Triunfo del Amor #33 2/16/11 A Triumph of Frustration

As Viewerville settles in for tonight's episode, Vic is arriving home and asking Max where Os is. She has to talk to him. She's very agitated. She begins "It's something that happened years ago. It's complicated." Fer bounds in from upstairs with a drawing. She is trying hard to please her mommy.

Mommy doesn't have time and dismisses her. Max takes her to task for being so mean to Fer. The phone rings and our pal Burnie is on the other line. She needs to talk to Osvaldo. She knows things about Victoria he needs to know. Victoria has been deceiving people for years. She goes on, but Fausto hangs up the phone mid-threat.

Burnie is burning with anger. How dare Fausto stop her as she performs her dastardly deeds. Fuasto eerily explains that he understands her hatred, but that her revenge needs to be done little by  little. Like a poison. Burnie is ever so grateful and Fausto continues. He tells her that Victoria will get hers and that as long as he and Burnie stick together nothing will be able to save Vic.

Back at Casa Sandisfuncional, Vic wants to know who was on the phone and what they wanted. Max doesn't know, but whoever it was said that Vic wasn't what she seems. They seemed to know about us, too. Victoria wants to know if it was a man or a woman. When she hears it's a woman, the thought bubbles: Bernarda! She's declared war on me and won't stop until she destroys me.

Meanwhile, in the Barrio....
Nati has left a note for María about going to Bombero Festivities with JuanJo since his novio is a ho and is gettin' it on with Osvaldo (or something similar, maybe that's not exactly what it said. I took some recapper license.) María tears up the paper (and probably wishes it was LindaHo's face.) The phone rings. It's Max. He wants to come see her. She'll be waiting for him.

Max is worried about Mom. He mumbles something. Vic says she has some suspicions but she needs to confirm them. (So I assume his question is about the phone call.) Vic says after she talks/confesses to Os, she'll let Max know what's going on. (Don't hold your breath Max.) Max leaves and Vic calls Burnie and wants to know what she wants from her. Burnie tells her to come to the house and she will tell her. ("Will you come into my parlor?" said the spider to the fly.)

Milagros and the Merry Elves (and JP) FF>>

Victoria has arrived at Burnie's. All Burnie wants is for Vic to lie and say the baby was not JP's. Victoria says that will not happen. Burnie tells Vic she doesn't know what hell awaits her. Victoria says no hell is worse than what's she's been living and that everyone will pay for what happened.

Desfile de Bomberos and a bad band FF>>

Fútbool with chipmunk speed  aciton FF>> ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡GOOOOOOLLLL para M'cito! GOOOOOOOOOOLLLLL!!!!!

Oscar is at the Casa de Modos in mild flip out mode. "Ya'll KNEW???! !!! Y'all knew Os was a lying cheating, skankho-schtupping bastard and you didn't say anyting???!! (again, I may have taken some recapper liberties.)

PipToni responds that they sort of found out accidentally, too and decided not to say anything so Vic wouldn't  suffer and the family wouldn't fall apart.

Oscar says he's gonna confront Os. (The way things have been going in this TN, that could take another month or two.)

Jimmie, MamaRox and Vic are in the office doing air kissies. Vic mentions the Nair facial and MamaRox tells her not to worry. The three sit. Jimmie and MamaRox would rather be comfy when they start shoveling mierda about Maria. She's a gold-digger. She's deceiving Max. Jimmie turns on some tears so Vic will think she's really upset and not just faking. MamaRox doesn't want to see Max marry someone beneath him (Well, I don't want to see him marry someone beneath Gui. She may have diseases and stuff. Ew.) Vic vows to do everything possible to get Max to return to Jimmie.

Maria sees Max driving up. Their theme song begins. She leaves the door ajar and decides to fake being asleep. Max sneaks in and tries to wake her. She fakes sleep really well. I think Max starts to get a little worried. She finally "wakes up." They kiss and mumble into each others mouths. I gather it's mushy stuff. Something about skin and her head (mente.) They'll always be together. After the commercial break, Maria notices Max is preoccupied. He's worried and there is just weird stuff going on at home.

Street fair. Milagros and the Merry Elves. Talk of traditional Mexican food. There's some Milagros/Napo banter FF>>

In Maria's apartment, Max is telling Maria about the events that happened earlier. He says his mom was about to tell him something about things that happened years ago. Then Fer interrupted, then the phone rang. Maria tries to explain it away. Max said this person knew us really well.

