El Clon Tuesday October 5: Summary for Discussion

Capítulo 164: We are officially in las últimas semanas and as you might expect, everything is looking very bleak. Marisa seems to have survived Natalia’s attack, but to judge from her increasingly irrational behavioral, she may have suffered brain damage. At Said’s house, Paradise is Found. And Lost.
  • Is Gloria in danger from crazy Paula?
  • Has Pablo really been Maliciated?
  • Is Latifa too late to rescue her Mohamed from his own stupidity?

Tune in tomorrow…

At home, Albieri escapes from Luisa’s vigilance by telling her he’s going to buy a newspaper.

At Cris’s bar, Dora tells Vicki she won’t be attending Cris’s wedding – after all she’s marrying the man who’s trying to take Dora’s son away. Vicki encourages Dora to find happiness with Miguel and not to wait for some Karla to snatch him away. And Osvaldo is history, she says. A rey muerto, rey puesto! (The king is dead! Long live the king!)

Albieri joins Girl Reporter, Amalia, at a restaurant. He announces: Quiero hablar contigo sobre el clon. (I want to talk to you about the clone.)

Said gets home from his Chicago trip to find the household fairly calm. Samira and Amin are with Jadiya and they are anxious to tell him what has been happening. Rania, Amina and Jade come downstairs and have no bloody scratches on their faces.

The Naz tells Said she has in fact turned his home into a paradise by her strong leadership.

Dora tries to talk Daniel out of going to Casa Ferrer, but he is set on visiting Rosa and Natalia. After he leaves, Estela tells her daughter that arguing with him will just make him more determined to be with those people.

Cris is at home looking at dresses in a magazine and chatting happily with Vicki about the wedding. She wants her dress to be a daring choice, something unexpected.

Natalia, still sporting her new Unabomber look, is back at the Casa Ferrer. Lucas comes home, learns that Natalia is there and asks Marisa: ¿Ya te pidió disculpas? (Did she apologize to you?) Marisa admits that Natalia said nothing. Lucas becomes furious and storms upstairs. He slaps her hard across the cheek. ¡Basta! ¡Ya no más! He has had it with her. She in turn is outraged that he raised a hand to her and threatens to call the police. Go ahead, he says, and you can tell them where you got your drugs. I forbid to raise your hand to anyone in this house, he tells her. Si lo haces, te encierro! (If you do it, I’ll lock you up.) And even though it hurts me, if you continue like this, I will have to turn my back on you.

When Lucas leaves the room, Natalia complains to Rosa that Lucas hates her and blames her for his unhappiness.

Lucas tells Marisa, waiting downstairs, that Natalia is completely out of control. (Está descontrolada!) She has gone too far. [Duh!]

Leo walks in on the scene and asks Marisa how the wound (la herida) is. The wound is fine, she says: Lo que me duele es el alma. (What hurts me is my soul./My heart is breaking)

On the Pass Along the Misery Theory, Lucas turns on his father and wants to know how he can think of getting married at a time like this. Leo tells him he needs to go on living his life.

Snoopy Ramón knows that the owner of the apartment Alej and Natalia were subletting is now threatening to complain to the police if Alej doesn’t make good on the stuff the druggies robbed. Alej is going out to try to fix things and warns Ramón not to tell Gloria anything – he’ll knock his teeth out if he does! As soon as Alej leaves, Gloria skillfully extracts the truth from Ramón by making a similar threat (What is it with these people and my teeth? wonders Ramón)

After trying and failing to get money out of her family, Natalia is ready to leave again. Lucas runs after her shouting that if she leaves, she can just stay in the street. At that moment, Daniel comes walking up the driveway and Natalia throws herself into his arms. She’s afraid Lucas is going to hit her, she says. You leave her alone! says Daniel. And he looks accusingly at Lucas. You are not my father, says Natalia to Lucas. To Daniel she says: No soporto más! (I can’t take any more!)

When Lucas goes back inside, Rosa tells him his father wants to talk to him. Let him call the clone, (que le llame al clon) answers Lucas bitterly. Nevertheless, he joins his father and Marisa. It’s time to make a decision, Leo declares, and it’s incumbent upon Lucas to do so since he is Natalia’s father. Marisa suggests that Natalia is acting out because she feels they are rejecting her. But we’ve been at her beck and call 24 hours a day, says Leo.

No, listen, says Marisa. We should reward her for her insufferable behavior, the felony assaults and robberies and drugs. Let’s show our trust in our out-of-control wildly aggressive cocaine-crazed daughter by buying her a new car!

