Cuando Me Enamoro #23 Monday 5/23/11 All About Matters of the Heart or Doctor, Doctor Give Me the News

Amigos mios, I apologize for abandoning my obligation Monday night but unexpected plan changes from my out of town guests and an old TV and VCR choosing to betray me at that same moment made life harried. BUT, our wonderful Cap'n Sylvia came to the resscue and here is her recap below: I am of course so grateful, as I am sure you are. CherylNewMex:

Here is the first half:

Fina slaps Rob and tells her she’s on board with Rob getting rid of the escuincle. Mom says Rob is a complete dumbass and from now on Rob had better do exactly what mommy dearest says or else. Renata overhears them talking about how much they hate Gonzo and Renata who is just like him.

Dr D has midnight fantasies about the bodacious Alfonsina.

Renata waits for Fina in her bedroom because she brought dinner up for her sick/slashed mom. Nata asks if everything is OK with Rob and mom says she never has any problems with Roberta. Nata finally leaves and Fina gives her an epic stink eye.

Lots of crying between Ines and Regina over Andrecito having leukemia. Regina tells Ines to hang tough and they will all stand by her side.

Nata tells Adriana that Matias needs a good woman, someone like Adri for example.

Antonio goes to a joyeria to purchase a special ring. He seems impacted by the fetching saleswoman, but then later he tells the air that both his and Regina’s lives are about to change.

Augie brings a huge bouquet of flowers to Nata at work and asks her out to lunch. Somebody watches her get into her car. As she drives to lunch a big white SUV cuts her off and Jero steps out of the car. He doesn’t look happy like “oh my love I cancelled my trip for you”, instead he looks pithed off.

After the commercial he looks happier. Sez he couldn’t get her out of his mind, she changed his life. She: Roberta is my sister. He: Matias is my friend. They kiss, not terribly thrilling but it was sweet. He sez he’ll call her and he drives off. Gosh she looks happy.

Sele and Rob are guess where? I’m not even gonna say it. Rob bitches about having to have an ECG before her procedure. Rob still can’t seem to forget Rafa, boo hoo.

Honorio and Adri have a special bonding moment at work, then he shows her a sketch of the guy who rented the helicopter. Does she recognize him? Yep, it’s Diego! Adri fills Don H in on the background of Diego and Nata, basically she never led him on and he's a creep.

Speaking of which, Diego the Dud has joined Rob at The Club and they snicker a lot about everyone thinking Nata is a slut.

Augie is getting impatient and he calls Nata at work. She finally shows up and I just noticed her blouse is very sexy. He has more flowers for her, also some good wine, but she’s preoccupied. He wonders what’s up?

Part two will come later unless someone else does it.

OK here is part two:

Jero visits Regina and wonders why she’s holding her side. He tells her he came back because he wanted to take care of Rafa’s biz. Gina calls bulls**t on him and he admits he came back for Nata. Love or hate? Love he sez. Toldja so she sez.

Matias frets about Nata so Gonzo sez he’ll call her. OMG, she has such good manners; her phone rings and she asks Augie if he minds if she answers, it’s dad. Nata blabs that mom cut herself in a kitchen accident (hee) and then she asks about Matias. Dad sez he and Mat love her.

Nata tells Augie that she dumped Mat because she met someone else. I’ll bet Augie thinks he’s the one, LOL. He excuses himself to make a call and she texts Jero to meet her at 9:00 that night.

A present arrives for Regina. It’s a box with a ring, then Tony walks in, he wants her by his side for life. Is she up for it? Oops, her look says no. She tells him she can’t accept it, she’s not ready. He tells her just accept it as a ring then, signifying the possibility that they could “be”. Sounds lame to me.

Alfonsina is in the vineyard giving a pruning tutorial. I think she says something like only women are capable of pruning the vines gently. Dr D shows up to leer at her bodacious ta-tas. She tells him she wants Matilde and Lazaro to stay at la Bonita. He looks all put out but since he’s totally kitty-whipped I imagine he’ll put in a good word to Augie for them.

