El Mundo de Telemundo: Week of Jan. 10
Labels: alguien, aurora, fantasma, herederos, telemundo
What an anti-climax.
We don't need an extended epilogue to know that Eduardo and his Elena lived happily ever after.
The shot of the colt being given to the baby on his birthday is derivative from PDG.
Elena Lafe should have taken a lot more satisfaction at how La Gemela ended up in the mental hospital. That waste of humanity deserved nothing else.
The doctor was smart to not be hasty to declare her dead.
Eduardo should have flushed Montecristo's ashes.
Of course Eduardo and Elena don't look a day older when their son is obviously 7 or 8 years old.
Yesterday's episode should have been the finish. If TM ever shows this in reruns they need to do a better editing job.
I must say that the finales on all (about 3 to 5) tns I've seen, have been such a let down. I lose interest on all of them on the last week. I always like the build-up, then .... pffft ... zzzzzz.
aaah, story of my life too.
It was a big let down the final weeks of this novela and this was one of the most boring Gran Finals i've ever seen. There was so many time jumps of how old the children were bleah not a good job at all from the writers. They should have finished this novela a couple of weeks ago and given us two hours of Alguien and not waste our time.
Urban great one about Eduardo flushing Montecristo's remains down the toilet, i know i would have done it.LOL:)
Geez am i suddenly supposed to believe the BFF never kept in touch not one single phone call or email between them. Laura only kept in touch with Martin?
In addition, that's why the Cesar/Blanca plot is maintaining my interest in Aurora. at least the writers are prolonging their consummation, thus keeping me in anticipation.
I was so disturbed by Julián! Still shuddering. Yucky. That was a bit much for me! And I’m still upset with Mauricio for not escaping when he had the chance earlier this week. (I know, it would’ve been against TN regulations for something that epic to occur this soon antes de la última semana, pero…)
Siento tu dolor, Hombre, with this novela’s police. Nothing about Rod’s investigation adds up. (No offense to my hometown, but) This police department doesn’t seem to know the importance of things like VIN numbers, weapon forensics, etc. Tisk, tisk.
Ladies, I definitely saw nalgas on Juli. Replay Chapter 80 (3/5) at http://msnlatino.telemundo.com/novelas/Alguien_te_Mira/videos, and you’ll see thighs and such. He was desnudo under that apron…
I've noticed that the comments on this series are dwindling in the last few days, so I suspect that a number of people have bailed. I'm getting more than a little annoyed with the writers because the direction of the story is really screwed up.
Or is it just that Telemundo is having a love affair with crime and hasn't figured out how to do science fiction properly?
The Blanca/Cesar relationship is starting to grate on my nerves. More food is being abused and Cesar is probably trying to figure out how to top this last move. Lorenzo should be afraid for his life right now and Natalia is losing it completely.
Federico needs to be consequenced. I'm surprised that Martin didn't kick his arse into next week.
GENERAL
In the almost 18 years since I started watching novelas I have only bailed a few times. Who else has bailed in the past and on what titles? Was it the writing or the actors that caused you to do it?
I bailed on La Ley del Silencio because I didn't find the story interesting in the first week or two and I bailed on La Traicion because I didn't find the story even remotely believable. Apart from the good twin//evil twin cliche (which isn't limited to telenovelas) I refused to believe that only one of them would inherit a chronic disease from the father. Compound that with the reality that no respectable gentleman of that period would have shoulder-length hair and I had had enough. I was probably also watching the competition at the same time (whatever that was). It takes a lot for me to bail on a novela de epoca.
I almost bailed on El Clon because the remake was almost identical to the original. What was the point of that? At least Televisa's remakes usually have something different about them to keep us tuned in.
There should be a rule that 'años despues' or 'happy ever after' scenes in the gran finale of a novela can't be more than 5 minutes long.
GENERAL - I've bailed on a few novelas in my 10 years of watching. I could not get into La Fea, Más Sabe el Diablo and some other Univisión novelas that I can't remember the name of. Sometimes, where they changed virtually the whole cast and the story mid novela like Velo de Novia and Victorinos, I basically bailed but checked it out from time to time and watched the Gran Finale.
I loved La Traición until they destroyed the story about 2/3 of the way in. I watched and blogged the whole thing though.

THE HEIRS OF MONTE: SYNOPSIS AND DESCRIPTION OF EACH OF THE CHARACTERS
SYNOPSIS
This story is of five brothers: John, Joseph, Peter, Lucas and Gaspar, who are responsible for working and maintaining the del Monte ranch lands for decades. When their father Don Emilio del Monte arrived to build his ranch he turned it into the most important and prosperous in the area. Now years later upon the death of their adoptive father they are in line to inherit his respected legacy and carry on maintaining what they also contributed to helping to build. But a woman, Paula, who knows of these five children, arrives the same day of the reading of the will and to the surprise of the others, for the same purpose.
Accompanied by Modesto, the eternally faithful servant of the family, the brothers are preparing to read the will that was left by their recently deceased father. What they never thought, on such a sad day in their lives is that it will mark a final break from all they have known to be true and the beginning of a new story that they will all be irretrievably trapped into. When the lawyer is about to read the will and show a video with the last words of Don Emilio del Monte, Paula del Monte appears. She is the only biological child of del Monte and she has not just come to receive her share of the inheritance, but also to revolutionize the days of these men, and to establish in their mist a most coveted place of equality and acceptance.
Since her arrival, every day life on the ranch will never be the same. Paula is ready to do anything to shake down the roof upon their heads. She wants back what she feels she was denied yet deserved. That being a great motivator for her strong resentment at being ignored by her paternal family, she therefore has plans already underway and each of the brothers will serve to realize them. What Paula del Monte expected was that in this place with all its majesty, a place she always yearned to be reigning in full equality, would also be a place she finds the eternal love that will forever change her goals. For the first time in her life she can not control her feelings, much less her emotions when it comes to the strong attractive man who stands in her way, a man she was not prepared to deal with. So her plans will crumble while Sofia Cañadas, her mother, will try by all means to make Paula abide by her promise made years ago: to acquire all the assets of Del Monte.

The police stubbornly sticking to the idea that Rod is the killer is annoying me. "He's the killer because we found her dead in his bed. But why would he do that? He's just trying to throw us off his trail, by pretending someone is trying to frame him." Eh???
"The evidence, like lack of blood, prove she was killed elsewhere, then placed in Rod's bed. But Rod must have done it himself, transported her in his invisible vehicle and then placed her in his own bed." Eh???
"He killed her while hopped up on drugs and alcohol and out of his mind. Drug addicts commit horrible crimes. But all THESE crimes require cool, calm calculation." Eh???
"Rod had cocaine AND a sleeping drug in his system. Now we find a needle mark on his upper chest/neck. Well, he must have injected himself to try to trick us." Eh??? WTF???
Yes, Julian was naked under that apron. :)
I hate that Piedad is so in the dark about everything right now. She has none of the relevant info, like knowing the name of the guy Daniela was dating- Daniel Vidal. Now she's being spoon fed a version of Julian's relationship with his stepfather that will prepare her to believe that the stepfather is the murderer. I do like that her belief in Rod's innocence has not been shaken. Even Benja is doubting him, which really disappointed me considering how many times Rod has been there for him.

THE HEIRS OF MONTE: DESCRIPTION OF EACH OF THE CHARACTERS - Part 1
Juan del Monte (Mario Cimarro)
He is the oldest of the five del Monte brothers. A man of his word, a well respected man with moral standings also a very attractive man, a friendly natured person but with the strength of character and ability to command. A lovely man…a just man. Since childhood, when he reached his new home from Punta Arenas, he became a reflection of Emilio del Monte, his adopted father, who always taught him to take charge of the most important responsibilities of the ranch and farms. So he became an agronomist and now intends to keep the legacy of the patriarch. For years he has maintained a stable relationship with Julieta Millán who has become his fiancé. With the revelation of the existence of this biological daughter of del Monte suddenly his life is radically changed. The day was allegedly to commit to his girlfriend of the past 10 years, but will Paula del Monte’s appearance set into motion a different outcome. The attraction between the two is nothing short of explosive. From that moment the world so far known to them both will radically transform….he is caught between a rock and a collapsing wall……it could very well be the beginning of the end with his relationship with all his brothers and everything they have built for years, ….will he cave into the unbridled passion he feels for Paula and the burning passion she will unleash on him.