Back at the restaurant, Gloria tells Alej that she knows all about the apartment furnishings. She’s not going to let him continue paying for Natalia’s mistakes. He should go to the gym to train – she’ll take care of it.

Pablo gets to Not Really Malicia’s apartment and asks her right away why she said she was on a business trip. He knows it was a pleasure trip. And Malicia begins maliciating:
Whoever told you that is lying, she says. Rogelio had confidential business in Paris – so confidential that even Zein doesn’t know the details. But go ahead and call him and he can tell you that what I’m saying is true. Of course I’d lose my job for revealing confidences…but that’s not important. All I did in Paris was think of you.
And Pablo says: And all I did was think of you. Discúlpame, he says. Perdón. (But there is something hard in the set of his jaw that makes me think he hasn’t been totally maliciated. We’ll see.)

At the clinic, Escobar listens as Anita tells Julio that Malicia is back. And guess what? Julio smiles and guesses: ¿Sedujó al jefe? (She seduced her boss?) Yes.

Clara is back at her post at Empresas Ferrer. She and Caro have also heard the news. And no, she tells her friend, Rogelio hasn’t called.

Albieri is at the clinic. He tells someone on the phone that he’ll be there in an hour. Luisa and Padre Andres overhear him and Luisa wants to know who he’s meeting. The Mendelsons, old friends and colleagues, geneticists who are in Miami for just a brief time, he says. In his office, he admits to Andres that he lied to Luisa; in fact he’s going to meet with a journalist. He wants to get a sense of her work. So you’ve decided to go public? asks Andres. Albieri insists that is not the case. Not yet.

Marisa and Rosa are chatting about the new car for Natalia (the clinical term would be folie à deux, I believe -- two people sharing the same delusion or madness) when Gloria arrives at Casa Ferrer demanding to speak to Natalia’s father or mother. Right now!

Gloria tells Marisa that Natalia emptied and then sold absolutely everything from the apartment she was sharing with Alejandro. Now the owner wants be be reimbursed and even though the furnishings were used, he wants to be paid as if they were new.

Dora is just leaving her apartment for work when Daniel asks if he can bring Natalia to meet her. She’s really nice, he tells Dora. Her father treats her very badly – I had to protect her today. Dora’s not thrilled with the idea but finally gives her consent.

When Dora leaves, Daniel goes to his room, and veil in hand, daydreams about Jade and the kiss they shared in the ruins.

Unfortunately, Paradise has been Lost at Said’s house. Jade: Don’t treat me like a maid! Rania: That’s exactly what you are in this house, a maid for Jadiya! Said comes home before they have escalated to the hair-pulling, eye-scratching stage.

At Mohamed’s house we are treated to the two faces of the Naz: First she gives Farid a tongue-lashing for letting Latifa leave. Then, when Samira asks her if she thinks her father will take a second wife, she turns maternal and comforting: No, she answers. He adores your mother.

Luisa is getting anxious. What’s taking Albieri so long? She has Anita look up the telephone number of the Mendelsons.

We know what’s taking so long – Albieri is lecturing Amalia on stem cells and their potential use for organ replacement.

Anita has called the Mendelsons. They aren’t even in Miami!

And Albieri and Amalia continue their conversation. No, no hice un clon (No, I didn’t make a clone) he says. Usted podría hacerlo? (You could do it?) she asks. You mean do I have the knowledge, the technique – well yes, I know how to do it, boasts Albieri.

Natalia and Paula are hanging around a pool close to Gloria’s place. Nati wants to go find Alej. Paula will wait for her.

Luisa gets home. Albieri’s not there.

Gloria comes home pleased with the outcome of her visit to the Ferrers. Ya lo solucioné todo. (Now I’ve fixed everything.) she tells Alej. She gave them the apartment owner’s number and they will deal with him directly. They paid her for her chairs. After all, I won’t sanction anyone’s vices. (alcahuetear: to act as a pimp, procurer; to cover up).

Natalia arrives on the scene and wants to talk to Alejandro. Is Paula with you? Gloria asks. Yes, she’s right over there, close by. Gloria goes off to look for her, determined to take care of all her business at once. [This makes me very nervous. Gloria is tough and smart but Paula is vicious and crazy and carries a knife. You writers better not let anything happen to Gloria!]

Enrique PSA about using drugs to avoid the difficulties in life.

Nati and Alej talk. She tells him she is alone and everyone is against her. No, he says, I’m here for you and I always will be.