Cut to Burnie contemplating Vic's fall.

Max is all confused and wanted to talk to Maria and get her take on things. She reminds him that she didn't have parents, but that his parents love each other and love conquers all blah blah.

The doorbell is ringing at Casa Diablo and Burnie asks Eva to tell whoever it is she isn't home. It's JP and Eva can't get rid of him. Burnie channels her Jewish mother and says not only does he shame me with his actions, he's dedicating himself to offending her. (And he never calls.) JP insists he never meant to hurt her and wants her forgiveness. Burnie asks him to forget all this Vic/Hija business and dedicate himself to praying for her soul. JP asks the million dollar question "what is it you have done to fear hell soooo much?"

Maria is asking Max if she'll come with her to visit Burnie.

At the bombero festivities JuanJo and Nati are busting balloons. He wins a prize and gives it to Nati. "Nati!" I yell at the TV "don't forget Fabian!Fabiaaaan."

Eva and Fausto listen at the door as Burnie rails against Victoria. She wishes she were dead so her soul could rest in peace. JP says she will find no peace until she lets go of the hate. Burnie talks about him having a daughter and being a priest. JP reminds her he was a seminarian when it happened. Not a priest. He hadn't taken his vows. Besides, he isn't running around saying he's looking for HIS daughter, rather the daughter of Victoria. Burnie is still pissed. JP leaves a rosary with her (I may have missed a few things.) Eva and Fausto slink away and Burnie says "You've betrayed me!"

Milagros etc. with BB guns FF>>

Fer is in her room. Victoria enters. Fer sort of pouts and says she always seems to interrupt. She tears up her little drawing (aw. I kinda feel bad for the kid.) Vic asks for forgiveness. Fer says her feelings are really hurt. Vic reminds Fer about the time she told her that she made a mistake when she was young. "Well, I hurt a lot of people and I've caused a lot of suffering. One day I'll tell you all about it, but not now." (And not for a long while is my guess.) Fer says sometimes she doesn't understand her mother, but she loves her.

Victoria starts with the heaving sobs. *eye rolls* Oh for pity's sake. Get a hold of yourself.

Fer says Vic can tell her when she's ready. She'll never condemn her. (That's great Fer, but we've all been waiting for quite a while for Vic to finally tell someone and you aren't helping our case.)

Mi hijas and hugs all around.

Nati talks to Señora Preggers at the fair. Señora Preggers has noticed Nati likes JuanJo. Nati explains JuanJo has a girlfriend and it's complicated. Nait gives Preggers the little prize JuanJo have her. Preggers asks Nati to be the madrina (godmother) of the baby. Seemed a bit sudden to me, but who am I to judge? May I remind Nati to think about JuanJo in a towel? Surely that will smack some sense into her.

Maria Desinformada is visiting Burnie who is playing the pity card. (Has anyone noticed that Burnie strokes her forehead...a lot...) Burnie whines about JP and being alone. But Maria assures her she will never abandon her. Boy she's dumb.

Vic is in her bedroom crying and Os the Rat Bastard comes in with the Mexican version of Moonlight and Magnolias. Then he notices she's crying. Victoria talks about all their problems. She want's to know what happened. Os says he wants to tell her something. She shushes him. They kind of dance a little and she talks about when they first met. The early days. Yada Yada. Meanwhile, Luis Miguel keeps telling us to "Oye la confesión." Well, wouldn't we just love to? Now that song is just mocking us all....They start smooching and he carries her to the bed and still there is no confession. From either of them.

Back at Burnie's, María is saying how nice it is they met and that such wonderful affection grew between them. Yes, Burnie says. Such a familial feeling. María asks if she lives alone. Burnie says just her and her demon minions since JP has pretty much abandoned her. "No other childern or grandchildren?" Maria asks. "No" sighs Burnie, "God gave me the one child who is dedicated to serve Him. I don't need anyone ." Max enters. Introductions are made and they recognize each other. Staring contest. Max says he knows Burnie. Maria thinks not. "Oh no," says Max. "We know each other. My mother and she were arguing in her office once." Burnie spits "Yup. You're Victoria's stepson."

Cue the Kayak.

Loved your recap, Sara. Filled with both snark and valuable information. Are we at one of those points where everyone is dancing around each other, hiding the truths they need to reveal, and nothing is happening? And the ruffles on Burnie's neckline keep growing higher and higher.

