La Verdad Oculta #107: Bertha gets Carlos's goodies

David must leave for the hotel office; but if Abelardo hears anything from this so-called lawyer who doesn't look like a lawyer, "Silverio Rodriguez," he is to alert David immediately. At the state penitentiary, when Leonardo surprises Marcos with Elsa's smuggling charge, he's sure she's been framed by Susana's murderers.

In a restaurant, Édgar phones to make a meeting with Carmelo after insisting to Valentín they must stick with him and squeeze as much as possible out of this deal. At Mario's, when Asunción gets down on himself for everyone providing better for Caramelo than he, Abelardo decides to tell him his own success story.

Upstairs, preoccupied Gabriela rushes in grasping a small, elongated pink box and hastily reads the instructions before disappearing into the powder room. Across the hall, Detective Chicles plays doctor with Secret Agent Caramelo's baby doll, who has swallowed the infamous troublesome letter, which crazy grownups are so strange about.

But Caramelo reminds Chicles the real letter is in the mattress. Back in Gabriela's room, she bounces on the bed reading a "pink" test result and excitedly grabs the phone to get Alejandra over there. Downstairs in the kitchen Abelardo relates to Asunción getting booted out of university and his marriage for violent drunkenness.

After he hit his wife, she simply packed up and left; and he was just about to reach bottom when luck struck and he secured at job at a Campo Real hotel. Back upstairs, Alejandra rushes in to to hear the joyful news that Gabriela is pregnant! In the kitchen, Abelardo recounts the chance he got to slowly work into hotel administration.

But when Abelardo earnestly swears the temptation to drink was always there, comical Asunción glances warily behind himself like Abelardo's temptation might be a tangible thing, a little gargoyle perched atop the china cabinet. Abelardo credits hard work and the help of Mario bringing him back among the living.

Across town at a pool hall, Édgar convinces Carmelo that the "three" of them are a team, whereupon Carmelo guesses a third guy must be Dante's "pet cat," Valentín. When Édgar points out Valentín knows lots of things to make them money, Carmelo agrees to split the spoils three ways evenly and asks how to find Adolfo.

Back in Mario's kitchen, when Asunción explains Caramelo's story and that he's always regretted being so ignorant and not able to do better by her, kind Abelardo offers to tutor him personally -- whereupon excited Asunción offers to loan Abelardo his toupé in gratitude.

"Lic. Rodríguez" appears at Adolfo's Sagittarius office and is just about to be thrown out when Adolfo hears him mention the infamous shoes and relents. Adolfo becomes intensely interested at the sight of one of the diamonds, but "Rodríguez" leaves him hanging with only a business card and promise to call before exiting.

In Gabriela's bedroom suite, she's worrying to Alejandra about her and the baby's legal status when suddenly David shouts up the stairs, and Gabriela rushes down to jump into his arms. She makes David sit down before revealing the amazing news that they're going to be parents.

As they swing around with happy Abelardo and Asunción looking on, "Mario" enters and gets into the tearful, joyful family embrace with his children. In Adolfo's penthouse, he's doing poorly and relieved to see friendly Bertha enter. She's left it up to him about resuming the wedding, but now he wants to make it happen.

At Mario's, the adults celebrate with champagne; and Gabriela promises to let Caramelo help with the baby when it comes. More seriously, Gabriela concerns "Mario" and the others by insisting on a DNA test with him to clear up her legal identity.

Later at the penthouse Adolfo and Bertha tie the knot before witnesses Dante and Jimena and a judge and his assistant. The happy couple look ecstatic there and later at their sumptuous intimate wedding dinner together, where Adolfo discusses the infamous contract with Bertha's uncle.

Bertha's tantalized to hear they could get double their money if Mario dies of a brain tumor, but disgusted to think horrible David and that waitress will get half if he does not. Her train of thought is following just where Adolfo is leading, so he springs on Bertha the news that the waitress is actually Mario's daughter.