The final scene takes place in Fez. Latifa has arrived and is schlepping her suitcase towards Alí’s house. Inside, they are waiting for the comerciante Yaser and his daughter Zuleika to arrive. Zoraida says to Alí: Abdul está tan contento, parece que él es el novio. (Abdul looks so happy you’d think he was the groom.) The actual novio, however, looks miserable. ¿Por qué Ala me permitió hacer eso? (Why did Allah allow me to do this?) Mohamed no quiere casarse con una segunda esposa. (Mohamed doesn’t want to marry a second wife.) You brought it on yourself, says Alí, and there’s nothing I can do about it now.

NovelaMaven great recap of a WTF episode!

I don't know about the rest of you but it's official these writers every last single one of them working on this novela are doing some hard drugs to come up with this nonsense.

I couldn't even believe Marisa suggestion was to get her drugged addicted daughter who had just violently brained her a brand new shiny car as a solution to her problem. Really i had to find the strongest drink possible after hearing that nonsense. It's time for them to end this novela because the stupidity that is going on in it may just be contagious.

Clara was she really expecting Rogelio to call her? He left with the skank on her trip and even slept with the skank.

Albieri i don't care i hope he exposes his own self to Amalia.

Lucas i don't care grow up and get a set.

Pablo well i'm not going to be tricked again i believe it when i see it if he's on to the skanky rat.

Mohamed whether you're talking to yourself about not wanting a second wife. You should have thought about that long and hard before "Pimp Daddy Abdul" set you up.

Blusamurai. Lucas is the only one who's actually doing anything about Natalia while Marisa, Leonardo and Mama Rosa are treating the situation too casually. Consider this,

A - When Lucas arrived from Fes after he left Jade, he immediately went looking for her and found her on the street. He brought her home, wasn't judgmental and promised her he would help her out with Alejandro. Lucas may have suspected that this situation may been brought about by Marisa's opposition to Alejandro.

B - He literally drags her out of a club all drugged up and got bitten in return.

C - After the club scene in "B", she leaves the following day and gets drugged up again. When she returns, Lucas locks her up in her room by installing new locks. Natalia then proceeds to have an anxiety attack and threatens to kill herself. When Lucas hears that, he calls an ambulance to come take her away over Marisa's protest. He's left heartbroken when he hears her call for him when they're taking her away.

D - In this latest scenario where Natalia hits her mother over the head with a crystal figurine, Natalia comes home from her latest drug binge looking desperately for anything she can sell or drugs she may have had hidden. When Lucas arrives, he asks Marisa whether Natalia said sorry to her. No she didn't and what does Lucas do. He goes upstairs and smacks the crap out of her. He's like what, you hit your mother, you crazy little girl. Know what I mean. And trust me, that look in his eyes showed her he's dead serious about locking her up if necessary. While Lucas is trying to knock some sense into Natalia, Marisa is offering to buy her car. Huh?

No, Blusamurai. You've got it all wrong. Lucas is the only one in the house treating this problem very seriously. He's the only one with balls in the house.

Great recap, NovelaMaven, of another frustrating episode.

What is Albieri up to? How can he start the conversation by saying, 'I want to talk to you about the clone?' and then say that he hasn't made a clone?

So Marisa's solution is to Nati's problem is to buy her a car? That's smart. Then she can get drugged up and drive under the influence, drive to the scary drug place or even sell the car to get more drugs.

The Naz's dictatorship is like Chinese food - it works great but an hour later they're at each other's throats again.

I hope Gloria is ok. It is crazy to go after Paula and her big knife alone.

Pablo joins the ranks of the Chumps. It was very disappointing to see him accept Malicia's explanation.

Anon you're entitled to your opinion but i am sticking with mine ok. When i say Lucas needs to grow a set it does not mean it has anything to do with the Nati situation at all.

Jean i was thinking the same thing about Gloria she just should have called the cops and said she was in the area. I forgot that's idea is just too lucid and not tripping on drugs logical.

Blusamurai, what do you mean? Can you write a comparable list like I did. Explain yourself so we all can perhaps learn something we may have missed or known. Thanks.

Listen i'm not going to write a comparable list for you ok while i am watching this novela i am not so in love with as you are. OK i am not going to spend the next several minutes explaining how i feel to satisfy you either others come on here see what they are going to see from a story. You have your pov fine be happy with it and move on just like i have mine. End of story.

Blusamurai, your opinions are always welcome here. Please keep 'em coming!

Anon, your comments about the show are also welcome; but your less than friendly tone -- not so much. And as Blu has said, End of Story.

