La Verdad Oculta EP103 02/10/2011 – Bromance is in the air

or: The Three Musketeers ruined the Grinch’s wedding

*Fausto quickly explains his slip of the tongue: Mario wantED David and Gaby to marry when he got known she was his daughter. Gaby can’t stop weeping, she’s so confused, she doesn’t want to meet and talk with Don Mario again, who’s her father… and her father-in-law in the meantime? Cheerful Julieta arrives at home and Gaby tells her she isn’t Fausto’s daughter and they are half-sisters. The male version of Adela Noriega starts to cry heartbreakingly again. In the meantime Abelardo and David are talking about Gaby and Mario on phone. She’s a strong woman, she’ll get through this tough time. At Guilléns’ Julieta is devastated but Gaby promises nothing will change, they are sisters and Fausto remains her real daddy.

* In Michoacán Jorge advises to sad Dora’s sadness and advises her to return to DF. But she’s so afraid that the police would oblige her to testify, and Adolfo would accuse her of false testimony. And mark her words: Adolfo is a very bad man! In Mexico City Gaby arrives at home and tells David she needs to be alone, she can’t talk with Mario yet.

* At JJ’s the newlyweds introduce surprisingly humble Carlos to understandably suspicious Asunción, who looks daggers at him and he’s very amused at Carlos’s apology to Juan José. JJ believes Carlos’s regret is true but he defends Limón, too: Asunción instinctively knows who’s good and who’s not, therefore it depends on him if they are going to trust Carlos or not. Then put him to a test, says Carlos. Does JJ want him to kill his father? Adolfo would deserve that! JJ seesm to like the idea, Mommy Ale and Brother Asunción look very worried.

* After being encouraged and consoled by Dr. David, at last devastated Gabriela and her anxious daddy-who-impersonates-her-biological-daddy have a very moving conversation in the study. The tortured girl reproaches “Mario” for not helping her mother, but FaustiMario tells her by that time he didn’t even know Marta was pregnant. He loved her and if he knew she was pregnant he would’ve never left her! By the way, Fausto is her real father, he’s the one who raised her and took care of her. “Mario” apologizes and asks Gaby not to be mad at David, he always begged Mario to tell her the truth.

* In the neighbouring house Mommy Ale tries to convince the hothead boys that they shouldn’t take justice into their own hands. Talk with Faidella! No way, Carlos and Juan José know there aren’t enough proofs against Adolfo, however, they could pressurize him. Since they don’t have Dora’s letter, the boys ask Alejandra, aka the only woman in the house to write a fake one. Ale hates the idea, and she’s already outraged at the news that her silly sister is going to marry Adolfo, but she agrees to help them. While she’s writing a new letter that says it was Roberto and not Carlos who killed the maid, the boys decide to visit Adolfo in the evening. After Carlos leaves, Alejandra tightly hugs Juan José: she’s so worried about him, she doesn’t want him to be imprisoned again! Don’t worry, mi amor, don’t worry… in the prison… There are conjugal visits.

*David and Abelardo are talking about Gaby and Mario when Blondie gets a phonecall from his fellow musketeers and he runs to meet them. Alejandra calls Bertha to scold her for her marriage plans and to make her change her mind, but her efforts are pointless: Bertha wants to get married with Adolfo’s money and psychosis.

* Adolfo’s and Dante’s Weekly Evil Mastermind Meeting at Sagitario is interrupted by the three reckless, vengeful and… well, handsome musketeers. When the old men try to mock and insult them, JJ knocks out and disarms Dante, then threatens them with a gun. Oh, sweet justice, Adolfo and Dante look just as frightened as their victims. JJ throws the letter on the table orders Adolfo to set Elsa free. Dolphie tries to play the tough guy and scare the boys off with insults, but the musketeers swear he will end up in jail.

