Teresa Fri 5/27/11 #66 When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping!

Cancún: Ter-or is having a berrinche to beat all berrinches. Arturo has just received an urgent business call requiring him to return to el D.F., cancelling their trip to Paris, Rome, Spain. Whoooooeeee, she is righteously pissed! How can he do this to her? She can’t believe his work is more important than her. All he can do he plead with her helplessly to understand this is muy importante, his client’s freedom is at stake. She gets teary eyed and leaves in a huff.

Vecindad: Juana and Esperanza are checking out the knitting Espe and Refugio have done for the baby. Juana assures Esperanza that Johnny will find an apartment faster than a rooster can crow (el canto de un gallo). That may be so but Espe is still very worried. Now that Aida knows where she lives, she can also find out about the pregnancy. Mayra comes a-knockin’! Juana answers the door and Mayra immediately recognizes her as Teresa’s godmother. She’s come to see Esperanza. Espe rushes to put away the knitting. Juana’s leaves them alone to talk but tells Espe she’ll be in the next room. Mayra gives Espe the once over.

Gema’s Store: Fito is waiting by Johnny’s cab and asks Gemma if she’s thought over his proposal to sell his “merchandize” at her store. She feels it’s too risky. He’s run into Johnny and has thought of a great way to use him. She’s intrigued and wants to know how much they’re talking about. He laughs wickedly.

Juana’s: Mayra tells Espe this is not a social call. She notices the bag Espe’s trying to push aside and asks if it’s a regalito from her husband. Espe pulls out a skein of yarn and asks if she’d like to check out her knitting – whew, that was close! Mayra would like to know the truth. Ruben wants to reconcile, telling her he still loves her and that the affair with Espe was nothing more than una aventura. Espe confirms this and just as she’s asked Aida for forgiveness she would now like to do the same with Mayra. She never intended to break up a marriage. Mayra isn’t letting her off that easy. She’s sure Espe thought she had it made with Ruben, thinking he would get her out of the vecindad. Espe begins to repeat that she never meant to break up a marriage but Mayra stops her, telling her not to lie. Then she asks how much Espe would want to get out of their lives forever. Espe’s offended.

Gema & Fito: She’s warming up to the idea. He feels his plan would keep her and Johnny above suspicion and he could continue his distribution and not lose his client base. She supposes correctly that things have gotten kind of tough for him and that’s why he hasn’t been seen. He admits those risks come with the territory. She tells him to continue to lay low because the police have come around asking about him. He figures that Paulo’s family must have good contacts. She assures him her lips are sealed. He warns her that would be best because payback’s a bitch in this business. She tells him to back off, she wants to do business with him. He’s glad to hear it saying she’ll earn much more selling his “candy” than with her loan shark dealings. Doofus Johnny comes back carrying a bag of tortas for Fito. Fito gives him what appears to be a big tip and tells him he’ll call “El Huarache Veloz” (the Fast Huarache – ja ja ja) real soon and reminds both Johnny and Gema that they didn’t see him here. After he leaves, Gema tells Johnny she doesn’t want to loan him any money but does have some work for him. Johnny’s real happy to hear that. Oh, this does not bode well for El Huarache Veloz.

Casa de Geno: Ruben is still lamenting about the Battle at la Boda. Geno tells him Mayra remembered the call from Espe while they were in Paris. He’s screwed. His attempt to reconcile with Mayra keeps getting more and more complicated. He must patch things up before Aida discovers the fraudulent goings on in Mayra’s business affairs. Geno has other things in mind, namely taking advantage of the time they have while he’s still free. Ruben can’t be distracted. He must find a way to regain Mayra’s confidence. Fine, Geno says, go find her. Ruben plans on going back to the house and wait until Mayra returns home.

Juana’s: Mayra is waiting for an answer from Espe, asking her to name the price for moving to another city, never to return. Espe tells her she’s very mistaken. Espe’s a woman in love who made a huge mistake, she’s not a vulgar blackmailer (vulgar chantajista). She asks Mayra to leave and shows her the door. Mayra tells Espe not to put on airs. She’s offering her money that she’ll never earn as a nurse. Espe’s trying very hard to control herself and tells Mayra that if her aim was to offend her, well she’s done it and now she needs to leave. Mayra tells her to think about her offer. The amount she’s offering her will give her the opportunity to live well, not in a pigsty (pocilga) like this. Espe tells her again to leave and never return. Mayra suggests she accept her offer or she’ll regret it because no one would ever offer her so much for so little work; but of course, Espe would know much more about such transactions. WHOA!! Now Espe threatens to throw her out. Mayra finally leaves and Espe begins to cry. Juana, who’s been listening this whole time, goes to comfort her.

Casa de la Barrera: The honeymooners arrive. Teresa starts giving Reina the maid orders. Reina informs them that Jacinto (handy man?) is on vacation. She also tells them Juana hasn’t been around and neither has Luisa. She hasn’t been there and hasn’t called either. Ruh-roh! Teresa gets a smug look on her face.

Fernando’s pad: Luisa is huddled over some blueprints and Fernando declares the workday over. They chitchat playfully and start canoodling. Fernando asks her to stay the night. He wants to wake up with her by his side. She agrees.

Casa de la Barrera: I don’t know what Teresa’s thinking! She goes back to her old room with Mr. Hawtness himself coming in right after her. He asks which room they’re going to sleep in? She’s all discombobulated and sighs heavily that she’s very tired. He reminds her she’s now his woman (funny how they use that phrase) and she has to choose which bedroom they’ll use. She’s losing her poker face, she better be careful.