Bertha almost chokes in disbelief; and doesn't she think they ought to do something about it, Adolfo asks while ripping apart a lobster claw. Back at Mario's, David and Abelardo get agitated Santiago to agree to put his Santiago personage into a sort of witness protection program to avoid Adolfo -- and remain "Mario" 24-7 for the time being until Adolfo's brought down.

Across the alley at competitive Juan José's, he tries to enlist Alejandra to keep up with the Genovés and get busy on the baby wagon. She can't go along with his Arab sheik plan for a houseful of kids, since that requires a houseful of wives -- and he can't tolerate that idea either, being a one-man woman now.

Abelardo calls from Mario's office to fill in Leonardo on their Santiago witness-protection plan, and he approves. Upstairs David tries to convince Gabriela to lay off the DNA test and believe Mario; but when she insists on straightening out her legal name, he counsels they have time and that completing Adolfo's contract is crucial now.

Next morning David continues and explains Adolfo knows her dad is really Santiago Guzmán, who will have to disappear for a while. At a gym, the three thugs plot how to turn Dante and Adolfo against each other, while extracting as much cash as possible from them and the Genovés -- by raising Garnica from the dead.

Valentín copied everything in Garnica's safe: the map -- everything. On the patio at Mario's, "Mario" and Abelardo are just telling Asunción about the diamond shoe caper over a game of dominoes, when Adolfo bursts through the front door, through the house and braces "Mario" with his knowledge of Santiago's identity.

Privately in his office, "Mario" relishes a huge belly laugh finally after throwing in Adolfo's face that someone played him a fool switching the fake cuff link ring on him. And Adolfo better hope Santiago does not talk to the police and testify against him! Thwarted Adolfo stalks out in a huff swearing to wipe that smile off "Mario's" face.

Back at the gym, it gets even better for the thugs when Valentín adds he possesses all the passwords for all zombie Garnica's email accounts, his bank account numbers -- and the PINs for all his credit and debit cards! Frosting on the top is that Édgar stole Garnica's credit card wallet before deep sixing him.

Carmelo is beginning to feel very friendly toward Valentín now, who lays out more proof they can use to insinuate that Garnica lives -- and retains the map copy, the diamond shoes; and Édgar piles on the infamous letter, too.

From a Babies 'R Us store, deliriously happy Gabriela phones Julieta about her pregnancy; but dampens the mood with news Adolfo's trying to unmask Santiago and that their dad will disappear for a while. Suddenly when there's a banging at the door, it's Adolfo and Julieta calls down for Leonardo to come up and rescue her.

Good evening. :-) Here are the You Tube links for Episode 107:

Jeri, another excellent title. This was stellar.

Your carefully crafted words add a rich, additional layer of dimension to actions without words: "Asunción glances warily behind himself like Abelardo's temptation might be a tangible thing, a little gargoyle perched atop the china cabinet" and words with devious undertones: "doesn't she think they ought to do something about it, Adolfo asks while ripping apart a lobster claw.". The stage may be set but you provide the passion behind the dialogue and actions.

A minor quibble. Would Gabi really have called Ale about the baby before calling Juli?

I loved Asunción offering to loan Abelardo his toupé in return for the tutoring sessions. At last it appears Asunción will finally learn to read and write.

Adolfo has been on the verge of decimation so many times. I have to give him credit, he smiles that evil lopsided grin and forges on. I don't want to think of what nefarious plan he has in mind for Gabi, but I'm not worried as we know it won't succeed.

It was so good to see Chicles. The lovable scamp is always a sight for sore eyes.

Best moment? The huge, enveloping bear hug between Gabi, David and "Mario". Sometimes, I have to pull myself back as the acting is so real and believable here. A lovely scene indeed.

Thanks again Jeri.

Diana

Thank you, Jeri! Zombie Garnica, LOL.

Please let me quote Guy Ecker from La mentira: Estamos embarazados! And there was a grouphug! Hurray!

It must've been hard for Fausto to react like Mario when the couple told him the good news.

