La Verdad Oculta #032: Passing like two ships in the night
At the beach house, Gabriela anxiously insists Carlos return home with her, and he makes a show of it; while on their way out, lecherous Félix licks his lips at Gabriela's departing backside. Meanwhile at Mario's, Roberto demonstrates the truth of his story by putting David on the extension phone while Yolanda confirms it.
Furious David commits phonicide, vowing to make Gabriela pay; and at the beach house she and Carlos have returned in failure, with her frantic at his story that the plane has engine problems and can't be fixed until daylight tomorrow.
Back at Mario's Roberto busily slanders the waitresses, claiming Julieta expected him to marry her, which David grasps onto as the same supposed ploy Gabriela used. Roberto claims both are gold diggers and feigns sympathy that David really fell in love with her; whereas Carlos just wants to play around and is having better luck -- no telling how, he adds for nasty effect.
Juan José visits Elsa at home, and she's impatient with him. He apologizes and continues with his clueless effort to share his good fortune with her, to get back that family feeling of brother and sister -- which enrages Elsa. She wants nothing of his and screams at him she's not his sister. Not his sister! Not!
At the condo, Adolfo phones Deborah in L.A. to insist she come to the D.F. to examine the stones they recovered. Yolanda enters and explains the jeweler, Dominguez, said the young man never returned; and she learns to her dismay that Adolfo had the girls' apartment ransacked. They have friends in the police! she objects.
In a much nicer tone, Mauricio Medina visits Elsa next; and she's excited to see him. They sit together on the love seat, where he surprises her with news that Juan José used the Ocampo name to hide his identity from Alejandra -- and Mauricio didn't like it.
He's not going to spill the beans, though; Mauricio realizes being framed for murder is a terrible injustice; and though he's concerned about Alejandra, he's not involved with her family at all. Somebody had to pay that pair of scum bags to try to frame Juan José again, and Mauricio wonders who.
At that moment, Juan José paces the hotel room until he determines to pick up the phone -- and call Mario Genovés! Mario is glad to talk to him and wants to help him, which almost completely disarms Juan José. He admits he doesn't know what he wants and just thought to forget it all and start over.
He doesn't know what Mario could possibly do for him, he says; and notes cynically he sees how time has given Mario pause to regret. Mario wants to see him in person, but Juan José wonders if he wants to. Don't call Juan José; he'll call Mario.
On hanging up, Mario tells Abelardo how sad Juan José sounds and becomes mired in regret, weeping pitifully over the mistakes of his life. He relates his talk with Dora and her version implicating Carlos, illuminating Abelardo of Juan José's innocence; regrets the injustice against Santiago and abandoning Gabriela; regrets putting David in Adolfo's clutches.
Abelardo tries to soothe an inconsolable Mario, who reiterates Santiago must complete his part of the bargain. And at that moment Santiago weeps alone away from home, dwelling on the sadness of the nightmare of Márta's death and the separation from his adored daughters and wonders what will happen.
At the beach house, Félix privately demands Carlos return with Gabriela; Adolfo's going to hate this! He practically kidnapped her. Irritated Carlos tries to placate a distressed Gabriela. He stresses it's not their fault they're stuck; but she's fearful what, er -- people -- will think.
At Juan José's hotel suite, Asunción counsels him through teeth full of sunflower seeds that if he wants to make Elsa happy, he should deep six the architect. But Juan José explains he's keeping Alejandra close because of her family; and he confides he talked to Mario -- who seemed ready to admit his guilt. He's going to meet with him, Juan José decided.
Carlos gets a tearful Gabriela to admit he was only trying to help her find Julieta; but when he tries to move in, she's having nothing of it and runs off. At that point Carlos follows and apologizes and grabs Félix to come with him, exiting the beach house.
Meanwhile, David's drowning his sorrows in alcohol and torturing himself by phoning Julieta only to learn Gabriela's absent. After a hasty hangup, Bertha enters and -- seeing David's moment of weakness -- decides to rattle the doorknob to see if he'll let her in. He doesn't look away.
Julieta can't raise Leonardo at his place, and Roberto gives bad news on the phone about Gabriela whereabouts at the beach house with Carlos. Just then, Carlos arrives back at the beach house and hauls Gabriela off with the news that the plane is miraculously fixed. At Adolfo's, he's agitated to learn from Yolanda where his son is and with whom.
When Gabriela returns, a greatly relieved Julieta informs her Santiago's plans changed back again. But Gabriela's angry at her and despairs over David possibly learning of her plight. Julieta's repentant, admitting she was a fool about Roberto.
At the hotel, David consults with an employee, Mr. Gama, about a stolen jewels claim; they recall an earlier case of "imaginary" stolen jewels cooked up by some celebrity and want to make sure that's not happening again. They make their rounds to check on a couple things.
Adolfo braces a clueless Carlos at the breakfast table and orders he leave that particular woman the hell alone. He claims it's because she's an employee, and Carlos completely fails to understand Adolfo's meddling in his private life.
Adolfo reminds him again what an idiot he is, that her family is friends with the police; and Carlos assures him sadly there's nothing between him and Gabriela -- and is perplexed to be questioned whether she was curious about Félix.
In the sack at the cheap hotel, Susana counsels Marcos to find another jeweler and that the diamonds won't last forever -- to which he replies for that reason he's buying a cargo truck. Then they return to business to make up for lost time.
David makes a disconcerting visit to Gabriela's, strangely calm. She doesn't understand why he frankly asks her to go with him on a business trip, when she thought he already knew she doesn't do things like that.
He questions her about what she was doing while he was gone and whether she thought about him the whole time. After he exits, Gabriela admits to Julieta she suspects David learned she was with Carlos.
Roberto meets Alejandra at her office to try to force their relationship again, but she's had it with him. He's just not taking no for an answer, even though she plainly says no.
On exiting her building at street level, Roberto's just having trouble with his cell phone reception -- as Juan José pulls up in a taxi and drops cash on the side walk. Because of their mutual preoccupations, the accused murderer and the true murderer pass within a few feet of each other, without meeting.

