Thank you, Carlos, for the screenshot for today's show!

If anyone wants to send me screenshots on a regular basis, I'd be happy to post them. It can be occasionally or daily. But please, no more than one per episode.

ROTFLOL! Perfect screenshot for this episode. Wow! Espy sure got herself in a pickle, didn't she! Of course, she has pickled brains!!!!!

I felt so sorry for Espe! I mean the guy raped her and the poor thing thinks it's either her fault or that it's a sign from God to get her pregnant (as her maid was trying to get her to believe). I know people don't like her. She's annoying, but she's not a bad person. And it's not like she has a ton of life options. The situation she's in is the best one for her, and she's trying to hold on to it.

Love the way Luis is so up front about his feelings to his mom. She should at least be a bit more careful about her favoritism. Depsite evidence she refuses to acknowledge that Diego may be trying to kill Luis, but she immediately accuses Luis of poisoning Diego.

Why won't Luis tell Hip he's the mystery boinker? Sure, he's afraid she'll hate him, but she hates him now anyway because she thinks he's a lier trying to get into her pantaloons.

Yeah - poor tortured Espy. She has started to believe her own lies. I have to admit Diego had some valid points about la Virgen not specifying who the father should be and that if Luis would't comply then, well, Espy had to do what la Virgen commanded....

But gosh, the maid is even worse! Being happy and congratulating Espy and telling that Diego must have been la Virgen's instrument? What?!? She's even battier in her thinking than Espy! What a pair!

Clever, clever writers.

Great screenshot, Carlos. I agree, Vivi, that Espy is a tragic figure who is not great at making decisions. Her maid seems to have entirely too much influence over her. Espy probably was never allowed to have much control over her life, and now she has been trying to figure out how to hold onto Luis and her position. Luis tasted that wine, but , luckily, he seemed suspicious of Espy's seduction attempt. For a second, it seemed that he might give in as he looked deeply into her eyes and talked about mutual pleasure , but then...no... ''Have a good evening.'' Diego is a demon. Wow, Carla and Monica decided to show Diego retching with about ten people in his room. Like Luis, I would have adjourned to his neato studio apartment....a little indoor plumbing , and I could live there happily. P.S. That long leather coat that Luis wears must weigh a ton. It makes me think of that closet full of leather jackets that FC wore in STuD.

Oh...I thought of a phrase I like : ''Hasta Nunca.''

Where was that annoying , yappy little dog when Espy needed it ?

Ditto that Esperanza is a tragic figure. She's of limited intelligence and emotional maturity. Plays with her dolls or her cat like a youngish 8-year-old. To see her raped by Diego was horrible.

The maid is simply doing her best to try and keep the marriage viable so she doesn't have to accompany Esperanza to the nunnery. Remember that great quote...Maid: Would I have to go with you? Espe: Yes, that's why I bought you.

Can't blame the maid or poor Esperanza for trying to hold on to what they've got. But it's clearly a losing game.

Whoops...yes, Espe has a yappy dog. It's Tia who has the cat.

I noticed the maid took the dog out when Diego entered although she hesitated to leave Espy alone with a man when they were both dressed in nighties, but Diego stared her down until she left. Neither the maid nor the dog were in listening range apparently but Espy did cry out. Maybe they went down to the kitchen so couldn't come to her aid.
I kind of liked the bar scene although did we hear that the assistant villain is merely wounded.

I really liked Hipo's dream. She touches her neck every so often even three years later. Perla is going to be obstinate in holding on to her man, as she imagines him to be and Sister may get a bit less haughty and arrogant now that Hipo has asserted her equality. I liked that scene where she was charmed by the drawing and knows its significance implicitly.

I loved how Hipi described Augie:

rabo verde... dirty old man

Wait'll she finds out he's her daddy.

Watching Diego with Esperanza was very painful and difficult. My memory of it was that he had seduced her. Not that smooth a seduction, was it?

Vicente mentioned the mule again, thanking Luis for taking care of it.

I'm enjoying Isabel every bit as much as the first time around. She's relentless at getting information.

