Cuando Me Enamoro #5 Tuesday 4/26/11 My first episode and it's a killer!!
Tonight is my debut, as a recapper, and it looks like I got a doozie. I am going to jump in and do the best I can so bear with me, and please feel free to add anything I missed. Once I get the swing of this I am sure they will get better, so let’s get to the good stuff!!
Continuing from last night Matias arrives to the Villa and is greeted warmly by his Aunt and Uncle, Fina however is less than cuddly, however she does attempt to be nice, and asks him to be less formal, to which he reminds her that he was not allowed to be informal with her growing up. She welcomes him and as everyone moves toward the dining room she is heading up the stairs, and pauses to silently remind him that this is her house.
Jeronimo and Regina are having coffee and she is telling him about the computer generated picture of what her daughter would actually look like today. Jeronimo tells her she is beautiful like her mother, and that he wants to see it. He is interrupted by a phone call from a very anxious Rafael. He is calling to tell him the plans have changed and that he is leaving tomorrow for Mexico.
Fina is yelling at Roberta to get up and get downstairs, she refuses and say’s she is not moving. Fina continues to rant that it’s important that Gonzalo wants everyone together tonight, but Roberta is going to the play the poor heart card and stomps off!!
Fina comes downstairs to find Renta alone and getting something from her purse and can’t resist the chance to somehow make this all her fault. So she proceeds to accuse her of getting friendly with another of Roberta’s guys and she drops reminds her that she is a slut, just in time for Matias to join walk in the room and defend Renata.
Jeronimo is trying to reach Rafael before she goes to sleep and as he puts his phone on the night stand he opens the drawer to find the bracelet that Renata dropped as she ran him over and he smiles as Enrique sings and he remembers the accident at the airport.
Renata tries to squash the conversation by saying she called her stupid and not a slut, but he’s not buying it and puts mom in her place. Auntie and Uncle are leaving so hugs all around and welcome homes. The Fina tries her sweet mother act and refers to Matias as son and he quickly in front of everyone puts her in her place and asks that she not call him that. He explains to papa that he already had a mom. Matias apologizes, and she tells him he doesn’t know how happy she is that he returned to Mexico, he is very special and she is very happy to have him here,which apparently made her nervous, because she immediately grabbed her coat and yelled goodbye as she bolted up the stairs.
Sneaky Fina has snuck into Roberta’s room while she sleeps and takes her phone.
Renata is laying on her bed giggly and gets a IM ping from her bestest amiga. Who wants to know how things went with Matias? Very typical girl talk about ho handsome he is and how great he is, then she mentions the handsome stranger she ran into literally at the airport and the music swells and Enrique starts singing and we get a dreamy flashback of her encounter with Jeronimo. She doesn’t know who he is, but he had great eyes. A little more girl talk and then they sign off and her phone goes off, she answers and tries to figure out who is calling.
Gonzalo is working as Fina comes into the bedroom, she was checking on Roberta and telling him the medications are working thank God. Gonzalo feels bad for her and he wants to protect her, Fina thinks that she is glad he doesn’t know that the real one with the heart problem is Renata. She say’s she’s tired and is retiring, but wants to know if she was happy with Matias welcome home party, and he thanks her and tells her to be patient and give it time he will come around.
Renata is on the phone with a very upset Rafael, who has been drinking and is going on about how he and Renata are friends and that he is man who is very bad, and he mentions that this is nothing like before, Renata is concerned and wants to know what he wants and he say’s just for her to understand, and she swears that she will do whatever she wants and won’t tell anyone anything.
Fina is complaining that Matias hates her and Gonzalo insists that he does not. She knows that he has illusions of a happy family and she agrees that like her said over time things will be good. She then gives a scary smile and blows a kiss as she goes to change.
Matias finds Roberta in the dining room having breakfast and they hug and talk about how much both her and Renata have changed. Papa comes down stairs gives his son a big hug and checks that Roberta is feeling better and goes to eat breakfast.
Rafael who seems to be feeling much better is giving documents to be signed to his worker also gives him money to get the paint for the hacienda and gives money to Mathilda for get flowers for all over the hacienda.
Back at the breakfast table Matias asks about Renata and Roberta tells him that she left early, but Gonzalo steps in and tells her that she didn’t take her car she is probably with the horses and begins to praise Renata, Roberta tries again to keep Renata out of the conversation and tells him she has to work, But Dad unaware that she is trying to keep him away from Renata tells him that she doesn’t need to worry about work. Roberta is obviously mad, that Matias took off looking for Renata.
Fina is at the airport renting a car for the day to go to the Hacienda, that can’t be good, i’m sure she is not delivering a fruit basket. She asks for directions.
Matias scares Renata as she is looking for something in her car. He wants to know what she is looking for and she explains that she is looking for the bracelet, and he realizes that is really is important to her this gives him a big smile!!
