El Clon, Wed., October 27 - Summary for Discussion

At the end of tonight's episode, we will be halfway through the final week of the novela. Will half the plot lines be resolved? I think not.

Malicia tells Rogelio that she gave up what little she had to be with the Chump and I guess nobody could be expected do that just for the joy of being with him so he gave her the apartment. When it didn't work out, he wanted it back. She asks if he thinks she is doing wrong by not giving it back to him. Rogelio replies that he doesn't know what to think. 'Yo no soy Cristo para andar poniendo la otra mejilla,'I am not a Christ who goes around turning the other cheek, say Malicia is the understatement of the year.

Alej comes to see Nati. He tells her that he has seen the baby but he is in a very delicate condition. She says that it is all her fault. She knew she was hurting the baby and wanted to quit drugs but she couldn't.

Then we get Enrique going on and on about his family that he hasn't seen. He imagines that they are all happy and successful. Then he hears fears that his children have inherited his chemical dependency. Who cares.

Nati asks Alej to forgive her. She promises that if the baby survives, she won't do anymore drugs. '¿Y esta vez sí en serio, Natalia?' And this time you really mean it? asks Alej.

Jade tells Daniel that she was at the travel agency but she didn't have enough money to buy two tickets to Morocco. When are we leaving? asks Daniel.

Zoraida comes to see Jade. She tells Jade that Mohamed's house is falling apart. He wants to send Zamira to Fez and Zamira says that she will run away. Zoraida says that she doesn't want to leave Jade. Jade tells Zoraida that she has made a decision. She calls Zein and arranges to meet him. 'Estoy a salvo,' I'm safe, says Jade.

The Chump thinks that he and Clara will get back together. 'Qué poco conoces a las mujeres,' How little you know about women,' says Anita.

Clara can't understand why Rogelio doesn't call her since he must have read the documents she gave him. She and Carolina overhear Leo making an appointment to meet with Malicia. She asks Leo's new receptionist to do something and then calls Cristina and tells her. [In spite of her protestations before the wedding, Rosa seems to be serving Cristina without any problems.] Cristina replies that she will be right over.

Jade finds Jadiya and asks if she wants to run away with her to Fez. [Why on earth would she want to go to a country where she has no friends and she could be stoned to death for kidnapping Jadiya?]

It looks like Said has been laying down the law about domestic felicity. When Jadiya comes home from school, Rania sweetly tells her that they are going to have a party for her today and she can invite all her friends. When Rania goes upstairs to ask Jadiya to have tea with her, she finds her putting her clothes in a suitcase. She tells Rania that she is organizing her clothes and deciding what to wear to the party.

Roberto and this family and the sKanks each discuss the progress of the lawsuit.

Cristina gets to Leo's office just before Malicia. When she asks Malicia what she is doing at her husband's company, Malicia claims that she is organizing a surprise party for him. She just needs half an hour with Leo to set things up. Cristina agrees.

Dr. Villegas tells Albieri that Luisa reported him and confirmed Dr. Silvia's accusations. Albieri is impactado.

With Cristina listening outside the door, Malicia tells Leo how much she has admired him and how happy she can make him if he lets her organize this party. Cristina has heard enough. She barges in and accuses Malicia of putting the moves on her husband the way she stole the Chump & Rogelio from Clara and Pablo & her job from her. Leo protests and Cristina orders him out of his own office. He goes meekly. Cristina slaps Malicia and Clara closes the door on the fight and that's all we get to see. We wuz robbed!! Clara and Leo listen to Malicia's cries for help from inside. 'La justicia se demora pero llega,' Justice may be late but it finally came, says Clara.

Dr. Villegas tells Albieri that obviously there are problems between him and Luisa and gives him the opportunity to deny the accusation but Albieri thinks that Villegas doesn't believe that he was capable of making a clone. He confirms that he has made a clone and gives Dr. Villegas a DNA test he did on Daniel and Lucas many years ago. Dr. Villegas chides Albieri for his lack of ethics but he says that nothing can be done because cloning wasn't illegal when Albieri did it.

[He doesn't mention experimenting on persons without their consent, which certainly was illegal and unethical in 1990, which is when Daniel was cloned if he is 20 now.]

Albieri replies with pride that when he made Daniel, no one even believed that cloning a human was possible. Then Villegas tells Albieri that his cloning experiment might have been successful by luck and that one clone does not make the process safe or feasible. He advises Albieri not to do any more cloning or he could lose his medical license or go to jail. Albieri replies that he doesn't want to keep what he did a secret anymore. He wants everyone to know what he is capable of.

