La Fea Más Bella #263-264 3/22/11 It’s only impossible until it happens.

Capitulo 263.
Read Julie's original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

Today we saw four impossible things: Alicia accepts Tom’s proposal, Omar regrets his sins, Lety grows some backbone, and MamaJulieta has a new suitor.

1. Lety challenges Aldo, “Why do you want to answer my phone?” and he backs off. She turns off her phone and he doesn’t like that either. So much for “El amor es libertad.”

2. Girls ask for Aldo’s autograph in a park. GSNAK.

3. AnaL wails in the vortex and Tomy offers a shoulder to cry on. She’ll gladly take more than a shoulder. Alicia watches with celos y chinches (bedbugs). Ali eavesdrops while Tom offers nouveau pauvre AnaL use of the apartment he just bought.

4. Fern looks for an apartment and Omar says they should share one. Omar asserts that he’ll never let Fern meet Aurora. Fern ponders that all this talk of Aurora makes him curious to meet her.

5. Aldo’s publisher gives him the first royalties check and wants Aldo to write another book.

6. Ali begs Marcia to not cash out and become poor. Marcia tries to make her see that it will pay off in the long run. It’s safe to say that Ali doesn’t understand delayed gratification.

7. Aurora calls Omar. He feels like she’s punishing him. For her he’d pay for all his sins. She sets up a date for tonight. Fern eavesdrops when she calls Manuel for a dress and tells him she has a date.

8. Aldad scolds Aldo for working instead of asking him for money (What parent would ever say that?).

9. The boys can’t find the keys. They look around the office and almost see Lety Aurorafied.

10. Ali complains to Marcia about Tom and AnaL. Marcia asks what she expects, since she never gave Tom any encouragement. Ali and her chinches try to sleep there, but Marcia kicks her out.

11. Omar again asserts that if Fern saw Aurora, he couldn’t resist and he’d steal her. Fern can’t wrap his mind around Omar really being in love. While Omar cleans up, Fern takes a call from Aurora and imitates Omar. She says she has a surprise for him. Fern reports it to Omar, amid much teasing.

Capitulo 264.
Read 5ft's original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Fernando helps Omar get ready for his big date.

2. Aldo’s boss fires him for taking a walk over lunch hour, attending to personal guests over dinner hour, and talking on the phone the rest of the work day. Not really, but I would if I were the boss!

3. Ali summons Tom to the restaurant of many names. She rages at him for offering her apartment to AnaL. Ali tells him AnaL is not a natural blond, she’s superficial, she only cares about money, and she’ll ruin him (el burro hablando de orejas). She accepts his proposal and he goes into convulsions. Tom says Ali needs his mother’s permission.

4. Aldo goes to Casa Padilla. MamaJ says Lety’s working late. Marta says she went with Fern to see clients. Son of Marcia asks, “What clients?”

5. Fern spies on Omar’s date with Aurora. Omar tries to kiss her but she slips away, into the arms of her novio. She only went out with Omar to make her novio jealous, and she sneers at Omar. He whimpers, “Then you were only using me? This isn’t possible! A woman using ME???”

6. Fern sees Omar drowning and tries to rescue him. Fern reminds him he’s the great Omar who never gets attached. Omar says he found his soulmate and was thinking about marriage. He realizes that he’s a piece of crap because he uses women and makes them suffer. He calls out for Aurora to forgive him for being a pig. When he passes out, Fern says, “Now you understand how hard love is, and how wrong you were to mock my love for Lety.”

7. Lety tells her diary that Aurora won’t return (4 times). Mama wants to know where she was tonight, and Lety says she had an errand. Aldo is far from mellow, wondering where Lety went tonight.

8. Lety arrives at work, and Aldo reads Marcia’s script. Where were you? When did you get home? Lety says she was doing something for Caro, and Aldo says, “I don’t believe you.”

9. Fern suggests to Aldo that maybe he’s not a good match for Lety. Aldo isn’t about to step aside. Fern bears down on him and says, “If you make Lety suffer, I swear, you’ll have me to answer to.”

10. Tom tells Lety that he’s engaged to Ali. She warns him he’s making a big mistake. He’s disappointed that his best friend can’t support him.

11. Omar begs Lety to forgive him for how badly he treated her. He needs her to forgive him so he can stay out of Hell and be at peace with himself. Lety tells him he still has a lot to learn.

12. Carol tells Lety that Omar is a mess. The revenge went too far. Lety regrets it now, but she says Aurora won’t appear again (5 times).