Casa de Chavez: Refugio tells Armando the house feels so empty without Esperanza. She worries about her being away from the people who know her best and can help her. Armando feels Teresa would be angry if she heard Refugio saying that. Their allegiance is to their daughter. Refugio acknowledges that Espe made a terrible mistake but she’s paying dearly for it. Just thinking about that awful man and what he’s done to her and how she’s going to be a single mother, her heart just aches for her. Armando understands but they can’t put someone else’s wellbeing (buen estar) before their daughter’s. Refugio’s sure Teresa wouldn’t because they’re childhood friends,. Armando thinks they should wait until after the honeymoon to ask Teresa. Got news for you Pops, the honeymoon is over!

Honeymooners: The Berrinche continues: Teresa doesn’t intend to sleep with him because she’s still very angry over the cancellation of the honeymoon. She feels a married couple should make such decisions together. Arturo counters that as his wife, and as an attorney herself, she should understand; didn’t she just vow she would stand by him for better or for worse? That includes business. She says it also means that he must accept her decision not to want to see him when she’s so angry. (wait, what?) He feels this is just a whim (capricho) and he will not permit it. He asks again, where will they sleep, in her room, or his? She tells him he can stay if he wishes but his attitude will only serve to worsen the situation. She turns her back on him and walks away. Arturo can’t believe what’s just happened. They’ve been married what, 24 hours?

Casa de Chavez: Mariano comes by to check Refugio’s blood pressure but also to apologize for what happened yesterday at the wedding. Armando lays into him for ruining his daughter’s wedding. He calls him ínfeliz, what he did at the wedding was the last straw (el colmo). He’s really angry, recalling how Mariano promised he would leave Teresa alone. Teresa has told Mariano repeatedly she doesn’t love him anymore. Is he wrong, or what? Did Teresa do something to change his mind? (I’ll say she did). There’s no name for what he did, ruining her wedding so she’d run off with him. What he did was wrong and it only earned him Teresa’s hate and his (Armando’s). You tell him, pops. Mariano’s sorry to hear Armando say that about him. Maybe it’s best they no longer speak about Teresa. For now, he wants to check on Refugio’s health. Whoa, whoa, whoa! Armando tells him not to bother. He’s not the only doctor in the world. He’ll get someone else to check on Refugio, maybe Aurora. As for Mariano, he’s no longer welcome at Casa Chavez and he should stay away from Teresa too. He’s really steamed. Refugio asks him to calm down. Mariano looks a little angry also.

Honeymooners: Bedtime for Teddy! Arturo’s waiting in bed while Tersa stomps around the room in her robe, walking the angry wife walk. She gets into bed without saying a word, grabs Teddy and turns away from Arturo, preferring to snuggle with Teddy. Arturo, obviously not recognizing the Teddy’s resemblance to Mariano, pleads with her not to be angry. They’re on their honeymoon. Teresa corrects him: oh no, the honeymoon he promised her was in Europe, not here. He snuggles up to her, kissing her face, her shoulders, asking if the honeymoon is more important to her than him. She pouts, saying he knew how important it was to her to visit those cities, and visit them with him. He promises they can still go, not to think of it as a cancellation, but as a postponement (aplazamiento). He promises to make it up to her. He doesn’t want them to go to bed angry. She tells him it’s too late for tonight. He continues to snuggle and as he does so, he grabs Teddy and throws him across the room. Teresa flies out of bed to rescue him, saying she always sleeps with Teddy. Arturo thinks it’s cute, teasing she’s still such a child in some ways. (gag) She tells him that Teddy brings her good memories. He assumes Juana gave it to her then tells her she now has him to hug and kiss and with much better results! She tells him not tonight cuz she’s not mad at Teddy but she’s mad at him. He repeats she’s still such a child but she’ll mature with him by her side. For tonight, he won’t be able to sleep without holding her and kissing her. Teresa hugs Teddy.

Casa Caceres: Mayra arrives home and is surprised by Ruben waiting for her in the living room. He was getting worried, it’s so late. She tells him her comings and goings are none of his business. He asks her to stop being this way. Ok, so she’s met the other woman. She should see that she’s nothing (ni te alcanza los talones=doesn’t reach your heels). Does she think he’d trade her in for a woman like that? Mayra points out that didn’t stop him from sleeping with her. Ruben tells her the only woman he cares for his standing here before him. (ugh) He asks again for another chance. She’s not sure. He asks that they at least give it a chance. She turns from him and thought bubbles Aida’s warning about her other divorced friends like the one whose husband ended up having a child with the “other woman” who now just wants all his money. She relents and tells him he can come home. He’s very relieved and thinks he’s won. She makes it clear she’s only doing it to avoid further scandal. He immediately talks of going for his things and she tells him to put them in the guestroom. She’s not ready to have him share hers just yet.

Casa Alcazar : Aida’s come by to get the dirt from Aurora on la boda from hell. She wonders why Mariano seemed so sure Teresa wasn’t going through with the marriage. Aurora isn’t saying anything. Aida assures her it’s not to harass Teresa. Aurora wonders if it’s for Mariano’s sake and asks if Aida is sincerely interested in him.

Casa Caceres: Ruben asks Mayra not to be so tough on him. She tells him she’s only doing this for Aida. He’s glad to hear that but now that he’s back home there’s no further need for poor Aida to work so hard on behalf of Mayra’s interests. Mayra makes it very clear Aida will continue to work on her behalf. He says he’s hurt that she would have such little confidence in him; that she would think him capable of mismanaging her money. [oh, he’s capable alright] She doesn’t know if it was mismanaged or not, but she does know that up until now, he was managing it on his own. And those days are now over. Aida is teaching her how to manage her own finances. He doesn’t understand why that’s necessary. She tells him if she doesn’t earn his respect as a woman, she’ll never earn it as his wife. You go, sister!