Matias and Renata are riding together, and laughing he asks her to get together later and she tells him she can’t cause she is having dinner with her friend, he asks if it’s a friend or boyfriend she tells him she has no boyfriend, he then asks about Rafael and she tells him they are just friends, but she is going to take him to dinner to introduce him to her girlfriends, he says no he wants it to be just the two of them alone. Matais’s phone rings and it’s Jeronimo on the other end they are excited that they are in Mexico at the same time, Jero asks if he is busy and he says he is with his sister who he can’t stand, he is ugly and a witch as she listens and plays at being mad. They chat and Jero say’s he will be staying indefinitely they say goodbye and Matia’s hangs up and Renata gives him a hard time about calling her ugly, and then a gigantic arrangement of roses arrive for Renata, when she read the card she realizes that they are from Diego. Matias teases her about all her boyfriends.
Rafael is surprised to have a visitor, it’s Fina!!
Roberta is yelling at the help, asking her what is wrong with her cell phone, she knows she knows something and she better tell her. The help knows nothing so she yells at her to get out!!
Rafael and Fina are arguing over Roberta. He swears that she loves him. She accuses him of wanting Roberta only for the fortune that she will inherit from her fathers company, he say’s he doesn’t care about the money and he will prove it. Fina pulls out a letter to try to sow him that Roberta does not love him, he crumples it up and tells her she doesn’t believe her anyone can write a letter. he is sure she loves him. Fina says if you don’t believe the letter then ask her. He calls her and gets her voicemail and Fina tells him she doesn’t want to talk to him. Now we see why she stole the phone sneaky!! He still does not believe her so she smuggly grabs her phone punches some buttons and suddenly he is listening to the conversation between Roberta and her friend, he hears her say she might not love him, but he will get her away from her mom and out from under her sisters shadow. Fina asks him now to believe, and that he will never be involved with her family. Rafael call to speak to Gonzalo at work tells him it is very important, and is he is not available then he needs to speak to Renata, it is very important. Fina grabs for the phone and a struggle ensues. Fina grabs a gun.
The secretary tells Renata who is standing in the lobby that she has a phone call, she says hello several times and gets no answer!!
Fina has a gun on Rafael and tells him he will never tell anyone anything, he yells that he will make sure that Gonzalo and asks if she is going to kill him, she yells that he will die like a dog, Rafael yells that neither she nor anybody else will intimidate him. He tries to grab the gun and they struggle and the gun goes off.
Renata is asking the secretary who it was that called and she said she did not know, she did not get the name. Renata asks her in the future to make sure she gets a name and asks if she recognized the voice. Then tells her if he calls back call her cell.
Rafael falls back and we see that he has been shot and then he falls over dead, leaving Fina shocked and rambling that nobody will blame her it was for her daughter. She goes to leave but turns around and starts thinking.
Gonzalo is presenting his son with a very fancy very expensive sports car, he asks Renata to go for a ride with him.
Fina is hunched over Rafael wiping her fingerprints off the gun she then places the gun in his hand, trying to make it look like a suicide.
We move to Regina’s office (to many R names WHEEEEW) Constanza comes in and tells her that she is interested in what they do, Regina tells her that what they do is very important.
A truck pulls up, to the hacienda and we see Fina wiping down everything. Then someone comes in looking for Rafael and Fina is stuck.
Regina is giving Constanza a tour explaining all the work that they do there to help out the children.
Fina waits for the man to leave after he realizes no one is home he writes a note to Rafael and leaves. She realizes she is safe and breathes a sigh of relief.
Constanza finishes her tour as they tell her that they need help in the kitchen and she offers to volunteer to help in the kitchen. Jeronimo shows up and is introduced to Constanza and they figure out that she is Matia’s Aunt.
The car ride went great and there are hugs around, Renata calls to see if the mysterious caller ever called back or is she knows who it was.
Jeronimo is making a donation to Regina’s foundation and she is asking how he know’s Constanza nephew. He explains that they knew each other in Spain, when Matias was taking classes and they became very good friends. He then asks about Constanza and Regina explains that she is very nice and that you would never guess she was rich. Then she explains that the company they own does imports and exports. Jero remembers Rafael talking about an export company and asks if they export wines. She confirms they export wine to all parts of the world. Jero giggle that he never imagined that his brother would work for such big company.
Renata is in her office talking to her girlfriend she asks her about Matias and she tells her it is a love that is impossible, so she asks what’s bothering her if not that. Renata say she is very concerned about Rafael. She is not sure why but she is concerned over the mysterious phone call she received it’s just really odd. He was acting odd and that she was just not sure about what was going on. They quickly switch gears and start talking about Matias and laughing and then the conversation switches to her hunky airport guy, and they talk about how the encounter was very intense.
Roberta is at a cellular store yelling at the clerk, she wants her phone fixed so she can get her calls and contacts and talk to Rafael, she can’t figure out why her phone was working fine when she went to bed? hmmmm ask your mom?
Fina flashes back and we see her dunking a phone in a sink full of water, then drying it off and putting it back on Roberta’s end table.
WHEEEEW that was a crazy first episode, but I got through it!!
Unfortunately, I lost the last minute and the previews. I know that I missed things, so please feel free to fix anything I am learning and welcome any and all comments and help thank you so much!!!