Paula del Monte (Marlene Favela)
Paula is the only biological daughter of Emilio del Monte. Conceived in an extra-marital affair and denied standing by her father, she as the only woman in the Del Monte clan grew up with a despairing loneliness from parental neglect which turned her into a cold, calculating, and obsessive person. Nothing stops her until she has reach her goal, and she does not know the meaning of the word ‘fear‘. though she has her flaws she also has a sparkling personality and possesses sheer beauty which has captivated all who know her. This particularly happened while transforming into an economist. But she has never allowed herself to love. The resentment and the lack of being with familia has brought her to now come put things into place and nothing will stop her. Her arrival in La Rinconada del Monte will cause the most angry reactions as well as unleash the most powerful passions. When she has the slightest suspicion that he has fallen for Juan, her convictions will be shattered and her objectives of revenge take a course that she never thought. Thus, plans will crumble, starting a fight in which love, money and ambition becomes entangled, …. the heirs want to keep all the assets of Del Monte.
Jose del Monte (Jose Luis Resendez)
Jose del Monte is a man who is imposing on the premises. He is the foreman of the field, a retiring type, yet comprehensively ambitious. Although he is a grateful for the opportunity he was given to have a family, he struggles with the memory of his early years that were spent in an orphanage. This in turn has caused some resentment that he tries to hide. His eyes betray him as his silence will not…. but above all he has a lifelong rivalry with John, his older brother for whom he feels a strange mixture of love-hate. One of his strengths is his attractive appeal…he knows that he can have his choice of women. However, the secret and tempestuous romance with Beatrice (Efraín Mardones wife) will bring him harsh consequences that will put him in check and will bring to light his most fearsome side.
From Soulcatgirl on TW, a translation of the description of the main characters of this novela:
THE HEIRS OF MONTE: DESCRIPTION OF EACH OF THE CHARACTERS - Part 2
Pedro del Monte (Ezekiel Montalt)
Of the five brothers Pedro Del Monte is the playboy, charismatic, encouraging the parties and who constantly struggles to maintain unity among the brothers. It’s his responsible for the mechanical workshop of the field and as a child was abandoned because he was conceived in an extra-marital affair of an upper-class women in Santiago. Since then, it is a veiled condemnation of that segment of society that, in his eyes, has rejected him. In the loving playing field he has not been so lucky. Despite his imposing facade he goes from woman to woman without attaining love. But behind this eternal hummingbird aloofness lies a secret that he has tried to suppress
but what is about to explode, he is deeply in love with Julieta Millán, the girlfriend of his brother John. So he drowns his frustrations in alcohol and with the arrival of Paula del Monte, he will unleash the most incredible intrigues to prevent the marriage of John and Juliet.
Gaspar del Monte (Fabián Ríos)
The fourth son of Del Monte from the north, he is in charge of the dairy laboratory, and is at his best when taming the horses and racing them. Was of the five boys the one closest to their mother. Of the brothers, is the one most caring and noble with the best of good intentions but can have an explosive nature. His great love is Guadalupe, the daughter of Charrasqueado a restaurant owner, with whom he would love to marry and raise a family, but he can not. A secret past riddled with rivalries between Charrasqueado and the Mardones and the Del Monte‘s, very much in the style of Romeo and Juliet prevents him from publicly acknowledging his relationship with Guadalupe. This is why Gaspar will fight to uncover all mysteries until completed and finally let’s him live in peace with his girlfriend.
Lucas del Monte (Jonathan Islands)
Lucas is the youngest of the clan and spoiled by the whole family. In the end, all his brothers were in charge of raising him. He was always an outstanding student, a good person and his greatest happiness is to work in the fields and care for their horses. So far his greatest role model is John, whom he admires and respects. Passionate about the ranch, is coupled to sing along with Johnny, Amador and Guadeloupe. The arrival of Paula del Monte will cause a turnaround in his life, because he for the first time begins to feel a withering platonic attraction for his newly arrived sister, which will generate major conflicts between the brothers. This blind love will prevent him from giving a real chance to Rosario Millán ( Juliets sister) who loves him deeply and silently.

This secret Modesto will continue keeping under lock and key, as he is convinced that the day this unfolds it will likely be as hard hit for him as it is for the Del Monte brothers, which could even end the loving relationship they have maintained for years.
Efraín Mardones (Peter Rendón)
Efraín is an only son, and like his father, is almost a member of the clan of the mount. While helping Modesto chores he also works in the field. Naive, but cheerful character and gentle, he is transformed into a beloved character inside the fundo La Rinconada del Monte. It is the confidence of John, who has worked side by side since he was a very young man becomes his confidante and only friend. His world very much revolves around the del Monte‘s, even Beatriz Pereira, his wife and his son Simon are very dear to the powerful family. Jean, I thought that was a colt (I'm such a city girl). At any rate, it was adorable. Nothing is cuter than a baby animal.
I also bailed on Mas Sabe el Diablo, partly because the actors talked too fast. I'm also tired of the ex-con cliches.
Two actors kept me tuned in to Mundo de Fieras: Cesar Evora and Edith Gonzales. Velo de Novia was completely ridiculous, Eduardo Santamarina notwithstanding.
I bailed on a lot of Venevision productions in the mid-90s because the actors mumbled. Now I don't watch them because the actors all look like they're stamped out of a Xerox machine.
I agree, just about the most boring gran final, but we got to see most of the characters happy. Corina looked nice in a fairly revealing top. Laura looked weird in her new hairstyle (maybe it had something to do with the fact that she married a Swede named Oleg - just kidding).
They were so worried about Gemela escaping that after she was put in that Hannibal Lechter thing, and died about 6 months later, Dr. Ronald let her body rot before she could be buried, then they had a sealed coffin. That seemed to do the trick.
Elena's girl was named Germania. Tomasito got a horse for his one year old birthday, and Germania got a horse later, reminding Elena of when she got a horse (the one scene which did get me a little emotional, even if it was copied from another novela).
Walter's farm turned into some great big chicken business, with a name a little like McDonalds. Andrea had turned him down initially, saying her love was like a child's love, but he had helped her grow. She admitted she left the monastery in part because she liked to go shopping. So years later, when her car broke down, she and all her packages were picked up by now rich Walter, in his big Mercedes. This teaches us that material things are good, and don't marry that farm boy until he's in your social class. Okay...
Rebeca did finally get custody of Eduardito (Dulce's kid), although nobody asked him how he felt about it.
Chapparro agreed to stay on with Elena, working as a security guard, and was given "part" of the $1 million reward for locating Gemela (why not all?)
And Michel and Milady had a reality show called "How to be Impossibly Beautiful without Really Trying". Just kidding about that last one.
I doubt they'll bring out a dvd of this show, as very few of the Telemundo shows get that (maybe 1 of every 4), even though almost all the Univision shows do. But I'd definitely buy it, especially for all the amazingly attractive women, who over and over, found ways to wear the skimpiest, most inappropriate dresses ever (did you see them playing soccer in high heels?). And that's how it SHOULD be.
Did you notice that at Tomasito's birthday party, Latoña was wearing a long-sleeved turtleneck? It looked so bizarre among the skimpy outfits worn by the rest of the female cast.
The arrival of Julian's stepfather Daniel Vidal has opened up all sorts of possibilities. He apparently knows lots of Julian's secrets, such as that farmhouse where Julian does his dirty work.
One of the funniest scenes was when Yoyita was ironing Benja's shirt. She found it necessary to wear glasses, since she didn't want to miss one second of Benja's topless physique!
