Llena de Amor #63 Mon 11/8/10 Hearts afire, among other things

Friday: Paula has a bad feeling. Me too. Begoña offed, the baby abandoned by the roadside, Oliver shot, Bernardo and Fedra dragging Gretel away, Marianela having another spell.

*******

Eman tells Mari she has to get to a doctor first thing tomorrow. She wants to go home. He says he wants to be with her tonight. They kiss. I feel better!

At the big casa, Paula and Benigno are preparing a welcome-home for the new beauty queen, flowers and music and everything. Brandon comes into the living room with Nereida in her civvies (a sexy dress) in tow, looking for her, but the Nereida says she left with Eman.

Eman is telling Mari that she’s beautiful – she shyly says no man has ever said that to her. He tells her he wants to be with her forever. More besos. Oops! He’s taking off his coat. Mari says she’s scared he’ll just evaporate. He says he wants to love her completely, which is usually an icky come-on line, but this is our Eman, so it’s actually sincere. More besos.

The two mafiosos are having a beer. The bald one feels bad about what they’ve done. Not the woman so much, but abandoning the baby. They get a call from Lorenzo in jail. He says he has a little problem, but there better not be a scratch on that baby, or he’s siccing the big boss on them. The non-bald one tells Lorenzo everything’s fine and hangs up. The two guys laugh and head out to find the baby.

At the hospital, Emil calls home to reach Fedra, but gets Axel, who says she’s not there. Emil wonders where the hell she is.

Fedra and Bernardo have dragged Gretel into a clinic, into a padded cell in fact. Fedra tells her that one day she’s going to thank her for separating her from that policeman. No, no no! protests Gretel. Boo, hiss, boo!

Mari and Eman are in bed, but fully clothed. She says she’s dreamed of this moment. He love-talks her. More besos, lots of candles. Adjusting her glasses, she tells him she’s never been with a man. He says they can just hug.

Gretel sobs to her mother that she is her living conscience, the conscience she never had. Fedra is an excrescence, she killed her tio, and now her lover. Fedra tells her that where she comes from, survival is everything, and to survive, you get rid of whatever stands in your way. Kill me too! Gretel begs. Fedra strokes her face and hair and tells her that death is a prize, and she hasn’t earned it. Better they leave her here. Bernardo throws Gretel against the upholstered walls and he and Fedra knock to get out. They leave and Gretel freaks out.

Marianela tells Eman that she’s afraid her she won’t please him, meaning her body. Aw, poor kid. But he tells her he’s crazy about her, and he’s discovering himself what real love feels like. Meantime, her powerful superstructure bra juts a huge breast skyward like Mt. Everest, almost dwarfing Eman. That alone could inspire a fellow, I’m thinking.

The two baddies drive back to where they left the baby in a pile of branches, but it’s gone!

Brandon asks Axel if Eman has a bachelor pad or something where he could have taken Mari – he’s worried that she’s okay. Axel gets mad and says she’s not the victim, Kristel is. Why, she was taken straight from the contest to the hospital. Axel tells him to get out, but Brandon plops down on a couch, folds his arms defiantly and starts waiting.

For some reason, there’s a breeze in the lovers’ chambers, we can tell from the candles. The hot winds of love? Mari wants Eman to snuff them all out so he can’t see her, but he wants to soak her in. Things get hot and heavy, and we can see a bare arm, so she has her shirt off at least. Maybe everything!

The baddies are circling the neighborhood in their mobmobile, looking for the baby, but no luck. The bald guy tells the other one that if Lorenzo tells the boss about it, it’s all his (the other guy’s) fault. Okay, says the other guy, inexplicably. They keep looking.

It’s getting even hottier and heavier! Eman wants Mari to feel completely desired. If it weren’t for the gutting candles in the foreground and a huge bouquet of roses, we might see things that would make us blush.

Outside the clinic, Fedra tells Dr Peralta he knows what he’s to do. He tells her not to worry, he’ll take good care of her daughter. He walks off a little heavy-hearted maybe. Fedra and Bernardo figure they need to go get rid of Oliver’s body. Fedra thinks it would be a good idea to burn the cabin. Brilliant! says Bernardo.