* Bertha and Jimena talk about Adolfo’s intentions, Carlos and the ugly quarrel between father and son. Yes, she loves Carlos but one can’t live on love. Adolfo shows up at Yolanda’s flat without invitation and orders her to calm idiot Carlos down. He and his little friends attacked him at Sagitario! But anyway, Adolfo’ll marry Bertha and disinherit Carlos. Yolanda tries to defend Carlos’s interests, but Dolphie tells her it isn’t her job. And look at the letter those idiots gave him! He’s supposed to believe it is the original one, but it couldn’t be, it would’ve been too easy. Victoria would’ve never given him such an important letter just to help his little friend. Anyway, tell Carlos if he ever tries to tell the truth to the police, Adolfo’ll ask David to order an audit, and believe him, there are many financial anomalies in the bookkeeping… which is supervised by Carlos! Never. Ever. Mess. With. Adolfo.

*At JJ’s Mommy Ale is very angry at the musketeers, especially at Juanito for attacking Adolfo and for being so content about it. *Viewerville: we agree with you, Ale, but you should’ve seen Adolfo’s face* She understands his anger and frustration, but he can’t break the law to take vengeance on Adolfo! He has to use his pumpkin brain and think about the people who love him, too! But no, he doesn’t understand her. Or he doesn’t want to understand her, which makes Ale very nervous. At casa Genovés David tells skeptical Gaby that Carlos is on their side from now.

* In Michoacán Dora tells Jorge she’s going back to DF, and Don Jorge, the knight in the shining store decides to accompany his friend. Next morning Carlos and JJ do their best to convince David that they have to pressurize Adolfo, who was so frightened last night, and while David agrees with them, he thinks they should be very careful because Adolfo is way too dangerous. Gaby enters the study and tells them Don Jorge came to talk with David. While Blondie learns from Jorge that Dora is all right but she doesn’t dare meet him in person, in the study gloomy, serious, smoking Carlos is telling gloomy, serious, smoking Juan José that he’s really changed, he’s ashamed of himself because of the sins he committed. At first surprisingly calm JJ gives him a hard time and tells him about his mother who’d died before he left the prison. Moustache is ready to give his life to help JJ clear his name, and JJ believes him. By the way, to his knowledge Carlos doesn’t have a job. Does he want to work as the manager at the restaurant of Mirador? *Viewerville and Carlos: wtf?!* Grateful Carlos gets VERY excited: Juan José, let me hug you!!! What? Wait, no, man, wait, no! No!!! When amused David enters the room he politely asks the hugging men if they want to be alone together, then he tells them about his new plan. He wants to ask Dora to write another letter (this time without a signature), in which she tells it was Roberto who killed the girl.

* While Bertha and Jimena are having great time and spend mucho dinero in the shopping centre, Don Jorge gives Dora, la Escritora the money David sent her, and she agrees to write a new letter. *Viewerville: it was high time, Dorita* An hour later the boys are reading her report in the study and try to figure out how they could convince Adolfo that the letter is original. Abelardo advises them to use her employment application at Mirador which was written by her. All they have to do is to change Dora’s name on it, but Adolfo will know the letter is written by a person who used to work in Mirador.

* The two old goons are sitting in tne condo, and while ill-looking Dolphie is swallowing his medicines, they are talking about the boys’ visit at Sagitario. Adolfo: man, you looked very afraid! Sevilla: oh, STFU, Adolfo, you were pale as a ghost! Dolphie gets a phonecall from very sassy JJ who tells him to check his fax machine, they’ll send him something he’ll surely like. When Adolfo reads the letter and the application, he gets paler than before and quickly puts them into the safe. Outside a dozen guests are waiting for him and his beautiful fiancé, but before they could get married he gets a heart attack. Adolfo! Adolfo, what happened to you?! Adolfo! *Viewerville and the Musketeers: gimme a high five!*

Good evening. :-) Here are the You Tube links to Episode 103:

Part 5

Thanks, Jeri. :)
Another alternate title: Viewerville loves Marco Méndez. This is definitely his week. How incredibly adorable those three actors were in the study scenes! And that serious, meaningful, "we are gloomy film noir characters" smoking was hilarious.

