La Verdad Oculta #44: Juan José wishes Alejandra no harm -- quite the opposite

Gabriela and Alejandra joyfully greet living, breathing "Mario;" and as Alejandra runs to phone David, "Mario" and Abelardo explain to the stammering Adolfo that "Mario" took a plane to Veracruz -- that the chauffeur and relief-driver friend died on the highway.

When clearly incredulous Adolfo draws near for inspection, "Mario" escapes, claiming fatigue. Returning Alejandra failed to find David's phone in-area; but when she and Gabriela marvel in relief that sometimes incredible things happen, both Adolfo and Bertha clearly agree -- struggling not with joy but with cognitive dissonance.

Meanwhile in Mario's chambers, Santiago can hardly escape fast enough, before Abelardo reminds him emphatically that David still has to see him. Santiago's started this and can't go back now! Across town, nervously giggling Roberto returns Marcos's truck and so much cash that Marcos shrugs off the fender damage.

At the condo, Carlos bitterly questions to Yolanda why Adolfo's suddenly interested in keeping up appearances regarding the Genovéses; Carlos himself is just glad the honeymoon was ruined -- and he hopes they're never happy. At the bedbug hotel, Marcos considers the risky business of selling another diamond to get an apartment.

Frantic Roberto leaves a curt phone message with Yolanda for Adolfo, saying thanks very much for everything: but he hopes he never sees Adolfo again -- and Roberto's leaving the D.F. At Mario's, Alejandra warns Bertha about her attitude toward Gabriela; but with the uncle alive, Bertha doesn't have anything to fear now, she says.

Presently David returns, Gabriela rushing to embrace him with the fabulous news; and David speeds to "Mario's" chamber -- while Abelardo stands aside unnoticed, tears streaming down his face. In the darkened chamber, David embraces "Mario," getting the story and explaining he escorted the bodies to the funeral home.

"Mario" makes headache excuses; and as soon as David exits, Santiago heaves a relieved sigh and dives into the tunnel. At the hotel suite, Elsa surmises what tardy Juan José is up to when Asunción won't plainly say; and when Juan José does return, Elsa nags him with a crack about possible dinner plans with some "lady friend."

Before exasperated Bertha sneers at having to send a dinner tray up to the honeymoon suite, David instructs Abelardo about "Mario's" wishes to arrange the two funerals. At Roberto's, Adolfo lays on the bell and pounds on the door to no avail. At Santiago's, he apologizes to a worried Julieta, just as Leonardo appears at the door.

Breathless Adolfo hits the bar at home before even noticing Yolanda; and he amazes her with the "Mario" news, without letting on he arranged the hit and his confusion at what went wrong. When Adolfo mulls absently that "Mario" had actually too much luck, Yolanda's preoccupied with happiness for David.

After learning the content of Roberto's phone message, Adolfo flies into a rage at being cheated out of $5 million pesos and storms upstairs, warning Yolanda not to breathe a word of this to David. Not a word! he shouts. At Mario's, when Gabriela snuggles up and wonders if they can't have their own place, David says with hugs and kisses that he must stay with his dad now.

While Julieta and Leonardo run out a moment, suddenly Santiago notices with a start the trefoil cuff link box is missing from the shelf. Upon their return, he's frantically searching for it; and from Santiago's explanation, Leonardo instantly connects that indeed something was stolen during the robbery -- which robbery is news to Santiago.

At a nice jewelers, Roberto brings the cuff link to be made into a ring. Back at Santiago's, Leonardo insists that the robbery is significant and achieved by experienced thieves who took nothing else; and he's very curious. Santiago claims he lost the mate maybe five years ago; and Julieta -- who can't remember either one -- confides to Leonardo that Santiago has always been mysterious. Leonardo ponders pointedly.

Abelardo brings flowers to the funeral home and weeps bitterly over the casket of his employer and friend, dismayed at the unfairness of Mario being all alone there. At least Mario can rest assured that everything will work out as he planned, Abelardo murmurs.

At the hotel suite, Juan José orders Asunción to take flowers to the Genovéses and ask about Alejandra for him -- whether Elsa likes it or not. When Asunción brightens that at least he'll see Dora, Juan José ruins that by leveling about Dora's non-interest in him and suggesting he back off; but Asunción isn't convinced of that.

With Abelardo returned from the funeral home, in the kitchen Dora notices his depression even though "Mario" is not dead. They talk privately, and he astounds her with the true story of the accident -- that Mario is truly dead. And not only that, she learns Adolfo was blackmailing Mario and that Gabriela is Mario's daughter!

