Triunfo del Amor #161 7/7/11 A triumph of PJP over his mother's will.

I'll admit, I was going to FF through the "last night on…" but I had to stop and watch the slap again.

That's a tiny, tiny bed…reminds me of dorm days. Max and Maria smooch postcoitally and declare their luuuurve.

JuanJo and Nathy smooch. Ewwwww. She whines about being left behind, but he wanted her to be where the baby could get care, just in case.

Fer and Cruz fight to feed each other food…and keep their hands off each other. EPIC FAIL!!!!! I need popcorn. And a cold shower.

Party at Mili's. It's taken her days to give back all the money. Now it's "form an orderly line." Good grief! One of the Jarochas suggests they donate the money to a good cause. The other one suggests the telethon for I don't care enough to go back and figure out what.

Leonela is sublimating with ice cream. I could go for that. She starts to head out the door, but stops herself.

Vic is channel surfing. She gives up and tries to get comfy in her cold lonely bed.

Time passes.

Maria walks into the dressing room at Nueva Casa Vic, which is filled with pale yellow (or maybe cream?) roses from Max, por supuesto. He's buttering her up to beg forgiveness for Victoria. Maria's having none of it. She is sick to death of the pressure and wants everyone to back off. Max changes the subject and suggests a fun family outing with the babies. Maria has an idea.

Fer wants Cruz to dress a little differently for classes, but Cruz is ranchero and proud. He tells her she needs to take care of herself while he's gone--get some exercise, but not too much. He's going to go tell the neighbors to keep an eye on her. Fer starts on her PT, but there's a knock at the door. She assumes it's Cruz... which means it's actually Dr. Voice.

Maria arranges a picnic lunch on a blanket while Max manfully brings over both babies. That's right…real men parent their children. Be a good dad and you too can be as hot as Max. Rock hard abs and a kayak don't hurt either.

Dr. Voice begins his house call, following up on Fer's progress. I really wish they'd given her a cane or something. He tells her to keep taking her meds, doing her exercises, and going to CRIT once a week for strengthening exercises. He reminds her the she never answered his question--does she resent him for what happened with her mom? Damn, Dr. Voice, the world doesn't revolve around you, you know! Fer says she's over it. Her mom has a right to do what she wants. Os walks in and backs her up. It's all in Vic's hands and no one should pressure her.

Vic admires Max's additions to the dressing room. Toni walks in. I love her dress. Vic gets a little whiny about Os having left the house. And left her a free woman. And said he respects her decision.

Since both of her mom's suitors have invaded HER house, Fer is now going to let them have HER living room in which to have a private conversation. Os talks about how Fer has matured. Dr. Voice cuts to the chase, "I hear you've left your house." He says it was never his intention to be a home wrecker, it just happened.

Vic feels a little sorry for herself for being alone in the house. She figured everyone would move their families into the house and it would be full of her grandbabies. Toni reminds her that she didn't neglect her family for nothing--she did it to build her empire, so she could find Maria…who now won't speak to her, but hey, 2 out of 3.

Maria sings the lullaby to the boys. She tells Max that Vic used to sing it to her. Maria is glad the boys are growing up together as brothers. I wonder when they'll be getting another sibling. Max talks about how awesome it is to have sibs. Maria agrees, she likes having Fer as a sister. Max brings up Vic AGAIN. These people have no boundaries.

Vic whines some more about how she neglected her family and now she's alone. Whine, whine, Fer's accident, whine, whine, Osvaldo cheated, whine, whine. Toni says it's time for Vic to just be herself and stop hiding her emotions. It's never too late to find happiness, and Toni is always there for her. She'll support her if she wants to shag Dr. Voice. Ok, I embellished a little.

Os tells his rival he screwed up by getting involved with Linda. He figures he'll focus on his work and spend time with his kids and grandkids. And Dr. Voice's plans? Cause, you know, Os and Vic have been divorced for a while. Thanks for the reminder, Os. Doc says Vic asked for time and he's going to give her time. Os is grateful to Doc for what he's done for Fer, but he hopes Doc understands that they can't be friends. Oh, no Os/Doc bromance? They are just heaping the compliments on each other and being hyper-civilized. Oh, shut up already! They can't even say they're both leaving Fer's without taking five minutes to say goodbye. It's like fighting over who's going to hang up the phone first! They both flash back to their conversation just to prolong the moment that's already gone on far too long.

The hoodlums with the footage of Linda's death: The one guy is looking for Gui. It has something to do with him promising his mom on her deathbed that he'd straighten up and fly right. And once he turns the footage over to the cops, he'll have kept his promise and his mama can rest in peace. And so he's looking for Gui why?

