Life after El Clon: El Mundo de Telemundo
What has happened so far in Aurora?
We’ve been invited into the murky world of cryonics where people deny the finality of death by paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to have their corpses preserved at very low temperatures in the hopes of eventual resuscitation when the cure for their death is readily at hand.
As a cursory Google search will show, this world really does exist. Since the 1960’s, actual versions of Dr. Ponce de León have been selling space in their freezers; and if you can’t afford the deluxe full-body version, they’ll happily welcome you into their heads-only (or even brain-only) bargain basement.
Could it work?
Is it possible to raise the dead, unharmed? From what I’ve read, it’s a very tricky proposition. For one thing, it depends on what you mean by dead. If the holy grail of cryonics is bringing back an intact personality, well, it’s hard to imagine any definition of death that would allow that. If we assume that higher brain function is the first thing lost – the ‘brain death’ that justifies removing organs for donation from a still biologically living donor – how can we expect a ‘brain-dead’ popsicle to be neurologically intact years later? Would you have to anticipate death but not wait for it? That is, would you have to freeze people who were still neurologically intact?
All told, this business of cryopreservation and resuscitation is not totally impossible, theoretically speaking, but the science just isn’t there yet. And when the science eventually catches up with the desire, all those expensive popsicles will likely be out of luck since their antiquated preservation has almost certainly destroyed them.
And yet… and yet… we are in TelenovelaLand where the laws of nature and logic do not apply. Dr. Creepy has raised his lovely daughter from the near dead. It would be the scientific coup of the day and our old friend Augusto Albieri would not have hesitated to take credit for it. But surprisingly, Aurora’s father worries that her life would be blighted if the press were to get wind of her undead status. This leads to three major plot developments:
The latest Big Lie:
Inés and Gustavo (Aurora’s actual parents) tell Blanca (Aurora and Lorenzo’s actual daughter who has been raised to believe she is the daughter of Inés and Gustavo and sister of Aurora) that Aurora had a daughter who was abducted many years ago. Got that? Okay, now she has been found and she will be living at the Ponce de León home. That would make this Beta-Aurora the grandchild of los Ponce de León and Blanca’s niece. Everyone is supposed to believe that Alpha-Aurora is still languishing in the freezer.
The Betrayal:
One of the doctors in the Cryonics facility secretly films the Great Thaw and then sells it to the highest bidder, Eduardo Hutton, wealthy magazine publisher and member of the Ponce de León social circle.
Now Eduardo is a nasty piece of work:
He is married to Vanesa, Alpha-Aurora’s old frenemy and now successful telenovela villain who likes to boast that in real-life, she is worse than the characters she plays on the screen. (And just a glance at her surgically-enhanced enormous ass and lips would be a giveaway to her profession: she looks like a mandrill in estrus decked out in a mini-falda and tacones. She is in the sisterhood of Ivana in STUD and now, Victoria in Eva Luna).
Eduardo can’t understand why the Creepy One values his daughter’s well-being over his own scientific glorification. (Nor can we, really. Could Ponce de León be that rarest of telenovela beasts, a Multidimensional Character?)
A spiteful ex-lover has dragged Vanesa and Eduardo through the tabloids, an unforgivable humiliation in Vanesa’s view.
The First Murder:
I didn’t think this was a murdering kind of story, but apparently I was wrong. A woman – all we can see are her black gloves and black stocking clad legs -- poisons Eduardo. Why? For cheating on the mandrill? For spurning his girlfriend? For revealing the secret of Alpha-Aurora?
Since he’s not just a friend, he’s also a client, he manages to drag himself to Dr. Creepy’s lab for freezing. (Martín is excited about getting himself some cryo-action. Maybe he gets to empty some of the baggies of ice cubes into Eduardo’s capsule/coffin.) While Eduardo’s wife and lover both hated him enough to wish him dead, the killer turns out to be a dark horse: Dra Elizabeth.
Elizabeth is Dr. Creepy’s office wife. She has been in love with him for years but, alas, it has been un amor no correspondido (unrequited). Even now that Dr. Creepy and Inés live apart, their marriage a casualty of Aurora’s tragic fate, he is uninterested in her. When she confesses what she has done, Dr. Creepy threatens to call the police. But she threatens right back: She knows his secrets and where all the bodies are not buried.
Another plot thread yet to be embroidered in the tapestry:
Cesar is the son of Lorenzo and Natalia and half-brother of Nina and Martín, and currently in prison. He is about to be released, if his prison enemies don’t off him first.
