La Verdad Oculta EP05 06/09/2010 - Santiago Guzman, You're So Busted

* Ávila residence
From previous episode: Adolfo and Félix discuss the association with the Genovés family and agree that Mario should die before their contract expires.

* prison
Juan José agonizes in his cell. He desperately tells Gregorio that he had so many plans, he wanted to give so many things to Piedad for all the things she did for him.

* Genovés villa
Mario sadly tells Abelardo that after working so hard and so long for the business it would be deeply unjust if Adolfo gained everything. They start to talk about Fausto/Santiago. Abelardo assures him that he can't escape since he's under monitoring 24 hours a day. Abelardo doesn't understand why doesn't Mario report Santiago to the police. If he's the murderer of Marta then Mario could get rid of Adolfo's backmail. Mario says that he considered this possibility but if the investigation was reopened then his son and daughter would become aware of the whole truth.

* Guilléns' flat
Gaby receives an enormous bouquet of flowers. She loves it but when she learns that it's from David she furiously tears his cover letter and states that he only wants to have fun.

Doorbell rings, it's Abelardo looking for Fausto. (Come on man, you spend half your life in that flat, why don't you move in.) The girls leave and the men start the "Mario wants to get acquainted with his daughter. - Forget it, she's my kid I raised her." conversation. Abelardo assures Fausto that Mario doesn't want to tell Gaby the truth, he only wants to get known her. He defenses the interests of his boss so fiercely that Fuasto eventually gives in. He tells him that the girls work in a restaurant called Club Sagitario.

* cemetery
The devastated JJ and Elsa stand next to the grave of Piedad. Elsa cries that what happened was her fault, JJ protests and thanks to her for being so kind to him. They hug and then the guards bring JJ back to the prison.

* prison
JJ visits Marcos who's in detention for having weed. The big guy tells his friend that Piedad died and they discuss Elsa's case again.

* law office
Elsa finally meets the notorious lawyer (another slimebag) who tells her that getting her brother out of the jail will be very difficult, especially if he commits more crimes in the prison. However, the other guy's case is much more promising, he may be released conditionally. Elsa's happy, but not for long. But, of course, the lawyer needs more 25000 pesos. She doesn't have that much money. Okay, then give me what you have and sign debenture of 10000. Elsa agrees.

* David's office
Roberto visits Blondie and begs for a job. He's going to marry Alejandra soon, blahblahblah. And do you have any kind of profession? Not really, but he could be personal assistant. David understands him perfectly: Roberto wants to gain money without making much efforts. He hires Rob but states strictly that he'll have to work hard.

* Guilléns' flat
Julieta and Gaby bring Yolanda to their flat. She continues inquiring and asks if they have a photo of their mother. Unfortunately they don't have any. Fausto arrives home and the air freezes when they recognize each other. She leaves the flat quickly and Fausto starts to yell with the girls for inviting strangers to their home. Doorbell again: Leonardo, the macho police officer from the previous episode came to have a look at one of the empty flats. The neighbour who rents out the apartment had to leave for a while and gave the keys to the girls. Gaby picks up the keys and accompanies Leonardo who can't take his eyes off of her. Fausto learns from Julieta that Yolanda is the friend of Adolfo Ávila, the owner of the Club Sagitario. Daddy's jaw drops.

* Genovés
Mario bitterly confesses to Abelardo that he has inoperable tumor. His servant tells him that Gabriela works in Club Sagitario.

* street
Leonardo likes the flat Gaby showed him and definitely wants to lend it. They shake hands, smile, and he asks her name.

* prison
Elsa visits JJ and fumes over the irresponsibility of Marcos. She tells him the good news: ha may be released soon! JJ is depressed and says that it doesn't matter anymore, nobody waits for him outside. Hey man, open your eyes!

* Alejandra's office
Roberto finally visits his injured lover and brings her his best manners and a bouquet of flowers. Ale isn't impressed and they argue over their last conversation. Ale is fed up with him and says that she doesn't love him. Adios, Roberto. Jerky Jerk begs her to remain friends. She agrees.

