La Fea Más Bella #101-102 11/23/10 Odious Home-work.
Read Amanda’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.
1. Celso tells the cuartel that Fernando fought some toughs in the street, and Alicia claims that he was defending her. Fern laughs at the very idea of fighting for Ali, and he tells Lety that he was fighting for her. He saw Roman and he couldn’t stand it, so Fernando gave him what he deserved. Lety’s walking on air.
2. Luigi tells Fernando that they have another project, an underwear commercial. With a horse. For once I’m glad for double episodes. How many projects do they have on their plate now?
a. Bella Life Jewelry commercial, with a big penalty if it’s late.
b. Sport Wind, for which they’re going to Germany.
c. Paty Mentarola’s project that Luigi agreed to help on.
d. The Yuri / Mijares benefit concert.
e. A celebration event for the Cannes nomination.
f. The underwear commercial.
Remember when Conceptos had NO projects? Loving Lety is good for business!
3. Lety imagines that Super Fernando rescues her from Snidely Roman and his nogoodniks. What a fun fantasy! But she drops out of the clouds when Fernando’s parents ask her to help them choose a house for a wedding gift for Fern and Marcia.
4. Fernando is still in the clouds, thinking about Lety and wondering why he feels so different. He goes into the cave and reminds her how special their night was. Lety says it’s because she loves him. He wants to take her out again tonight because he’s hungry for more of that Lety Luvin’. She turns him down because of the call from Teresita.
5. Omar calls Fern and asks if he got the red bag. Fern can’t find it on Omar’s desk, and Sara denies that she saw it.
Capitulo 102.
Read Julie’s original recap, then come back here to discuss it.
1. Omar tells Fernando that the bag includes a letter that tells Fernando what to do while he’s gone, and warns of the consequences if he doesn’t. Fernando rebukes him for leaving such a dangerous thing out in the open. Omar says, “If the letter falls into the wrong hands, you’re finished. It’s the end of the world as we know it.”
2. Fernando questions Sara and Lety about the red bag. He tells Sara it’s Omar’s lab samples (medical), and he tells Lety it’s a matter of life and death. After everyone leaves, he searches the building.
3. Paula’s not willing to tell her son about her relationship with Saimon yet.
4. Lety is upset about the wedding house assignment. Julieta again asks Lety what’s going on in her life, what’s she hiding. Again Lety denies. Mama knows the house hunting hurts Lety.
5. Tomas teases, “Don’t tell me, you’re going to take Conceptos from Fernando?” He says she’s upset because her beloved Fernando is getting married, but he offers to help her with house hunting.
6. The attorneys threaten to embargo Alicia’s car, and her papa tells her to sell jewels. Although she says that would kill her, she ends up gathering them to sell.
7. They go look at a house and Tomás acts stupid with a-Dora-ble.
8. MamaJ & Pop remember falling in love, as they listen to “their song,” José José’s Amor, Amor.. (What an incredible range he once had! What was he? Alto? Tenor? Bass? YES!)

Poor deluded Ali she somehow manages to turn everything to her self. Fern fought the nacos for her. She in her own way is as desperate and needy as Marcia.
I was actually surprised at how fast Celso blabbed. Does no one in Conceptos have the faintest idea of what the word description means.
Loved the little scene with Julietta and Erasmo talking about the past while hearing Jose Jose in the background. He did have a great voice I suspect in the baritone range and I've got a couple of his CD's which I really like.
Hey Judy B. Did you notice the women playing Dora at the house Lety was looking at? I am pretty certain it was the same actress who played Claudia in Dinero. Once she started talking on the phone to her friend Maltilda I recognized the voice. She sure looked different as a brunette.
I never realized the music that was playing for Erazmo and Julietta was Jose Jose. That really was a sweet scene.
So were Fernandos Shoes really squeaky today? In Lety's office you could really heat it when he was swaying and again when he was looking for the red bag in Omar's office.
Watch for supressed laughs in Cap 101 when Luigi is with Fern in Fern’s office.
Notice that Lety is separate from the cuartel, more and more daily. The cuartel has hot gossip and Lety is in the vortex with them, but she ignores the gossip and pulls Sara away to talk to her. Watch the trend in coming caps.
In the last scenes, we see Lety surrounded by her treasures who made her who she is: her parents and Tomás. Then we ping-pong to Alicia surrounded by her treasures which she got from her mother and which form her identity: her jewelry. On the phone with her papi, several times Alicia mentions the importance of image. Of course she hangs onto it tenaciously - it's all she has.
Pata, it's funny you mentioned the squeaky shoes - I'd forgotten all about them, but you reminded me. It's not the last time you'll hear them. At one point they were noisy enough that I think I mentioned them in a recap. (This was still relatively early in my recapping "career," and I didn't yet know just how poor the sound engineering can be in some telenovelas. Like the echoey rooms with vaulted ceilings in Heridas de Amor, or a particularly loud fountain in FELS.)
Decie Girl, I agree, Lety has surrendered her honesty. Actually, Fernando has methodically broken every one of the morals she had when she arrived at Conceptos. He was first drawn to her by her high ethics and trustworthiness. Does he really want his Lety to be capable of such dishonesty and wrongdoing?
Telenovela justice dictates that Lety will have to pay for her sins, but so will Fernando. The Book says, "whoever causes one of these little ones .. to sin, it would be better for him .. to be drowned in the depth of the sea."
I deliberately keep the list of scene notes very short, but I try to at least touch on everything that matters. Those of you with limited Spanish, if there is a line or conversation you can't understand and you want to know, and it's not covered in my summary nor the old recaps, just ask. If I can't answer, there are others on the board with better Spanish than mine. I remember when I first watched, I'd go crazy trying to understand certain conversations. Don't go crazy!
Pata...I was listening to the show today on my headphones because I was making pies for my daughter Julie to take with her to Charlotte. And I heard THAT voice and thought...I KNOW that actress....who is it? Thanks for clearing up the mystery.
I hate the whole red bag story line so I was happy I had no time to watch today.
I usually FF through the subplots but I always enjoy Julieta and Erasmus. It was hilarious when Lety discovered them with the windows all fogged up. They are a very cute family.
Many novelas have a lot of plot progress in the beginning to set up the plot, then a long, long middle where nothing important happens, then significant progress in the last two weeks. Fea, OTOH, takes us through phases of about 30 caps each, do there is always some sort of progress going on. So far we've had:
1. The gal proves herself to be indispensible to Fernando, and he entrusts her with the shadow company.
2. Fernando makes a lot of mistakes, Lety rescues him a lot, and the embargo is finalized.
3. The false romance
4. The true romance, so happy together.
Fernando wants to be alone with Lety tonight, but Mr. Smooth Operator suddenly is as awkward as a schoolboy. I think it’s that he knows how to seduce conquests, but Lety’s not a conquest, she’s a woman he loves. And he has no experience there, so he doesn’t know what to do.
I also loved Fernando's Pepe Le Pew-style flirting in Lety's closet. It was such a dead-on mimicry of Pepe's style that I thought it had to be deliberate.
