Triunfo del Amor #99 4/26/11

Gentle viewer/reader. School is in its final weeks and these are trying times for teachers. Please forgive the general lack of quality to my recaps for a while. When Summer begins, the late time slot won't matter and all will be well again (well, relatively..)
  • Os demands to know “Who is the baby daddy?”
  • PJP walks up and says…several times… that he is the baby daddy. Os is understandably impactado.
  • Os does the expected “you’re a priest!/Vic how could you?” freak out. Os wants to know why the good padre didn’t tell him. PJP tells him all secrets have their moments to be revealed. Os’s heavy breathing drowns everything out.
  • Os demands…demands(!) an explanation…right now!
  • Vic begins her tale of woe…she was an employee in Burnie’s house…that’s where she met JP and fell in love with him (perdidamente…lost) but Doña Demente had already decided he was destined for the priesthood…but one night…
  • JP takes up the tale…it was ONE night. He hadn’t yet taken his priestly vows…
  • Vic continues…she gave him her purity...she committed a sin
  • JP interrupts it wasn’t a sin, it was two souls giving themselves over to each other. Two innocent and inexperienced young people looking for love. Very spiritual blah blah
  • Os says oh you paint it all so innocently, but put yourself in my place. How do you expect me to understand? You’re the baby daddy and all those times I confessed and trusted in you and now I find out you’re the baby daddy? How can you say it was an innocent and pure act?
  • JP says it was. Neither of them had even known love. After that night he went off and did his priest thang.
  • Os is amazed. You were really together just that one night?
  • JP is “yup”. Just one night. He never saw Victoria again and  only recently discovered he had a daughter.
  • Gui is holding baby Osguito (who even as a babe is a little creeped out.) Gui is doing the “sangre de mi sangre…mi hijo” TN lines. Baby cries. Gui tries to shush him. I’m really scared…is Gui going to eat the baby? Whew. Just a kiss. (And that's all we see of Gui tonight, so what was the point of that??)
  • Xi is convincing the Sandoval lawyer that she has been horribly abused while under the Sandoval roof. She didn’t just run off and abandon the baby like Os is making it seem. She shows shows bruises (actually made by Gui last night.) They threatened to kill her if she didn’t leave.  Max had a lover. Xi had to leave to save her own life.
  • Lonso is telling Max about Xi’s knife play with Maria and how she would have killed her if Fausto hadn’t shown up. Max asks why she didn’t tell him. Lonso reminds him what María Desamparada is like. She will put her pain aside and say nothing …anything not to cause anyone worry. Max heads off to talk to Ximena. Lonso tries stop him but the phone rings. It’s a business call. After making arrangements for later, he talks to a picture of Maria “Ternura” Desamparada and tells her everything will be ok.
  • Cruz!! He’s visiting Fer with a flower and pinwheel! And a slightly, no..terribly off-key rendition of “Mi riqueza es este overused song.” They talk for a bit. He tells her Vic gave permission for him to visit. Fer tells him she’s going to help with the family business. He gives her a big pep talk. He knows she can do it. She’s a woman with a lot of character.
  • Os can’t believe PJP never knew the consequences of that night. Vic says Burnie hid it from him. PJP wasn’t at fault that night. He always had pure feelings…was able to rise above the base instincts of most men…(so basically she takes another shot at Os’s cajones.) She tells him that he forgot the the most important thing to her was his fidelity.
  • Os channels his inner yenta (Must be where Max got it from yesterday) and is all “Oy! Again with this all being myfault?”
  • Vic-¡Sí, Osvaldo!
  • PJP interrupts and says that even though they deny it, Vic and Os still love each other. He reminds them of the vows they took before God and Os corrects him…they never, never got married in the Church (ooo, will we have a double wedding for the finale?)..and now Os realizes why. Vic had all those secrets. She deceived him too and she has no right to reproach him. PJP does the throw the first stone quote. He says they should be seeking forgiveness. I pick up nunca and amor. CC says "nuco l uó e amr" Helpful, isn't it?
  • Fer and Cruz: She'll never escape this wheelchair. He wanted to be a veterinarian. Fer is going to help him study and prepare for the tests he would need to take to get into university. He leaves her with a kiss and heads out the window. Shucks, these crazy kids get me every time. I think this couple has the most chemistry of the TdA bunch. (I hope we see more of Livia Brito at Televisa.)
  • Fab comes to visit. They look kind of uncomfortable…(the Fab/Fer music is annoying when connected to them...not so bad on its own.)
  • Maria is singing to JP-ito. Lonso knocks and Maria tells him to come in. He has some incredible news for María. The cosmetics folks want to make her the face of the campaign and put her in commercials! It’s a once in a lifetime chance and she can make big bucks and buy anything for bebé! Maria isn’t so sure she’s ready to go back to that world.
  • PJP comes to call and Lonso tries to recruit him to convince Maria to take the gig. Maria wants to know what PJP thinks and he agrees it’s good when a lady doesn’t have to depend on anyone (especially if it’s Max we’re talking about…he  *did* take his sweet time with that divorce and all.) PJP thinks she should take the job and even offers to watch PJP-ito.
