La Fea Más Bella #269-270 3/25/11 Aurora is the key to Fernando reaching his goals.

Capitulo 269.
Read 5ft's original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Tom asks Ali when he can meet her father to ask for her hand. Ali gets nervous and dodges.

2. Lety is in a twirl about Aurora and asks Tom for advice. In her fantasy, Omar hears she’s Aurora. He says, “You don’t just deceive me, passing for Aurora. You are also playing with (the affections of) Aldo and my friend Fernando. Three of us fell in love with you. You betrayed us all.”

3. Lety says she doesn’t want anyone at Conceptos to see Aurora. Tom suggests that they film off site. Lety asks Luigi if that’s possible. She tells him Aurora will work for them.

4. Aldo and Fernando pressure Caro about Aurora. Lety comes in and says she’s going to meet with Jax (Jacques) to find a solution. Fern wants to accompany her as her assistant, and Aldo as her obsessive, possessive warden, but she insists on going alone. After she leaves, Fern tells Aldo he needs to loosen up! The world has turned upside-down!

5. Tom tells Jax that Aurora will meet with him. Jax calls Lety’s office to ask her to the meeting, but Fern tells him Lety already left because she had an appointment with him. Both men are confused.

6. Caro visits Omar to console him. He says he’s never been a good person so he has no friends. She makes him admit that he’s depressed because Aurora’s gone. She gives him a supportive hug that turns into a serious kiss. Caro is very moved, but Omar says Aurora is the only one for him.

7. Fernando arrives at the meeting because Jax invited him. Aurora didn’t want anyone to see her, especially not Fern, so she’s very cold to him and he has no idea why. She demands $1M for the job. Jax is surer than ever that he must have Aurora for the campaign. Tom tells Fern he has to stay out of the negotiations. Fern asks what Aurora has against him; what did he do to her?

8. With Omar gone, Fern only has Aldo to rehash to. Aldo tries to convince Fern that Aurora would make a good partner for him. Be careful what you wish for, Aldocito! Fern says Lety never went to the Jax meeting. Aldo remembers that she didn’t want them to accompany her.

9. Caro tells Lety about the kiss.

10. Tom asks Fern and Aldo to organize his bachelor party, while the cuartel organizes one for Ali.

11. Aldo and Fern ask Lety why she said she was going to meet Jax and didn’t, and besides, where was she? She takes off her glasses and smudges her eyebrows, and both men notice something’s different.

Capitulo 270.
Read Julie's original recap, then come back here to discuss it.

1. Ali orders Marcia to organize the party for her.

2. Tom updates Lety. Jax says Conceptos has to contract Aurora for a lower amount or else.

3. The stripper cakes get swapped. Hijinx ensue. Luigi is the only one enjoying Tom's party. Celso and Saimon try to take the girl back to the men’s party, but Tomasa and MamaJ forbid it. So the men all go to Lety’s house. Tomasa buttonholes Marcia to find out about Alicia’s family and background. Has she had other novios?

4. Alicia wakens Tom. Coming out of a dream, I think he mumbles, “It wasn’t me. Alicia made me give her the check.” She sweetly says, “May I lie down in your bed?” then she shoves him out and he sleeps on the couch.

5. Lety is haunted by the Aurora situation, so she suddenly tells Aldo that she wants to leave for Acapulco today. In front of a fountain, he says she needs to fulfill her duties first, so she can be content. She says she may have to do something he doesn’t agree with. He tells her to do what she needs to, and she can always count on his support.

6. Fern tells Lety that the contract is important to him because he can pay back a big chunk of the debt to Aldo. He can also recover his self respect, knowing he can deliver results. He would feel useful again. He begs for Lety’s help and touches a nerve, and she makes her decision. She tells Tom Aurora has to return, for everyone’s good.