Abe and Asunción: another bromance.

Adolfo asks while ripping apart a lobster claw

And he had the look of a real predator. Creepy. I hope the three goons (strange comradeship with slightly homoerotic gym overtone :)) will give him hard time.

Dear Genovéses, would it be so freaking hard to lock the front door and tell Ramona that Adolfo is persona non grata?

Fausto made Adolfo annoyed! Good job, man, very good job.

I missed Julieta. Why doesn't she live in the Genovés villa anymore, again?

Jeri-- I also loved that you deviated a bit from just the facts to give us such wonderful descriptive narration, like Limon's glance around the kitchen for Abelardo's demon. :) So glad Limon has convinced Limon to stop feeling sorry for himself and get off his butt and learn to read and write.

Baby on board! Yay! I loved the happy twirling and hug scene too. Diana, I don't think Adolfo's evil plans are for Gabi. They're for Mario. He's just using Gabi to egg on Bertha since he knows she hates her so much. But basically what he's trying to convince her to do is help him somehow bump off Mario before the contract is over so that: 1) All Mario's wealth passes to Adolfo, which will eventually ALL go to Bertha; and 2) Gabi doesn't get anything. That fact that she seems to be considering it, is why Bertha is dead to me. This goes beyond a love for money-- the reason why we say she and Carlos are so much alike and may belong together. Carlos has always been repulsed by the thought of murder. Not our Bertha. Sure, Adolfo isn't coming right out and saying it, but she knows what he means. I'm also not buying for one minute that she believes that it was Mario that killed Marta. She's not stupid, and she's going to keep playing this half innocent, half devious game with Adolfo.

The only explanation I can think of for Gabi calling Ale first is because she wasn't sure if she should be over the moon about it because of all the crap going down. Since they are already confiding in each other about what's going on with their men, Gabi really wanted her opinion about how to proceed given the situation they are all in. By the way-- I think this was the first time I saw an actual home pregnancy test used in a novela.

Poor Juli all alone in that apt. Since it would be improper for her to move in with Leo, I think she should move into the big house too!

They had yet another perfect opportunity to tell Gabi the whole truth, and even talked about it, and yet they decided to continue with another lie. Not cool. FaustiMario never intends to tell her, but if she keeps pushing this DNA thing...I thought it was funny that SHE doubts her paternity since her mother slept around so much. She thinks her mother could have lied to Mario, or perhaps didn't know who her daddy is. Maybe ALL her kids should have DNA tests if that's the case? :)

"So glad Abelardo has convinced Limon to get off his butt..."

Funniest moment- Caramelo asking Gabi if she can speed up the whole baby process since 8 months sounds like a long time. LOL! I love the way this huge, rambling family is coming togther. I imagine lots of fun family gatherings in the future once this nigtmare is over.

Happy Birthday, Aribeth! :-)

I'm not good at keeping up with birthdays, but I just happened to know that one.

Diana, thanks for your always great comments. :-) I was thinking Gabriela wanted someone to be with, and Alejandra is across the alley.

Aribeth, oh gawd, me too; I felt so sorry for Santiago having to be someone else at a time like that. But well, he is a consumate actor; so maybe he didn't mind too much.

Adolfo is so going to get it; we have less 13 eps to go, so these three goons should be the death blow.

I enjoyed Santiago's belly laugh very much; and I think Julieta lives in the apartment block, because of that big hunk Leonardo a couple floors down.

Jeri, there you go again with the fabulous sentences. I'll add this one to Diana's,  "If Abelardo hears anything from this so-called lawyer who doesn't look like a lawyer". He did have crook stamped all over him didn't he? Thanks Jeri!

Diana, I loved the big group hug as well. I felt that  FaustoMario was really breaking down and David joyously took control, piled in and saved the day. I think that we have been made to wait for the pregnancy, therefore it is more exciting.

Boy, the DNA proof that Gabi wants is problematic. How will they handle that and keep the big lie going?