Hey Jean, what a LOL line --
"The Naz's dictatorship is like Chinese food - it works great but an hour later they're at each other's throats again."

So you think Pablo has "joined the ranks of the chumps"? Well maybe, like Marisa, I'm in denial, but I am still not convinced he is buying into her story -- a story which, you have to admit, it wildly improbable. Ay, what am I saying? A wildly improbable story is exactly what he's likely to believe! :)

NovelaMaven i also love Jean's Chinese food comparison to the Naz's dictatorship LOL:)

As for Pablo ok i have to admit a small part of me wants to believe he's not falling for her act this time also. I'm hoping to see if he'll go to her job and see for himself what type of relationship she now has with Rogelio.Or better yet run into the main Chump and put two and two together. Can i say how enjoyable that look on his face was after overhearing Julio and Anita talk about Malicia's latest new Chump. He deserved it from how nasty he was to Clara last week.

I'm just so worried for Gloria and Alej. i know he loves Nati and all but to allow your mother to confront a major druggie who has already robbed her store with a big knife. Whatever are you thinking? I need a another drink but it's too early where i live at.I'll put it on standby i'm sure i am going to need a stiff drink for tonight's episode too.

NovelaMaven, thanks once again. I know some of these are harder to recap than other, so thanks.

I totally agree with Blu and I love Jean's comment about the Chinese food and the Naz.

The Naz has been so great with the children I am really sorry that the writers did not give her a husband and lots of little ones.

Rosemary

I’m confident that Gloria can stand up to any danger Paula poses. Throughout the chapters, I’ve gotten the feeling that Alej and Gloria come from a school of hard knocks, and know a bit about drug addiction. Someone’s gotta stand with Lucas against los drogados. (Note to Marisa: this entails withholding privileges, not granting them.)

The Corteses are both tough, fearless cookies; I wouldn’t be surprised if Mama is packing some heat herself (a la Tyler Perry’s Madea). Dale mambo, Gloria!

Apart from Lucas delivering a well-deserved slap to his daughter, thus far, he is just the weakest/spineless galan ever. I honestly wouldn't want him to end up w/ Jade. He is just a total turn off. He and Marisa deserve each other.

Ah MrsImgallego i read your comment the other day about this novela being deplorable at first i kind of disagreed with you but the more these writers keep writing these characters like this i am very seriously starting to see your point of view.I'm still waiting for our HRH novelas to start or the new season of Mujeres Asesinas 3 for the episode he stars in with Belinda.

Question for those who are watching El Clon if you have seen FELS how does it compare to that one? I can't comment myself since i never saw FELS, but from the comments others have sad about that novela.I have to wonder if this one is reaching FELS territory?

NovelaMaven, great job!

I'm back to my earlier sick-of-Luisa position. The priest had it right when he commented that she was "controlling". She's BSC obsessed with Albieri and has been from the beginning. I feel like screaming every time she tries to find the "mad scientist" and he's gotten away from her again.

Loved "sporting the Unibomer look", NovelaMaven. Perfect.

I'm not so fed up with the novela as some of you are. I'm tired of the drug PSA's, but lately there's been some interesting scenes. I gotta say I enjoyed Lucas's slap to the Drug Princess. Of course, she's supposed to be like every addict, completely on a downhill slide. But she has a special element of "Little Rich Girl". I think she feels confident that she'll always be able to come back home and have the wherewithall to keep up her habit.

Marisa's plan about the car is beyond lunacy.

Another good thing about the episode was being spared a scene with the SkanK and Hilda.

I don't think anything really bad will happen to Gloria. She's a classic TN character - the person who's risen up from poverty and done it all with her own two hands. These characters are nearly always presented as morally superior to the rich characters. Doubtless this is to keep the millions of less-than-affluent viewers comforted.

Lucas needs to get over himself about the clone. Of course, Nati was just manipulating Daniel by saying she was being maltreated. But it doesn't do any good for Lucas to sulk. There isn't anything he can do about Nati's relationship with Daniel.

Thanks for another fun one NM, for another frustrating episode. You and Jean have the patience of two saints---each! I especially liked "no bloody scratches on their faces" and the "Unibomber look." (By the way, it's 'Unabomber' for some reason; also 'folie à deux'. Don't mind me; I'm in editing mode for work reasons.) I also liked "the two faces of the Naz." This is one of the interesting things about her. Many characters have dashed our good expectations and made us give up hope, while with others we have bad expectations they briefly overcome before disappointing us again. But with the Naz you know what you're getting: half maniac, half sweetheart. You may not enjoy the storm, but it's not a disappointment, and sometimes there's a rainbow bonus. (Excuse the cheesy metaphor.)

