La Verdad Oculta EP45 11/16/2010 - The curious case of the Preciousss Cuffffff-link

* After the kiss the embarrassed JJ starts to giggle and murmurs if Ale's uncle really thinks he's innocent then they have much to talk about, and please tell him he'll visit him next day. Alejandra, who's completely speechless and perplexed, quietly nods and after JJ leaves she tries to reboot her steaming brain cells.

* In the morning David and Gaby visit the new, gruffy Mario/Fausto/Santiago in his bedroom, however, he's not in the mood to appreciate the genuine love the young couple shows for him. No, thanks, bye. After the young couple leaves he has a minor panic attack and whines about being unmasked soon. Abelardo first tries to encourage him, but after losing his patience he threatens him with Mario's favourite weapons: calling the police and telling everything to Gaby. A few minutes later Bertha storms into the bedroom (as usual) to poke her nose into his business (as usual), but the frightened man scolds her for intruding so rudely. *Viewerville: Yeah!* Abe advises him to be more amable with the family members.

* Marcos pays a visit at a jewelry and shows his precious diamonds to the jeweler. The man examines the diamonds and apparently realizes they have been stolen, so he asks to be excused for a minute and gives someone a call. Marcos gets frightened and he leaved the shop hurriedly, leaving the gems behind.

* In the Genovés villa the Guillén sisters have a girlie afternoon. Julieta enthusiastically tells Gaby she'll go to cinema with Leonardo, and they are both happy that finally Fausto lets her to date someone. Gaby asks her sister a favor: there's a ring on her dressing table that Carlos gave to her, would she be so kind to take it back to him? Julieta definitely doesn't want to return to Sagitario anymore but Gaby manages to convince her. Gaby misses her father much and plans to visit him with David. A very bad idea comes to her mind: she asks Mario if he would like to accompany them. Whaaat? No way, no, no, no, I can't. No. No... And he runs away.

* While the niece of Medina and Caramelo have fun together in his pretty Sims3 condo, Elsa and Mauricio enjoy each other's company. However, he gets a call from Alejandra who asks him about JJ's fortune, gold bars and other fairy tales. He proposes to visit her next day to talk about the situation.

* In the garden the sisters are also talking about the mysterious Sr. Ocampo who used to be a poor man whose name was JJ Victoria, but now he has a tons of money that he found under his kitchen... Strange, isn't it? But she thinks he's a good man. And handsome, giggles Julieta. As usual, Dora accidentally eavesdrops some elements of their conversation, but fortunately the tray and the two glasses of orange juices survive the moment.

* Leonardo is interrogating the jeweler when Robertogollum shows up in the shop. The One Cuff-link became the One Ring and he can't hide his enthusiasm when he puts is on his finger. Leonardo notices his anxiety and also the amount of cash he has. Ha asks the jeweler about Rob's ring and he learns it used to be a unique cuff-link.

* The sisters enjoy the sun in the garden... Until Bertha shows up and starts to ask about their mom. Was her name Marta? No. Do you have any relative who's called Marta? No! Then she must have been a lover of your dad. Julieta explodes: don't dare insult our father! Bertha laughs at the enraged girls and she tells them she saw Fausto visiting a tomb of a Marta who died 20 years ago.

* Fausto is about to leave the house through the tunnel when Bertha knocks the door. She complains about the rudeness of Julieta but Fausto puts her in her place. *Although Fausto is jeopardizing the mission, Viewerville thoroughly enjoys the humiliation of Bertha.*

* JJ nervously tells Asunción that Alejandra knows everything! The situation is worrying, but he is honestly interested in her. Oh man, you're an emotional shipwreck. Doorbell. JJ orders Limón to open the door, and Caramelo happily tells him that she and auntie Elsa had lunch in the flat of uncle Mauricio. Oh-oh.

* At the seaside house Adolfo, who's completely losing his cool, elegant goodfather manner, tells Félix what happened and how much money he lost recently. He gave 5 million pesos to Roberto Zárate, but that idiot didn't succeed to kill Mario and then he disappeared. They must find that bastard! He doesn't accept any excuses from Félix, he'll do the job, like it or not!

* Ramón reports to Leo that Marcos Rivera Munoz was the man who tried to sell the diamonds in the jewelery. Wow, Elsa Rivera's brother? By the way, jewels. Do you remember the burglary at the Guillén flat? Fausto told him that a cuff-link was stolen and he just saw the exact copy of that jewel... On the hand of Carlos Ávila's friend. Oh, and Fausto is such a strange guy. He's a good man but he acts like he has something to hide.