It's strange that Carlos doesn't have any memories of his past. If I remember well, he was already 5 when Adolfo acknowledged him. He never knew his mother because he was raised by others, but he must've remembered that there was no daddy around him when he was a little boy.

From yesterday:
I think this shows that no one but a few of us here in Viewerville, and Mauricio and Ulises (the two people she's known for the least time), care about Elsa.

And JJ ran to Leo on his wedding day to tell him about Adolfo's call, created a fake letter and entered the lion's den to help her. Despite the jealousy and the resentment because of the custody tragicomedy, he cares for her. The letter trick didn't work but he isn't done yet. It'd be an interesting situation if JJ found that damned letter and he'd be forced to choose between Elsa & Carlos and his rehabilitation.

My problem is that I don't know how could Adolfo help Elsa. I mean, JJ gives him the letter and then? He asks Deb to call the police again and say "oops, I'm sorry, it was a scam, and a guy called Édgar Whatshisname put the diamonds into that poor girl's fishbowl"? Or what?

And you know, after learning how the Mexican legal system works in this telenovela (rich guys with dozens of lawyers never get catched, even if there are 100 proofs against them, but poor guys without connections and help may end up in jail para siempre because of the presumption of guilt), I'm not surprised at that framed guys like Faustiago and JJ don't trust the police and the hothead musketeers want to take justice into their own hands.
But in the meantime I respect Leo and Ramón who are good cops and try to play by the official rules. It seems both parties will be needed to defeat the bad boys at last.

Okay, we have 17 more episodes to go so Adolfo can't have had the Big One. Unless, as with Mario, they hide his death. Berta pretends he's alive so she can inherit the dinero. She'd have to really pay off a lot of people including the judge so she can pretend they finished their "I do's." Just kidding. But I am really intrigued as to what will happen now with Adolfo either being hospitalized or dead. Or maybe it was a bad case of heartburn.

Looking forward to your recap, Aribeth. Love the title and J J's look and his curl and the cigarettes in the 40's/film noir scene. I was wondering what it reminded me of. LOL. Thanks for the links, Jeri.

GinCA

Jeri, thanks for the links!

Aribeth, I appreciate all of the interesting facts you consistently share with us. Your comments are so poignant: "I'm not surprised at that framed guys like Faustiago and JJ don't trust the police and the hothead musketeers want to take justice into their own hands." Stated perfectly!

Loved your title and pictures. Yes, we do love Marco Méndez.

While we may not all be in agreement about JJ and Elsa's complicated relationship (and it makes it so much more interesting that we don't :)), I think we are in consensus that Elsa needs to be freed.

I'm sheepishly admitting I dozed through much of this (bad cold all week). But, I know that the recap and comments will completely fill me in. I'm determined not to miss a moment of tonight's epiosode - Nyquil be damned! :)

GinCA, I can't wait to see what happens to Adolfo either. He can't be dead - yet. Another marvelous plot twist. Your idea that his death could be covered up like Mario's was great.

Diana

Jeri, replying to a comment from yesterday's recap. When Bertha accepted the proposal from Adolfo, I think all she saw were dollar signs before her eyes, but only for herself. I doubt if she even gave a thought about Carlos and his rights to the money. She wants all the money and Carlos on the side for fun.

I haven't watched this episode yet.

Margaret

Thanks Aribeth - great title and alternate title! Thanks again to all for yesterday's civics lesson on the Mexican judicial system -
Horrifying ! Totally understand the boys' motives. Notice how David appears less gleeful than the other two.

Question: How was the new Dora letter transaction able to be done so speedily?

Favorite line: JJ to Ale - "There are conjugal visits in the prison."

Favorite wedding dress of the novela to date: Bertha's bridal gown. She looked magnificently exquisite. Of all the gals, she
shows no cleavage in her daily wear. Is this her decision or the directors? She has an adorable figure and wears her clothes
beautifully.

Running off for the weekend -
may not be able to post again, but will read the recap before the next episode begins.

Very much enjoying our bonding experiences through this novela.

