Maria Finally Says the Magic Word: “Mama!!”
Part 1

Capítulo 170

Caution!  Sugar-high alert!  There’s just so much sweetness and light tonight as we in Viewerville j.i.p. (join in progress) in this evening’s festivities you may need an emergency injection of insulin.  Maria Desamparada, having regained consciousness in her hospital room, is guilted by the realization that at least twice by now Victoria Sandoval has sacrificed her health and safety to rescue Maria from certain danger and/or certain death.  She flops into her trusty wheelchair at the ready and wheels right into the correct room for forgiveness from “Mama”.

“Mama!  Mamita!  Don’t leave me!  Forgive me!”  Vic immediately opens her eyes and smiles wanly.  Through her tears, Maria acknowledges that motherly self-sacrifice not only by walking for hours back to the kidnappers’ hideout with bleeding feet, but now in giving part of her body to save her daughter’s life without asking anything in return, not even Maria’s forgiveness. She has given her a chance to be reborn.  (Come to think of it, Vic has had a pretty rough year.  First the breast and now the kidney.  Maybe she might need to loan out the ol’ uterus and be a surrogate mother for Fer next.  Just sayin’.)  “--Mi peqen~a Maria!”  All is right with the world because she’s finally used that word!  “--You’ve called me ‘Mama!’ ”  Heriberto, still in his scrubs and lookin’ fine, walks in on the scene, congratulates the two of them, and sniffles a bit as he leaves them to bask in the warmth of mother-daughter affection.

Meanwhile, out in the waiting area, Antonieta tells Osvaldo and the others that the two still have to do a few more tests and they’re worried that Vic woke up with some problems from the transplant.  It might take a miracle for her to survive this.

Maria and Vicki hold hands during the tests that Dr. Heri performs.  The results are encouraging.  Maria is fine but Vicki will have to rest for a while and get her strength back.  No fashion shows even if it’s for the Queen of England.

Bernarda, meanwhile, continues on babysitting watch with JPito and chanting with crucifix in hand. (Anyone else channeling visions of the Golden Child and/or the reincarnation of the child Buddha?)

A bit later, Toni, Leonela, Os, Pepi, Fer and Cruz pop in expecting to find Vic and Maria in separate rooms.  They are pleasantly surprised at the site of the two holding hands and sharing the same room.  Toni says this is the miracle they’d hoped for: it’s the triumph of love.  More gushing ensues.  Lots of congratulations all ‘round.  Maria claims it was the miracle of love that saved her and that was able to vanquish all adversity to survive; it was the love she was too blind to recognize or to admit to; the love of a mother to save one’s child at all cost.  Fer says her prayers have been answered.  Cruz races off to call the vecindad and spread the news.

Os mentions he’s got to get to Max’s room to tell him the great news.  Heri enters and chimes in that he’ll go along with Oz to remind Max not to leave the isolation ward and not to come into this room for love nor money.  Oz gives Dr. Sabe-lo-todo a much deserved verbal slam for being the way-too-cheery-interloper.   “I’m very capable of speaking to my son alone!  What you did was no more than your job, so stop playing Super Hero!” Oz leaves but Heri has gotten the message--loud and clear.  Everyone left in the room starts counting the number of scuffs on their sneakers and/or the number of wrinkles in the bed sheets.   Heri shrugs and leaves also.  (His burdens are many but his triumphs even greater…..)

Back in the vecindad, Padre Juan Pablo has just agreed to officiate at Napo and Milagros’ wedding.  The neighbors are all ticked off at the two jarocha’s because they’re hogging the phone and can’t get word about Maria.  PJP calls Cruz to get word and hears about the miraculous recovery of Max, Maria and Victoria.

Oz then gripes about Heri’s supercilious attitude.  Max tells him he thought he’d left home to give Vic a chance to start over again and wonders what happened to change his dad’s mind.  Oz answers that there’s no battle worse than the one you fail to fight.  He still loves Victoria and is ready to fight to win her back.

PJP pays a visit to the recovering mother and daughter.  He points out that this was the miracle he had told her about that Dios had delivered to her, which was in front of her the whole time but which she’d refused to see.  Maria says they’ll be making up for lost time once they’re both out of the hospital.  She’s thrilled now to have what she’s always wanted: a true family!  She has a father, a mother, two children, a sister, and a soon-to-be husband! Who could want for more?

A few days or so later, back at the vecindad, we take a minute for Napo, Cente, Juanjo and Cruz’s papa to give us a PSA about smoking and emphysema.  Napo tells Cruz’s dad he’s taking him back to the doctor.  FF>>

Inside Maria Desamparada’s apartment, she and Max are getting ready for the babies’ baths before their family field trip.  We get another PSA about clean babies and healthy bone development (?)   Maria assures Max that she loves Osguito every bit as much as JPito.  FF>>

Burnie plays with JPito’s toys and misses the little bugger now.  Eva comes in with some tea to quiet her nerves now that the baby’s gone back to his mother.  Apparently Burnie had nightmares and was calling out Juan Pablo’s name the night before; Eva foolishly tries making small talk about it.  Eva asks if perhaps she might have been having more nightmares about burn victims instead.  Burnarda: a definite study in no good deed going unpunished, snarls at her to keep her nose out of what doesn’t concern her.  Eva plays the hurt servant victim.  Burnie admits she doesn’t trust Eva and that she’s fed up with her [harta] and ready to chuck her out on the street at any time.  Eva insists that she has always been discreet about whatever goes on inside those four walls.  Burnie says the old gal knows her well and she and her subservient attitude is getting on her last nerve.  Who the heck does she think she is anyway to take such liberties?  “Why your most obedient servant, of course.”  “Keep your nose out of my business!”

Eva asks a final stinging question about why Burnie seems so obsessed with Hellfire and Damnation.  Is she keeping some deep dark secret that burdens her conscience or is it all just silly nightmares?  Burnie give her a signature slap up side the head and whops her so hard she knocks the old woman out cold.

At breakfast, Fer asks Cruz if he minds adopting.  He reminds her that Dr. Todo told her she’s perfectly capable of having children.