* Alejandra tells her anxious uncle that Juan José Victoria Ocampo would like to talk with him. Juan who? Abelardo saves the day: you know, the man you met on the wedding party. Ale wants to talk with Mario in private and after Abe leaves she starts again the story of JJ who's so innocent. Sorry, my dear, please refresh my memory. Innocent of what? *Viewerville: ...* Later Abelardo tries to tell him JJ's story but he's fed up with the Genovés household and leaves immediately through the tunnel.

* Gaby asks Abelardo about the Balmori sisters, how long do they live there? For a few months. And where is their mother buried? In the crypt of the Genovés family.

* Juli gives the ring to Carlos who rudely sends her away, just when Leonardo arrives at the office. Sir Leo orders Carlos to excuse himself for his behaviour, and when Carlos objects and tries to have an alpha male dispute, he forces him to his knee. Poor Carlos, you're an omega male.

* JJ visits Elsa to talk about her visit at Medina and to act like a jealous jerk again. JJ's lines, Elsa's lines.

* In Sagitario Bertha looks for Roberto because she needs to talk with him. By the way, she liked the way Carlos behave on the wedding, and our omega male tells him the story of the ring he gave to Gaby. He's very amused when he finds out that Berthita and the newlyweds live together in Mario's house, and they agree to team up. Dolphie shows up but Bertha doesn't have time to chat, she quickly leaves. Adolfo prohibits Carlos to hit on her and when he laughs at him (Why, do you like her? Come on, she's much younger than you!) he slaps him hard. I told you, omega.

* In the Genovés villa Bertha sadly tells David that Gabriela makes fool of him. Did she tell you that Carlos had given her a ring?

Good morning. :-) Looking forward to your summary, Aribeth!

Here are the You Tube links for episode 45:

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Part 4

Part 5

Thanks for the links Jeri!

Aribeth, I am already intrigued just by the title. Can't wait to read your summary!

In the meantime, this seems like the perfect opportunity to thank everyone who noted that Martin Freeman will be playing Bilbo in the Hobbit. I hadn't seen him before but found him on the excellent "Sherlock" episodes PBS is currently running. He seems perfect for the part!

Diana

Okey dokey: all posted! Thank you, Aribeth!

Thank you for posting, dear! :)

Excellent pictures Aribeth! I couldn't help but smirk at the look on smarmy Carlos' face after Adolfo slapped him. Most excellent.

Wonderful recap and so many noteworthy lines including "reboot her steaming brain cells", "new gruffy" and of course "The One Cuff-link became the One Ring". :)

JJ and Elsa are acting like a couple who've been unhappily married for years. The only difference is they never even dated! They need to get over this faux obsession/jealousy in order to move forward with the love lives they are destined for.

Bertha is unbearable. I wanted to scream when she told David about Carlos' ring! Gabi should have told David though and to be honest, I can't blame him for getting upset. I hope a few idyllic days of marriage have softened him and that he doesn't go totally off the deep end and pauses long enough to hear what she has to say.

I am missing Mario more with each episode. The newer, sad sack version leaves a lot to be desired.

Loving every minute of this.

Diana

Thanks for the great recap Aribeth.

What a kiss. I bet Ale had trouble coming down to earth after that kiss.

JJ is still at it with Elsa. Whenever he hears Mauricio's name he sees red and smoke comes out of his ears.

Looks like Bertha is going to be a real problem in the newlywed's marriage. Maybe David should have listened to Gabi and moved into their own house.

Margaret

Thank you Aribeth! This was fantastic.

I agree that Faustimario has got to tap into his soft cuddly side to be able to better channel Mario. Part of it is that Fausto/Santiago is by nature and by circumstances (being on the run 20 years) a gruff guy. But the other part is that he doesn't want anyone to get close enough to him to discover the truth. He needs to pull it together though, and start showing David and Gabi some love. Ale needs to be told (although I think she suspects), since she was in on the original plan anyway. It's a shame Mario and JJ never spoke for real, because that would have been a moving conversation. Fausto needs to listen to Abelardo so that he can know what's coming around the corner and be prepared. I don't know how he's going to keep up this pace of the back and forth, triple lives, and not allowing Mario and Fausto to be in the same place. Gabi and David are going to want their dads to spend time together.

