Triunfo del Amor #7 1/11/11 Fernanda Needs to Die

Models awalkin the ramp. They're HELLA skinny and flat-figured. Maria walks and gets this nice background music. Of course she does, Cielo; not only is she the protagonist, she's the only one with curves. Duh. We had this convo in the last comment section.

Anyways, she looks lovely in her pony tail and long gown. She does a twirl and has such a cute smile as she sees Max. You can tell she wants him to notice how pretty she looks, but he goes into wth-is-maria-desamparada-doing-here mode and squints his eyes uncomfortably while Victoria is takin ages to sign his freakin document. My boss does that too. Just sign it already.

When Vicki says, "Anything else, Maximiliano?" Maria stops right on the ramp and lets the tears fall. She can't believe he lied to her. She runs backstage.

Victoria and Pepino are like uhh why on earth is she crying? Antonienta continues to introduce the next models and outfits. Max looks like he knows he messed up. Guilt kicks in. Or maybe he's just upset at his luck--mamma did bust him out. Idk. I'd prefer the former.

Some woman is at some event giving some speech about something her organization couldn't have done without the help of Bernarda Iturbe and her generosity. Bernarda pretends to have modesty and shame, and I have to pause just so I can roll my eyes long enough. Give me a break, Bernie. Everyone's clapping for her. Make it stop; it's just annoying now. She's touched by the acknowledgment and says she doesn't deserve their applause. You're damn right you don't. She goes on bragging about how her son is a priest, and he inspired her to help the sick.

Juan Pablo's emptying a truck of food and talking to Domingo. Somehow, I missed the scope of the discussion. Something about an office being built by volunteers?

Pepino tells Maria how lovely and majestic she was. Antonieta asks why she froze on stage. Pepino leaves, and Antoniete takes Mari to the side and tells her she knows what happened. She tells Maria to confide in her. Max is a good boy, but he's not boy friend material. Remember the advice. I get that advice all the time, Maria. I usually follow it, but if Max is the guy, I say screw that! Forgivness is the answer.

Milagro is singing about kisses. She's onto Juanjo's crush on Linda. He denies it. She's just very pretty. Blah blah. He leaves.

Fernanda is in the office. Pepino hilariously skips in and hugs her. He has a dress for her party, but Fernanda says she wants something very sexy. She's old enough to pick her own outfit. Victoria is not in agreement, and she's MAD. Fernanda says the partay will be canceled if she can't pick her dress. Brat.

Pepino runs out, and Maria cluelessly walks into the office to talk to Victoria. Fernanda bashes her for interrupting a mother-daughter convo.

Victoria asks Fernanda to behave. Instead, Fernie mocks María Desamparada's name and says Vicki is only supporting her because she's an orphan like Vicki. Slap. Her. For. God's. Sake.

Victoria asks Maria why she froze on stage. Antonieta answers for her. She was nervous. First time modeling.

After Antonieta and Maria leave, Fer asks if Vicki has time for her now since the orphan's out of the picture. She gets this beyotch quality from Mama, but even Mama is annoyed and embarrassed. The phone rings, and Fer gets PO'd that there are things more important that her. Grow up.

Linda and Milagro talk. Blah. Blah.

Maria is leaving the office when Fer comes outta nowhere and starts insulting her. Mari says she didn't do anything to deserve this treatment from her, and Fer should be grateful for having a mother. She guilt trips her that she'll never understand what it's like to be an orphan.

Max is flirting with girls in the lobby, but he rushes to Maria when she comes down. She doesn't want to hear anything from him. In fact, she never wants to see him again. She walks off. See you soon, Max shouts after her.

Fer apologizes to Victoria for her behavior. Huggy. That's all it took to get it through Fer's head that she's a beyotch? That's it? Who knew.

Later, Vicki asks Antonieta why she didn't get married (random). She had many people who liked her. Antonieta says the man she loves doesn't love her.

Maria tells the roomies about Max betraying her. Linda rants about men always betraying girls. That's why women need to outsmart them.

Maria then talks about work and Victoria. She respects her more after learning that she's an orphan.

Doorbell rings at Maria's house. It's Max with a bouquet otra vez. She rolls her eyes at him, and he asks her to please forgive him. She attempts to slam the door, but he blocks it. He wants her to listen. She's heard enough, "Maximiliano." Maria slams the door. They both lean on opposite sides of it. Max leaves the flowers.

Vicki meets Osvaldo at a party. Pedro comments on how beautiful Victoria is. Guilleremo arrives. Jealous man. Same old. Kisses.

New day. Maria is leaving home. She sees the flowers outside and tries to ignore them, but she picks them up and smiles, walking away with them.

Max visits Osvaldo in his office. Osi is surprised. Max just wanted to know why Os was missing at breakfast. He was just busy.

Anyways, Max needs advice. He has all these regrets because of what happened with this girl. She's poor, pretty, and nice. He thinks she's innocent, but he's not sure. Osvaldo tells him to give her a chance. Get to know her.

Maria is walking the ramp. Vicki advises her on how to walk. She tells her she needs to fight for what she wants. Victoria says discipline is really important. Why don't you pass those words onto Fernanda? She needs them.