Albieri calls Amalia and says that he wants to tell her all his secrets. She asks if he is going to tell her about the clone. Albieri says that he will.

Albieri goes to the lab. He tells Julio about what Luisa did and Julio isn't surprised. He says that you have to be careful of those devout women. Then Albieri tells Julio that he is going to go public with the clone story. Julio advises him to think twice about that - Albieri has been chosen to be president of the Medical Board to replace Villegas.

Lucas and Marisa join Alej in Nati's room. Good news. The baby is out of ICU. The nurse brings the mega-baby in. Nati wants to nurse little Alejandrito but Marisa ixnays that idea. Her milk is contaminated and might addict the baby to drugs. [According to Wikipedia, exposure of developing fetuses to cocaine has not been shown to do that much damage. The crack baby is a myth. But Nati probably had very poor nutrition during her pregnancy that could have affected the child.]

Alí tries to talk Mohamed out of sending Zamira to Fez. Alí says that Mohamed is letting his anger speak and the last time that happened, he almost ended up with a second wife. Now Mohamed thinks that maybe he should have married Zuleica. He says that he is afraid Zamira will end up like Jade. Alí confesses to Mohamed that he made many mistakes with Jade. He didn't listen to her. He didn't find out what she wanted. He just told her what to do and she didn't understand. Alí says that he learned from his mistakes with Jade but Mohamed is not learning from his mistakes. Mohamed doesn't try to argue with Alí but he repeats that Zamira is going to Fez.

Zamira tells Latifa that she doesn't want to leave her friends and her school and especially Carlos. Latifa is not sympathetic. Zamira swears that she will run away rather than go to Fez. Mohamed tells Latifa to pack Zamira's bag.

Zamira borrows Amin's cell phone. She calls Carlos.

Lucas tells Rosa the good news about Nati's baby. He also says that the day the trial is over, he is leaving. He has realized that he can't sacrifice his life for Nati's.

Diana says goodbye to Alej.

Luisa tells Albieri that he won't get away with his betrayal. He will see what a Luisa Albieri is worth.

The sKanks are going to hear the results of the DNA test today. Hilda wishes she could see Lucía's face when she opens the envelope.

Gloria finds out that she is a grandmother. Alej swears to her that Nati has given up drugs. Gloria says that she hopes so but if her grandchild suffers because of Nati, she will get custody of the child.

Albieri, Luisa and Rosa all testify at the trial without providing any new or interesting information.

Jadiya hides her suitcase and goes down to her party. Said is happy to see Jadiya happy. Rania says that she is glad that there is harmony in their house. But she can resist saying, 'Claro que si antes no estaba en armonía no era por mi culpa,' Of course, if there wasn't harmony before that wasn't my fault.' Said walks away from her annoyed and Amina scolds her for continually bringing up Jade. The Naz tells Said that it is strange that Jadiya mentions her mother less and less. Said replies that time erases everything. Time will eventually erase Jade.

Jade has gotten the money from Zein to buy airplane tickets for her and Jadiya to go to Morocco [Does Jade have Jadiya's passport?] Zoraida tells Jade that Said will follow her. Jade thinks that he won't find her in the Medina. Zoraida warns her that Alí won't take her in and asks what she and Jadiya are going to do alone in Fez. 'Algo voy a hacer,' I'll do something, says Jade airily. She refuses to marry Zein again.

If anyone is interested, the Chump has sent Clara flowers and invited her to dinner but he won't take her calls. Then he stops by and brings her more flowers and says that they have to talk. She tells him that she is in love with Rogelio. He asks her to forgive him and says that she is the love of his life. She tells him that she tried to talk to him for 20 years and he wasn't interested. She tells him to leave, she is expecting Rogelio.

Roberto is sure that that the DNA test will prove that he isn't the father of Karla's baby. He has some champagne ready to celebrate when Andrea comes in to says that the test was positive.

The scary drug guy gives Fer and Paula a gun so that they can make more money. Didn't Fer already have a gun? Honestly, the continuity on this novela is horrible.

I think Enrique has decided to see his family but I really don't care.

Abdul is ready to take Zamira to Fez. Zoraida tries to exercise Alí's sympathy for Jade and suggests that he might take her back in his house. 'Never,' replies Alí.

Surprise, surprise, Zamira has run away.

The credits roll.

Jean, thanks so much. I am sorry we didn't get more of the cat fight between Cris and Malicia.

Jade is an idiot, doesn't she know that it takes money to live in Fez? She is like a butterfly flitting from one thing to the next.

The Chump is a fool, does he think that a few cheap flowers will do the trick with Clara after what he has done?

This was posted on the TW clon site yesterday and I thought it was amusing.

