Triunfo del Amor #168 7/27/11 PJP, Vic, the Bishop-Full of Fail;Lulu-forced into Fail; Padre Jer-Full of Win

It's been a long, crazy bumpy, unpredictable (thanks, Looneyvision) ride. I got a little teary as I heard "Oye la confesion" for the last time as a TdA recapper.

Bonus Link: Have ya'll heard about The Tinfoil Hat Song? Or am I way late on this?

There are just no words for tonight's basura. What an episode to end my recaps on.
Refrito

  • Burnie diapers.
  • Os transports Lulu.
  • Max bleeds and faints.
  • Heri barks orders.
  • Pip whines.
Tonight's crimes against humanity.
  • Vic and Leo cry about their children and go to the chapel to pray to the Virgen of Guadalupe.
  • Toni offers to take care of the babies and Fer has to break the news to those waiting in the Alonso del Angel Memorial waiting room that Burnie took JPito from the caretakers of the Vecindad.
  • Vic can't believe it! She's gonna go to Burnie's and get her nieto back! Toni asks if she wants her to go with her. No, says Vic. I have to take care of this personally. Vic leaves Leo in charge of Max and Maria while she's gone.
  • Burnie is begging PJP to intercede for her with the bishop. She wants the excommunication lifted. PJP it's only a matter of her truly repenting and asking for forgiveness. She swears she is repentant. She has to be able to take communion again. Christ is so far from her. Her life has no meaning without him. PJP says if she is sincere he will help her all he can. He will go to the bishop today.
  • At this point Vic barges in and demands the baby. Burnie is offended that Vic is treating her like a delinquent. Vic asks for back up from JP. "you know she took that baby by force." PJP in a stunning turn of stupidity defends his mother. He says she was just caring for the baby. Vic says it's not necessary now because Toni will do it. Burnie objects. Toni isn't even family. PJP still defends his mother. Toni won't take better care of the baby than Burnie. Burnie calls Vic prideful and begins an offensive. Vic says she's not as evil as Burnie. PJP starts up with God gives second chances. Vic is all dude you are blind! Blind I say! Your mother will never change! Ji overhears all this and hears them talking about Max and Maria's condition. Burnie starts up about signs from God and is is superseded by Ji's thought bubble. She compares Max and Maria's grave state to Romeo and Juliet and hopes they die together.
  • Gui is at the theater wanting to start the rehearsal and wants to know where Leo is. No one knows. From the balcony (5ft...help me out, you know theater terms-- isn't that the peanut gallery?) Ji asks if he needs an understudy. Gui asks if she knows Othello. Why yes she does. She's read it and knows all the lines. Well the costume is in Leo's dressing room. Suit up. You're going in, Ji!
  • Vic is still angry. She doesn't care how repentant Burnie is, she wants her grandchild back. She fusses at PJP and says he should be on her side. He can't deny a soul their return to God. Vic insists that is not his mom's true motive. Burnie interrupts. So what *is* my true intention? To hurt JPito? Of course not. Everyone knows he's with me. If something were to happen I would be the first suspect. You really didn't think about this. You are so  stupid. Burnie knows Vic hates her and the feeling is mutual. She hates Vic. She wishes Vic would disappear. It would make her life easier. PJP has a headache. He blathers about reconciliation and I stopped listening for a bit. He ASKS VIC TO ALLOW BURNIE TO TAKE CARE OF JPito AND VIC AGREES! Asshats.
  • The death scene from Othello. Gui complements Ji. She is a natural (the selfish, manipulative ones usually are.) Ji hints broadly that he should ask her for a drink. Gui takes a rain check. Ji takes it graciously and excuses herself. I didn't catch Gui's thought bubble but I believe is was along the lines of Ji didn't do anything BSC. This can't be good.
  • Vic returns to the Sandoval Pavilion and fills everyone in. Burnie has just as much right to the child as she. Everyone looks dubious. Including Viewerville
  • Burnie is meeting with the bishop. She is begging for forgiveness. She knows she was wrong. blech.
  • Ji watches Gui talk to and pay  a mechanic outside the theatre. She is suspicious.
  • Burnie repents and repents and repents. She will never sin again. The Bishop asks all the required questions and Burnie gives all the "right" answers (not necessarily the "true" ones.) The bishop reminds her that if she's lying her soul will suffer eternally. Burnie slips him a little check for the priests. Suddenly the Bishop is praising the day. Heaven has opened up.
  • Ji wants to talk to the mechanic.
  • The bishop is blessing Burnie. They are color coordinated! Jer looks sick. Burnie turns to the santo bebé that has brought peace to her heart and just as the bishop blessed her, she will bless the baby. Hot cross awesomesauce! The po po arrives and they want Burnie!! She has a date with justice!
  • Burnie is pretty smug that she is going to weasel out of whatever trouble the cops thinks she's in. Jer asks for a moment with Burnie and tells her straight up that he didn't believe a word she said to the bishop. Cajones-Jer haz them.  Burnie says they have a debt to settle and one day, God willing, they will settle it. Jer asks, what are you going to do, kill me? (Uh-oh. The sword of Damocles has been over his head since, what...February?)
  • Ji asks the mechanic why Gui paid him. To fix a car of course. He starts to leave. Ji says she'll pay double if he will do a job for her.
  • At the police station Os is assuring Lulu that everything will be fine. Burnie walks in and hoo boy if looks could kill. Lulu cowers. Os says the cops want to know all about her badness.
  • Burnie watches the video and denies everything. It's all lies! There is no proof! Lulu was always jealous of Burnie and her fine clothes and jewelry. She browbeats Lulu into recanting her statement.
  • Did I hear right? Ji wants the mechaninc to look for human remains in Gui's Garden?
  • Lulu and Os are alone in the police station. She is sorry for letting him down. He understands. Burnie is crazy dangerous. He gives Lulu cash and a check to help her move and get as far away from Burnie as possible. Um...weren't the Sandovals broke when Vic and Maria were kidnapped? That check is gonna bounce, Lulu.
  • Burnie is explaining to the bishop that is was all a misunderstanding. This latest accusation is a complete lie! I woman was jealous and accused me falsely. Sure, they thought she kidnapped JPito, but why would she do that? Kidnapping is terrible! PJP himeself can tell you that Vic herself said she could take care of JPito (um, does she realize Lulu was talking about the first kidnapping?) PJP backs her up. Burnie asks, do you think Vic would let me take the baby if she had any doubts? Poor Jer is is disgusted throughout this whole exchange. Btw, when did PJP get the lobotomy. The bishop has had the Kool-Aid and totally buys her crap. He blesses her as she leaves. She is so relieved that her soul has nothing to fear. She tells Jer she doesn't have hard feelings against anyone, even if they don't feel the same.
  • Everyone is waiting to find out what is up with Max. Heri comes in with the results. Max has the mystery Alonso virus. Vic asks him to confirm that they've caught it in time and the children will survive. Sadly, virulence and intelligence are inversely proportional. Max has the intelligence of a burrito and is already in stage two of the disease!! (Off topic: Leo is still in her clothes from the bienal, but Vic isn't...huh?) Max's situation is more delicate and dangerous than that of Maria Desamparada. They are doing everything they can. Suddenly there is some Swiss lab specializing in the virus and they are even working on a vaccine, but they don't know the side effects. It's all they have. Vic trusts Heri completely. When the vaccine arrives, they will treat Max first then Maria, but no one knows how they will react to the vaccine. They may each react differently. Heri leaves and Leo and Vic tell each other their children won't die and cry.
Cue the kayak!