Max comes to works. He needs to talk to Pepino. Pepino asks what's up. Maxs wants the keys to Pep's apartment. Pep teases and asks who's joining him. Max takes the keys and says he can't tell. Oh, Max...

Fernanda asks Fabian where Max is. He doesn't know, but he can find out for her. No, it doesn't matter--she just wanted to bother him anyways. Fer asks Fabian why he's smiling like a fool. Jerk. I knew you couldn't change in 2 minutes. She mentions her birthday and asks how old he is. Fab is 25. She says she thought he was much older. He acts so boring. I'm asking from the bottom of my heart, just kill her already. Please.

Max sees Maria get into a bus and rushes into his car and follows her. He honks at her, moves his car when she changes her seat, and the whole bus is Oooing and aahiing her. Don't punish him, they say. She smiles and so does Max.

When the bus stops, Maria walks out, and Max parks his car [at the bus stop apparently] and chases after her.

Please listen, Max pleads. He didn't want to lie. She asks what he intended. He knows he was wrong with her. She's different from the rest. He touches her face and tries to kiss her. She evades it. He gets on his knees and tells the passerbyers to ask Maria to forgive him. They help him only cause he looks freakin adorable.

She tells him to get up. He's forgiven. The attention-grabber thanks the crowd for helping him, and he asks to take Maria somewhere where they can be alone. She says she's not sure. He winks at her and puts out his hand. [I'm melting.] Maria reluctantly puts her hand out too, and he snatches it.

Anonieta comes into Oscar's office and tells him his stuff was perfect. He wants to thank Victoria personally, but Antonieta tells him that she left with Osvaldo. He says Osvaldo's lucky to have Vicki. Antonieta tells him that he's chasing a dream that can't come true. He knows that, but he's decided to be single for life. Poor Antonienta.

Naty tells Milagro that the boy she likes is in love with another. Story of life, dear. That always happens to her. Sad.

Milagro is going to do something to help her. Love is inescapable. She has letters from people who are looking for partners. She a matchmaker? She has a guy who's lookin for a decent girl. Should they write back to him?

Max invites Maria inside the apartment. Don't be scared, he says. He asks if she likes it. She does. Did he decorate it? No, no. It's his friend's.

Why are we here, Maria asks.

Max: To talk and get to know one another. Ya know...we're alone right now.

Maria smiles nervously, and Max asks what perfume she has on. Idk what she said because I'm too distracted by Max leaning into her hair and smelling her. Maria gets even more nervous and thinks they should leave.

Max: Why? Is someone waiting for you?

Maria: No

Max: No one's waitig for me either, so let's stay here.

Maria: And what do we do?

Max: Spend time together.

Maria: What do we have between us?

Max: Something marvelous.
He wants them to get it on. She thinks he's going too fast. He tries to kiss her, but she says no. She believes in love and wants to form a family. He thinks she's thinking too far. They're still young. Marriage requires a lot of thought. Maria thinks it's better they leave, and she gets up.

Maximiliano stops her. Please don't go, he says. After much work, Max finally kisses her, and little Maria ain't standing there passively either. She's kissing him back. Who could blame her?

End.

Max in kayak = HOT

Como siempre, feel free to correct/add anything. Especially in the Osvaldo/Max talk. My niece was face-timing me so I missed some stuff. Gracias. :)

Comments:
Thanks, Cielo. I usually skim this show and rely on the recaps for the whole story.

I did see Bernarda accept her award and wanted to either throw up or throw a knife at my TV. Also saw Maria convince Fernanda to be grateful to have a mother. Couldn't believe it was that easy.

And, I saw the bus/car flirtation between Max and Maria. It was fun, but tipped the scale over from cute to gag-me-it's-so-sweet.
As long as no one is stricken with blindness or paralysis, I guess I'll keep checking back, but I'm not entirely into this one yet.
La Paloma

Cielo great job as always on the recap.

It seems the only thing Victoria has passed onto Fernanda is her nasty hot tempered b!tchiness.

La Paloma i wanted to borrow that knife for Fernanda for a moment.

This family is a mess you got one kid going around lying to women because he doesn't want them to know his connections with his wealthy family. Then the other is the most annoying nastiest bratty little Miss Princess who needs more than one good slap a day to straighten out that spoiled rotten attitude of hers.

The mother is mess obsessing over her lost daughter she still hasn't found time to tell her husband about.Total workaholic who plays dirty if she has to with her competitors. Insecure in her marriage because she feels threaten from every woman her husband who is a entertainer comes in contact with.

Good old Os is just totally oblivious of how messed up his family really is starting with his wife.

Bien hecho, Cielo.

Maria's little lecture to Fernanda won't have a lasting effect, estoy segura. Fernanda will be back to her usual bitchy self long before her next date with Tattoo Boy.

Fabian deserves better than this little tramp.

Wonderfully funny recap! Some faves:

"Bernarda pretends to have modesty and shame"

"I'm asking from the bottom of my heart, just kill her already. Please."

Os is starting to grow on me. His smile seems very sincere and caring.