Yep, sho nuff Regina agrees to keep the ring. She gives Tony a platonic peck.

Fina takes a pistol out of the family safe and thought bubbles that she failed the first time but now she’s going to send Gina to the tomb.

We get some great overhead shots of Ensenada and then FrankenDoc runs into his house to tell Kari that because she asked he’s decided to keep Lazaro and Matilde at La Bonita. In fact she can tell them personally. Just one thing, she’s got to make it clear he’s the new boss and they have to respect him. I didn’t think I could hate that jerk any more than I did but I do.

Augie tells Nata he doesn’t have a lot of friends but he sure likes her. She sez she’s got one friend, Adriana, and now Augie too. What an odd conversation.

Isidro and Inez visit the doctor about Andresito. Something about a bone marrow transplant I think.

Jero recalls the passion that is Renata. He’s kind of a dud though. Where’s the passion dude?

Fina calls some doctor and unfortunately Tivo cut off the rest so I don’t know what happened. Did anyone else get it?

Yeah and I'm perplexed. It seems that Roberta's ECG shows a heart anomaly. Fina muses that Roberta has the same defect as Renata. And here I thought that one day the discovery that it is Renata who has the heart defect was going to be some big discovery of her true identity. Now I wonder why they gave the same thing to Roberta.

One thing from the early scene. When Fina & Roberta were arguing over the pregnancy Fina told Roberta that Renata looks too much like their father who "abandoned" them (with a little push from Pepa/Fina) and that is why she has always hated Renata. That is sthe part of the conversation that Renata overhead.

Great job Sylvia. You caught all the good stuff. Guera is right that Fina was comparing Renata to her father Roberto, and then Renata relaized that is why her "mother" has always hated her so much- because she looks like and reminds her of the man who knocked her up and abandoned her with two babies.

Augie for sure thought Renata was talking about him. Boy is he in for a surprise when he finds it's non other than Jero. He's going to blow his silvery top.

I'm so glad that Honorio found out Diego was behind the prank. What a great uncle! Gonzo needs to get off his butt and start helping his kids out more. I wonder if they'll really let Roberta go through with the pregnancy? It has always seemed to me that at some point Fina would try to pass Roberta off as Regina Jr./Renata to get the inheritance. I thought she would try to use the 'R' necklace as proof, but not it seems they have another tool they can use- the fact that Roberta also has a heart defect. Hmmmmm....

By the way, Augie and Renata looked pretty good together walking out of the restaurant, and he gave her a bouquet with grapes! How cool is that. I know, I know...he's bad. But I wouldn't mind being courted by him.

Thanks Sylvia, nicely done.

Once again, I wasn't paying close attention, but I thought that Jerry told Regina that love and hate kept him there. I think she hoped that it was love because both love and hate lead to strong reactions. Of course, I. Don't. Like. Jerry. so my interpretation could be biased.

Just when I thought we had a level-headed pretty to root for, Renata goes and gives Augie a totally wrong impression of her feelings for him. If she can't pick up on what he is thinking, then she is just not paying attention. Of course he is playing it subtle and coy by only giving her 2 bouquets of flowers, a bottle of wine, inviting her to come stay with him during the wine festival, opening a bottle of his best wine at the restaurant, drooling like a boar in rut whenever he looks at her... I guess because he didn't grab her and force his tongue in her mouth she thinks that he just wants to be friends.

My TIVO cut off during Fina's conversation with the Dr. but what I caught confused me because he told her that because of an abnormality in Roberta's ECG, as Güera points out, he wants a cardiologist present during the procedure.???

Looks like Alfonsina is well aware of the effect she has on Dr. Nesme, but at least she's using it for good (for now).

Old Tony just doesn't take no for an answer. She can always give the ring back if she doesn't fall in love with him. Uhhh... sure.