13. MamaJ answers Aurora’s phone. Omar says, “I don’t care if you have a boyfriend. I love you. I need to see you tonight. I beg you, Aurora.”

Thank you, Pata, for the all your work on the wonderful pictures. I know I've been asking for a lot lately, as the momentum picks up.

I learned a new dicho in today's shows. Marcia says if Ali hasn't given Tom anything (encouragement, affection), "él te paga con la misma moneda" - he pays you back with the same coin. I like that one!

That restaurant with the round stone column sure has a lot of names!
> Today it was Placide.
> In #200, the Santuario night, it was Candelaria.
> In #15, the day of the equestrian event, it was the restaurant at Fern's club.
> Usually it’s Le Noir. e.g. when Lety took cuartel there #143, or when she had the date with Tom.

Who was Aurora's "novio"? Anyone we know? (I don't remember...)

#264 was 5ft Latina/Kat's debut as a recapper. And what a debut!

Pata - I really do appreciate the photos; I get a kick out of Aurora's gowns. There was a particular color that I always wanted to see her in, and I don't think she ever wore it; maybe someday I'll try to doctor up the color in one of those photos myself. (But probably not... I don't have much graphics software to work with!)

One comment,
I sure wish they would have slipped in a Lety/Fern in Omar's bed flashback. When Fern started to leave the room (after Omar left) he closed the door. It was to talk to himself about following Omar, but I sure wish it was a flashback. How could Fern NOT have been thinking about being there with Lety? Especially sprawled across the bed like he was.
Mmmmmm, ...sprawled across the bed....
Jajaja

Hey Julie,
You are from New Bedford?
Are you Portuguese?
Diann

Julie, Aurora's novio was played by Eduardo Rodriguez. I found a filmography at this link. It says he was in Rubi and Ugly Betty, but I thought I remembered him from MEPS or maybe FELS.

Diann, I live in New Bedford... I wouldn't exactly say I'm "from" there. I'm not Portuguese, but quite a few of my neighbors are - in fact, the households on either side of me include at least one person who doesn't speak any English.

Paula - IMDB says Eduardo Rodriguez was also a doctor in STuD, but I don't recognize him. He probably didn't make an impression on me because it would have been a very minor speaking role. He has kind of a generic guapo look, though, and there are probably a half-dozen other actors who could be mistaken for him.

I just wondered if Aurora's novio would be some real-life star making a cameo appearance, or if it was some relative or acquaintance of Lety's, or something like that.

Ooooh! Now I see what you mean. When Lety thanked him afterwards, he said something about owing Caro plenty of favors and he was glad to help out. So Caro must've hooked them up.

I think in STuD Eduardo Rodriguez played the hot but cheatin' young doctor that Ivana boinked once or twice to 1) try to get pregnant, and 2) fake her pregnancy tests for her. He didn't have much screen time but he was real purty.

Absolutely fantastic screen shots today!

OK, I'm off to watch the second hour of this show.

Oh, that guy! Thanks, Sylvia. It's amazing how quickly my memories of STuD evaporated.

Thanks Julie for the answer.
Both sides of you have non-english speakers huh? There must be some loud discussions coming out of those houses!!
(I can say this because both of my grandmothers were non-english speaking Portuguese women)

Okay, I forgot to say how much I enjoyed Fern's imitation of Omar. He was hysterical. Even had head movements to go with the words. And how sweet of him to reprimand these "fast women these days" and how HIS Lety is refined and educated with morals. Wow has Fernando changed from the mujeriego de antes.

Also loved how Fern went to Aldo and warned him about hurting Lety. I'm glad I read the old post because I was clueless about half-orange, half-lemon.
So much funnier when you can understand all the dialogue.
So do you think the half-orange comment had any tie-in with the name of restaurant Alpo/Dad were at? Las Naranjas? I think that was the first time we saw that name.

Diann

I have a couple of comments about today's episodes. First, Aldo needs to be a parent because he has that disapproving parent look down pat. He uses that on Lety like she's a recalcitrant child and not a grown woman. I stand by my statements that he does not want her to grow up or change from being a fea. He likes to be in control and he found himself today in situations where control was not his. Oh poor boy, that's just too bad. NOT!

Lety is one mean woman when she has been crossed or put down. What she did to Omar was cruel; it was vengeance pure and simple. Then he's talking to her in the office and she's smirking. Look what she did when she saw THE LETTER. She went after Fernando and the junta at the jugular. Lety left no prisoners and left a lot of damage and destruction in her wake. There's a whole lot more to Lety than meets the eye. Fernando understands that but Aldo has yet to understand. Boy is he is for a surprise when he finds out how devious Lety can be when she is crossed.

