La Verdad Oculta EP62 11/09/2010 -- When a man loves a... a bottle of tequila

* Roberto, the mutant rat threatens Adolfo, the angry dragon with sending the shoes and the photo to the police if anything bad happens to him. Dolphie assumes Rob wants money in exchange of those things, and slimebag’s face lights up: yesss, yesss, maaaster is a good hobbit, clever hobbit! Smeagol wantsss money, but of coursssse Smeagol isn’t stupid, he will never give his life insurances to the master, no, never. Adolfo wants proof, so Roberto describes him the photo. It convinces the old man, and now he tries to find out how Rob acquired them. Did Bertha give them to him? No. Then it must’ve been his little friend from the Genovés villa. Actually, Rob knows way too much about what’s happening in Mario’s house. No, it wasn’t her. Finally Adolfo surrenders. Fine then, how much money he wants? 200.000 dollars. DOLLARS?! Yes, dollars, because Roberto saves money to live abroad. Adolfo suspects that Rob plans to blackmail him again for more money but the boy assures him he has other… businesses.

After Rob leaves Adolfo calls the seaside house and orders Félix to return immediately. Yolanda shows up and he tells her everything about Roberto’s blackmail. Naturally he doesn’t intend to give him the money, on the contrary, he’ll kill that bastard! Yolanda begs him to calm down, she won’t get involved in a murder again! Nobody asked for neither her help, nor for her opinion, says Adolfo, and don't forget, if he falls, she will fall, too. Yolanda tries to convince him again: why doesn't he give David and Roberto what they want and after that they could start a new life abroad. Surprisingly Adolfo admits he understands her fear because he’s afraid, too. However, since Mexico has extradition agreements with most of the governments they have to get rid of the proofs of smuggling. Then choose another country, says Yolanda. Adolfo promises her to think it over, but now he needs her to do a favor. There's a girl in the Genovés household who's called Susana...

* Leo and Bertha meet in a restaurant finally. She’s sorry for the last time, she’s had many problems lately. That stupid David accused her of stealing a photo of Gabriela, which is nonsense, why would she need a photo of Gaby? Leo asks if her uncle defended her, but no, he was on David’s side. It’s strange, he isn’t even Mario’s son but a servant’s who abandoned him. Wow, that’s new for Leo. He is very interested in Mario’s health, too, and the girl confirms that his head hurts all the time. After gaining so many valuable informations Leo is ready to spill some beans to Bertha: the photo is very important because it is a proof of jewel smuggling.

* After another exhausting day Fausto enters the tunnel and while he removes his prosthetic accessories he thinks it’s one less day to carry this burden. Outside the headquarters he meets Juan José who invites him to his house for a drink. Which means they get drunk like two sailors in the dirtiest tavern of Plymouth.

* Gaby and David talk about their newest favourite topic: Leonardo. He’s a good man, says Gabriela, if David and Mario have problems why don't they tell him? But David isn’t allowed to tell someone else’s personal matters to a cop. Is this about your father, asks Gabriela. Yes, about him and other people. He ’d like to tell her everything but he can’t. Is it something ugly. Yes. Dangerous? Yes. Dangerous for David? No, not for him. Gabriela calms down a little bit and promises that she won't ask him about that again.

* Ramón, who followed Bertha to her home, calls Leo to tell her the news of the day. Man, you won't believe in whose apartment she lives now. Adolfo Ávila, says Leo calmly. How did you know?! *Viewerville: because he’s Leo*

* Let’s get back to the Drunk Gentlemen's Club where Fausto is officially in Team Alejandra. He doesn’t doubt that Elsa is a good girl, but come on! Alejandra is brilliant, intelligent and pretty, and who cares if she had boyfriends before JJ, it doesn't matter, don't be so old-fashioned! The old man, who raised someone else’s child, knows a thing or two about jealousy and prejudice and sadly warns JJ to be more careful. Great, now the male versions of Victoria Ruffo and Adela Noriega are crying on each others’s shoulder. After opening another bottle of tequila JJ confesses he likes Fausto much because he’s so intelligent and wise and he’s sure they will get along well. Fausto thinks the same and asks him if he ever met Mario Genovés? Yes, he did. Is he sure? Yes. No, JJ doesn’t know Mario, because… *drumroll* Mario is dead! He died after the wedding. Juan José grins, don’t fool with him, he saw Mario with his own eyes! No, he saw Fausto! JJ bursts out into laughing. Anyway, Fausto asks him to visit Mario next day. Why? To find out things that are important for JJ.