Casa Alcazar: Aida is really confused about Mariano. First he says they’re on, then they’re not. Aurora understands Aida should be furious but she must understand that Mariano and Teresa dated for a long time and were headed for the altar. That’s why Teresa’s wedding hit him so hard. She doesn’t know what else she can do to help him. Perhaps Aida can. Aida still wants to know the whole story, saying that’s the only way she can help Mariano. She’s sure Teresa still loves Mariano and only married Arturo for his money. She wants to know what happened between Teresa and Mariano to cause him to think Teresa would cancel the wedding. Aurora suggests she speak with Mariano – he’s the only one who can tell her. She asks Aida again what she feels for Mariano. Again, Aida says she’s confused. She doesn’t know if she can ever love again after what happened with Paulo. She feels really good with Mariano but she’s really angry with him right now because as it turns out he knew all about her father’s cheating ways and even knows the other woman. Aurora tells her the bad news that she also knew everything but they had agreed not to say anything because of her recent loss. Aida: “¡Que mala onda! Why didn’t you tell me?”

Casa Caceres: Rubigote playing the victim doesn’t understand why Mayra’s doing this to him. Does she want to make him feel bad or minimize (minimizar) all his work? After everything he’s done for this family? Marya doesn’t understand why it’s an issue for her to manage her own money. He claims he just wants to compensate for all the hurt he’s caused her, take her out, travel together. If she’s working, well, he just won’t be able to do all those things with her. Mayra doesn’t miss the irony in all this. When he was “working” so hard, she had to beg him just to go out to a restaurant. And now…..he interrupts her thought to finish the sentence. And now, he says, now that he’s at the point of losing her, he’s learned to appreciate her like never before. She’s been the best wife and mother. She agrees but she’s tired of dedicating herself full time to being a wife and mother and with unfavorable results. She asks him to take it or leave it. Ruben takes a big gulp.

Casa Grump’s: Pati is looking forward to her freedom. She’s drawn sad faces on the wall, counting the days until her adulthood, calling it her day of liberation. Grandpa has news for her. Even when she becomes an adult, she’ll have to continue to do as he says. He tells her he loves her very much and wants the best for her. He doesn’t want her to make the same mistakes her mother did. Pati fights back, saying it’s his own fault for making his daughter marry someone she didn’t love. Then she kicks him out of her room so she doesn’t have to keep looking at him! Grandpa starts yelling, telling her not to speak to him that way, foolish child (escuincla majadera) [sounds a lot harsher in Spanish], he’s not going anywhere. She threatens to change into her pj’s in front of him. He looks upward, asking God what he did to deserve this escuincla and finally leaves. Pati just laughs. Boring scene.

Geno’s house: Ruben returns and exaggerates, telling Geno that Mayra has given him thousands of conditions for him to return home. Geno jumps up, ¡¿QUE!? She’s pissed to hear that he’s returning to Mayra. He tells her this is what works best for them. He needs to be by Mayra’s side. Geno is unconvinced.

Fernando’s pad: It’s morning and they’re sharing breakfast on the coffee table. Doesn’t he have a dining table/brkfst nook in this fantabulous high-rise apt? They talk about how wonderful it is to wake up together. He wonders if they should continue in this fashion until newlyweds return from their honeymoon. She has two conditions: that Arturo not find out and that Fernando do all the cooking. Kissy, kissy.

Casa de la Barrera: Señora de la Barrera gulps down a glass of o.j. and makes it clear to Reina that she doesn’t plan on having breakfast with el Señor. When Reina leaves, Teresa thought bubbles as she holds up a credit card, “Why would I want all your love, Arturo. It’s enough to have all your money.”

Casa Caceres: Aida’s on the phone with Mariano, she’s slept on it (consulte con mi almohada= consulted my pillow) and has come to a conclusion, can they meet?

Casa de la Barrera: Reina tells Arturo she has no idea where la Sra. is. He’s clearly upset, wondering what is wrong with her. When he asks about his sister, Reina spills it, telling him she’s not there either and didn’t sleep there. Just then Luisa walks in and doesn’t see Arturo on the balcony. She’s talking to Fernando on her cell, saying she’s only going to pack her suitcase (maleta) and she’ll be right back. Arturo speaks up, “¿Que dijiste?” Ruh-roh! He demands to know where she spent the night then wonders why he asked when it’s obvious she spent the night with Fernando. Luisa tries to get past him up the stairs but he stops her and pulls her to his office. “We need to have a serious discussion.”

Casa Caceres: Mayra wonders why Aida wants to continue seeing Mariano. Aida explains she needs to continue with her plan to get over Paulo plus continue volunteering at the clinic. Mayra doesn’t think it’s such a good idea to continue going to that vecindad, possibly running into that woman. Aida disagrees and repeats that Geno suggested she keep an eye on Espe and keep her in line. Mayra tells of her run-in with Espe, sarcastically repeating that Espe called herself a “woman in love who had made an error.” Aida’s annoyed that her mother lowered herself to visit the vecindad. If there’s a problem she should let Aida handle that “tipa”. Mayra doesn’t know what she’d do without Aida. She’s so sensata (wise, sensible) and intelligent.