  • Fab and Fer are coming back from therapy. Fab professes his love while Vic eavesdrops and thoughtbubbles “Fabian is in love with Fer.” Fer asks him to forgive her for being so mean before. Fab moves in for a kiss.
  • Max flies into the design room at Casa Bernarda. He is mad as a hornet and yells at Xi about her attempted homicide of Maria Desamparada. Ximena is all “Wha??? Who told you that?” Max says that doesn’t matter, but Xi says it does…if it was Maria who said it. Screaming and yelling. Max is tired of her crazy. Xi goes crazy and throws stuff. Max goes crazy and throws stuff. Other employees start to look on. Xi screams help. She asks Max if he’s going to beat her to death. He asks if she’s crazy (uh…yeah. He might be the dumbest TN galán ever.) Xi tries to bring the audience into this interactive show. “Help me! See how he treats me?” More histrionics and Xi makes her way to the roof. Max follows. As soon as she realizes Max is following, she heads for the edge of the building. Max tries to calm her down.  Shots of Xi, sidewalk, Max; Xi, sidewalk, Max; Xi, sidewalk, Max. She jumps!!! Max runs to catch her (slow down, Max!)
  • Crud! She’s clinging to the side of the building. Max is telling her not to let go and she is blaming him for everything. Rox is below yelling “mi hija” (if Rox really cared she would get her daughter some therapy…didn’t we say the same about Tizzy in STuD?)
  • Cut to Fab and Fer. meh. FF>> (PS: Vic is still eavesdropping)
  • Back to suicide attempt #2(?) Rox somehow got to the roof and is begging Max to save her daughter. Xi says Max just wants to kill her (Xi) because that slut says she (Xi) tried to kill her (Maria) Two guys come to arrest Max? Or at least take him away…
  • Fab and Fer again. I don’t have the patience for this crap FF>>
  • Fab bids adieu to Vic and Vic is pleased that two fine young men love her. I wish she had approved of Max’s choice of mate.
  • The cosmetics people think Maria is even prettier in person. She’ll be perfect for the campaign.
  • Fer is introduced as the new receptionist (wasn’t that Luci’s job?)
  • Vic asks about Max. Toni fills her in. He dropped off Osguito and went off to do something.
  • Burnie is flipping out about Max’s visit. She tells Padilla to get the lawyers. This is the time for vengeance on Maximilano Sandoval. She’s going to take his baby away.
  • El Alacrán arrives and tells Burnie about the previous evening’s desfile by the new Casa Victoria.
  • Meanwhile at Casa Victoria, there are warm fuzzies and pep talks. She gives shares to everyone: Pip, Toni, Oscar, Fab and Luci. woot!
  • Maria at the cosmetics photo shoot. The company men love her. They are going to get her contract ready. Lonso and Maria hug and celebrate after they leave.
  • Vic and Toni reminisce. Vic fills Toni in on Os finding out about PJP being the yo yo yo baby daddy. Toni freaks a little but Vic says maybe now that everything is out in the open, maybe the Santísima Virgen will allow her to finally find her daughter.
  • Maria and Lonso return from the photo shoot. PJP is in seventh heaven watching over the bebé. Lonso informs him that Mariá is the new face of Lovely cosmetics. PJP is happy for her.
  • Os comes to pay a call and is cooly cordial to PJP. Os comes bearing gifts. Lots and lots of gifts.
  • PJP thanks Os and the trouble begins. Os wonders why PJP would thank him, after all the child is his grandson. Maria explains that PJP like Papi to the baby, too. Os finds it odd that PJP feels so obligated to the child what with his sacerdote-ly responsibilities. Os wouldn’t doubt that PJP has a grandchild since he’s …you know…been with a woman before being ordained. María is muy impactada. She asks if PJP was married.
  • PJP says it’s a long story he and Os exchange a few words and they decide to talk outside.
  •  Let the divorce proceeding begin. Xi shows off the bruises again.
  •  Rox joins the fun and asks how Max could have dared to hurt her daughter.
  •  Xi says Max tortured her and ran her out of the house...away from her child.
  • Sr. Juez asks if this is true. Max denies it emphatically. For some reason Padilla is there to stick up for Xi and says she should be reunited with her baby.
  • Max says she doesn't love her child. She left the child on her own accord.
  • Xi says that isn't true! Max kicked her out with threats. He condemned her to not being a mother when he dragged her behind his car.
  • Max says that was an accident. Xi says it was an accident he caused because he wanted to be with his lover and bastard child.
  • Sr. Juez asks if that's true. Max says of course not, but Rox's "Sí Sr. Juez. He does and had a child with her. They've been together since he married my daughter" drowns him out.
  • Again Padilla takes up the case. He brings up Os and Vic...and Vic's being accused of murder. Max attacks Padilla.
  • After order is restored, Sr. Juez decides that the baby should go with Ximena because a child so small needs the care of it's mother and because Max can't control himself. (dumb.ass...Max and the judge)
  • Max arrives at Casa Victoria (with Xi, Rox and the officers of the court) to get baby Osvaldito. Vic reminds Xi she abandoned the baby. Xi says they made her. Fer weighs in. Padilla weighs in. Toni weighs in. The officer of the court (who looks Amish) says the baby must be handed over. Vic balks and asks why. Xi says because he's HER hijo.
  • Max says she's crazy. Xi says she's not crazy. She is the mother and has the right to her child.
  • Vic will have to hand over the bebé.