Sara, thank you for the fabulous recap, which confirmed what I thought I saw and heard. Such random crap, just flung upon the screen, causing me weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth.

I truly tried to reach into the screen and choke Bernie. I was pleased that Jer looked skeptical and was incredulous that Padre JP turned totally stupid. Why bother with Lulu and let her be intimidated? Where's Eva when we need some vengeance?
La Paloma

Oh my, Sara. You acquit yourself with your usual style and snark, but what an episode to end your run with! It would have been profoundly depressing if it weren't such a hoot.

Yes. When, indeed did PJP get a lobotomy?

So Desdemona hires a thug to dig up Ofelia in Otelo's garden. Who says this isn't a classy show?

When CasiTodo announced that Max was in stage two, I just started giggling and it was hear the words.

Thank you so much for your wit and knowledge. It's been a pleasure.

well we are almost to the end of this mess.........i love it though and am going to miss it.....the other day i caught myself repeating Victoria........"Mi hijaaaaa".......i am hoping Burnarda burns in hell at the end for telling all her lies and those who died at her hands.....Guillermo dies by Jimena and jimena gets hit by the red car that took out Linda ho.......I want Osvaldo to go to spain and become a big successful movie star because success is the sweetest revenge....and victoria to hook up with Dr. sabetodo they deserve each other.....i don't know why i don't like him.....I feel he pushed himself on us in this novela and ends up one of the good guys......just my views on all this..........as for the tropical virus that going around does Dr. sabetodo not think its good for all to get the vaccine.....everyone hung around alonso....even the babies....duh.......BNinCA

thanks Sara for the recap........hope to read u on some other novela in the future.....u r great....BNinCA

Sara: I don't know how you did it, but you were great!

