La Verdad Oculta EP72 12/28/2010 – Technologically illiterate guys play James Bond and Q
* In Yolanda’s flat Yolanda and Adolfo try to get out of Carlos why the police is so interested in him. He. Doesn’t. Know! Did he do or say anything suspicious? Carlos’s fed up with the conversation and he’s about to leave when Adolfo notices his trefoil ring. He tries to take it away from Carlos but the boy prefers keeping both the ring and his finger. After he leaves Adolfo gives another stupid task to Yolanda: ask Carlos to give her the ring but he refuses to give her an explanation.
* David asks for Dora and when she enters the room acting like a kind and obedient servant, he says only one word: MOM. Dora and Viewerville burst into tears. She begs for his forgiveness, she didn’t know what to do but she loves him completely, that’s why she returned. This time David isn’t mad at the world, on the contrary, he reaches his hand to his mother. Dora gratefully thanks to him and swears nothing will separate them again.
* In Juan José’s villa Asunción worriedly watches as his angry and determined friend leave the house with a camera, a backpack and the intention of cathing the hijo de puta (son of a b****) who blackmails him. At the neighbouring house Roberto shows up looking for Susana but Abelardo and the security guys kick him out of Edoras. Rob has no choice but leave swearing and rubbing his aching arse. Back to JJ’s home: Caramelo, Chicles and Asunción spend the day with painting and talking about Limón’s extraordinary beach stories.
* In the hospital David learns from Gabriela that the two goons died and although Leo got shot, he’ll get better.
* Juan José arrives at Garnica’s most favourite place on Earth, he hides the camera in a nearby tree and then digs the backpack.
* Garnica’s goon (aka one of Juan del Diablo’s best friends from CS) called Valentín delivers JJ’s rucksack to Mr. Slimebag… but they discover JJ gave them a pile of simple paper instead of millions of delicious pesos. Que the hell?! Garnica rages with anger.
* At home Juan José and Asunción try to figure out how to connect Ale’s camera with the TV. They finally manage to watch the tape and they see two men and a helicopter (of course offscreen). JJ uses his rusty brain cells for the fifth time in this show and figures that every plane have registration number, therefore they may find out who sat in the helicopter. But no, he doesn’t want to call the police. He must find that damned letter.
* Asunción and Caramelo watch the TV and talk about the beach trip. Caramelo’d like to invite Chicles, too.
* After being shot, half dead, shocked by a defibrillator and the revelation about his mother, poor David learns another shocking news from the doctor: there may be problems with his spine and he can’t tell David when he’ll be able to walk again. But don’t panic, first he’d like to do some medical tests.
* A literally and figuratively fuming Carlos storms into Yolanda’s flat and says he’s just learned that he has no access to their bank accounts anymore! And he can’t find a job because the Genovéses are too influential in the sector and everyone knows about his problems with his dad. Maybe he should look for his friends in the US. Yolanda objects, no, don’t leave the country! She tries to calm down her impulsive muñeco who is desperate and has no idea what to do. She thinks he should reconcile with his father, please let her talk with him.
* Now that his “useless” son doesn’t manage Sagitario anymore Adolfo has to work for real. He’s about to be suffocated by papers and files when Garnica shows up and restarts his “you owe me much” speech. If he accepts Garnica as his business partner then he’ll give him a very important document. (See, Adolfo? This is how Mario felt 20 years ago.) He tells Adolfo about his cool seaside project which piques Dolphie’s interest – though he’s less than enthusiastic about JJ’s participation. But come on, Garnica thinks they could get rid of that man.
* In the hospital Gaby and Julieta talk about Paulita. Julieta doesn’t mind babysitting her since she’s such an adorable child! She’s like Leonardo. Gaby has a feeling her little sister is falling in love and Juli agrees. Inside the infirmary David tells Dora about his fears and worries. He’s afraid that he won’t be able to do his job but Dora has a good idea: David has an intelligent and wonderful wife who loves him much. But the video… No, they must hope she’ll forgive him. Outside Gabriela continues wondering about Marta Sardíval. Since she was murdered the press must’ve written about her death.
* In the Ávila condo Yolanda tells lazy, spoiled Bertha who the boss is and gives her some advice about dignity and intellect. Btw, she should leave Adolfo’s home before she gets into trouble. Bertha explodes: Yolanda did the same, she was living with Adolfo’s money, how dare she lecture her now?! When Adolfo shows up Bertha complains about “this woman”, but que sorpresa, Adolfo acts like a gentleman for the first time and defends Yolanda. (Which means he won’t get sex soon.) Yolanda tells him Carlos regrets his behaviour and… he can’t find a new job. Okay. Tell Carlos to give him the ring and then he may return to Sagitario.
* Alejandra and Juan José watch TV in bed. JJ’s worried about the letter and Ale thinks maybe they should cancel the seaside trip. No, no, no, no. He wants to be with her, far away from their problems.
* In the tunnel house Fausto is anxious like hell, he has a feeling that something bad will happen. And… and he misses his daughters! What about Abelardo, does he have children? No, and his ex-wife has died. Did he love her? Yes, he did. Fausto also loved Marta, and he swears if they can’t send Adolfo to prison he’ll kill that bastard!
* Gabriela visits a library and looks for informations about Marta. She finds an article about an “actor who fled with his two daughters after strangling his wife”. Boom.