Burnie gets Eva off the bed and screams that she’s nothing but a dog biting the hand that feeds it.  Eva says calmly that her only intention was to give her a chance to think about the situation.  Burnie yells imperiously that she doesn’t need help from some insignificant being like her!  Or hadn’t she noticed she’s one of Dios’s Iluminada?  [enlightened elite of God] Of course she has, says Eva.  Only by being so close to one as learned as she can she have received such a blessing!  She wouldn’t dream of asserting that she knows more or better than Burnie, and her lips are sealed [sellado], permanently.

Cruz is agreeable to giving some needing child from the orphanage a home.  “--A father's not only one who procreates, but also one who raises and instructs.  There’s nothing more I’d like than to see you fulfilled, my love.”  Thank you smoochies ensue.

Napo takes Cruz’s pa back to Dr. Todo, who apparently didn’t do a good enough medical history on his patient the first time around, but seems rather adept at hiding that fact.  For some reason, he didn’t take a lung x-ray and didn’t know/realize/ask himself if the guy was a heavy smoker and might be suffering from emphysema, super-bug TB, cancer.....(What medical school did this guy attend, anyway?  Is that a real diploma on his wall, or a Mexican version of The Impostor.)  He corrects this mistake immediately.

That night, Jimena is really ticked that the mechanic still hasn’t found Ofelia’s skeleton.  She tells him to keep digging and leaves.  Guillermo shows up and asks the kid why he’s nosing around in his back yard.  If he doesn’t spill it right then and there he’s calling the police!  The kid mechanic begs him not to call the police.  Gui smiles evilly back at him.

At the Sandoval manse, Vic decides it’s time to show Maria and Fer her little box of Maria memorabilia.  Maria is overcome once she sees the toddler picture of her that her mother had kept.  Tears and hugs.

The mechanic guy has no choice but to tell Gui that Ji paid him double whatever Gui offered him for the other job.  If she paid him double to find human remains [restos humanos], Gui says, then he’ll pay the kid triple cuz he’s got his doubts about the woman, after all.  And, if the kid wants to stay alive he will do all that he’s asked and stay quiet.  The kid’s lips are sealed.

More mother-daughter bonding back at Victoria’s place.  Fer tells Vic and Maria that she and Cruz are adopting a child.  Everybody is elated.  What a benificent decision!

A few days or so later, Fer and Maria visit the orphanage she grew up in.  Maria tells the nun about Fer’s decision and they go into the playroom to see the little ones.  Fer spies a little girl playing and learns her name is Victoria.  She takes it as a sign that the little girl is The One.

P.2.

Capítulo 171

That evening, Osvaldo pours himself a stiff one and sits down on the couch next to Victoria.  “--Victoria, you don’t love Heriberto.  What you feel perhaps is gratitude, but that’s not love.”  She wants to know how he can be so certain of what she feels.  Oz says he’s known her for twenty years.  She’s been in love with him that whole time and you just don’t change over night.  (Excuse me but it hasn’t been over night.  It’s been months --try at least a year or more.)  Oh?  Why not?  Anyway, Oz, she says, I told you I was confused and that first I had to take care of my children before myself.  Now I can concentrate on myself. But nothing’s changed.  I still don’t know if I love you or not.  Oz sucks it in.

Vic tells him that she doesn’t know if it’s been for love or just for companionship, or like a comfortable habit having him around the house.  Besides, if he really loved her like he says he’d never have stuck his wick in another candlestick.  Then she’d never have kissed another man.  It’s only been the kids that’s kept them together she believes.  He disagrees and says he’s sticking around until he’s certain she’s certain.

The next day, back at the vecindad, it’s a bachelor party for Napo and his buds, complete with sexy blond jumping out of a cake.  All the gals, including Vic, Leo, Toni and Pepi, are inside Maria’s apartment for Milie’s wedding shower.  Oh, man!  What a treat.  Pepi is the prize in spin the bottle.  FF>>

That night, Max finds Vic in her room reminiscing about the past twenty years with Ozzie.  She tells Max she was so busy she never realized when it was that she stopped loving his father.  She believes that if she really still loved him she’d have forgiven him right away for cheating on her.  As it is, she thinks she only used his infidelity as an excuse to hide her disinterest.  Max defends Oz and tells Vic he’s ready to fight for her love.  He says Fer’s gone and he’s about to fly out of the nest himself.  They understand that to stay together real love is necessary.  Vic suggests she could try to make the effort, but Max says true love doesn’t need any effort.  Either way, in the end they will both support what Vicki decides.

The next day Milagros and Don Napo are at the church getting married.  The entire vecindad along with the Sandovals are there.  Vic arrives alone.  Heri is already there and races up to take her arm.  “--Are you alone?”  “--Yes.”  He kisses her hand and walks her into the church just as Oz gets out of his car.  Oz sees the two of them walk in together, arm in arm, and deflates.

The ceremony takes place and then it’s time to PARTAY!!  Oz sits it out with Vic’s posse while Vic and Heri enjoy themselves at their own private table in another part of the hal; and when they dance together they only have eyes for each other.

Vic gets a bit too tipsy and Heri offers her coffee (at his place this time and no doubt thinking ahead as any self-respecting hombre worth his salt in hopes of gettin’ lucky would do) and a ride home (uh-huhhhh) after that.  She accepts.

The coffee takes effect and Vicki’s ready for that lift home--or so she says.  Heri looks longingly in her eyes and asks if she really wants to leave.  Vicki has made her decision.  She looks longingly back at him, remembers Max’s words of support, and says no, she really doesn’t want to leave.  She wants to stay with him.  They kiss and things progress como Dios manda [er...naturally].

As Viewerville plays peeping Tom on the two of them, it would seem that Handsome Heri’s drought is finally over--in fact it looks like that well of water he’s been digging has come a gusher.  Heri rates a 10+.  (How comforting for him to know he’s still got it after veinte an~os and that “it” and all associated parts still function appropriately when needed.....)

Love is definitely in the air that night, cuz when Cente walks Almita back home  the two of them decide to give going steady a try.

The next day, Milie and Napo “honeymoon” by sunning themselves on the rooftop of their building, being fanned with palm fronds by Don Joel and another tenant.  FF>>

Downstairs, in their apartment Fer catches Cruz up about the orphans she saw with Maria. There’s a little girl named Victoria she thinks is adorable and wants to adopt her.  Cruz agrees with Fer that her being named Victoria is a sign from Dios that she’s meant for them.