Papito! Calls out Gretel, troubling deaf heaven with her bootless cries. Get me out of here!

In the cabin, we see Oliver, wounded in the chest, but trying to get up to save his damsel in distress.

Axel still wants Brandon to leave, but he says he’s glued to the spot until Mari comes home. He gets a call – Oliver! He’s on his way.

Ceiling shot of Mari and Eman in passionate embrace.

Brandon’s GPS must’ve gotten him to the cabin (Calle del Bosque, turn left at the toadstools) because it looks like he beat Fedra and Bernardo there. Maybe they stopped off for matches, a hot dog and a can of gasoline at the Seven Eleven. Brandon carries his friend out, swearing Fedra’s going to pay.

Oliver doesn’t want to go to the hospital because the police are looking for him. He doesn’t want to be behind bars where he can’t find Gretel and save her.

Fedra and Bernardo arrive with, sure enough, big cans of gasoline. Though it’s raining, Fedra splashes hers around on the outside, and Bernardo does the inside. Neither seems very concerned about keeping the gas off themselves, but what the hey. While happily splashing the furniture inside, Bernardo realizes Oliver isn’t there. He rushes out to tell Fedra, and they realize they can say they came and shot Oliver because he had kidnapped Gretel. Perfect! But Fedra just can’t resist, she throws a lighted match. Bernardo is furious – how will they explain a fire?

Bernardo literally tries to drag Fedra from the scene, but she shakes him off, transfixed by the fire. How like the burning boat it is! she exclaims. Look at those flames!

It’s morning now, and Axel is having breakfast, while Delicia, Nereida, Benigno and Paula wonder where Marianela and Fedra are – their beds weren’t slept in. Delicia figures Marianela spent the night at her aunt’s, and says she’s got good sense. Axel gets mad at her for always defending Mari, who’s not a good person.

In come Fedra and Bernardo who said they were trying to rescue Gretel, and they had a good lead, but the policeman got away. Axel tells her that Emil is at the hospital with Kristal, who lost her baby, but is going to be okay.

We’re in Kristel’s hospital room. Kristel’s asleep, and so are Emil, who has fallen asleep on the couch, and Netty, who has fallen asleep against him. She awakes and thinks how lovely it is to wake up next to him. He awakens and goes to Kristel’s bedside. She feels hot, maybe a fever. Netty takes a look and realizes she’s hemorrhaging.

In another bed, Mari wakes up to find Eman looking at her adoringly. Lots of love talk. He’s joyful, and says she’s all his. More kisses. Miraculously, the candles are still burning.

The doctor tells Emil and Netty that it’s serious – they’re going to have to do an emergency hysterectomy. No babies in Kristel’s future.

Dr Peralta tells the psych nurse that Gretel is schizophrenic and dangerous. Also, if anybody inquires after her, the nurse is to say that there’s no one at the clinic by that name. He tells her to give Gretel a double injection. The nurse protests that it’s dangerous. He tells her to hop to it, he’s ready to start electro shock therapy. The nurse is worried that that’s inhuman, the injections alone should suffice. The doctor orders her to do as told. The nurse approaches Gretel, who must be already drugged, because she’s asleep.

At Netty’s the ladies (minus Netty) all wonder how Begoña is doing on her flight to Italy, and they say the house seems so empty without her and the baby. They hope Marianela shows up before Netty finds out she’s missing. Yowza! Here comes Brandon, with bleeding and agonizing Oliver, who he plops on the couch.

Gretel awakes just as the nurse is about to inject her. She asks her to let her leave. The nurse strokes her forehead and says everything will be okay. No! Fedra! whispers Gretel. The nurse injects her and she drifts off into drugland.

The nurse looks at the syringe and says to herself that a double dose would kill Gretel. She decides not to follow orders.

Oliver is in Gladiola’s arms and Brandon rebukes him for running off. Brandon says he’s going to do things the legal way, and off he heads do Do the Right Thing, though I have no idea what that is.