Marvelous job! And so speedy, too! So many great lines and phrases, but among my faves --

"MamaRox doesn't want to see Max marry someone beneath him (Well, I don't want to see him marry someone beneath Gui. She may have diseases and stuff. Ew.)"

"Señora Preggers"

and your reminder to Nathy to think about JuanJo in a towel.

I loved the running theme of the foiled confession. Really great stuff here, amiga! Te felicito!

Sara love your recap i'm still laughing from it.

I think this is the first role i ever like Daniela Romo playing in a novela. She is killing me with this portrayal of Burnie.I was LOL after Fausto hung the phone up for her during her scheme of exposing Victoria's past. The way he fed that B.S. to her and she bought it all was too funny. It was like she found her soul mate at last.

When Luis Miguel sings like that who cares if it's mocking us that man has a beautiful voice love it.

really Maria D. a good Catholic girl knows better than to leave her front door unlock and pretend to be sleeping. What would have happen if that was JJ that showed up instead.Ack!

So Jimena's mother thinks Maria D. is beneath Max? Has she taken a good look at her own daughter lately? I get the feeling that Jimena has been underneath a lot of men and not only just Gui and Max.

I love Luismi's voice, too.

I find it interesting that Fausto is able to so easily control Burnie (whose collars are indeed getting taller and taller.) He really gained her trust quickly. It's almost like he's hypnotizing her. It would explain the creepy stare.

La Paloma- I get the feeling that the writers are just stretching things out. Does anyone know if more episodes have been ordered? Last night just felt like a lot of filler and stalling to me. But then, I am more interested in PipToni and FerCruz. Anything without them is becoming filler to me.

"Nati has left a note for María about going to Bombero Festivities with JuanJo since his novio is a ho and is gettin' it on with Osvaldo (or something similar, maybe that's not exactly what it said. I took some recapper license.)" Sara, you're great! :) Thanks a bunch for the recap.

Sara, this show suits your recapping style so well. I love your sweet, yet often caustic take on things and the way you revel in each character's flaws. I loved:

"Well, I don't want to see him marry someone beneath Gui."

But I really enjoyed the image you conjure with:

"They kiss and mumble into each others mouths."

You breathed life in to what was for me a rather ho hum episode.

Carlos

Sara - thank you for the great recap and advance notice that I can FFWD--> thru much of my recording. Sounds like lots of filler last night.

"Besides, he isn't running around saying he's looking for HIS daughter, rather the daughter of Victoria." ---- UUummm.... Que the ****? So he's not taking responsibility that the kid is his? Schmuck version 2.0.

Did the rosary JP gave to Burnie melt as soon as it touched her hands? It's going to take JP shooting a silver bullet thru her heart to kill her off.

El Alacrán is Sergio Acosta. He has been in a bunch of TNs. Among them FELS, Armando, but I don't remember who that is & CS.
Seems he always has a job, call Sergio, we need an ugly guy.

Cristina Saralegui is going to be on Azteca at 10PM tonight, talking about being fired by Uni.

No TdA tonight o Eva Luna
Premio lo Nuestro 2011

Sara: Love your 'recappers' license'!!!!! Bien hecho!!

I missed this TN, too, but feel like I have seen it thanks to your excellent recap!

Quick question: perhaps we have discussed this before, but is St. Bernard really JPs mother or was it the way around and the person we saw playing his father, was really not his father? I'm a tad confused on that point.

It amazes me that St. Bernard is so ready to tell JP, her Saintly Son, to get lost when she desperately needs him to pray for her soul. After all, the whole point of him going into the priesthood was for her salvation, yes?

How Nathi could drop Fabian of the beautiful eyes for that goofball JuanJo is beyond me. JuanJo belongs with his very own LindaHO!!

Really like this little meeting between Max and St. Bernard. Maybe Desinformada might open her eyes for a change. Honestly, her constant reference to her prior orphan state is getting on my last nerve. Get over it, Desinformada.

Gracias Sara!!

Susanita

P.S. Now that I am home and able to catch the TN...there is no TN tonight!

Vario: Thanks for the infos. I wish I got Azteca as I'd really like to see Cristina. I know we can't discuss this on the blog, but if you ind a link to the programme online after it is done, I hope you can post it.

Susanita

Susanita - I'm guessing that Nathi thinks Fabian is out of her league and therefore a hopeless dream, so she'll try her luck with JuanJo, who is a really nice guy, too. Beats sitting home. Plus, Bomberos rock, because they do dangerous work for others and save lives....but I digress. I can't blame Nathi because Fabian hasn't offered or promised her much.