Carlos and Roberto haven't changed a bit over the years, if anything they have gotten worse.
Medina was terrific, again. Hopefully, Elsa will get over JJ and give Medina a chance.
Mario was really sad thinking about his past. What is the deal with Bertha? The girl needs a real job.

I really hope Gabi tells the story to Leo and mentions the one-eyed man. That will surely make the connection in Leo's mind with the leader of the black market gang he's been looking for.
David looks like he's gearing up to do and say some REALLY stupid things out of jealousy and anger. Gabi should have just come right out and said to him that Carlos and Roberto tried to trick her and her sis into overnight trips. Even if he continued to get mad and be stupid, at least her conscience would be clear.
An exceptional, thoughtful summary.
Jeri, your recap not only set the tone but was word perfect in describing all of last night's eventful occurrences. "lecherous Félix licks his lips at Gabriela's departing backside", "phonicide", and my favorite: "Bertha enters and...decides to rattle the doorknob to see if he'll let her in". :)
There was much sorrow: sad, "inconsolable Mario" and "Santiago weeps alone". We know there will only be a brief future for him but hope that his final days will be in peace, secure in the knowledge Santiago will be taking his place...
Most novels would have had Juan seething with anger and thoughts of revenge. The fact that he has already called Mario and agreed to meet with him is amazing! What crisp, non-formulatic writing.
That said, Juan could use a few Cher like slaps and "snap out of its" for his failure to realize why Elsa is upset by his hermana refrences.
There has to be some noncommunication, hence Gabi and David. I was yelling at Gabi, "tell him what happened!! tell him where you were!!". Sadly, she only continued to look guiltier as David continued his uncharacteric low-keyed, silent fury charade.
Can't wait til tonight.