Linda, on the other hand, can go hang. I was mortified when she said she was a Pisces. Gawd, we aren't all like that.

I predict a makeover for Nati. Who's with me?

Fabian is really so nice. I don't think Fer can have a change of heart strong enough to deserve him.

OOOPS!
Forgot to add that I love how each recapper now seems to add "Max in Kayak" (or some variation) to indicate "el fin"

Cielo: Gracias! especially for the 'kill her already' line! Perfecto!

St. Bernard(a): I want to cut that UGLY hair right off! It's as ugly as all of her sins!!! In fact...it should be SHAVED off!

Oz: in La-la land and totally oblivious to the chaos around him.

Victoria: still too schizophrenic for me, but I am trying very hard to like her...very hard.

Max: Maria had better keep her wits about this one...she's talking about family...to this Lothario?! P.L.E.A.S.E.

Susanita

Cielo- Thank you for this fun recap. I can see you are enjoying having your WL back.

OK, so Max thinks MD could be THE ONE, that she's a decent girl, different from all the others, his dad gives him advice to take his time to get to know this girl, and what does he do? Tries to get her in the sack without even a first date! Jeez! Now we'll see how long MD keeps him at bay. In Sorti, MJ resisted for a month, and that was with living under the same roof, pretending to be his wife, AND being wined (a lot of it) and dined by him. The woman had will power. MD's will power already seems to be cracking. :)

I thought is was funny when "model" MD was standing in 5 inch platforms next to Fer, who was in flats, and they were the same height. LOL! I don't think they ever showed her standing next to the other models either. She remained sitting when they were all in the dressing room until the other models left. Maite better get used to wearing very high heels and platforms in this tn.

La Paloma, rotfl! Throwing a knife at the TV is definetely on my list of things to do when novela characters annoy me.

Blusamurai, I agree. Keep those slaps coming. A slap a day won't keep the brat away.

Urban Anthropologist, yep. Yep. Fer will definetely disappoint her mother again.

Sara, I totally see a make-over for Naty. Also like Os's smile.

Susanita, I am trying to like Victoria too. ***Deep breath.*** Trying. ***Deep breath.***

Vivi: " In Sorti, MJ resisted for a month, and that was with living under the same roof, pretending to be his wife, AND being wined (a lot of it) and dined by him. The woman had will power." LOL, yes she did! Maria Jose is innocent enough, maybe too innocent. She hasn't experienced enough, and all of a sudden Mr. Hot pops in front of her, and she doesn't know what to do. We'll see how long it lasts.

I will be jumping in and out of Caray a little less for the next few days. Off to Nueva York tomorrow but will be back (unless my flight gets delayed) on Monday and recapping on Tuesday (my 20th birthday).

Cielo, this was sparkling.

I am not a WL fan to begin with and I already detest Max, but I find your adoration of him endearing. When I was recapping Gancho I had a similar affection for Coni (Laisha Wilkins)and I'm sure that I drove my fellow viewers nuts with my undisguised admiration and efforts to defend often the indefensible (she was a bit naughty at times). So even though I don't share your enthusiasm for WL, I completely understand and appreciate the way that it shines through, and I adore your recapping style.

I missed last 15 min. because my TV seized up for a bit. Just as well... I can't believe she actually trusted this lying pretty-boy enough to go with him. Yikes. When his dad offered advice, he didn't even tell him the reason for her rejection. He's definitely a project.

Though my daughter was a challenge at that age, Fernanda makes me appreciate how good we had it.

"I'm asking from the bottom of my heart, just kill her already. Please."

Works for me.

Thanks again for a delightful engaging recap.

Carlos

Thanks, Cielo, for the delightful recap. I loved your remarks, such as "Slap. Her. For. God's. Sake." A couple of times I didn't realize at first that it was you and not the character who was speaking. That just added to the fun.

Urban Anthropologist, I agree: Fabian definitely deserves better than Fer. Indeed, the only one who deserves Fer is a loser like Tattoo Boy. I have the feeling she is going to reform before the TN is over, but I don't think I can stand to be around for that. Even with NovelaMaven's Full-Body Schmaltz Shield, some thing are just too hard to take.

Sara, yes, I too was thinking that Nathy will undergo a makeover. She's clearly an attractive young woman that they've tried hard to make unattractive. As someone who wore glasses for most of her teenage years, I hate it when glasses are used to signal that someone is out of it.

Like La Paloma, I'm not (yet?) really into this TN. But I love the recaps!!

Cielo, thanks for a fun-filled recap. I always enjoy your work! Diviertate en la Manzana Grande!

Vivi-I agree with you. I thought Max came on a little too hot and heavy with this obviously inexperienced girl. Geez, they haven't even had a real conversation yet! Call me old-fashioned, but...

Blusamarai- I agree with all your comments. One question: You and many others complain about "Mejia tn's". This is my first. So far, I can't tell that this is any worse than some others I've seen. Can you elaborate?

Sondie

Cielo, you made my day! Let me tell you, after slogging thru more a foot of snow so I could get to Stalag 13, nothing will give me as much pleasure as reading your amusing & snarkalicious version of TdA. Muchisimas gracias!