Max tries to have a conversation with Maria about home improvement, but one of the boys is fussy. Maria says she wants to fix up the boys' room first. Max talks to the baby about making lots of food to make Maria get fat. Ah, that's romance. Smoochies.

At the theater, Gui and Leo rehearse. Leo says she won't follow him blindly anymore. She brings up Doc and Gui, in a ridiculous beard, gets upset. He threatens to test her resolve with a bottle of vodka. She points out that if she gets drunk again it's not going to help his career. The hoodlums are sneaking in. Gui threatens her not to screw with him. He thinks he's pulling her strings. Leo whines that they need to quit wasting time and rehearse already.

The boys are all strapped in and the baby paraphernalia is loaded into the minivan. Max and Maria take off.

Leo and Gui rehearse, but Gui is distracted by the hoodlums. He tells someone to turn on the lights, but he can't find them. He finds an envelope with the cell phone in it. He thinks himself a lucky bastard for having the footage. Stupid hoodlums. If anyone knows why they thought they should turn it over to Gui instead of the cops, please explain it to me!

Bernarda denies PJP her permission to…what? The same old arguments about filial piety. Oh, he wants to formally recognize Maria as his daughter, but Burnie says it would be too shameful for her. Bite me, Burnie. Maria walks in and greets PJP as Papa. I swear, I can see the steam rising off of Burnie. She just can't stand it! It's sacrilege! (You keep on using that word…I do not think it means what you think it means!) PJP is ready to start fixing the mistakes of the past.

Leo asks what's going on--are they going to continue rehearsing or what? Gui gets back to work. In costumes and still holding scripts? Seriously?

PJP takes Maria down to…if it were the US, I'd call it the county clerk's office. The documents are ready. It's an "acto de nacimiento extemporánea" (an after-the-fact birth certificate). PJP presents his ID. He wants her name to be listed as Maria Desamparada Iturbide. Hugs and tears. The official presents Maria with her birth certificate. She says she finally likes her name. She's just a girl like any other, with a last name. PJP says she can now confront the world with no shame and without feeling bad about herself. I think she could have done that before, if she'd made up her mind to, but ok.

PJP and Maria talk about the whole Alonso thing. Maria needs to go visit someone and thank them. PJP is on his way back to church.

At Casa Bernarda, they talk fashion. Burnie hates everything she's looking at.

Maria visits Fausto in jail. He says he's paying for someone else's crime. He admits burning Tomasa's body, but he insists he didn't kill her--Burnie did. Maria says she'd heard that, but she has a hard time believing her sweet old grandma would kill someone. Fausto says he's paying his debt to society so he can become a priest.

And there my DVR cuts off, so no kayaking for me.

What did I miss at the end?

Mr. 5ft persists in pronouncing "Gui" as "gooey."

Fausto asked Maria if she really wanted to hear the truth about her grandmother and Maria told him yes, because she has to know the enemy to fight the enemy. She had to protect herself and her dad.

So Fausto told Maria about Burnie killing Tomasa and the avances show him telling Maria that Burnie is the one who kidnapped JPito.

Thanks as always. Haven't tuned in past couple days - amazing how I didn't miss much. ( can we say dragging this out...).

But it was worth tuning in for two things : First, the awesome twosome - and I'm not talking Max/Maria or Dr. V/Os - those little bambinos steal my heart whenever they're on. They are priceless. The one sleeping on the pillow...argh wanted to just reach into the screen. Did Max and Maria say anything during those scenes 'cos honestly I only watcheed the kids...

2nd as always -some good PJP moments. Glad to hear Diego is heading to a new TN because I want to see this guy in something better than this slock. Love the more Burnie rants, he just doesn't cave anymore.

We are almost to the end and I still don't like Vic - still all about her, whine whine...the writers never really did a great job endearing this woman to us. Almost pity either Os or Dr.V -whichever she winds up with.

Thanks 5 ft. I so appreciate the recappers who make this experience fun.

Back to Burnie after a few days of relief. Ugh. Methinks everyone is in danger again. I did love her reaction to Maria calling JP Papa.

Those babies are adorable and so well behaved. I think it's the first time I've heard little JP cry. The actors do very well with them, IMHO.

Yes, pity the poor fool, whether it be Os or Dr. Voice, who ends up with Victoria. Father's genes triumphed in the cases of both Fer and Maria.

Tks 5ft

Damn, I stayed awake through this one.

Call the police??? Who calls the police in a TN.

When this comes out on DVD, I figure it will be 47 min long, since they cut out all the unnecessary parts.

