LA CASA DE AL LADO – viernes 26 agosto
Part 1 of 2
No one gets beat up or run over. No one dies. (For now.)
Renato is outed to the Mora boys.
Pilar is pursued by the ghost of Ricardo Merino.
Rebeca’s understated grief breaks our hearts.
Gonzalo follows Carola to her meeting with Mabel. Mabel denies knowing anything about the judicial order to remove Igor from the Conde house. Gonzolo freaks out when Carola spots him, and calls out to him, (Mabel doesn’t even recognize him) and he runs away.
Later, Carola catches up with Gonzalo at his apartment and angrily accuses him of following her. He grabs her violently, gives an incoherent explanation that he was afraid, and asks her not to go out alone to meet strangers. He promised her mother he would protect her. Carola – inexplicably – believes him and says he’s the only one she trusts.
Carola leaves the building and walks down the street casting anxious glances over her shoulder. Is someone watching her? She turns around and bumps into -- you guessed it! The guy from the bar, Omar. She agrees to go to coffee with him. He admits he was following her for a few blocks but... his phone rings and he steps away to answer. Carola takes the opportunity to escape. Omar’s jaw tenses slightly when he sees she is gone.
A teacher for the blind, Marisol, shows up in Pilar’s office (the “Foundation” sent her). Ignoring the huge red flags raised by the woman’s odd remarks about psychologists, (So you’re a psychologist? This looks like a typical psychologist’s office. We’ve all gone to one or had a relative treated by one – there’s always a psychologist in our lives...) Pilar takes her to the Conde house to meet Emilio. Could it be Marisol who has started hounding Pilar about her past?
It sure looks like it. Pilar gets an anonymous letter at home: Vas a pagar por lo que le hiciste a Ricardo Merino. (You’re going to pay for what you did to Ricardo Merino). Then the phone rings: I know all about you, the young female voice says. I know you’re not the person you say you are.
Meanwhile Hilda is furious that Emilio is willing to accept Marisol’s help when he has steadfastly rejected her own; she runs to Eva for support. Eva, however, agrees that a professional teacher is just what Emilio needs. (True. But this woman is up to no good. And besides, Emilio is such a man-whore, he needs to work with someone who can not possibly be a sex object.)
Hilda retreats to the kitchen and hurls her coffee cup against the wall – scaring Yolanda – and declares: She’s not going back to Zacatecas; she won’t leave Emilio free to weasel out of his commitment to her.
Eva realizes she is Javier’s alibi for the time of Matías’s murder and she goes to the police station to make a statement that she hopes will free him. Javier isn’t happy with what she intends to do: If everyone finds out what they were doing that night, their plans will be ruined. (Tell us, already!) But Eva is more concerned with what crazy Ignacia might do if Eva doesn’t act first.
And she should be worried. Ignacia has taken her gun out of storage and is now packing it in one of her giant handbags.
Renato’s secret is compromised:
Renato continues to be consumed with guilt over Matías’s death. He wants to attend the vigil, even if it’s just for a moment or two. He arranges to meet Rebeca in the chapel; it will just be the two of them.
What Rebeca and Renato don’t foresee is Emilio’s decision to pay his respects to Matías. Now that Marisol is working for him, he asks her to drive him to the church where the vigil is being held.
Adolfo is right behind, stalking Emilio and now gloating over his luck that his prey has at last left the house. Rebeca and Renato are startled by Emilio’s appearance. Rebeca thinks fast and convinces Emilio that he and she are alone in the church even though Emilio smells Renato’s cologne and hears a noise when Renato stumbles against a pew. (A decoration fell, Rebeca explains) But Adolfo sees quite clearly that Renato Conde is alive. He rushes off to tell big brother the upsetting news.
While Marisol waits outside the church for Emilio, she makes a call of her own (clearly the anonymous one to Pilar). She is briefly startled when Nibaldo and Renato bump into her, not even noticing her presence in their single-minded haste to escape.
When Emilio comes out a moment later, she remarks that people must have really cared about his friend. The gentlemen who just left the church were really upset. What gentlemen?? asks Emilio, perhaps the only Conde kid with a triple-digit IQ, suspiciously. What did they look like? How many were there?
Avances: Gonzalo and Carola get naked.
Boy, two, count 'em, two great recaps!
Jean, you did a great job on Friday's episode! I had planned to post something late this weekend, but it's not necessary.