Floridia - You are totally right! Bertha did look beautiful (I begrudingly write) and she looks wonderful in everything. That said, I was a little disappointed she showed up for her proposal in rather faded jeans but a minor blip on her fashionista record.

Diana

Thank you Jeri for the links.

Can't wait to read your recap Aribeth. Thank you.

Poor Bertha. She'll be praying real hard that Adolfo doesn't die before she has her wedding. All that money was so close, lol.

I loved Bertha's wedding dress.

The Wicked Witch of the East and the Wicked Witch of the West really love to have a good cackle over their evil deeds and evil schemes don't they.

Was Adolfo saying he wasn't sure that Carlos was his son when talking to Yolanda?

Just been thinking, if Adolfo hates Carlos, then why did he care so much about getting Dora's letter. Why should he care if Carlos goes to jail or not.

They should have really told Gabi that the real Mario is dead. That is cruel especially if she will be trying to bond with 'Mario' thinking that he is her real father but it is really Fausto/Santiago. Cruel, cruel, cruel.

It was nice to see David and Carlos in the same room as allies and friends instead of rivals and enemies.

Margaret

I have to agree with Floridia. Bertha's gown was magnificent. Ale's was a disappointment. I can't wait for tonite's episode. It gets more and more exciting.

Thanks Jeri for the links. Anxiously awaiting your recap, Aribeth.

Ann-NYC

Good morning! :)

Margaret:
Why should he care if Carlos goes to jail or not.

It's all about Adolfo, as usual. 11 years ago he testified falsely to frame JJ and to protect the reputation of his hotel. If Carlos confesses it wasn't JJ who killed the girl then the police will know Adolfo lied. But since the police doesn't give a damn about Adolfo the Untouchable, maybe they will arrest Elsa again, just for fun.

They should have really told Gabi that the real Mario is dead.

It's so hard to see Fausto playing Mario when he's with his (their) daughter. Gaby's mind will blow when she finds out the truth.

Floridia:
Favorite line: JJ to Ale - "There are conjugal visits in the prison."

Same here, I laughed at that line.

Airbeth, can't wait for your fun-n-fact-filled recap.

Floridia--There are now two faked letters running around. The one they gave Adolfo was completely bogus, created by Ale for JJ and Carlos.

The other one David had Dora "re-create" the letter without a signature and eliminating Carlos as one of the murderers. Since Sr. Sanchez & Dora had come to town, it was quickly done in a restaurant and returned to David almost immediately. This is the letter the 3 Musketeers faxed to Adolfo and led to his "heart" troubles.

Yes, I agree, Bertha looked gorgeous. I was more interested in the guests. Where did they come from? Adolfo doesn't have any friends who aren't thugs. If they were people who know him from his businesses, there should have been a lot more there. P.S. Where was Yolanda?

I still don't see what JJ can do to get Elsa out of jail. It wasn't his scam and he has little at hand to "un-pruebarala" from the police accusations. The police need to track down the anonymous caller.

Margaret--we were all pulling for Bertha to have altruistic reasons for marrying Adolfo, but last night's episode put that to rest based on her conversation with her friend Jimena.

Gabi and Juli took the news about being half-sisters pretty well. It was a sweet scene. They've had so many strange goings-on in their lives, they can't be surprised by much.

I was hoping "Don Mario" would tell Gabi who he was so it would all be out in the open. I guess that will be in one of the 17 episodes we have left, eh?
Newbie-O-K

Just watched the show -- what a fantastic episode; was on the edge of my seat the whole way. I'm in love with this show.

Bertha's shopping reminded me of wearing hot pants in the 1970's, LOL. I wore a cute pair to traffic court and sailed through the appearance before the judge's bench with flying colors. ;-) We're all beautiful animals when we're young...

Gawd, I loved Carlos and Juan José's scene. Who could not be moved by that. So glad Juan José made Carlos ecstatic offering him the Mirador restaurant management job. That happened faster than I thought it would.