Across town, back at Vicki’s, the babies are spending a day in the garden with her.  Leonela comes by and asks to join the fun.  Leo thanks Vicki for showing her the true worth of family.  She plans to stay in Mexico near her grandchildren and Max.

Maria stops in at Toni’s to ask her forgiveness also.  She tells Toni she remembers now the blond lady who used to sing her to sleep in her arms.  She knows that was her and recognizes that she’s been like a second mother to her and wants to apologize for purposely ignoring the fact.  Toni is thrilled.

At Burnie’s it’s sherry time.  Roxy and Ji make the mistake of asking Eva for a glass each for themselves, but Burnie gets on their case and says absolutely not!  They’re not going to
sit around there slurping down all her good booze and pigging down all her food. Do they think she’s going to maintain them the rest of their lives?  Despite what they might think, it’s not some hotel and they are neither guests nor lodgers!  No, they’re Moochers [vividora = scrounger, sponger]!  Eva joins in the fray all of a sudden and says they don’t have to take that from this old bag.  She’s leaving too! “--You ungrateful wretch!  All of you get out of my house!  I’m Bernarda de Iturbide and I don’t need you around!  I’m fine with just me, myself and I!  Get lost!  Scram!”

Back at Vicki’s, Toni shows up to enjoy the day since Oscar’s playing tennis with some friends at the club.

It’s Oz who’s playing tennis with Oscar we learn.  He’s playing relentlessly because he’s so filled with rage.  Oscar admits he’s obviously been fully aware of the situation and commiserates.  Talk turns to Gui and the lawsuit. Not much so far, but Oscar assures him that things should fall into place about mid-way through his season when he’ll get closed down.  Gui will lose his entire investment.  Oz is thrilled to hear it.

Toni mentions to Victoria that Maria stopped by and why.

Ji is ready to go and asks what Eva’s doing preparing salad dressing.  Eva says it’s her favorite.  Ji says instead of feeding her that it should be poison!    Roxy wonders where they’re going to stay now.  Eva offers to let Roxy and Ji stay with her in a furnished room she’s going to rent.  They gripe but accept in the end.  Eva puts the bowl of dressing on the table and the three women leave.

Max walks out of the house on his way somewhere and marvels at the happy picture across the lawn.

Vicki tells Toni that she and Dr. Voice warmed up the sheets the night before after the wedding.  Toni wants all the details and the two giggle like teenagers over it.

Meanwhile, back at the club, Oz gets an unexpected call from Pedro the producer.  He has the perfect project in Spain and wants him to fly over to take a role.  It has an impressive international cast and it’s the opportunity he knows Oz has been waiting for.  He’ll have to fly over ASAP, though.  (Oz, I’d say it’s time to cut your losses and get. a. life!  Spain sounds perfect, especially the Costa del Sol!)

Fer and Cruz arrive at the orphanage.  The nun in charge tells them that because they are Victoria Sandovaaaaal’s next of kin, they can adopt right away without the usual waiting period.  Cruz and Fer are elated.  They go into the play area and Cruz and little Victoria hit it off right away.

Eva, Ji and Roxy arrive at the rooming house.  Ji gripes and turns her nose up.  Eva tells her to think instead how at this instant Burnarda is probably munching away on her salad.  Why, asks Roxy.  Because, says Eva, she mixed a very special dressing for her this time.  Ji gets her drift and her eyes begin to shine with a conspiratorial light.

Back at Burnie’s, the table is set and the Holy Terror sits down to eat.  She takes a couple bites of her salad and begins to cough and choke. (Anybody want to guess what Eva mixed into that salad dressing?)  Burnie can’t talk but she is definitely thinking panicked thoughts:  “--I’m burning from the inside out!!  My insides are burning!  Ahhh!  My insides are on fire!!”   She knocks over the chair, gasping for breathe.  She falls to the floor and then blinks and chokes her last--or does she?

End P.2.

Jardinera - Bless your heart, you had to watch two hours of this locura, and still wrote a great recrap. I have enjoyed reading all your recaps thru TdA! Thank you for everything.

The Soup had a small bit on TdA last night. I posted the video site on TN-world and here it is, to copy & paste:
http://www.eonline.com/videos/v167566_the-soup-telenovela-teachings.html
Sweet William was on it, wearing a baseball cap, probably because his hair is shaved, per the previous day's discussion.

I recorded this episode for watchability factor, and found it was a Triumph of FFWD--> Button. So much filler to waste Viewerville's time. Meh.

Bernie did a great death scene, causing much LOL and guffawing at this end, but the promos for Monday night's Gran Por Fin shows her still kicking, and eating broken bottles for breakfast. Gah, she can't be killed, that Energizer bunny, like the UNdead.

Midnight in the garden of Gui and evil continues, and Ximena and the mechanic are busted. Were they even digging down deep enough? yikes.

Nice PSA about adopting, starring Fer & Cruz. Fer's character has been my fav, after the initial Ferskank episodes.

word verification: outrouse
rhymes with 'outhouse' where this telenovela belongs.

Jar! Como siempre...bien hecho!

Loved the thought of Vic providing a surrogate uterus! Wowsers. Vic is something else isn't she?!

Could someone clarify for me when X-Factor got the idea to have this young man dig up Gui's back yard? I know that X-Factor has suspected Gui all along, but did something specific happen and I missed it?

Loved the way Maite P had to struggle to make those tears come out. I'm sorry, while I have no doubt she is all sweetness and light, the whole scene was just...get ready for it: MEH!

Can I assume correctly that Dr. Sabelotodo has 'cured' Leonela of her alcoholism? You know Leonela...the one who was only going to hang around for a few episodes?

Will wait for further comments once Jar gets Part II up and running.

Just think Jar...you and NovelaMaven have the honours of finishing off this little gem of a TN!!!

Gracias,

Susanita

Jar: OT, but could you as a moderator, please delete my comments that I inadvertently posted on the "Telemundo discuss amongst yourselves" portion of the blog?

I tried highlighting it and deleting it, but it won't work.

I would appreciate it greatly.

Susanita

Fabulous Parte Uno!

I will save my comments for parte dos as well.

Doris, thanks for the video link!

I really felt like there was a lot of filler considering how close we are to the end!