I'm chiming in on the pregnancy call, I'd think that Gabi would tell David first, minor blimp in a very happy occasion though.

Aribeth's, I LOVED "La Mentira" did you?  It might have been the best ever.   The remake sounds disappointing.  Thanks for your enthusiastic recap of yesterday.

Happy birthday Aribeth!

Vivi, thanks for the explanation. I guess I am nervous that Adolfo would hurt Gabi to get to Mario/Fausto. I put nothing past him!

Sandy, of course you are right: Gabi should have called David before anyone. It was so nice to see his joyous reaction, wasn't it?

Jeri, only 13 episodes left! Say it ain't so! Ack.

Diana

Also, I know the earlier shows are being prempted tonight but LVO is showing tonight as usual (according to TV guide online).

Diana

Vivi, I'll believe Bertha is ok with murder when I see it; on the contrary, I think she is stupid -- or at least naive and immature.

Adolfo was talking about Mario dying of a brain tumor; I hope she's not stupid enough to hurry it along. But she might be.

Sandy, I cannot take credit for the lawyer assessment, LOL: I was reporting what Abelardo told David.

About the DNA, as I was thinking yesterday, sometimes they can get DNA from a burned corpse. I watch a lot of CI shows, LOL.

But only a couple people even know where Mario's body is. And Santiago will have to tell Gabriela, or she will have trouble proving her identity and inheritance.

Also as I was thinking yesterday, Mario had a sister whose body could be exhumed -- and nieces Alejandra and Bertha.

Oh, yeah -- I wonder if it will make any difference to Bertha that the waitress is her cousin.

Jeri, "Vivi, I'll believe Bertha is ok with murder when I see it; on the contrary, I think she is stupid -- or at least naive and immature." I hope you're right, because if you aren't, Bertha is a cold blooded, heartless and stupendously selfish witch. She saw Adolfo man-handling Yolanda and still sat down on his bed in her bright yellow robe and sang like a canary ratting out Mario, the uncle who took her in.....Wow! She knew the conversation was about money and getting her chunk of change bigger at the expense of her family.

I also hope you're right Jeri. But I am not buying this wide eyed inocent act that she puts on with Adolfo, and others when it suits her. Remember hwo shrewed she was at the beginning of this novela when she was working as a solo agent and then with Roberto. That girl knows what's up. She's not stupid.

Sandy, IIRC all that happened before Bertha came in. Not saying it changed anything, but Bertha came in because she heard something. They didn't do anything after she entered.

Vivi, Bertha's no wide-eyed innocent. She's like a lot of young people: knowing just enough to be dangerous. Immature ≠ innocent. But it is a consideration that they're immature.

P.S. If it turns out Bertha is involved in a conspiracy to murder, that will dovetail Carlos's rap sheet nicely, too.

Jeri, as I remember it, Bertha heard loud voices and worriedly bounded into Adolfo's bedroom. He and Yolanda were very obviously in a big fight. Bertha knows Adolfo, he has roughed her up as well. Yolanda was clearly upset, something big and bad was happening. I have kept your thoughts on Bertha in my mind hoping like you that her interest in Adolfo is a ruse to help Carlos, but it is getting harder to believe this, especially when Carlos seemed so interested in Mina the other day! A....Jeri I want to be your friend, you are a loyal person, B....It is so good to be watching a novela in which you have to keep guessing!!!!

Sandy, I think Bertha did not see any violence, and Yolanda purposely didn't let on; that was good enough for Bertha. She was probably asleep and the noise just woke her up.

I don't think Bertha's consciously aware of a ruse to keep the money for Carlos: rather it's where I think the story would be going -- what they have planned for her.

It's just a guess from clues they drop; I haven't seen anything. I hate spoilers. It's easier to guess in this show, since it's well written.

Poorly written shows make illogical moves so that you never know and aren't satisfied later. This show is pretty logical and satisfying.

She did say she doesn't want anybody else to get Carlos's inheritance, but also that they can't live on love.