Carlos

There's a whole mule theme going on here. While Vicente has been adamently campaigning for paying for the mule he borrowed, Luis has been comparing Hip to a mule because she has been stubbornly refusing his help instead of saying ''Si, si.'' I am now watching for Hip to touch her throat since it has been pointed out here. Perla knows that Luis has a yen for the pretty new girl in town. Meow. I love this novela , and I'm happy to have a chance to chat about it here with mi amigos/amigas. [Possible caption for the photo : Diego:''What goes well with Love Potion #9?'' Espy: ''Que the hell?''

I just posted the plot developments for today's episode.

It's amazing that Gasca's thug has survived as long as he has. I think he's not cut out for a life of crime. Did you see how he tried to stab Luis? First he jabbed at him while Luis was still 5 feet away. That's a 6-inch blade, Tutz, not a 3-foot rapier. Next he flailed at the ceiling. If he were trying to murder the overhead lantern, that would've worked, but the enemy in front of him wasn't in much danger. Whereas our hero Felipe put the thug out of commission with one thrust, behind his back, nonetheless!

Thanks for the medical advice, Carlos. Hee, hee.

Hipo is having dreams of Luis because she is starting to remember, I guess, and is attracted to him. I hope she listens to the people around her who keep telling her that Luis is a good guy.

I think the little dog is a marvelous actor. He/she maintains a marvelous aplomb despite being hauled around under someone's arm amid shouting, wailing and crying.

The well coiffed cutie appears to be a Shih Tzu (or possibly a Lhasa Apso) but according to most accounts, neither breed appeared in the west until the twentieth century.

Do we know this doggie's name?

In Hip's dream about The Encounter with Luis in Panama, at one point it looked as if his face was visible. Does this mean that eventually she will recognize him?

Carlos, thanks for the translation of rabo verde. That's one I'll really try to remember!

LOVED the title for this ep, Paula!!

Thanks again for the summary and let me also say that I love the title!

Hipo's reaction to her "hubby's" appearance at her bedside surprised me. Was she really that much in love with what's his name? Sure seemed all hot and bothered about him! Am surprised that didn't bother Luis that night: listening to such endearments would have been a turn off one would think! How is it that Luis was able to get a good enough look at Hipo's face that he was able to immediately identify her when he saw her three years later with Martin, yet Hipo could not distinguish him from her hubby? And seriously, she never wondered how it was that pudgy, puffy hubby suddenly had abs and arms (and probably other parts!)of steel?

Faro

Remember, Faro, that Evil Suegra drugged Hipo's sleepy time tea before sending Luis in.

Faro--By the time Hipo starts having her mystery boinker fantasies, she knows it wasn't hubby in her bed. Luis told her so after the deed was done--I am not your husband, which of course makes her fly into a furor.

I think Hipo, as a young virginal bride, was trying her best to be open and available to her husband (Antonio de Guzman). She also had her own fantasies about what a first night should be like and is playing the part.

Furthermore, she and her husband were not on the outs at all. It's the MIL that mereces her odio. Hipo has been puzzled all along by his inability to do the deed.

On the night in question, he told her (upon returning from a trip) that he saw someone who gave him some medicine that he is now taking and he's already feeling better. Hipo asks if this means they will spend the night together and he says, no not tonight.

Hope this helps.

Ahoy all, I just caught up on the Alborada episodes and recaps/comments for this week. What fun, I love marathons! TV viewing marathons that is. Even though I've already seen this one I am amazed at the adept plot development and directing. Everything is simply superb.

Thanks to everyone for the recaps, screen shots and comments.

They finally mentioned cochinilla/cochineal, hooray!!

Hipolita's husband also has similar looks, hair, height & if she hadn't been to bed with him, then she wouldn't know about the other parts, muscles etc, etc, etc.
Suegra chose Luis because he looked similar.
Lucky Hipolita

I should add, Luis just happened to show up due to Diego wanting to kill him.
Lucky Hipolita, otra vez

Diego deserved to retch his guts out after what he dud ti Espy. Too bad he didn't get Montezuma's Revenge as well.

Thank you for the replies. I missed the first three episodes - again! - this time around and haven't properly watched the links provided. I shall catch up this weekend, I hope. Plus my Spanish isn't too great, obviously. Didn't know Hipo was drugged. Yikes! That explains a lot. How lucky she got Luis instead of puffy hubby.

Love watching the little dog. What a scene stealer!
