La Verdad Oculta 013 2010-09-21: The First Kiss
At their L.A. hotel, the girls enthuse over the wonderful time they had with David the past evening; Julieta says she learned his being there was no accident and is excited he really likes Gabriela. Gabriela wonders to what end, though. When David reappears, he convinces them it's OK to blow Déborah off and sight see with him instead.
Juan José visits the prison physician and learns Gregorio was taken to the hospital in serious condition and may die.
When Déborah meets the girls again, she is relieved to be blown off. After they exit, she sneaks back into their hotel room to plant the smuggled diamonds in the infamous pair of Gabriela's shoes.
On visitors' day, Juan José greets a distressed Elsa and explains about Marcos's fight and worse trouble if Gregorio dies, which upsets Elsa even more. Juan José advises her more money will do Marcos no good now, but gives her a comforting embrace.
Déborah phones Adolfo in the D.F. to confirm she planted the diamonds and relate she's happy to spend as little time with the girls as possible. He agrees and instructs Déborah to just get them a cab to the airport for their flight home and be done. Adolfo thanks her and says with a grin that they'll see each other soon.
David plays tour guide to the girls all day and into the evening, to their delight.
Yolanda visits Carlos at the club office; and when he distractedly informs her about the girls' "prize" trip, she is mystified.
That evening, Julieta begs off dinner, exhausted; but David insists Gabriela must spend their last evening together with him. They agree to meet later, and despite herself Gabriela is happy when Julieta claims David likes her.
Yolanda visits Adolfo at the condo and becomes furious and terrified for the girls when she learns what he has them involved in. They could spend years in prison, if they are caught! But Adolfo was desperate with Félix down.
At the restaurant in L.A., to the beautiful theme song, David and Gabriela sit and speak with their eyes. David covers Gabriela's hand with his own, then lightly caresses her forearm and then her upper arm. Gabriela's eyelids drop, as though his touch were a drug in her veins. David closes his eyes when Gabriela caresses his face. They move closer, each seeking the other's lips, and kiss the first kiss.
Next morning, Leonardo's subordinate, Ramón, comes by at home during breakfast and explains all of the captured smugglers insist the boss is Patch (Félix); but Leonardo's sure there's someone higher up than he. Too many millions invested to not be someone important. When he learns that Patch was supposedly in the truck but escaped, Leonardo is sure they are highly organized and involved in lots of other smuggling: jewels, arms, etc.
David and Gabriela spend a blissful day at the beach and motorcycling around Santa Monica -- and kissing in each other's bare arms.
Juan José tips a guard to talk to an unrepentant Marcos in solitary who's philosophical about ruining his parole chances; so what if he has to spend a little more time in there? When he's just interested in getting more money to pay the low lifes to do jobs for him, Juan José advises against it; those guys just want to set him up as the patsy, he insists.
Déborah stops by the girls' hotel room only to make sure Gabriela is wearing the diamond shoes home on their flight and exits. At her departing back as the door closes, the girls have a mutual giggle mocking Deborah's perfunctory pleasantries.
When Leonardo drops by Santiago's place on the way out to work, he encounters the phone men installing a unit in the apartment. Leonardo invites Santiago and the girls over for dinner and drinks that night when they return, and Santiago genially agrees.
As Leonardo exits, he passes Yolanda on the way in. She wants to warn Santiago once again to get the girls out of town; that the trip was actually Carlos's idea and not a workplace prize, because he likes Gabriela -- as David does also. If they stick around, someone could discover Santiago's identity. Get Mario to fire them, she suggests; he can do it!
So far Adolfo hasn't mixed much with his employees, she says; but he could start any time. He could nose around and find out everything. Yolanda is afraid for Santiago and the girls, too. She protests too much when Santiago asks if she knows who murdered Márta. Of course not! she exclaims. If she knew, doesn't he think she would tell him? she asks.
David stops by the girls' hotel and offers to take them to last-minute shop for a little something for their dad. When he tries to kiss Gabriela and tells her he adores her, she's wistful but reluctant.