7. Ali refuses to thank the cuartel for last night’s party.

8. Fern says to himself, “I’m going to work harder than ever to win back Lety and Conceptos, and send Aldo back to Aca.” Lety arrives and tells him Aurora accepted. Fern will tell Jax that he and Lety are headed for the meeting. Lety begs off; she has a lunch date with Aldo. Just then Aldo comes in and says, “Since you and I aren’t doing anything, I’m heading out.” She shoos Fern out and whispers to Aldo that she has to go meet with Jax to sign the contract.

9. Marcia tries to warn Ali not to mistreat Tom; he doesn’t deserve it. Ali says Marcia’s not a friend if she doesn’t let Ali move in with her. Marcia says she’s selling her apartment and doesn’t know where she’ll live.

10. Aldo’s publisher introduces him to the Carmina, the editor who will help on his project.

11. Aurora, Fern, and Tom arrive at the meeting with Jax and Pablo Cantú (Snowcap). Once again, Fern asks what she has against him. Jax says they need Lety there to sign the contract.

Why on earth would they have Ali’s party at Lety’s house? The cuartel is throwing it, so one of them should host it (e.g. Marta or Irma). Lety is Tom’s friend, but not Alicia’s. It would make about as much sense to hold it at Aldo’s.

Alicia is showing more skin than the stripper. Then again, Ali has more skin to show.

Marcia really has changed When Humberto told her to discard the shrew, it worked! You see it at the party.

In the old days, after Omar's apartment, Lety often took the "shield bearer position" behind Fern's right shoulder when an adversary entered the office. Yesterday for the first time, Fernando took the shield bearer position next to Lety when someone came in.

And now, Fernando has started standing behind Lety’s desk when she’s not in and someone is in the office. It's as if he’s the substitute president when she’s out. As soon as she takes the throne, he moves out from behind the desk. But if an adversary enters, he goes back to shield bearer position.

After today, there are only three more weeks left in the series. Hang on tight!

OMG ¡Qué divertido! There was so much to love about these episodes.

In answer to yesterday's question, there are numerous wonderful non romantic pairings. Aldo and Fernando are my favorite. I like the way they needle one another but also support one another -- and Lety.

But Luigi with almost anyone is wonderful to watch. He is great with Alicia and now that he's making friends with "Orni" they are great and today he & Tomás were great.

The French farce aspect of this show is just getting rolling. Monday looks like it will have Marx Brothers aspects.

Güera, can you please explain what "French Farce" means? Thanks!

In classic French comedies (farces) there is a lot of mistaken identity and a lot of running in and out of doors and hiding behind curtains. The preview of Monday indicates that Aurora is in the room and Jacques wants to see Lety. Then as soon as Lety arrives he needs Aurora. We can predict that Lety will spend a lot of time changing in the baño -- and maybe showing up in Aurora clothes and Lety eyebrows. That seems like a classic farcical setup.

Paula, thanks for the posts. Am watching these now. Loved the little chase around the desk with Fern Lety and Thomas and Thomas wanting to "play" as well and Fern telling him it wasn't a game. Too funny.

I forgot to mention I really liked Letty's beige suit with the white shell underneath. She really looked put together and professional.

Pata, thank you for the screenshots. Did you get my e-mail?

Yes, maybe Lety is coming out of her hide-inside-the-jacket fashion stage. We can only hope.

In Lety’s fantasy, Omar chastises Lety for leading on various men. I'm sure she had the fantasy because she feels guilty. The question is, is the guilt because Aurora is deceiving them, or is her guilt for going to Aldo when she loves Fernando, and thus hurting both of them?

In the park in front of the fountain, gone is Son of Marcia. Instead we see the return of Aldo of the Sea, who is not obsessive, possessive, and controlling, and who can say something more substantial than, “Ibby dibby dibby ibby.”

And in Lety’s office, we see the return of part of the old Fernando. He’s lost, and the only one who can rescue him is Lety, just like when she was his assistant. Just like days of old, his need strikes a nerve for her.

Paula,
Your explanation last night of the relative name recognition and popularity of Juan Soler, Jaime Camil and William Levy was very helpful. To me Soler is way sexier than Levy who has never appealed to me. The older guy thing never hurts Richard Gere so why would a few crow's feet keep Aldo out of the running for Lety's affections?