Last episode David was left impactado at the end, but last night was Gabi's turn to be left open mouth and heartsick impactada. She found out about Faustiago in the worse possible way. They should have told her long ago since they knew she wan't letting this go. And once she saw that even Leo was hiding info from her, she took matters into her own hands.
David took the news of Dora really well. He also took the uncertain news about his ability to walk well. But you could see how much he needed Dora's care and support, as well as her assurance and advice about Gabi. He must know that given how attentive she's been to him at the hospital that she's not thinking of divorcing him. But maybe he thinks she's just being kind. I also like that Dora suggested Gabi could take on some of the business management while he's healing.
Jeri, thank you for the links.
Vivi: "open mouth and heartsick impactada" - truly. My heart went out to Gabi - what a gruesome way to make such a painful discovery. Her entire world is crumbling...Ack.
I have to say, when David looked at Dora and said mother, I completely lost it. I was crying right along with him. David made it crystal clear he was accepting his mother unconditionally and with complete love. Gabriel Soto has been a revelation.
As 2010 comes to a close, I would like to say how much Caray, Caray has meant to me. I thank all of the recappers that keep this site going and here, our wonderful Jeri, Aribeth and Vivi for their wisdom, insight, time and great care with this amazing story. The commenters bring zest and spark and reading the recaps and comments has truly been the highlight of my day.
If I don't get to read the recap before I leave work today, I will "see" you all next week.
I wish all of you a happy and healthy 2011.

We weren't allowed to see the video, but it seems J J successfully managed to capture a photo of a man and the helicopter picking up the ransom. It was, most likely, Garnica's henchman he saw but, hopefully, he can trace the helicopter's id #. Hope J J listens to Ale and Asuncion's advice and gets a professional involved, either Leo or if not, at least a private detective. That might be a better use of his milliones. But at least he wised up and didn't leave another diez milliones without receiving the letter in return. Good for J J.
I had some problems understanding what spoiled lazy Bertha was yelling at Yolanda. Adolfo defended Yolanda so Bertha needs to be cautious or sugar daddy will boot her out the door.
Add me to the Gabe Soto fan club. He's doing a great job in portraying an evolving David. He comes across as so sincere and finally now, level headed, as David.
Looking forward to your recap, Aribeth. Adding to what Barbara so beautifully stated, I appreciate all your, Jeri and Vivi's time, effort and talent to create so much fun for us.

Loved JJ packing the bag with paper instead of giving Garnica money when he won't give him the letter. It looks as though Garnica is joining up with Adolfo against JJ.
The claws certainly came out when Yolanda confronted Bertha lazily lounging around with her feet on the sofa.
I too want to thank our marvelous recappers Jeri, Aribeth, and Vivi. I look forward to your recaps everyday and you all have a knack of pulling me in with your descriptions that it's like I'm watching the episode all over again. Great job.
The way that Adolfo reacted to seeing the ring on Carlos' finger leads me to believe that he thought the ring they found on Roberto was Carlos' ring, just in a new setting. So now that he knows there are two rings, he is closer to finding out where the 2nd one came from, and that it is the clue that was left behind from Marta's murder. He will once again know that David is bluffing (first the photo that is now in the wind along with the shoes and Susana), and won't break the contract. Arrgg!