After Fausto leaves Asunción gets a big amount of JJ’s outbursting, drunk love. Yeah, he should’ve stayed in his room.

* Next day David tells Gaby’s idea to Fausto, who's suffering from hangover. Maybe they should tell the truth to Leonardo. Fausto doesn’t think it was a good idea, Leonardo is his friend, but don’t forget, he’s a policeman!

* In the Ávila condo Gabriela confronts Yolanda with the shoes-jewel smuggling-what the hell is going on issues. Yolanda tries to make up an acceptable story about the stones, but Gaby doesn’t buy a word she says. She knows she’s not telling the truth, she’s lying and she lied about Marta, too! She didn’t die of an illness, she was murdered! Yolanda is surprised. Gaby is worried about her father, too, she doesn’t know where he is now. Why, didn't you talk with him yesterday, asks Yolanda. Gaby learns Fausto called the woman and he did know about their meeting. How was that possible?

* David gives Roberto the money and when he gets too interested in why is Fausto impersonating Mario Blondie tells him he got the money to shut his mouth up, so please, STFU right now! They’ll give him another briefcase with the same amount of money later, as long as he keeps quiet.

* While a handsome security guy is teaching Julieta how to use a DVD player, Gaby calls David. Why didn't you tell her that her dad had called her? What? No, Fausto didn’t call anyone. Then how what was Yolanda talking about? David tries to explain the situation but Gabriela is confused and doesn’t understand why Fausto rejects them. Doorbell. Juan José the another hung over genius came to visit Don Mario and to ask Gaby about Alejandra. Sorry, she left early.

* JJ enters the study and asks Mario how he is today. He’s got a terrible headache, thanks to their drunkenness yesterday. JJ looks for the candid cameras and Ashton Kutcher, then he admits he doesn’t understand a word Don Mario says. As a response, Fausto removes his false teeth. JJ’s gasps, and his eyes almost pop out of his head, and the very amused Fausto says what he said last night is true, Mario did die in the accident. Then he shows JJ his prosthetic accessories, the moving cupboard, the tunnel and all the high-tech stuff with the same enthusiasm JJ showed him his house. Juan José crosses himself for safety's sake but obediently follows the strange old man. In the tunnel he remembers the moment when he and Ale first met and he finally he starts to enjoy the trip. In the make-up room Abelardo calls Fausto to return to the house because David needs to talk with him. And what about David, asks JJ. Well, the fact is that he knows the truth, but he doesn't know that JJ knows it, too. Only four people know about his secret: Abe, David, Alejandra and now he, JJ.

* In the hall Juan José is introduced to David again (Hi, Blonde, how are you?), then he leaves the house. Outside he runs into his Alejandra… sad puppy eyes, mumbling, blushing, confused smiles, what are you doing here, I had a conversation with Don Mario, oh, yeah? JJ admits he’s glad to see her, and by using the oldest “wait, there’s something on your chin” trick he kisses her.

Good evening. :-) Here are the You Tube links for Episode 62:

Part 2

Part 3

Part 4

Part 5

Thanks, dear. :)

From yesterday:
Vivi, I tried to watch the Univision video but now it's me who's blocked. Dammit. It'd be fun to see the Eva Luna cast.
It's unbelieveable, but yesterday I forgot to mention two very important, successful and freaking long Telemundo telenovelas: Marielena (1992, Lucía Méndez and EY) and Guadalupe (1993, Adela Noriega and EY). By that time Telemundo didn't have many actors and the cast was almost the same in the two shows, only the female protagonists changed. And, which is more interesting, I recognized those cast members in Univision first telenovela, Te amaré en silencio (2002, EY again). I'm curious if those guys are still around in Eva Luna.
Univision tries hard to make people believe EL is their first show but many people won't forget their (real) first failed attempt. :P

Today:

Sometimes I call David Blondie. And how did Juan José call him in this episode? Güerito (güero=blonde). That's my boy! :)

Aribeth- Looking forward to the recap. I'll be in meetings all morning and afternoon around the city, so I won't be able to comment until late in the day.