Latest development:
Both Martín and Lorenzo open their hearts to loving Beta-Aurora now that she has assured them she is not sister to one nor daughter to the other. [My money is on Lorenzo. Alpha-Beta Aurora seems like an old soul in a young body; once she realized who Martín actually was, she no longer saw him as a lover. She, apparently, has boundaries.]
Last night, perhaps softened by Martín’s words, Blanca realized that neither Alpha- nor Beta-Aurora is her enemy. She and Beta-Aurora strike up an alliance.
The previews show Beta-Aurora arriving at Lorenzo’s dance studio. Anyone want to bet that Nina’s reign as top student is about to come to an end?
Comments about Aurora or any other Telemundo novelas? I'd love to hear what you think about Alguien te Mira. I still don't know where the plot is going although I was glad to see Lola and Pedro Pablo reconciled last night. Looks like their happiness isn't going to last very long though...
Labels: alguien, aurora, clon, fantasma, telemundo
For Fantasma, the latest Kiko Olivieri project, we can count how many novela cliches can be found in one novela.
Lately, we've seen the upstairs-downstairs romance of Milady and Michel broken up because they think that they are sister and brother. Michel is adopted but nobody but his adopted mother and the priest know that.
Meanwhile Michel is engaged to Andrea who doesn't know that she is dying of a mysterious fatal virus. Since she doesn't have long to live, she is always talking about what she is going to do when she is old, while everyone around her who knows the truth smiles grimly.
There is something weird about Ana Layevska's (the evil Elena, known as La Gemela, the twin, to differentiate her from Elena Lafé)face. It seems kind of lumpy sometimes.
How did Dario know where to find Ruth before Montecristo had her killed? Pretty nice digs for a homeless person.

So I have a theory about who Martin's mom is. Tell me if I'm crazy. I think it's Vanessa- the tn star. She's blond, like he is. She seems the type who would have chosen to put career first, asked Lorenzo never to tell anyone she gave him a child out of wedlock, and gave him primary care of their child. It's a wild theory, but it would make Martin either the half brother or step brother of every eligible young woman (except Aurora 2.0) on the show.
I missed the last few Alguien te Mira until last night. I was happen to catch the episode when Pedro Pablo gets cleared of the affair. Yay! As for the doctors each getting accused of being the murderer at various times, I feel no sympathy since they all put themselves into these stupid situations. Rodrigo is being a complete idiot right now. Let him stew in jail for a bit (and hopefully sober up).
I don't think Rodrigo or Benjamin are possibilities. Of course, based on the acting and the character,I think it's Mauricio. But sometimes, on his acting and mysteriously showing up at Rocio's Art Gallery (the excuse about buying paintings is fishy), I think there is a chance it could be Julian. But not knowing definitely keeps me hooked in.
Vivi - I got all excited about your idea that Vanesa might be Martín's mother until I remembered that when Lorenzo first met Alpha-Aurora at a club, she was with Vanesa and Natalia; and there was no spark of recognition between Vanesa and Lorenzo. Or was there? Also, he was a few years older than the girls and Martín was already a few years old. So the backstory of a previous relationship would be... well...icky:)
So if Vanesa isn't his mother, then Martín is unrelated to her daughter, Vicki and to Natalia's daughter, Nina. But yes, as you pointed out, Blanca is his half-sister so Aurora will have to watch out for any budding romance between them.
I haven't been watching Alguien consistently, but long enough to cheer for Lola and long enough to hope that the awful Camila gets what's coming to her. I still like Piedad, but have no use for her male colleagues!
Vivi in DC - Aurora - Good observations, I think you're correct about Vanessa being Martin's mother. All the things you said about her point in that direction.
Jean - Fantasma de Elena - I also couldn't figure out how Dario found out about Ruth. I'm clueless, maybe Dulce?
I'm glad Ruth was saved, even though her savior was Dario.

I've been faithfully watching Alguien and am really enjoying it. I keep jumping from one to another as the killer. Right now, I'm suspicious of Julian.
However, I'm inclined to think it is a man, just for the strength needed to commit these murders, altho there was an occasion when Piedad seemed suspicious. Anyhow I think it is someone with surgical experience.
I hope Camila gets it good; what an awful thing to do, and to your own sister, too!!!

I LOVE Fantasma, it's so over the top, and the Gemela is SO bad. So is Dulce. I think between the two of them and Kalima, they've killed at least 10 people, many of them major characters! I think La Nena Ochoa and Anacleto are hilarious. And being a guy, I love the beautiful ladies, especially Corina and Milady.