He’s going to turn me in! wails Oliver, who wants to leave, but Gladiola wants him to wait for the doctor.

Eman has taken Mari to a big patio restaurant which is completely empty, which must mean a big savings on extras. He tells her that they make the best quesadillas in Mexico, though it’s puzzling that nobody is there ordering them up. Mari says she felt good after exercising, and he says he’ll be her personal trainer. They gaze into one another’s eyes.

Ilitia has dialed up her mama and while she’s waiting for her to answer, their maid tells her to just let her mother enjoy her vacation, and tell her later. Ilitia tells her to mind her own business and get back to making breakfast, and also that she happens to be very tactful at delivering bad news. This I gotta see.

Ilitia tells her mother that while she’s off lying around the beach, her husband is in jail. Great tact, says the maid. Ilitia smirks.

Mauricio’s cousin Lorena comes to see him in jail. Other jailbirds leer, and so does Lorenzo, who thoughtbubbles that she’s hot. She tells him she couldn’t reach his father who’s still missing, and his mother is on vacation in South Africa. He asks her to get hold of the family lawyers. She tells him that Kristel just lost their baby, and why didn’t he tell her about Kristel being pregnant?

Axel tells Nereida he’s going to go see Kristel in this hospital. Nereida observes that he and Kristel used to fight like cats and dogs. He’s surprised. Anyway, he says, she’s a good friend of my girlfriend. Nereida can’t believe he has a girlfriend. Of course, he says, Lorena. Nereida says the one who came here and threw a big scene because you rejected her? Axel asks her to explain. She asks him when he came to be interested in women, because from what she heard, his tastes were um… different.

In the hospital corridor, Netty tells Emil that Kristel needs lots of love right now. He sighs that he wishes Fedra were like Netty. Netty would have been such a wonderful mother to his children. They can’t turn the clock back, but there’s still the present. His marriage to Fedra is shot. He asks Netty for a hug, just a hug. She hesitates, then hugs him.

Fedra of course walks by and sees. She comes over and fake-calmly asks them what they’re doing.

Mari and Eman are walking in a park, and are remembering when their parents brought them there as kids and they played together. Mari finally confesses that she was in love with him since she was a kid, and that she’d always dreamed of being with him. He’s touched by the knowledge and says he will always be with her. In fact, one day, he is going to marry her.

Avances: Mari and Eman are still missing, lost in their little love bubble. Gladiola reassures Netty that they’ll show up. Mari and Eman ride horses, carve their initials in a tree, kiss. He proposes, they walk up the aisle of a church. They know they’ll have to face the family.

I was gone this past week, and so I caught up on everything by reading the recaps. Thank you one and all – they were just terrific. I am honored to be on a team with such amazing writers. And such wonderful comments!

Maggie, this is inspired. Very droll, very clever and very funny. Thanks.
And you are certainly right about your group of recappers... stellar.

Wow, so much is going on at once. I'm loving this show even though it abandoned any semblance of verisimilitude sometime back.

Gretel's in Hell, but maybe has a guardian angel (that nurse). Those planned electroshock treatments can't be good for the little Oliverito incubating in her womb (I see no way for her not to be pregnant with her and Oliver going at it like little bunny rabbits at every opportunity).

Nereida ha certainly given a bewildered Axel a lot of food for thought. "Hmmm, so I'm gay... I knew that Lorena chick didn't smell right."

So Manny did have more than a nice dinner and a little snuggling planned with Mari? Well, OK... I guess. Is that all there is?

I'm guessing that little Cristian will somehow find his way back to the naco dorm, and in case they don't recognize him right off, he's wearing his special little religious medal.

No babies for Cristal? Maybe not such a bad thing when you think about it, but a really stiff price to pay for being a mean, insensitive, selfish bitchlet. She hasn't killed anyone, after all.

I'm really looking forward to more.

Carlos

And Maggie, you are definitely one of those on this amazing team. I love the combination of detail and funny comments. "her powerful superstructure bra juts a huge breast skyward like Mt. Everest, almost dwarfing Eman. That alone could inspire a fellow, I’m thinking." was my favorite. And exactly what I was thinking watching that side shot.