It's amazing Carlos still has enough ego in him to embrace Juan José so enthusiastically and readily. I thank Yolanda for that; it can't be anybody else.

Things are coming together so quickly now; I'm loving it.

Newbie, I think Bertha's conversation with Jimena was right in line with what we surmised about her reasoning.

She said she doesn't want Adolfo's fortune to go to anyone else now that he's disinherited Carlos.

She said she loves Carlos, but nobody can live on love. By the time the show is over, she will have looked him up and explained.

After an adjustment period, they will be together again, and Bertha will have done Carlos the favor of saving his fortune.

Jeri, like Margaret, I see only dollar signs in Bertha's eyes. That shopping trip was made by a girl who was not sick over what she "had" to do for her boyfriend, she was ecstatic with her new found wealth  She is a lazy, materialistic and selfish young woman who will end up with cute Carlos because Cupid's fateful arrow has struck. She is just one apology away from another boda, but this time with Carlos.  Glad I'm not her new mother-in-law and thank goodness for my Gabi-like daughter-in-law!!!

JJ has done all he can do for Elsa. Leo has dropped the ball in my way of thinking with Elsa and Adolfo.  The Three Musketeers wouldn't feel the need to take matters into their own hands if Adolfo had been locked up when he began menacing everyone physically. But, wouldn't our novela be boring without our smooth as silk villain, Adolfo!

On another topic, Jeri, did you "catch" the other Jerry with those hot pants?

Sandy, LOL, no. Jerry woulda liked the hot pants, but I didn't meet him for another twelve years after that...

Do you remember hot pants, or are they before your time. Also, Halston; I really liked Halston perfume.

Regarding Bertha, back up just a moment. Nobody said she was a sentimental dope.

I said yesterday that she knows exactly how she is -- and we know how she is.

But she does love Carlos, and she doesn't want anybody else getting his inheritance. That's what she said in this episode.

Bertha's going to share it with Carlos if she gets the chance -- which event seems overwhelmingly likely, even to Adolfo, as he is doing this now out of an impending feeling of mortality. Bertha's not missing that.

Jeri, after reading your comment regarding the JJ/Carlos scene, I decided it was too good to miss. Thanks to your links, was able to enjoy it as well.

Hoping Carlos' reconciliation with Yolanda comes quickly. If Juan can exhibit such extraordinary forgiveness of and generosity toward Carlos, Carlos can certainly forgive Yolanda for any perceived transgressions on her part.

Diana

Jeri, during the hot pants era, I was already married and working as a nurse in Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge MA. As I look back on it though, my nursing uniforms were pretty SHORT.

Bertha wants Carlos to have the money because she wants it herself. What is giving me pause, is her ( wearing faded jeans! ) feeling sick at Adolfo's dinner and then seeing the gold watch, at THAT time accepting the proposal. By saying she is accepting a marriage proposal to help Carlos makes her seem altruistic, not selfish. Ten per cent for Carlos, ninety per cent for her!

Diana, oh yeah, you should see that scene!

Sandy, LOL skirts were SHORT! I was in high school in Southern California in the late 1960's, and I doubt they were shorter anywhere. We all needed more than underwear to be honest. I can hardly believe it now.

Regarding Bertha, just a reminder she didn't agree to marry Adolfo until after he mentioned the marriage could be platonic and that the point was to stick it to Carlos.

In addition, Bertha was devastated at Carlos's destruction in the condo and begged him to leave before Adolfo shot him.

To repeat, no one has ever said Bertha is altruistic; not getting where that is coming from. She's opportunistic.

If she wanted to have the money all to herself and give none to Carlos, she could.

However, that's not borne out by her reasoning, as stated to Jimena. She said she didn't want someone else to get Adolfo's fortune, now that he's disinherited Carlos. She didn't have to mention Carlos at all.

And just before that she said she loves Carlos, but typically that you can't live on love.

She also knew Carlos couldn't find a job the last time after Adolfo blackballed him throughout the industry.