What fast work!

I expected Osvaldo to take this a little more calmly, but I guess he's too close to the situation. The avances tell us that Max is the one to figure this out and confront Dona Dementa. I wonder if he will be the one to tell Victoria.

I knew it was too early for Ximeana to die. This little stunt with the bruises has just pushed Ximeana into a lower ring of hell and Gui will be there with her.

I am always astonished at how nobody can keep a cool head in a crisis in these stories.

More tomorrow; I need to catch a few zzzz's.

Sara, I thought your recap was just fine. No need for apologies. I found lots to make me smile, for example: "After that night he went off and did his priest thang."

This is turning into a crazy square dance, where the couples whirl around, then change partners, then move on and whirl around again. Max is acting disturbingly bone-headed and Xi is crazy like a fox. Grit teeth, tighten beanie, keep watching. Watch bits of Teresa for a change of pace.
La Paloma

Very entertaining. "...went off and did his priest thang," "yo yo yo baby daddy." That Padre Hottie sure is one cool hepcat.

Okay, how long will it take for either Victoria or Osvaldo to talk to Max about vital information and assemble the pieces? A month?

I liked seeing this recap before I watched it. It was much easier to understand what was being said & learning some new vocabulary!

I'd like to know WHY Max hasn't told Maria that JPJ is her father?!?!?!?!? Max hasn't lived up to any of his responsibilities! I'm glad Alonso has told him some "home truths!" Max needs someone to put him in his place.

The bits of Teresa I've seen in avances ....she has the quality of either looking really good or really ugly. Some of the expessions! Why is she after the guy from the barrio when the professor is so enamorado of her?

Something just occurred to me as I was making coffee: Guillermo could come forward as the bio-dad of little Osvaldito to take him away. He knows that Ximeana is mental and this would be his last revenge against Osvaldo. Ximeana wouldn't care, as she has had her revenge against Max.

Sara, gentle recapper—no te preocupes! This was a fabulous recap. Couldn't have asked for better. Despite the "bullet point" appearance, it was full of great descriptions and suspense: "is Gui going to eat the baby?" I think impulse control is a big problem for these folks. And Max's good-looks seem to have affected his brains (not for the better). Unfortunately, it gives the mentally-ill a bad reputation. Ximena is off her rocker, but she's more evil than nutz.