I'm just about one foot out the door to spend the weekend at Shakespeare Santa Cruz. Some friends and I see two matinees and one evening performance in a single weekend, staying overnight in Santa Cruz. Today's matinee is not Shakespeare, rather a dramatic production of the Three Musketeers. Tonight is Henry IV, Part 1, and tomorrow's matinee is The Comedy of Errors. The actors are always great, and the festival takes place on the campus of the University of California, Santa Cruz.
NovelaMaven, Thanks for the wonderful recap. I've just spent the weekend dealing with Hurricane Irene --horrible, but luckily except for the 24 hour loss of power, we were fine. The power finally came on at 11;00 PM, and after catching up on all the news, I came straight to see what was going on here. A nice distraction.
The one thing I would say is that Gonzalo freaked out before Carola spotted him. His reaction to seeing Mabel was quite drastic. He seemed as upset as Adolfo; very emotionally upset.
I am still waiting for the real explanation of the Javier/Eva meeting. Speaking of Eva, I found it quite funny that she wore a kind of black funereal dress to Matias and Rebeca's wedding. But the next day when her former lover is found dead, she doesn't seem at all upset and is running around Miami in a purple print MINI dress, with a skirt that is as short as Pilar's. This is unusual for Eva, who is always dressed elegantly and in an age-appropriate way. I don't know if it means anything, except that the costume person was having a bad day. But I did find it amusing.
NJ Sue, I'm glad to know you're safe and have your power back. Quite an ordeal for our east coast friends!
Excellent points about Eva and Gonzalo. I noticed Eva's funeral dress at the wedding but was completely oblivious to her giddy get-up the next day.
As for Gonzalo, you're right, He started to freak out as soon as he saw Mabel. Nothing like the sight of 'mommy dearest' to get a buttoned-down psychopath to start to fall apart.
-----------------
Novelera, Hope you had a blast!
MI CORAZON - I'll try and do a quickie recap from memory.
Andres and Camilo find out from the dying former associate of Tiberio that he was disfigured in the acid attack but not killed. They decide that they need to dig up the grave anyway.
Adela goes to the same rehab facility as Daniel and they meet in the hall.
Later Daniel decides to run away from the rehab place but Adela catches him and tells him that she won't let him leave.
Lola finds out that Debora was alone with the baby. She goes over and tells Debora to stay away from the baby and she will stay away from Andres.
Tiberio has sent people to kill Andres in Panama.
Rodrigo leaves the hospital and goes home. Sofia is taking care of him but he makes it clear to her that he will always love Soledad.
Andres and Camilo decide to dig up Tiberio's supposed grave in broad daylight. They find a dog's skeleton and some rocks in the coffin confirming that Tiberio isn't buried in that grave and presumably is alive.
However the bad guys have Andres in their sniper sights and Lola gets a psychic message that Andres is in danger.
That's what I remember.
Thanks for the recap, NovelaMaven. It sure is frustrating that Carola, while initially wondering why Gonzalo was so upset about Mabel, ends up trusting him (and more, as we may see tonight).
I may not see it, though, as my power has been off since 6:30 A.M. Sunday, with no hope of any restoration soon. As least I have power at work (where I am now). Our next door neighbors had a big tree fall down, just missing their house. That's about when the power went out.
Could Javier end up being some kind of hero? He's been so horrible to Pilar and Diego, so mean to everyone else, and he's dishonest. But maybe he's a good match for Gonzalo, in the power department. First up, though, he has to get out of jail.
BTW, what IS Mabel doing back in town? Why would she come back to make Eva pay NOW?
And what really happened with Ricardo Merino? Marisol seems nice, but I also don't trust her one bit.
They really keep us guessing.
I may have said this before, but I just LOVE Lola's wildly inappropriate outfits. She used to wear lots of pants, but now that she's "rich", it's tight minidresses that are so short she could almost be arrested! She could be shopping, taking the baby for a walk, but forgot about practical clothes!
I first saw the actress, Carmen Villalobos, in Sin Senos No Hay Paraiso, where she was also dressed very sexily. And her boyfriend in that show was Fabian Rios, who was Montecristo in Fantasma de Elena, Gaspar in Herederos, and the preview seem to indicate he's going be in Corzaon! The two definitely have chemistry.
I first saw this actress in La Tormenta, in which she played a blind girl (who recovers her sight, of course) and her love interest was a character played by Manuel Balbí with my all time favorite novela name: Jesús Niño. Can you imagine being an adult named: Baby Jesus?