Santiago calls Mario to give him his new telephone number, and Mario explains about Abelardo's trip to L.A. to pick up the stuff Santiago needs for his disguise role. They decide to fix up a place for it in the adjacent house Mario plans to buy. Mario startles and puzzles Santiago by asking if Adolfo paid for the girls' trip.
Yolanda goes to meet Adolfo at the condo, and she balks when he orders her to pick up the shoes with the diamonds from Gabriela upon her return. Adolfo reminds her forcefully that jobs like this are their bread and butter -- which feeds her, too, he might add.
Her objection is that it involves innocent people. And don't forget what ensued the last time this happened, she reminds him -- with Márta. Márta didn't know about it and was discovered. He explains about the special shoes and that nothing is likely to happen.
He has no choice, Adolfo insists; Faidella has caused him massive losses, and he must recoup them. She has to figure out some excuse to retrieve the shoes and bring them to him tomorrow: they're worth $60 million pesos!
At the scheister lawyer's, he's got bad news and good news and bad news for Elsa: Marcos's case is near impossible if the old guy dies; but Juan José's is looking good -- and unfortunately he will need more cash. Elsa is resigned to coming up with it; and as she exits, the lawyer on his side of the closed door grins his evil grin.
Shopping in L.A., Gabriela's diamond shoes are so painful she can't walk in them anymore. When she sits on a bench to remove them, David goes off to buy her a better pair. Returning with them, they throw the $60 million pesos, diamond-filled shoes in an ordinary trash bin on the promenade.

At last! The moral lesson of the episode: girls like fancy shoes but unable to wear them for more than 4 hours.
Have you noticed the Narnia Street LIght that they keep focusing on? The street lamp reminds me of the street light that is featured in CS Lewis' Narnia. Time will tell if there is any intended allusion.
We don't yet know if Gaby has thrown the diamonds away, for she may turn around & go get the zapatos. I don't look at adelantos. I turned off the TV right when they started (& I don't know why they think they have to put on adelantos. If you watch a network you may see them suddenly in your face at any time of day. So, I don't know if the adlelanto showed her going back to fetch the shoes. Ha.,
Thus far it has been a hilarious account of a crime unraveling from the getgo.
1. Adoph Hitler bought her the shoes without being careful about the size or comfort of them.
2. Carlos sent Gaby's sister with her to LA.
3. David went to LA and ended up buying Gaby different shoes!!! The blond villaness was cut out of the departure. Boy. will Adolf be mad at her.
4. David urged Gaby to toss the shoes.
It may be that Gaby will have no trouble stopping working at the NonSagitarian Restaurant.
Will we get to see Adlof looking through the LA landfill desperately??
Will some naive person retrieve the shoes and find the diamonds?
Will Gaby say, "No, I can't junk the shoes because Yolanda will ask me about them & I can't tell her I tossed them as uncomfortable?
They missed an opportunity at drama & suspense, also comedy, by not having Gaby & sister return to the hotel room to find something she forgot, while the blond suddenly has to hide. I can see her go out the window on a ledge. Gaby, "Who left the window open?" Julieta: "I don't know, but you'd better lock it; Spiderman lives in the US."'

And how do you adopt a screen name?
Enoch
Jeri, how beautifully you conveyed David and Gabriela's growing attraction where they: "speak with their eyes". Also: "David...then lightly caresses her forearm and then her upper arm" and my favorite: "Gabriela's eyelids drop, as though his touch were a drug in her veins". Oh my...Masterfully done, as always.
It's fun conjecturing what the consequences and repercussions of the discarded shoes will be. Whatever happens, I certainly won't mind Adolfo squirming a bit. I believe the previews showed Gabi telling Yvonne she threw the shoes out. I would think they would be nearly impossible to retreive. As Enoch noted: "Will we get to see Adolfo looking through the LA landfill desperately??" I'm not sure, but I look forward to him trying (hopefully fruitlessly) to do so! :)
Aribeth, I simply admire fashionable, high heels from a distance. Beautiful to look at but to wear? Nopis.
So now Elsa has to try and come up with even more money to get Juan out? Of course, I want him out in the worst way but she'll never be able to repay the money she owes now, will she?