Jeri, I always wanted hotpants, but my mother always ignored my requests for her to buy me a pair, lol. I was scarred for life, lol. Halston was my fav perfume from that time. Just loved the fragrance and the shape of the bottle (Elsa Peretti).

If Bertha marries Carlos then Yolanda will be her 'mother in law'.

Margaret

Aribeth- I'm looking forward to the recap.

I love that the boys have teamed up and that JJ has given Carlos a job. I also noticed that David was the cool, levelheaded one in the confrontation with Adolfo and Dante. Everytime I see him behind Mario's desk, becoming the kind, wise patriarch, I think that Mario would be really proud. He is turning into the best of his father.

Once again, Gabi is being left partially in the dark. Let's see what she still doesn't know: Her mother was a ho; her brother is Carlos; her bio dad Mario is long dead; and her father Faustiago is pretending to be Mario. I like that each time Gabi is hit with one of these revelations and has to process the painful nature of it, she pulls herself together enough to comfort Juli and guide her little sis through accepting whatever it is. She's a good big sister.

Margaret, Elsa Peretti! Is that so...the shape was just iconic. I will check that out; thanks. It was a wonderful, heady scent.

My parents were pretty strict, but on some things they gave me no trouble. I could read whatever I wanted, and they never gave me grief about my clothes. I sewed almost all of them anyway. Dad gave me a clothes allowance, and I made good use of it.

That is true; I think Yolanda would round out Carlos and Bertha pretty nicely.

Vivi, I loved that scene in the Sagittarius, LOL!! The musketeers were all getting their giggles while the two goons were backed against the wall, mouths agape and eyes wide as saucers.

(I actually kind of pictured them standing there like shivering in their skivvies, ha ha. That would have been nice and humiliating.)

But I couldn't help agreeing with Alejandra later; Adolfo and Dante are ruthless and wouldn't stop at killing all three of them in revenge. But it was fun for a minute.

I agree that Bertha looked really pretty on her (non) wedding day. I don't think Bertha is capable of being loyal to anyone but herself. She loves her sister and she loves Carlos, but that has never gotten in the way of her betraying them for her own gain. Yes, it causes her pain when she sees them in pain. But the only thing that ever makes her change course, is not the pain of those she loves, but her own pain. The only times she has fled Adolfo is when the cost to herself seemed too high.

Carlos seems to love her as she is, with no real desire to change her. He just wants to be with her. But is that really the kind of person one should marry/have a serious relationship with? When the priest gets to the part about for better or worse, Carlos will have to know that Bertha does NOT stick around for the "or worse" part. She said it herself-- you can't live on love. At least SHE can't. I'm not sure what it would take to change her, and I'm interested to see how the writers can possibly create the kind of redemption for her that would make her worthy of Carlos' love and devotion.

Speaking of our former youthful bodies, when I was in high school in the early 90s, those short shorts came back in fashion. I had a few, and knew well the power those shorts had on boys. :)

P.S. Margaret, I just saw at Wiki that "...Halston, his perfume, was sold in a bottle designed by Elsa Peretti and was the second biggest selling perfume of all time..." I did not know that.

Vivi, I think wanting to be with someone for just the way they are is a good thing. It's the most naturally stable relationship, IMO.

Bertha's big insecurity has always been financial. Once she gets that taken care of, she can relax and calm down.

Hi all! I haven't had the time to catch up but I'm loving all the Marco Mendez love.

I've been his admirer since "Rubí" and even though he was supposed to be an obnoxious reporter in "Los Exitosos Pérez" I still found him cuter than Jaime Camil. I wish he'd be more noticed for his work by other producers. Too bad he is on Triunfo right now because an Emilio Larrosa is coming after in the 9 pm timeslot and I think he is fond of Marco, so I could see him getting a better role in one of his productions.

"El Güero" Castro likes him as well, lets see if after the success of Teresa (which just got the honor of a special sunday night finale) he gets a better timeslot and casts Marco in something good.

Meanwhile, there needs to be a movement to get Carla Estrada to notice him.

Jarocha

I meant an Emilio Larrosa novela.