So your explanation of Soler's star status when the show first aired explains why Aldo was a more popular choice for Lety back then than he is now.

If there were no Fernando in the wings I would find Aldo & Lety a warm & loving couple. I found their chemistry today much better now that Lety thinks she has chosen him & is no longer resisting. I'm glad we have a new potential interest for Aldo after Lety dashes his hopes -- and I'm so glad to see Laisha Wilkins (sp??)

Güera

I just posted the last screenshot, so make sure you don't miss it.

Güera, I think it was Julie why posted about Soler's popularity back in 2007. T'wasn't me. I agree with you, that information does explain a lot of things. If back then, Soler was a big heartthrob and Camil was just a little blip on the radar (Camil's 2 TN's before that really should be forgotten), of course many would expect the bigger star to get the girl. But.. you, you're Don Fernando!

There are so many funny moments & so much witty dialogue in today's shows. The smudged eyebrows and the double take by the new comedy duo Fernando & Aldo was one of them.

Love the screen shots.

Hi all, sorry for no comments yesterday, I was having technical difficulties.

Paula, in answer to your query about favorite pairings, I can't say I have an absolute favorite because I'm way to fickle for that. However, like Güera I have been enjoying the Fernando/Aldo scenes very much. They seem to be having the best time ever.

Speaking of entertaining, I loved Marcia at the party. I haven't seen the actress do comedy but I hope to see it sometime. Her face when she needled Alicia about her suegra was priceless.

What fun to see Laisha Wilkins! I adored her in Un Gancho al Corazon and I look forward to her being a love interest for Aldo.

Oh my, our Celso and Saimon are incredibly hot. What lovely eye candy for the ladies and the luigis.

Thanks Paula, Pata and other recappers for the recaps and most excellent screen shots. What fun!

I love French farce and I look forward to Monday's show. I'll try to pay extra attention for any clever word play, not easy for me when the dialogue is in Spanish.

Why does Jax need Lety to sign the contract? He accepted the contract from Omar who had no position at the company; they just let him use the office after Doomsday. Whereas in this meeting, Tom could sign as a Conceptos VP, or Fernando as assistant to the president.

I really don't have any comments on today's show except to say that Fernando is like a Saint Bernard. Always there when you need him and so protective.

I was thinking about the fact that there are only 3 weeks of this show left. It's been fun getting to know everyone on this board. With La Fea, Eva Luna, and Llena De Amor all ending soon, I guess I'll go into hibernation instead of posting comments. Not interested in Theresa nor find much to delight me in Triunfo De Amor. William Lety is not as hot in that one as he was in Sorteligio or may be I've just seen too much of him. Anyway, I'll miss exchanging comments with all you ladies and admiring the tremendous work that Jaime Camil has done through La Fea. At times, we've been on opposite sides of the fence but that's what great debates are all about.

I love your post, Barbara. This board has been something extrordinary. The community, the civility the depth, the perceptiveness. I think I'll never again enjoy a board as much as I have this one.

Heads up, veterans. Monday is already the slumber party. And Wednesday is one of my favorites of the whole series.

I think Fern has pretty much complete his transformation; now he's gaining ground. Do you see any signs of him inching toward winning Lety or regaining the presidency?

I think that Aldo talking marriage in front of Lety, his dad, and her parents brought home a truth that she doesn't want to face yet. Marriage to Aldo means sleeping with him. In Lety's mind, it's okay to hug and kiss him and even to say she loves him, but sex? I don't think Lety wants to go there because she will be comparing Aldo's abilities in bed with Fernando's and there can't possibly be a comparison. I think Lety knows that and wants to forestall marriage as long as possible.