But Eman, what a sweetie. He takes the smooziest lines and just makes them sincere, as you pointed out. One of the aspects of Valentino's acting that I like. It may have seemed a bit soon to get to this point for Mari, but I think it was more the writers' decision to make the point that Eman did love her as she was, not after she will appear all slim and sexy, which we know is coming.

But of course, all this sweetness will only last so long, so I'll just enjoy these two before the TN gods start messing with them.

Fedra - nut case. Any chance she set that fire on the boat? She freaks with fire, but seems to get into it just a bit too much. And poor Gretel. I cannot even deal with what she is doing to that girl.I say Fedra's end needs to involve fire...and I'll leave it there.

And now we get to play baby, where's the baby? I still don't want Begona offed, but being she didn't show, I'm thinking she is a goner. Why do I feel like maybe Muneca will wind up with this little one?

Maggie, you have revealed that you have the soul of a poet, and I quote: "troubling deaf heaven with her bootless cries". Simply divine wordsmithing there amiga. And hey, a new word for my vocabulary, excrescence; I can't wait to use it!

Daisy, I'm still kinda hoping that Begonia was alive and managed to sneak out of the trunk to save her baby but I know that's a long shot. If not, is her body still in the trunk? Those bad guys are lame. Carlos, good tip about Christian's medal, that will surely help ID him.

Maggie, terrific recap!!

Maggie...ditto all those who said terrific recap. And always a super title as well.

Like Daisynjay, I was tickled by the Mount Everest observation and thought the exact same thing. With that projectile in view, clearly Eman was going to reach criterion behavior one way or another.

Also liked your musings on Bernardo and crazy Fedra stopping by a Seven Eleven for a hot dog as well as gasoline and matches. And Brandon's fantasy GPS..too funny. As Carlos said, all semblance of verisimilitude long gone, but who cares. Keep the action coming!

I too was thinking about the rapid seduction of our chunky virgin and came to the same conclusion as DaisynJay...it's to show us all that Eman's love is pure and deep and not based on mere physical attraction...or conformity to prevailing standards of beauty. Nooooo...he luves her beeyutiful soul. Fine. He's adorable so I'm willing to buy what he's selling.

Thanks Maggie. Good to have you back because we love your comments as well as your fine recaps.

Wow. Excellent recap Maggie. So Eman and Mari did make love and he was very sweet and gentle with her. I especially loves these lines, "Meantime, her powerful superstructure bra juts a huge breast skyward like Mt. Everest, almost dwarfing Eman. That alone could inspire a fellow, I’m thinking." And this: "It’s getting even hottier and heavier! Eman wants Mari to feel completely desired. If it weren’t for the gutting candles in the foreground and a huge bouquet of roses, we might see things that would make us blush."

I heard a break in the music which suggests that Uni got itchy fingers with the love scene. I wonder if the unedited version is available on YouTube.

I was glad when Nereida told Stepford Axel that he once played for the other team. Maybe now he will start to remember things instead of believing Fedra's lies. So since Kristel didn't want the baby she will never be able to have anymore children with the hysterectomy. I guess karma came back and bit her.

What was with Fedra's fascination with the fire? Maybe it's foreshadowing of where she will spend her eternity no doubt.

I wonder who found baby Cristian?

Is anyone else turned off by the fact that they are first primos thats just to close in the family tree for me no matter how sweet Eman is to Mari. At times I find him extremely selfish this character reminds me of Tontas where he didnt care who got hurt so long as he was happy.

I wonder if the same thing that happened to Begone happened to Iti's real mom.

I think the baby also had a birthmark on the palm of his hand looked like a mole (I could be wrong)so that and the medal may prove who he is.

Whew, Maggie. This episode was smokin' in so many ways, and you did it justice and then some. Great title.

Is Marianela the first person in the history of telenovelas to acknowledge the existence of morning breath? That was funny. I still think Mr. Smooth-Moves Emanuel talked her into it a bit too much and should have gone with a longer seduction, but she seemed happy so oh well. Yeah, when the camera gets embarrassed and has to hide behind the flowers, you know things are a little too hot and heavy for our delicate eyes.