And how in heaven's name did Pablo Montero get such a singing career if he can not carry a tune?

Sara - Well done! and thank you. No apologies needed for this recap - it is excellent.

Mi riqueza es este overused song.
LOL Sara!

CC says "nuco l uó e amr" Helpful, isn't it?
Looneyvision was really on their game last night. Better than usual.

Ha. They never showed us the part where Max haul's Xi up over the side of the building. Too bad he didn't get an arm cramp and drop her.

Max is The Stupidest Galán.
IMO, the role of MD is miscast. Perfect role for Adela Noriega, but MP has more spirit & backbone. She isn't doing imbécil very well. Fer/Cruz are the only two worth watching.

Anyone who does a recap on this wonderful site should never apologize. What an amazing job you did, Sara.

I have to tell you I had deja vu night, when Os was doing all that preaching about Vic and Priest Suavo, I had flashbacks. When Os was on El Juramento he used to make these same speeches to the woman who played his wife. The wife in that story was innocent and he was the one fooling around! (It's an earlier, slightly different version of Cuando Me Enamaro) Ouch, hated every moment of those scenes, but I was pleasantly surprised when Priest Suavo quickly interrupted. I hope there is never another scene like that and to be frank good for Vic to remind him of his infidelity.

I'm completely bored with the Ximena storyline, she's boring as a nutcase. I would rather stay focused on Grandma Demente, she knows how to captivate.

as for Max, can you like snap out of it and get some cojones.

Will there be a day when Maria too will show us her muscle, or will she play victim til the end?

You are so so funny. No apologies needed. My favorite line: "I don't have the patience for this crap ..FF>"

LXV: Look at this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAQ_CG4B1ns&feature=fvsr

I don't know why Pablo allows Mejia to have him sing off key on purpose or not correct something; he doesn't have 10 CDs out there just because he's gorgeous.

Attention, ladies: In most of these videos he is clean-shaven and has the right hair and wardrobe!

As to whether Maria will ever really grow a spine, remember who is producing this version. In EPDA (produced by Carla Estrada) Christina had more backbone. The only times she ever came close to falling apart was when she found out who her parents were.

Sara, I think this is great. Good luck with the teacher thang.

"I’m really scared…is Gui going to eat the baby? Whew. Just a kiss. "

Excellent.

I'm really in a snit over the guys in this...

Ozzy: you certainly showed your butt last night... it's really not all about you

Max: take a day off and get it together... you're coming apart at the seams

Alonzo: move on, buddy... no Tenura for you

Padre: open up with what you know...
I don't think you have a chance of being the next Pope anyway

Cruz: you're actually doing a pretty good job... learn another song

Fab: I think that Fer prefers cowboys, take another look at Naty... actually, Luci seems to like you

JuanJo: ummm... next!

Señor Alacrán: why don't you just crawl back under that rock over there

Padilla: I thought we killed you off in Corazón Salvaje

Gui: actually you amuse me... carry on

Carlos

Sara: Great Recap.

Urban Anthro: I went to the website and have to agree that Pablo Montero looked and sounded a lot better than he does in the TN.

As far as Maria D goes - through the mouth of Alonso she is being painted as a saint. She is kind, gentle and generous and never seeks any kind of revenge - even if her life is threatened. You can gag on that.

@UA: Gua-ua-ua-u! I do wish Cruz would shave. that was pretty perfect, but I think he needs a lot of studio support to keep his intonation on track. How does he do in a live performance? It's hard to find clips that aren't lip-synched onto a studio track.

lxv: Trust me; he can. I've heard him live four times.

Max hasn't found out yet that JP is Maria's father. I think he finds out tonight. If he tells her I hope he has a talk with JP first to prepare him for the inevitable epic fallout.

Which raises another issue: Shouldn't the nuns at the orphanage have told Maria that anything could have happened to her parents as they would have had no way of knowing why she was wandering the streets? Actually, that would have cut the series by about 20 episodes.

I thought JP told Max he was Maria's father when Max caught them hugging and slammed JP against the wall. Wasn't sure how he got away with that breech of confessional secret but then JP plays pretty fast and loose with Catholic priest standards. For example, apparently pre- or extra-marital relations are just fine if you're young and "innocent" or if you're really in love with the person. I like him and think he's a great priest but I wonder how the church patriarchy would feel about what he preaches.