So Asuncion cleans the house. Does he do the cooking as well. I was thinking why doesn't JJ hire staff to do the cleaning and cooking in the house.
Bertha was right at home just lying about and reading her magazine acting like the queen of the house.
Margaret
Does Adolfo know about the second ring? As I understood it, we still weren't clear whether Felix gave it to Dracula or not. Felix ripped it off Roberto's hand, but I was under the impression he was keeping it for himself.
Bertha really thinks she's moving up in the world doesn't she? She's gone from sitting on Mario's couch reading magazines to sitting on Adolfo's couch reading magazines. I guess we all need goals in life...
Poor Gabi. The only person who hasn't lied to her is Juli. I think the Stupendous Six are going to have to come clean with her now.
Many thanks to our wonderful recappers and all my fellow commentors. It's fun to snark at a bad show but even better to discuss a terrific one. LVO and the Insomniacs Club rock!
As others have said, that was so very painful to see our kind Gaby find out about her father in such a terrible way, from a newspaper. She must even have doubts about him, at least for the time....Selfishly, I was hoping that she and David would get back together immediately, but that doesn't seem to be in the cards yet.
I hope that whatever has happened in Yolanda's past, it is forgivable, I really like her. I felt that she was being kind to Bertha, she was sarcastic, but motherly in a way, warning her like she did for Gabi and Juli.
Some confusion for me, surely Carlos knows that Adolfo was protecting him by accusing JJ, why doesn't he just tell Carlos that the ring will incriminate them both? My swiss cheese brain has forgotten some details!
More later....(I hope!)
It was the same episode that Ale and JJ had their hot encounter at the hotel, David and Gabi had their romantic date, the pictures were stolen and burned, Ale learns Mario is dead and Fausto has taken his place, and Roberto gets the stuffing beat out of him. So a lot went on and it is easy to forget the ring thing. :) I think Adolfo just refused to believe at the time that Roberto somehow came in contact with his long missing cufflink at the Guillen apt. He just filed it away until now when it struck him that if Carlos is wearing the ring, then Roberto really must have found the other cufflink. Now he has to figure out the hows and whys.
Sandy- The ring/cufflink has nothing to do with the murder of the maid Isabela (in which Carlos is implicated). It's a clue in the murder of Marta, which Carlos does not really know about (has only overheard the name). So he has no idea why his father wants the ring and what it has to do with anything.
Margaret: no problem. :)
Our schedule is:
Monday/Wednesday - Jeri
Tuesday/Thursday - me
Friday - Vivi
But when we were pre-empted every second day the schedule was a mess.
You should've seen me a week ago. I bought a media player and I was doing exactly the same as JJ: trying to figure out where how to use the red, white and yellow plugs of that damned composite cable.
Without Vivi we would've gone mad, it's enough to deal with two recaps per week.
And without the great comments we wouldn't write anything.
By the way, rumor says Destilando amor will replace LVO in March. I was hoping for Para volver a amar but c'est la vie.
David's reaction to Dora is probably the calmest I've seen in a TN but considering as Aribeth said he's been shot, dead, revived, etc he can probably put things in perspective in ways that most protagonists cannot.
I feel horribly for Gabi. The team is going to have to come clean with her but this may be really difficult. Who will she trust? Will she tell someone evil?
I somehow have been having difficulty staying awake for Verdad and so I appreciate your recaps, tube links and comments.
I was especially puzzled about Yolanda's conversation with Bertha.
I knew Fausto was accused of Marta's murder but was glad to read about Gabi's trip and what she found out at the news library.
What a shock for her.

Santiago/Fausto seems to be the one 'assigned' to reveal all the truths and secrets. From a person who was always on the run, and didn't trust anyone, he sure has come a long way. Although he may well wish that he had been more honest with his daughters now that Gabi is slowly discovering his past.
Poor Carlos finally made the break from his father but he can't find a job to be independant. But why is Yolanda wanting him to reconcile with Adolfo. She should be telling him to leave instead of stay.
Margaret
One thing that helped David accept Dora so quickly I think is that when the subject of his mother was broached, he said that his she had abandoned him. It was music to his ears that she really hadn't, she had been there all along.
Margaret, on Yolanda and Carlos, "She should be telling him to leave instead of stay." I agree. I wish Carlos had been able to find a job, his idea of friends in the US was better than returning to the restaurant. Nothing good can posssibly happen there.
I've fallen behind witht this telenovela again. I'm a little dissapointed that Yolanda asked Carlos to stay. I agree that his idea to go to the US was better but I guess she didn't want to stop seeing him.
I liked the scenes between Dora and David. I imagine that she must have spent all her time at the Genovés house helping him and nurturing him in any way she could. I think everything that has been going on made David much more open to her, since he needs to feel well loved right now and he fears Gabi won't stay with him after he leaves the hospital.
Aribeth: I don't think Para Volver A Amar fits Univision's style. I've noticed that certain novelas are not picked and those usually are the ones that stray the most from the typical formula. I don't think La Verdad Oculta would have been shown if EY wasn't in it. I figure the choice in Destilando has to do with him too.
Jarocha
A literally and figuratively fuming Carlos... that's right, he has a bad habit but he does have stress (Daddy) in his life. Margaret, I think Muneco is Yolanda's reason for being besides expensive clothes, lots of jewelry and the green beverage she drinks. She loves him like a mother and needs him close.
Oh, and I loved how Bertha stomped up the stairs in her high heels like a petulant teenager. Does Adolfo want to raise a teenager again? We all know how well that turned out last time.
Will we see an enraged Gabi tonight if she finds she's been out of the loop? They can't let her believe her dad is a murderer. Can't wait to find out.

"My problem with Colunga isn't the characters he plays, or his acting skills but the telenovelas he participates in"
I agree that he has been in less novelas atractive novelas than real good ones. Although I do have a bigger problem with his characteres than with the novela itself. Especially in Esmeralda (which I used to watch solely for the Adrián/Graciela romance). I hated how he rejected his pregnant wife because she had been supposedly raped and he feared the child would be from the rapist. I just couldn't root for Esmeralda and Jose Armando anymore and hated how the story forced them together.
I sort of love the stupid mess of María la del Barrio. It's so campy and ridiculous and fun that I can't help but watch it every time it's on. Those weren't the best years of Colunga acting wise though. He wasn't as campy as most of the rest and he wasn't good enough to be the straight character in the midst of the crazies (like Ricardo Blumé and Irán Eory were).
Jarocha
Some of the same cast and from what I've seen, a similar flavor. They both seem realistic.
it was popular years ago.

Jeri, that title is lol perfection. I too relate to JJ's and Asuncion's techno skills. If it wasn't for a patient 12-year-old's training, I'd be video-hookup clueless.