Adolfo was right to obsess over Gabriela seeing Félix. That will surely come to pass, that she tells Leonardo at some point.
He will know it's not just any guy with a patch, since it was Carlos at Adolfo's beach house.
Mauricio Medina is gorgeous. I just love that character so far; can you tell. I saw him with all that passion pink paint at Elsa's. That's for me!
Gabriela was too circumspect; but I think she is terribly embarrassed and ashamed she got pulled into that beach house ruse.
On top of that Julieta barely escaped a ruse herself. It sounds fishy on the surface of it. I'm afraid Roberto set David up pretty good to tar both sisters with the same brush.
I am with you Vivi, why doesn't Gabi just come clean with David and tell him about the whole thing. Because then we wouldn't have more angst and would shorten the story. I wish in at least one of these shows our heroine would smarten up. One can only hope.
I really do enjoy this show though. Over all I think it is well written and like the characters. I hope that Elsa does give Medina a chance. He is such a handsome and really nice. I think she knows she will never have JJ and eventually she will fall for Maricio.
I think Ausuncion is just as funny on this show as he is as Chaves on Dinero. I am pretty sure the actor plays both roles. If not must be twin brothers. At least in this one he is the nice funny guy.
I think it was Aribeth who said she had thought Larrosa was a bad producer, but Dinero and Verdad are the only two shows of his that I have seen and they are both great. I only have a good impression of him so far. And I love that he uses the same actors, so you get to see familiar faces.
gold? This part went by really
fast. Who carted the gold to the
lawyer or to the bank? Medina
along with Juan Jose? Was there
any detailed explanation of this?
I saw the comedian on Sabado Gigante last weekend, in passing. He looked really different, but no mistaking that smile of his.
Floridia, so nice to see you de-lurk! Don't be a stranger. :-)
Lynda, I was just saying that I think Gabriela is ashamed of herself. She was so upset; and Julieta is ashamed of herself, too. So they are hesitant to talk about their prospective ruses out of sheer pain of it.
Roberto tarred both of them with the same brush to David in that conversation, too. He's not going to be up for hearing anything good about them.
In this country, he'd probably be slapped with a hefty tax -- if indeed he could even claim the treasure.
It apparently belonged to some government entity, IIRC, protected by soldiers. They'd no doubt be on that like white on rice IRL, IMO.
Our two lead galans (JJ and David) are being upstaged in the sensitivity department by the second string galans (Medina and JJ).
Well, leaves the main characters with room to grow on, I guess. I also mentioned some time back that if David were Adolfo's son, he would be having those aggression genes.
David's a very passionate guy, which is a double-edged sword. It can cut wonderful (as it does!) and dreadful.
Really don't know what excuses to make for Juan José. He seemed like a wise man while he was in prison; I liked him. I'm open for suggestions. :-)
Vivi:
I think it was Aribeth who said she had thought Larrosa was a bad producer, but Dinero and Verdad are the only two shows of his that I have seen and they are both great.
And Jarocha mentioned a few of his early telenovelas that were very good, too.
Sonadoras was a huge juvenil circo, but it was fun, the young protagonists (Aracely, Angélica Vale, Michelle Vieth, Laisha Wilkins, Irán Castillo, Arath de la Torre, Kuno Becker and so on) were adorable, the galáns (Arturo Peniche, Ariel López Padilla) were hot and I loved it very much.
But believe me, Las vías del amor is one of the worst Televisa telenovelas ever. I'm not exaggerating. The script and the directing were ridiculous, boring and often disgusting. Btw, it was directed by Salvador Garcini who screwed up the first 60 episodes of CS09 and STuD.
Before I started to watch LVO I had thought it would be a show filled with drugs, prostitution, screaming, idiot, one-dimensional characters, lots of exaggerated scenes and a bunch of little lolitas, but I was wrong, thanks for heaven. :) I think if Larrosa's given a good script (thanks, José Rendón) and hires a good director he can shine like Estrada and Alonso. This show is cute, in spite of the dark mysteries and murders.
I think every single producer have favourite actors, though it's true that Larrosa has more than anyone else.
Salvador Mejía: César Évora, Jorge Salinas, César Évora, César Évora
Ernesto Alonso: Yadhira Carrillo, Eduardo Yanez, Lety Calderón, Manuel Ojeda
Carla Estrada: Adela Noriega, Lucero, Colunga, Olivia Bucio, Daniela Romo, Ernesto Laguardia, Alejandro Tommasi, Mauricio Islas, Azela Robinson, Raymundo Capetillo
Yeah, I don't quite get what's up with JJ, he is a bit dense sometimes, treating both Elsa and Medina the way he has. I, too, was practically shouting at Gabriela to just tell David what happened already! But, of course, then it would shorten the story.
I have to say that as much as I am a fan of EY, both Medina and Marcos are very handsome men. If you get past Marcos being a bad guy he is quite good looking. And it is nice to see Marino from Dinero as a good guy. EY does do a good job of being goofy and awkward like he was with Alejandra. He continues to be lovable in spite of his shortcomings.
All the intertwined plots in this show make it really interesting, several possibilities for paths to cross in surprising ways.

