La Verdad Oculta #55: Ambushed

* At Leonardo's flat Ramón tries to explain how he lost sight of Fausto. Leo is nervous: how on Earth could that man disappear?! However, Ramón did see two men leaving the house and he describes Abelardo and Mario. Hmm. Mario Genovés may be connected to the case of Santiago Guzmán since he and Adolfo Ávila talked about Marta.

* Elsa learns for Caramelo that she and JJ will play the girl's parents at Angie's party and as usual she gets very pissed off at Juan José.

* Adolfo visits his wounded captive to talk about the millions he spent on him - for nothing! Roberto he swears he did kill Mario, he saw him burning, he can't be alive! Please don't hurt Smeagol. Adolfo lets him go but he has to kill Mario for good and all. And if he fails again...

* Alejandra is looking for a jewel in Bertha's drawer and discovers the bracelet Adolfo gave to her sister. Bertha admits it's from Dracula and he gave it to her for Gabriela's photos. Alejandra doesn't understand why he needs those photos, and how could Bertha do that?

* Daddy JJ and Limón have a fight over the "Elsa & JJ are Mom & Dad" fairytale, JJ's sudden wish to adopt Caramelo, that vieja (old) Alejandra, Elsa and Medina and the good old "you hurt Elsita's feelings" issue. But all Asunción can achieve with his arguments is a big kiss on his cheek.

* Adolfo asks Yolanda about Faidella. What did he say to her? Don't leave town? Anything else? Nothing. It seems he doesn't suspect anything about Adolfo.

* Susana reads The Letter. She learns Dora is David's mom and gets to know a new name: Carlos Ávila.

* In the villa David and Gabriela talk about their relationship, Carlos and her male friends for the 1000th time. Actually, she asked Carlos about the photo. And why did he meet Leo? Because he's a good friend of her and believe it or not, she has problems, too! But she only loves him, David, and she knows he loves her, too, that's why she stayed. At last the brain cells of David start to work again and Gaby's sweetness and persistent love melts his heart. They hug each other.

* Leonardo follows Fausto to a hotel and while the old man is on the 14th floor he's waiting for him in the hall. And once again, Mario and Abelardo show up instead of Fausto. He greets the men and ask about Fausto to which they respond he's still in his room. However, he learns from the receptionist that although Sr. Genovés did book a room, there is no reservation for Fausto Guillén.

* In the car Fausto tells Abelardo about Leonardo, Gabriela and the tomb of Marta. Both men are scared and Fausto states they'll have to do something about this!

* David and Gaby complain to each other about their fathers. Mario's changed so much, and they both act so strangely lately. In fact, Mario's tantrum reminds Gaby on her father. Doorbell. Adolfo storms into Mario's study and a few minutes later Mario shows up too. In the study Adolfo sets out his demands: David forgets that audit and Mario gives a flat to his nieces because they are his blood while David is just an adopted son. If Mario doesn't obey then he'll tell everything to the police... and to David. A month ago Mario would panic but this new guy just laughs in loser Adolfo's face. Let's see, what would happen if everyone found out David isn't his son? Nothing, he adopted him legally. And as for the murder of Marta: come on, he has no proof, only his word against Mario's and surely the word of a jewel-smuggler doesn't count for a lot. Yes, yes, he does know about the investigations of Leonardo Faidella. Adolfo is sincerely surprised at Mario's new-found strength and says he seems like a completely different man.

* Susana asks Gaby about her past and says once they met in Sagitario: when she and her "husband" celebrated their anniversary. Gabriela finally recognizes her and she's pleasantly surprised. Sue keeps babbling about her luck for being so beautiful and for finding a rich, loyal husband... And by the way, does Sr. Abelardo live in the neighbouring house? Gaby admits she doesn't know where Abe lives. One more question: does her father-in-law wear a wig? What?! No, Gaby doesn't think so.

* After Dolphie leaves Mario and Abelardo show David the famous contract. David can't comprehend how could Mario accept those conditions, especially that ridiculous clause of death! He takes the contract to examine it closely. After he leaves Fausto has a tantrum. Again. He is about to leave when Abelardo discovers that the order of the books has changed... and the letter's disappeared! Fausto thinks that stupid Bertha's surely switched the books, and orders Abe to keep looking for the letter.

