

That Bertha is too nosy and too smart for her own (and our) good. She's gathering too much info that could hurt Mario's plans.

Gabi and David are very sweet. But I get Gabi's aprehension. He is her boss afterall. But he is so smitten. He just lit up when she actually showed up for their coffee date. And they were totally unaware that they were holding hands through their conversation about whether to use the informal tense with each other or be "friends" at all. Loved Gabi's subtle clues to wrap up dinner with Leo and get going. She was poking Julieta from behind and quickly pulled out Julieta's seat to get her up quickly to say farewell to Leo.

Marcos should think twice about messing with Don Goyo. He's old, but this is the guy who shot two men dead in cold blood, and thinks nothing of admitting it. But why do I get the feeling that the old guy won't make it out of there by the time his last two months are up? Loved that he beamed Marcos int he face with his metal tray. He got whipped by an old man. Twice! Can't be good for the ego.

Thank you, Jeri!

I LOLed a bit at the salvaje tag - I'm on sick leave now and finally have time for working on the short version of CS. I've just finished the wedding scenes. While I enjoy the good script, the directing, the great characters and the acting of this show much (and especially that EY plays a guy who's called Juan but isn't a complete idiot), I miss our good old circus. Noel and the Montes de Locas, Aimee and her fans, Remigio and the pescadores, Doctorcito, Boobsenda, Regina's awful hairstyles and those blue, white and red shirts... yummy. :))

Now I go and watch the episode. The screencaps are promising, it seems Marcos will meet his fate... again, again and again.

I'm afraid of the day when the jerks of the show will team up. No spoiler. It seems to be inevitable that at least two of them will form a union - Roberto needs money and a job, Elsa's lawyer tries to get Marcos out of jail and I'm sure that Adolfo will need more henchmen.

Yeah...actually I am not missing CS much; this show is much better in important ways. Thank goodness it came along so I wouldn't be in withdrawal.

Yolanda and Adolfo are an interesting mystery. That was so odd, the way he said how she well knew about hormones and neurons. She must be Carlos's mom; that scene was just too much.

And I must say, Marco Méndez looked lovely in his close up. He is a beautiful looking guy. Didn't notice that so much at first, but I see what Jarocha sees in him.

If Adolfo and Yolanda are not a couple (and he is not interested in women), then maybe Adolfo and Félix are? Adolfo was very upset when Félix got shot. If Adolfo plays for the other team, then he might have been looking to adopt Carlos back when.

But I was kind of looking at the boyz' eyes and thinking David and Carlos could be half brothers and thinking Adolfo would have been their father.

Roberto is a survivor, I think; Adolfo's world would be just the thing for him. He could go far.

Whenever I look at Bertha, I don't see a young woman. I see her as one of those indomitable German hausfraus who they coined this saying over: "The man is the head of the house, but the woman is the neck that turns the head."

David is so taken with Gabriela that he's not using his normally good sense; he touches her and comes on so strong when it's inappropriate. No wonder she's taken aback; but he can't help himself, and it's true: he has treated her well. So I think she is feeling it; I was glad to see her eager to not stand him up again.

Marcos is the stupidest! And unfortunately, I think it runs in the family. I thought I saw Elsa kind of weakening when Salomon was explaining how things go a few eps back. What was that noncommittal look on her face, instead of rejection.

Lots of kids with no moms and no photos of their mothers: David, Gabi, Julieta, and Carlos. And we haven't even heard Roberto's story of his mom yet.

And we have no idea what the story is with Marco's and Elsa's parents.

Yolanda emphasized that Carlos should especially not mess with Gabriela, which was noteworthy to me.

Also now Juan José, Alejandra and Bertha are all motherless; it's a motherless world in LVO. Interesting psychology.

Thank you Jeri for the recap, photos and links.

Seems like so many secrets and family connections going on here.

Great observation Vivi about 'lots of kids with no moms'. How are all these people connected I wonder? I thought Yolanda and Adlofo were lovers, or aren't they? Does Yolanda know what business Adolfo is in and if so, why is she pushing Adolfo to include Carlos. She seems nice and genuinely loves Carlos so I can't imagine her wanting him to be involved in anything illegal.