I too loved your line about killing Fernanda. She really is quite the beyotch & whoa! what a bass mouth on that woman! She better be careful is there's a fisherman trolling in the hallways.

Sara, I'm with you on Naty's eventual clean-up. The oversized, 1980s glasses & frizzy hair are just a weak attempt to make her look plain & ugly. And gee, do we think she'll end up with JuanJo? (snore)

ITA, Vivi, re: Max's heavy handed come-on with our little virgencita. Makes no sense but then again, keeps everything consistent in this whacky little world.

WTF is with the ginormous earrings on Vicky? I wanted to shout "hey, those are bracelets!!" but if she heard me, she'd probably slap me upside the head.

argh.
Maggarita
:-D

Nathy will definitely get a good man in the end, but I don't think it will be Juanjo.

As to the big earrings, only virgins wear delicate earrings in novelas (just as only virgins and abuelitas don't show cleavage). The friend who taped Madres Egoistas for me when I was in Spain commented on the makeup and jewelry (she worked in a cosmetics chain store). Even without understanding any dialogue she was starting to get the cliches.

I think those particular earrings further emphasize Victoria Ruffo's moon face and are meant to make her look younger.

This is great, Cielo! Very funny!

I agree with everyone about Fer -- in spite of one moment of empathy, she is 'insoportable'. ¡Que se vaya ya! (Maybe by the end of the story she and Linda will be scratching for a living as mud wrestlers in Michoacan. Or not.)

But I don't mind Victoria's UberGrump persona: it's gonna be fun watching her soften and melt under María's influence. And it will be interesting to see María toughen up as she learns that not everyone in the world is like Sor Clementina.

I'm also starting to like Osvaldo, both the actor and the character. And I'm liking the pace of the story (even if all the gloomy flashbacks seem to be saved for Mondays!)

Thanks a bunch, Cielo! Safe trip to NY!

If I wore the earrings that Victoria had on, I would be slapped silly in the face each time I turned around! Somehow...I fail to see the attractiveness of those earrings!

Totally OT, but as I sit through some of the commercials and public service announcements, there is one that just drives me crackers...that Dr. Aliza...her VOICE...I can't stand it! That little girl voice coming out of a medical professional...gads...if I hear the word "enterete!" the way she says it (did I spell that correctly?) one more time I am going to GAG!

Honestly, the only person who is 'saving' this TN for me is Carmen Salinas. She's got more brains than all of them put together.

Susanita

Cielo, cute, tks mucho

At least María didn't drag being mad on for episodes, now onward to the 1st breakup.

I'm confused with 2 characters, Pepino & Oscar. I think Pepino is a designer that admires Victoria, but who is Oscar?

Pobre Fernanda can't choose her own dress, so cancel the party already!!!

Here is a picture of the cute Capetillo family at Disneylandía.

I don't see any fur peaking out from Eduardo's shirt.

Sondie i'm not too familiar with Mejia's works as say Variopinta is who seems to have seen a lot of his work. I do recall reading on the Esmas website before CS2010 started over here how people were up in arms over that remake and his casting of the main character. Eduardo Yanez as Juan Diablo i couldn't stretch my imagination that far into watching a 50 year old man prance around like he's 25-28 years old in that one. It seems the American audience couldn't do it either that's why they eventually put it on at 12 midnight because of the ratings.

Variopinta maybe he got a full body wax before he went on vacation with his family that is one hairy man:)

Cielo i see you're traveling to my neck of the woods have a safe trip.

Cielo de Levy loved your posts on Will's blog and I love your recaps, you're such a great fun!

As I've said before, I wasn't really into the novela at the beginning, I was only into Max/William and Maria/Maite but it gets better. I think these episodes are just extremely slow and bad edited.

Have a safe trip!

Novelas where Mejia was the executive producer:

Triunfo del amor (2010/11)
Corazón salvaje (2009/10)
Fuego en la sangre (2008)
Mundo de fieras (2006)
La esposa virgen (2005)
La madrastra (2005,07) & La madrastra... años después (2005)
Mariana de la noche (2003/04)
Entre el amor y el odio (2002)
Abrázame muy fuerte (2000/01)
Rosalinda (1999)
La usurpadora (1998) & Más allá de... La usurpadora (1998)
Esmeralda (1997)

Looking at the list of his novelas, I haven't seen a ton of Mejia novelas. But oddly enough, the first novela I ever watched (Esmeralda) was his. It was an assignment from my Spanish conversation professor in college. We watched the show, discussed it, and then broke into groups to write our own mini novela skits, and perform them in front of the class. It was great fun. :)

Anyway, that novela was a HUGE hit for him in Mex and internationally, and seemed to set him up to have more control over what he produced. From what I can tell, Mejia seems to be criticized for filling his novelas with every single novela cliche outh there, and not being afraid to go over the top is the way to describe it. But it seems to work for him. From what I can tell, most of his novelas get big ratings in Mexico, and abroad.