It's true, virtually all the young women on this show are backless or strapless or at least form fitting but poor Anita gets to wear the same blah-colored shapeless dress every day.

How i'd like to see the show end

Author: new impostor-free name (---)
Date: 10-27-10 05:09 PDT

Here goes:

Fernando - send him into the military.

Paula - just put her on a boat and send the boat into the ocean, where it lands is her new home.

Lucas/Said - should have to just fight. Have them both train with Alejandro and Pablo then put them in the octagon.

Albieri - shower/deodorant/jail!

Anita - she should be given a Macy's gift card and be allowed to buy some outfits.

Nati - send her to a convent.

Karla con K - send her to live with Tio Abdul.

Actually maybe Nati and Alicia should also be sent to live with Tio Abdul.

Clara - she should dump Rogelio and i get to marry her. But if she doesn't want to, i'll marry Vicki instead.

But if Vicki doesn't want to ... Nazira!?!?!

Jean, very funny comments regarding the show endings. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Jean, for yet another excellent recap of another far-from-excellent episode. What you said at the start of the recap is certainly true: the episode resolved very few of the many unresolved plot threads. I said yesterday that the writers seem totally unaware that this is the last week, and this episode did nothing to change my mind, except for the very disappointing confrontation between Cristina and Malicia. You're right: we wuz robbed!!

Jade's plan to flee to Fez with Jadiyah makes as little sense as almost all her other plans. And no, I strongly doubt that she has Jadiyah's passport. Even if Telenovela Airlines doesn't ask for it, Moroccan passport control will.

If Jade and Jadiyah somehow do manage to enter the country, perhaps they can get work as belly dancers. While I was there, I went to one restaurant that had a belly dancer, and she wasn't anywhere near as good as Jade (or even Jadiyah).

I was surprised to read what you said about the crack baby being a myth. I hadn't heard that. Of course, Wikipedia isn't exactly the most reliable source, but....

The posting you provided from TN World was terrific. The one place I disagreed with the suggestions was putting Tio Abdul in charge of sKanK Karla. The hypocritical Tio Abdul would probably be mesmerized by her. He's most effective in subduing timid women who fear him. I suspect Karla would just use her sex appeal to enthrall him.

So here we are, two days to go, and almost all the plot elements still unresolved. I wonder which ones will simply remain hanging at the end. Lots, I fear.

Oh, Jeanie, you're so right about so many things...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't see much resolution by the 4th day of the last week. What the heck...?

Regarding the "clash" of the titans that I waited so long for, we certainly were robbed/shortchanged. I'm still pouting, actually.

And Jade's current plan makes no sense at all. Could she have something up her sleeve?

So many characters, so little time!

Splendid job, as always, Jean! Thanks!

Am I the only one who loved this episode? Maybe we only got to see the first slap fired in the Clash of the Titans, but the set-up and Clara's (and Leo's) reactions were perfect.

I also loved seeing Villegas sticking a pin in Albieri's ego with his "So what?" reaction to the Great One's accomplishment.

And the courtroom scene with snippets of Albieri, Luisa and Rosa testifying -- did anyone else's mind stray to Perry Mason, circa 1957 and the stock cast of homely shifty characters who always seem to end up on the witness stand?

I found it hard to pay attention to the dialogue in the Latifa-Samira scene because I was so distracted by the huge, golden, amoebas hanging from Latifa's ears.

Crack babies a myth? Well, always hard to argue with Wikipedia, but if anyone wants to read about it, check out this list of references the American College of OBGYNs makes available to the public:

Jean, I like your recaps but you made a mistake when you said the Jade had gotten the money from Zein. No, she got the money from her uncle Ali who secretly put it into her the purse that Zoraida brought to her.

You also didn't put into the recap the full extent of the conversation Lucas had with Mama Rosa. She asked him if he was going to go after Jade and he answered that he wouldn't because he didn't want to make her promises that he then can't keep. It was an important scene because it gave the impression to the viewers that Lucas wasn't be critical to Jade's fate.

I'm just waiting for the social worker to visit Nati and suggest that Nati cannot be unsupervised with the baby.

Anonymous 12:21- I disagree. While Tío Alí did put money in the purse, it wasn't enough. Jade called Zein, went to meet him and later told Zoraida that he had given her the money for the tickets.

Lucas has said so many things about Jade and done so few, I admit that I omitted that part of his conversation with Rosa.

Jean thank you so much for recapping this Are You Kidding Me? Episode i just shaking my head over this nonsense.

Not only is the continuity horrible but the writing makes me think if they recruited a bunch of monkeys we have more logical plots resolved and told much more better than this crap they're trying to shove down our throats.