Corazon:
It's funny because tv y novelas made a comment about Lola's clothing - they said she needed to be covered up. I too thought maybe I was too old, but think some of the things she's wearing would have been misdeamoners, and expected her to be in violation of her probation - is she still on proboation? Have not seen her report in a long time.
Andres and Camilo escape from the cemetery and make it back to LA unscathed. Tiberio, who has started wearing an eyepatch insteand of sunglasses, is PO'd that his men were unsucessful in killing them.
Andres leaves his suitcase at his house while going to see Chabelita. Debora figures out the combination of the lock and finds the drawing Andres did of the young Tiberio. She takes it.
Debora takes the drawing to Tiberio who is really furious. Apparently no one has ever gotten an image of him. He wants to kill Andres even more but Debora convinces him not to do so. He orders Felix to have Andres beaten up and warned that if he continues sticking his nose in Tiberio's business, Chabelita will end up dead.
Adela makes new friends at the rehab center and meets old ones (Lopez). Daniel is jealous. In an AA style meeting, she admits that while others were involved, she took the first steps of her own destruction.
Andres find out that the drawing is missing. He doesn't think to suspect Debora. The former associate of Tiberio who gave him the description has died but Andres believes that he can reproduce his drawing.
There is awkwardness when Sofia shows up at Rodrigo's and Camilo is there.
Lola has a line on a building for her gym. Tiberio is listening to her conversation with the realtor and sends someone that he refers to as his son, to get involved in the transaction.
Lola is keeping her promise to Debora and staying away from Andres. Andres can't figure out why she has changed.
Lola and Pepe go to see the potential gym site. Lola says that it is perfect. Fabian Rios shows up as someone who is also interested in the property. I forgot his character's name. I guess he is Tiberio's 'son'.
Andres gets beaten up and warned to stay away from Tiberio or Chablita will be harmed.
That was about it.
Great recap, Jean. I got my power back, so I was able to watch. Somehow I didn't put 2 and 2 together to realize that was Tiberio's son, but I'm sure you're right. His name was Angel Melendez.
Nellie, Lola's skirts as a probation violation had me laughing out loud.
We finally got to see some "therapy" at the treatment center. Previously, it just seemed they were on their own. Daniel really needs to grow up.
I'm glad Andres can remember the drawing, and that all the police are now working together on this case. Too bad the threat against Chabelita may derail things.
Javier's out of jail. All it took was for Eva to tell the cops Javier was with her, at a hotel, and there were lots of witnesses. Ignacia is sitting right there, and when Javier gets released, she takes full credit. She then tells Javier what he can do for her in return. She wants to be a mother. He chuckles. No, you're a lawyer, help me adopt. Now, he REALLY chuckles, guffaws, and once again, the actor has me admiring him, he is so good at this. He tells Ignacia he wouldn't want to be HER child, that would be SCARY!! She's not amused, but I have to agree with Javier, what is she thinking?!
Meanwhile, despite Hilda's efforts, Marisol is coming back to help Emilio, and when she sees Nibaldo, she says he was one of the two guys in the church when Rebeca had said she was alone. Nibaldo denies, but Emilio knows it's true. He wants to talk to Nibaldo in private.
Outside the room, Eva confronts Marisol. Describe the "other guy". It looks as if Renato's secret is coming out.
Hilda's aggressive attitude toward keeping her man isn't working too well, and Yolanda gives her some pointers.
Gonzalo and Carola actually have sex, and Carola's still in bed when Pilar shows up (distraught about the Ricardo Merino thing). Gonzalo barely convinces Pilar he's alone, but she's not happy about his uncaring attitude.
Carola complains to Ignacia, why do YOU always get all the guys? No one ever cares about me! This is stupid, because 1) why does she fall in love with guys who have already married Ignacia, and 2) what about the new guy Omar. He was about to explain that Arnoldo is not his lover, he's his (probably brother), but Carola is too thick headed to listen. Sigh.
Javier also arrived at Gonzalo's when Pilar was there, just what WAS she doing there? She's silent as usual, and Javier gives Gonzalo a very intense threat. Don't mess with me, you're goin' down!! Gonzalo isn't cowed by this one bit, it seems to enrage him even more. These two are almost like gladiators (although they're both immoral, and far from heroes).
Oye, Hombre, so glad you have your power back! Thanks for the swell recap.
"Carola complains to Ignacia, why do YOU always get all the guys? No one ever cares about me!"
Stupid is right! And once more with the "Estoy completamente sola." What is this, the Conde girls' theme song?