In a flashback, we see Mario's beloved showgirl Márta; but that when Mario intended to divorce and marry the pregnant Márta, Santiago beat him to it! The most awful part: when Mario found her murdered body with the cuff link in her hand -- and Adolfo and Yolanda encountered him there, leading to the blackmail.

In turn Abelardo is surprised to learn from Dora of her witnessing Adolfo frame Juan José, and Juan José's true identity. Upstairs, Gabriela invites Julieta on the phone to visit and explains their plans to continue the honeymoon at the weekend. Hanging up, Gabriela pulls David down on the sofa for a quick ravish; and though he has to work, promises he's never stopped thinking about her since the day they met.

Santiago is back at the tunnel house, applying his disguise; while at the kitchen table Dora explains she was happy David had a better life with Mario -- and they decide that even though Santiago is a genius at his art, they must apprise David of the deception. Abelardo reveals the explanatory letter in reserve from Mario.

Santiago negotiates the tunnel and jumps into Mario's bed with a spring. Meanwhile, at the front door Dora greets Asunción and the flowers; and she surprises him with the supposed news. Despite that, astute Asunción notes Dora still looks sad. He leaves the flowers for Alejandra in Juan Ocampo's name, and Dora actually smiles indulgently at Asunción making a little time with her.

Elsa and Mauricio look forward to dinner together and with Caramelo and his niece, Angela; when he asks if Juan José will mind, Elsa denies Juan José has any say in her life. Mauricio is glad to hear she claims no interest in him.

Juan José visits a decidedly reserved Alejandra at the studio; and when he asks what's wrong, she demurs at first. But when he presses, Juan José is surprised she reveals her suspicions about his name, his choice of her firm, his murder conviction -- in fact, doubts about his innocence. How did he get his money? she demands.

Juan José quietly explains everything; and when Alejandra laughs derisively at the treasure story, he invites her to check with Medina! Two thousand kilos of gold ingots. When Alejandra jumps to her feet, still indignant at being used, Juan José gently protests that he only wanted to draw near the family to learn the truth.

But then, he says -- then he met her, and liked her so much. Alejandra is so fine -- so intelligent, he whispers. When Juan José swears he never meant to hurt her, Alejandra rounds the desk to make for the doorway, objecting. But Juan José gently backs Alejandra to the wall, whispering earnestly he only meant to draw close to her, because he likes her -- so much, he insists, lowering his head to kiss her.

Also, if Marcos and Susana keep baby making like rabbits, they're going to turn up pregnant soon.

Thank you very much, Jeri! :)

To Jarocha from yesterday:

Aribeth: I will confess that I'm not a big fan of most of Carla Estrada's period novelas.

Neither am I. Amor real is a high quality, epic telenovela but the protagonists are aweful (in my opinion). In Alborada the protagonists are much interesting but the story is boring. About Pasión no, it's definitely not my cup of tea.
But I adored the Ernesto Languardia storylines in AR and Alborada, Kika Edgar and Mau Islas in AR, Kika and Will Levy, Alberto Estrella and Marisol del Olmo in Pasión.

Jeri:
As Aribeth knows, my favorite couple in Corazón Salvaje '93 are Veronica Merchant and Cesar Evora.

Yeah! :) I loved them, too, much more than the main couple.

Thank you so much Jeri. This was wonderful. I'm running, but wanted to say how enjoyable it was to see Adolfo sputter and look so confused and defeated. Lol!

Loved Limon and Dora. I know JJ meant well, but he just came off as being mean in the wayhe told Limon Dora would never have interest in him. Couldn't others say the same about him and Ale for the same reasons? Love the kiss he laid on Ale. Those two have an animal attraction. I'm glad the big lie is out in the open between them now, so they can actually start a real relationship.

Please Elsa, please get JJ out of your heart so that Medina can find a way in.

Same to you Leo (about Gabi). Julieta is really cute. Come on. But keep being smart Leo. I wish Fausto would confide in him. Leo will find out all eventually anyway. I had thought that what was in the box was another ring, but now I see it was a cuflink. Hmm...

Gabi looked like she was wery willing to keep the honeymoon loving going. You don't really need to go to work, do you David?

Aside from Limon's antics at Dora's door, the funniest thing last night was the look on Faustimario's face when he hopped in bed and ducked under the covers all the way up to his eyeballs. He looked scared stiff. Lol! He's going to loses weight making that journey back and forth in the tunnel and up the stairs.

Finally, I am so happy Dora and Abelardo exchanged their info. Now they are both as much as they can know at this point. Also, Abelardo has someone to share his grief for Mario with. It was so sad seeing him alone at the funeral home.

*they both know as much as they can know at this point*

What a smoldering look on Juan's face as he closed in for the kiss! Excellent picture Jeri.