I'm betting that Roberta does not go through with the abortion. I've never seen a woman (good or bad) actually go through with an abortion during a TN... histories of abortions... yes... but no abortions during the show.

Carlos

Thanks Guera, Vivi and Carlos for filling in the blanks and the corrections/additions. Yep, that makes much more sense about Renata reminding Fina of the guy who knocked her up and dumped her. What earned Roberta the slap earlier was that she said Fina's not the one to talk to Rob about getting pregnant because the same thing happened to her. Fina said her situation was totally different. I thought well at least Rob's guy loved her, that's about the only difference. And then imagine telling one daughter that you don't like the other daughter because she's like dad. Yikes!

Oh, and I forgot to nominate a Mr. Inappropriate. How about the doc for his acquiescing to Alfonsina's request and then making his wife believe it's because of her? And then using it as a way to lord himself over the peons when he's not even the lord of the manner.

I was going to nominate Tony for his insipid proposal but I think Dr D beats him.

Make that "manor". He ain't no lord of the manner either though.

Thanks all for the recap posts. I am so enjoying this TN! I was even able to keep up with it while traveling.

I thought Mr. Inappropriate was definitely Antonio for basically forcing Regina to accept his ring. How boorish. Dude - she's just not that into you, and not only that you are way jumping the gun by giving her a ring symbolizing ANY kind of compromiso so early in the relationship. And then not allowing her to decline it? How tacky. Jeez.

This TN seems to have some seriously needy men who think if they beg enough and push enough the woman will fall in love with them. Matías is the other case. At least he finally accepted the break with Renata (but then still followed with an inappropriate "force" of his own!!!).

But - wow - the way Jero cut Renata off in his SUV - that blew my mind. I was expecting him to leap out and also bite Renata's head off or at least scold her about something miniscule or make dark insinuations. But instead we got a poignant, very romantic encounter. Totally unexpected. Hot!

Ooooh - I can't wait to see how Matías and Roberta react when they "catch" Renata and Jero at La Mentirosa. What kind of claim can either of them think to demand? They have no cause to complain. Renata made a break, and Jero never committed to Roberta.

If Roberta doesn't go through with the abortion, it will be because she wants to trap someone - and it won't be Matías IMO.

And Fina with a gun.....

Audrey

On Renata misreading Agustín:

I think that is part of Renata's character flaw if you will, although I think it is not really a flaw as much as being a bit of an ingenue and really not looking beneath the surface of people. She's a bubbly extrovert herself and enjoys warm friendships with people, assuming the best of others. She assumes other people are as generous and demonstrative as she is - to everybody.

In fact I think this is at the heart of why most people love her so much and Fina and Roberta hate her so. People are strongly drawn to her. Yes, she's lovely, but it's her open, warm and loving personality that really brings in the men and makes them want her as their SO. Not any kind of underhanded "wiles" on her part. Of course Fina and Roberta only use their "wiles" so that is all they can understand. Renata, on the other hand, initially assumes other people are like her, so she doesn't think to look past the surface of big gestures.

Audrey

So why do you think that Alfonsina made that request of the doc? Does she have the hots for Lazaro herself. Her husband Ezequiel (is that her husband, not her brother?) is pretty hot stuff himself!

Audrey, good analysis of Renata's character. Although surely she must see that Augie is hot for her. I guess she's so blinded by her love for Jero he's all she can think about. But Jero, cutting off your lady love in traffic? Isn't that just a little...Mr Inappropriate and unsafe?

So Roberta and Matias "catch" Jero and Renata together? Sounds like sparks are going to fly tonight.