Jarocha

Jeri- I wasn't criticizing Carlos for loving Bertha just the way she is. This is what's good about him. I know he would take her as the selfish cow she is. But I think he deserves better- namely someone who will be there for him when the chips are down. Even if he is rich when they marry, there is no guarantee that anyone's wealth, or health, will remain. He should be with someone who he can depend on in the hard times, as well as the good times.

Vivi -- I know you're not criticizing Carlos; but if Carlos loves her as she is, he's getting what he wants out of it.

I don't think Bertha's just "a selfish cow." For one thing, it's a nasty expression to cows. But she's got a liveliness and impetuousness. I bet she was born in a Monkey year.

And as I said, once her financial future is settled, her insecurity could resolve itself. She's probably one of those people that money can indeed make happy.

It's not the same for everyone; and in some cases money will not improve people or relationships. But I think money can make Bertha happy, and she knows it.

Looking forward to the recap Aribeth. It seems JJ and Carlos are quickly becoming BFF's for sure. A start of a great bromance. That was a great scene of them horsing around and David was a bit worried that a brawl was ensuing. Loved all three confronting Adolfo and I LOLed when he called them the Three Musketeers. JJ wasn't taking any crap from him or his thug companion Dante? He scared them both LOL. I guess the stress of putting Adolfo over the edge since he had a heart attack just before his nuptials with Bertha was to commence.

Jeri, several years back I got into a real nostalgic mood and went out to the perfume shops (in my home town) looking for Halston perfume, but no luck. It was a disappointment. I just wanted to sniff that perfume again, lol. I also have a 'love affair' for Elsa Peretti jewellery.

Carlos was always protective of Bertha. I think he saw her as naive and in some ways innocent. Not sure what he thinks of her now though, especially after she admitted that she was going to marry Adolfo.

She had plenty of time before the wedding to ring Carlos and try to exlain to him that she was marrying Adolfo for both their interests, if that was the case. But she didn't, instead she went out and had a fun shopping day with her friend spending money.

Margaret

Wow, Margaret, so they are not making it any more. I did wonder; maybe I'll check on that. Some perfumes they've been making for a long, long time.

Well, I think in the end Carlos will not be unhappy Bertha has done this; it's a good thing in this way: if she doesn't collect his fortune, it's not like Adolfo will re-inherit Carlos.

The fortune would just be lost to them, and as far as Bertha knows, Carlos will never be able to work again in that industry; this way they could have it all. Worth a shot.

Wonderful comments all on the Bertha/Adolfo non-wedding and the Bertha/Carlos relationship. I hope we're not getting too far ahead of ourselves. They didn't get married yet; Adolfo hasn't had time to change his will yet (I hope); and he's not dead yet.

The altruistic I was referring to was marrying Adolfo in order to save the inheritance for Carlos and that later she and Carlos would be together. As Margaret said, that was put to rest by not calling Carlos to explain her "plan" and instead going shopping. I would call that opportunistic.
Newbie-O-K

Thanks for the fantastic comments!

The recap isn't ready yet (long day, sleepy recapper), but I'll send it to Jeri tomorrow morning. Thanks for the patienc!

To all the experts,
I think that possibly Adolfo had an anxiety attack which can appear like a heart attack. If so, his recuperation will give him a
renewed zest for living in the manner to which he has become accustomed. Hypothetically, if he remains in good health and if he were never caught, there is no fortune to be passed down for a long time.

However, Bertha lives in the here and now. She can enjoy the lavish lifestyle she wants. There was no
hint that Adolfo was about to die when Bertha accepted the proposal, and he keeps convincing her that he is innocent of all crimes. So how can Bertha be thinking of saving the money for Carlos at this time? Adolfo could last at least 10 years.

She believes that as long as
Carlos is not going to enjoy any of the money, then why not take advantage of it for herself?
When opportunity knocks, answer the door loud and clear. It's a dirty job, but someone must do it.