I still do not see Lety becoming stronger as a partner to Aldo. When he does the mad face, she goes all childish and wheedling on him. You don't see that when Lety is with Fernando. Fernando has confidence in her and that's why he is so quick to defend her. Aldo doesn't have confidence but is quick to defend Lety because it reflects on him.

Barbara,
Bien dicho!
Diann

Thanks Paula. These were some fun episodes today. Always enjoy the Fern and Omar scenes together. Fern imitating Omar on the phone was great. Also thought Fern was really funny when he was talking with Aldo and did the Alicia imitation. I really enjoy how Fern gets under Aldo's skin.

Diann, I did think it was interesting that the orange comment was made so soon after the orange restaurant, but it's probably a coincidence. Maybe a writer had oranges on the mind.

As for my neighbors, the couple on the one side are elaborately private, so I never hear them. They don't talk to anyone, including the widow who lives on the other side of me, who also doesn't talk to anyone.

Interesting... I never thought of what Lety did at the Big Meeting as destructive (though I admit that including The Letter in Fern and Omar's folders did give the whole thing a vengeful flair). There was nothing she could do to fix the financial mess, and further participation would only have made it worse.

If you're in a situation where you're being used (as far as you know) to defraud others, I don't think it's mean to pull out of the scheme and let the others take the fall. It's not like she phoned in an anonymous tip. She faced the junta.

All she did was pull the plug on something that was long overdue and was definitely going to fail anyway because Ariel was so close to finding out the truth. Better for Fernando that it was Lety and not Ariel.

The only part of it that seemed destructive to me was that she naively assumed that her explanatory letter would be adequate to shut down F-I and reverse her lien on Conceptos.

I don't blame her for running away either, since they would have kicked her out anyway. Nor do I blame her for taking her sweet time in coming home after they'd said they NEVER wanted to see her again and were then DEMANDING that she come back.

The more personal fallout from that day was thanks to Marcia demanding to see what was in those bags. Lety had been quite willing - desperate, in fact - to keep the affair totally secret. If Marcia hadn't insisted on seeing the bags, the wedding probably would have gone forward as planned, huge mistake that it was.

And I have little sympathy for what Fern went through after she left. She was crying her eyes out, but he heard his mommy calling and he turned his back on her.

I can't defend anything Lety is doing now, but the day of the Big Meeting, I actually thought she did the right thing.

I see your points Julie; I do. But I think there's a mean streak in Lety and when she can pay back, she does so in spades. After she found the letter, she played Fernando. Instead of coming clean with him; telling him she had found the letter; she chose instead to exact some vengeance. Now, I certainly know she was badly hurt and it compounded the problem that existed after that idiot took her virginity when she was younger. A guarantee is that hurting people hurt and they hurt others badly. I do not think Lety is consciously exacting vengeance except in Omar's case. That was blatantly, out in the front, time to get Omar moves.

Change of subject but how about Aldo in the garden when he was getting so ticked off that he couldn't get Lety on the phone. He was losing his cool and then he tried to calm himself down. Aldo reminded me of Fonzie in Happy Days. When he would get ticked, he'd make a couple of moves to calm himself down. Aldo looked like he was trying to do a new age channeling. It was funny but man did he have a nasty look on his face.

Doesn’t it seem like, right after Lety chose Aldo, her relationship with Fern started getting better, and her relationship with Aldo started getting worse? She’s warmer to Fern now, and far less lovey dovey with Aldo.

Pressure's off with Fern. Pressure's on with Aldo. We humans are funny that way. Good observation Paula.

Don't know best where to post this but Eduardo Yanez was on NCIS-LA tonight. He played a Venezualan politician that people wanted to assasinate and then play the US for the murder. His English is really very good but I guess it should be that way since he lives in LA.

I agree Paula. Lety's relationship with Fern is getting better but with Aldo is heading down the tubes. I just don't believe Lety has romantic feelings towards Aldo. She is grateful and finds him safe so she convinces herself that she is in love with him. Kinda of like a 1-2 year old that's in love with his/her pacifier.

Barbara, thanks for the heads up on NCIS-LA.

I've been absent from this site for quite a while but had to stop in to see if LFMB was being discussed again, and I'm so tickled to see it is!! Glad to see some familiar names still here, and I've enjoyed the insights from everyone re: today's episodes. I'm home on vacation this week & it's been such a kick seeing LFMB again; I'm just agog over Jaime Camil all over again. Loved it today when as Fernando was leaving Aldo's office after having warned him not to hurt Lety, and he blows against the sails of Aldo's model ship. Aldo snarls & tells him to keep his bad breath away from his boat. I love the tit-for-tat between these two. I forgot how much I enjoyed sooo many episodes of this telenovela & what a great cast it had.