Totally agree that the nuns should have encouraged Maria not to make assumptions. THEY have no idea what happened to Maria's parents. Why does she assume she was just abandoned on the street? Why does she assume it was her mother who did this, and not her father or someone else? It's like she's spent her whole life concocting some tragic fairy tale in her mind, and has convinced herself that her imaginary version must be true.

Sara no apologies needed great job from you as always.

Is Os for real after his cheating please talk to the hand. Instead of coming by Maria D.'s hovel with baby toys how about some paint or hey how about a new apartment in a better neighborhood.

SO let me get this straight Victoria can accept Cruz courting Fer but Max can't be with Maria D.? Someone remind me again is this woman sane?

Urban, Max knows PJP is Maria D.'s real father he told him when Max went ballistic thinking he had a thing for his woman.

Max how about bringing up crazy homicide attempt against Maria D.? Or her trying to jump from your car or her booze and pills consumption during her pregnancy?

Blus, I think that Os had good reason to act the way he did. Granted he fooled around on his wife; however, Padre is a sacerdote. To let Os confess and talk to him in confidence about his wife (Padre's x-lover for one night) and his girlfriend, when all along, Padre had been with his wife. I find this revolting and embarrassing, which Os must of felt, plus betrayel that Os is so upset about what he did to his wife and yet Padre was with his wife at one time. Also rightous Padre was able to be with his daughter, when she gave birth, spend time with her and the baby, all the things a mom dreams of doing with the daughter and he never told Victoria, so she could share in her daughter's first child. I think Padre needs to pay dearly for keeping his mouth shut. One more thing, by keeping his mouth shut, it caused a lot of anguish for Maria, since vic treated her so badly. This did not need to happen.

SSorry i disagree with you Anon but i don't feel Os has a right to act so sanctimonious over finding out PJP is Victoria's first child's father. I agree he does have a right to be sort of angry with all of his personal and private affairs to PJP but you seem to be absolving Victoria of her share of blame in all of this.

First she could have told Os about her first daughter and who the father was a long time ago.

Second her treatment of Maria D. long before PJP found out who their daughter was Victoria has been down right nasty and evil herself towards Maria D. so that excuse is not washing with me.

Third if she can't see the similarities between herself and Maria D. that's her own fault and she even commented to Toni before how much Maria D. reminded her of herself. WHne PJP found out Maria D. was his daughter his mother used the confessional to bind him and keep him from telling her the truth. But he has hinted to dumb Victoria in every way possible that her daughter is near her.

Finally even if Victoria couldn't be there for Maria D. as her biological mother she most definitely could have been there as her mother in law but because of her uncharitable and stupid uncalled for behavior towards Maria D.it is Victoria's fault along with crazy Bernie on why she can't be with her missing daughter.

So Victoria gets no break from me.

Julia: You're right. I don't know how that slipped my mind but I did see that episode. I guess that can happen when one watches 8 novelas while unemployed.

All that needs to happen now is for Max to find out that JP is the father of Victoria's missing daughter. Wanna guess whom he talks to first?

I agree that JP should have told Osvaldo that he had been Victoria's first love. He may have felt that this was Victoria's right to share -- or not -- but I also feel that Victoria should have told him long before this. They might have found Maria but -- por supuesto -- there wouldn't be a novela if they had.

In EPDA by this point in the story Victor Manuel knew that Padre Juan was the father of Luciana's lost daughter. However, he didn't have the other piece of the puzzle.

Wow, what great comments from Carlos and Blusamurai. This is wonderful all this makes you think, it keeps the excitment going on these TN's.

One more thing (I feel like Columbo saying that):

JP's description of his sexual encounter with Victoria reveals his awareness that Dona Dementa doesn't love him. I wonder when he finally realized that or if he had been running away from that truth his entire life.

Urban excellent points today i so loved EPDA and i totally agree the Cristina part which is the Maria D. role in this was so much better i do not like how Mejia has made her a accepting mistress to Max or not to take seriously the threat XXX-factor poses not only for her safety but her son.She had decided to move on from Victor Manuel(the Max role) to try a relationship with the Alonso character and she wasn't a doormat in that version as she is in this one.