I just don't know what to say about JJ and Elsa anymore. He needs to leave.her.alone! Jeez! He just had that hot kiss with Ale. Why can't he focus his efforts on that and make that budding relationship work. Let Elsa have the chance to discover love elsewhere. He continues to treat Medina like crap (by doubting his honor), even after all Medina has done for him, and once again using him as a reference to Ale.

Although I was mortified by Bertha telling David about the ring, at least it's out in the open now. Yes, David will likely blow up, but hopefully it will blow over soon.

I love Leo. Enough said. Go Leo, go! I think he noticed Carlos' ring too while he had him in that arm lock hold.

Adolfo wants Felix to see a specialist about a false eye so that he doesn't have to wear that conspicuous eye patch. Lol! It must be kind of lonely at that beach house. He must be itching to get back to "work".

JJ seems to be a bit too possessive of his friends.

He doesn't want the group to break up.

He doesn't want Elsa to have anything to do with Mauricio. He is also trying to put off Limon with his enthusiasm with Dora.

What next will he start yelling at Caramelo because she wants to be friends with Mauricio's niece.

Margaret

Loved the recap Aribeth and the LOTR references in regards to Roberto/Sméagol. The way he acted when the jeweler gave him the ring, I expected him to begin to pet the ring affectionately and call it his precious.

Fausto is going to blow it the way he keeps losing his cool. I'm sure Alex will become suspicious when "Mario" couldn't recall their conversation about JJ.

Loved how Leo is piecing everything together and knowing that Fausto acts as though he's hiding something. LOL at how Carlos was no match for our Alpha Male supercop.

LOL at the JJ's lines, Elsa's lines quip. It is becoming quite tired with them having the same argument over and over.

With Marcos dumb move of trying to pawn off another stolen dimanond, it's just a matter of time before Leo catches him.

I really like the energy Juli brings to her scenes, whether it's man talk with her big sis or telling Bertha off. I thought it was cute how she started teasing Gabi and David about being all over each other after he complimented how Gabi filled out her suit. Take it upstairs kids! :)

Thanks again, Aribeth! Funny recap. Trays and crockery everywhere are glad Dora recovered her wits.

Roberto did NOT disappear when he tried the ring on; how about that.

It was funny that Félix seemed so attached to his patch and did not want to get a prosthetic eye. Like he wouldn't be special anymore or something.

Abelardo and Santiago should have just said Mario had a stroke or something because of the upsetting accident, accounting for his loss of memory and strange behavior. Or dementia or something.

I really don't like seeing Adolfo be cruel to Carlos; if he hates him so much, why is he so determined to protect Carlos from the dirty side of the business? Does he just think Carlos is too stupid to risk him knowing about it or what…

Loved your Summary Aribeth!!!

I agree with the three commenters that JJ is acting too possessive and jealous. Elsa is trying her best to give Mauricio a chance but JJ is giving her a lot of flack!!!

What do the writers want us to think??? I know if it were my brother he would be happy for me to meet a fine upstanding man. What is his problem??? I can't help but think he has feelings for her that he can't seem to bring out, or is confused about. I can't believe he is just a possessive guy.

It's getting boring.

Ann-NYC

Ann- I think Elsa feels the same way about JJ's jealousy. Ya, basta! She has not gotten one ounce of pleasure at seeing him be jealous, which would be the norm in most novelas when someone has a crush on someone who doesn't feel the same way.

JJ seriously needs a woman. Maybe after a good f... he won't be this interested in others' life.
He takes this older brother thing too seriously. He's right when he tries to protect Elsa from Carlos & co because he instinctively knows there's something wrong with them, but it's not fair that he forgets how much Medina has helped him. At least he should give him a chance.

Although I still find Elsa irritating, I'm on her side in this debate, JJ needs to be kicked in the ass a few times because his behaviour is stupid. But probably this will be Alejandra's job.
On the other hand I find it amusing that she never ceases to mention Alejandra: la vieeejaaa, la arciteeectaaa. Jealous kids.

Imho right now Julieta and Leo are the rays of sunshine of this show. Leo is so calm and bright that I can't help falling in love with him. (Though I'd like to know his family background because he's a bit Mary Sueish.) And Julieta is so full of life and joy.

Isn't Leo just so smart and handsome. I love it when he gets that 'light bulb moment' look on his face when someone or something seems suspicious to him, lol.