Bertha does not enjoy Adolfo kissing her; I noticed that last night. She likes him alright, but she just wants the cash. He should be her father in law and have that kind of relationship.

Mina told Alejandra that she's just hoping to break her long drought, not that she expects anything to happen. I think that's a clue; and she and Carlos don't have any interesting issues.

In a bad show, they might pair them up; but I just didn't think so. But they haven't been absolutely perfect in writing this show either.

It has been great, though; we have a terrific group that I'm very grateful for. My husband says the same thing: he says it works to his advantage that I'm loyal to the death, LOL. Be sure and get my email from the profile here and keep touch; I'm not really seeing any telenovelas I want to watch right now.

Jeri, you're right about the little hints, there have been several. I guess some of us think that Bertha is fooling herself, she is incapable of a selfless or even generous act. It is one thing to get Adolfo's dinero, but another thing to scheme to get Mario's. Oh well, yes we have a well written novela. On your side of the discussion, it is hard to think that Bertha would be out cold from her family in the end, she is one of the
<<<<<>>>>>

Let the ending games (13 episodes) begin!!!!

<<<<<>>>>>

That word was erased from my last comment and I can't even blame cell phone, I'm on a computer!

When you use <<<>>> it erases the word in the middle, the word is Genoves!

Well, see, that's just it: it doesn't require any altruism on Bertha's part.

Loving Carlos isn't altruistic; getting his inheritance isn't altruistic; sharing it with him isn't either, if what she wants it to be together with him.

I just hope he's not so angry with her that they can't reconcile in 13 eps. But Aribeth pointed out, Carlos ain't no angel. They're suited.

I don't know Jeri. Premeditated murder is considered worse than after the fact conspiracy. If she knows Adolfo is planning to kill her uncle, and she does nothing to stop it, then her balance sheet next to Carlos' will not be even in my eyes.

I also don't need to see Mina and Carlos end up happily ever after. I loved Mina's modern attitude. It's just dating afterall. Why not, with such a cute guy? And it could be good for Carlos to hang out with a drama free woman and just be "normal" for a while. Doesn't have to end in marriage, but could be good for both of them.

Since I don't think it likely that the writers will kill her off, but that it's almost a certainty that they will kill Adolfo, it's a sure thing that Bertha will get his money now that they are married. I think this is enough of a happy ending for her. She can be alone. With all her money. But without her family or Carlos. I don't think she deserves more than that.

Jeri, I caught your recap before watching the show and was so excited to see it after reading your engaging words. Again there was so much conversation, especially among our "homoerotic gym" mates. LOL, Aribeth. So, thanks again for your help.

The front door is glass so it's amazing that Adolfo actually makes it through into the house. Security doesn't seem to be a priority in the Genoves household.

I have been enjoying all the comments from the great minds on this recap site. You are all talented writers. It's been fun to share such an exciting novela. Thirteen to go.

GinCA

Well, she hasn't done anything yet; let's wait and see. It's going to come to light at some point that Mario's already dead and Gabriela is the heir. Bertha may not have to get involved.

I don't think they would just let Carlos hang out there when there's a chance for all that melodrama between him and Bertha. It makes for interesting anticipation.

Oops that was Re: Vivi

Jeri, Awesome, fabulous,
beautifully written recap!
the photo of the wedding elegant.

Re - the goons splitting the money evenly - good luck with that

Re - the family hug; I think David joined in because of happiness but
also to prevent Fausto from collapsing

Betha kissed Adolfo for the first
time on lips (to my recollection);
she could do more if the job required it - some relationships have down sides.... especially with those "tantalizing" prospects in mind. Luckily for her, Adolfo's health may not permit
strenuous activity.

EY appears very young for his age.

Sandy, how did you get into novelas? Are you studying Spanish? Are you Hispanic? Did you think La Mentira was better than LVO?

That dress looked much better on Gabi than many of the others.

Carlos' family keeps growing; now he has a beautiful and wicked Stepmother... something he joked about a while back.