Yolanda specifically warning Carlos away from Gabi, hmmm, wonder why, are they brother and sister.

Was surprised to see that in prison when the old guy was eating cake he was using real cutlery and a plate, lol. Would have thought that was a no-no in prison coz they can be used as weapons.

Margaret

I refuse to believe that Marta could have three kids fathered by three different men- Carlos by Adolfo, Gabi by Mario and Julieta by Faustiago. Anyway, that would also put Julieta off limits to Carlos. Unless Carlos' and Gabi's (and Julieta's) mothers were sisters and they're cousins, or they share the same father (Mario), then I don't see how Gabi and Carlos could be related.

Margarte- There has been no sign that Yolanda and Adolfo are lovers. In fact Carlos described Yolanda as a friend of his dad's from way back when he tried to explain who she is to Roberto. Seems that he doesn't even know how they came to be so close, although they've never been an item, as far as he knows. With a dad like Adolfo, I wouldn't question the presence of the one loving parent-figure in my life either.

So, I've been noticing a good looking man in the credits not yet introduced and looking for a place to put him.

He might be Adolfo's "private" physician, and if so we could meet him soon. If he's a good guy, then I always wonder what makes a good guy devoted to a bad guy.

Leonardo is destined for somebody, and I'm wondering if it's Julieta. If she dabbles with Roberto, and he gets mixed up with the law and hurts Julieta, agent Leonardo could come to her rescue.

I hope Juan José gets out of jail soon; I want to see him rich and in a suit. He's got to get out, find the treasure and clean up. Hard to imagine him getting out soon with all this mess going on now.

I think Leo and Julieta will eventually become an item as well, once he gets over his attraction to the curvy Gabi, and notices the more slender beauty of Juli. :)

As for Roberto-- Julieta is young and wants adventure and romance, but she's a smart girl. I think she will quickly come to realize what a slime Roberto is, like Ale did. And if he tries to hurt Julieta in any way, Gabi will kick his butt. And then David will kick it a second time on behalf of Gabi.

I meant to comment some time back on the differences between the two sisters' interpretation of their life. Although their values are very similar (hard working and respectful), Julieta saw their moving from place to place as an adventure that she got excited about, but Gabi has always seen it as a hinderance and something crazy. Julieta is just now starting to feel that way, now that she's thinking about finding a boyfriend and getting a real education that can help her future. That's likely the function of her being the baby sister and Gabi taking on more of the mama role in family and needing to think about these things.

We were corporation brats and moved a lot. I loved the different locations and changing schools every couple years, and I am the oldest; my two younger sibs pretty much hated it. They still haven't forgiven our parents, I think.

The oldest child is more intrepid, while also protective; the younger sibs tend to benefit from being protected and come to expect security. At least that's the way it worked in our family.

Jeri- The absence of a mom likely changed the dynamic for Gabi and Juli. In the case of Ale and Bertha, it was Bertha the youngest who was so unhappy with the life they were leading when their dad lost his money and their lifestyle changed. While Ale seemed fine. And their values seem so different from each other that it's like they were raised in separate households!

Good point about the motherless two; and David's cousins don't even seem like they're related!

I have such a bad feeling about Bertha. She's always collecting information to file away, and she's very forthright with it.

I've travelled with my family much but I don't know what is it like to move to another flat or city. I live in the same comfortable, spacious flat for two decades, I know every inch of it, I know every street, building, shop metro station and tram, and it'll be hard to leave them forever. Though I'll try to see it as an adventure

Whenever I look at Bertha, I don't see a young woman. I see her as one of those indomitable German hausfraus

:)))
Have you seen the awesome British comedy series called You Rang, M'Lord? When Bertha started to boss Dora around she was completely like Miss Poppy Meldrum.

From 2:35.

Can't you just see her at age 75 stabbing some 6'4" Viking out of her way with her umbrella in the bakery line...

"I refuse to believe that Marta could have three kids fathered by three different men- Carlos by Adolfo, Gabi by Mario and Julieta by Faustiago."

ENOCH:
(I can't figure out how to choose a screen name here.)