Alfonsina and the doc - I don't really know what's up with them except that he's really into her and she seems interested in him. But like Audrey says "WHY?" We the viewers know what a creep he is but Alfonsina hasn't seen everything we've seen so she probably just thinks he's a nice guys with a great profession who lives in town and treats his non-working wife like a queen (gag) with all sorts of creature comforts. Meanwhile she lives out in the country working along with her manual labor husband just trying to make ends meet. She mentioned earlier that she needed her job to feed her son so clearly it takes a double income to support the family. Maybe she also likes the dopey-eyed drooling the doc always does when he's around her. Husband Ezekiel most likely doesn't act that way. She seems to deliberately provoke that reaction in the doc.

Great analysis of Renata Audrey. I agree. Even when she was a kid she was that way. When she, her sis and Fina first met Gonzo, the very first thing she did was give him a big old hug, while Roberta hung back. That was when he fell for his little girl, and why he loves her so much. She puts out a lot of love and positive energy, and I think that she's used to people reciprocating that (except mom and sis). I also think she is so wrapped up in what she's feeling for Jero that she's a bit oblivious at the moment. Notice how she went off into lala land as she was smelling Augie's flowers at the table. She sure as heck wasn't thinking about the man who had just given her those flowers. Plus, I think the writers want Augie to think Renata loves him because it will play into the drama later.

Fun discussion here folks and I loved your "epic stink eye" Sylvia. Carlos..."boar in rut"...way to make a point dude! And Audrey, nice analysis of Renata's charm.

In addition to that, I think we look for what we want to see. She doesn't want to see romantic ulterior motives in Augie's attentions so she slides right past them. NA. Her mind is filled and overfilled with the unappealing Jero.

Clearly Destiny has decreed these two should be together, but he is the coldest, crankiest galan we've ever been saddled with, verdad? It's going to take a lot of heat on Renata's part to thaw this sucker out.

Still, I'm with you Sylvia...the open-mouthed practically drooling Doctor is the guy I loathe the most. But have to cut him some slack, I guess...Alfonsina's outfits and that chest and pelvic thrust posture could derail many a man's thoughts.

Sylvia, my vote for Mr.Inappropriate goes to Tony for insisting about that ring, though he's got competition from Jerry, cutting Renata off in traffic, Dr. Bblhd for what you said, and even Augie for maybe trying too hard... that humongous floral display AND a bottle of his best wine? Por favor.

If I were Renata and Jerry, I think that I'd find some other bar to meet in rather than La Mentira... for a number of reasons, not the least of which... La Mentira...

Carlos

" I guess because he didn't grab her and force his tongue in her mouth she thinks that he just wants to be friends."

Yep, that could be the reason, but I also like Audrey's version too. Put those two things together....I do like the fact that Nata had gone to the airport, acting and admitting to her own feelings when she talked to Jero. She knows how she feels, just not too good on picking it up in others I guess. That little "I'm going to run your car off the road I like you so much" was cute - too bad Jero turns into a snark too.

Sylvia - you're a treasure getting the basics up for us to re-read. I missed the whole ring thing with Antonio. Well, truthfully -I choose that moment to get more coffee for myself and my son).I was rather petrified she would actually cave totally - but keeping it wasn't that much better. Just pushy - do these guys not realize a little peck basically means "not really wanting to get any further action with you dude" and they should just call it a night and move on? Have a feeling this guy is going to be a pain in the you know where... not liking him at all. Mr. I for me too.

(Doc Scumbag is always in perpetual 2nd place as far as I'm concerned. The fact he draws breathe keeps him there. )

OK then, it sounds like Antonio is elected Mr. Inappropriate for last night's episode, plus he really rubs Daisy the wrong way. He comes across as benign and pathetic but maybe if (when) he gets dumped once and for all he'll become nastier. I don't imagine the bulls like him much either.

I forgot to thank you earlier, Sylvia, for your yeoman's work in getting this post up under difficult circumstances.

I agree with Audrey on her analysis of Renata. Another example is the whole thing with Diego. She didn't have any idea that she had been leading him on. She just acts with openness and affection and doesn't see tht others don't react in the same way -- so guys think that there is more there than there actually is. Of course this setup of Auggie is going to set off some big fireworks down the way.