Wikipedia lists these as his failures (although even some of them did well outside of Mexico): Rosalinda, La esposa virgen, Mundo de fieras, and Corazón salvaje.

That's not a bad track record, so he must be tuned in to what the majority of his viewers want and will watch. Maybe some of us here are not his target audience?

About the conversation while nuzzling: I believe he asked what the scent was and she said the perfume was lilies. I could be wrong.
Also, am I the only one who just gets a page full of letters when I click on the "Triunfo Recap Feed"??

Vivi apparently after CS he got a lot of flack from his targeted audience and vowed he cast more younger actors as his main leads in his next projects that would be Triunfo and the Cunos de Lobos remake he did with William also. The people who are his targeted audience really were up in arms about him doing the remake of the classic Cunos de Lobos. So it does seem that he was getting full of himself and casting whoever he wanted as a lead even though they were too old to do the part.

CdL: you crack me up with your 'Idk what she said because I'm too distracted by Max leaning into her hair and smelling her.' have fun in Nueva York.

I too, am very amused by 'cappers ending with 'Max in kayak.'

CS09 didn't fail here; the ratings were good. As I said in another thread the network moved it to accommodate the mandatory broadcast window for StuD and because they liked the idea of putting first-run novelas at midnight. It also seems to be working for them: LVO was originally meant to air two years ago in prime, but for some reason was delayed.

International distribution is a major element of success in today's TV production and Televisa novelas are seen and enjoyed all over the planet.

If the ratings had been bad, it would have ended up in daytime like Te Amare en Silencio a few years ago.

Re SM: I've seen most of the novelas on that list and I have to say that a couple of them only kept me because of the cast rather than the direction of the story. I adore Jorge Salinas and will watch anything he's in (even Las Vias del Amor which I might otherwise have avoided) and I was really annoyed at the ending of La Esposa Virgen. I wonder how the original book ended.

On that note, where can one get copies of Caridad Bravo Adams' books? They all seem to be out of print.

I believe those who watched CS2009 said that was the reason for the move ratings because it was a big production with a lot of stars in it. So the fans of CS2009 on here didn't really care for the move to midnight but it happened.

I also remember asking why it wasn't moved to the afternoon but at the time they weren't going to do that because of the afternoon lineup.

If that was the case one would think they would have done that with STUD yank it and move it to midnight too.

The fans of Gancho were up in arms when that was moved also to the midnight hour because of ratings but i do remember some Gancho fans saying they at least got to see it twice once at midnight and once in the afternoon. I don't recall them doing that for CS2010.At least that was what they were told was the reason for the move, so it seems if it's because of a mandatory schedule for another novela then then they shouldn't start a novela up then yank it because another one has to start at a certain schedule.

Thanks to Blusamarai, Vivi, Urban A, et al. for the background info on Mejia telenovelas. I will reserve judgement on this one for a while.

Sondie

I hate, hate, hate, that Maria gave into Max so easily...did they consumate already?

I kknow they are in LOVE and all, but it should have been way more sweet than: "c'mon, you know whey we are both here!". ugh!

Also, she is sooo ready for a committment, no boyfriend, just str8 to marriage and a kid! ha!

"Max squinting uncomfortably" That is his trademark look I think- always what he reverts to.

Here is La Madrastra in diez minutos.

One of the funniest videos I have seen & yes that is Padre Tadeo as Bruno among others that you will recognize

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3RS0g-LJNY&feature=related

Vivi: You bring up a good point...I am probably not Mr. Mejia's target audience which is why I am having some difficulty with some of these characters (in search of their real personas)!!

I suppose that because of her stature, Ms. Perroni can pull off all of these "little girl" type of responses. Is she from Mexico?

Would also agree that EY playing a 20 something is a HUGE stretch. He is not father of the bride material, but he is not a 20 something, either. I never saw CS and from the sounds of it...I'm probably glad that I didn't!

With that said...when he has a nice hair cut and Armani suits, EY is easy on the eyes. LOL!

I'm not up on the day to day stuff at Univision, but considering their uneasy relationship with Televisa, I am wondering whether Televisa isn't intentionally making things difficult for them.

Univision's contract for rebroadcast rights to Televisa's programming expires in 2017 and Univision won the suit that was in and out of court for several years. If they renew it (which nobody is talking about right now) they will have to pay substantially higher rebroadcast fees for Televisa's programming.

One of the original issues of CS09 undoubtedly must be that this was way too soon to remake it because the 1993 series isn't "dated" and was perfect. No matter who would have been cast in it the critics would have panned it and many viewers don't allow themselves to make up their own minds. People in the ad business in the US often "handicap" new shows and I often think that this creates self-fulfilling prophecies.

I will point out here that anyone who objected to Eduardo Yanez because of his age should remember that his character in Destilando Amor was a graduate student in the early episodes and therefore couldn't have been much over 25. As for CS I also absolutely believe that 30-year-olds of 1875 had to have looked a lot older than 30-year-olds of today. Yanez doesn't look 30 by today's standards, but if he could go back to 1875 I bet he would pass.

FC has been playing younger characters for some time as well. I'll bet he will do so for at least another 5 years (He'll be 45 on his next birthday) or as long as he can stay in shape and be willing to cover any grey in his hair.