On Alguien te Mira, it looks as if they're trying to make us think it's Mauricio, the reporter. But it really could be anyone. I'm hoping it's Benjamin. He's terrible, cheating on his wife with her sister and her cousin.
It's just one big mishmash of Telemundo chitchat. I'm trying to post something weekly. If people show a lot of interest, maybe Jean and I can do something more frequent. But it won't be a full, daily recap of any show because we don't have the folks to write them.
I'm focusing mostly on Aurora in my comments because that's my favorite.
Hombre de Misterio, from your description, it does sound as if I missed out on a fabulously bad novela in Fantasma. But fortunately, there will be others, many, many others. LOL.
Funniest moment of Aurora so far...when they froze Eduardo (the rich guy) and started dumping those refrigerator ice cubes from a Ziplock bag on him. Lol!
Now it's one of my favorite novelas.
Also, thank you for the summaries.
Kara
Yes, lots of barely containled lady flesh. I love the little tug that every one of the women has to give on the skirt of their short, short dresses before sitting down. Of the guys, Eduardo doesn't do much for me. Montecristo and Walter are kind of cute as is Michel.
I'm betting that Andrea will be saved somehow. She has to end up with Walter, I think.
1. Cryonics doesn't cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. If you factor in the stabilization surgery it is well under $200k. Normal middle-class people routinely pay that much for heart surgery to live another couple years.
2. Organ donations typically come from patients that die from head trauma. Most patients do not die of head trauma, they die of organ failure. In this case, the brain takes quite some time to deteriorate beyond reversibility.
3. Cryonics is not about denying the inevitability of death, but of denying premature certainty of death. Our current notions of what is "dead" are likely to become obsolete. And if we don't know a patient is truly dead we shouldn't give up taking care of them.
4. It's commonly accepted in neuroscience that the brain stores its memories based on its structure, not electric fields, elan vital, or any such nonsense. It does not make a difference if it has been 10 seconds or 10 centuries after they were frozen. The damage that needs to be undone will have all been done by that point.

Aurora i have say is quirky with the cryogenic plot but it looks like it will be fun. I'm just having a hard time keeping a straight face when i see Jorge Luis Pila dancing as a instructor. Funny i didn't have the same reation when Eugenio Siller was doing the same thing:)
Algiuen Te Mira i love murder mysteries and this is a good one, my main suspects are Julian and Mauricio both are creepy.Rodrigo has been too far gone on drugs when some of the murders have happened. Benjamin is a first class jerk first his wife's sister then their cousin. Not to mention the countless women he has slept with that he has met at his clinic. When Tatiana finds out he's a goner for sure.Eva Zanetti she is all over the place accusing this one and that nor is she very objective i like how the female detective kept warning her about Julian and not to tell him everything. But she didn't listen so now she's off the case.
Like others i love El Fantasma De Elena i'm glad i have somewhere to go now to speak about this novela.I used to talk about it on youtube with others but the copyright problems sometimes make it impossible. I remember someone telling me about the original version and they were complaining about how they killed off Benjamin so early in the story here and that he was the main villain. I told that person don't worry this novela has too many villains to make up for the death of Benjamin.
So villain number one crazy gemela Elena Calcano some still thought she was Daniela Calcano her twin everyone always said it was Daniela who was the crazy one. Yet and still Eduardo slept with her and got her pregnant.Turns out it was always Elena Calcano who was the crazy one and she is responsible for the deaths of Benjamin,Mariela,Samuel, some unknown woman Benjamin had kept drugged up and had her roaming the house as Elena Calcano's ghost. Also she killed her own sister, she tortures her own mother after discovering her nanny was in actuality her mother that gave the twins up for adoption. This chick all shades of LOCO how she passed her mental therapy test when she was locked up for deliberately setting the house on fire when she listened on Latona and Eduardo discussing to have her locked up i don't know. Certainly every single one of those doctors need their license revoked. That's four murders she is responsible for so far and two others that she is accomplice with.
Dulce she is a greedy opportunist piece of work and a stone cold killer. She is responsible Cristina's a former maid's death because she was telling Mariela what she suspected about Dulce doctoring up Margot's medicine. She murdered Margot from the drugs in her medication, in directly responsible for Vicki's death that would be Rebecca's late friend who was killed during a escaped from prison after they hit and ran over Dulce's son.Responsible for Tomas who was Elena Lafe's father death, a hooker's death so she can hook up with Elena Lafe's former lawyer Tulio who she has just killed. So that's six murders she is responsible for and it has been hinted at how the other women Eduardo used to date either disappeared or were murdered mysteriously since we know she is in cahoots with Montecristo i believe both have something to do with that.