I think I was really talking to the telly tonight. SUCH BASURA!!!

Padre JP left me speechless...absolutely speechless. He was a dork; a dope, and a fool. The nonsense he was spewing at Vic just about made me want to scream.

I couldn't take it anymore...I have never been so sick of a TN as I am of this one.

It's not fair! This is just a horrible way to end all of this; horrible.

IT'S NOT FAIR!!!!

Susanita, The Innocent

And thanks for posting the Tinfoil Hat song! Loved it and made my daughter watch it. And then we laughed together.
La Paloma

Susanita, I agree so much with you "it isn't fair". I will never watch another mija novela again. I waited for oz to reconcile with Vic, even though she did not deserve him. there was never any fun time between maria and max. It was always stress. Fer and cruz actually showed more fun and love for each other and more constructive. Berni stays in to the end, instead of at least giving us a few nights of bliss without her bull...T. I was sooo disappointed in Padre. He knew she burn't fausto's parents to death, so if we only went by that, why would he let her have his grandchild? AND wouldn't the grandmother have more rights to a child than the greatgrandmother?

Ah, been waiting for this, Sara; gracias. Off I go with the beginning of the end of my postings on this series. The following events have no equivalents in EPDA:

Bernarda grabbing the baby. JP should have taken his nieto away from Mommie Direst and Victoria should not have agreed to allow Bernarda to care for him. Although they know she won't hurt him, they both have to wonder what her selfish, creepy agenda is. It's too bad JP didn't walk in on her Satanic-style prayer; that might have been enough to creep him out. I'll bet Mommie Direst knew that.

The bishop lifting the excommunication. Shame on Juan Pablo and the bishop. JP should have known better and the bishop was yielding to the temptation of the check for the seminary. I cut him a sliver of slack because he can't know everything about Bernarda that Padre Jeronimo knows. Kudos to Padre Jeronimo for not falling for Bernarda's lies and for having the cojones to confront her about it with that confident smile.

Question of the day Was there ever an excommunication before FELS? Did that break a previous TV taboo? Enquiring minds want to know.

Bernarda's arrest. Somebody please tell me that this isn't how it's done in Mexico. In no major US city would the police have a detainee in the same room as a witness or an accuser, especially during questioning. As for allowing Bernarda to handle the cell phone, ¡por favor! How could that detective permit this and how could he fail to recognize Bernarda's intimidation of Mama Lulu and stop it? It looked like Osvaldo knew better and not just about the facts of the case. This scene was beyond absurd (but not unique to this novela). Also, "no money" is a relative term.

Ximena hiring the gardener to help look for Ofelia's body. If you're so smart, Loca, what took so long? And where did you get the money to pay this guy?

Dr Rios-Bernal describes the behavior of viruses and vacines. This is actually true, at least with regard to hepatitis. They do behave differently in each patient.

What became obvious to me about this absurd medical scenario is that it's meant to reconcile not only Maria and Victoria, but Victoria and Leonela as they unite in prayer for their children. Persosnally, I would have had the two of them go after Bernarda to get baby JP back. I'm sure by now that Leonela knows Bernarda and Ximena are both dangerously insane.

Sara, bravo! Well done.

Once again, I could not stop laughing during this episode-- PJP suddenly becoming stupider than a pile of rocks; Burnie in custody for less than 2 minutes; and Max in Stage 2 of the mysterious dreaded Alonso Disease!

The only thing that made it worth watching this episode was Padre Jer. I love that guy. His face conveyed everything I was feeling while watching Burnie spew her bs and seeing the Bishop and PJP buy into it. I also loveed seeing little JPito. He's always cute. In this episode he had three objections, which he accomplished, unlike everyone else's failures: 1) Make the horrible Xi change his diaper and get her in trouble with Burnie; 2) Get a hold of one of Burnie's earrings; and 3) Coax the bottle that PJP was holding just out of reach, while entranced by Burnie's bs, into his mouth. Oh, and 4) Look cute. Mission accomplished!

three *objectives*

...although I'm sure he had lots of objections to what was going on too. :)

Tks Sara
Slept through this entire mess.