Can't anyone give Rodrigo a new shirt? BTW, that crazy guy (forgot his name) who was previously locked up as the Cazador, and who knows Rod, is in the same drug rehab center as Rod. He told Rod that the real killer is the man with the black jacket (la chamarra negra). Two seconds later, we cut to Piedad, now reluctantly living in Julian's apartment, finding a BLACK JACKET sitting on the floor under Julian's bed. Ahah!
I watched it with much of the sound turned down last night (because really bad stuff is going down on Eva Luna and I was too wimpy to watch). I am confused about many things in the non-plot right now, but don't care enough to get clarification. But what I'm really confused about and wonder if anyone knows- where did Cesar's back tatoo go?
Re: Who is the protagonist of the story?
I think this story is plot-driven, not character-driven. In many ways, it resembles some of the best police procedurals on American television. It’s well-written, and moves fast. We learn just enough about the leads to make them interesting. Its actors are young and good-looking and know their craft. But the thing that keeps us coming back is the suspense. The story continues to shock us with its twists of plot even when we thought we knew what to expect.
There were several Julián-like killers on the now defunct Law and Order: Criminal Intent. But in that show, ultimately Vincent D’Onofrio’s Detective Goren always outsmarted the Julián character. The killer was done in by his – or her -- own hubris: by underestimating the intelligence of the “dumb cop” that was pursuing him.
But in Alguien, the cops actually are dumb. The only one who wasn’t, Eva, is murdered for her trouble. (This is the kind of thing that used to happen in Raymond Chandler stories and the movies based on them.)
In my opinion, the star of the story is the story itself although Rafael Amaya, as Julián, has the greatest acting challenge. But all the actors are impressive.
Vivi -- I did the same thing. I'd missed a show or two and then tuned in half-heartedly last night. I was lost and didn't care enough to ask for directions. But I also wondered about the missing tattoo. Did he have it removed when I blinked? Crazy.
Boy things are getting mighty tight for Julian.
Vivi i think Benja did mention the name Daniel Vidal to Piedad when Daniela had her appointment with him and she told him about how Julian looked like her boyfriend the lawyer. I just don't think she is making the connection yet.Yeah the police are disappointing me big time with them jumping to conclusion where the facts just don't really add up.
Hombre i was RoFL at Yoyita on last night's episode it was really funny and then she just had to help Benja in his shirt and button it up for him.Not surprised that Benja would think Rodrigo did it he's just not a mature person at all. I did LOL when Loca Lucia put him in his place about his affair with his wife's sister when he got angry with her for driving her to work.
So Tatiana is going on a date with Angel can't she do better with her revenge than going out with that sleaze.
You guys have some good eyesight i knew Julian was bare from the not wearing his shirt when he butchered poor Mauricio i didn't see he wasn't wearing any pants or underwear.
Now did any of you noticed after Mauricio taunted him about killing his mother when he went up stairs and kept replaying their conversation in his mind. The picture on the wall looked like it was of Daniel Vidal i believe Julian's killing lair belongs to his step father. That's why he visited the place last night.
NovelaMaven you're not lying i love this story i was practically falling out of my bed yelling at Matilde to tell Luisa who Mauricio suspected and of course they left us hanging maybe waiting for Monday to hear what she said to Luisa. I'm not holding out hope though because Matilde doesn't want to make that leap from ex-husband, father of her child is now a serial killer.
I was wondering where Valeria was i'm hoping she'll help Rodrigo with clearing him innocent.
Piedad she is so frustrating to me with the mix signals she sends out and now here's Julian telling her that his step father killed his mother she wants to call the cops but he doesn't want her to cause another scandal that will effect the clinic.
Previews for Monday Daniel Vidal enters the hideaway and Julian's killing lair. Julian is panicking big time as Daniel calls hi and taunts him about knowing what he's been up to he has the evidence to prove that he's guilty. The cops look for Mauricio.
http://msnlatino.telemundo.com/novelas/Alguien_te_Mira/photo_gallery/2011-01/Muerte_sanguinaria
Btw, on the Telemundo site there is an "uncensored" version of this scene. Horrible (but I did watch it :O) Mauricio (Yul Burkle) was amazing!
NovelaMaven, I agree about this being a plot driven story but not about Eva "not" being dumb. That is one pet peeve I have with this novela and others. They tend to dumb down some characters to make others seem smarter, instead of actually making the smart characters be smart. If we compare Julian to other killers in fiction, he really isnt that clever. He is just lucky the police are totally clueless. While Eva kept getting misled and never suspecting Julian, Carvajal was smarter. Now she took Eva's place.
Also, in the original things happened faster and Mauricio, Matilde and others who found clues, didnt share them with the police so often, so the police didnt end up seeming so dumb and frustrating. The only character that seemed smart to me was Mauricio but now he is gone :( I hope some other characters takes custody of the brain before Julian leaves the novela without characters :p
Yes Hombre the actress who played Latona was Antonio's mother on Perro Amor.
Now i got one for you, on Alguien the apartment Valeria has is the same one that Antonio and then Sofia used on Perro Amor.
Eva was smart, but her problem was that she allowed herself to become personally involved with Julian -and the other suspects.
In addition to the fact that the police are dumb, I can't believe that it is so easy for any of the others --Matilde, Tatiana,Julian-- to walk into the office of the investigation any time they please.
The whole investigation seems so lame and unreal, unlike the one in DONDE ESTA ELISA?
By the way, when Camila showed up at the Clinic, they showed her going into Benja's office, but not what happened between them. What was that about? Did they cut the scene?
Hi NJ: To me, Julian's motives have already been revealed. His mother seems to have abused him. He may or may not have developed some kind of Oedipus complex but either way he loved and hated her at the same time. He killed her and blamed his stepfather and he has dedicated the past months (or maybe more) to kill his mother over and over, projecting her in different women who in his view, "neglect" their children. When he is not killing. Julian pretends to the perfect boyfriend for Piedad and annoys the hell out of me with his total fakeness :) That is what I see.
Rodrigo's story has already been told, but imo was a good one, a very human story and more engaging for my taste (this is all a matter of taste anyway) We already know why he got into drugs. He explained it to Daniela in a very realistic, subtle, sweet scene. His was not a big trauma or anything. He got into amphetamines as a student because he had a lot of pressure to be a good student and he feared disappointing his parents and professors who had very high expectations of him. Not the most complex story, but it is something that could happen to anyone, therefore, one can easily identify with him. One day one can be an A student, the next, the scum of the earth. I've enjoyed his journey back from hell, into deeper hell and now back up. I've always been a sucker for underdogs, outcasts, anti heroes, and Rodrigo is a combination of those. He is the one I feel like rooting for (both in the original version and in this one). Also, I've enjoyed his interactions with Piedad (although she irritates me more often than not), Valeria (another underdog) and Benja, (they have quite the bromance)
Yeah, Im not that interested in Benja by himself, but his friendship with Rodrigo sort of rescued him from being totally unlikable in my eyes. I wouldn't mind it if they explained the source of his sex addiction but I doubt they will.
Tatiana is the perfect "byotch" and I find her character as interesting as irritating. She is interesting but she has become a little repetitive (I feel the same way about Julian).
It seems to me all the characters have already been very well established, we know who they are, why they are how they are and so, all is left is to watch them interact until the end.
Hi NJ: To me, Julian's motives have already been revealed. His mother seems to have abused him.
It seems to me all the characters have already been very well established, we know who they are, why they are how they are and so, all is left is to watch them interact until the end.
Tan sexual esa foto es! (6/49) Thanks so much for the link; sharing definitely is caring :-)
Por qué el chico más malvado tiene que tener el cuerpazo más fino?
I was ready for this to be over when Eva was Julian's prisoner. And now, after the chainsaw segment, I'm past ready. When is this over?? The violence is getting too graphic and gratuitous.
How long is Lucy going to be able to fool everyone that she's pregnant? No spoiler here, just putting the pieces together.