Diana
I am still laughing at how David just threw the shoes in the trash. I can just see Gabi feeling guilty and going back to retrieve them, unless some homeless person gets to them first.
Deborah is going to be in real big trouble for not sticking with Gabi until she boarded the plane. Adolpho will hit the roof.
Jeri just loved how you wrote the restaurant scene. It was so romantic.
"At the restaurant in L.A., to the beautiful theme song, David and Gabriela sit and speak with their eyes. David covers Gabriela's hand with his own, then lightly caresses her forearm and then her upper arm. Gabriela's eyelids drop, as though his touch were a drug in her veins. David closes his eyes when Gabriela caresses his face. They move closer, each seeking the other's lips, and kiss the first kiss."
Interesting to find out that Marta was also used, without her knowledge, to carry illegal stuff. Wonder if she threw her shoes in the trash as well, lol.
Margaret
Welcome, Enoch. :-) I write the summary and make screen caps from downloads ahead of time. This time slot is just brutal.
Have to agree that Adolfo bungled this project. I'm wondering how many losses he can absorb before the payroll starts thinning.
(No images except avatars can be posted in the comments section as far as I know. Just links.)
Diana, I felt the heat during the kiss scene, LOL. I guess I just had to describe it. It was good; never figured on liking Gabriel Soto, but he's been lovely.
Margaret, that was interesting about Márta's situation! Another piece of the puzzle.
So my question seeing them on their early morning visit to the beach and sexy motorcycle ride through Santa Monica was, did they spend the night together? Was this just one long date where they never went to bed? I got that feeling since Juli was asking for details of the date as they packed up. I for sure don't think they had sex, but seems like there was a night of romance, flirting, talking and making out. The kind of evening/morning you spend with someone you're just starting to fall for. Good for them!
That vein on Adolfo's balding head is going to pop once he finds out Gabi chucked the shoes with the diamonds! Yikes! I don't think Deborah's going to get any Adolfo nookie anytime soon after this error.
So we got another clue about Marta. And Yolanda definitely had a guilty look on her face when Fausto asked her if she knew who killed Marta. It seemed to me that Marta being an unknowing mule for Adolfo's smuggling lead to her death. Hopefully her daughter won't face the same danger/threat she did.
Forget about that loser brother of yours Elsa. Blech!
My question is, if Yolanda was such good friends with Marta and Fausto, and she knows/suspects who killed Marta (espcially if it had to do with Adolfo's dirty business) why would she stay quiet about it all these years? She seems to be a good person at heart, but it seems that she puts money and wealth (even from illegal doings) above friendship and love.
Vivi, did you recognize places around L.A? I haven't lived there for decades. What's the canal? Also, what's the pedestrian area where they tossed the shoes? Just curious, not crucial.
The peso (sign: $; code: MXN) is the currency of Mexico. The peso was the first currency in the world to use the "$" sign, which the United States dollar later adopted for its own use.
The peso is the 12th most traded currency in the world and by far the most traded currency in Latin America and third most traded in all the Americas.
The current ISO 4217 code for the peso is MXN; prior to the 1993 revaluation (see below), the code MXP was used. The peso is subdivided into 100 centavos, represented by "¢". The name was originally used in reference to pesos oro (gold weights) or pesos plata (silver weights).
The literal English translation of the Spanish word peso is weight. As of June 23, 2010, the peso's exchange rate was 12.141 per Canadian dollar, 15.488 per Euro, and 12.658 per U.S. dollar.

Probably as soon as JJ gets out and becomes rich he'll give her the money. Till then she only has to avoid being raped by a) Salomón, b) the lawyer, c) Roberto.

Enoch is nice to see you are part of this one. Remember me from the El Rostro de Analia days?
Don't you just love Julieta? While I think Gabi is gorgeous, Julieta has such a happiness about her. She is charming (and very pretty too!).
"The moral lesson of the episode: girls like fancy shoes but unable to wear them for more than 4 hours."