Kat - Thank you for the recrap. Shout-out to Mr. 5ft for the Gui pronunciation. LOL

Both Vic and I were channel surfing last night. Unfortunately, Thirty Rock was a repeat. Hopefully Vic got stuck watching a Meh-jía telenovela.

Vic, ya basta with the whining! ***How does one say 'whining' in Spanish? Would it be an idiom?

Nice pastoral picnic scene with the babies and M&M. M&M seem to interact very well with the babies, and visa versa. That one sure was fussy, but M&M handled it like seasoned pros, despite the fussiness making it hard to hear them speaking.

I was totally confused by the hoodlums at the theater. What was their purpose in being their?
Did they leave the cell phone on purpose? Accidentally dropped?

So the birth certificate now says Maria Desamparada Iturbide. Oh, puh-leeeze.

I really want PJP to burn in you-know-where, or at least go to jail, for not turning in his mother to the police. Seriously. That turkey does not deserve to walk around free.

Variopinta - "Damn, I stayed awake through this one." ROFLOL Me, too!

Word verification: unsuar ... as in I am unsuar about how this circo is going to end.

Thanks 5th Latina for the great recap as always.

I loved Max/Maria and the cute little babies outing.

I guess some of us were wondering what was going on with Ursula Prats (Roxana) I found out that she had a cancerous tumor removed from her throat on 4/5.

Have a great day

Mr. 5ft persists in pronouncing "Gui" as "gooey."

A good friend of mine did this with "guey", which I couldn't find in the dictionary. Anyone know the definition?

Maria ahora no es desamparada, so why didn't JP think to ask Victoria if she had given Maria a middle name back in the day? I could see her being "Maria Guadalupe" because of Vic's love for and reliance on the Virgencita.

JP is to be applauded for publicly acknowledging Maria and yes, his mother's concept of sacrilege is seriously twisted. As Padre Jer pointed out many episodes ago, there was no vow of chastity to violate at the time of Maria's conception.

Besides, in view of all the recent scandals in the church (which are never mentioned in novelas) the idea of a priest having a daughter and taking care of her is very attractive.

Memos to the good folks:

Fer: Send a memo to the wardrobe crew from FELS to get those rooster shirts. They're ranchera and they beat hell out of the plaid. And Diana still deserves to be fired, so report her.

Cruz: You looked so hot on your wedding day. Please shave. Cada dia.

Max: You also need a shave. Both of you need to see a pro to benefit from a straight-edge (just make sure his name isn't Sweeney Todd).

Vic: Put Fer in the next fashion show and really stick it to Bernarda. Also, get some high-fashion maternity clothes going for both your girls because I'm predicting they will need them.

Virgencita: A baby girl for Maria and Max, a boy for Fer and Cruz. On the same day, if possible.

Still loviing Oz. Whatta guy.

Could never see Dr. Know-it-all-again and be very happy.

Oh that Max! Knows his way around babies just like he knows his way around love-making and kayaking! Nice to see MM & Max relate normally to each other without high drama.

Grow up already Victoria! but you wont be able to with Antoinetta and the Dr. as major enablers.

So goes life on a TN.

UA - I've seen "guey" in closed captions when people are talking about a guy who is gay.

We did have a very nice dose of Max's six-pack abs & kayak last night. He looks more buff than when this telenovela began.

Thanks for a great recap 5ft!!

I had some real issues with the birth certificate incident.

1. Isn't there already a birth cert. on file somewhere? Or did Vic have the baby in the park, chew the cord and go on her merry way without ever filing a birth certificate?

2. Burnie denied Vic the chance to be a mom and now PJP is totally taking her out of the picture, too. Couldn't he wait until Maria forgives Vic and then the three of them could go down to ...where ever and get the new certificate. IMHO that would have been a better scene.

Vic is not an endearing character...but she had that baby alone with little help. She deserves some props for that. I've been there, done that.

PS: And insisting on still having the "Desamparada." Hasn't it been established that thanks to his mom she was not "desamparada" but "robada" or "perdida"?

Thanks, 5ft! Terrific, witty recap as usual.

UA and Doris: "güey" is a term of address that means something like "dude": (Qué onda, güey) It's kind of downscale version of "hombre".

Thanks for the recap, 5'. I cheated this week and watched this TN to the end online. I was tired of being captive to every night showings that were scheduled at the vagaries of Univision. I have other things I need to get done. Besides, fast forward is easier online.

It will be fun to read the recaps for the parts (a lot!) that I did not understand, the opinions of folks here, and most of all the witty way you guys recap this schlock.