* The party of Angie becomes a nightmare for poor Caramelo: when Elsa finds out she has to spend the afternoon in the same room with JJ she decides to leave, and while JJ and Medina are having a conversation about their private life in his study (oh yeah, Elsa is my girlfriend), in the living the room the illiterate kid loses a raffle and gets humiliated by Angie.

* Leonardo gives up waiting for Fausto and leaves the hotel.

* Adolfo confesses Yolanda he's very worried about Mario, he knows about Faidella and their smuggling operation! But how could this happen? Did the waitresses' father tell him about the diamonds? He wants to talk with Fausto immediately!

* Fausto got rid of his Mario outfit and tries to leave the neighbourhood through the Genovés villa. However, Susana notices them and her smile isn't too promising.

* In the hotel apartment Caramelo is fuming about the party and the bike she lost. JJ promises to buy her a great bicycle, he gives the money to Asunción and says he is going to visit Elsa. Limón protests, and the men argue about Elsa and Alejandra again. *Viewerville: yawn*

* David and Gaby visit his lawyer who affirms the contract is absurd and it's strange that a businessman like Mario would've ever accepted it's conditions.

* When Fausto arrives at home Leonardo's voice welcomes him in front of the flat: are you Santiago Guzmán?

That video of Gabriel Soto was amazing, Aribeth! I would have never guessed he had that in him, LOL.

Thanks Jeri for the links.

Can't wait to read Aribeth's summary.

Loved the picture of Fausto, and your title says it all. After having to deal with David and Adolfo he thought he did ok, and was going home to relax then he was scared out of his pants by a voice (it was Leo's wasn't it) asking if he was Santiago Guzman (am I correct). How is he going to get out of that one.

I felt bad for Roberto, the way he was sitting on the couch curled up and frightened. He hasn't cleaned up since his beating, and also confused since he knows that Mario is dead and yet Adolfo keeps insisting that he is alive and well. Now Adolfo wants him to finish the job since he did get paid, and now Roberto is even more scared. Poor Roberto, he was having such a good time partying with lots of women and now he is in hell.

What was the kid's game that had Caramelo so upset. I didn't get it, only that JJ gave money to Limon to buy her the best bike.

Well at least David and Gabi made up, but it looks like Elsa and JJ can' be in the same room together as yet.

What about the look on JJ's face when Mauricio said that Elsa was now his girlfriend. So funny.

So that was Dor'a letter that Susana found. From what I understood she said "Dora is David's mother", ok, but then she said Carlos Avila. Why did she say his name.

So Bertha told Ale she took the photos. What is Ale going to do with that info now.

Jeri- Thanks for setting up the page for the recap, with such a perfect picture. This actor really does make the best faces. I love how he fought fire with fire with Adolfo this episode. Adolfo was shocked that "Mario" could play fierce and dirty like that. LOL!

Aribeth- I am looking forward to your take on last night's events.

Margaret- It was Angie, Medina's niece at the party. Medina had bought this bike to be raffled off to one of the guests. Caramelo can't yet write her name, and since neither Elsa nor JJ were around to help, and Limon can't write, she just wrote a bunch of the letters she's learned on her slip of paper for the raffle. Her paper was pulled out, but since there was just gibberish written and no one would claimed it (since Caramelo was ashamed), Angie tore it up and pulled out another. That's when Caramelo lost it and said she won the bike, the first paper being hers. But Angie told her that no name was written on it, plus she didn't claim it, meaning she forfeited, and another person was picked and won the bike. Then Caramelo really lost it.

So because JJ and Elsa can't behave live civilized humans in the same room, Caramelo had to suffer for it and be humiliated in front of all those kids.

I think Dora's letter admitted to all her "sins". Being David's real mother, and staying silent about the murder she witnessed years ago, where she saw that Carlos was one of the killers, not JJ.

Good morning! It's snowing here. December 1 -- very punctual!

Aribeth will be along; she has had law exams on top of a job, valiant girl. Many thanks to her.

Yes, it is so good to see Santiago sticking it to Adolfo, LOL! However, it is making Adolfo suspicious, I think, along with Roberto's steadfast protestations -- and sincere horror -- at having killed Mario. Adolfo's going to believe him soon, I'm afraid.

Poor Caramelo :-(

Vivi, thank you. So it was a raffle for the bike. How sad. Maybe Limon should take some learning classes to be able to help Caramlo, because JJ and Elsa are only thinking of themselves at the moment. Poor little girl. That was horrible.