Javier wasn't the only one who ridiculed Ignacia's desire to be a mother. (And by the way, I expected her to pull out her gun and wipe the smirk off his face with a well-placed shot when he humiliated her outside the police station.) Even Eva belittled her, implying it was just as well she lost her baby -- she would have been a terrible mother! (True but devastatingly cruel, especially coming from her own mother. These people know where to aim the barbs.)
So the I-pod (Iñaki and Ismael) speculate that Renato's faked death was aimed at exposing "Gonzalo". And now they know that Rebeca was in on Renato's scheme. Uh oh. Doesn't look good for her, does it?
Pablo tries to reason with Sacto after he finds Flor and him kissing passionately. They fight, and at one point Sacto has his head underwater, almost drowning him. Sacto says they were laughing behind his back. He calls Flor a cualquiera who will go to bed with anyone. He leaves, with CC at his heels.
Rafa continues his mean behavior toward Zahra, smirking at her that she put Flor out because she was jealous. Z, of course, cannot say it was for canoodling with Pablo. They then get into past secrets. It seems as if Rafa forced her to have an abortion or somehow caused her to lose their child. He gets furious that she even brings it up.
Sacto tells CC that he wants to be honest: he doesn't love her and he never will.
Flor, Susana, and Beba are going to live in Clara's old house. I'm somewhat confused about where they all live. Do they have residences and then also the "casitas" with the colored bulbs where they do business? Ana is too freaked by the ghost of Clara and goes to stay with Rocío.
Flor and Pablo are returning from the river, Pablo with a cut on his nose, when they encounter Rafa on horseback. He's suspicious right away. Flor makes up a story about Pablo saving her from some drunken guys making a pass. Rafa then orders Pablo to boost Flor up behind him. Pablo seethes.
Beba and Susana are reluctant to leave Zahra's house because Olga is like their mother. Beba even says so. She gives them dolls. They are all sad at the separation.
Cat tells Luisa about the clause in her father's will that, if she dies before Rafa, all goes to the church. But, she says, she signed a power of attorney when she was madly in love with him that gives him all rights to manage the inheritance.
It's sad how Susana has had her mind poisoned by Ana, and criticizes Flor for what she does.
Pablo shows up at Raimundo's house trying to mend fences with Sacto. Sacto is not buying it. Pablo comes up with something really weak, saying he didn't want Flor to see Sacto as weak when he was so sick. Sacto accuses Pablo of ratting him out to Rafael in order to rise in the oil business. He also tells him that he's using Flor, using her behind Rafa's back and that he's a coward for doing so.
Raimundo tries to get some information about Penélope, Sacto's mother, from Zahra, finally telling her he thinks Sacto might be his son. I don't see what harm the truth would do.
Rafa shows up at Raimundo's and tries to find out if Cat is really helping with the Virgin's birthday celebration. Manuela covers for her. He asks if their son, forgot his name, has finished med school. He says he wants to give him a job at the new hospital. Brigida is thrilled.
Pablo is drinking heavily at the 4P's bar. He bitterly asks himself if he's supposed to get used to smelling another man on her body and shutting up and waiting his turn.
Enrique and La Mina are talking about art. He tells her she has a Mona Lisa smile. Malicia has never heard of this work, and thinks Leonardo Da Vinci might have been one of La Mina's clients.
Rafa shows up at Flor's new house demanding that everyone clear out. He wants Flor! Beba is frightened and Susana looks disgusted. After Malicia takes them out, Flor tells him that this is the last time she's going to stand for this. She became his woman for the well being of her sisters, not for them to be ashamed.
Malicia goes to the bar with the girls and announces to Zahra that she had to bring them because Rafa is with Flor. Pablo grabs a machete to go looking for Rafa.
Sacto shows up at the hacienda looking for Rafa, and is apprehended by the guards keeping tabs on Cat. Uh oh.
Wow! Débora actually took the drawing and told Tiberio that Andrés had drawn it. This is love?
I'm wondering if the new guy really is sent by Tiberio? He was pretty adamant that he was interested in the space Lola wants for her gym. If Tiberio is trying to help Lola, why would he send someone to compete with her for the space?
Adela is obviously going to succeed in her recovery. She accepted her own part in ending up as a prostitute and then becoming addicted. She's miles ahead of Daniel. I surely hope she ends up with Fulgencio López instead of whiny Danny Boy.
I found this episode rather boring or maybe I was just tired. It's hard to see where we are going with the Flor/Rafael/Pablo story. I hope they surprise me.