Cindy

You could have FF through most of this mess last night and not missed much. No show tonight and none again on Tuesday. So help me God this thing is going to last until Christmas at this rate.

So mush mouth and tilt head go to the park and have a little domestic chat. Mumbling thorough the whole thing and even the baby got a little fussy. I will never understand why TN's film exterior scenes, by the bushel load, but don't bother to redub the dialogue in a studio so you can have some idea of what is going down. Same problem when Maria and PJP strolled on the street and some one finally mentioned Alonso.

I was also shocked to discover that Maria's hovel has two bedrooms and why on earth is Max still letting her live there. Not only doesn't he bother mentioning marriage but let's her live in a dump.

I agree that it was a bit insensitive of PJP to take Maria to the registration office to handle the name thing without bringing Vic into it. Like her or not she is the mother and might actually have given the girl a proper middle name. i guess the acorn didn't fall far from the tree with PJP.

WTH was the purpose of the hoods going to the theater and dropping the phone. I couldn't figure out if they were the usual buffoon crooks that TdA favors or if they weren't planning to get a little dinero out of Gui and then got scared off.

So Vic dudes have a nice civilized chat and agree they can never be friends. While I believe that Os will live up to his word about not pressuring Vic I don't think The Voice will. After all he moved in on Vic pretty fast all things considered.

I think they should forget the Desamparada altogether, just say her name is María Jóse, then it would be
María Jose Iturbide (Victoria's Maiden name)
The middle name is part of the 1st name in Spanish.

It looks like they are using the Desamparada as María's middle name.

whine = take your pick
I think Victoria does them all at the same time.

Kat: You are killing me! Another excellent recap with your wonderful commentary.

Am also laughing at the wonderful one liners from the group as a whole. What a way do start the day!

Rosa: Appreciate the infos re Roxana. I hope we are not breaking the Rules of the Blog and hope the moderators don't think we are gossiping about the actors RL. I think the infos directly relate to what we were seeing on screen with this actriz. She truly was mumbling as if she had her jaws wired. It was a significant departure from prior scenes with this actriz.

NovelaMaven: Thank you for the clarification re 'guey'. Glad UA asked the question. Something else to jot down in my vocab book.

Dani: 'Mush mouth and tilt head'. I CANNOT stop laughing! Good one!!

UA: ITA with your memo to the good folk.

I have to say that I rather liked the scene with PJP and Maria (as Fer calls her). Diego was good in that scene...it was believable. I'm ready to take Diego home with me. :))

I am really not clear what the thugs were thinking and what they hope to accomplish. Yet another disconnect.

Sara: ITA. Why in the world to we have to keep that "Desamparada" name?! Get rid of it. Now.

Vario: You always kill me! 47 minutes indeed!!

So, nothing until Lunes?

Susanita

5ft thank you for another funny recap.

Why are they dragging out this novela?

Loved the scene with Maria and Max with the boys.

Finally it took this long for them to mention Alonso?

Victoria who in their right mind would want to live with you? It seems that Max has moved in with Maria and there is another room in her hovel remember Nati had her own room.

Bernie just cracks me up when she is on her rant.

Sorry to hear about Ursula Pratt she does sound like she is or was a smoker though.

Thanks Kat. Very funny. I shared your puzzlement about the guy with the cell phone. I thought for sure that he was planning to go to the police.

I was intrigued and fascinated by the conversation between Dr. Voice and Ozzy. Near the end I was shouting,"¡Beso! ¡Beso!"

Variopinta, thanks for the words for whine... I especially like jirimiquear. And... I don't think we use pule enough.

Carlos

Thanks again, Kat! A fun read and whatever you missed of the last 60 seconds will probably be reshown on Monday.

"she didn't neglect her family for nothing--she did it to build her empire, so she could find Maria…who now won't speak to her, but hey, 2 out of 3" had me LOL.

Thanks for defining "guey". One of my biggest frustrations is not finding basic words and phrases in the dictionary.

It's futbol that's screwing around with the schedule. Don't get me started.

Regarding the phone left for Gui, I don't think even these thugs were so stupid as to leave the original one. I think they bought a cheap untraceable phone and sent the video to it before leaving it for Gui to find.

Now, back to business:

Maria: Get Fausto to tell you everything he told your dad in the confessional booth, then head for the policia. While you're at it ask them if Fer's accident was ever investigated. Then tell your parents.

Max: It's time for a new address for your family and some bodyguards until Bernarda's Karmageddon. Cruz and Fer should stay with you guys until then.

Osvaldo: What are you waiting for, man? Victoria needs you.

Leonela: If you want to survive this story break the next vodka bottle over Gui's head.