I used to root for Piedad and Rodrigo, but now I want him to get out of jail, and find a better woman. But not young, silly Valerie.
Gosh, the only characters I like more than I dislike, are Matilde and Lola, maybe Rodrigo, if he stays clean.
Other than all of the above, it's a pretty good novela. ;)
Looking forward to H. de Monte,if only because the scene of the men on horses reminds me of Pasion de Gavilanes. I like Mario Cimarro pretty much. He's no Jaime Camil or Colunga, but third place ain't bad!
For those curious, it looks like the next project for a bunch of EDFE folks is a teenovela called Grachi on Nickelodeon Latin America.
We know for sure that both Isabella (Andrea) and Alexandra (Lucia) are doing this project...and by logical deduction also attached are Liannet (Milady), Mauricio (Michel) and Katie (Rebecca)--the later trio have not officially been announced (apparently will be on Jan 24); but from twitter hints and common sense, it's pretty much a done deal.
They've posted a sort of trailer up on youtube already--from what I saw and what I've read elsewhere, it looks like a combination of "High School Musical" with some supernatural elements a la "Wizards of Waverly"...Isabella plays the title/main role...not sure what everyone else id going to be doing.
Shooting started over the weekend and it's set to air in April.
I'm curious to see how this works out--if it's too teeneybopper for my liking. I'd love to see M&M reincarnated on another show, but who knows!!
Hola a todos! If you're looking for some relief from all the she-devils and murderers in prime-time, consider setting your DVR's or VCR's to catch this comedy from Colombia to be shown in the morning after the news. I don't know if it will turn out to be good, but I did see part of the first episode online and thought it was a riot.
This is a TeleColombia 2007-2008 production and it will run at 9am central time M-F starting tomorrow (Tuesday). The first episodes are given 90" slots. Not sure whether that's gonna change.
The plot: Two women, one rich, one poor, happen to give birth to sons at the same time in a rural hospital. A drunken nurse mixes up the babies: the poor boy is raised as a rico; the rich boy is raised as a pobretón. The error is discovered many years later and the two are forced to switch life places.
A lot of the humor pokes fun at class distinctions:
-- the way the hospital fawns all over the rich couple and nearly allows the poor woman to give birth on a bench outside the hospital.
-- the way the rich people pick a solid nombre español, Andrés, for their kid while the poor folks name theirs "Brayan" which is their version of the Anglo name, Brian.
(Compare the Colombian "Betty la Fea" to the Mexican "La Fea Más Bella" and you'll see why I'm so fond of the Colombian approach.)
NovelaMaven: I just now dvr'd Nuevo Rico, Nuevo Pobre. thanks for the info. 'hope it's good, and features some eye-candy, or I wouldn't be living up to my moniker.
I dont understand how the cops got dumber and dumber. After the female cop told Eva to watch out for Julian it did not enter her mind that Julian indeed was the killer after he dressed Eva up, while leaving the others nude. That showed me the killer had a lot of affection for Eva, I don't understand why she did not follow through. Am disappointed, but cant wait for what's coming next.
So many interesting comments already.
OT, on bailed novelas, I bailed on Victorinos, like Jean, when they killed off Ochmann's character and completely changed the thing. I watched the first week of La Traición and couldn't get into it. I'm not much of a Cimarro fan. Stuck it out through El Cuerpo del Deseo, but just never bought him as a serious actor.
Ditto on all the comments about the totally lame police work in Miami! And, did I miss something? I thought somehow the voice mail messages on either Rodrigo's or Daniela's phone were going to be evidence in his favor.
Didn't comment on Thursday's episode, but that chain saw scene was so realistic and so well acted by the two of them. Yikes!
I get VERY upset by Julián manipulating Piedad. She should never have agreed to go to his apartment after the medical procedure to keep Rodrigito/a in place. It's pretty clear to me that he's going to try to isolate her and drip poison into her ear about Rodrigo's guilt. I'm also disappointed with Benja. The blood test completely turned him around.
Loved the moment of stark terror on Julián's face when he found out Daniel Vidal had been there. I'm not sure where they're going with him appearing at Julián's Death Cottage.
I have a personal thing about watching novelas in that I never watch previews. I LIKE leaving someone hanging off a cliff by the fingertips and waiting until tomorrow. So, others may disagree, but I would prefer not to read about what's coming up the next day.
Vivi, I'm completely in agreement with all your points about the obstinate insistence of the cops that Rodrigo is guilty. Reminds me of "Homicide: Life on the Streets", a very good police procedural with the amazing Andre Braugher, where they were obsessed with turning the red homicide victims' names on the white board to black. Except those cops in Baltimore wanted the right killer, not like the Miami ones, who have tried to put every doctor EXCEPT Julián behind bars for being El Cazador.
Nellie that's Luisa you're talking about she did up until Daniela murder started suspecting Julian when Angel was insisting it was Benja. I think even though with the evidence they have against Rodrigo she is slowly starting to doubt whether Rodrigo is the killer.Tonight's going to be good though because with Daniel Vidal showing up all hell is breaking loose for Julian and it's about time. I think the key now is finding Mauricio's body just about all the police know he was on the trail of El Cazador so it wouldn't be a big leap to make the connection of who killed him but then again we are talking about the same police department that has accused everyone except Julian. They didn't show us anymore what Matilde was going to say about the question Luisa asked her did she know who Mauricio suspected and we the audience know but Matilde can't quite bring herself to admit that what Mauricio said about Julian is coming true.
FYI for anyone who missed it or came in late, according to my TiVo listings, Telemundo is going to rebroadcast Victoria from noon to 2p EST starting Mon,. Jan 17.
LOS HEREDEROS DEL MONTE - Gran Estreno
Hunky guys and pounding hoofs. Lots of familiar faces, too!
Five boys were adopted by a rich hacienda owner. (This is being filmed in very beautiful part of Colombia.) The father dies in what was supposed to have been an accident but I'm sure that we'll find that it wasn't. His lawyer (who played the evil butler on Pasion de Gavilanes) arrives to read the will on the day the eldest, brother, Juan, is getting engaged. He arrives with Sofia and her daughter, Paula, who is the father's illegitimate daughter and who is left an equal share of the estate but her share is big house.
The brothers knew nothing about this and their reactions run from disbelief to rejection but Juan is obviously attracted to Paula. The other brothers have romantic interests that will be developed further as the novela goes forward.
Lots of eye candy here for us ladies. Which is your favorite? I have to go with Juan. I'm a big Cimarro fan but Lucas is very cute, too.
Wow, I loved this novela's first night. This is the first time I've seen the actor who plays Juan, and I could not keep my eyes off him. If he's in every episode no matter how dumbed down this gets, I think I will stay tuned. Did I find an actor worthy of Fernando Colunga's mantel in novelas? Or should I call him telemundoFernando?
Why are firstborn cowboy males so frequently named "Juan" and usually have a smarter younger brother? This is the second such role for Mario Cimarro, whom I think is very easy on the eyes. BTW, ladies, he looks exactly the same in person.
It also looks like he's about to leave a perfectly nice fiancee for a greedy b1tch who thus far is showing that an apple can't fall far from the tree. She's just as greedy about money as about collagen and silicone (I'm a gata salvaje with words when I choose to be).
The music suggests that this will have a lighter tone than PDG and with this many characters (Thanks, Jean, for the backstories on them) this will run 200 episodes if the writers can provide a coherent story.
I was initially worried that with 5 main guys, there wouldn't be enough ladies for me, but it turns out there are lots of them. And they all have different looks, different personalities. The one who's married to workman Ephraim (is she Rosario?) looked especially fine in her infidelity with Jose. I also liked the various sisters.
The young lady who plays the personal assistant (to Julieta?) was, I think the youngest of the three sisters on Pasion de Gavilanes (Sara). And the peasant girl Guadaloupe was a rich druglord's daughter on Munecas de la Mafia. Big change for her.