Back to the time slot issues: This will be completely meaningless in a couple of years when everyone has TiVOs and DVRs.

Variopinta- I never tire of seeing those Soup clips of La Madrastra, or any of the other novelas Joel has made fun of. LOL!!! I never saw La Madrastra, but as Joel even pointed out, it was hugely popular, and seems to have thrown every sort of absurd, over the top, tn cliche into the mix. I'm going to watch that video again. :)

Thanks for your recap Cielo. Like Carlos, I enjoy your rapturous praise of WL. He is such a guilty pleasure!

Yes I hope Maria does not give into Max too much more but after those besos I don't see it happening.

Yes remove Fernanda now.

Also thanks to NovelMaven for your recap. I didn't read it until late last night.

please tell me this is not another incest show like llena de amor. I got the feeling that Os is Juan Pablo's dad when he went to the church (a few eppys ago) and that makes Max Juan Pablo brother and Maria's uncle.
Please say im wrong.

Vivi,
If you find any of Talk Soup's other novelas, let me know, much better than the novela itself.

I didn't think novelas did incest but I haven't seen Llena de amor.

Variopinta i loved the La Madrasta spoof i get a big kick out of it whenever i see it.

Getting back to big Ed as i said it depends on the individual i wasn't buying into a 50 year old man playing a pirate and by what i read on other blogs a lot of people had issues with that casting too. I didn't see Destilando after i saw him yelling Gavitoa i turned the channel and called it a day on that novela.

Obvious Mejia took the criticism to heart because he did say he would make a effort to cast younger actors. Yes people were up in arms from the comments i read on other blogs because he was doing the remake of a all time classic Cunos de Lobos. So if the fans of CS were upset because of his version of CS i can well understand the emotions of fans from that novela too.As for FC he's not really a actor that i myself have to see whatever he's in i only just recently started to like him after watching him in MEPS. After STUD i think i might go back to avoiding his novelas.

As for remaking CS well i can't comment on it's predecessor because i didn't see it. I did see the previous version of Triunfo which was EPDA i believe was made in 1999 i happened to like that version which was from what i heard a version of another novela which i didn't see. I can say that it's very soon to be making a remake of this novela.

Ebony- Ossie and Juan Pablo are around the same age. So not father and son. And we've seen in flashback who Juan Pablo's real dad is. It's some married guy that Bernarda burned to a crsisp, along with his wife and child. Yikes. So Maria D. and Max are not related in away way.

The audience has not yet been let in on Ossie's secret though- something he spoke about via confession to Juan Pablo that JP told him was forgivable since he's just trying to protect his family.

What Llena de Amor has incest in it?

Aren't Juan Pablo and OS around the same age?

In MEPS there was incest. Sniffles and Curls (aka Aurora and Santi) were first cousins. They got preggers and married and lived happily ever after.

In Mi Pecado, the Maite Perroni character was the result of father-daughter incest.

In Llena de Amor, they aren't really cousins, but when they first started falling in love they thought they were first cousins. It was highly frowned upon, but no one was objecting to it on huge moral grounds. Jarocha jumped in at one point and said in some regions of Mexico and parts of society it's not a huge deal if first cousins marry, but in others it is. Just depends.

Is someone keeping a Bernarda hit list yet?

4 Murders:
Her husband (1)
Her lover/his wife/his child (3)

2 Attempted Murders:
Victoria
Maria

Did I miss any?

Thanks, Cielo. I so appreciate these recaps. If I loved the show I can relive it; if I enjoyed it BUT . . . I can relive it with a laugh.

I can't remember whether Rene Strickler was as aggressive with Christina (Adela) as William was last night with Maria (Maite). But everything is just a little big stronger, more dramatic, weirder, etc., in this version.

I loved the more restrained air of the actors in EPDA. The story is dramatic enough without the extreme stuff. But, that said, Maite plays the poor vulnerable orphan, IMHO, just a little bit better than Adela (or Bambi as we used to call her on the forums). Adela has a back of steel -- takes a minute to see the broken hearts in all of her characters. Maite's Maria leads with the heart. For this novela, I like Maite's approach.

Whether that saves the whole thing remains to be seen. There's just so many strange choices made in casting and behavior along the way (Fernanda?? Good God).

I'm not an automatic Mejia-hater. I actually liked both Abrazame Muy Fuerte and La Madrastra, for example, two VR vehicles. I actually made it all the way through FELS (Jorge Salinas, of course!)

It does concern me that novela quality is generally going down. There are gems out there (Donde esta Elena was soooo good), but I can't assume that the prime time Univision line-up is going to hold my attention in the way that it did in the past (I think -- we don't always remember well!)

And still I tune in . . .

I am watching Llena de amor which is right up there with the worst novelas I've ever seen. But after all the time spent in trying to understand the setup, I can't let go. LOL

Gosh Vivi & we haven't even finished wk 2

I'm really not minding this novela, at least it's moving at a fast pace, for now. And Wm Levy is very easy to take.