Vic tells Bernarda that Toni will take care of JPito??????????
Why wouldn't Vic take care of him, she hasn't come down with the Alonso virus yet.

Fasten your seat belts, it's only going to get worse, but only 2 more days.

3 more nights, 4 hours

Sara - Thank you for yet another wonderful, snarky recrap (not a typo). I will miss them (but not TdA). Let's all hope we don't catch the mystery Alonso virus, just from watching this tontería.

OMG Sara, I loved the Tinfoil hat song!!! So which came first, the tinfoil hat song, or the http://zapatopi.net/afdb/ site??? (big ole LOL)

I've said it before and I'll say it again ---> PJP deserves a life sentence in jail and to burn in h*ll for his state of denial, and moreso for being an accomplice to Burnie's crimes. Gaaah!

HaHaHa…. so money still speaks in the Mexico branch of the Catholic church. (recovering former Catholic here and don't know if it still speaks as loudly here in the USofA)

Will Gui/Ji's mechanic find Ofelia's remains, at midnight in the garden of Gui and Evil?

This telenovela has cured me of EVER watching a Meh-jía production again. Jamas!

I'm going to watch HQLPNS on Telefutura (started yesterday) - the Colombian version - in hopees that the AFDB lining of my telenovela beanie hat can be put away for a while.

Thanks for the Tin Foil Hat site!

Midnight in the Garden of Gui and Evil.

I don't foresee myself watching any Meh-jia ever again either. Let's hope they never let him produce another project...ever!

Thank you, Sara! I finished watching this a month ago but can't resist coming back for the recap to get my snickers for the day!

Cindy

Popping in again to say thanks to everyone for all the positive words throughout my recapping gig!

As for the "rumbo al final" I am also screaming "IT'S NOT FAIR"!!!!

I lost track in the last few weeks about how much of what JP knows is from the confessional, but if all that he knows comes from that he is not an accomplice. In fact, as the same bishop told Padre Tadeo in FELS he can be excommunicated for revealing secrets from the confessional without permission from the "penitent."

Not that most of us didn't want to see him defrocked, but not that way.

Bernarda would not be above lying about what she said outside of the confessional and if the US legal system walks a tightrope over this stuff, the Mexican one does so without a net.

I think, as this ends, a good use of all your beanies might be to tip them upside down and fill them with your favorite alcoholic beverage as you watch.

BTW, my word identification right now is "pipped." I think he might have been my favorite character on this show.

Cindy

I loved Pip, too. I wish we had seen more of him.

There were so many disappointments in this one

*Fab/Nati
*Linda went away too soon...sorry!
*Toni/Oscar I wish that had been more developed
*Jarchoas/Don Joel-unnecessary
*Fausto-so what, he's in jail they are done with his storyline?

Fer better be pregnant by the end of this thing!

Just to name a few.

I don't care what happens to who, just end already, now, ahora, ya!!!!!!

I read that WL might appear in a movie with Tom Cruise.

It's obvious he didn't have hair plugs, maybe he had already shaved his head & he wore a hair piece during the TN.

I've said from the beginning that PJP has a few screws loose obviously from Burnie's genes. He consistently tries to save her soul, ignores all the horrible things he knows about her and now insists that she be allowed to take care of JPito. He hears her say over and over that she hates Vic and always will but yet believes she has turned over a new leaf and repented. Obviously somewhere along the line he did have a lobotomy.

I was surprised that Vic left the baby even after PJP lunkhead begged her but in a way it is a smart move because he at least should be out of range of Lon's Disease.

Too bad that the scene with the bishop didn't take place in church because the roof could have caved in and taken MOAP on the first steps of the road to hell and might have knocked some sense into her son.

In a TN increasingly distinguished by bad acting it was refreshing to watch Jer. His face said it al during the the lift the excommunication scene. Such a contrast to Max and Maria whose effort to bring a tear or show suffering look like they have kidney stones or are constipated. Even the worst novelas always have a handful of old pros who know their craft .

Poor Os has no one thought to call him and tell him his son is on the brink of death?

I can not believe the stupidity of the the police. How many times have they dragged MOAP in and every times she skates. I guess they don't know the old saying where there is smoke there is fire. Either that or she intimidates the hell out of them like she did poor Lulu.

I can't stop laughing every time we see the Otelo rehearsals. I've was never in a play in my life where we wore our costumes at every rehearsal until the final dress rehearsal.