Yes Julieta is a perfectly okay fiance for Juan. But where's the passion?! Although Paula has her bad points, she's not nearly as bad as her Mom, and I think we'll grow to like her. The brothers are not all blameless either.
I definitely enjoyed the first show, and so far, I'm going stick with this novela.
Daniel Vidal has checked out the farmhouse, but hasn't found anything incriminating. He then sees the barn, and finds his way in. I'm thinking he's leaving fingerprints all over the place, and if he accuses Julian, what's to prevent the police from thinking this was Daniel's hideout the whole time? Well, maybe he has alibis, but maybe not.
Interesting parallel when both Rodrigo and Valeria had to stop themselves from taking cocaine. Rod resisted, calling the nurse to remove the drugs provided by resident crazy Baltasar, but Valeria wasn't as strong. (She really should have some hobbies. She was just sitting there, trying to stop herself. Next time, go the the gym or something).
Baltasar apparently saw the very first victim floating in the lake, and may have seen the murderer, but he's so loopy, Rod doesn't know if it was just a hallucination.
Speaking of a lake, a grisly hand was found in the water by a jogger, and it may belong to poor Mauricio.
And to top it all off, Piedad is moving farther from Rod, and closer to Julian. No, Piedad, No!!
Usually the Telemundo novelas don't get drawn out for long once they start advertising Ultimas Semanas unless of course if they've been extended.
Last episode felt like it was a filler not a lot of movement until the end of the novela.
Best moment for me was Pedro Pablo called out Benja on being a coward and not believing and standing by his so-called best friend Rodrigo. Big applause.
Piedad more mix signals blech!
The real Daniel Vidal must have been following Julian for quite awhile if he got disturbed by the news of Mauricio disappearing.
I don't know why, but when I start a novela I have a hard time giving it up- I'm the same way about books. But I couldn't make it through Victorinos and it was the first novela that I dropped since I began watching novelas in '82 (Ligia Elena- great novela). But now I am at the point where I am considering letting go of Aurora- it just sucks. And with so many other quality novelas, why waste my time? I just have to tell the writers that I blame them for a really lame story and the total lack of a strong protagonist. So there!
Herederos
OK, this is a really beautiful setting and I love the 5 brothers who all appear to be interesting and compelling in their own way. Mario, I love you, you hunk, and I don't care how difficult they say you are on set! P.S. Urban Anthropoligist, how did you get to see him in person- make it good! I think we will just like this novela more and more as it unfolds.
I didn't notice últimos capítulos. Good! I like the novela, but I think too much more time will ruin the tight plotting.
Yeah, I also suspect Mauricio's body has been found.
That Baltazar is completely nuts! I knew Rodrigo wasn't going to recaer and I was glad he called the nurse. This will also might be evidence of his sobriety.
I hope that "dumb as a box of rocks" fiscal gets the boot before this is over. If I remember correctly he told Mathilde (at Tatiana's house) that she didn't need to worry about Mauricio because the killer was locked up already.
I WISH Mathilde would tell Tatiana to take her partnership and stuff it the next time she threatens to throw her out. I'd like to see how well a business will do run by a 110% neurotic.
Blu, I agree! I loved Pedro Pablo chewing Benja out for turning his back on the friend who took him in when Tati threw him out. AND, as PP mentioned, went to bury that heart with him, putting himself at risk of being accused of being an accomplice.
Hombre, ITA, I can't stand it when Piedad turns on Rodrigo and gets closer to Julián. Why couldn't she just tell him she couldn't visit because of the reposo required to maintain her pregnancy. Besides that, doesn't the father of the baby deserve to know there's a risk to his child?
If there really are as much as 7 weeks to go, then Daniel Vidal is probably doomed. If he finds the hearts, Julián will off him.
Nellie: yes, Cimarro is hunky/hot. I just saw him for the first time a few months ago when I bought dvd of El Cuerpo del Deseo.
HdM: ITA w/you re the ladies. I noticed 'Latifa (Jade's cousin)' from El Clon. I always thought she was pretty.
I have my eyes too on 'Lucas' the youngest son.
At this point since he killed Mauricio i would say anyone is fair game now men and women. No children or children.
I don't know i have a feeling that the next novela Reina Del Sur starts next month so that's why i'm thinking it's not going to be that long of a wait but i could be wrong.
Yeah Benja is some friend he made his best friend a accomplice with helping him bury the heart now he wants to abandon him in at the lowest point in his life.Perhaps if he opens his mouth about the picture taken of him and Rodrigo the day they went to go back and get the heart that might help Rodrigo prove he's not the killer.
I loved him in El Cuerpo del Deseo and I have to say this: He looks better with long hair. The short cut he has in La Mujer de Mi Vida makes him look almost ordinary.
I'll be around for this novela although I have mixed feelings about Marlene Favela.
on the topic of hair, why do some/most Latin men on tns like that slick/wet/greasy look? yuck! but again, on Cimarro, it don't matter.
I recorded last night's estreno but have yet to watch it. If the plot catches me, I'll probably watch. I do like novelas with horses and ranches!
The only novela I've seen Marlene Favela in was Zorro, and I loved her in that. She was perfectly cast. From the promos, it looks like she's playing a villain in this one.
Urban A, you have seen an amazing number of novelas, and have lots of inside info on the productions. Great to have you here.
My first novela was the aptly named Madres Egoistas with Julietta Rossen in 1993. From episode 1 I was hooked. Just after it started I went on vacation in Spain and had to have my best friend record the show in my absence because it needed two tapes. When I got back Univision was airing the promos for Corazon Salvaje and I knew I was going to love that one.
As a point of interest, when I saw the "pilot" footage of Zorro at the Telemundo upfront the spring before, Paola Rey was Esmeralda. Considering that she comes up to Christian Meier's waist, casting Marlene Favela made a lot more sense (although I don't know if that was the reason).
When I met Christian Meier at the cocktail party following the presentation I told him he better be good in this role because Zorro was my childhood hero.
I wasn't disappointed.
Blu, I also hope it's only a few weeks. Of course, first we have ultimas semanas, then ultimas capitulos. Fantasma de Elena seemed to be in those final stages for quite some time (maybe it was just the novela itself that made it SEEM long :)
I also agree that now, anyone is fair game for being murdered. For example, I wouldn't be totally surprised if dumb Angel, who is so sure of himself, becomes a victim himself, although I have no idea how that would happen. Tatiana, too.
Hombre, I would not be reduced to tears if Julián knocked off both Angel, the fiscal, AND Tatiana.
Such great comments today. I also cheered when Pedro Pablo told Benja off for being a crappy friend to Rod after all Rod has done for him. And even not being a personal friend, PP has more faith in Rod's innocence. Good for him. I try to remember to appreciate the Pedro Pablo/Lola/Lucy situation as it provides comic relief for all the other things happening in this novela. But I do want PP to finally find a way to get rid of Lucy.
Hombre i can't tell which it was but you maybe onto something because the way it was written at the end it did seem long.
I agree with Novelera if Julian kills Angel and Tatiana i certainly won't be crying for either one and can we add Benja into that group as well.Yes Matilde should tell her where to shove the next time she threatens her with ending their partnership.
Vivi while i do love the comic relief the Lola/PP/Loca Lucia gives us i do want to see him figure out away to disentangle himself from her.
HEREDEROS- The second episode continues to set up the various story lines.
Paula kisses Juan and Jose sees them. He insists that Juan should tell Juliéta but Juan insists that Paula means nothing to him.
Paula, meanwhile, keeps arranging to be together with Juan and Juliéta. Juliéta seems to be unaware that Paula is any threat to her relationship with Juan.
Sylvia puts the moves on Miguel and Rosa, his wife is suspicious. Their daughter, Consuelo likes to live it up and her sister, Rosario (Latifa from Clon) follows along. Berta, the new overachiever maid (Sarita from PdG and Suplicios from Zorro) rats them out to their parents.
Pedro del Monte is in love with Juliéta but she rejects him and he drinks too much.