There is a shortage of older women and mamas in this show. Everyone is motherless. It appears that Mario was married to someone other than Marta. Did she have a child?

Is it Mario's wife (not Marta) who was non-killed by Juan? But Juan was convicted of it?

As to Adolfo Hitler, I take it that he is just not demonstrative in public. And he may not have much hormonal interest in women because of his age. What is he? 75? I take it that Yolanda is his mistress/amante. I can't think of any other possible relationship.

We still have unknown parentage to account for in this show.

We can nominate Elsa for being a consummate fool.

LOL, absolutely!

Hi, Enoch.

Choose an identity -> Name/URL -> Enoch :)

If I remember well the victim was a younger woman who worked at the restaurant.

We can nominate Elsa for being a consummate fool.
Agree.

Jeri, I don't know which I enjoyed more - your recap or your insightful comments.

The recap and pictures were marvelous. So many wonderful lines but my favorite was"...a fight ensues between the two suitors over her, which amazingly is broken up by Roberto, masquerading as the adult in the room". Excellent!

I'm enjoying the possibilities and the mysteries. It also crossed my mind that David and Carlos could be half brothers. But, I also wondered about Adolfo's sexuality. He is frightfully glacial.

Vivi, I don't think longevity is in Don Goyo's future either...

Aribeth: You noted you were on sick leave. I wish you all the best - am keeping you in my thoughts.

I miss CS. Juan in that billowing pirate shirt was amazing. Like you Jeri, I am waiting to him to appear in a suit. He looked hot in DA and expect he will here too as well.

Diana

Vivi thanks for clarifying the Yolanda/Adolfo connection.

There is a mystery at the moment about David and Carlo's parentage (mum and dad). Interesting also that these two guys are also attracted to Gabi. Are they maybe brothers or even half brothers. Can't wait to find out.

Margaret

Diana, nice to see you and thanks. :-) "Frightfully glacial" is so apt.

Thanks Jeri for the summary and screencaps. Hey Aribeth, I feel ya. I miss the craziness of CS too. However, I do love the mysery and intrigue of this show.

When is JJ going to get out of jail? I fear with all the shenigans with Marcos and Greg that will keep JJ in jail for a while longer. I love his and Greg's friendship.

I agree that David is a bit agressive with Gabi but he's absolutely smitten with her. Bertha could definitely become a problem with Mario's plan with Fausto.

It seems Elsa is going to be the proverbial victim. Things didn't look good for her in the previews. I know tonight's show is pre-empted once again. Looking forward to the next show.

Bertha must be psychic.

She wants her uncle to die and leave her wealthy.

So she already despises Santiago -- who's going to keep her from inheriting, if things go as planned.

Jeri, wouldn't David inherit everything if Mario dies. Why would Bertha get anything, unless she plans to marry David.

Margaret

Jeri, thank you once again for the recap and screen shots, they were great.

Trying to figure out everyone's parents is giving me a headache. I hope there is more to this TN than this cryptic plot line.

I think the mole for the AFI is Roberto. Who would ever suspect such a nobody?

Rosemary

Rosemary

Jeri, I really appreciate the recap and I read it before watching and it greatly enhanced my understanding of this episode.

In the previews, it seems Ale tries a lip lick on David. Aren't they primos? I coming to the realization that this cousin thing is acceptable in Mexico.

Aribeth, feel better and I am enjoying your recaps and other contributions.

I like the Carlos actor. He has beautiful sad eyes which give him an air of vulnerability in this novela. He is really not strong enough to stand up to his cold critical father. Yolanda offers him love and defends him but for some reason, I don't think she is his mom.

GinCA

Margaret, it seems like David should inherit Mario's fortune; but clearly Bertha thinks she's going to get something or she wouldn't be wanting so urgently for Mario to die.

She suggested to Alejandra earlier that Mario should just die already and leave them his money.

Rosemary, the parentage question has not really been much of an actual issue in the story so far.

They have a lot of irons in the fire, but the only parentage issue of functional value has been Gabriela's.

I think it's we who are so focused on who's who and trying to get that drama nailed down.

GinCA, I recall a number of people who like to read the recap first and then watch the episode. I'm glad it helps!