*Guilléns' flat
Fausto brings up the notion again of moving to another city. Gaby and Julieta finally agree but Gaby insists on working one more month. They need money and they should prepare the trek properly.

* Ávila residence
Yolanda innocently asks Adolfo what he would do if he found Marta's husband. Adolfo likes the things as they are now, Santiago disappeared and he's fine with that. Why, have you seen him? Yolanda lies, of course she hasn't! Carlos drops in and tries to talk to Daddy about Roberto's job but Adolfo doesn't care about it. Yolanda tries to solace her favourite boy. Carlos doesn't understand why his dad treats him like that, he did everything for him. He did even things he didn't like! The start to talk about Gabriela. She's a lovely, polite girl, but unfortunately David harasses her. Yolanda is surprised: Oh, really?

* Club Sagitario
Blondie tries to engage Gaby in conversation, but she announces that she'll leave in one month and wants peace. David apologizes for his behaviour and says that he didn't want to make fun of her and definitely doesn't care that she doesn't have money. Mario arrives and notices Gaby and David. He rapturously nears to them but is unable to say a word. Gaby excuses herself and leaves.

* Guilléns's flat
Fausto opens the door. Yoland stands on the doorstep with a huge smile on her face. Hi, Santiago. They start to cry and fall in each other's arm. The old friends talk about Gabriela and how much Santiago/Fausto suffered in the past 20 years. Fausto says that maybe he should report himself to the police. Yoland protest, what would happen to his daughters then? Fausto asks her if she believes that he killed Marta.

* Club Sagitario
Gaby brings coffee to Carlos and tells him that she'll quit soon. Carlos is angry and sure that David molested her and that's why she wants to leave. He storms out and starts to yell at Blondie who's talking to his father. Mario calms them and they all four go back to the camera room. Mario asks Gaby why she wants to quit the job. Because their father decided to live in another city.

I'm kind of thrilled for these recaps- I just realized this was on tonight (oh, how I'll miss hearing Chayanne sing "me enamore de ti" after the news!) and am glad I didn't miss that much!

Aribeth: This recap and the pictures were absolutely amazing! You could easily be a professional photographer.

I loved the details and the humor had me smiling away: "(Come on man, you spend half your life in that flat, why don't you move in.)" Excellent!

Gaby and "Blondie" are certainly off to a rocky start. Am thrilled Ale dumped "Jerky Jerk". What a loser. I have absolutely no idea what she saw in him.

Juan finally realized Elsa cares for him. Perhaps it was the fifth or sixth time she clasped his hands! :)

I hope Juan gets released soon and that he and Ale have much more romantic screen time than Juan and Regina. We want more of that dazzling white smile which probably won't be appearing much during his prison stint.

Aribeth and Jeri, your effort on this are greatly appreciated. You are the best!

Diana

Just wanted to pop in to say thank you ahead of time to Aribeth and Jeri. I haven't read the recap yet because I haven't seen the show yet but hopefully will be back later to comment.

Jeri, from yesterday, I am watching llena de amor, hasta que el dinero nos separe and also soy tu duena and now I can't seen to let go of this one. I think I need novelas anonymous.

So, Connie was just telling me she thinks there might be soccerus interruptus tonight.

Apparently STuD is on early, and we are canceled outright.

Is anybody showing that? I never trust DirecTV's schedule short term. They've burned me before.

Lynda, it is so easy to get addicted!

Diana, nice to see you back; hope you had a good holiday weekend.

Erin, I find the Luis Miguel theme song for LVO quite entrancing and unforgettable.

Jeri, I'm still laughing at "soccerus interruptus"! LOL.

I just checked the online TV Guide listings for my ara and it looks like we are pre-empted tonight.

Sigh.

I'm so glad this blog is generating such thoughtful comments (and so many too!). Jeri and Aribeth, it's a strong testament to you both and your wonderful recapping skills.

I'm hoping for more Juan so hoping he gets "sprung" soon.

Diana

I am really enjoying reading the summaries for LVO.

I am watching this on youtube and since my spanish is very basic these summaries are really helping me understand what is going on.

Great job recappers and thank you.