Casa de la Barrera: Arturo is scolding Luisa over the Fernando affair. He doesn’t understand and doesn’t accept what’s happened. Luisa begs him not to fight with Fernando. He didn’t force her into anything. On the contrary, he’s been nothing if not sweet and patient with her. Arturo can’t believe she can be so nonchalant about this. Luisa asks that he not treat her like a child. She knew full well what she was doing. She made a decision and doesn’t regret it. Arturo wonders how she knows he’s “the one” (el hombre indicado=suitable, appropriate). She recalls she was just a child when Fernando left for Spain but she never stopped thinking of him. She loves him and he loves her. [So what happened to that bf, Julio? That she was dating pre-Fernando?] Arturo says he’s sorry but it’s difficult for him to suddenly see her as a woman. He’s so accustomed to taking care of her. She understands it’s not easy for him.

Casa Caceres: Aida congratulates mom on the handling of Rubigote. Mayra has Aida to thank for the advice but she still needs her help in managing her money. Aida wholeheartedly agrees and also tells her to continue to stand firm with Ruben. Most importantly, she needs to continue to punish him and not forgive him. At the very least, she’ll have the satisfaction of making him suffer. Mayra’s not sure she can handle all this. She’s never managed her money. Aida reminds her it’s her money and strongly advises her not to give in to Ruben.

Casa de la Barrera: Luisa’s uncomfortable talking about this with Arturo. He understands he needs to start treating her differently. He just has one question: “Te estas cuidando?” (safe sex?) She confirms she is and laughingly admits that’s the first thing Teresa asked her. Hold the phone! Teresa knew? Luisa tries to explain Teresa is her bestie (or is it beastie? Sorry, it’s getting late) and was sworn to secrecy. Arturo is frustrated realizing he was the only one who didn’t know (el único que estaba en la luna=the only one on the moon). She doesn’t want him to be upset with Teresa, she didn’t agree with this either. He lets on that they’re having a spat. He explains the cancellation of the honeymoon as the cause of the argument. Luisa can’t believe he cancelled for work-related issues. Poor Teresa, what a disappointment. [yeah, my heart bleeds for her]

Speaking of which, Tere’s shopping her little heart away. You could say she’s on a shark-like feeding frenzy--fashionista style. The sales person is showing her watches in an array of colors. Hmmmm, she just can’t decide: she’ll take them all. Can he also show her the jewelry in that other case?

Hospital: Espe is telling Hernán el Galán that Johnny has managed to pull together the money for an apt and she’s in the process of signing the lease. He offers her money if she needs it. She flatly refuses, saying the only reason she tells him all this is because she feels so comfortable with him. If that’s the case, he says, she needs to stop calling him Doctor. [oh, Doctor!] He also asks that she refrain from addressing him in the formal Udsted. She’s shy about doing so and he tells her he’s very comfortable with her and insists.

Juana’s apt: Cutberto pops up at her window, dressed in his traje de charro. She lets him in even as she’s complaining about him. He’s happy to see her and lifts her in his arms and twirls her around. She uses yet another version of her favorite dicho: “¡Bájame! Si me da una vuelta más, lo mato” (put me down, if you give me another turn, I’ll kill you). He continues blabbing on about how wonderful it is to see her, to look into her eyes so chulas and in walks Hector the Director! HELLOOOO DOCTOR! They chit-chat a bit about his etiquette classes with Aurora. Hector goes so far as to invite him to his house for lessons and possibly a little copita de tequila if he’d like. Cutberto can’t manage being polite much longer, saying “¡Ya no aguanto!” (I can’t take it anymore). Then he cleans it up by saying he just got in from a gig and can’t take the lack of sleep anymore. Hector, ever the gentleman, wonders if Juanita was in the middle of fixing his clothes or something. Juanita makes it clear their business is finished, he was just leaving. Cutberto can’t help but put in a dig, saying that seeing them together has chased away his drowsiness. He thinks he’ll go see Griseldita, ‘scuse me! Juanita quickly asks who Griseldita is as Cutberto rushes off. Hector’s always so nervous when he’s alone with Juana, it’s cute. He tries to tell her about his first wife. She assumes he’s about to propose and doesn’t let him finish, telling him she’s got lots to do. He offers to go with her and she reluctantly agrees.

Hospital: Hernán and Espe continue their conversation. Espe realizes she really doesn’t know much about him other than he never married. He begins to bare his soul, telling Espe that he fell in love with the wrong woman and thought he would never fall in love again. He thinks he may have come to that conclusion too quickly but before he can go on, Espe’s obstetrician interrupts. She asks Espe to come by for a check up and then reminds Hernán they’re eating together later. He tells her to brace herself cuz they’ll be spending the whole afternoon together. Espe looks on and I detect maybe a little, tiny bit of jealousy creeping in? Maybe she’s finally feeling something for the good Doctor? Oooh Doctor!

Casa Grumps: Spare me! Johnny is climbing the ladder to visit with his Juliet. They kiss and they talk of their plans. He tells her about his new workload with Gemma. I think I missed something here but I gather that his work with Gemma involves deliveries from her store to nearby residences. They chitchat some more, then they kiss (ugh).

Casa de Geno: Speaking of kissing, Ruben and Geno are sharing a passionate kiss. When they part, he speaks of the wonderful evening they had last night. Well, since he was leaving, she wanted to make sure he left with the best of memories. He agrees saying he enjoyed it so much that he’s here again. It’s too bad he had to return home last night. She tells him it’s going to take some getting used to, him not being there. Ever since Paulo’s death, she feels so alone in that house. [what, no violin?] She’s happy he came by so early. He wanted to make the extra effort to come by early before seeing Aida because she’s sure to reprimand him.