Great title and pics so far. This was a very funny episode. :)

Fausto has called David Blondie a few times too. :)

I didn't know YouTube blocked content anywhere once it was on their site. Bummer.

Until later amigos.

Good morning. :-) Yeah, we had a bit of discussion over at the initial Eva Luna synopsis blog after I brought up Te Amare en Silencio.

As far as we ever figured out, Univision was simply lying about EL being their first telenovela production.

Ahh, the pictures made smile and the title? Simply great.

Thanks for the links Jeri!

I'm a little ashamed to say I dozed off missing the fist half hour so am looking forward to reading your recap Aribeth.

Usually, at this point, I look at the number of episodes gone by and think "Ack - so many more to go - when will this start moving". Now I think "Oh no, we're already half way through and it just gets better and better!"

Happy Friday all.

Diana

This episode was a nice change of pace, allowing my blood pressure to return to normal. The two fish out of water were able to commiserate with each other their frustrations with their new world. Will Fausto/Santiagp reveal Dora's confession as an eye witness? Why is the DVD player receiving so much air time? Is a revealing DVD still in the machine?

Used the links. thanks Jeri, and I am looking forward to your recap, Aribeth.

GinCA

I can't help but think Santiago's going to cringe if he remembers blabbing while drunk. Juan José thought he was nuts, but he's going to remember at some point and connect.

The only other DVD references so far are in conjunction with the makeup studio, where all the CGI is -- or from the recorder in Mario's office.

Ok, summary is up! Thank you, Aribeth!

Thanks, Jeri!

Alternate title: The Fausto and JJ show. :)

Thanks Aribeth for a wonderful recap. I did a lot of LOLing in this episode. JJ and Fausto's drunken bromance was hysterical. The the next day both with hangovers, Fausto lets JJ in on his secret. That was great and the comic relief a great tension breaker with the intense episodes shows we've had back to back. Both Leo and Gabi are closing in more and more to the truth. Now Adolfo wants to know more about Susana. Uh oh.

Aribeth: I savored every picture and word, starting with your zodiac theme "mutant rat"/"angry dragon" through your LOTR ode "Smeagol wantsss money, but of coursssse Smeagol isn’t stupid..." through the drunken escapades "Which means they get drunk like two sailors in the dirtiest tavern of Plymouth".:) What great fun.

Favorite line: *Viewerville: because he’s Leo*. Excellent!

Felix's return does not bode well for Roberto and it's doubtful he will be around long enough to enjoy any of his dirty money.

There are so many secrets, half-truths and out and out lies, it's becoming difficult to keep track. I feel for David who is complettely "in the know" as he has to keep Gabi pretty much "in the dark". Hmmmm.

No gentle kisses from JJ. Mad grabs, passionate kisses. Works for me! :)

Have a wonderful weekend all.

Diana

Aribeth, a perfect title for an episode with so much comedy. "Asuncion gets a big amount of JJ's outbursting drunk love. Yeah, he should've stayed in him room" had me lol.

About the DVD player, I think the recording of Roberto talking David into the fake marriage ceremony is still there.

I'm actually hoping Roberto doesn't get bumped off soon, or otherwise he won't be around when they find out who killed the maid or Fausto. Since he and Carlos are best friends, I wonder if they'll meet up soon.

Leo is so cool. He knows full well Bertha won't keep the "secret" he told her about Adolfo and the jewels from Adolfo.

I meant to say Roberto killed Mario, not Fausto.

Great recap, thank you Aribeth, loved the photos too!! As others have said, it was nice to have a break from all the tension, this episode was really funny! Loved JJ's drunk love for Asuncion! He was a little too goofy the next day after he talked to Santiago, though, he was pretty obvious about knowing the secret.

I, too, think what's on the DVD is the fake marriage conversation, and Julieta will see it. What will she do with that? She knows David loves Gaby.

Interesting that Gaby is not believing Yolanda, she must be extremely frustrated, no one will tell her anything and she knows there is a lot going on.

ITA Roberto can't die yet, I think he is still too important to the story because of the murder of the maid. Loved your writing about Smeagol!

Leo is just too cool for words! He is so likable in this TN, so unlike Marino in Dinero.

Ivy

P.S. And the murder of Mario, too, of course.