Ain't it the truth! The prettiest pair of shoes I ever bought turned out to literally be instruments of torture. I wore them once... and couldn't bear to part with them because they were expensive. I kept them for years, then finally gave them to Goodwill.
It's Adolfo's own fault he lost the diamonds. The heels on the shoes didn't need to be so extremely high. Gabi wasn't smuggling chunks of diamond ore, they were cut stones for crying out loud! I get the feeling Felix is the brains behind this outfit and not Adolfo.
Jarocha, I'm happy to hear you and your family are okay after the storm. We had a power outage yesterday night, but nothing as severe as what you went though. Ours was an equipment failure that started a few minutes before LVO came on and lasted all night.
I am enjoying the understated acting in this novela by everyone including E Y's performance. It's quite different from the crazy novelas on in prime time.
I was thinking it was near dinner time when Gaby left with David. Did they have dinner and kiss and then go to the beach where it looked like it was daytime? Color me confused.
Adolfo, was so detailed with the diamonds in the specially designed ugly shoes, but it was foolish to make them unwalkable. Ha, Ha. And unless she's on the FBI's most wanted list, you'd think Adolfo's lover would just take a short hop to Mexico herself. Anyway. she's fired. Beanie time.
Here's hoping Goyo survives and if not, leaves his Preciousss to J J.

Leo for sure took note of Yolanda. He and Bertha are the most observant of all the characters. Always taking in information and filing it away, and looking at people's reactions. I meant to comment yesterday about the revelation that he is a widower, who's wife was murdered, and who has a daughter. So similar to Fausto and more reasons for the two of them to bond. I wondered if there is a connection to his wife's death to all of these other deaths/crimes too. All of the plot lines seemed to be linked, so I'm thinking so.
Good to see you Sue. Hope you can catch up with us from time to time.
The moral, never get a man to buy shoes for a woman, his choice will most probably be impractical. Maybe Adlopho has been watching too many porn movies, lol.
Adolpho has only himself to blame.
GinCA, I was also thinking that Leo recognized Yolanda, and Yolanda was acting so scared instead of being coool.
Margaret
Regarding The Shoes:
I have the superhero ability to fall off my shoes anytime, anywhere. Give me the flattest heels, the driest, smoothest floor and wait for a few hours - I'll stumble at least once. I usually wear flat shoes or small heels - my calves prefer the latter. But Gaby's shoes made me shiver.
Vivi:
about the revelation that he is a widower, who's wife was murdered, and who has a daughter. So similar to Fausto and more reasons for the two of them to bond.
I like that scene, it was an interesting parallel between the two men. They faced the same horrifying experience, the losing of their wifes. But Fausto stayed with his children while Leo had to separate from his daughter. Maybe because he leads a dangerous life.
Welcome back, Sue! :)
I think I must be the only one who didn't like the shoes. I didn't think they looked nice at all. Still, I would have felt really horrible for throwing away the shoes, especially considering that they were new and a gift. It was such a waste, she should have gave them away.
I do agree that Adolfo is at fault here. He should have told her that the clothes and the shoes were a loan, not a gift.
I liked Julieta staying in the room to help her sister.
This is the only time Gabriel Soto has had convincing chemistry with anyone for me and it's so puzzling that it was with Galilea Montijo.
Poor Elsa.
Thanks for the kind words xlntperuvian. I'm glad nothing mayor happened there. I really wish all these crazy happenings would stop. We need to take better care of our planet :(.
Jarocha
I'm curious why you're surprised that the person Gabriel (David) had chemistry with was Galilea (Gabi)? I've never seen her before in another novela, so I don't know anthing about her acting. But I have seen him in Querida Enemiga and Sortilegio, so I know his acting can be wooden at times. He is much better here for sure.
You are from the Dominican Republic -- like Zoe Saldana. Such beautiful people there. ;-) I'm a Star Trek fan.
Margaret and xlnt, I agree; Julie is a kind and generous sister, not jealous at all. I am still thinking of her for Leonardo. He could bring his little girl up from Durango if they got married.