Casa de la Barrera: Luisa’s grateful Arturo is so understanding. He just wants her to be happy and he expects Fernando to be at his best. Now that they’re relationship has changed, what’s next he asks. Are they planning to move in together? She’s not sure, she still wants marriage. He knows there are many who don’t believe in marriage anymore but with the right partner, it could still work. She agrees but feels that without marriage there’s no real commitment. He agrees that in this case that’s probably true, reminding her of Fernando’s womanizing ways. She naively says those days are over. He agrees she has the right to live her life but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t worry about someone hurting her. He tells her to seriously consider everything calmly.

Casa de Geno: Ruben asks Geno to speak with Aida and help him convince her to stay out of Mayra’s business ventures. He wants to keep Aida and Mayra busy. Yes, now Mayra has the silly idea of running her own affairs and that just won’t do.

Casa de la Barrera: Luisa agrees to think everything over carefully and that gives Arturo some relief. She advises him to patch things up with Teresa. He calls her and our little Tiburoncita is at a café surrounded by shopping bags. She ignores his call saying now he’s going to suffer a good while for her. He leaves her a message as she smugly thumbs through a magazine. She comes to an article all about the Escándalo en la Boda del Prestigiado Abogado Arturo de la Barrera. The article asks, “¿Quien es su novia que se debate entre dos amores?” (who is this bride who debates between two loves?) Teresa is muy impactada! “¡Ay, no!”

Comments:
So Arturo and Teresa have only had sex on their wedding night? And already, she's pushing him away? Wow! The scene where he's waiting for her in bed with that Teddy sitting next to him was hysterical.

Arturo found out about Fernando and Luisa and took it rather well, I'd say. It goes to show the great relationship he and Luisa have. They were able to talk it through calmly.

Tonight's episode was rather calm considering all the drama from the wedding. We're now setting up for upcoming drama - more flirting between Fernando and Teresa according to the promo, Johnny unwittingly ensnared in Fito's web, Espe's baby drama. So much to look forward to.

Paquita, it's been more than one. Remember the morning and desayuno in la cama? Plus I'm sure El Lic. had her many times before cancelling Europa. Remember, it had been 14 years....
Anyway, I don't think Ter would have pushed him away if they had gone to see Europe as planned. She seemed really happy at poolside with the thought of seeing Paris (even with him showing her the city).

I too thought that Teddy in the bed scene was hysterical. Did you notice Sebastian almost laughing when Angelique was getting into the bed? Too funny. And when he threw Teddy and Ter jumps up? Funny! I don't think she minded the cuddle session with Art, she didn't have Tiburona eyes the Tiburon music was playing.

I enjoyed seeing the Ter and Art fight. It is showing how alike they are. I bet Art is as strong willed and determined as Teresa. And going to be a formidable partner.

Diann

She didn't have Tiburona eyes and the Tiburon music WASN'T playing is what I meant.

Oops, darn iPad keyboard....

Diann

Tiburoncita really has no idea what she's gotten herself into, has she? Someone should have taught her she shouldn't let her mouth write checks her body doesn't want to cash.

What a greedy brat. Arturo isn't going to like his credit card bills.

Thanks for the recap! It's terrific!

So Arturo is now realizing he's married a bratty child, but is choosing to try to find this cute. How long can he keep up his delusions?

That scene in bed with the Teddy bear was hysterical. My immediate reaction was, "OMG! Arturo is in bed with Mariano!" Then after Teresa climbed in it was an awkward threesome. Kinky! Funny how I now totally see that poor abused bear as Mariano.

I wonder how Teresa plans to take not only half of Arturo's assets, but all of them. He's a better lawyer than she is. Surely she's not planning to be a widow; that seems like going too far even for our greedy sharkita. I'm dying for Teresa to find out that there's a lower limit on that credit card than she thinks.

Had to look away during much of Ruben's scenes. He is the grossest.

So Aida now knows that Teresa and Mariano were actually engaged. Will she pass that info along to Arturo, who is under the impression they merely dated casually a bit years ago and Mariano is nuts?

Ah, what a tangled web we weave Teresa. I agree, I think she's met a match in Arturo. He isn't like the weak Paolo, and even Mariano seemed to put up with her antics, but Art doesn't totally take no for an answer. And I'm sorry, but it someone like him started trying to make up afte an argument, unless I had blinders on...well, hard not to melt a little.

But that poor Teddy - I have a feeling that poor baby is going to go thru the mill before this TN is over. Bless his fuzzy little heart.

And I'm with you Julia - too much Ruben WHY??? Want to stuff him down our throats and make us believe all these women would be fighting over him, cast someone like Cesar E., Guy Ecker, I could go on (and they could play sleezy too)...but no offense to the actor, but just can't buy into this whole plot storyline.

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

Paquita, thank you for the timely and excellent recap! After Teresa gets done shopping, Arturo's going to realize the better business decision would have been to blow off his colleague, LOL.

The teddy bear scene was curious; Arturo really is blind to good-naturedly think that was about innocence. When the scales fall from his eyes, the contrast is going to be dramatic.

I just hate that storyline with the loan shark and drug dealer. But I guess it's necessary, because Fito has the handwritten evidence that is going to bring down Teresa for setting up Paulo.

But not before costing Arturo's bank account a lot more in blackmail. Maybe that's how Arturo finds out.

Dr. Ledesma was just on the point of revealing his feelings to Esperanza; but he also said he had some issue with a love affair, and then cue Esperanza's obstetrician to enter. That segue may mean nothing, but it piqued my interest.