Julie & BarbaraM, I appreciate your insights about Lety, and I agree with both of your positions. Lety has definitely developed a mean streak as a result of her suffering, but I don't feel what she's dishing out is half as cruel as what was perpetrated against her, so I can't begrudge her her pound of flesh. I confess I did rather enjoy seeing Omar distraught. In my estimation, he got off easy.

BarbaraM, I agree with you that Lety's really on a more even footing with Fernando than with Aldo. They've come through the war together & there's definite mutual growth & confidence there, whereas Aldo seems to want to control situations rather than allow Lety to act on her own judgment. We'll see how things progress.

I agree with you Marie-Celeste - Lety's vengeful, but I don't blame her. What was done to her was pretty terrible. Even if Fern didn't mean it in the end, it was still just terrible. I think it also set her self esteem back by leaps and bounds. Honestly if she'd never met Aldo in Acapulco she would probably still be somewhere sobbing her eyes out.

I realized today that I get why Aldo is suddenly so jealous, besides the fact that Lety is telegraphing her guilt. He never got the chance to deal with the fact that his wife cheated on him. He probably never noticed the clues that time around so he's especially watchful now, given that he KNOWS that there's a prior relationship between Lety and Fern. I understand it, I don't agree with it at all, but I sort of believe that the way you get with someone if it's not on the up and up is the way that you'll lose them. The same could have also been said of the Lety & Fern relationship as we're seeing a lot of full - circle situations happening now between those two.

Please let this Aurora situation end soon! I just want her to be caught already. I thought that at least there was some sort of resolution with it today, but I agree with you Barbara that it's just nasty and vengeful on Lety's part - not attractive at all. I don't think Omar is in love with Aurora at all - he just never expected to be rejected and now his pride is hurt. It definitely was NOT his heart that was hurt.

I'm bummed I didn't pay attn to the NCIS:LA tonight - I was on a phone call, but I actually had the TV on it.

The one thing I notice with Aldo & Lety is that they both give each other credit for their respective successes; but Lety always tells Aldo that she had nothing to do with it vs. Aldo who doesn't ever say anything of the sort...he always just sort of seems to agree with her.

Although not really appropriate - I did think the scenes with Fern going in to talk to Aldo were cute. I really like it when these two are together no matter the discussion though. I don't think Fern really has the right too, but I like the fact that he's sort of trying to protect Lety no matter what - he just wants to see her happy now and that makes me love him more and more each day!

It's interesting that Alicia has now accepted Tomas' proposal - since she's Lety's equal and opposite, does that mean she's going to break it off with Tommy for another in the next day? LOL

I felt bad for Tomas with Lety's reaction. I understood how she felt because Alicia has truly been awful to her, but I think Tomas was supportive of Lety even when he didn't like Fern. He just warned her to be very careful and she isn't returning the favor at all.

Thank you for the recaps and photos. I really liked the original recaps today, lots of laughing for me. :)

I can't wait for the showdown tomorrow with Julieta. Someone has to call Lety on this situation - it's just not right.

Random question - where is PG? I think it was in someone's recap yesterday, but he's been missing for a while...it's about time for one of his predictions...maybe he'll be the one to blow the lid off this Aurora mess.

GP, you didn't miss much on NCIS. The team suspected an assasination attempt against him, so they looked at photos of him. Finally at about 9:45, we saw him giving about 2-3 minutes of a speech in English that was just, "I'm glad to be here among friends, you're wonderful people," etc. That was all.

You mentioned that Fern wants Lety to be happy. It was touching when he asked Lety if she was really happy. The only thing he got for his sacrifice was seeing Lety happy, so he wants to make the most of those crumbs.

When Lety was hiding from the boys, she prayed to God for help. In the old days, she’d pray for help and then thank God when things worked out. This time she forgot to give thanks. Another indication of the new Lety.

Barb you posted a lot of what I was thinking and also the Yanez appearance on NCIS LA. I've also seen him in a L & O episode as a Dominican drug dealer.

Lety does have a mean streak, not only from back in the big bad junta days but when she was planning to dump Fern she demanded that Tomy give up on Ali. She always couches it as for his own good since Ali isn't a nice person and she doesn't want him hurt. So now she is happy, happy, sappy with Aldo and when Tomas shares his good news she throws a bucket of cold water on him. I think when he told Aldo that she was envious he was right. She appears to think Tomas belongs only to her.