Please make it stop!!!! I don't know if I can take 3 more nights!!! I hope that Colunga NEVER does a Mejia novela because that's the only way I would ever watch one again!

Oh the TORTURE!!!!

Crap...I meant to add this to the recap. The bishop makes Fausto face "man's justice" but not Burnie? Grrrr.

UA: I didn't see the scene with Bernarda in this novela but there's a part of the judicial trial in Mexico called "careo" where the accused and the witness and accusers are put face to face so they can confront each other so that the judge can detect contradictions.

Variopinta: Levy shaved his head after the novela was over. The hair he has here is his natural hair.

Jarocha

Sara thank you for your great and awesome and funny recaps.I hope to read you again on another novela.

You've pretty much cover it all during your recap.

Let's put aside what PJP knows from his mother confessionals he still suspected his mother was involed and responsible for little JP's kidnapping. Then Maria and Victoria's kidnapping too.I would charge him as a accomplice to all of her crimes. She has committed because he could have very well have gone to the police on her many times.

His stupidity in accepting she has repented left me dumbfounded and to leave his precious grandchild in her care with Ximena living under the same roof. i would have had him defrocked for his outright blindly gullible stupidity.

God bless Padre Jer he's been a rock throughout this basura but his looks last night conveyed all of our thoughts as the bishop was listening to Bernie's B.S. are you really believing this laughable B. S. she is saying? OMG PJP what in the world has happened to my protege has he been taken over by a body snatcher?

3 more days repeat after me people 3 more days and the agony ends.

Anon said she hoped Colunga never appeared in a Mejia novela or she wouldn't be able to watch it. Oddly enough Colunga has been in at least three of Mejia's novelas including his first one. I still find it hard to believe that FELS actually won a Premio which goes to prove that the award is nothing but a popularity prize and not any indication of actual quality or talent.

Esmeralda, La Usurpadora and Abrazame Muy Fuerte, all Mejía and some of the most successful novelas Colunga ever was in (along with María la del Barrio and Amor Real).

Jarocha

IT IS NOT FAIR!

Curse you, Meh-jia, CURSE YOU!

Susanita, The Innocent

Face to face? Isn't it better to question them in separate rooms?

This wasn't even close and there was no judge in the room.

Too bad that the scene with the bishop didn't take place in church because the roof could have caved in and taken MOAP on the first steps of the road to hell and might have knocked some sense into her son.

That's a thought.

Word verification "teeth" refers to the fangs we can't see.

DONT FORGET

Friday and Monday TDA will be 2hours

rosa

Thanks, Sara. Your recaps have been fabulous. You have a wonderfully scary sense of humor. Thanks for sharing it with us.

So the archbishop gives Bernarda a pass? I wonder if God will be as generous? Of course there was a certain sincerity in that check she presented him with.

Well, it's just about time... let the roosting and roasting begin.

Carlos

Well, sometimes the judge is not in the room at careos. Check this link, maybe that could shed a better light on the system.

Jarocha

Gracias, Jarocha. I just bookmarked that in my True Crime folder for later viewing (after tonight's episode).

That's an interview about a documental. If you become interested and you have the time, the movie is aso on youtube and it has english subtitles. The name of the documental is Presunto Culpable.

Jarocha

I've never posted but have been lurking since LFMB. I love the comments on here. Here are a few questions. What is up with Xi's mom's voice? She sounds like she just came from the dentist and they forgot to take the cotton out. Did anyone else notice Padre Jer laughing as Burnie was being led away by the police? I'm sure it was a mistake in the filming but he was having a jolly old time. Also, the babies are so well behaved. I have never seen one cry until last night. I guess he knows about Xi and Burnie and that scared him. I'm going out of the country tomorrow so I will miss the Finale. Maybe I'll watch it on the internet but I will deinitely read the recaps when I get back.

Gracias, Sara! You made it out alive :D Thanks for the tinfoil hat song--it was priceless!

And yes, I think you're right about the cheap seats being the peanut gallery.

Petra-The actress who plays Rox had surgery to have a tumor removed from her jaw. I cannot remember if it was malignant.

Sara..Wow, how do you ladies and gents find out and know everything about the actors and actresses
really, where did u find out the information on mama Rox's mouth with surgery and all I too was wondering about her speech..i thought she may of had her jaws tied together.

Um, one of the regulars here mentioned it. Gosh, I can't remember who.