I deleted your posts, Susanita. No problem. To delete something you posted, look for the little trash can or just a _ like this at the end of the date and time entry at the bottom of the post.

Jean, thank you so much! I will look for that trash can next time. :))

Susanita

Jardinera: Two hours of TdA, again. I don't know how you do it and still manage to give great recaps to our Teresa line. Thank you!

Jarocha

Thanks you, Jardinera. A great recap, as always.

For some reason I found myself chuckling most last night at Dr. Todo standing between the two gurneys, while our mother and daughter held hands, staring at two vials of blood as if to say, "What the heck are these for, again?"

Really, a hapless ending to this hapless mess, made enjoyable by our recappers.

I look forward to part II.

Your recap was fabulous, Jardinera. It's been a real treat for the run of TdA. I am really looking forward to reading you again during the run of Fuerza.

Now, about this "Final." I fear I am more depressed than satisfied. It just seems like nothing is going to end up the way I wanted. I didn't really care about Max and Maria, but you knew they would end up together. I am really upset about Os and Vic. Back in January they were a happy couple. In love and supporting each other. Then in May/June whenever ever we get this out of left field Dr. KIA story line.

In fact it's been nothing but "out of left field" story lines since what...March, April? I'm just disgusted and sad after last nights episode. *sigh* I didn't realize I was so "Team Os."

Jardinera, great as always

all sweetness & light EXCEPT for Bernarda's demise, What a disappointment, Mejia couldn't even come up imaginative plot for that & he's had months to work on it. She deserved to suffer more.

Well I missed most of this, it's a mistake to watch in bed.

Sorry that I missed the Vic/Heri congressig.
Glad Os is going to Spain, he's a good guy.

I saw The Soup, I think WL was speaking Spanish with a bad accent & also English for comedic effect. I really don't think he speaks that way, in either language, I hope.

So, Dr. Sabelotodo makes love to Vic. Prior to that, Vic (in a rather businesslike fashion) tells dear Oz that there is nothing left of what they once had.

I've made it through all of this TN to see that Vic and Oz probably won't be back together. I've felt all along that Oz has deserved better, but if this is truly the way things are going to play out, then I feel doubly robbed.

It's been mentioned here before that real life Oz is paying for some of his real life behaviours.

I'm sorry, but I think this is a shabby way to 'run' a TN. It is stupid and pathetic.

I don't like it. I don't see what one has to do with the other.

I feel so ripped off that I cannot see straight.

I will have to console myself by saying that the job in Spain is the VERY BEST THING that could happen to dear Oz.

Dear Oz...one of the few characters who actually seemed believable in all he did.

You and Sabelotodo deserve each other, Victoria. You are the first protagonista that has frustrated me so.

It was over for me last night. Who cares about the stupid boda?! Who cares about hearing Ave Maria one last and final time?!

Who bloody cares?!

The only good thing will be reading NovelaMaven's recap.

Susanita

Sara: Amiga, I was typing as you were posting.

I so agree with all of your comments. I can't explain to you how utterly disappointed I was last night.

I don't care one iota about Max and Maria. That story line was over ages ago for me.

Vario: You are absolutely right. Meh-jia had all of this time to do make Bernarda pay for what she has done to others and this is all we get?! It just fries me that you have the Bishop/Cardinal/whatever de-excommunicating her and dear Padre Jer standing by watching the whole thing go down. Padre JP has had a frontal lobotomy and nothing else that has happened to these characters even makes sense?

How about the way Fabian and Luci just rode off into the sunset? Was that believable?! NO...it wasn't?

...and Cruz' father. What in the world did he add to this story except showing us that he could sing on key with an incredible voice?!

Somebody make sense out of all of this for me as I am totally mystified. TOTALLY.

Susanita

UA: You have a lot of 'splaining to do! I am waiting for your post TdA analysis!!!

Susanita

Maybe Fabian & Luci (the actors) said, "I'm done with this shit"

I guess I like pain, so I hang in.

Well, Vario, after all of this time that has been invested, I will see the Gran Por Fin, but there is no excitement to this for me.

I truly ended last night for me. Just going through the motions, my friend, going through the motions.

Susanita

Meant to say 'it truly ended'! I have not ended...I am still here!

Susanita

To add insult to injury, what do you bet we'll have Cruz singing Ave María at the boda?

If this is the way they are handing out punishment, either Jimena o Guillermo will get shot dead & the other will shot him/herself, where is the punishment we so deserve??

ok my word veri is defacals, no kidding

Jardinera thank you so much for taking the time and providing us with so many wonderful and hilariously funny recaps. You deserve a prize for recapping this mess.

So it's always about me Victoria kicks Os to the curb and ends up with Dr.KIA why am i not surprised?

The fact that she brings up Os cheating on her tells me she hasn't forgiven him at all. But who cares let's imagine Os going off to Spain and working on his new project and meeting a hot young thing who truly loves him and he brings her back to meet his children and grandkids. Meanwhile Victoria has grown weary of Dr.KIA well being Dr. KIA and gets jealous seeing Os with someone else besides herself.I like that future for Os better.

Susanita it does seem that is the reason why Meh-jia made this change in the storyline upon what's going on with Os Rios in his personal life. The poll asking who Victoria should end up with was stupid and once again lazy writing from this group of writers.Which is why i so enjoy the group of writers on Teresa and CME both have created and made intelligent stories and they didn't get lazy with their writing.

I can't even say this is a remake of EPDA or the previous version of that one Cristal. Meh-jia has totally warped the story with his own absurd vision of what it should be i wouldn't even compare it to either one of those versions.

Yes from beginning towards now to the end he just ruin this whole novela.

Susanita-It makes me sound like a complete loser to say this, but the ending of this thing has just bummed me out. I have never been so disappointed. Maybe Vic wasn't the greatest for Os, but she's what Os wanted. And I wanted happiness for Os. To make it worse, they used that beautiful theme music of theirs during the "I don't love you scene." I'm getting choked up just thinking about it. *sniff*

I understand that TNs are crazy and I don't have a lot of experience, but I feel so cheated by this one. Completely cheated.

My biggest guess as to why Vic ended up with Dr Voice is actually that they got César Évora to join in to get the ratings up. Given that the Évora-Ruffo couple has its fans due to the success of La Madrastra, that was the plan allong.