Assuming that she marries Adolfo, which may not happen, she knows that there is great animosity between A and C, so it is not as if she can now carry on an affair with Carlos or slip him any of that money. He would not tolerate it. The situation has changed. And then there is that whole thing about all of Adolfo's ill-gotten gains. Who knows what money he will end up with?

Diana,

When Adolfo invited Bertha to meet
him, I believe that he told her to dress up in an elegant manner for a fancy dinner; however, she was without clothes. Remember, that
she had to make her speedy exit in the middle of the night without wearing much.

Sandy, my husband was from Cambridge, and I grew up in Milton.

Newbie,

I understand about the 2 new letters, but I am wondering why
if Dora came so close to the house,
why wouldn't she go all the way
to stay with her son and his family
all of whom want her with them?

Also, the Fax could not be read;
do the 3 Musketeers know that?

Why didn't they want the real letter signed? And in "reality,"
Dora did not see Roberto.
The authorities would have to take Carlos word for that. Do the guys not want Dora to perjure herself?

Thanks for the help.

Floridia, I think Bertha does know that Adolfo's thinking about dying, because that is the reason for marrying her.

He's thinking of dying and doesn't want to leave his fortune to Carlos, so he chose her. He's in a hurry to get this taken care of.

If he didn't feel it coming on, he wouldn't be bothering with this at all. There would be no need; but his feeling is right on: he's going to die.

Regarding the fax, Adolfo could read it; we couldn't very well. There was something on it. I don't think he would have put it in the wall safe if it wasn't legible.

Dora wouldn't have written any letter if they made her sign her name to it. That's the first thing she asked Jorge when he told her what they wanted.

She would refuse to be identified to avoid connecting her with the Genovéses and her son, David -- and more assassination attempts.

Personally, once again, I think the letter wild goose is pointless. It's a freaking letter; what kind of proof is that.

Aribeth- Don't worry about not getting the recap up till tomorrow. That gives me more time to either put it up tomorrow night or Sunday morning. :)

The only purpose of the letter is to mess with Adolfo's head. In the end, it's Carlos who must give the police a full account of what happened that night.

Newbie, just saw your comment. Altruism is selfless concern for the welfare of others: definitely not the description of Bertha marrying for the inheritance to share with Carlos later. Not altruism; rather practicality. As I said, Bertha is opportunistic.

Aribeth, thanks for the recap;
it was very detailed and informative. I had thought that when Adolfo was looking at the faxes, he said "nada,". Since I could not see anything on them,
I thought he meant there was no writing on them.

This whole scheme hardly proves anything, but I guess if the guy's
intent is to scare Adolfo, it is working.

Have a good weekend.

Jeri--I stand corrected. It's not selflessness Berta's exhibiting, it's selfishness (or me-firstness).

From the very beginning when we met her, she's been worried about how she was going to live in the style and manner to which she had been brought up. She admitted as much to Ale that she didn't want to work or have a career of any kind, so she has to marry for money. As long as Carlos had money and a job he was potential candidate.

Floridia--Friday night's episode clarified why they didn't need to have the "real" new letter signed, since Dora would have refused. Don't know if this is the place to mention it.

Dora didn't want to go near the house for two reasons: 1=she was afraid David would corral her there, call Leo and make her testify and 2=she's still afraid of Adolfo's goons and doesn't want to run the risk of being spotted, followed and perhaps compromise her and David's safety.

When Ado said nada when the fax was coming through, I thought he was telling Dante it was nothing since Dante was curious. He did watch as Adolfo put it in the safe, so he knew it was something.
Newbie-O-K

Thoroughly enjoyed your humorous recap, Aribeth. "The male version of Adele Noriega, Mommy Ale, Bertha wants to get married with Adolfo's money and psychosis" and "three reckless, vengeful... and well, handsome musketeers" are some of the funny lines and there are more, too. Thanks so much for your recap.

Aribeth- Thank you for the recap amiga. It was wonderful, as are the pics.

The Friday recap is up. I may add pics later, but I'm off to a b-day party, so not sure when I'd add them. Happy Saturday everyone!