Anon, so great to see you and hear you're enjoying the show. :-)

Thank you for the kind comments! We're happy that the show has many viewers despite being in the horario de la muerte.

Diana: Hola, dear! :)
and that he and Ale have much more romantic screen time than Juan and Regina

Well, there must be a reason why this show is considered being a soft-porn. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. :)

I'm still amazed at the writing. I mean, this is a telenovela. A Larrosa telenovela! But it's intelligent,

Lynda:
I think I need novelas anonymous.

LOL! So true.
For many years my method of watching telenovelas is fastforwarding the scenes and storylines that I find boring. I follow only the story of the protagonists and a few interesting side characters. This makes my life easier. :))

So true.
-> I mean I also should visit a TN Anonymus Club frequently. :)

Aribeth, thank you for the excellent recap and the pics. I think I understand the gist of things but your recaps fill in the details with a sense of humor. And, Jeri, thanks for all the extras with the scheduling. I think I might enjoy some extra beauty sleep tonight.

I am loving the Big Guy's performance, the writing , the acting, the only thing....please, please Lord, let Blondie and Gaby NOT be related especially half sibs. Yuck. With the convoluted plot, the writers should be able to devise a scenario where Blondie (since I have forgotten his name) was adopted or found or something else, please.

Poor Elsa, she's in love in vain. I am anxiously awaiting the first encounter between J J and Ale. Probably love at first sight as in most novelas. and who wouldn't with J J.

GinCA

Aribeth and Jeri, thanks!! I forgot with the holiday that LVO was on, but I did catch your'e recap. Thanks for all the info, it really helps when I watch it on tv or youtube especially since I can't always get captions. I have a limited language understanding, but with your'e retelling of the TN you capture it all and then some. It sounds like maybe Juan will be getting out of jail soon.

Thanks Aribeth for another great recap. I really enjoy the way you break it out by location, as we have so many in this novela! I also love the pictures.

I think more and more that David is not Mario's blood child (as opposed to Mario being wrong about Gabi being his) because he didn’t seem worried/horrified that David was chatting her up. If I was Gabi, I’d be getting freaked out by all of these people’s sudden interest in me. I mean, she’s hot and fills out her jeans very well, and I’m sure she’s used to getting male attention (original creepy boss, David, Carlos, Roberto, Leo), but it’s now also super old guys (Mario) and old ladies (Yolanda) staring at her, asking her questions about her life and getting all in her business.

Glad that it turned out that Yolanda and Fausto/Santiago (Faustiago??) were happy to see each other. He needs a friend, and right now the only person who knows who he really is Mario. And he does not trust Mario, has bad blood with him over Marta, and is scared he’s going to turn him in and/or steal his child’s affections.

Poor JJ and Elsa. The lawyer turns out to be another creep (as I thought he would). But he seems more interested in stealing Elsa’s money than in getting into her virginal pants. That actor last played Romina’s slimy deadbeat dad in ENDA. JJ either needs to tell Elsa he has zero interest in her romantically, but acknowledge that she IS his family now. Or give the girl some hope.

So glad that Ale dumped Roberto. We could see that coming from a mile away. Not sure why she ever dated him in the first place. She must have been desperate. Maybe he was an amusing distraction while her mom was ill? Now David can rescind that job offer. Yay! Let him go mooch off someone else.

Lynda- I'm in the same boat as you, watching the same shows, including being a Dinero recapper. I love Dinero, and I love FC (hence Dueña), and this show has totally pulled me in with its mysteries and good writing/directing (so far). I've decided that Llena de Amor is the one that has to be lowest on the totem pole. The story hasn't grabbed me yet, so I read the recaps and occasionally watch the show. I get my news and world events by having the radio and computer on NPR all day at work, and by reading the major stories online and in my Sunday paper (so no need to watch news on tv). The only English language show I'm watching is Mad Men. And with the dvr, I get to catch up with the novelas on the weekend for evenings when I'm out. Still, I feel guilty about this 3-4 hours a week-day of tv. Good thing these aren't on during weekends!

Aribeth, great summary!

The scenes with JJ in his cell then at the grave were heartbreaking and totally believable. First the private grief, then the anger. EY is playing this character so well, understated but powerful.