I think Osvaldo Sanchez real life issues were a bigger deal in Puerto Rico and the US than in Mexico, actually, but I'm sure that also made it even more difficult for him to get the girl. Especially when the show had much better ratings in the US than in Mexico, were people wouldn't have cared one way or another. As it was proved by the dismal ratings of the last week of the show and the finale here.

Vario: William was speaking with his own accent in Spanish on The Soup but I don't know if he was exaggerating his english.

Jarocha

Oh, and what I said about getting the ratings up with César Évora, I was refering to getting them up in México. But the Évora-Ruffo coupling is also very popular in the US as La Madrastra was also a huge hit there.

Jarocha

Jardineara -- A fantabulous swan song with your Part #2. Thank you!

I'm not convinced Bernie is dead. She was shown in the teasers for Monday night's Por Fin.

Oh noes! I had not even pondered the possibility of yet another bad rendition of Ave Maria at M&M's boda on Monday. Aaaack. FFWD button will be engaged.

Jardinera, thanks for taking us on a re-ride for one last time. I thought Os deserved to win Vicky back, but if she's done, she's done. Que lastima, but he can always hang out with Leonela at family parties. He does need to go to Spain and have a big hit. Laughed at Dr. Heri's parts all working.
Happy for Cruz and Fer. I was afraid that Cruz was going to sing at Milagros' wedding. Nice for Maria to acknowledge Toni. And Eva finally gets some revenge going. Enjoyed Burnie's gasping, hope to see more torment on Monday. So bored with all these people and the clumsy plotting.
So thankful for excellent recappers to keep it together until the end.
La Paloma

Jardinera, I love your stuff. I've been derelict in commenting recently, especially on weekends, but I always read the recaps. I've missed our little exchanges.

Dr. Voice and Victoria... this is just wrong. Dr. Voice is a marginally successful fraud and charlatan. I keep expecting burly young men in white jackets to toss a net over him and haul him away.

Bernarda deserves real flames... not a little heartburn from a few habeñeros. The previews gave me hope.

Carlos

Thanks Jardinera!

I'd like a TdA continuation with Oz meeting up with Pedro and the two of them figuring out that noone has any idea what happened to Ofelia. They can do a mystery story - will they figure out that Gui killed her? Will they hire someone to dig his garden deeply enough? Then Oz & Pedro can each find a great love and live happily ever. Fer & Max's families can live with or near Oz.

Otherwise, I'm disappointed with everything with how this tn is ending. Hopefully, we'll find out what's going with Fausto.

Vario: Right there with you...where is the punishment that some of these fools so justly deserved. Death by Habanero? These writers need to get a grip.

Blusam: ITA! Lazy, lazy, and WEAK writing. It was wrong to do this to the Oz character. Simply WRONG.

Sara: Amiga...I am a loser right there with you!! Maybe Ruffo and Evora where a hot couple back when, but this...this is what we get?! Even the look on Vic's face when she was giving Oz the heave-ho made me want to slap her silly. After all of her whining and 'mi hija' BS, I wanted to reach right in the telly and slap that self righteous look off her face.

So...ITA with you Sara. I feel cheated right along with you. I do think it would be so lovely if Oz would go to Spain; be successful, and come back realising he is much better off without Vic.

Susanita

Jardinera- I echo everyone's praise of this marvelous final double recap, and all the other wonderful recaps you have given us of this tn. You put so much detail and humor into your recaps, which I love.

As for the episodes themselves...well, that's another story. I wish the writers of this tn had put even half the effort you put into writing the recaps. Deciding Os-Vic-Heri's fate by audience vote was just lazy, and did not make sense based on character and plot development. These episodes also felt a lot like filler to me, which is a no no so close to the end.

I did like that Fer and Cruz adopted. I thought that was sweet. I know someone mentioned that in the last version, the Fer character never walks again. I find that a bit harsh, so I'm glad the ony struggle she had remaining was having a bio child. A problem that was solved in a way that makes sense for the story and the characters, and brings things full circle. Good job on that writers. I also liked Maria taking the time to acknowledge and thank Toni.

From the previews it looks like the poison isn't Burnie's end, and she goes out in a blaze. Good.

But so many of her crimes will never be discovered! I can't remember which crimes she admitted to Padre Jer and which ones JP found out about, but I bet not even half of them will ever be known by anyone before she meets her inevitable demise. And Gui better found out for Ofelia's murder, and Xi for Linda's murder.

Burnie's Crimes:
-Killing Fausto's parents and injuring/burning him
-Killing her husband
-Running down Vic and Maria
-Killing her maid
-Attempting to murder all the people in Maria's apt building, resulting in the death of firefighter Israel
-Killing Padilla's son and paralyzing Fer
-Kidnapping JPito
-Kidnapping Vic and Maria

Anything I missed? How many of these will actually come to light before Burnie meets her inevitable end? I know I will not be satisfied with whatever "justice" is doled out to her.

Oh, and Killing Alacran. She also set up Padilla to be gunned down by the police, but that was his own stupid fault.

Mariquita and Susanita-Thanks for helping me pinpoint what is bothering me: I bet Os is going to end up going to Spain and will be far from his children and nietos and Vic is still close to them. That really bothers me. I really really liked the Os character. Alonso too. I know he was creepy, but for a while there he was the only one with any sense.

Here's how I would rather everything had gone down:

Linda was sleeping with Os AND Gui. She discovers Gui's theater fraud and is killed by Gui who frames OS. During the trial, Os and Vic work through their problems, he is found innocent and they live happily ever after.

And since I'm re-writing:
The Max and Jimena marriage was really the better plot device to keep Max and Maria apart. They divorced long before this novela ended which made it seem really odd that the wedding never happened. I wish they had kept the Xi contra Maria thing going a little longer.

Excellent thoughts, Sara!!

Susanita

Hola Jardinera...another tour de force. No surprise. You're whipping out treasures every week. I don't watch this (God forbid! even the previews make me nauseous) and only sporadically read the recaps BUT I too am deeply disappointed that Os and Victoria didn't get back together. Crazeeey. But I'm a "forgiveness Nazi" (UA's wonderful phrase) and I was really hoping that Vic would truly forgive and fall in love again with the hubster. Not to be.

Just let me add that your title of the recap-to-come "It's Not Soup Yet" from the other day was wonderful. Still makes me laugh, just thinking of it.