Another stellar recap with all of the events perfectly related. My favorite lines were: "struggling not with joy but with cognitive dissonance" and "Dora actually smiles indulgently at Asunción making a little time with her". Excellent!

Santiago may have physically morphed into Mario but it doesn't appear he realizes it's essential he appears to become Mario mentally and emotionally. He should have been overcome with joy to be reunited with David, not cringe and act as though he could barely tolerate his embrace. Perhaps that's why Abelardo and Dora "...decide that even though Santiago is a genius at his art, they must apprise David of the deception". Yes, please. David is sure to realize something is amiss - and quickly. But, if they reveal his identity to David, will he have to keep the secret from his wife, that Mario is actually her own father? Hmmm.

Aribeth, I loved Pasion and the actors you mentioned are also favorites of mine. I'm still hoping Carla Estrada and Eduardo team up on the next production.

Where is crazy Roberto headed off to? Can't wait to find out.

Diana

I am missing Mario so badly! :-( BIG frown.

He was the soul of the story, and I so agree with Abelardo that it's not fair Mario's alone at the funeral home.

Santiago is always in a bad mood, for pete's sake. He just can't help himself, apparently.

I guess that's how Gabriela managed to grow up so sober, even with Marta's showgirl genes.

Thanks for another wonderful recap Jeri. I was glad that Abelardo told Dora the 411 on the identity switch. If Fausto acts jumpy everytime David is around him that will bring suspicion.

I too LOLed when Fausto hopped into the bed and covered his face with the sheet with fright. It was great the see the smug grin on Adolfo's face vanish at first glimpse of faux Mario.

The scene at the funeral home was so sad. Abelardo was loyal to end to his beloved employer and friend.

It was a matter of time before JJ acted on his attraction to Alex and from the looks of things she responded to the kiss.

OT. Pasión was definitely one of my fave novelas. I couldn't get enough of sexy pirate Ric. That's where I gotmy moniker "Pirate Babe" from.

The scene I loved: when Asunción was reading The Count of Monte Cristo. :)

The scene that broke my heart: Abelardo crying over the coffin.

I always enjoy your very well written and helpful recaps, Jeri and I had to review Part 5 for the kiss. Ale seemed to welcome it despite her outrage at being used by J J for vengaanza. Really, who can blame her. And J J always seems so sincere. The writers always leave us hanging, so I am anxious to see if Ale finally decides to smack J J or go with the flow and enjoy the kisses and accept J J's explanation.

I thought Roberto's lows might be his conscience but maybe it's just mainly fear of the consequences of being caught for his horrible acts. I have a feeling Roberto may be tracked down by Adolfo but then Adolfo doesn't have a great track record for completing villainy lately.

Elsa is reluctantly accepting Mauricio's advances but I wish she'd hurry up and forget about J J and enjoy Mauricio's attention.

Asuncion might bring some fun into Dora's life but Abelardo might not like it. However, Abelardo had years to woo Dora if he were interested (haven't decided if he is or not.)

GinCA

Aribeth, yeah, LOL: where are the pictures? he says... Asunción clearly cannot read.

That could be a nice job for Dora -- and they could get to know each other that way.

GinCA, you are so right; I like it that the villains do not have a free pass and are beset by troubles.

P.S. Just want to call attention that the kiss is not over yet. ;-)

Thanks Jeri for the great recap.

I thought for sure that Adolfo was going to cry for real when he saw Mario alive. He was nearly pulling out his hair with anger.

I wonder if Yolanda will work out that Mario is really Santiago. I think that she is a smart cookie.

David was sad and grieving for his father, then he came back from the dead and he was so happy, and now Abelardo is thinking of telling him the whole truth. That will be real cruel, but I suppose it is better that he knows the truth.

Once again I loved Limon's antics at the door with Dora. So funny.

Loved those flashback scenes with fun loving Marta. I am having some doubts about who really killed Marta. Was Adolfo the killer? What about Yolanda? This is just speculation on my part I really don't know.

Leo is a real detective isn't he, trying to ferret out info from Santiago. If Julie ends up with him she won't be able to hide anything, even little white lies. Leo will just have to look at her and start asking questions and she will break down and confess, lol.

Oh yeah, great kiss from JJ and Ale. Can't wait for the next episode.

Margaret

Forgot to add.

Mario was such a nice guy. He should have more people mourning for him instead of just Abelardo.

Margaret

I also loved when Santiago jumped into bed and pulled the sheet up to his eyes. He was so scared and probably regretting the impulse that made him agree to go ahead with the plan.

I think he and Juli should move into the Genoves house. It will save him travelling to and from and also from Leo's questioning.

Margaret

We're supposed to think Adolfo killed Márta, because the cuff link pulled off into her hand supposedly belonged to him.