It was fun to see "slick" aka Gonzalo freaking out when he found out Renato is alive.
God, these people are insufferable. Stupid Hilda can't get it through her thick skull that a person trained to help the blind could get Emilio out of bed. No, she is focused on herself, jealous.
Right about now, I don't care what happens to Carola. Her sick behavior going after the men who have been involved with her sister is just contemptible.
Mabel took off when her husband was accused of fraud and never had any feelings except disgust for her disabled son.
My only hope for this is that somehow Igor Mora is going to have a miraculous recovery and rat out his two rotten kids.
Javier gets punched again! Yay!
I also hate that Amanda's sisters are giving her a hard time about what she does. Yes, its not an ideal situation, but they should understand that the only reason she's doing it is for them.
I think the show is moving at a decent pace, it has certainly hooked me in and I love that it has english subtitles. I've been in a novela funk since Eva Luna ended.
LOL Nellie - luv the 'violation of probation outfits' comment.
Jean - I think Fabian Rios is the 'hijo' that Tiberio's been talking on the phone with, and a couple times in the past.
I hope Fabian Rios' character isn't actually Tiberio's son...because I have him pegged as Lola's next "love interest".
Hombre, you and Nellie need to work out some kind of fashion-police dress code for Lola! My favorite was the dress with the missing pieces that she wore to testify at Andres' murder trial.
J in Oregon
LOL - you guys have gone and done it. All I could look at was Lola's short dress or was it a skirt and then imagined a huge gust of wind coming through. LOL I now find it difficult to watch this without laughing. Still waiting to see what her parole agent would say.
I am happily surprised by Adelita, I happen to think that she's a good actress to take a character that was annoying and turn her around and make me care for her. I remember in Eva Luna, I never cared for the sister at all, and expected the same from Adelita.
Once again "like duh" Lola told Andres about Deborah, and once again Andres sided with Deborah. Can someone please check this man's hairspray or daily vitamins, they've been dumbed down.
Angel tells Lola that with her smarts and experience, and his degrees and connections, they should be partners. She's not too keen on this, but since he won't let her have the space for the gym on her own, she grudgingly goes along with him. Later, Andres sees the two of them together, and here comes the jealousy. BTW, if he's Tiberio's son, they'd be half siblings, so I'd think romance would be out (although they don't know it, I don't think the writers would let them go that far).
Andres has really clammed up about the threat, not telling anything to Camilo, Sofia or Rodrigo. He does tell Lola, who (correctly) thinks Debora could have had him beaten up, just to make him tell her to leave the country with Chabelita. But's she's staying put.
She does tell Andres that Tiberio is her father. He's shocked. If only he could recreate that drawing, she'd recognize that Gonzales guy who's been paying for things. Fat chance.
Daniel told the cops what he knew, but it wasn't enough to prove anything.
Tiberio used Debora for sex again. Although she isn't like Adelita, she's sunk very low, in my opinion. And all to get Andres for herself, which will NEVER happen. Oh well. I love her acting, though.
Sure enough, Emilio finds out that Renato is alive, when Marisol sees a family picture, and points him out as the other guy in the church. He's convinced, Carola, Hilda and Eva aren't totally convinced, but they're wavering. After all, says Carola to Eva, did we ever REALLY know with Daddy?
Carola flat out tells Ignacia she slept with Gonzalo. Ignacia is furious with her, but she's also furious with Gonzalo, who's now cheated on her with Pilar and Carola. How she can want to stay with him is beyond me.
Meanwhile, Javier's plan to impugn the will is a little clearer. Since Gonzalo accepted the stock, and then left Ignacia, he's broken a contract, and shouldn't be an eligible heir (or something like that). All they have to do is prove Gonzo doesn't live at the house. However, meddling Karen has been feeding Gonzo this info, and he might be able to bypass this strategy.
As for Marisol, she IS the one threatening Pilar and sending those letters! Who knows why. Pilar goes back to Ricardo Merino's house, but the neighbor says he's long dead, no relatives. However...after Pilar leaves, the neighbor calls someone, "yes, I told her just what you said I should". Could Marisol be Ricardo Merino's sister?
Gonzo knows Renato is alive, and he knows that Rebeca knows. So he tells her "isn't it great that we two have NO SECRETS, and always tell each other the truth?" Later, he says, "what if Renato faked his death?" Rebeca does a lot of gulping. Even more so when Carola confronts her about Renato. Qué hago? (what should I do, she says to herself).