Fabian: What are you waiting for, dude? Lucy digs you. Don't let another guy get her.

JP: Have a private I follow your Mommie Dearest. I know you don't like what you know about her, but someone else needs to blow the whistle. No point in you getting excommunicated.

Eva: Don't stop searching the house.

Virgencita: About Nati... por favor, see that her baby takes after her.

In rethinking last might and all those fill in the space (oops that is not a pun) time wasting I was horrified when I though we would see Nati and JJ would follow suit. Had that happened I might have considered putting out my eyes or better yet calling to find out how much a lobotomy would cost.

Thanks Kat for the fun recap. I caught the last few minutes and saw the standing up to Mama by PJP, his question about Al (thank goodness someone asked about the poor guy), the new birth certificate (why keep Desamparada?), and the chat with Fausto in prison. It's about time Maria got curious about some of these crazies around her and decided to do something about it. That's what's bugged me the most about the characters in this tn- no curiosity, no burning desire to get justice or to get to the bottom of mysteries. How many times can you survive attempts on your life, attempts on the lives of people you love, kidnappings, and the kidnapping of your children, before you try to figure out who the heck is behind it and try to throw them behind bars?!

Thanks for the info on Ursula Pratts. It's not gossip, IMO because it affects the actor's presence/appearance in the tn we're watching. I wish her well. I like the actress from the one other tn I saw her in, Gancho (a much better role than this one).

Vivi: Thank you for confirming that Rosa and I were not dealing in gossip type infos. I'd hate to have my welcome mat here pulled.

UA: I will second your motion to the Virgen. I had to look away when Nathi started to kiss BLOCKHEAD. Barf. Absolute Barf.

Susanita

Thanks, Kat for another fine recap.

People I hope to see more of in TNs:
Diego/PJP
Livia B./Fer
Guy who plays Fausto

People I hope to never see again:
Soccer guy/JuanJo
"hot bod"/Linda
record exec/Diana

People I don't need to see for a while: the remaining cast
La Paloma

I think the audience had enough of JJ making love to Nati on their Noche De Bodas that was more than enough and i turn the channel when that scene was on talking about major barf.

It's not that i believe any of us have a problem with Nati settling down and marrying and giving up her career. Nothing wrong with that plenty of women do that i appauld them if that's what they want to do. But it's whom Nati is choosing to do this for "Blockhead" if it was Fabian or some other guy who didn't look like the missing link. Then we wouldn't have a problem with Nati doing this at all.

As for this version of Victoria no one deserves her but if Dr. Voice wants her that badly he can have it whining, selfishness and narcissistic personality and all.

I'm team Os and he deserves way better than her maybe they will introduce him to some hot young thing not like LindaHo' but someone who appreciates Os for himself.

Team Os all the way!

Mr. and Mrs. 5ft--No you didn't miss a thing. Good point and you should know--by the time you get to dress rehersals, you shouldn't need the script.

Maybe that's what's been wrong with this telenovela since the beginning. The dress rehersals came before they actors ever got their scripts.

I'm with you, Blu. Os should end up with someone not so self-absorbed and 'I'm the victim here' as Vic. There aren't too many available ladies left on the set: Diana? the Jarochas? Roxy? Xi? Luci?--ah, Luci--I like that choice.

I hope they are not setting up an Alonso-type end for him--being the hero to save Vic/Maria/Max/Fer/Dr.Voice/Cruz/Osvito/JPito/PJP/Fausto (take your pick--or all) from Burniecide.
NOK

Maria Desamparada Iturbide. It sounds okay, but...augh.

Depending on your point of view Os sacrificing himself to save Maria, or Victoria, or Max, or (d) from the Browlifter 5000 could be karma recycling overkill. In novela terms, he's made up pretty well for his dalliance with Linda (lets see...he's been shot twice, fell off a cliff once, and was scammed a couple of times by Gui). It'd be one big way to get him out of the way, though, if they're dead-set on letting Victoria move on with Dr. Voice--for better or worse he's the one and only expendable main character at this point (there's Juanjo, but y'all know what I mean) and the show wouldn't be daring enough to let him move on and screw his galan action up.

Oh, I get it, this is the dress rehearsal, the REAL novela is forthcoming. They need a lot more rehearsals though.

Pobre Osvaldo, if only Victoria would reflect on WHY he strayed, but she is so self absorbed & selfish, it's not going to dawn on her. I hope the Doc gets her, Osvaldo doesn't deserve more crap from her. Get yourself a younger hottie Osvaldo, I'm available if you leave out the young part.

Since we've got people choosing sides, I put up a little, um, "artwork," though that may be overstating things a bit.