I didn't realise that in Dora's letter she had also written what happened the night the maid was killed. I didn't think of that. Thanks Vivi for reminding me.

Margaret

Jeri, thank you for the links.

Yes, the video of Gabe Soto was priceless! Thanks so much for sharing it with us Aribeth.

I'm in complete agreement that the picture was wonderful! Our recappers certainly have a knack for selecting the perfect shots, don't they??

I must have dozed off for a few minutes as I didn't see the raffled bike fiasco. Ack...

Good questions Margaret. Thanks for explaining why the letter mentioned Carlos' name Vivi. I didn't get that either. Of course, Roberto is still in the clear on the murder since Doris did not see his face. He certainly hasn't gotten away scott free - what a terrible beating he sustained...I suspect it won't be the last either.

Jeri, hope you don't get much snow!

Aribeth, really looking forward to reading your recap. Realizing the busy lives you, Jeri and Vivi have make our appreciation all the more heartfelt.

Thank you for the comments! :)
The recap is ready.

Aribeth, Your title was perfect. However, we certainly were not at all "ambushed" by your pictures or summary. They were of the highest caliber, just as we have come to expect from you! I so enjoy your humor as will and laughed at all your character nicknames: Smeagol and Dracula. Excellent!

The most gratifying scene was the (assuredly temporary) reconciliation of David and Gaby: "At last the brain cells of David start to work again and Gaby's sweetness and persistent love melts his heart." Ahhh. Your picture reflected the loving heart and soul of Gaby, my favorite character by far.

Can you imagine what would happen if Susana and Leo teamed up? An odd couple to be sure but all of the mysteries and intrigue would be solved almost instantaneously. Although most of the "evidence" has literally fallen into Susana's possession, her inquisitiveness and street smarts have served her well.

I love the fact the letter was missed as soon as it was "lost". No dragging their feet for these writers! :)

I'm not sorry I missed the sordid going ons at the party. Poor Caramelo! I can only imagine how despondent she must be. All the creature comforts in the world can never atone for the loss of parental love and affection.

Love that "Mario" is standing up to Adolfo - as you so aptly put it with his "new-found strength".

Cannot wait for more!

Diana

Amazing Aribeth, good luck on your law exams and thanks for writing such a fabulous recap for us and with your busy schedule. Wow. The screencaps are great as well and you've selected perfect ones for the recap especially the Fausto ambush, similar to the Mario ambush at the hotel earlier.

I appreciated the details of the Mario and Adolfo meeting where Mario got the upper hand on the now very confused Adolfo. LOL, Adolfo wants Mario to set up things so his nieces (Bertha really) will be taken care of for life. Adolfo should do that since he's pumping Bertha for info and has daily assignments for her now as a spy.

The Susana actress has such an expressive face. You can see her mind at work. She may end up helping or hindering the Genoves but hopefully, end up helping. And Gabi is always amiable to her.

J J and Elsa's relationship has deteriorated to a juvenile level. What is it with these two? If I were Mauricio, I'd be suspicious of Elsa's over reaction to J J's presence. She's not over J J yet.

Poor Caramelo, isn't prepared for her new world especially with Mauricio's blunt and direct little niece, Angie. And Aunt Elsa has abandoned her over resentment of J J.

Leo is my still my hero. He can be kind and sensitive but very forceful and direct. Can he arrest Fausto/Santiago as a fugitive suspect since he was accused of the murder by Adolfo but never tried?

And Vivi, I had forgotten that Dora might have added to the letter her account of the maid's death and, therefor, mentioning Carlos Avila. I was thinking, maybe she knew that Carlos was perhaps David's half sib or something convoluted since they both have definite anger management issues (and pretty eyes.)

Thank you, Diana!

The title isn't mine I asked our Jeri to create a discussion page and a title while I was asleep.

I'm very afraid that the letter got into wrong hands. Susana is an interesting character but she seems to be more like Bertha than Gaby/Juli/Ale.

Little Caramelo needs parents desperately. Or at least a strong-willed and sane mother figure. JJ isn't ready for the job since he hardly can take care of himself. Asunción does his best but he isn't enough. Elsa surely would be a great mom but her relationship with JJ is so complicated and screwed-up that it would deeply affect the raising of Caramelo. Mauricio is a lovely father figure but his relationship with Elsa isn't steady at all.
I for one hope Alejandra will bring some sanity and order into the Victoria-Limón household. She is a snob but at least her brain works well.