Gotta say, I am kind of fond of Manuel Landeta; but I prefer him shaved rather than wigged. The wig looks terrible in HD.

Great organized recap Paquita! And I love all your included Spanish. "Ter-or is having a berrinche to beat all berrinches" LOL! La madre de todos los berrinches. LOL!

@UA "Someone should have taught her she shouldn't let her mouth write checks her body doesn't want to cash." That was hilarious!!! I think Teresa (or inTeresada as I have come to think of her) consistently underestimates the costs associated with her single-minded life strategy.

Yep - the whole teddy waiting in the bed with Arturo and throwing teddy so funny. Dumb Arturo - he just chalks up all Teresa's spoiled behavior to still being a "little girl". Please! (He has no earthly idea he married Machiavelli - LOL!!!)

I totally don't get why Geno is so hot for icky Rubigote. She knows how badly he has treated his wife - including his embezzling. She knows all about Espe. So why does she want to have anything to do with the disgusting slimeball?

Audrey

I'm dying for Teresa to find out that there's a lower limit on that credit card than she thinks.

It would be funny if Arturo calls Mexican Express and tells them to lower the credit line on that card, and Teresa goes shopping or flossing with Aurora (or Aida in the store)and the card is denied.

El Johnnys is stupid. I'm rooting for Grumps to keep Pati locked up now.

Armando isn't stupid, he knows that a Teresa/Rich Dude marriage tide can lift his & Refusio's boat. If Esperanza, Mariano, Aida or anyone else interfere with that, ALL of them will end up back in/stay in the vecindad for good.

Maybe Arturo needs to give Teresa some actual work to do. Everyone on this show has a job except Teresa, Pati, Maira & Aida.

Aida is at least volunteering at the clinic & trying to investigate her mother's affairs. Pati is a schoolgirl and Maira might be learning to manager her own money for once in her life (although I doubt she will and that will be Aida's job).

Ms. OBGYN had the googly eyes for Hernan the Galan. Espe didn't like that.

Ha! at Teresa looking down her nose at her parents, thinking THEY would embarass her at her wedding, when it's her schemes and games that landed her in the gossip rag. Those photographers sold the pictures to the gossip rags, and Arturo's NOT going to like that. LOL

Poor Osito. Although it was funny to see Arturo and Osito in the bed together, and Artie saying it's like Teresa is a child. NEWSFLASH: she IS a bratty child. Teresa thinks Arturo is a simple fool but just as he doesn't know the real Teresa, SHE doesn't know the real Arturo.

And this is a comment from the other night: Pathetic Paloma had a framed picture of her and Arturo on her end table while she was talking to Genoveva. How pathetic!

Paquitadelbarrio, wonderful recap. You kept the storyline interesting, thanks for clarifying some of the more puzzling things. Like the word, “chantajista” somehow that is not in any of my Spanish textbooks. Go figure.

The teddy bear scenes-if this happened where I work I’d say the girl with the borderline personality disorder in room 2 is decompensating.

Diann-Darn iPad keyboard? I wish I had a darn iPad with a keyboard. Or a iPad with or without a darn keyboard.

Jeri: I looked up Manuel Landeta, ITA, he is really good looking bald. I think the Ruben character is supposed to look sleezy, they have achieved that. The problem is, with that wig and mustache it is now hard to tell why these women find him so attractive.

I find the Johnny borrowing from a drug dealer to help Espe so contrived. There are so many options for her. Redik.

Urban: "Someone should have taught her she shouldn't let her mouth write checks her body doesn't want to cash" PRICELESS.

I totally don't get why Geno is so hot for icky Rubigote. She knows how badly he has treated his wife - including his embezzling. She knows all about Espe. So why does she want to have anything to do with the disgusting slimeball?
---------------------------------

I googled Manuel Landeta and minus the wig, boy looks good. I could see why Espe, Maira & Genoveva would want him (if he wasn't wearing that wig).

Genoveva told Aida that she was in love with this guy (Ruben), but this woman took him away (Maira) and had a daughter with him (Aida). Gen was telling Aida this so Aida would not let Teresa take Paolo away.

Genoveva is just as pathetic as Paloma b/c she's helping the "love of her life" Ruben embezzle from Maira and she thinks after Ruben takes all of Maira's money she and Ruben will run off into the sunset. Ruben would be more likely to run off with Esperanza than Genoveva, or some other young girl.

Genoveva finding out about Esperanza's pregnancy is more dangerous than Maira/Aida finding out Gen would see Espe's baby as one more obstacle to her and Ruben finally being together.

Emarie, Manuel has gorgeous eyes, and a shaven head really plays them up; but possibly you're onto something there: maybe they intend for him to look sleazy.

Anon207 - thanks for the background on Genoveva/Ruben. I didn't realize that they had that history and that Ruben had chosen Maira for her money over Genoveva way back when.

So Ruben/Genoveva is the previous generation Teresa/Mariano. Except that Genoveva is willing to support Ruben through all his shenanigans and be part of his schemes while Mariano will live his own life and not hang on to Teresa or be party to her schemes. Interesting!

And Geno still put up with Ruben having Espe as a lover at the same time?!?!?!?!?

Audrey

Here's an amazing photo of

bare Manuel Landeta

and a biographical page

where it says among other things:

"Nombre real: José Manuel Goenaga Jassan"

which sounds like he might have a middle eastern connection just by the name pronunciation.