Beatrice Mardones tells Guadalupe (Genoveva on Doña Bárbara) that Jose del Monte is the father of her child, Simon. Guadalupe urges her to tell Jose and her husband, Efraín (Carmelito in DB) about this. Beatrice meets with Jose and tells him that he can't be the godfather of the child since he is actually the father.
Guadalupe's father (Roberto in Clon and many, many others) is brother to Modesto (Lorenzo on DB and many others) and there was some event in the past that destroyed their relationship.
That's all I can remember.
Thus far there are almost no positive females in this story:
I find females who use sex to manipulate men despicable. Right now I want to kick Paula into next week.
It's too soon to call it, but I don't know whether her mother is worse than she is.
Julieta's mother is a frivolous PITA.
Julieta herself is too passive.
Beatrice cheats on her husband and Jose is the father of her baby. Her husband is no comparison to Jose, but still...
If the otherwise light tone of this series is maintained, it will have to be a "Taming of the Shrew" story with Juan as Petruchio.
PDG was full of barroom fights; I guess that western stereotype is being maintained here.
AURORA
I'm really upset about Gustavo's final crossing over to the dark side.
After that "extra small" stunt in last night's episode if Cesar and Blanca don't get kicked out of that sex addicts group I'll be very surprised.
The revelation that Elisabeth hypnotised Aurora looked like an afterthought to explain her current behavior.
Natalia needs to be restrained and her brat along with her.
For some reason, I like the naughty gals (this happened on other novelas, where the male commenters often found ways to excuse the shocking sexy behavior of the badgirls). I especially thought Sofia (Paula's Mom) was funny in her manipulation and seduction of Miguel.
I feel sorry for Beatriz. At least she told Jose that Simon was his kid. But she still may have to tell Ephraim.
We don't know what the secret is that Modesto and Eleuterio (sp) were discussing. I think somehow Ele blames Modesto for the death of Eule's wife (Guadalupe's Mom).
I'm not liking the behavior of Jose or Gaspar. Pedro's okay - he sure did tease Sofia with that naked bath, and Lucas is a nice little brother.
Miguel's wife Rosa is a major pain in the a**. After rubbing that lotion onto her legs, she rebuffed Miguel. I can see why he's looking elsewhere.
Julieta's younger sisters, Consuelo (the wild one) and Rosario (the youngest) look as if they'll be interesting characters, but we don't know much about them yet.
The fight scene over the employees spying on Paula's skinny dip was funny, too.
Well, Daniel Vidal got into the barn, and was almost sick several times after he saw the hearts of the victims, and what appeared to be Mauricio's HEAD, in a jar! He took pictures with a little instamatic camera, and he loaded up a rifle, but I have a feeling Julian will outsmart him. Oh well.
Julian was quite daring in proposing to Piedad, with all those presents and memories in a little box, followed by a ring.
For now, she hasn't given him an answer, and she's also conflicted after receiving a late night call from Rodrigo. However, I think Piedad will stupidly agree to marry Julian (although they may not actually get to the wedding).
Pedro Pablo noticed what we all did - Lucy has a tummy as flat as a washboard. When he told her that proves she not pregnant, though, she blithely stated that all the girls in her family don't show for a while, and she really is pregnant. She even gave PP the address of her OB/GYN. Somehow, I still don't believe her.
Thank you for pointing out the positives from last night's episode Hombre. I was LOL at Pedro Pablo's face when he finally took a good look at Lucy (he's been trying hard NOT to look at her). "Senorita Lucy! No esta embarrazada!" It was such a polite/proper way to point out she's a lying witch. I wonder if she paid off an OBGYN? She seems pretty confident about PP coming along to her appointment.
Jean, that was Hombre de Misterios with the bathing info. Pedro's naked bath scene was amusing; could Sophia possibly have some cougar in her?
Oh, yes; skinnydipping in the pond is a definite novela cliche. I'm wondering where the river and the waterfall are.
Of course Ephrain will have to find out about the baby's parentage. It's a law of TNs that such information never remains a permanent secret.
We haven't seen a cell phone (or a regular one) yet. Let's see if that keeps on.
BTW, was there any comment on whether any of these guys share DNA? Juan, Jose, and Gaspar look like they do, but Pedro and Lucas don't look like they're related to them or each other. There has to be a reason for this.
I was cheering Pedro Pablo for saying that about Loca Lucia and yes i do believe she paid off a Ob/Gyn to say she was pregnant.I'm still not figuring her out but i hope Pedro pablo doesn't go with her she probably might have him injected with something so she can steal his sperm i wouldn't put it past her to do something like that.
Finally Luisa has come to her senses and the evidence is slowly proving that Rodrigo isn't the killer.Glad she admitted that he's innocent.
But of course the master manipulator comes to tell them that Daniel Vidal has surfaced. So he's going to try to pass the blame on his step father.
Let's hope Daniel is smart with those pictures he took and sends them to them police. He's not being smart confronting a serial killer though i don't care if he has a rifle either.
Piedad it doesn't even cross her mind that Julian was supposed to be so in love with Eva how quickly he's proposing to her and calls her the love of his life huh?
Matilde just go to the cops and tell Luisa what Mauricio suspected, or i should say who he strongly suspected.
I had to attend a meeting last night, but there was no way I was going to miss this show!
Boy that Lucy thinks on her feet, doesn't she? She either feels confident PP won't contact the OB/Gyn or she has one paid off. She is BS crazy though. I get the feeling she thinks she'll seduce PP while living under the same roof, and her pregnancy fantasy will come true. I can't stand her smug grin. She bought enough underwear to last for 20 years!
Great news that the doctor's report confirms the injection and the fact that it seems to have been done in spite of some resistance. And, very good point by Luisa that a doctor would not inject enough into himself to almost kill himself. I don't know if this is deliberate pandering to a female audience, but every male official in that police station is a blithering idiot.
Looks like Mathilde read our blog and called Tatiana on her threats about splitting up their partnership.
When Daniel Vidal went to the library, I was thinking somehow he would get his photos out of the digital camera and into a computer in order to send them somewhere. I don't even own a digital camera. I still have my old 35mm. So I don't know if he could do that at the library.
Novelera i was thinking the same about loca Lucia she's trying to get pregnant by Pedro Pablo that's why she came up with this crazy scheme to get inside his house. Now he has to be clever enough to get her the heck out of there and away from his family for good.
Was that a Library or a internet cafe? I don't think he can do that from a public library but i believe he could do it from a internet cafe.
I think I read somewhere that none of the Hermanos del Monte are related to each other but I'm not sure.
I don't think it was a digital camera. He was winding it each time after taking the picture. That means there's film inside, which has to be developed.
with everyone walking around in their winter garb, how can Pedro and Paula be bathing outside in the cold?
thus far, I am glued to this tn.
Thanks, Hombre, I'm sure you're right about the winding indicating he didn't use a digital camera. If he doesn't get that film developed fast, he's toast (or even if he does!). He broke the lock on the cellar where the evidence of Julián's crimes remains. So Julián, if he goes back there, will discover someone's been there.
I read all of the brothers are adoptive maybe later it might turn out a couple of them are his real sons.
I can't buy the idea that Lucas is this incompetent with horses after growing up on a ranch.
Somewhere out there is a village in need of an idiot, so Miguel better get on the truck. Only an idiot can live in a houseful of women and be this stupid about them. If Sofia takes him for whatever he has it's Social Darwinism at work.
They've shown a flat-screen TV so if there are no cell phones you will hear a major grito from this vicinity.
Paula and her madre are a destructive force and I hope Julieta gets in a few good scratches in tomorrow's catfight.
BTW, children have no guarantees to inheritances in the US. Paula has no greater claim as an hija natural than the adopted sons who worked the ranch and helped to build the fortune.
Urban Anthropologist wrote:
..somewhere a village needs an idiot so Miguel had better get on the truck...
LOL
It seems like Miguel, Rosa and Berta and maybe their daughters are going to be the comic relief in this novela hence Miguel's incredible stupidity. BTW, since Sofia sent Miguel a text message, we must have cell phones and in fact Miguel calls Sofia on one to set up their tryst.