Buenos, y'all!. Thanks for all the warm wishes and compliments. Weekends wouldn't be the same for me without you!

I have had a few weekends off, courtesy of the mini-gigantes. I am so done with this Meh-ss. This man never disappoints us, does he? I've never seen anybody so able to totally warp and butcher a story like he does. It makes me wonder if the guy is tripping on a hidden stash of very powerful herbal remedy when making these things. Definitely resting on his laurels.

Not that I cared for the Vic/Oz combo--I felt she treated him like her lackey and he was driven to have the affair. The more she rejected him the greater he groveled. NOT COOL, Ozzie. Get thee off to Spain and international fame. Find another lady love like Linda and make it official this time!

Now, yes, I admit to being part of the crowd who loved VR and CE in La Madrastra. I think he's marvelously masculin/macho still and just in a more mature way. As for kicking CE to the curb, this story has been Victoria's journey to self-realization and she chose the correct way, and on her own terms. Anyway, how could she resist a KIA soul-mate like Dr. Sabelotodo? A sweetie like Oz deserves a nicer gal. Sooner or later, after a much needed few hours on a Psychiatrist's couch, he'll realize this and feel true release and freedom--at least I hope so!

Sorry this took so long, but I was out all day yesterday and retired early due to lost sleep the night before. Here goes:

The tearful forgiveness, reconciliation, etc: Standard novela stuff, including all the maternal platitudes and references to the Virgencita. We had to expect this.

EPDA difference: The equivalent scene with Adele Noriega and Helena Rojo was shorter and more dignified.

Bernarda gave JPito back to Maria: Of course she had to in order to convince JP that she had repented. However, Eva was treading on dangerous ground asking whether she dreams of hell. Bernarda is still committing blasphemy with her claim of being an illuminada de Dios, so she's bought her ticket to Hell.

Fernanda: Why are you (along with so many protagonistas) so hot to have kids so soon? Take some serious couple time with Cruz, like at least until he gets his veterinary license and you can have a bigger place to live.

Victoria and Osvaldo: These two do belong together; Victoria is afraid of her own feelings. Or is Victoria Ruffo asking herself “What the hell went wrong with this part of the story?”

Milagros' and Napos' pre-wedding fiestas: Again, would have been cute earlier; just plain silly now. Was their wedding done as a contrast to what Max and Maria's will be in the last hour? Love the dance music, though.

Prof. Joel fanning Milagros with the palm frond: That's what he gets for disemboweling a volume of Shakespeare.

Victoria Chooses Dr. Sabetodo: I completely agree. If this was the result of an audience poll, it is lazy writing of the worst kind. It also made no sense to the story's theme of forgiveness and might be about what's going on with Osvaldo Rios off-camera. The latter point would have been more significant if it would have forced Rios out of the series at the midpoint; this close to the finale it's only a token warning.

EPDA difference: Luciana reconciled with Andres. I'm saving my dissertation on forgiveness for later.

Fer and Cruz adopt little Victoria: This does make sense for the themes of the story and the cliché of novela couples having children quickly. Is her name a sign? I think so because the next Victoria will have loving parents and not suffer the horrid fate her new grandmother did at her age.

Osvaldo goes to Spain for a movie shoot: He needs a career boost and a vacation from the madness.

Leonela stays in D.F: This does make some sense, as she has just almost lost her son permanently and now wants to be near him. She is now a grandmother and needs to get along with Victoria. Osvaldo is no longer an issue between them. Is this enough for her to stop drinking? Only when her biggest enablers are gone (and we know who they are).

EPDA difference: Barbara went into rehab.

Bernarda evicting Ximena and Rox: Wonder what took her so long. Their stupidity should have gotten on her last nerve.

Eva plans Bernarda's final exit: Burning from the inside out sounds like a good start (but we know from the previews that it's only that).

EPDA difference: There was no Eva; Tamara and her mother never stayed in Ana Joaquina's home and may not even have interacted with her.

Since lots of you mentioned the advances, I felt obliged to add the "or does she?" to the end of this. I generally don't like mentioning what comes after and don't always watch them, but they're part of what's aired, so go what the hey.

Vivi,

...and killing Mother Superior.

Carlos

UA-I am thisclose to buying EPDA on DVD and watching it, but I know it will be butchered so I just don't know if it's worth it.

Thanks Carlos. Knew I was forgetting something. There will be no justice for Mother Superior because NO ONE will ever know she was murdered, unless Eva spills the beans.

Thanks for the comparisons to EPDA Urban. Really interesting.

Thanks, for those lists! There have been so many killings in this tn it's a wonder anybody can keep count!

UA: Thank you! I always enjoy reading your dissection of these TN and appreciate the time and thought you put into it. It's one of the many things about this wonderful blog that I enjoy so much.

I had to laugh at myself this morning. Here I am...a hard working professional who is now so involved in the TN that I could not contain my outrage yesterday at the butcher job handed to us on a platter by Meh-jia.

I'm not sure what it is about the TN that engage me in this way, but I am not ashamed to admit it. My colleagues think I have gone absolutely crackers the way I look at the clock to see if I will make it in time for 'my' TN.

Frankly, I was hoping that either one of these men would have pulled a Rhett Butler on Vic. Now that...would have been entirely plausible and pleasing to me.

I am bracing myself for the fact that all of Bernarda's crimes won't be discovered and Padre JP will not recover from his lobotomy.

This is when I really wish we could have the usual 'Cristina' debriefing at the end of the TN. I think Cristina would have really probed these actors for some answers as to what went wrong.

I'd so love to see Cristina question Meh-jia himself, but alas, it is not to be.

Susanita

How did JPito get reunited with María? Did PJP take him from Bernarda?

On The Soup, the best significant glance was JPito, that baby is so adorable.

Susanita,
I am in the same boat. I get overly involved in the TN I am watching, too. I don't know why, either. I spent most of Saturday trying to figure out why the whole Os/Vic thing should have left me so bereft. I never figured it out.

I've also been spending waaay to much time thinking of how this one could have been sooo much better. First step: cut at least 25 episodes.