Nice to know that in Mexico City, you can wear all black and buy several big jugs of gasoline and a shovel late at night, and no one will alert the police to keep an eye on you. When Fedra wiped her hands on her clothes after handling the gas, I was really hoping she'd set herself on fire and be horribly disfigured and in pain for the rest of the show, but no such luck. Even all the grass and trees around the cabin didn't catch fire. Amazing.

THANK YOU, NEREIDA! It's about time someone started telling Stepford Axel how different he is now than he was before the head injury. Can't any of his real friends come around and have a chat with him?

Thank you all! You are very generous with your kind comments.

Sylvia – you have a connoisseur’s eye for writing – the line about troubling deaf heaven isn’t mine – it’s the Bard’s, from one of his sonnets! I was hesitant to use it, as it has the word “bootless” which we don’t use any more. Bootless = ineffective.

Speaking of poetry, the love scene with shy Mari and Eman reminded me of Leonard Cohen’s lovely line “When you call me close to tell me your body isn’t beautiful I want my hands to be pools for your looking and your laughing.” Remember Leonard Cohen, children of the 60s? I hope I got his line right.

Ebony – yes, the primo thing is unsettling. Of course, we know Eman will turn out to be the son of the ship captain, but he and Mari don’t know it. Maybe it’s a cultural thing that primos aren’t as forbidden as they are here. Tia Carlota had stated that it might be accepted in lower-class families, but not in hers.

The other thing that I found unsettling is that Mari never seemed to relax. I mean! This was her dream come true and though it’s understandable that she was shy and uncomfortable at first, it would have been nice to see a scene where she was staring at sleeping Eman, all goggly-eyed and ecstatic.

Maggie, I'm going to bring back "bootless." I will have so many opportunities to use it, I am sure. Great word. I need to try to remember "excrescence" too.

I always thought the cousin-marrying was an upper class thing, not lower. Doesn't it happen because the upper classes don't want to mingle with anyone they consider lowly, so they have a lot fewer options? Whereas there are plenty of middle-class and poor people to choose from.

Thanks for the recap Maggie and exposing us to culture via Willie the Shake.

ITA w/those of you who are happy Nereida told Axel about he's personality transplant. I just hope he doesn't become depressed again.

Perhaps Mari wasn't singing to the skies b/c Eman is still "supposed" to be her primo. Once that's no longer true then I hope she'll feel more comfortable.

Julia - you're right! I hadn't thought about it. Royalty got terribly inbred due to the cousin thing.

hey there, well I've been MIA for a LOOOOOOONNNNNG time, haven't seen a TV in as long, but was missing my Caray buddies for a while, finally figured I should just look for a post and say hello. I might need to find the TV again, I know my Spanish will fade if I don't keep at it.

So not knowing anything about this show, I'll comment on the comments.

I always understood the first cousin thing was a little more calculated. True they don't want to mingle with the commoners, but mostly it's that they don't want their riches/ruling rights going out of the family. A cousin allows control to remain within the family tree, yet far enough away to limit biological defect issues. Anyway, lovely thoughts.

Hope all are well, I'm hanging in there, thinking I need to gear up for the holidays early this year, not believing the year is already almost done....sheesh.

Any one have any stories, feel free to send them along...

Thanks for the recap Maggie, if I start watching again, I'll have to do the same thing, catch up through the recaps...

I'll look for an opportunity to use excrescence and bootless.... :)

In a lot of European cultures, marrying a first or second cousin was not considered wrong, just maybe socially unacceptable in society, but it still happened.the disaster with Queen Victoria's children and their in-bredding with cousins and the hemophilia and illnesses that wiped out the group, put a bit more "royal" discouragement to the practice into the 20th century.

However, still in England well into the WWII era, you could still see it happen in some of the novels, where cousins would fall in love and marry. Often, the decision would be to not sire children by the characters involved.

Apparently since it only raises a bit of an eyebrow on this TN among the characters, maybe it's still not considered "awful" or unacceptable.