Thanks Aribeth! This was a fun episode in many ways. I liked the whole "Fausto trying to put on his coat" routine. I'll bet there were more than a few takes of that scene.

Bertha always reminds me of a twelve-year old who's been playing with her mom's makeup. She's the first character I've ever seen (outside a cartoon) with absolutely straight eyebrows, no curve to them at all. Strange.

I agree that Roberto is probably around for the duration. He's the wild card who keeps the tension up and will remain a thorn in the side of both Adolfo and David.

Thanks again, Aribeth..

Also on the DVD, isn't there the conversation between Adolfo & Mario where Mario was trying to
record Mario admitting that he killed Marta?

I thought it was a bit strange that Fausto seemed to find this
whole scam hilarious as he explained it to JJ when he has
previously been so terrified to be a part of it. It seems also that
he needs an outside ally in JJ
with whom he feels comfortable.

Also, I think Santiago's guilt over what his fear did to his daughters' lives, as he told Juan José, may be emboldening him.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I enjoyed recapping this episode much, it was hilarious, and I agree with you that we needed a little bit of relief after so many heavy episodes.

Fausto's confession seemed to be out of character for me in the beginning. He was much mistrustful before, and after all, JJ is a stranger. But I think something changed when he told David everything and the boy didn't kill/beat him up him with his own hands, on the contrary, he became his supporter. Faustiago must feel much relieved now. He saw JJ's true colors when they first met in his study, he knows he hates Adolfo, he's rich, Gabriela likes him and he genuinely likes "Don Fausto" just because he's Gaby's dad.
But no matter how much I talk about his supposed feelings, this relevation was risky.

Floridia:
Fausto seemed to find this
whole scam hilarious

I guess Fausto enjoyed watching JJ's shock.

No, Roberto can't die! Yet. Although he's an evil guy who needs to be punished, I hope he'll be around (and gets kicked in the butt many times) until the end. He's so entertaining.

I also suspect that Juli may discover an important video. And I still can't believe there isn't a huge widescreen TV in the living room.

Aribeth- Thank you so much for letting me relive the funny/silly moments of this episode through your recap. JJ and Fausto should take their act on the road. :)

I also think that the relief of telling David about the plan has made it easier for Fausto to confide in JJ. Add to that that he sees all the similarities between himself and JJ, and their mutual hate of Adolfo due to false accusation, and add a liberal amoount of tequila. I'm not surprised he unburdened himself. David and Abelardo are his employers, but JJ is his friend.

I thought it interesting that Fausto admitted to being too strict and old fashioned with his daughters, limiting their ability to form friendships and have boyfriends. That's a big step for the old guy.

Ivy- I think you might be right about the dvd player contents. We all know that the false wedding has to come back to bite David in the butt sometime. But it could also reveal the Mario/Adolfo conversation and murder accusation too. I can't wait to find out.

I'm not sure how much longer Gabi can go on accepting that everyone is lying to her. Leo has even asked Juli not to tell her everything they spoke about at lunch! I know I would be extremely frustrated. And they really slipped up on that whole how did Fausto find out she was meeting with Yolanda thing. They couldn't even come up with a good bs answer. Lol!

Thank you Aribeth for the wonderful recap and pictures. The last one with JJ kissing Ale is my favorite.

First of all: "¡Pa'su mecha!" hahaha. This is the first time JJ has ever sounded like someone from Veracruz. In fact he rarely uses slang while he speaks. I could believe he lost the accent from Veracruz from all the time spent in DF but he didn't pick up the typical chilango tone and slang in jail either.

I also thought EY had a little trouble acting drunk while he was standing but he had some hilarious moments with Fausto. I loved the chemistry between the actors. I also liked when JJ went to see "Mario" and Faustiago told him to touch his nose hehe.

Leo is so great. I love his intelligence and presence. I wish he was real and worked at the federal police.

Jarocha

Hi,
I have been recording this from the beginning but I must have missed something because I don't remember how Fausto and Juan Jose met. Could someone please fill me in. Thank you.

Anon:
They met in episode 48 first, when JJ visited "Don Mario" to tell him his story.

A week later (episode 53) JJ took Gabriela to Fausto's flat and Gaby introduced them to each other.

Thank you Aribeth. I remember the episode but for some reason I couldn't remember their original meeting. (As Fausto)