He is slowly putting two and two together.

Why is Adolfo so abusive to Carlos. That slap was very over-reactive. Obvsiously Adolfo doesn't believe in any father-son bonding.

Does Adolfo know that it was Roberto and Carlos that were involved in the maid's death? Has it ever been mentioned?

Margaret

Jeri, wonderful recap....loved your clever phrase in reference to Alejandra, “she tries to reboot her steaming brain cells." Yes, I saw enough steam from that kiss to energize an old locomotive! The alpha/omega references were apt as well and really fit our novela.

Knowing when to quit, I have given up on my early wishes that JJ and Elsa would grace us with a boda in the end, but I can’t really put my analytical finger on the reasons why JJ is so energized in his constant criticism of Medina. When needed, he was quick to use Medina for a solid reference to explain his oddly acquired riches to Ale, but then he objects strongly by reason of “ese tipo” when Elsa had a very innocent dinner with Medina and the CHILDREN......What is it with JJ, jealousy of accomplishment, control freak, male grouchiness, hidden feelings for Elsa or just funky novela writing? His actions aren’t “big brother-ish.”

Jeri, you’re right, stroke or Alzheimer’s is an easy explanation for “Mario’s” strange behavior! For some reason the whole Fausto as Mario thing strikes me as being so very FUNNY!

We've seen Adolfo slap around Carlos a few times, and it's obvious this has been going on since he was a kid. He's an abousive father. That's the only time I feel sorry for him. And when he's with Yolanda is the only time that I feel he acts like a normal hunan being.

What does Mary Sueish mean Aribeth?

It's funny seeing Harry G. (Leo) in this role that I like so much, since I hated his character so much in Dinero. I also like his funny bullshitter role in Eva Luna right now. He's a Colombian actor from a big family. His twin sister is a super famous actress and entertainer in Colombia.

Airbeth--Thank you for the great read.

Two teensy things.

Marco only left one diamond. Leonardo asks the clerk later if he touched it. He says no, but Marco did. So our by-the-book Leo carefully places it in something to take for tracing finger prints. That's how they got Marco "fingered."

Of course, he didn't go by-the-book during the Carlos smack-down, but I loved it. Omega man indeed, Carlos doesn't seem to get a break from anyone, friend or foe. Sometimes I feel sorry for him. I'm glad he has Yolanda on his side.

So, number two--Carlos doesn't come out and lie to Bertha about the ring, but he lets her assume the ring was in payment for a favor from Gaby, while Bertha fills in--you mean like at the beach house--and he says puede ser, or, it could be. He wants to know how she knew about that little escapade. Bertha says everyone knows, even David.

Bertha is such a meddlesome little troublemaker, even when she's right. I'm sorry Gaby isn't always going to confide in David. But, this is the stuff of TNs. There's always got to be misunderstandings.

I loved the part where Bertha and Carlos are discussing Gaby and Carlos says (loosely interpreted), well I can see you'd like to be in Gaby's place--and I would like to be in David's place, but not the same way (as husband). That's when they seal the deal to team up. Storm clouds brewing everyone.

I loved The Kiss. For all JJ's fumbling around Ale, after 11 years, he didn't have any trouble doing it right.

I love having more Licenciado Mauricio on screen. He really is perfect for Elsa. All Elsa and JJ do is bicker. We all hope she gives Mauricio a chance. He's certainly ready for her. From what other commentators have said, I can't believe he's played mainly villains or marginally bad guys.

Margaret--You asked if Adolfo knows it was R & C involved in the maid's death. As far as viewerville knows, no.

We've been shown in the endless re-runs of the incident, that R&C took off the second she went over the railing.

When the crowd gathers, Adolfo shows up and says up there, look up there, there's the culprit.

It only my opinion, but I think Adolfo wanted to get this incident cleaned up as quickly as possible so as not to besmirch the reputation of his hotel.

With the corroboration of Don Mario, the matter was closed to everyone's satisfaction--except for poor JJ. I don't think the two boys were ever questioned. Only Dora saw the incident and she kept her mouth shut.

Sandy, much as I would like to take credit for that funny line, today's recap was brought to us by Aribeth. :D

"Mary Sue" even has a link at Wiki. With more than 700 episodes, 12 movies and hundreds of books, it's a common fixture in Star Trek critique.