Granted it's make believe and a novela and you have to suspend a little logic but this?

Jade wants to kidnap her own daughter to Fez no job, her family has disown her and the one guy who is rich and wants to marry her she says no? Ok i no she doesn't love Zein but what has she ever done in this whole novela that makes any type of sense?

The three drugged out zombies are running amok still and are going to rob more people minus the one who gave birth. Yet in still all three still need to be locked up for a long time.

The clone story that what Albieri wasn't exactly illegal but yet and still without consent from Lucas he stole his DNA cells and then put them into Dora without her consent? He gets off scott free?

The skanks illegally stealing Roberto's sperm so are they going to get away with this nonsense?

This is enough to drive anyone to drink, maybe that's why they had so much of a strong drug references throughout this novela. Either the writers were taking some serious stuff to produce this nonsense and they knew if was going to drive the audience to drink watching this.

Finally i'm with NovelaMaven i did get enjoyment from Cris slapping Malicia and the looks of glee on Clara face and Leo barely containing his and it seem he was a little exited that his woman was dishing out a serious beat down to the rat skank. But i also agree with others they could have showed us more of the fight though. Here's hoping that next time we see Malicia she's sporting two raccoon like black eyes, a couple of missing teeth upfront and her neck in a neck brace. That will at least confirm to me that Cris put a hurting on the resident skank maybe she think twice before she ever calls Leo up again.

Anon 12:21,

Rosa asked Lucas if he HAD gotten back together with Jade (¿Volviste con Jade?) and not if he was GOING TO get back with her (Vas a volver/volverás/vuelvas con Jade?)

His answer: no, he doesn't want to make promises he can't keep. But as soon as the trial is over, he's leaving.

There's a bit of ambiguity in his answer: He just says he's going away (me voy), not that he's going to pursue Jade. But I understood it to mean he would then be completely free to go after the love of his life.

Blu,

Even though just about everything you say is true, for some reason my Crapometer is hardly registering. Maybe I've tightened my beanie too much and it has finally interfered with the blood flow to my brain. hahaha

oops, I meant to say "vuelves", not "vuelvas"

Thanks Jean. I share your frustration, bafflement, and indifference. I wouldn't say there was no progress in this episode; there was much more than usual. It's just that none of it was dramatically satisfying. It's hard to see it as doing anything but failing to live up to the expectations it had set.

"Who cares" about Enrique's kids? Exactly. It could only be interesting if it turns out it's someone we already know, like Paula.

I also found it amusing that Rosa is happily serving Cristina. They're both pretty mercurial.

Why would Jade go to Fez? That's exactly what we were wondering here. It's a typical Jade plan: 1. leap, 2. look, 3. blame Lucas.

"We wuz robbed!!" Totally. This is supposed to pay off several storylines. No poetic justice? No cartoon violence? Oh well. Can't say I'm surprised the ending is rushed.

And why was it revealed now that cloning wasn't illegal when Albieri did it? That contradicts what we were led to believe for the whole show.

On Nati's health: I was also thinking she was malnourished. She never used to eat. Anyway, she also drank and did who knows what else to harm the kid. Scot free?

By the way, further proof that Rania can't do anything right: the special party she threw Jadiyah was just her cousins and her two pals dancing with Tía Nazira.

I was a bit surprised the DNA test for Roberto came out positive. Now part of the last two episodes will be wasted on that storyline.

One thing I liked, a little, was Karla in court. Her cartoonish qualities are funny in a serious context, much like when Daniel was asking her serious questions about cloning.

NovelaMaven there's not enough duck or crazy glue to keep my beanie intact to swallow this nonsense were being fed. I'll just have to make do with a strong beverage beside me for these last three hours.

As LukeM has said it's hard seeing them trying to live up to expectations it had set.

Are we sure this novela wasn't meant to be shown on Univision instead of Telemundo? Think about it seriously it does fit what they usually produce on that channel doesn't it?

The previews that we saw from last night's episodes look interesting but i'm sure once we see the full episode we'll be saying what in the world were they thinking when they wrote this?

I'm with you NovelaMaven. I still enjoy the novela and I certainly don't think the plot continuity is any worse than what Univision dishes out.

In fact, I cut my sleep short last night because I DON'T miss Spanish class ever because it's such fun. But when I got home at 9:45 I still had to watch my DVR of the last four innings of the Giants/Rangers and I STILL watched El Clon. GO GIANTS!!!

One thing that doesn't make sense to me is that Rogelio told Malicia that Escobar's name was on the escrituras (deed). If he put the apartment in her name, as they've been saying all along, why wouldn't her name be on the deed?