GinCA- Ale and Bertha know that David isn't their blood cousin, but he doesn't know that. However, the whole kissing cousins thing is sometimes accepted in novelas, and sometimes not. I remember Jarocha saying once that it depends on the region in Mexico where you're from as to whether or not it's acceptable.

Yeah, the parentage obsession is ours, not the novela's so far. :)

Thanks, Vivi,I forgot that Ale's mom blabbed that info about David to Ale and Bertha. I wonder how David will react to the kiss since he thinks t he and Ale are cousins. Thanks for the info about kissing cousins. You are so insightful it seems you would make a great psychiatist/psychologist.

GinCA

There was that day that Bertha gave David a peck on the lips like it was nothing; but David looked taken aback and touched his lips in disbelief.

I wondered about it aloud in the recap at the time...

Vivi, I know you are doing just as valuable work with youth and your ability to analyze motivation and behavior, i am sure, are assets in helping people to reach their potential, a most rewarding outcome when you can change young lives.

GinCA

As a trainer for the Dept. of Corrections in an unnamed state, I can attest that the prison scenes are really off base. You would not be allowed to bring food in, there would not be real utensils, you could not fix anything in your cell, among other discrepancies. The prison scenes are definitely beanie worthy. One of the most odd things is how often the prisoners can receive visitors. US prisons are more humane than Mexico or other countries, so what we're seeing here is way to liberal for where JJ is supposed to be. Just adding my knowledge to the well of comments.
I, too, am ready for JJ to get out of prison, though I really like the scruffy beard look on him. You've got to admit that EY has one of the best smiles in all of TN land. If I dare say it, better than FC. But then again, I'm partial to EY. I thought he was muy guapo in CS, but don't like the fact he smokes in LVO.

Good morning. Barbara, you may dare say it around here. A number of us are partial to EY here, and you're in good company.

So, I was thinking about the cousins' deceased mother and why she blabbed about David's parentage.

If the mother was more a picture of Bertha than Alejandra it becomes all too clear. Their mother may have even resented David, if Bertha follows the mold.

Thanks Jeri, you may be be right, as a niece to Mario, Bertha expects that she will definately get something.

Also, liked your observation regarding Ale and Bertha's mom being resentful of David.

I also can't wait for JJ to get out of prison. Hope that happens soon. JJ is always so chirpy and just happy to be readig his book. I don't remember him being angry at being wronged and wanting to get revenge on those persons that put him jail.

Margaret

Thanks for the kind words GinCA. :)

Margaret- JJ has spoken a bit about getting revenge and justice, but not in the same all-consuming, deranged way that JDD did in Salvage. I think he was more focused on providing for his mom and giving her a better life when he got out, and now that's gone. I don't think he has much of a purpose now as he doesn't seem to feel there's anyone or anything waiting for him on the outside. I'm sure Elsa would strongly disagree.

I wonder how they'll get him out? He has a lot of years left on his sentence, and all these dust-ups between Marcos and Goyo are wrecking his "good behavior" record. I also want to see EY all prettied up in a suit and not that brown prison uniform anymore. Although, he fills that out nicely too. :)

Vivi, I want that "all-consuming, deranged way" type of revenge talk, lol. I like my heroes real intense, lol. JJ is like a big teddy bear that you just want to hug all the time, and go coochie, coochie, coo, lol.

Margaret

Ladies, thank you for the best wishes, I feel much better and going to work tomorrow. :)

Wow, 42 comments.

Back to the episode, Jeri, I loved this sentence: which amazingly is broken up by Roberto, masquerading as the adult in the room
Priceless.

Now that Goyo Connery has a pretty braid he reminds me of an older version of Juan del Bipolario. Eric del Castillo is simply adorable in this grumpy, lunatic role. It's hard to keep on my mind that the old man killed two innocent men. And broke Marcos's fingers.
However, Marcos and Goyo are true examples of the proverb "with friends like these who needs enemies". These idiots give poor JJ a very hard time.

I like the relationship of Yolanda and Carlos. Hopefully Carlos
1. get rid of that mustache and
2. won't become a bad guy who dies in the end.