Aribeth, I liked Larrosa's "Mujeres Engañadas;" it had stupid stuff, but somehow it was still good.
Laura León and Andrés García were fun to watch. Two lions together. They should both be named León.
I was pretty worried about Gabriela. We all know what Carlos' intentions were but then to add lecherous Felix to the mix! (Did you catch the look he gave her as she left? Creepy!) She was very, very lucky to get home unharmed. I doubt that Carlos will bother her again, but there's still Roberto. He's psycho enough to try something just to prove he could get what Carlos couldn't.
I still can't believe this is only episode 32. This TN is in the thick of things where most others are just nibbling around the edges. Whew!
I laughed when David threw the phone. Shades of Sergio Sendal! I wonder if we're going to have to keep a "dead phone" count?
In JJ's defense, he was a "country boy" when he got framed and sent to prison so he really has no history of relationships with women. He has NO clue that because he thinks of Elsa as a sister, she may not feel that same way about him. One other thing from personal experience (I have 5 older brothers), there usually is a "code" between friends that their respective sisters are off limits. Even if JJ didn't think of Elsa as 'his' sister, she is still Marcos' sister. Guys don't often cross that line because it can mean the end of a good friendship.
Really don't know what excuses to make for Juan José.
I have a simple mind. He's played by one of the hottest telenovela actors ever, and he's not as dumb as Juan Reyes, Juan del Diablo, Rodrigo Montalvo and Camilo Whatshisname. And that's enough for me. :) I remember Octavio from Entre el amor y el odio was one of the biggest bipolar jerks ever but he was played by César Évora, end of story... :)
Okay, to be serious:
- He suffered much and he had at least five shocking experiences in the last months: the death of Piedad and Goyo, the losing of Marcos's friendship, he almost got imprisoned again, then he became rich and powerful.
- He may not have many experiences with women (but please, please, please, don't let him be a 40 years old virgin again, after DA and FELS I can't stand that storyline anymore), maybe that's why he doesn't understand what Elsa's problem is.
- Money and power can change people's minds. Fortunately he hason't become an egoistic brute, but he focuses on his biggest problem - the murder of that maid. He spent 11 years in prison and now he has a chance, a real chance to clear his name, of course he's narrow-minded now. He doesn't realize that he hurts Medina or Elsa who helped him so much.
On the other hand, though I adore Leo and Medina, in comparison to the other characters who are flawed humans they're idealistic - too good, too polite, too wise, too perfect. Of course they outshine the other galáns, every demigod would outshine mortals.
Hello, Ivy, it's so good to see you here! :)

Ladies, in the next weeks I'll be very busy and my recaps will be a bit shorter until the end of November. But naturally I won't be able to resist explaining my favourite scenes in the comments section.
Why is David listening to Roberto bad mouthing Gabi and Juli. I didn't think they were that close. He should be suspicious of anything that Roberto says not listen to his advice.
Oh no, not another misunderstanding between David and Gabi. Gabi is too scared to tell David what happened because she is scared of his reaction. Instead of playing games, David should just tell her he knows she was with Carlos and listen to her explanation. David sure has a temper.
I am pleased at least with Carlos that he apologised to Gabi then took her home. He is not that bad just spoiled.
Aribeth, JJ better not be a 40 year old virgin, lol. Before prison he must have had girlfriends. The kiss he gave Elsa was pretty good, lol. I think he is just out of practice with flirting, and has lost his moves. He was in prison for 11 years.

I guess some household employees were saying he told them exactly how many ounces of everything to get at the store.
They admitted it was probably about his strict diet portions, so I don't get the big deal; but that's Escandalo.
Did anybody see that? I unfortunately saw it on the HD TV downstairs which has no DVD recorder, since we only have regular definition DVD recorders.
But Lalo was looking good. He still had his long hair, and he looked fabulous, to be honest. Clean shaven and long hair. I wonder now if that was old video from during CS. Did anybody see?
I really only meant to stress how good EY looked on Escandalo! And how much I wish I had a DVD of it so I could make a screen cap.
Thanks Aribeth for yesterday's recap.Great as usual.

Being late to the party, I just want to add that for some reason I have some sympathy for the sexual molester Carlos. He commits asssault but does not go through with it to the end. That does not deserve sympathy but it seems he hasn't had a proper loving relationship with a parent and is spoiled, angry, frustrated and emotionally abused. I suppose that might qualify him for some sort of redemption in the end. He isn't a cold blooded killer like his father and Roberto.
David is so being played by Roberto, poor guy. He and Gaby take one step forward in their relationship and some misunderstanding and miscommunication takes them two steps back. I hope this is not going to be a pattern to the end. And Bertha is always there to interfere in his life as well.
GinCA
I have been watching this "alone" without recaps or comments to save time, but felt the need to pop in because like others, I 'm thinking what the hay with our main galan JJ! I realize that he has been in prison, but he is somewhat an awkward hayseed in this. He WAS clever and more interesting in prison, now he is kinda a goofus. I might be a goofus at times myself, but I'm not the lead character in a novela. The rest of the characters are great and LVO is worth watching. Hope EY isn't like he was in FELS. Sorry to be negative! I agree the second string galans are more interesting and attractive.