Jean i agree also somehow Andrea will be saved and she'll end up with Walter.
The reason why no one believes in Nena is because she scammed Corrina out of her money in the beginning. Her and Anacelto i'm hoping tonight they get Elena Lafe's baby away from the crazy gemela. I know the crazy gemela was shocked to hear her dead twin's voice coming out of Nena last night.
Dario was told by Dulce where Ruth lived to save her from being killed by Montecristo and Kalima. They are cooking up another greedy plot to get their hands on Elena's Lafe's inheritance. Whatever those papers that Dario is trying to get Ruth to sign has to do with will or him being in charge of the will.Seems like the money Margot was giving i think monthly for Ruth to use. Tulio the lawyer was keeping it for himself.
I'm hoping Dario catches Dulce with Montecristo tonight and he realizes how duped he's been by her. Right now he barely has her under his control because he took their son away from her and is hiding him. Dulce has people following him to try to locate their son once she finds him she plans on killing him.
Crazy gemela has told Montecristo to kill both Eduardo and Elena Lafe after last night. When Eduardo told her for the last time he doesn't love her and never will that E.L. is the only woman for him.Montecrisot along with Dulce want E.L. to be killed to get their hands on her inheritance.
The race for the will Eduardo and detecive/lawyer Martin are trying to keep Dario,Montecristo and Dulce away from taking E.L. money and businesses.
Wildcard Margot wrote up her last will with Tulio leaving everything to Elena Lafe, she gave the will to Mariela E.L. step mother along with Tomas. They were at a hotel the night they heard about the fire.Mariela died in the fire and Tomas was in the hospital for almost a year. The doll that Elena Lafe carries around with her i strongly suspect has Margot's last will and testament in it so whatever shenanigans Dulce,Dario,Gemela and Montecristo try to pull to get a hold of Elena Lafe's inheritance will all be for naught.
There's a lot of crazies in this novela, villains running amok and about 15 murders now this is a novela.
I think the former prison guard Chaparro who is now Rebecca's personal body guard is Michel's real mother.
Wondering why big butts are so favored on telemundo. Notice the stuffing on several women in every one I've watched. Surely it's not a Miami thing! Lois
Kara, I'm glad you're enjoying Aurora!
Lois -- you found us! Remember, once this discussion disappears from the main page, you can always retrieve it through its bookmark at "El Clon: Recaps".
Blusamurai, You think crazy Lucie is the next victim on Alguien te mira? If she is, I hope it happens before she does any more harm to Lola!
Shallowgal when Jorge Luis Pila is doing his salsa moves i can feel him with that but trying to act like he's Bob Fosse aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh NO. Maybe it's because i've seen him in a lot of novelas so i can't identify him being like that for this role. But since he's a cutie i can forgive him for the cringe worthy dance moves as a dance instructor.
EFDE i agree Michel is a little hottie he played in Donde Esta Elisa? Walter is cute too, Eduardo is starting to grow on me a little listen when he was wearing that mullett hairstyle i was like get this man to a barber please.Montecristo is hot but he's so darn evil.I think they have a lot of cute ranch hands running around at the Giron estates taking care of the horses. Martin is cuddly smart as a whip and sweet i think he might end up with Laura. Some of you who watch STUD are always saying how Gaby doesn't have a great suitor well neither does Laura and she almost lost her life being drugged and kidnapped by Benjamin.Talk about far smarter than the main heroine hands down i would killed off Elena Lafe and replace her with Laura already.
On Aurora the girl playing Vanessa's daughter was Elisa on Donde Esta Elisa.
Matilda1, Yeah, last night it seemed like Aurora was asking herself that very same question: Why not just tell people who she really is?
I think that at first, she was just swept up in her parents' lies. Now that she is getting stronger, physically and emotionally, she'd like to tell the truth. But there are a few reasons to hesitate:
--She's afraid of Blanca's reaction. Would she turn on her? Would she feel Aurora had made a fool of her? Remember, Blanca's been telling Aurora about things (like her sex life) that she would never have told her mother.
--She's afraid of being rejected by Lorenzo. By pretending to be someone else for a while, she has a chance to find out where she stands. It's like the fantasy of eavesdropping at your own funeral!
But I guess we'll know more as the story unfolds.
What I found disconcerting about last night's scene between Lorenzo and Aurora was the blood. First we see blood dripping on a hand. Then a few scenes later, it's clear that Aurora has a nosebleed. That can't be a good thing...
I'm liking this novela even though I'm still playing catch up.Lois