I got the impression that Juan wasn't teaching Lucas basic riding but how to do more dressage-like things like making the horse back up.
I was impressed with how calm and reasonable Juan is being about the Paula situation. He is obviously attracted to her but his duty to his brothers and fiancee comes first. Paula is being portrayed as really witchy. I assume she is going to have a come down. I hope so.
I believe that the brothers' and Paula's inheritances come from their father's will, not the operation of any inheritance law.
Miguel may be stupid, but as an older guy, I shared his (temporary) post-sex glow. Sofia is a beautiful woman, and for now, Miguel has a little more bounce in his step.
We now know a little more about Modesto's secrets. Eulerio's (deceased?) wife had an affair with Don Emilio, the Del Monte father. This infuriated Gaspar, who feels this betrayed his beloved mother (Gaspar is more sensitive about his Mom than the others). Could Guadalupe (Gaspar's novia) actually be a daughter from that affair, and Euleterio not her father?
Consuelo and Rosario are apparently still in high school. It was funny to see Consuelo using Lucas as her novia, when she was really with "Johnnie", and Rosario longs for Lucas. But it didn't take Mom Rosa long to start counting her money if she can get one (more, including Julieta) of her daughters lined up with the rich boys.
Although Paula is "bad" and wants "revenge", she may not turn out that bad. In Fuego en La Sangre, the 3 brothers all initially wanted revenge, and went so far as to seduce the 3 sisters. They later repented and really fell in love with them. Isn't this the same thing, just with a woman doing the seducing?
Paula seems to think that being a DNA daughter gives her more inheritance rights than the adopted brothers. She won't stop until she has it all.
This isn't 18th-Century Europe and their father didn't have a title or a castle. Which she still wouldn't get due to being illegitimate.
$5 Million is nothing to spit at, but if she took it we wouldn't have a story. I just hope she suffers a few humilations like Luisana in Dona Barbara.
AURORA
Cesar finally got busted with Vanessa; no more than he deserves. I will pay close attention tonight to see if he still has that tattoo.
Daniel Vidal turns out to be not as dumb as I thought. The rifle was just for protection, and he didn't do anything stupid with it in his confrontation with Julian. He bluffed that he had already told an accomplice everything, so if something happened to Daniel, Julian was be in trouble. This wasn't true then, but it looks as if it will be now, as he's putting things in an envelope to a Mr. Sandberg, and doing other things to protect himself.
Still, since the police are so focused on him, I can see Julian making them think the barn and the whole setup belong to Daniel (it WAS Daniel's, but Julian apparently got all his properties when Daniel went to jail).
Tatiana is finally being a little more reasonable with Matilde. But just as Matilde was about to tell her whom Mauricio suspected (Julian), the phone rang, and ONCE MORE, she didn't get to tell.
Piedad wasn't very nice to Valeria, wouldn't say she'd visit Rod, and wouldn't even tell the cops that Rod couldn't be the killer, although she told them not to put words in her mouth. I do think Valeria's words had some effect on her, though.
Julian was a bit of a wreck at the clinic. He's having trouble holding himself together, but so far, he's (barely) succeeding.
Hombre de Misterios, in a word: No.
The Reyes brothers had a real motive with possible living offenders: Their sister's death didn't look like an accident. They had no real plan upon arrival and what they finally decided to do depended on their getting to know the Elizondo sisters. They also were basically good guys and the script allowed for us to know that. By the time they got to know the girls they knew that they weren't personally responsible.
Although it doesn't seem to have occurred to them, marrying the Elizondo sisters and living happily ever after would have been their greatest revenge on Gabriela and Fernando (in either version of the story).
All we know about Paula is that she says she's the natural daughter of Don Emilio. Her justifiable anger at being ignored by him does not entitle her to attempt to steal more than her rightful share of the estate from five guys who were unaware of her existence.
She's a succubus, just like her mother.
I love Matilde giving Tatiana a hard time last night brushing her off and telling her she didn't want to talk about Mauricio on company time. Making Tatiana grovel and plead for forgiveness was worth it. While i can understand Tatiana anger and rage at her betrayal she went too far by continue to threaten Matilde about breaking up their partnership. This is the only one who didn't betray her and stuck by her with what Benja did to her she doesn't have to be her whipping woman because Tatiana can't cope with the betrayal.
Matilde did give Tatiana some good advice she's not the first woman to be cheated on or is in pain from it get a divorce and move on.But Tatiana has a point it's not the same because Benja cheated on her with a cousin and her sister that brings the cheating to whole new other level of low down. It's too bad she didn't get to tell her about who Mauricio suspected as the killer. She's going to need a friend when she learns what happen to Mauricio tonight.
I agree that wasn't very smart of Daniel Vidal to confront Julian without leaving the evidence he had against him behind with someone else in case something happened to him.I expect Julian to comply with Daniel's demands he doesn't have a choice this time and he's not calling the shots or manipulating the situation like he always does. I expect Daniel to double cross him though get the money from Julian and still turn in the evidence he has against him.
Valeria was right to call out Piedad who i am so sick of her wishy washy attitude with Rodrigo. I hope when he gets out he gives her the cold shoulder.
Thank goodness Luisa now believes that Rodrigo is innocent.
Wow! Someone finally got out of Julián's death trap alive! It was good to see this serial killer running scared. And the real punch in the gut was Daniel telling him that his "adored" Piedad would be the first to find out about him.
Tati is definitely softening up and likely on the road to forgiving Benja.
I also found Piedad's conversation with Valeria annoying. Of course, what's going on is that she's defensive. When V tells her that Rodrigo is miserable because she hasn't been to see him, she gets huffy because she DOES still love him. And she feels guilty about not supporting him, but her head is telling her to move on to Julián.
HEREDEROS THROUGH TUESDAY
Jean, thanks for your useful parenthetical references to other roles the actors have had. Last night I watched Ep #1 and #2. It was driving me crazy. I created a chart, mostly not knowing the actor's names, but including roles I'd seen them do before. I was planning to look the ones up I recognized but could not quite put together with a prior novela. But I got sleepy. I'm especially grateful for your remembering Efraín (Carmelito in Doña Bárbara). That one was driving me nuts.
The one thing that I definitely noticed was how bad a rider Cimarro is. He looks like a sack of potatoes on a horse. Also, they played every scene where los hermanos are galloping across an open meadow in slo mo. They look better that way!
So far I'm liking the novela. The one character who's simply unbearable is Rosa. Ye Gods! Her bitchiness is world class. It's hard to believe Miguel would have stayed with her a year, let alone long enough to raise 3 daughters.
Blu, thanks for reminding us about the money Daniel is demanding. $2 Million Dollars for his silence! I know Julian's a successful doctor, but that still sounds like a lot to come up with.
I agree with all your comments about being happy Val told Piedad off, and Matilde told Tati off. Both women need to hear and learn some hard truths.
I actually don't want Tati to go back to Benja. That kind of betrayal takes a lifetime to regain trust, in my book. I do want her to forgive him (because it's good for her), allow him to see his kids, and move on. But how could she ever trust him enough again to put her heart in his hands? He slept with every woman that came his way, including her cousin and her only sister! No way.
Peidad was frustrating the heck out of me. Once again, logically I would understand if it takes her a long time to go back into a romantic relationship with Rod (if ever). I'm amazed she was able to start up a relationship with him when he came back to town, considering there was physical violence involved in their past relationship. Then he kept falling off the wagon and lying to her. So, it’s fine with me if she can't/doesn't want to be his girlfriend. My problem with her is that she's being a wimpy/crappy friend to him. She should be shouting from the rooftops that she does not believe Rod is capable of killing anyone. And if this bed rest she's supposed to be on does not allow her to visit him at the clinic, then she needs to tell him that- but tell him she believes in him. He should know about the bed rest thing anyway, since it's HIS child and she promised him not to shut him out. Instead, she is making things harder for him by making him think she doubts him and just doesn't care enough to visit.