"...A Mary Sue (sometimes just Sue), in fanfiction, is a fictional character...lacking noteworthy flaws, and primarily functioning as a wish-fulfillment fantasy for the author or reader..."

Sorry Aribeth, great recap!

Thanks for the explantion Jeri. However, I wouldn't say Leo is lacking in flaws. He's got some demons of his own with his dead wife and being separated from his daughter and family. There is something that haunts him. He's also hung up on Gabi, which he needs to get over. I see Medina as more of a Mary Sue, with no flaws that we have seen, yet.

Yeah...I'm just the messenger; I wouldn't call even Medina that.

Personally, I dislike that designation and never use it, even when applicable.

Maybe I just find it cynical and snide -- and easy. Plus, why should it be a female name, eh?

Thanks for the recap and pictures Aribeth!

I think one reason JJ needs to stop his jealousy for Elsa's sake is that, although she is not taking pleasure at seeing him like that, his attitude could make her think that something romantic could happen with him in the future when his heart seems to be focused only in Alejandra.

I don't think characteres like Leo and Medina are too farfetched. I've met some really wonderful guys in real life with good tempers that aren't jealous or cranky. My sister's boyfriend is a Medina, my mom and dad adore him.

Vivi: I do feel bad for Carlos when his father treats him so horribly. When I see him with Yolanda I feel a little sad because I can see the potential he had to be a great guy if he had grown up with love and respect from a father like Mario. Sometimes I wonder how would Carlos and David have turned out if their places had been interchanged as little kids.

Jarocha

Thanks as always,
I love the novela and the recaps.

I guess I need an explanation of how Mario's wife died and when?
what happened to Julieta's mother?
did Marta live with Santiago
after Gaby was born? how old was Gaby when M. was murdered?
what was the deal with Mario & Adolfo? Thanks, if it's not too
much trouble.

Floridia-

Marta is the mother of Juli and Gabi. Mario is Gabi's dad. Fausto/Santiago is Juli's dad. Juli was just a tiny baby, and Gabi was 2-3 years old when Marta was murdered.

I'm not sure how Mario's wife died (unless it was mentioned in an episode I missed), but it seems to have been by natural causes, sometime during David's childhood. When Mario finally decided to divorce her so that he could be with Marta, Marta had already decided to marry Santiago to provide a father and home for Gabi.

I've not heard all the details of the blackmail deal between Adolfo and Mario, but these seem to be the key items- Adolfo has exclusive rights to run restaurants in all of Mario's hotels (so Mario could not make a dela with anyone else to run a restuarant/bar/club at his hotel); there seems to be some imbalance in the share of profits Adolfo gets to keep, for how little stake he has in the business; Mario can't question/investigate/butt in to anything having to do with the restaurants (which likely means Adolfo can easily use those legit businesses to launder the money from his dirty businesses); it's a 20 year contract; and if Mario breaks the contract before the 20 years are up, ALL of Mario's properties and the whole business goes to Adolfo, and Adolfo will turn Mario in to the cops. There are only a few months left in the contract.

Thanks for the terrific recap and all your screencaps, Aribeth.

J J's kiss affected Ale to the pit of her stomach and she had to grab her tummy and exhale to come back to earth.

J J keeps saying he sees Elsa as a little sister but he is acting like a jealous suitor. And does he really believe Mauricio has bad intentions when Mauricio has shown himself to be an honest person who has done so much for him? Margaret, I think your right. J J feels he has his little circle of friends who make a family for him. And after all he's been through for eleven years and with his dear mother's death, he needs them around for security and comfort and companionship. Maybe he doesn't even consciously realize this, so is acting like a threatened possessive jerk.

Okay, Faustiago needs to take a tranquilizer and chill out and slow down, especially when he races off. Everyone knows Mario just lumbered about. We want better acting Faustiago.

Adofo needs to be locked up as a murderer and Carlos and Bertha need to be locked up for just being so evil.

I love how all the stories are being tied together by our super sleuth, Leo.

GinCA

Newbie, thank you. I kind of thought that Adolfo didn't know that Roberto and Carlos were involved in the girl's death, but wasn't sure.

Margaret

Margaret--Don't know if you'll read this, but here goes.

If Adolfo did know about R&C's involvement, it would just be something else to hold over Carlos' head for being inepto. I'm sure we would have heard about it by now from Adolfo's own lips (or smack)--having to protect a couple of no-goods.