On the other hand, if Aldo forces the issue and threatens to walk away, I think Lety will cave because she can't give up her pacifier. Though I don't think she's aware of it, Fernando is more firmly entrenched in Lety's heart and mind than Aldo. She doesn't want Aldo to go but if Fernando leaves, it will destroy her. Somewhere deep inside of her she knows this and is trying desperately to hang on to both men. But there is a point where Fernando will have to cut and run in order for him to survive. If Lety agrees to marry Aldo, Fernando will, for survival sake, leave. He would not be able to bear seeing Lety and knowing she is sleeping with Aldo. It would torment him day and night and break him into little pieces, eventually.

That's my take on things. At some point, Lety has to wake up and face reality. She can't have her cake and eat it too, which is what she is trying to do now.

Only three weeks more thank God. I am so ready to cut my wrists every time the cuartel arrives on scene and it really is time to wrap up the Aurora stupidity and then focus on some interesting relationships.

Lety really is an idiot and backed herself into a corner when she keep trotting out Aurora to torment Omar. And going to a meeting with Jax the Fox was the height of insanity. In reality no one at Conceptos would see though her disguise because they wouldn't be looking for it. It's like when you ride the same bus to work every day with the same people and then see one of them in a restaurant someplace. You have no idea who they are because the context is different. Filming the commercial away from Conceptos is a good idea if for no other reason then to keep the cuartel out of the picture.

Lord God don't ever let me get invited to a bachelorette party like Ali's. LOL. I can't help laughing watching her plan a wedding that would rival William and kate Middleton's.

I liked that scene between Caro and Omar. They look good together and they are good friends. He can really talk to her and she listens which is more than what happens when he talks to Fern who is so wrapped up in his own problems.

The tone today seemed lighter than it has been probably because the cast can see the light at the end of the tunnel. And the pencils all behaved themselves.

Go Cats! (Sorry about that but I'm trapped in basketball madness).

March madness -- how exciting -- unless you get knocked out in the second round. Actually I've missed all the b'ball talk we had going on one of these blogs (Gancho? Pecado? Dinero?) last year at this time so thanks for the reminder of the breadth & interest of this Caray Community.

Güera from (sitting out the sweet sixteen) Syracuse

Aurora tells Fern, “If you follow me, if you insist, if you hound me, you are less likely to secure anything from me.” Possible foreshadow?

I'm certain Lety agreed to reprise Aurora because Fernando needed her, and she has NEVER been able to resist when he needs her. When he told her the campaign was his chance to recover his self respect, she was moved and so was I. Did you see how she was melting as he talked?

I love watching for positions - where people stand, etc. The way he keeps ending up behind the desk, I think means that he's gradually regaining the good parts of his old self. Not that he will grab the presidency from Lety, but that he's coming up out of the pit and starting to stand tall again.

Watch the way Fern deals with Jax. Fern is an exceptionally good salesman, almost as good as Humberto. But Fern recognizes that Jax is a better salesman, and also a better businessman than Fern.

In the past I have had a reserved respect for Marcia--classy, professional, fairly level-headed.
The eye shadow was a disaster at times and she wears the absolute noisiest shoes! But she was never a fave of mine.
I must say, the past couple of weeks, she has genuinely cracked me up. The facial expressions (especially while interacting with Alícia) are just hysterical.
For anyone interested in seeing the actors of LFMB out of character--there is a 12 part YouTube--the show "Cristina". I have them all saved! And Marcía is just darling. they have so many of the stars; Fern, Lety, Omar, Julieta, Erasmo, Luigi (and new baby at the time), Tómas, Alícia, and others. AND, for the Aldo haters--NO Aldo. (unfortunately)

Sylvia, you mentioned wanting to see Elizabeth Alvarez (Marcia) do comedy - I was going to mention FELS (I can't remember if you braved any amount of that one at the time) but the more I think about it... no. I wouldn't technically call that "comedy" in any case. I would call it "silly." But it did let her do something other than snotty and screechy!

Julie, I started to watch FELS but just couldn't stick with I because I got too busy with other things. However I did enjoy Elizabeth Alvarez in it along with several other of the actors. I would love to see her in something truly comedic.