Amen, Vivi! You stated perfectly my thoughts about Piedad, especially the part about not even telling him she's at risk of losing the baby.
Great point Vivi and well said about Piedad, she could have at least told him that when he called her the other night instead of brushing him off.I'm glad i'm not the only one feeling frustrated by her.
You hit the bullseye with Tatiana too i don't see her going back to Benja but she has to at least forgive him to give him access to his kids. That's was some great advice by Matilde divorce him and move on. She's not the first woman this has happen to and she definitely won't be the last. Like you said when Benja slept with her cousin and sister he went way below low down and dirty. No way do i see her trying to reconcile their marriage.
I see your points, Vivi and Blu, about Tatiana and Benja. You both have logic on your side.
But who ever said TNs were logical? I think they've been showing all along that Tati still loves her husband. Then they showed her wistfully watching the wedding video. The extent of her jealousy and rage to me means she can't just "let go".
Also she definitely heard Lola when she said that Benja was like a soul in hell realizing the mistake he'd made. And she made a point of visiting Lola and PP's place to see where he slept. She called Camila to see if he was there. She even unzipped the luggage. This is a woman who's still very much in love with her husband.
Of course, he may be a sex addict and may do it again. But I still think she'll take him back. And she'll manage to make it mostly Camila's fault!
I don't understand why Julian didn't make a beeline to his lair to get rid of the hearts and Mauricio's head as soon as Daniel said he had seen them. Either he is really slipping or maybe he plans to bring the police there and implicate Daniel.
Blu, the doctors apparently go way back and (as seen in the memory-lane photos that were gifted with the engagement ring) Julián & Piedad have a close relationship from those times. It was apparent that Piedad picked up on his feelings during the novela’s first week. Matilde was aware of his feelings for years—so it seems pretty tangible/plausible (that she’s the love of his life).
I love the “subtle” product placement advertising so far. I’m not sure which was more discreet: Eva & Luisa’s Yoplait, or Tatiana’s State Farm surfing…
Benja finally came around and supported Rod—yes! And another olé for Luisa’s turnaround. Just when we thought Tatiana was softening—she sees B & C, and turns her other cheek to us. I would agree with everyone about Piedad, but I’m going to reserve comment because I just know she’s joking. Wearing the ring and brushing off Rod looked serious, but I know she’s got to be kidding us. Ja, ja, ja… I’ll be watching Valeria closely, because she’s confusing me about what her role and motives are. Does anyone know what she’s up to? I couldn’t catch much without my personal translator. Did she throw Ms. Estevez under the bus, or was she being sincerely honest?
I had just about given up on Matilde helping the plot, but should I hold that thought? It looks like she solved the case… (Y ella puede llorar en mi hombro—very upsetting news to receive)
Erin, LOL! You keep holding out hope that Piedad is kidding us. I also can't believe she put on that ring. Vero is nice and all, but she needs to butt out. She doesn't know Rod, so how can she know that Julian is the best choice for Piedad and that she should forget about Rod. I don't think that Valeria maliciously threw Piedad under the bus. She was genuinely pissed that Piedad was abandoning Rod and didn't want him wasting any more tears on her when she is living with another man. Since Piedad refuses to even give a basic explantion about her "reposo", although her living with Julian goes beyond that, what is Valeria to think? But she really shouldn't have told Rod and I think she regrets telling him because of how much it hurt him. Now she's falling apart because Rod is falling apart. She took no pleasure in breaking his heart like that.
It looks like Daniel Vidal is a goner, only because he's given his lawyer all that info to send to the police, in case of his disappearance or demise. That's a signed death warrant.
Yes, Daniel is now a big suspect for the police, who confirmed with the drugstore owner that he bought a disposable (desechable) camera for cash. He plans to call his lawyer each day at the same time, and if a call is missed, some papers go to the police. And if anything happens to Daniel, open the envelope (this was a little redundant, but oh well).
Julian actually is selling stock to raise the $2 million, which is definitely going to look suspicious, but he could say he was threatened by the "real killer".
Angel said about a week ago that putting Rod in the treatment center was a bit of a ploy, that Rod would try to escape, and when confronted, would confess. Well, Rod DOES want to get out now (they had to sedate him twice), and Baltazar is also trying to get Rod to walk out, so this may play into Angel's hand. However, various other things seem to be helping prove Rod's innocence.
Tatiana was so mean going into Camila's new job and trying to get her fired again.
Little Emilio isn't too happy that his Dad is engaged to Piedad.
Even though Matilde now strongly suspects Julian, there's very little proof (although there is that picture of Fabiola). I thought Matilde's acting was exceptional last night. She really made me feel her despair about Mauricio, and she's really good at nervousness, such as when she picked up Emilio at Julian's.
She may look back at what she had and wished it all never happened.
In fact, I think he may want to get back with her more than she does.
But I hope she comes to her senses and allows him to see the children. She's hurting them and she's not gaining the satisfaction she wants from all this.
Ann-NYC
What we don't know for sure is what's in the envelope Daniel gave the lawyer. Daniel seems to think it will definitely prove that Julián is El Cazador. Just photos of the body parts isn't enough proof. He could have taken pictures of his own handiwork for all the police know. I can't think exactly what would prove that Julián did it since they both had access to that sótano (cellar). Or maybe Daniel just isn't smart enough to figure out that he could also be accused.
The last shot of Mathilde's face as she rather hysterically told Emilio to get his things was scary. It seems likely Julián will pick up on the fact that she suspects him of being El Cazador.
OK, I admit that Tati's scene at the restaurant took a bite out of my conviction that she and Benja will reconcile. But I still believe they will. This is just a TN writer's version of delayed gratification.
Erin i know about the relationship between the four friends. But it's clearly been stated by Piedad how much she was in love with Rodrigo n the past and now. Was she aware of Julian's feelings for her unless she's Stevie Wonder i would say yes but she wasn't sending these mixed and confusing signals like she has been sending lately.
Sorry Valeria was justified and calling her out with her absurd behavior. Now is not the time for her to abandon Rodrigo and shack up with Julian like she's doing, yeah i know it's not really shacking up but what do you think Rodrigo will be thinking when he hears about her new living arrangements. For someone who kept believing in his innocence no matter what and despite their past history which had violence in it. How she's acting now makes no sense to me nor for that matter her accepting and seriously thinking about marrying Julian. I for one would be very suspicious about someone who was supposedly was in love with Eva and now jumps back to saying he's in love with me. Yes i do know also how he loved her when he was married to Matilde and Piedad is his great love but still i would be suspicious anyway of his behavior.
Vivi i agree about Valeria WTF was she thinking telling him that my goodness that was beyond stupid for her to run back over and tell him the woman he loves and expectant mother of his child is now living with his enemy.
Ann i'm seeing the same thing there's just no way that Tatiana goes back to Benja. I think her following him is a trust issue and she wants to see if he has changed at all. Benja like i said cross a line that most sane women can never forgive it's just not the affairs he had. Some women can forgive that but it was whom he had the affairs with her sister and her cousin. He's broken the trust Tatiana used to have in him and really can't see how she ever get past that even in a novela. The one thing she does have to do is relent and let him see his kids. Far as i see their marriage is over. The only way i see her stop trying to get Camila fired from her jobs is if Camila moves to another town or state.
The real Daniel Vidal yeah i agree i think he's a goner, but at least he left the incriminating pictures with his lawyers to give to the police. Even though these cops are not the brightest we have seen on TV. I hope for sure he left the address where Julian's killing lair is and the cops have to remember they kept saying the killer has to be a doctor from the surgical cuts and the way the bodies are sewn back up after he takes out the heart. Daniel Vidal is not a Dr.
Matilde she may now be suspecting Julian but until she tells them cops what she knows about who Mauricio suspected was the killer i have no hope for her. She better be careful herself because Julian is near to attaining his prize and he's not going to allow the mother of his son to mess that up.