And:

"...2004 Con Bárbara Mori, interpretó el papel de Lucio Montemayor, un millonario seductor, en la telenovela Rubi..."

So, he was in Rubí, too.

Okay the pieces are falling together concerning Geno and Rube. They were young and poor together. They each went for money, got married to others. Got that. Now for Geno to still want Rube, even though he seems like a simeball, makes some kinda sense. She fell in love with the young (and obviously awesome bedmate). And he must still possess the latter attributes. That's why Geno still wants him. We only see the current Rube version. Geno knows the Original Rube. (who knows maybe he WAS as luscious as Mariano in his day)

Oh, love the "bless his furry heart". Poor Teddy! He is cute though.

Jeri, thanks for that smokin’ hot photo of Landeta! ITA with everyone saying he’s much more handsome as a bald man. I first saw him in that TN (don’t remember the name) where he played a gay man. I’ve seen him a few times since then, including his stint on Mujeres Asesina (really miss that show). Very handsome man.

Why do these women all fight over the scumbag? Easy, we tend to go for the bad boy. Espe fell for the old “my wife doesn’t understand me” line. Mayra fell in love with him way back when and has never realized what a bad boy he really is. And Geno? Well, Geno believes she’s above these two women and thinks she can tame this bad boy. Geno has her own money from her divorce I gather and sees Ruben as some sort of trophy.

I love the way Arturo handled the whole Fernando/Luisa affair. The way he gently reminded Luisa of Fer’s womanizing ways. It helped him get his point across. Luisa’s another one, thinking she’s the special one who’ll tame the bad boy that other women want. Egads! Really looking forward to the next time Artruo and Fernando meet.

I assume they're making him look really sleazy on purpose because that's the character, but I think they've gone a bit too far. We can't see any reason he'd appeal to all these women. Whereas in Llena de Amor, for example, Lowrenzo was a slimeball but could also be rather charming, so one could see why the ladies were drawn in, at least until they found out about his evil deeds (although for Fedra, that was a plus).

I thought it was hilarious the other day when Genoveva told Maira that her life was way better after her divorce because she had moved on. Tell that to your hair and makeup, Geno; they are still resting comfortably in the 80s.

It's interesting that this is a more serious drama and we don't have a prominent priest character. It's definitely not a paint-by-numbers show. I'm really enjoying that I have no idea how the A plot will end.

Geno has her own money from her divorce I gather and sees Ruben as some sort of trophy.
----------------------------

Did she even tell the Father of Paolo that Paolo died?

Paquita, I think the talk Arturo had with Luisa served more than a character purpose -- rather also as a plot purpose.

They need to remind the audience of Fernando's past ways and that he's likely to stray to prepare them if or when Fernando falls to Teresa.

The thing that got me last night was -- even though I have my DVR set to copy ending five minutes late -- the show even ran later still.

It cut off at 5 after the hour, and I still missed the darn ending! Well, it will be repeated Monday, but Univision's scheduling ticks me off.

I had this notion early on that Paulo was actually Rubén's son, since Rubén was the only one Genoveva loved.

It would place Genoveva's big push to get Aida and Paulo together in a very creepy light, though.

Jeri, Univision's scheduling is really screwy. Since I'm still taping TdA (don't know why) I'm always able to catch the last few minutes of Teresa. Sometimes it's longer than 5 minutes.

I no longer extend the time on TdA, not worth it, nothing happens anyway and reading the recap on TdA is much easier than slogging thru 2 hours of that mess.

Usually five minutes will take care of it. I'm glad I have the ending in your excellent recap, Paquita. Appreciate it.

Wow. Tiny Ter is a coldhearted goldddigger. I can't wait for karma to bite her on her tiny butt....I'm just saying....

Awesome recap Frances. So Teresa is going to freeze Arturo out using the excuse of the cancelled honeymoon. I wondered how she will try to get out of having relations with him. She is so mean and nasty with him and now she's going to spend up all his money. I really hope Arturo set aside some money in a Swiss account for a rainy day.

Arturo took the news of Luisa's deflowering well but I know he will definitely keep his eye on Fernando knowing his womanizing ways. In the previews, Teresa flirts with Fernando in front of Arturo. This is a dangerous game she is playing and Arturo will blow his top. He could ever surprise her by divorcing her and leaving her penniless if she keeps this up.

If only Arturo knew the significance of that teddy. Poor hottie Professor.

Awesome recap, thank you! As always, some blanks were filled in for me.

I am really itching to see how Professor Hottie reacts to some of these antics of Teresa. The whole maxing out the credit card thing is not going to go over well, methinks. I just cringed when I saw that. Could she BE more obviously a gold digger?

Thanks, Paquita, for today's fab recap and thanks to Elvira for yesterday's Harlequin Romance version. LOL. Paquita, the translation of Johnny's conversation with Fito and Gema was helpful. Without the details all I knew was that they were up to no good.

For being a smart achiever and planning her whole life on marrying wealthy, Teresa is acting a bit rash. She's not subtle at all in cashing in on Arturo's wealth. Her impulsive spending will cause problems because we now see that Arturo is not going to be a pushover. Gosh, Teresa pace yourself with that credit card.

Well, it seems we might be waiting for Teresa and Fer to stomp on poor Arturo and Luisa's hearts. However Fer has been portrayed as not being the marrying type so Teresa will have to think of some way of fleecing Fer.

Wow, Teresa is the talk of the town now but not in a good way,

GinCA

Let's not forget that the drug dealer is back. Teresa will be handing over most of that jewelry in blackmail payments. That's another nail in her coffin when Arturo finds out.