Boy, Mr. Inappropriate for today is a tough call -- so many candidates -- but I think I go for Antonio and the ring.

You're very welcome, glad to help out. Obviously I could have paid better attention (heh) but that's where y'all stepped up.

One thing that constantly amazes me is the non-relationship between Renata and Roberta. They don't confide in each other on even the most basic level. You'd think somewhere in their past they would have, at some time, bonded on at least a few issues such as "why is mom such a b**ch tonight" or something like that. They are half sisters who think they are whole sisters (twins even) yet no connection at all. I suspect that Roberta's alleged heart problem is that she actually does not have one. Which she inherited from Fina.

When they were kids it was clear that Renata showered Roberta with affection and tried to be a good sis to her, and Roberta seemed to feel bad (and cried) when Fina went into one of her rages at Renata. But over the years it looks like Fina has managed to drive a wedge between the sisters, making sure Roberta resents Renata for no reason.

I'm glad that Renata does not confide in Roberta because that would cause all kinds of problems if Rob knew her secrets. Renata would just look like an idiot telling Rob her biz, which she would just use against her. We have been there before with heroines. I'm glad we don't have that situation here. It's strange though to see the two actresses playing Roberta and her bff, as those two were so at odds with each other in Mi Pecado.

carlos, your sense of humor has me cracking up laughing... (the Antonio persistence one... giving back the ring if she dhes not fall for him...uh... right...) to mention just one...ROFLOL! can't wait to see you comment/mock Alborada... there is a good one there, but it also has some details that we can have fun mocking...
silvia, good question about the sister interaction, I tend to agree with Vivi, they were getting along as kids but Fina has had time to beat some major resentment in Roberta toward Renata...
tried to comment for the alborada post that I will be there too but it won't let me... some weird error code keeps popping up. hopefully not here.

Although I missed the earlier episodes, the flashback Renata had overhearing Fina tell why she disliked her, showed Roberta being a sympathetic sister and concerned at Mom's cruel braid snipping.

I guess the rancor started about middle school age (remember when nice little girls suddenly became so bitchy and competitive in the 7th grade?...I do.)and Renata's attractiveness far outshone Roberta's.

Plus maybe Renata tried a little harder to win affection 'cause she sure wasn't getting any at home.

Anyway, puberty seems to bring out all kinds of envy and undercutting. Wish Mama Nature had some other system to bring us into adulthood. (Menopause is no picnic either!)

@Vivi..I remember the Sele (Roberta's BFF) actress from Tontas but not from Mi Pecado. Am I missing something?

Sylvia, thanks for the summary, you are great!

Ezekiel is Alfonsina's brother.

The poor Dr. looks like he has been hypnotized when Alfonsina is talking to him. I wonder who the bio-daddy of her son is? Please tell me it is not Dr. D.

Rosemary

Thanks to all for pitching in to make this episode more understandable and more enjoyable as we delve into this cast of characters. I did manage to see most of the episode on the fly so I will now vote:

Antonio squeaks in with the hang-dog looking proposer. But, someone besides Fina has to obstruct Gonzo's path to Regina.

I love Renata's warmth and outgoing nature. It is the best of all outcomes for someone who was denied so much affection and acceptance as a child. Gonzo was right to become her big Poppy. I am glad she heard the rationalizaton from Fina that she looks so like her father and thankfully she also got his character.

Sylvia, thanks again for stepping in to offer a recap. I have now posted it to the body of the posting as you can see. Besides the love-sick galans, the sick boy and maybe Roberta will have a real heart issue, the title just popped into my head. YOU ARE THE BEST!!

Oh whoopsie, Zeke is Alfonsina's bro? I totally missed that, thought he was her hub. Thanks Rosemary. So right, who is the baby daddy?

Marta, blogger did that to me yesterday too, specifically with the alborada post. Wait and try again later. I think I rebooted my laptop. What a pain as it erased a couple of my comments.