Some things I enjoyed: The discussion with Anita and Julio about Malicia was kind of amusing. At least someone is having fun with this.

Nazira is apparently quite the odalisque-tamer. The animals were surprisingly tame, at least when she was around.

One slightly charming thing about that was Alejo and Gloria independently gave exactly the same threat to Ramoncito.

It was also slightly nice to see Zoraida chastising Alí for his role in Mohamed's impending marriage. (Damn, Alí, you failed us again. You used to be one of the good guys.)

And way to go Gloria... I think. Does she really think Nati's family will call the landlord on their own? Hopefully she threatened to go to the police. Scandals are the only thing los Ferrer care about.

On the bad list... well, just the highlights. Why did Nati stick with Daniel? I thought she was urgently searching for things to sell for drug money, so wouldn't she run off to get drugs? Also... stupid question, but why didn't Lucas yell out, "Natalia beat the snot out of her mother and now she's running away to get drugged up," or maybe, "Hey Daniel, just make sure she doesn't get into trouble, OK?"

Anon 4:41: nice defense of Lucas, though he has made some mistakes, namely letting Natalia run off to buy drugs, and not reporting her various crimes. Also, let's keep it friendly.

Novelera: nice point about Gloria's role in the show.

Come on Pablo! Sense evil!

NovelaMaven, you rock! Thanks for recap.

Marisa is not only stupid, in denial, and delusional but maybe she needs another smack to align her brain cells. How awful! If I had smacked my mother like that, I'm pretty sure I would get death, not a car.

I like that Lucas yelled at Natalia and threatened to call the cops on her.

Dona Gloria, Dona Gloria, you are my idol. She has balls of steel to go to the Ferrer household and demand payment.

I can't wait for Dona Gloria to go confront Paula. Is it too much to ask that Paula freaks, slips into the pool and semi-drowns? If that is too harsh, maybe Paula can detox all by herself in jail.

Vitriol Quazi in MD

Blusamurai - LOL! I have to laugh now at this simply utterly ridiculous tn; months and months and months on the merry-go-round, and now at ultimas semanas, we're still not off the ride, or not even a slow-down. are they gonna pack-in all the good stuff in 1week? if it at least had HRH in it, maybe it would ease the nausea a bit. btw, he'll also be in 2 upcoming tns - El triunfo del amor and Cuna de Lobos.

Thanks everybody!

Too harsh, Vitriol Quazi? Not for me! I had the same thought when the unlovely Paula was left alone at the pool.

Luke, All fixed. Thanks! "Nazira is apparently quite the odalisque-tamer." Hahaha. So true.

And I won't be fitted for a halo any time soon. Like you and Novelera, I still find a lot to like in this novela. Even when we are mucking along in the Slough of Despond, it's still more interesting to me than just about anything made by Televisa. (So to answer your earlier question, Blusamurai, I think this novela is a bazillion times better than FELS. Conservatively speaking, of course. Not to mention everyone's comments on El Clon-- they alone are worth the price of admission!)

I also LIKE that Lucas is at once a little too self-involved and pettish about Daniel and yet touchingly heroic about dealing with Natalia.

But enough. I get to sound off plenty in the recaps.

Vitriol Quazi in MD - responding to your comment yesterday about the Naz; yes, her genuine fondness for the nieces/newphew is lovely. I really like that she's funny too. Now when is she gonna get her just dessert (un hombre)? She deserves one. She, and maybe a couple others (Said and Zein are hot), are the only saving grace.

I'd also love to see the Naz get what's coming to her (in the best way, and perhaps the worst too). But I think she's as invisible to the writers as she is to the men in her family.

(Can I get a show with just Gloria, Nazira, and maybe Cristina and Zoraida? Having adventures?)

NovelaMaven: what's the "price of admission"? This is free, right? :) Or maybe you mean the price is sitting through a frustrating show, in which case I agree. Sometimes being able to talk about something is the only worthwhile thing about experiencing it. (And this show, while far from great, also has moments that are in themselves worth watching.)

Luke,

"(Can I get a show with just Gloria, Nazira, and maybe Cristina and Zoraida? Having adventures?)"
-- You mean like "Alí's Angels"?

'what's the "price of admission"? This is free, right? :)'
-- uh... yeah... :)

NovelaMaven: Alí's Angels!!!!!
Priceless!!!!