I never, never liked Luisa. Remember way back when she moved into Albieri's apartment while he was in Morocco, trying to snare him? Then she's coddled and spoiled him this whole time. But, one suspicion of another woman and she goes postal. Of course, that's what such an obsessive character WOULD do. Just saying ... never liked her.

I was stunned that the sKanKs plan seems to have worked. I simply can't believe you could smuggle out day-old semen and impregnate someone with it. Probably the cousin (forget her name) will confess, or maybe even Karla.

Yes, we wuz robbed!! I wanted many more slaps from Cris.

Whoops, I almost forgot to thank you so much, Jean, for your excellent and very accurate recap.

Thanks for the recap, Jean.

But, really, can such a thing be done as to collect sperm by a lay person and inseminate one...???? To me it seems an impossible feat. Even doctors many times don't have success inseminating their patients.

I hope we haven't seen the end of Malicia getting her comeuppance.

I had to laugh at Nati wanting to breast feed her baby. She's flat as a board. Also, how can she consider such a thing after the way she's been carrying on. But anything goes in TNs. Ha! Ha!

As for Jade, she is a lost cause. She's a dreamer and has absolutely no sense.

Ann-NYC

Thanks everyone for the nice words.

I hope we're not finished with Cristina v Malicia. Somehow, she has to be made to return the apartment to the Chump or Clara. (I would think.)

I was also very surprised that the sKanks' scheme worked. We don't have much time for that story to develop.

Is this the happy ending of the Nati/Alej story? If so, why did we have to go through months of agony only to see a miracle happy ending - healthy baby/Nati off drugs.

Whatever, we're almost there. Just to let everyone know, NovelaMaven and I are double teaming the Gran Final. She is recapping the first hour. I'm doing the second with pictures for both.

Boy oh boy!! A double-team grand finale. This is going to be such fun!

Novelera: I assumed the documents Rogelio got from Clara and Escobar were the documents Escobar wanted Alicia to sign. Legally it's not worth anything, but I guess we're supposed to think that he was convinced by the story, presumably told to him off camera by Clara. There were definitely some gaps in the storytelling.

The thing that bugs me about the Malicia story is that after months of her lies working perfectly, suddenly exactly the same strategy doesn't work at all, and with no great revelations explaining the loss of trust.

Well, I'm looking forward to the final episodes anyway, if only for the discussion here!

I was a little curious too when Rogelio said that the Chump's name was on the 'deed'. Of course, the presentation of legal issues in this novela is so sloppy as it is in most novelas and other entertainment media.

The word Rogelio used was 'escritura,' which literally means a 'writing' but does mean a 'deed' in legal terms. There is an 'escritura de propriedad,' a property deed and an 'escritura de traspaso,' a transfer deed.

Maybe Rogelio saw the deed where the Chump transferred the title of the property to Malicia.

Ann-NYC,
Do-it-yourself artificial inseminations can work pretty well and aren't all that rare. What is hard to believe here is that the... um... specimen was still usable by the time it reached the sKank. It suggests an even ickier scenario than we thought -- namely that Consuelo hovered outside the bedroom and reclaimed her prize almost instantly. ¡Guácala!
--------
Even if Roberto is vindicated because Consuelo rats on the sKanks or Karla confesses, I wonder what will happen to Roberto, Jr...

-------------
As others have already said, I expect Malicia to take a few more lumps before we're done.
----
Novelera, I can't stand Luisa either. She's so awful, she almost -- but not quite -- makes you feel sorry for Albieri.

Jean, this was one of those episodes that, instead of inspiring excitement and anticipation, just seemed to increase the frustration. The most excitement I've had is reading some of the what-if comments by our commenters (for example Luke's theory that Paula might turn out to be Enrique's daughter...wow! Now why can't the writer's come up with even half as much interesting stuff as we do?)
N.M.--I hear you about the big golden amoeba earrings. What has been bugging me all along is that sometimes Latifah wears them facing one way, sometimes the other way. Guess my mind is wandering...
Joan

Before you all scattter, can someone tell me the meaning of the word "muktar" or "maktur" - something like that. Jade and Lucas use it (remember I'm way back on capitulo 27) occasionally and it seems to be very significant. It sounds more Arabic than Spanish. Entonces, muchas gracias para los "recaps" - saben que los estaré leyendo hasta el año nuevo - al menos. Muchas, muchas gracias. Tracy

TraceCadet,

Maktub: Arabic, "It is written", it's destined to be.

Thank you NovelaMaven! Don't know what I'm going to do without all you guys. Tracy