I've already mentioned my Os/Vic rewrite. Here's my Max/Maria/Xi/Alonso rewrite.:

Max marries Xi thinking it is his child he's pregnant with. Maria and Alonso slowly grow close. Meanwhile, Xi's baby is born with mulitple health problems. Max, still believing the baby is his, stays in the marriage. He and Maria have one "weak moment" and make love. Maria, in her sadness, agrees to marry Alonso...but they never consummate. Maria later finds out she's pregnant. Alonso is willing to accept child as his and actually joins forces with Xi to keep the two apart. Of course, Max thinks the baby is Alonso's and rejects Maria for a while. (In my version there is no history between Xi and Al and Al sort of becomes a villian, but in the end recognizes the error of his ways and is redeemed, not punished.)

I know it's terribly cliched, but surely it's marginally better than Meh-jia.

PS: In my version, Alonso has also been around since day 1 as a photog for Casa Vic.

Sara: Amiga, I know that misery loves company, but I am glad we are in the same boat together! I really do like what you outlined for the Max/Maria, etc characters here. MUCH better story line than what we were given.

Susanita

Sara i suggest you keep checking Univision late night or Telefutura one of them is sure to rerun EPDA again. As a matter of fact i believe Telefutura last showed EPDA last year a couple months or so before TDA started over here.

My criticism is that EPDA was still fresh in alot of people's mind who have seen it. Also Meh-jia made some terrible decisions with his casting.

Major one being Victoria Ruffo she was ill suited for this role. Next being Domineka Paleta did not enjoy her performance as Ximena. Gui everytime he was making out or having sex on his shag rug with what he consider his own personal sex kittens i cringed and was totally grossed out too much of that.

Loved the actor playing Fausto but felt he was too young looking maybe they should have made him look older than PJP like he was supposed to be.

Daniela Romo and the actor playing Padre Jer were the best things about this for me.

PJP was at first likable but grew beyond someone who needed to be locked up as well for willfully ignoring that his mother was truly a homocidal monster.

Loved the Cruz and Fer storyline and the actress playing Fer has a bright future. The only stupidity about their story was Cruz being silent about his sexual harassment from his music manager.

I did miss LindaHo' another stupid decision to kill her off because of how turned off the women viewers were by her. Once again lazy writing here by these writers.

Os Rios also did a great job of redeeming himself from being self centered and a caring father and husband to a undeserving Victoria.

Looks like Fabian did over stay his welcome if this was what his ending was going to be like.

JJ and Nati they should have kept her single just like in EPDA if they were going to stick her with a blockhead like JJ.

Napo,Millie and the gang really bored by their story.

Toni felt she was more a enabler and did try to make Victoria see the error of her ways.

Roxana got more lines in this one than she did in EPDA and i was also having a hard time understanding the actress but we learned the reason why.

The babies were cute but the survival of baby Osguito kind of also changed the dynamic of the storyline. It was one of the reasons why in EPDA the Max character stayed with the Ximena character out of guilt.

The other Maria leaving and going to start a life elsewhere when she was discovered to not be Victoria's missing daughter made no sense.

The padilla and Alacarn characters were typical stereotype novela villains.

Was disturbed by the Leonela bathtub scene was this really necessary?

Dr. Voice unnecessary character for this story.

Finally Max and Maria sorry they just lost all of the chemistry they had in CCEA i don't know if it was Meh-jia, the writing or the directing but the chemistry was definitely missing for Maite and William in this one.It got a little flicker of some embers lighting up for these two but it quickly burned out. Sorry i don't feel saying i Te Amo for every scene you are in together is all that romantic. I felt a lot of times they weren't being directed or even given any lines to say.

Overall i would never watch this dreck again i would rather sit out back and watch my grass grow or watch paint dry on the wall before ever watching this novela again. I did love the theme song though.

Blusam: Love all of your comments! I, too, also love "Tres Palabras".

For now, it is just a beautiful song that has nothing to do with this wretched train wreck.

Susanita

Re the EPDA DVD: I gave it a positive review on Amazon only in terms of how good it is compared to other DVDs of novelas. The story is ooherent, but the problem with these is that the editors have forgotten that viewers watch not just for love scenes but for the great confrontations.

Max & Ximena: Someone made the point earlier that in EPDA Victor Manuel was stuck with Tamara to the end and could not have married Christina until the finale episode. That made the delay believable. However, the presence of a live infant made a DNA test easy and the results made the divorce easy. While the infant was probably meant to demonstrate proof of a lack of maternal feeling in Ximeana, it was shortsighted to fail to recognize that there would be story consequences to this decision which would either end up unbelievable or would have substantially changed the subsequent events in the story.

Hey
What UA said

Urban exactly it was like there was no forethought to what would happen to the storyline with all of the changes he made or that he just didn't care enough about how the audience would react to his changes.

Too me it shows a lot of arrogance to change the story this drastically and think the audience will readily accept these type of changes. I think he thought having a little audience participation in asking their opinion about who Victoria should end up with. Or deciding to kill off the LindaHo' character makes him think that he is getting some type of response from those who are watching it. Plus that people are still watching his novela but ratings don't lie.

In the case of killing off LindaHo' i really didn't understand this decision since a lot of novelas have the same type of slutty character.

I'm not saying in remaking novelas there aren't alot changes made in the new updated version. But some times there are done intelligently and are more believable than what he made this one out to be.

Blusam- agree on all your points. And the music for this one was very very good. I loved Mi riqueza, despite it's overuse and Tres Palabras is just beautiful. I daresay I liked it more than the Golondrinas Viajeras used for STuD (tho STuD had great incidental music...I still miss it. lol)

UA-I creep closer to buying EPDA on DVD. I only have Univision available to me. It would be nice if they ran it after Destilando Amor currently running (tho I'm not watching it.)

Methinks the audience poll would not have happened if there hadn't been poor writing that led to low ratings.

LindaHo got her death sentence because she got greedy and vicious about her seduction of Osvaldo. It wasn't just about bleeding him for expensive gifts, it was a nasty one-upwomanship game with Victoria. To top that off, she had the nerve to do that while working for Victoria. Her EPDA counterpart wasn't even close to this... and she was the one to get breast cancer.

UA: I think you are probably correct with your line of thinking. It is certainly the most plausible.

Funny enough...Vic was actually likable during the Linda Ho days, but started to lose her lustre when she used X-Factor to gang up on Maria D.