I never saw Cuna de Lobos, but whom is being looked at for the role played by Maria Rubio? It would be interesting if it were Diana Bracho, who was in the 1986 production but my money -- for the moment -- is on Jacqueline Andere.

BTW I read through the entire list of ENDA recaps and didn't see this, but I had heard that the lace shawl worn by Carloca was a gift given to Leticia Calderone by Diana Bracho, who wore it as the same character in Cadenas de Amargura.

I think that incest -- or the threat of it -- is going to be a popular cliche going forward. When I was watching MDF I wondered whether first cousins are allowed to marry in Mexico despite the fact that I knew Juan Cristobal and Paulina were not related at all. Then there was the issue over whether Damien or Gabriel sired Luicito which would have made no difference genetically.

The taboo on this subject has been broken, so we can expect it to surface again. And again.

Osvaldo's secret is likely to be the same as the one in EPDA.

I never saw Cunos de Lobos but i do know from some of the sites it was a all time classic even more so than CS. I read so many comments from people who didn't want Mejia as part of the project they were ready to lynch him from some of things i read from people.

William is in it for awhile there was a rumor that Mejia wanted Maite also but he went with someone called Rebecca Jones as the Diana Bracho role.

I have no idea when we'll get to see this over here but the rumor on William's page from one of the people who post is that it will be shown on the weekends.

Vivi shame on you for reminding us of the Curls and Sniffles haha:)There was specualtion for awhile if i remember that Curls might not be the son of his father.

NovelaMaven i forgot that yes Lu was a product of incest her mother being raped by her father in Mi pecado i guess because that story surfaced near the end that it wasn't main focal point of the entire story. It just gave us a reason why Rosario was like she was.

Traveling Lady i like Maite the more i see her, i remember the first time i really saw her in CCEA the first actress she reminded me of was Victoria Ruffo.I saw her in La Fiera with Guillermo Capetillo and liked her ever since in that.

Donde Esta Elisa? Was a very good novela and the one i really can't miss a episode now is Alguien te Mira.

I don't think Cuna de Lobos works for this time period. I hope Mejía has the sense to put it in the 80's or earlier when the medical advances wouldn't make the main conflict unnecessary now to go through.

Rebeca Jones was in Cuna de Lobos, she played the part of Vilma, the wife of the evil son of Catalina Creel. That was one of the main characteres of the story. In the new version it will be played by Dominika Paleta.

The role of Diana Bracho will be played by Danna García.

I also like Maité more than Adela. I don't like William more than Renée but I think the problem is that I find his character kind of predatory at times and lifeless in others so I'm not sure if that's a problem with the adaptation.

Cielo: You had me chuckling all the way through! "Slap. Her. For. God's. Sake." "just kill her already. Please." LOL! Man you caught my vibe and then some!
============
Damn, Max is a fast mover. I guess he can't get out of playboy mode even when he knows he's got a respectable girl sitting in front of him. My antennae were up and bleeping "Danger Zone!" in that apartment. Jeez! Get a grip, Max!

Traveling Lady: Yeah, I remember the Bambi days! LOL! Maybe they'll show the EPDA version on late at night again.

Sara: I am thinking Naty gets a makeover too. She could use one, that's for darn sure. Hope contacts are a part of that and a trip to an expensive hair dresser, maybe a spa day thrown in!

Max sure is used to having his way. I wouldn't last 1hour, with his amorous ways. Hope Maria holds out longer than normal. that oughta teach him.

Well, Duelo de Pasiones was set in the present and the issue of Alina's paternity could obviously have been settled with a blood test, so the only way that could get put off was for her father to be totally mad. All through that one I kept thinking it should have been set in 1905 instead of 2005. Especially after the cell phones disappeared.

When I was watching Dona Barbara it drove me nuts that the production wasn't set in 1920-something because of the issues in the story and because of the people in the nearby town never having seen a movie.

In both of the above examples and others I could name it was like the producers couldn't commit to making a novela de epoca and did it halfway. That bugs me.

I hate it when glasses are meant to imply "unattractive". Especially since I wear glasses.

I rather liked the big-earringed Victoria. I thought that looks was a little snappier and had more attitude than her usual costuming.

I'm also really liking this TN, although I wish there were a few more flashbacks (with believably aged actors...but it's a pipe dream.)

Thanks to Vivi in DC for the Bernarda Body Count!

This is off topic but does anyone know where i can order Monte Cristo (with Fernada from MEPS), I was able to order Alborada (that was great by the way)and Eres tu with Lucero from amazon but didnt see MC

Re: Dona Barbara, I didn't get to see it, but it was written I thought in that 1920's era and was to take place in that time frame. Now I'm glad I didn't see that one. I don't like them changing things like that especially with a classic work of literature as that was taken from.

They had EPDA on last year in the afternoon on Telefutura. If i remember correctly Rene's character was pretty fast with Adela's too.

It is kind of funny after Max has his heart to heart talk with dear old dad he still can't stop being a Lothario with maria even though he knows she is a innocent.Old habits die hard for some.