Did not forget; already mentioned that above. Was wondering if perhaps the blackmail she's taking out of his pocket is how Arturo finds out the truth about Teresa. She already had to lie about the jewelry she gave him...

I guess I'm the only person in here who thought Luisas personal sex life is
HER BUSINES she's freaking like 2-3 years older than Teresa shes probably (25).

Arturo can't be possibly seriously be questioning her about her sex life or upset she stayed the night with Ferni that being said his brotherly concern is appreciatedby Luisa I'm sure.

And as for why all these woman really like
Ruben maybe his charm and beauty lies somewhere else we cannot see *

(*these ladies might be size queens or he really knows how to "work" it)

I think if Luisa had been having sex with Julio, Arturo wouldn't be as concerned.

But she's with Fernando, whom Arturo has known to be a womanizer for at least 15 years, someone who's not about to get married. Of course Arturo is concerned b/c he doesn't want Fernando to dump Luisa after he's finished with her like he's done to everyone else.

I just watched my recording and I have to agree, that teddy bear in bed scene was hilarious (and I think the writers meant it to be). Arturo did look delicious next to the bear though. That could be the February pic in a beefcake calendar. :)

You guys have already made all the best points. Thank you for another wonderful recap. Can't wait to see what unfolds as Art learns what a brat and a flirt he's married.

And Johnny is being an idiot for first going to the loan shark for a loan (hasn't he seen what's happened to Armando and others?), and then taking Fito's money in exchange for keeping quiet about seeing him, and then offering to help him with legit (yeah right) transporting biz with his taxi. The vecinidad folks now have all these rich connections (Aurora, Arturo, Dr. Ledesma and Hector). All of these people would gladly offer a loan, with no interest and no hurry to pay it back. But of course that vecinidad pride always stops them from asking for help from outside of the vecinidad, even if the only help available is sinister.

Frances: This was a wonderful recap, thank you.

I want my own Arturo and Teddy. I bet they would be nice companions hehe.

I will only add to what Anon207 said about Arturo and Luisa that he raised her, he is not just like a brother to her. I'm sure that if their parents were alive he'd be concerned for her but because he was responsible for her for so long and she still lives at their house he has a bigger feeling of protectiveness that is more simmilar to a parent. And as Anon207 said, Fernando is a womanizer, so it's harder to see her taking that chance with him.

Frances, wonderful, fast paced recap filled with imbedded vocabulary. It is so much trabajo to do these recaps, we really appreciate it! Thanks!

On Arturo and Fernando, wouldn't we be surprised if Arturo paid no attention to his sister's first real novio? I'm sure that he can't shield his sister from perceived pain, but knowing what he knows about Fernando, he needs to make a move of some kind. When and if the pain comes, he would be mad at himself if he had remained silent with his worries.

Paquita fabulous and enjoyable recap thank you and to the other recappers for doing a great job on this novela.

I agree Arturo is more than just a brother to Luisa he's almost like a parent to her since he took over raising her after their parents were murdered. I look for him to confront Fernando to do the right thing towards his sister. From the looks of the previews it looks like him catching Fernando flirting with his new bride will start off some fireworks. He knows how Fernando operates.

Mayra has some nerve trying to buy off Espe and that little scene showed me where Aida gets some of her snobbiness from it's not just Ruben.

Loved the bedroom scene with Arturo and the Teddy bear i think once Arturo finds out who really gave Teresa that Teddy bear that bear isn't going to be safe.

Teresa really doesn't know what she has gotten herself into, Arturo isn't a schoolboy with a adolescent crush or a childhood boyfriend. He's a mature grown man and he's not going to be easy to manipulate like she has with Paulo and Mariano. She so far has fooled Arturo but once he starts to discover her true identity and agenda boy is it going to be explosive.

Everyone is so right Mariano is not worthy of Aurora from the previews he's taunting Teresa by kissing Aida in front of her. Grow Up Mariano.

It's either going to come down to Aida or Geno who might do harm to Espe once they discover she is pregnant with Ruben's child. I think how Aida treats Espe will be Mariano's wake up call to leave Aida alone and open his eyes to Aurora.

Vivi, LOL, Arturo with the bear as Mr. February. Okay, sign me up for the calendar.

Angelique Boyer won Best Actress at the Premios TV y Novelas!!
Little clips were shown at the awards, and GOOD stuff is coming our way. I so wish the show was back to 2 hour blocks... It's too hard to wait for the next cap! I have to keep myself away from YouTube!

Unfortunately Sebastian Rulli didn't win Best Actor and Teresa didn't win Best Telenovela :(
But our Teresa beat out those other actresses!
Yeahhhhhhh Angelique!!

Diann

I didn't watch the awards, but I'm happy to hear this. I'm still trying to catch up to LRDS.

Totally agree about what-do-they-see-in-Ruben. He probably knows The Venus Butterfly. ;)

I saw "Ruben" sitting in the audience at the Awards Show (on TV of course) and was like "heyyyyy." He looks GOOD!

I saw Manual L. (Ruben) a few times in that daytime novela Mar de Amor, where he was of course the villain. But yes, the man is indeed hot bald, and he has a nice body. In the other tn he wore more short sleeved shirts that showed it off. Here is a pic of him and his wife of 26 years. She looks so normal for the wife of an actor: http://www.elsiglodetorreon.com.mx/v3/bin/foto.php?390443

Very nice picture, Vivi; thank you. So, that's Imanol's mom...

I remember him playing with his dad way back in Vivo Por Elena when he was a little tyke.

He was quite the show-biz kid; looked very talented.