Feliz cumpleanos Aribeth!!!!!!

Thanks! :))
I'm not good at keeping up with birthdays, but I just happened to know that one.
From Facebook, I guess. :) I officially lived longer than the other Marta who was strangled at 27.

As for the Bertha mystery: She's a stupid, immature, selfish and a spoiled brat, but I secretly hope she'll distance herself from Adolfo's schemings somehow. Don't ask me how, I'm just in a big, blurry denial. I like her and Carlos together.
Though Mina and Carlos rock, too, those actors are extremely cute.

Sandy:
I like the cast of La mentira, and enjoyed the storyline of Vero and Demetrio, but I fastforwarded the scenes of the side characters.

As for the next telenovela.
5 shows are running now in Mexico:

5 pm: Rafaela (Para volver a amar ended 2 weeks ago)
6 pm: Teresa (it'll end next week, Ni contigo, ni sin ti will be the next)
7 pm: Cuando me enamoro (-> La fuerza del destino in March)
8 pm: Una familia con suerte (Llena de amor ended last week)
9 pm: Triunfo del amor (-> a Larrosa show in June/July)

On Univision there are 3 timeslots that always get recaps: 7 pm, 8 pm, 9 pm.
7 pm: Llena de amor (???)
8 pm: Eva Luna (72 episodes)
9 pm: TDA (33 episodes)

Llena had 206 episodes. -> it'll end in May or June
TDA will have at least 140-150 episodes. -> 6 months at least
I don't know much about Eva Luna, some said it'll end in March, others said it'll be extended.

Para volver a amar, Teresa and Cuando me enamoro will surely be broadcasted in the USA. PVAA most likely will get midnight, and I guess Teresa and CME will end up at 8 and 7 pm.

Para volver a amar (145 episodes): dark, realistic, well written, with a great cast.

Teresa (151 episodes): aka Rubí 2. It's about an ambitious young woman who likes manipulate people and chooses money over love. Hopefully it'll have a better ending than Rubí. In the 1984 version Salma Hayek played Teresa. Some viewers say it's boring but the acting is very good - because it's directed by Mónica Miguel, aka Estrada's favourite director (Alondra, EPDA, El manantial, Amor real, Alborada, Pasion, Sortilegio) who taught stars like Levy, Colunga, Zepeda and Rullí how to act.

Cuando me enamoro (180 episodes): it's the newest version of La mentira made by the producer of En nombre del amor. Not a remake because the story is totally rewritten. It's very long and people say it became a circo but the cast is great, again.

I'm curious about these shows: PVAA has interesting storylines, Ale Barros and René Strickler; Teresa has Angelique Boyer and Margarita Magana (Bertha); CME has a beautiful wineyard, Silvia Navarro, Juan Soler and René Casados.

If PVAA ends up at midnight, then I'm afraid it'll be dead. Gancho and Corazón salvaje already had loyal fanbases when they were exiled to that timeslot. It's a miracle that we managed to recap and comment LVO since it didn't have either a fanbase or good promos at the beginning. I'll download and watch PVAA but I won't recap it twice a week.

So we could watch the next 8 pm telenovela together if Eva Luna ends in March or April. Most likely Teresa will be the next. It'd be a pleasure to be part of fantastic, intelligent and passionate groups like Club Salvaje and Club Verdad again.

Floridia, I’m a southern girl of English and Danish parentage. I took an interest in language as a small child hearing my Danish grandparents speak. I have a diploma (not degree) in nursing and a BA in Spanish. In the 1960’s nursing and teaching were the most viable options and I had both covered. Let me guess...Boston area, five children, a set of twins in the family.....are you of Irish extraction?

It is hard to compare La Mentira with LVO. Artistically, LVO is better, but La Mentira was very, very, very romantic. Typical novela fare, a letter * V * broach found near a young male suicide victim implicates the wrong cousin, Veronica. Naturally, the dead man’s handsome half-brother (Guy Ecker) drives to Mexico City for the purpose of discovery and revenge, IN HIS WHITE JAGUAR......then fun begins. Oh yes, the brother Demetrio, Guy Ecker, owns a tequila hacienda...good stuff! Wiki calls it one of the best series of all times! I just couldn’t say which is better!!!!!