LOL, perfect tile Cheryl!

Thanks, Rosemary, for clarifying that Ezekiel is Alfonsina's brother.

Audrey

Judy- In Mi Pecado Sele and Rob were Blanca (the priest's neice) and Renata (the nasty cousin of Lu). Blanca got pregnant by Carmelo and he threw her in front of a car while trying to force her to have an abortion. And Renata was Carmelo's lover. Renata was constantly nasty to Blanca, and Blanca had no problem speaking up about Renata's true nature.

Thank you for the recap Sylvia!

I think Audrey is right about Renata and we are just supposed to think she is just walking on cloud nine so she can't see Agustín's feelings for her at all.

Ezequiel is Alfonsina's husband, they have a son.

Judy: The actress playing Selene, Jackie García, played the priest's niece Blanca in Mi Pecado. Blanca got pregnant by Carmelo but he was already having an affair with Renata (Jessica Coch) and Blanca saw them together. Carmelo accidentally throws Blanca to the street and she is ran over by a car which makes her lose the baby and she ended up with Josué at the finale.

Martaivett I didn't know Telemundo showed Cuando Seas Mía in the US, no wonder Televisa was so eager to make a deal with Telemundo, they weren't just giving Azteca actors a job but they were also showing their novelas in the US. I saw the opening for Catalina y Sebastián on Telemundo, they changed the original song "No A Pedir Perdón" by Ana Gabriel to a love song by Ricky Martin and that completely ruined it for me since it made no sense with the images.

Jarocha

Vivi answered first! And better.

Jarocha

OK, so Ezequiel and Alfonsina are married. I thought so but couldn't remember why. All the convoluted relationships still aren't too terribly clear. We've seen barely anything that helps characterize Alfonsina, Ezequiel or their son. It seems that Ezequiel is "good" but he works for a "bad" guy. We don't know about Alfonsina yet although she's more or less macking on a married man. But we don't know why, she could just be trying to protect her job. On the positive side she's trying to protect Matilde and Lazaro's jobs. Matilde and Lazaro and siblings, right?

I absolutely refuse to read cast lists in Wikipedia because they always through spoilers in.

Sorry about the confusion about Zek and Alfonsia. If Jarocha says they are husband and wife it has to be true. There is no telling where I got my misinformation. I have Hispanic friends that talk about these TN and sometimes I have found that they are wrong. It is fun to correct them, all thanks to Caray!.

Rosemary

Thanks Vivi and Jarocha. My word, the actress playing Blanca was so different in Mi Pecado (especially with braids) that I never made the connection at all! She was the cute little wife with the unfaithful husband in Tontas, a totally different kind of role and hairstyle.
Ay yi yi...the cogs are beginning to slip a little.

And Rosemary..you may have gotten your misinformation from Wikipedia. It's full of mistakes. Also says, repeatedly, that Rafa is the SON, not brother, of Jeronimo.

But don't read it if you haven't already. Full of spoilers, as Sylvia noted.

I noticed that the CME page on WikipediaLeaks is full of errors this time too. They are generally written as though the writer is not a native English speaker but usually are factually correct. This one just made me confused until I realized it was done by someone demonic or confused themselves.

I remembered Sele from Tontas & Mi Pecado -- but I totally didn't recognize Roberta as that conniving cousin from Mi Pecado. Thanks for reminding me.

JudyB, I learned long ago not to read Wiki. The only thing I do read is Melinama synopsis before the series starts. But I do subscribe to the novela magazine which is full of spoilers with photos no less so I started saving those for a few weeks before I even open them. The other thing that could have happened was our conversations about Mati and her brother and I could have confused the two. But needless to say, I bet Alfonsina's son was not fathered by Ezekiel. There is just something wrong with them as a couple.

Rosemary

Gosh Rosemary, why would you say that about Ezequiel and Alfonsina? Just because you thought they were brother and sister? LOL!