Thanks Aribeth for the recap. Leo is closing in on the tangled Mario/Adolfo/Fausto situation. That smile on Susana's face was definitely a sneaky one. I have a feeling she may try to get in contact with Carlos not knowing she already has and mistook him for JJ.

I think both JJ and Elsa need to stop fighting for Caramelo's sake. Neither were there for her when she really needed them while Bertha in training Angie humiliated her in front of everyone.

Aribeth-

I hope all went well on the law exams. Thank you for taking the time to do the recap, despite having so much on your plate.

I can't wait to find out what Faustiago says to Leo. I hope he just confesses and tells Leo all. I mean, if Leo intended to arrest him for being Santiago, he would have done so already.

Yolanda's lies are closing in on her too. I don't know how much longer she can hide Faustiago from Adolfo. She's already had to make up some pretty good lies about why the waitresses' father is confiding so much in her.

Another shout out to Faustiago for sticking it to Adolfo. :) Until he actually learns that the great actor Santiago is in the picture, I think he will continue to be baffled about how and why Mario has changed so much.

I really hope David's make-up with Gabi sticks this time. I like how she told him she's got her own problems too (on top of trying to help with his problems) and she needs to rely on friends like Leo to help her. And, so what if Leo or Carlos or anyone else wants/likes her?! She's got a say in the matter too, and her heart only belongs to David. When will he get that into his thick skull? He's got to accept the fact that he married a beautiful, sweet woman, who many men are going to fall for and perhaps pursue (even if she's married). He's got to trust that SHE won't give in to temptation and just deal with other guys falling all over her. But I don't trust that he's really gotten to that point yet.

I'm not so harsh on Angie. I certainly wouldn't call her a little Bertha. She was just being honest. It's not like she called Caramelo illiterate or stupid. She simply stated the facts and did what was fair. Caramelo did not write her name and she did not claim her prize when her paper was drawn. Another child's name was already drawn and it wouldn't have been fair to that kid. She doesn't know/understand what Caramelo's situation is. I think that if she did, she would have probably written Caramelo's name for her on the paper and not said anything about it. In fact, if you look at it at face value, it was Caramelo who was acting like a brat and not Angie. But of course we know what all was behind her acting out and can be sympathetic. But for any parent or kid that was at the party, it just looks like Caramelo was being a brat and a spolied sport.

I agree, Angie didn't want to hurt her and did nothing wrong. Caramelo was the victim of circumstances. I couldn't blame JJ and Elsa either. Medina wanted to talk with JJ privately, and if Elsa hadn't left out of spite then she could've been somewhere else, for example in the bathroom or the kitchen.

As always, thank you all for the recaps, I comment when I can! The photos are great as well.

I love the way this novela moves along. It is also different in that the bad guys keep being thrown off balance, instead of just getting away with evil easily until the end. It's more believable and more fun to watch!

I don't know about Angie, not sure she is a Bertha, but I also am not sure she's a very nice friend. She is a little uppity or something. For sure not so good that JJ and Elsa weren't there for her for their adult reasons, but that was circumstance. No one would have realized she needed to write her name. I don't get it with those two either, what the problem is.

So, David has thawed a little, wonder what will push him over the edge again. Leo remains fantastic, he's going to put it together that Fausto is Santiago/Mario.

Can't wait to see what happens tonight!

Ivy

Aribeth,

Thanks as always for the great summary and also for the Gabriel Soto link. One thing noone mentioned thus far is the fact that
David invited Gaby to dinner; instead of telling her where they would dine, he said it would be a
surprise. In my mind, I believe
I have figured out what this is, but I do not want to be a spoiler.
I will just say that there will be
a big surprise for both Gaby and
David tonight that will move the plot along further...and most likely the dinner will not take place. (And are you attending law school?)

Great recap, Aribeth

Thanks also for the GS link.
I really enjoyed it. I'm not clear on this ..when Gaby and David were talking, Berta's name was mentioned. Does he now realize
she gave Gaby the photos?

Thanks

Floridia- The only time they mentioned Bertha was when David he says that Bertha told him Gabi left to have lunch with Leo the other day. Gabi first opens up the conversation by saying she went to see Carlos to demand he tell her who gave him the photo, because she's not that stupid to have done something like that. I thought that was funny. She was basically saying, dude, if I was going to cheat on you, I'd be way more sneaky about it. :)