Aribeth, ¡feliz cumpleaños!

Gracias, Sandy!

La mentira is nice and decent, but wiki is edited by the most loyal fans. :) I think CS93 and LM had the biggest fanbases.

My top favourites are:
- Terra nostra (1999, Thiago Lacerda, Ana Paola Arósio): a Brazilian costume telenovela
- Kachorra (2002, Natalia Oreiro, Pablo Rago): a silly, funny telenovela based on Fran Dresher's "The Nanny"
- La otra (2002, Yadhira Carrillo, Juan Soler): one of Ernesto Alonso's masterpieces
- El manantial (2001, Adela Noriega, Mauricio Islas): imho Estrada's best telenovela
- Yo compro esa mujer (1990, Eduardo Yanez, Leticia Calderón): another Alonso classic, and the second telenovela I saw. I was 9, IRRC.

Kachorra isn't a big deal artistically, but the other four are fantastic.

Aribeth: Thank you for all of the updates! You always provide the most interesting information.

I love your suggestion of our group watching the next 8:00 telenova, especially if it's Teresa (love Angelique Boyer and Margarita Magana).

I can't tell you how much this blog has meant to me. I started watching when CS went to midnight last April and have been watching ever since. Although sleep deprived, the recaps and comments have been worth every tired moment. LVO is not the only treasure - the camraderie here is what's truly of value.

It would not have happened without you, Jeri and Vivi. Gracias!

Diana

Aribeth, I didn't watch the EY CS because I was such a fan of the CS93 and Eduardo Paloma, I knew I would make comparisons.

Jeri, thanks for the recap and the links. I inadvertently fell asleep and missed the first 10 min. Missed the "rabbit" test.

Gabi and Ale are becoming best buds, both married and "settling down" while Juli is in a different place in her life. But it was odd after how close they had been that if she had to tell anyone before she told David, it should have been Juli. Oh, well, maybe it's because this part of the script was written by men, haha.

So glad Leo was still home when Juli called him. On the other hand, Adolfo would have found Santiago gone and probably wouldn't have harmed Juli other than to threaten to put the dad in jail, haha.

I can't think of anything less intimate for a wedding dinner than having to take a whole lobster apart. And WTH, no bib, haha.

I don't think Abelardo is going to have time to teach Limon how to read. There's just too much going on right now. Limon remains illiterate (but lovable), haha.

Carlos and Mina are "just dating." I don't see any chemistry between them, no love at first sight, no passion. Maybe Mina is what he needs right now instead of having to talk to himself or the shrink, he can talk to Mina about changing, haha.

Gin--I agree that that glass door no sirve para nada. Ramona should have checked before opening. Well, we wouldn't have had that lovely confrontation in the garden with the fellows playing dominoes, haha.

Well, enough laughs for awhile. I'm sincerely worried about Mario and the DNA and scheming Adolfo whispering sweet $$$ signs in Bertha's ear.
Newbie-O-K

Thanks for the recap Jeri. I'll be back later after I read the comments.

Airbeth--thanks for ALL the info on the new telenovelas and the stars of the major roles.

I'm all set for Para Volver a Amar. It's been advertised in the mid-Atlantic for the midnight spot.

I happened to be switching channels and landed on ABC's Off the Map. I had to kind of chuckle because it looked a little like a Spanish telenovela mostly in English with a few non-critical Spanish phrases thrown in.

It's a medical show set somewhere in a South American jungle, created by the same folks that bring you Gray's Anatomy. It started January 12, so there haven't been that many episodes. Any one else tuned into it?
Newbie-OK

Thank you Jeri! Another fantastic job!

I too am puzzled as to why Gabi told Ale about the baby first and not David or Juli. Seemed very odd to me.