Susanita,

"Quick question: perhaps we have discussed this before, but is St. Bernard really JPs mother or was it the way around and the person we saw playing his father, was really not his father? I'm a tad confused on that point."

Yes, St B is his mother but the man who raised him, Octavio, wasn't his biological father. St B had a little dalliance, got pregnant, and then discovered that the baby's father was a married man with a child. Her response: Burn down his house with the family inside. We thought all had perished in the fire, but with the appearance of burn-scarred Fausto, it looks as if the son may have survived. (Tricky point though. He should be older than JP and he looks much younger.)

Sara, Remember that Fausto earned his Bernarda Merit Badge that first day when he displayed his skill in corpse disposal and then lied to JP about the foul smell in the house. Eva, on the other hand, hasn't had a chance to prove herself. Yet.

Before I forget...love the theme song...love Luis Miguel and he can sing to me any time!

Cruz/Pablo can sing to me, too! I'd be happy as a demented clam!!

Susanita

NovelaMaven: Gracias, Amiga! I couldn't remember the details about who was who in the St. Bernard family.

Agree...Mr. Faustus looks too young to be the child that was burned, but we've had to adjust our Kryptonite Beanies a number of times. :))

Susanita

Cristina was fired i thought she retired from her show. I think that was a big mistake by Univision i thought a lot of people tuned into her show especially after a novela ends.

The more i see Victoria Ruffo in this role the more i dislike her playing it. I love Helena Rojo acting far better than what we're getting so far.

I was told that victoria Ruffo was picked to do this role because she crys at the drop of a hat....well please i am so tired of her crying everytime she turns around........it getting really tiresome.....and Osvaldo coming home after poking Linda ho to Victoria and not having a guilty bone in his body.......what a dog flea he is.......i hope Oscar does tell him something...I think they need to tell Victoria too.....why do people think they are saving you from hurt by not telling you......when the husband is a jerk and two timer....so that when u do find out its twice as bad because now u know you've been made a fool of and all these people knew all along and b4 u.....

El Privilegio de Amar, which this is based on, had 155 episodes. This one will be at least that length. Thus far I haven't seen anything added except the character of Eva. The Padilla character was different in EPDA, but was still the father of the unworthy boyfriend.

I have the feeling that the cast reunion show that Christina always did is now going to be Don Francisco's job. He did get Christina's time slot and what did we get? A second weekly episode of La Rosa de Guadalupe.

urban you're right the Eva character is new here i don't remember a second housekeeper after she got rid of the first one in EPDA.

The Cruz character it looks like they put a new spin on him because he wasn't introduced until later in the storyline. We'll see how that one goes but the JJ character didn't have a cousin from what i remember.

Sara: Terrific recap! "MamaRox doesn't want to see Max marry someone beneath him (Well, I don't want to see him marry someone beneath Gui." LOL! Great snark!

I have a feeling that Uni didn't want to pay Cristina what she was asking, but I guess we will find out tonight. I feel it's a big mistake on their part, but as we know, no one is indispensable. This is the first time I ever heard "fired".

Azteca isn't on cable, but it is on digital. I'm confused, but I know I can get it on my kitchen TV which is not connected to cable. I would think Comcast cable would have it, but no.

I have Azteca on but no Cristina.
No comprendo,

Thanks for the recap Sara. Your snark was great. Like others I loved the line: "MamaRox doesn't want to see Max marry someone beneath him (Well, I don't want to see him marry someone beneath Gui. She may have diseases and stuff. Ew.)"

Thanks everyone! I had a bit of withdrawal last night, but TdA will be back today. Yay!

Does anyone know how this one is doing in Mexico? Have they ordered more episodes? It seems for a while there was quite a bit of action and moving forward of the plot, then lately there seems to be not so much action.

I am confused about Fausto. If Burnie is his mother, how did they become separated? She must have dumped the baby on her lover, then burned down his house and hoped her son went with it? She definitely has a thing for crispy critters. Killing your own child . . . yikes... No wonder she is counting on JP's hotline to heaven contacts to redeem her.

Doris: I don't believe that St. Bernard is Mr. Faustus mother. As far as we know, St. Bernard killed Fausto's mother in that fire out of jealousy and rage.

Susanita

Thanks for the great recap as usual!