The trefoils belong to the Ávilas; Carlos talked about them when Roberto asked about the ring earlier in the story.

Roberto always coveted that ring, and it's going to be his downfall; like Margaret said, Leonardo's going to uncover the truth.

And Mario recognized the one Márta had as belonging to Adolfo also.

Jeri, great recap, you are a really smooth writer...thanks!

I’m hoping that Dora, after making the ultimate sacrifice, giving up her child for HIS best interests, might find someone who is really devoted to her and a truly GOOD, fun guy for the autumn of her life. Limon is polishing up his flirtation game, he was quite charming at the door with the flowers. He really needs to drink a little less at parties, he doesn’t handle his liquor well!! I like Limon, he is the type of character that has his heart and mind in the right place. I’m especially encouraged by all the morality lectures he gives to JJ on fibbing and venganza. Also, he was very astute on his comments the other day on rich girls vs poorer hard working girls. Yes, those who work all day for little money, might not look as polished as the idle rich, but they are a better catch! His devotion to Caramelo is quite dear. Now if Dora begins to have an interest in Limon, she will have to work on his table manners a bit, other than that, he’ll be a great companion, plus, like us, he loves the novelas!!!!

I too am mourning the loss of Mario, he was a real jewel of a guy. Yes, he was the “soul” and “galan” of our novela.

I’m glad that Ale, rather than, “going for the gold,” gave JJ the icy shoulder and let him know that she was on to his game. She is a strong, non-victim type of heroine, good for her!

Sandy, having not thus far put much thought into him, I just love your very apt description of Asunción! Now I am looking forward to seeing where that goes; thank you.

Thanks for the recap Jeri! I'm also going to miss Mario. He certainly was the most honorable man in this telenovela, he made mistakes in his youth but was doing the best he could to correct them.

I feel sorry for Abelardo as he is the one who has to bear the knowledge that his friend is gone. The bond between those two was great to see and I appreciate Abelardo's loyalty to Mario until after his death.

Fausto will need to let go of his nerves now to do a convincing job.

I also liked the way Alejandra handled JJ. I think she is good for him, she keeps him on his toes.

Aribeth:

I liked the story between Ernesto Laguardia and Mariana Levy (RIP) on Amor Real. I do like CS 93 alot and I like the main couple but I also have a little issue on Mónica being so passive at times, maybe is a Maria Zarattini thing.

Jarocha

Mónica's a goody-two-shoes. :D

Did anyone else notice that young Yolanda in the flashbacks is played by the actress currently playing Crisanta in Duena? (She was also in Guapos.) Yet, they have the same old dudes playing themsleves in the 20 years back flashbacks. Lol!

I recognized her as Susana from "Angela." Great choice for young Yolanda, I thought.

Yep. That's her. Her name is Rossana San Juan.

Aribeth,

I so agree on Mauricio Islas in AR, his role might be the best novels anti-hero ( for me the hero) of all time. Does Mauricio still act? I haven't seen him in anything.

Poor Ale, she doesn't stand a chance against JJ's quiet voice and smothering eyes. Thanks Jeri, you conveyed the scene very well. I can understand her distrust of him completely. Her mind is telling her one thing but her hormones are singing an entirely different tune.
I don't remember Bertha being happy about her uncle's return. Did I miss it? Ale and Gabi seemed happy enough but I don't remember what Bertha's reaction was.
This show is making it hard to enjoy some of the TNs out there. The producer gets it. Abelardo sharing his secret with Dora would had taken a few weeks on other shows. Why wasn't this TN well received in Mexico again? Their loss. Thanks again Jeri for that stellar recap.

Hanna

I'm sure that some of you have noticed that Abelardo is in love
with Dora, but I haven't seen any
mention of it. He does not like
Asunción's attentions in Dora's
directions.

My thoughts were - don't break David's heart twice; his father should only die once and therefore
I think he should be told. If they
told Gab & Jul, it would certainly save all those mad dashes in the
tunnel.

Sandy: I'm not Aribeth but Mauricio Islas is working now at TV Azteca, his latest novela "La Loba" just finished airing.

Hanna: I don't think this novela was as badly received in México as it is thought. I'm not sure how reliable wikipedia is but according to them it had a 26-28 rating, that's higher than Sortilegio and possibly Soy Tu Dueña (I haven't seen the final ratings).

Jarocha

Jarocha

Hanna, Bertha's only reaction I saw was confusion ("cognitive dissonance").

Floridia- It's been mentioned that Abelardo may be in love with Dora. I don't think it's obvious, but he has given Limon the stink eye when he spoke amorously about Dora. This could also be more of a protective brotherly thing too, since they haven't shown his feelings to be explicitly romantic towards her.