Her treatment of Omar was vile even if she and others think he deserved it. It takes a very big man to go and make a sincere apology as he did to her while she sat and smirked. She is a bit of a hypocrite when she told Caro that revenge was a dish served cold but that it is bitter since previously she had enjoyed the idea that he had been hurt. The really bad thing now is that she has backed herself into a corner as Aurora. She deliberately hurt Omar, she sneaked around and lied to Aldo and now Julieta knows something is up. I'm wondering just how many lies she will have to tell to cover her a** on this one and I'm sure it won't be pretty.

The Fern/Omar scenes were great, as usual, with Fern really worried about Omar knowing how far off the rails he himself went when Lety ran off. The two of them play off of each other really well.

Aldo the smooth talker has certainly done some serious regressing into a petulant jerk. Lety is his novia not his possession but he hasn't gotten that through his head which is too stuffed with platitudes about el mar.

God spare us anymore of Ana Lety whose annoying shrieks are even worse than the cuartel.

On pencil watch now Omar's pencils are being flipped over and not when he and Fern are playing with them.

For the record Aldo getting a royalty check that fast is ridiculous. It is one of most writer's biggest gripes, how long it takes to get them. Then again he wrote and published the book in about three weeks so why am I surprised.

Hi, Marie-Celeste! Nice to see your name here again!

Like others, I am disappointed that Lety is not being more supportive of Tomas. I guess she's too wrapped up in all her personal drama to pay much attention to him at all.

I do think Omar had it coming, but I had always hoped he'd get it at the hands of a guest star, so that Lety could keep some of her moral high ground. But maybe this is her version of hitting rock bottom. Perhaps it's another clue that she's making a lot of bad choices.

Did anyone else think that her reaction to the Aldo-groupies was odd? I couldn't tell whether she seemed jealous, threatened, annoyed, or amused.

This is at least the second day in a row we hear Fer warn Aldo: “If you make Lety suffer, I swear, you’ll have me to answer to..
ITA Paula, Fernando knows how to pull Aldo's strings and get under his skin.
Regarding the oranges and lemons... in spanish we have a phrase 'he/she is my 'media naranja'' meaning he/she is my significant other... so Fer words to Aldo basically were saying maybe you are not as made for each other (when he said one was orange and one was lemon) as you think...

ITA that after Lety chose aldo her relationship with Fernando seems to be getting better and more at ease while her relationship with Aldo, now that he knows they are officially engaged and he is playing the 'i own you' role, is deteriorating by the minute...

ITA with those who say lety doing what she did at the junta was vengeful but remember she meant to cover up for Fernando again up until that morning when she confirmed by what she heard him and Fernando planning (to send her away so Fer could marry Marcia). And like it has been said, it was good that she pulled the plug because if she had covered for him again and Ariel pulled the plug things would have been much uglier.
And her 'revenge' on Omar sounds cruel and her playing hard when he appologized (nice touch of producers to let Fernando hear that appology and Lety's response) but I agree that Omar still does not really know what he is talking about and has a lot to learn yet.

about EY, while he was away from Mex in between his two 'novela lead phases' he was doing movies and cameo appearances in tv series in US so he just went back to do the same after his last novela (FELS?)

love your no. 2 explnation on 264, paula.

loved it when Fer told Omar that the most beautiful woman in the world is LPS and Auro-Lety was sneaking out of her office and heard/saw him say that... her facial expressio was very sweet. Definitely the Fer/Lety relationship in last few eps is painful to watch on the Fer side, but is getting more 'intimate / [dulce]', for the lack of another term, lately.

Barbara, when you say...
There's a whole lot more to Lety than meets the eye. Fernando understands that but Aldo has yet to understand.
I tend to agree, even though it is for different reasons... I think Fernando is seeing Lety as a human being with virtues and defects (more virtues of course)... but he respects her and gives her the space to analyze and act on her own judgement...
aldo seems to only want to know what he wants to see in Lety... and when he sees her act differently than the Lety he 'envisions' he reacts and puts on the Marcia act/play.
IF Aldo were to marry Lety it would be so like Marcia and Fernando that Lety would be even more miserable by that on top of not really being in love with Aldo.

About Omar's apology. He recognizes that he did something awful. That's good. That's a big step for him. But his motivation is all self centered. Please forgive me so I don't burn in Hell, and so I don't lose sleep. It's very much like Fernando's early selfish love. "Lety makes me happy," without thinking much about Lety's needs.

sorry, forgot EY was in the new CS... you can tell how much I wanted to remember that one LOL