Sara i understand how you feel i tell anyone who has ask me why i don't wear contacts instead of glasses. I don't like anything put in my eyes and i'm very comfortable with my looks and nor do i think my eye glasses make me ugly or unattractive either.

ebony: do you need CC? do you want the whole thing or just a few episodios like Uni puts out on its DVD's? I know about a couple of different sites for you. You can email me a gmail.

I enjoyed Dona Barbara because it was so well cast and acted. The pilot footage I saw at the Telemundo upfront had Gabriela Spanic, so I was pleased that she was ultimately replaced. Nobody could have done this as well as Edith Gonzales.

That production suffered from the same time-period fuzziness as FELS and other novelas produced at that time. You never saw a phone, the character who arranges for the first movie showing in the town has a boom box ten episodes later and a laptop computer a dozen episodes after that, Santos' rich-bitch girlfriend has some obvious surgical enhancements (which Barbara makes jokes about), and the younger female characters were dressed in stuff that was in style during the production time period.

I really wish that producers would stop playing games with this. The public isn't stupid.

Blusamurai, you need to see the 1993 CS, but not the absurdly short abridgment. If the full series is available on DVD, get it. This series was perfection.

I think that it is a problem when telenovelas that were made many years ago keep getting remade and the story doesn't work because of the issues with the new time period. However, if Mejia plans to do a serial then the time period issues will be much more glaring since people will compare it not to novelas but to other tv serials and(fortunately) we have some good ones right now being produced for Mexican television and there are also those that come from other countries with also great quality.

Ebony I'm not sure where you can get "Montecristo" but I think the whole novela is up in youtube. And I think there's a channel that has all the interactions between the main characteres played by Diego Olivera (Padre Juan Pablo in TDA) and Silvia Navarro.

Very OT:
I decided to rewatch CS93 again (for the 3rd time) because no matter how much I try I can't see when/how/why did Mónica and Juan fall in love with each other. And it drives me mad. I want to adore that telenovela and be member of the Church of Obsessed Salvajitas because it's so well directed and acted, the scenery and the music are awesome, I love Don Noel and Azucena, and Juan del Diablo is one of the coolest TN heroes ever, but I simply can't feel and understand that so-called legendary romance. While in Pride and prejudice one can see the moments of growing attraction and mutual understanding, in CS I could rewatch the first 27 episodes for ten times and still don't get it. Maybe it's because of the personality of Mónica. Once Juan called her an oyster once because she was so introverted and he couldn't figure out what she was feeling or what she was thinking of. Maybe that's why I was so surprised when she confessed (out of the blue) that she realized she was deeply in love with him for a very long time.
And I'm sad because the original Luzbel scenes of the book were cut.

Oh, and I'd love to read more books of Caridad Bravo Adams, too.

Not that OT:
When I was a kid/teenager I loved three kind of telenovelas: tons of Brazilian gems, an Ernesto Alonso classic (YCEM) and the three Mejías, aka Esmeralda, La usurpadora and Rosalinda. No matter how naive and stupid these three were, in my mind the expression "Mexican telenovela" meant those typical scenes, sets, acting styles and music that Mejía loved to use so much. I criticize him all the time because he's a pretentious, blind egoist and his shows are getting worse every year but in the meantime I admit I enjoyed many of them. Aribeth loves melodrama and Mejía is the master of it. After 20 episodes of crap he always manage to create 10 minutes of pure magic (like many of the Luzbel scenes in CS09) and that magic makes it worth watching them. Lately he follows a strange pattern: he makes two shows with mediocre/bad ratings and then he makes a megasuccess. Like Entre el amor(2002)+Mariana(2003) -> La madrastra(2005) / La esposa(2005)+Mundo de fieras(2006) -> FELS (2008) / CS(2009)+TDA(2010) -> ???

Okay, as for his filmography:
* I haven't seen La madrastra, Mundo de fieras and Mariana de la noche. I want to watch Mariana because I'm a Salinas fan like Urban A. and Alejandra Barros is a lovely actress.
* Hated Abrazame muy fuerte and La esposa virgen. (And I'm an Adela fan.)
* Liked Esmeralda, FELS and La usurpadora.
* Loved Rosalinda and Entre el amor y el odio.
* Adored the crazy, ridiculous, badly written CS09. I started to watch it because I'm an YCEM-fanatic and when I look at big Ed my ovaries explode, but I stayed because the whole cast was funny and adorable.

I know many people who feel the same way for TDA as I felt for CS: they criticize it and love it at the same time. They're either fans of Ruffo/Romo/Levy/Maite or simply like the story of Cristal/EPDA.

Popping in late to say Gracias, Cielo and have a great time in La Gran Manzana!

Thanks, all! Will read comments later. =)

Cielo - I am way late to the party, and not just your blog party. ¡feliz cumpleaños!

Yes, I love WL smile, lips, and him smellig her. Hot! But, not liking his character as much as in Sorti.

I did not see Cuidado con el ángel, and so far have not seen the chemistry in Triuno with Maite Perroni, but we will see. I cannot resist watching him.

Agree and enjoy most of the comments.

Thank you.

dpd

ps maybe I should change my name to solatetotheparty-itisover . :)