As for 'desamparada', I'd like to NEVER hear that word again!

Susanita

I just located Capitulo 1 of EPDA on youtube and watched the first few minutes and know I am fully aware of how bad TdA was. Crazy stuff: they actually used younger actors in the "20 years ago" segment. *sigh*

I still think I might go with the DVD. I'm just not sure I could sit in front of a computer for that many episodes (split into 3 and 4 parts no less.)

J:

Thanks for the recap. I too felt robbed when I watched this. I felt that just because of that stupid poll, we don't get to see Os and Vic get together and are treated to Jabba the Hut in bed.

Cindy

Cindy: I love it! Jabba the Hut, indeed!

I changed channels during that 'love' scene.

Susanita

Word Verification: messes! Oh my yes!

They should have used Maite P. as young Victoria at the beginning of the program. Especially since Toni thoughtbubbled that Maria reminded her of young Victoria.

They should have had baby Osguito die. With all the pills and drugs Ximena took plus the dragging, he should have died. If baby Oz had died, then Ximena could have guilt tripped Max into staying with her and that would have made Max/Maria's wedding not occuring more believable.

Fausto should have been played by somebody older than PJP, like maybe that actor who played Remigio on Corazon Salvaje '09. Fausto looked like one of Max & Maria's contemporaries (i.e. 20+ years YOUNGER than PJP)

All of the Don Joel/Jarocha scenes wee unnecessary.

Osvaldo/Victoria/Dr. Voice/Leonela: I would have had Dr. Voice end up with Leonela, and Victoria & Osvaldo end up with no one. Both Osvaldo & Leonela are needy & need a lot of attention, so they wouldn't be good together. Victoria is not going to pay Osvaldo the kind of attention he needs. That's why he cheated on her in the first place. Dr. Voice could give Leo the attention SHE needs. Osvaldo needs someone who's going to pay him a lot of attention and that person is not Victoria.

To have had Maite Perroni play the young Victoria wouldn't have worked because it then would have been too easy to identify Maria as Victoria's daughter in the 20-years-later part of the story. What would have been needed was another young actress who looked like Victoria Ruffo. Not hard to find, I'm sure.

Unless... the next version of this story could be developed as a period piece.

This entire series has a long list of casting hit-and-misses and I agree with the previous comments about Fausto. Luis Gatica would have been a far better choice for this role; good call.

If Victoria and Osvaldo would have ended up alone at the end of the story, it would have been more logical as a demonstration of consequences for their relationship errors. That would also mean that neither would have learned a thing about relationship management.

I am not in favor of egomaniacs marrying acolytes who worship them and don't challenge them on their crap because it only makes for more narcissism for one and more pain in the long term for the other.

TN's are a great teacher of vocab. We will never forget what desamparada means. Sortilegio will stay with me "para siempre" also.

Once again, thank you, mil gracias, to all the recappers, I never would have made it though this crap w/o you.

Hasta La Fuerza del Destino

I don't think it's necessarily that Osvaldo needs an acolyte. If he wanted that, he could easily get back with Leonela.

But he wants Victoria's attention, and she's simply not going to give that to him. She was able to open up to Dr. Voice in a way she was never able to with Osvaldo.

When things have happened with Victoria, good or bad, she ran and told Dr. Voice first, not Osvaldo. IMO she was more open with LEONELA than she was with Osvaldo!

And now that Little Pequena Maria has been found, Victoria is just going to shift her attention from Casa Victoria to Maria, Max, Fer and their kids, with Dr. Voice on the side.

Osvaldo's not going to have Victoria's attention so he needs to find someone who will pay him some mind. Cuz that person is not (and has not been for the entire run of the show) Victoria.

(I do not believe that Victoria is in love with Dr. Voice, either).

Had there never been a LindaHo, Victoria would be with Osvaldo. Or, had she not actually caught them in the act.

As long as you don't see an act of adultery in progress, it's still theoretical. It's possible that she can't get that picture out of her mind.

Wow nothing like a crappy semi final to get us all commenting. I had sugar overload from the reunion - predictably.

Team Os loses after all. Poor Os looks to be going off to Spain to be a big star and leaving his kids and grandkids -BOO HISS!

Vic actually loses by choosing Dr. Almighty. Her dream was to have her house full of her kids and grandkids with them all running around and laughing. Not much chance of that with the gigantic stuffed shirt around to lecture at every chance. God forbid anyone has a glass of wine or a cerveza or it will be all Alcoholic Rehab for them.

Death by poison is too easy for MOAP. She needs to go into a church and be stuck by lightening. Anything less will be a let down.

Two hours more and I will be liberated from this mess and probably from anything produced by Televisa. Telefutura/Telemundo here I come.

Dani, your latest post reminded me that Mejia has put supernatural stuff like that in past novelas. Being struck by lightening The exorcism scene in Abrazame Muy Fuerte comes to mind.

UA: Absolutely agree that Vic cannot get Linda Ho out of her brain. It is permanently embedded in the deeper recesses of her mind.

Anon207: Also agree that Vic does not love Dr. Voice. I'm not sure who or what Vic loves, but it is not Dr. Voice and she will never give Oz the attention he seems to need. Though, he has managed pretty darn well on his own.

UA: I am WAITING for your post train wreck analysis. I have a feeling that I will need to really get this TN out of my system.

Vario: Honestly, I don't know about Fuerza. I think I will just stick with "Teresa" and CME for now. Zepeda surely interests me, but I think I am just on TN fatigue at the moment thanks to TdA. Btw, I saw the foto of WL/Max with his new haircut. Interesting is about all I can say.

NovelaMaven: I am WAITING for your recap, amiga. I know it will be good...I just know it!

Susanita

N.B. Looks like Don Francisco will be interviewing Perroni and Levy this evening after the Gran por Fin.

Susanita

someone plz translate what was said on don Fransco, with the cast of the show of trinfo. Thanks

I am hoping to hear "Florecita de Mi Vida" one more time. Otherwise, I think I'll be disappointed with everything else.

I think MP is adorable; it never occurred to me that her nose was
anything but delightful. She is a tiny girl, and my criticism would be that if in fact she surgically enhanced her breasts, she overdid it. She appears a little top heavy
for her size. It's fabulous for her that she has a musical career as well. I hope she makes a wise choice for a mate.