"Fina's probably not delivering a fruit basket" LOL! I guess we're going to have to start a body count. It's only the fifth episode and we already have two deaths to blame on Fina. Agustin narrowly caught her but, of course, he didn't or this show would be over in a week!
It cracked me up when Jero opened his beside drawer and it started singing the theme song like a music box. Too funny!
And what do you know, Jero is already meeting the family and he doesn't even know the girl yet! So far he knows Renata's real mother, her stepbrother, and now her aunt. I love what a small world it is in TNs. :)

some things I remember...
When Jero got the phone call from a very anxious Rafael, rafa asked him to meet him at a certain restaurant the next night, where he would explain everything...
Also when Rafa talked to Renata and he was really anxious, he asked her to meet him somewhere too (we don't hear the details, we only see her face and her agreeing to it, my guess is the same place, that is why we have an encounter between Renata and Jero outside the rest, she seems to be running away form some guys who were following her so she kisses Jero (wow, what an excuse!) and then has to appologize... again!
When Matias meets Renata in her car, it is when she tells him that the bracelet is important, he asks her why it is so important and she responds 'because you gave it to me' (she immediately realizes this could be revealing her 'platonic' love so she gets inside the car immediately) and then is when we see that wonderful Jose Ron smile.
When Rafa has Fina there and tries to call Gonzalo and then asks to talk to Renata, when the receptionist is telling Renata that she has an urgent call, that is when Rafa says his name but she does not have the phone up to her ear, so I guess she will not remember the name he said...
(I was wondering if she would remember the name later but when I rewatched and realized she did not have the phone up to her ear when he said his name, I thought 'darn!')
When Jero was with Regina I, and looked at the info about the Monterrubio company with her, he realized that Rafael had been workign at a company that belonged to Matias' family.
Also, Constanza and her husband (weird name, sort of like Hermigio) were looking for a charity to give to in the name of the company this year and she got interested in Regina's charity 'La esperanza de Regina' and that is where she makes the connection and shows up there and ends up volunteering to teach cooking to the disadvantaged pregnant women.

Congratulations Jules! Ditto what Flores says, we're very lucky to have you on the team. This was your first recap ever? Nice job. Great title with a clever double-entendre. I see many wonderful recaps in your future.

I don't know what happened to the comment I posted earlier today. But I want to ditto what everyone has said. Jules, it was a great recap -- and pretty darn complete -- and just snarky enough. I too loved the "Fina probably isn't here to deliver a fruit basket" line and the theme song which starts up whenever Jero opens his drawer.
I think that not only is everyone else going to blame Renata for driving Rafa to suicide -- but she may even blame herself. No one but Roberta & Fina know anything about Roberta's relationship with Rafa -- but lots of people have either heard her name when he was on the phone or seen them hugging in the office. guera, not only that but the one that was supposed to elope with Rafa was Roberta but he arranged a meeting with Renata and of this none other than Jeronimo will be witness to, since they are also supposed to meet at same place. I bet both Roberta and Fina will use this mixup to point fingers at Renata as Rafa's secret mistress.
I am still wondering why Roberta has a 'R' pendant and Rafa had the other one... and Renata has none. That will also feed the fire against Renata.

Thanks everyone for your wonderful comments! As this was my first attempt at a re-cap I was nervous, but I loved it and I can't wait till next week. I also really appreciate your helping fill in the blanks, I am sure I will miss some more stuff along the way, But it's nice to know that i'm covered. Thanks

Thank you, Jules and welcome! You Recappers are a treasure. You DID get a doozie of an episode. It seemed the camera made a point of lingering on the work station of the Secretary that took Rafa's call. Somehow I hoping their might be a recording of the call that can surface later. Fina is a bold broad, isn't she? Rafa is just getting started so I guess he doesn't have much house staff hence no one around to see Fina or hear the gunshot?! Darn! She's surely set to wreak havoc up until the last episode!

Martaivett, Rafael had an R pendant? I thought that there were 2... Roberto gave one to Regina and one to Regina Jr (now Renata). I'm guessing that Pepafina took that one away from Renata (as she did the heart problem... hmmmm) and gave it to Roberta. So now I'm confused...
I was thinking that Regina will eventually discover the two girls and think that Roberta is her real daughter because of the pendant and heart problem...

Maybe I saw the pendant on Roberta BEFORE she went to meet Rafa and left it on his bed... anyway... I doubt Jeronimo will flash the pendant around when he gets it to try to identify who it belongs to... so i guess we won't have the two pin subplot we had in the original. Since REgina I has the other one.

I am sooooo tired of novela scenes where the person at whom someone has pointed a gun grabs the gun. I mean any law enforcement officer will say that that is the worst possible thing to do.
Well, at least this time, the female villain didn't try to poison her target. How refreshing.

I am really warming up to Matias quickly... so far he has stood up to dear step mother and stepped up to defend Renata to her... hopefully he will not fall off the pedestal of the nice guys when Jeronimo joins the race for Renata... But so far I love his guts and his smile... finally! a new guy in town who can act!!