"The front door is glass so it's amazing that Adolfo actually makes it through into the house.

That has been the one thing that drives me crazy about this TN. **No one** ever seems to care about security. Juli is the only person who has asked "who's there" and then NOT opened the door. I actually cheered!

Regarding Bertha: I am going to go out on a limb and say Bertha and Carlos will NOT end up together. I'm just guessing of course, but here's why I believe this: Bertha is AMORAL. amoral: having no moral standards, restraints, or principles; unaware of or indifferent to questions of right or wrong: a completely amoral person.

From the very start of this TN Bertha has been selling people out - especially members of her own family - for money or possessions. It's not that she doesn't know right from wrong, she doesn't care. Carlos is very moral. He has always been haunted by the maid's death. He knows it was wrong to cover it up and send JJ to jail. Carlos is ambitious and works hard. Bertha is lazy, she wants everything handed to her. Carlos was honest in his work. He did not steal from the hotel like his father has. He is loyal to his family, even to those who don't deserve it like Adolfo. Bertha has never shown loyalty to anyone. Yes, there was an attraction between Bertha and Carlos, but as to a lasting relationship, I've never seen it. There is too much difference in the very essence of their characters. It doesn't work for me.

"Since I don't think it likely that the writers will kill her off, but that it's almost a certainty that they will kill Adolfo..."

Vivi, I'm going to go a little further and guess one more thing. Did you see the look Adolfo gave Bertha in her tight jeans? I think in the very near future Adolfo is going to demand his conjugal rights and Bertha is in for a very violent awakening. If anyone kills Adolfo it will be Bertha after he rapes her.

I'm working on the next recap, and gosh, I'm in LOVE with Ulises.

Loved the recap Jeri. So Gabi is pregnant and she didn't hesitate to tell David about it. Usually, we have to wait weeks or even months before the protagonist tells the galan that she's having his baby. If not that, she has the baby and he doesn't know it until the last weeks of the show anyway I digress LOL. I loved the group hug between Gabi, Fausto/Mario, and David before she dampened the mood by asking for a DNA test. How will they get out of that bind?

Loved Fausto wiping the smug grin off of Adolfo's face when he told him of the switched rings.

So the unholy threesome are going to resurrect Garnica from the grave for a little fun. We'll see if they are successful turning Adolfo and Dante against each other.

I hope Leo comes to Susana's rescue. Adolfo looked like he was going to kick the door down.

Also wanted to wish a very Happy Birthday to you Aribeth. I hope it was a good one.

xlntperuvian--did you see my questions to you from a couple of nights ago?.

Love your analysis of Bertha. If we can see into the future, we have a Yolanda in training...or Yolanda 2.0.
Newbie-OK

Aribeth; Happy Birthday; Awesome;
You are a baby! Thanks for sharing your rich data base of telenovela fact and fantasies.

Xlnt; I'm with you all the way re
Bertha; also part of the proposal discussion was "whatever happens happens;" so you are right, those
conjugal rights may come into play very soon;

Newbie, while there are superficial similarities,
Yolanda and Bertha's arrangements with Adolfo are quite different.
I don't think that she can be rightly classified as Yolando 2.0.
It seems Adolfo rescued Yolanda from a horrible fate, and she has been grateful to him while gradually realizing what a monster he is. Yolanda is good at heart and raised Carlos selflessly.
Bertha is not good at heart.
I fear for Yolanda if Adolfo figures out she switched the rings.

Sandy, How perceptive you are!
I'll reply tomorrow.

Floridia--Got mixed up in my haste to post. It was Vivi's comparison at 11:34 I was referring to--Bertha will end up with all the money, but alone with no family, no Carlos. I didn't mean a carbon copy, just the idea that all she ends up with derives from Adolfo.

I still agree with xlntperuvian's descriptions of Bertha's character.
Newbie-OK

Newbie, Gotcha, I understand
and agree.

Thank you, ladies! :)