As for the Victoria role i loved Helena Rojo as Luciana even though her actions were the same she seem a lot more sympathetic and i enjoyed how Helena Rojo played her maybe i think her part was written better. But i am just not feeling Victoria Ruffo in this role she comes off as overacting in some scenes and too much crying and heaving sobs in others that reacquire a mute button.Although i do have to admit when she got locked up for LindaHo's murder the other day her look at Os was priceless and perfect it conveyed everything that the scene needed without words.Too little of that from her though.

Urban sadly i believe PJP is realizing his role and purpose in Dona Dementa's life.

I can't wait to see Max confront Dona Dementa. He's never been afraid of her so this should be cool.

Since I'm going to the opera tonight I may not see this until tomorrow morning.

Sara, thank you for the great recap, I really appreciate it.

Is BSCX going to take the baby to Burnie's house? I can see that going over like a lead balloon.

Poor Fer, decisions, decisions! She has really turned around and has become delightful.

Owning most of Pablo's (Cruz) albums, I am positive that they are deliberately having him sing off key. After all, he is supposed to be from the rural area of Mexico with no prospects to speak of.

Rosemary

Well done.....i think how ever you recappers do a recapp....its your style and any style is alright with me...........love them all...........i am still not on board with Alonzo.....i feel he is too nice...too all in Maria's face and the bebe references "the bebe" the way he says it makes me ill......if maria goes to his side of the fence i will be upset.....she knows Max loves her...yes sure he married the Loca but he did not want too......that was clear from the beginning.....and really have not had enough trials and tribulations for a tela novela....Fer and cruz.....they need to get lovey dovey too....I am so done with Jimena........she needs to fall off some building........Victoria and Osvaldo.....i think what happened b4 they got married is her business.......yeah it would be nice if she told him....but it should not be so much drama for him it was b4 him.........BNinCA

@BinCa: ITA with you about: "the bebe" the way he says it makes me ill" a mi tambien.

and Rosemary & Urban: I've only found Cruz singing live here but to me it's proof positive he's as good as you all say he is. I just wish there were more examples. I'm not a fan of heavily-produced music videos. I like to see singers singing.

Urban - I don't understand your comment about Padre knowing his mom doesn't love him, by the way he spoke to vic and oz?? I was not aware of this; however my spanish is not good and I miss a lot. Please explain to me.

If Os is upset about Vic's previous life, just wait until Vic and Max find out that Max's mother is still alive! It is not going to be a pretty sight.

Rosemary

Thanks everyone!

I feel the need to write a list.

Red Herrings so far
*Fab and Nati
*Dead JuanJo
*Leonela (I consider her a red herring until she shows up.)
*Maria Magdalena
*Luciano Ferreti (see Leonela)
*Toni and Oscar
*Oh crap I can't remember her name! The chick Gui killed. Will her husband ever start asking about her?

Thank you Sara -- just when I was feeling all listless:) And thanks for the witty recap!

I'd say many of those listed are cabos sueltos rather than red herrings. Except Juanjo -- definitely fishy and stinky.

Her name was Ofelia -- easy to forget because it wasn't the right name for her character. Gertrude? Nah.

The way things are going, I'm afraid Fab and Nati will be a red herring. I can just see the Mexican audience wanting a novia for el Cuau. Wasn't it viewer polls that resurrected him?

Sara, you may be right, alas.

Can't JuanJo just waltz off into the sunset with both the trashy jarochas?

LMAO, Julia!

Sara thanks for this great recap. As others have noted, no need to apologize.

Carlos - loved your list!

Julia - yes have JJ go off into the sunset with the Jarochas.

Thank you Sara and good luck wrapping up the semester. Crazy time for all of us involved in school in one way or another.

We seem to have reached an impasse. Lots of evil complications and alliances without anyone advancing forward much. We'll see if tonight is as impactante as advertised.

I honestly think that all Juan Pablo means to Dona Dementa is the road to her own salvation. She never gave the least consideration to the possibility that he wouldn't be suited for the priesthood or that he might have wanted to be a doctor instead. The idea of him having normal relationships with other people -- especially women -- was repugnant to her.

It was always about what she wanted.

There is no hint in any of their interactions that she feels anything for him beyond this. She is a narcissist of the most dangerous kind and they love no one.