GinCA, you're so right: is it SO hard to make a telenovela where people act halfway normal? Apparently not; we have one here. Why is that so rare. A number of my favorites are like that, such as "Angela." ("Preciousss" LOL)
Jarocha, I am so sorry the rare storm struck your area. I wish all the best for you all. Keep us posted on the progress.
You know, I always used to see Galilea only as a game show hostess; and as she is so beautiful, I always wondered why she never had a telenovela. She does have good chemistry with Gabriel Soto, and I'm glad to see both of them that way.

I saw the lamp; it's a pretty lamp. I don't know if it's significant, but I am beginning to wonder if your points about the bus accident are significant.
Juan José is really torn up about his mother's death; and I can't remember if it was Alejandra's taxi driver who caused it. Would Juan José blame Alejandra if her driver killed his mom?
Adolfo is a schmuck--Doesn't he know they have security screening in LA? Wouldn't the shoes have showed up something strange in the heels when she took them off to go through the X-ray? The TSA went through my checked bags once when I was carrying a jar of applebutter. An employee told me later that's the only thing it could have been as it was too dense for the X-rays to see.
I was confused with the night and day scenes shift on David & Gabi, but you folks made it sound plausible. They weren't due out until an afternoon flight.
Vivi--I'm glad, too, to see Gabriel Soto getting some top-billing lovin' (with an age-appropriate girl). I still think he should have gotten the girl in Querida Enemiga. As for any chemistry with Galilea, my vote is still out. He certainly can't kiss the way William L. and TBLMOE can.
So far I haven't seen anything that would rate this an R or an X--unless it's the violence.
Newbie
I still wonder about her connection to him through the bus accident.
And I hope they get a civil engineer and not an architect for the tunnel excavation for pete's sake. That must be who the handsome guy in the credits is, sitting at the drawing board.
Then in 2002 when Televisa bought the rights to do Big Brother in México they decided to do a VIP version where they invited [forced] several personalities that [had just renewed their exclusivity contracts] wanted to participate. Galilea won and she became BIG for the next few years. She got this novela because Televisa was still cashing in on her popularity, then never went to do another one again. Except for a little cameo on "Hasta Que El Dinero Nos Separe".
That's why I find it odd that instead of getting good chemistry with actresses with bigger acting credits, Gabriel had it with Gali.
Jeri thanks, I hope things will get better in seven days like the authorities say.
Jarocha
I'm watching and recapping Dinero and I see that the producer Larrosa used a lot of the same actors in that as he did here. Many of them are playing completely different roles so it's a bit of a surprise to me every time one of them pops up. I don't remember the cameo Galilea had in Dinero (unless it hasn't happened yet), but there have been SEVERAL beautiful women who have populated Dinero. Lorrosa particularly likes leggy ones. :) The only young woman who hasn't had a leg shot is Claudia Troyo (Julieta in this), and that's because she's known as the skinny one (flacita).
Emilio Larrosa is one of those producers that keeps his actors close for future projects. Just as an example, he has worked with Itatí Cantoral in five novelas "Muchachitas", "Dos Mujeres, Un Camino", "Tu y Yo", "Salud, Dinero y Amor" and Dinero. She even had a cameo in "Soñadoras".
Carlos Bonavides (Ramiro in Dinero) was also in four: "El Premio Mayor", "Salud, Dinero y Amor", "Mujeres Engañadas" and Dinero.
Rodrigo Vidal (Jaime) also four: "Dos Mujeres, Un Camino", "El Premio Mayor", "Amigas y Rivales" and Dinero.
Diana Golden (la generala) was in three: "Mujeres Engañadas", "Las Vias del Amor" and Dinero.
Claudia Troyo takes the cake, she has been in SEVEN novelas with Larrosa: "Mujeres Engañadas", "Amigas y Rivales", "Las Vias del Amor", "Mujer de Madera", "La Verdad Oculta", "Muchachitas Como Tu" and Dinero.
He recycles his actors even more than Carla Estrada.
Jarocha
Karla Greta was awesome. Although those are the most trashy novelas Larrosa has ever made (although very fun and I actually think they are far better than the Amigas y Rivales-Las Vias del Amor Larrosa period)