I remember Jarocha saying that it's not terribly uncommon for cousins to marry in Mexico. She mentioned that it seemed to happen a lot among the wealthy people in Guadalajara, that she had noticed.

It's not illegal or anything, but some families/segments of society don't approve. The RydT family has been shown to not approve, although Marianela doesn't seem to have ever thought it was an issue. Emanuel started off thinking they could never be together, but then he fell in love with her. I wonder how much his suspicions that he is not Emiliano's biological son factored into his feeling free to go ahead with it.

Actually, Manny was told by Tio Maximo (where has that old coot been lately?) that Emiliano isn't his daddy. I'm pretty sure that Manny asked Fedra who his real father is as well as confronted Emiliano with the fact that he was born 7 mos. after the wedding. I don't however think that Marianela has any idea or even cares that they are not related. Marianela also broke her word to Tia Carlota to keep it cousin-like between her and Manny. Didn't notice a lot of remorse on her part either.

Kris! How great to hear from you. I really have missed you these past weeks. If I'm not mistaken, I believe that this show is directed by the same lady who brought us Gancho.

Carlos

Fedra categorically denied that Emanuel's father is anyone other than Emiliano, with her usual how-dare-you-insult-me melodrama, and Emiliano, bless his naive little heart, seems to really believe that Emanuel was two months premature. So Emanuel may be pretty sure that he and Mari aren't cousins genetically, but he has no proof that we've seen.

Marianela seems to be treating Carlota in the way a lot of people treat older relatives, especially ones they don't know well: tell them what they want to hear, then go ahead and do whatever you were going to do anyway.

Special hola to you Carlos, I have missed seeing Bonne Bell in various poses...and have been wondering how y'all are doing these days - I will have to look through old posts to seee what has been happening! :)

Thank you for the hilarious, brilliant, and poetic recap!

I did a quick search on Wikipedia, and Cousin' Lovin' is still legal in many states (but illegal—partially or—in 30 states). I always grew up thinking that it was something I would never consider doing, but that it wasn't nearly as creepy as, say, siblings marrying. I recall some family friends had relatives visit from out of state (I think from the Midwest or South) and they were cousins who had married. It was weird at the time, but they seemed like "normal" people.

I agree with the others here—I think the rush to bed with Eman and Mari was because they have to demonstrate that Eman loves her regardless of how she looks. So in that way, they kind of had to have them take the plunge now. But it still feels too soon.

Let me be a dissenting voice in this Eman & Mari situation. I do understand that the writers are trying to show that true beauty is not physical, but ladies and gentlemen, I know a seduction scene when I see one. Emanuel had one thing on his mind when he set up that studio and that was to have sex with Marianela. All his moves were pure seduction. The problem I have with this is that Mari came straight out of a convent school. She knows nothing about men or how to even recognize a seduction scene. How was she going to resist Emanuel since she's been in love with him since childhood. He knows that and knew she'd be ripe for the picking. I'm not saying that he doesn't love her, but Emanuel is a little immature at times. He's decided he's in love with Mari so instead of giving time for love to grow and flourish, what's the first thing he does? Seduce Marianela. Not exactly a mature act and once again, the boy-man is thinking lower instead of higher.

True. Mari is too young and sheltered for all that seduction. I, however, am old and wise. Come try those moves on me, Emanuel. We'll see if they work as well. Resistance will be fun.

Bernardo is turning out to be a big disappointment as a bad guy. Is there any job he hasn't botched? He certainly is impressive looking... verrry creepy with that winning smile, but por favor! One shot for Oliver? It's not as though there's a shortage of bullets in Mexico. And his on-going poisoning of Marianela... how's that goin'? Time for Fedra to put aside her sentimentality and make a trade. I kinda favor the bald guy with a soft spot for babies. He should be available very soon.

Carlos

Maggie, shame on me for not recognizing the bard, and I was even an English Lit major for pete's sake!! At least I'm consistent and I have occasionally used his quotes or words for recaps but mostly for titles.

Kris, great to hear from you!! Glad you could drop in.

As someone suggested I'm now wondering what happened to Ilitia's blood mama.