I liked the scene where the federal agent Leonardo meets Gabi. He was certainly checking out her backside!

I can't decide whether Carlos is a total sleezebag or if there is some good there. I wonder what happened to his mother? We haven't heard anything about Adolfo's wife have we??

After this episode I have a strong feeling that Carlos is reedemable. (However, after sseing the downfall of Renatonto Vidal I can't be sure about anything. :))

I raise my hat to Héctor Ortega, he portrays Mario (level-headed, clever, charismatic and enigmatic) and Fausto (nervous, broken but kind and likeable) absolutely differently. He plays with his voice perfectly. Mario has a slow, deep voice while Fausto's speech is quicker and he stutters all the time.

Vivi:

Not sure why she ever dated him in the first place.

Good question. I agree with this idea: Maybe he was an amusing distraction while her mom was ill? He's funny somehow. With his gawkiness he often reminds me of my beloved Gaius Baltar from Battlestar Galactica.

OT, I loved the first season of Mad Men. It's such a high quality show. Btw, Jon Hamm and John Slattery are hot as hell, and Christina Hendricks is my girlcrush since Firefly.

That business with Yolanda is eccentric; Gabriela and Julieta are biddable, though. Their father raised them to be obedient.

I'd like to see Valentino Lanus in a good role; I tried Llena, Innocente de Ti, Amar Sin Limites; and I watched all of Tontas.

First time I saw him was in La Casa en la Playa, where he was gorgeous; but my favorite role of his is still Alborada, where he unfortunately got whacked.

Mad Men is about our favorite US show. We always wait and buy the Blurays when they come out after the season is over.

Currently, though, we finally bought a region-free player and have been glomming onto the BBC's "Ashes to Ashes," which was the awesome sequel to the original awesome "Life on Mars." Philip Glenister is the bomb.

Oh, yeah, I have been curious about Agent Leonardo, too; who is he going to wind up with, I'm wondering. Julieta needs somebody.

Who could she wind up with. There are a few people in the credits we haven't met yet, too.

Thanks Aribeth for the recap. Gabi sure is turning heads huh. How many guys are interested in her now LOL.

So it seems LVO is doing well in its midnight time slot. I'm looking forward to those love scenes I keep hearing so much about. Let's hope Uni doesn't butcher them too badly.

On a sidenote, I hope EY and AA work together again in another novela. I really liked their chemistry. They certainly burned up the screen.

"The scenes with JJ in his cell then at the grave were heartbreaking and totally believable. First the private grief, then the anger. EY is playing this character so well, understated but powerful." I agree Xlntperuvian. I know at the time when he won the award for this role there was some controversy but IMO he deserved it. His acting in this so far has been phenomenal. He's really chewing up his scenes.

"I liked the scene where the federal agent Leonardo meets Gabi. He was certainly checking out her backside!" I was LOLing in that scene.

I checked the listings for tonight and LVO isn't coming on.

CS short version project update:
The first 10 (=26) episodes are up.

I first saw Valentino Lanús in Alborada and I developed a crush on him. However, I can't care for his other telenovelas... Except Amar sin limites, I'm curious about that show. The remake of the Argentinian Resistiré with Karyme Lozano as a heroine? Giveittome! :)

I thought Amar Sin Limites looked kind of modern and interesting. It has a vibe kind of like LVO.

It's playing immediately after LVO on Univision in late night.

Jeri, that's funny. Amar Sin Limites was on immediately after CS in my area. It apparently finished up and now we have another TN - I can't recall the name of it right now.

I'm using the national Univision feed (east coast) on DirecTV; last time I saw it was Amar Sin Limites. But it could have changed in the last few days.

Looks like Tontas started.

But the strange thing on the DirecTV schedule is that LVO only plays through Friday.

And then starting Monday, they are showing Corazón Salvaje the whole week of 9/13.

What do other people show for next week at the midnight time slot on Univision?

I checked elsewhere online, and they are showing LVO like usual at midnight on 9/13.

Cannot trust DirecTV. Thank goodness I still had my season pass for CS in there.