But Renato's being alive may not be a problem anymore, because at the end of the episode, he opens the door, thinking it's Nibaldo, but it's Adolfo/Ismael, who points a gun right between his eyes!!!
Thank you, Hombre!
Poor Rebeca. Consumed with grief, despised and targeted by Iñaki (for conspiring with Renato), and despised and targeted by Javier (for conspiring with Matías) -- and now, after intercepting one of the anonymous phone threats aimed at Pilar, filled with doubt about her half-sister. Could Pilar really have a dark side?
Yes, Marisol is sending Pilar the anonymous threats and almost certainly making the calls. And she is also writing and printing the letters on Emilio's computer so if anyone investigates, it will all trace back to him. Still, I doubt she is anyone's sister. I think she is another one of the hired help. And given the life expectancy of I-pod helpers (think Danilo and Rosa), she's not likely to survive long enough to be a sustained threat to Hilda's miserable marriage.
The increasing friction between the I's is interesting. I suspect that in the end, these two malevolent brothers will do each other in. But not before they have claimed a lot more victims, some relatively blameless and others whose loss is not likely to arouse our sympathies.
I'm hoping Renato somehow escapes to fight another day. Maybe someone will come along and Ismael will run away.
The reveal about Eva and Javier's plan was a bit of a let-down and doesn't really make sense (at least to me). Will Iñaki be able to foil them by insinuating himself back into Ignacia's bed? Probably.
Great recapette, Hombre.
I agree with you, NovelaMaven, Javier and Eva's plan to contest the will doesn't make sense to me.
A judge could easily say that Gonzalo/Iñaki moved out of the Conde mansion because he discovered Javier was the father of the baby she lost. Or irreconcilable differences, or whatever. Thus, he forfeits the big chunk of Conde stock awarded him for staying with Ignacia.
This still doesn't seem to me to be a reason to contest Renato's will. I think the will naming Gonzalo may have been re-written even after he'd already moved out. Gonzalo could say Renato chose him as the most financially astute person to manage affairs for the family, despite the fact that his marriage hadn't worked out.
Another loose thread in the plot is the guy Ismael hired to burn down the hotel in Orlando. He was supposedly on his way to NYC to do the same. What happened?
I really don't understand the relationship with Tiberio and Ángel. I must have nodded off. I have read that Tiberio called him hijo on the phone. Could this be an older man just calling a younger one "son" as some older men do in English. I have no memory of this. Do we even know for sure Tiberio was speaking to Ángel? Could Ángel be just what he says he is, a guy interested in the same property and, of course, interested in Lola as well?
One other thing. Why do the villains always play chess?
Novelera: We don't know anything about Angel's and Tiberio's relationship. You're right that Tiberio might be calling Angel, 'hijo' as a term of affection not blood relation. I do think that Angel is the person that Tiberio referred to as 'hijo'. It's just too much novela coincidence for Tiberio to suddenly have this mysterious associate and a guy to appear in Lola's life. Especially, as Tiberio was talking to his mysterious associate about the property that Lola wanted to buy.
At any rate, I'm sure the Tiberio/Angel relationship will be cleared up soon. I wonder how Debora will react?
Sacramento demonstrates his courage (in contrast to Pablo) by showing up to confront Rafael Urrieta at his hacienda. The employees want to shoot him. Cat tries to intervene, but Rafa arrives finally. Sacramento admits he was in love with Amanda. He knew she was planning to be one of the P's from the beginning, but he was a fool. He has now recognized that he would have to work a year to give her what Rafa could give her in one night. He tells him he's not hiding anymore, and if he is to die now, then so be it. Rafael tells him he has more courage than most of the men around here, and he lets him go.
Zahra tells Pablo that there's no real love in a bordello, and that she thinks he loves Amanda like a trophy.
Before this, Rafa is getting ready to leave Flor's bedroom. She wants him to hurry up so the girls can come home. He wants to know why she's so distant. He wants her to be madly in love and counting the minutes until he arrives. She tells him he may have made a mistake choosing her. He says he's not used to a woman who feels that going to bed with him is a punishment.
Rafael is revealing himself as quite the dog in the manger. Throughout this episode he demonstrates jealousy of Zahra after he sees her with Pablo and when he sees her dancing with Mariano at the 4P's. He SHOULD be jealous. He's a lousy dancer, while Mariano looks pretty good.
It looks like Beba and Susana are back in Amanda's corner. They find her crying and comfort her.
Evaristo fires Pablo for being away too much. But Peter, the gringo, intervenes and says he's staying.
Sacramento shows up at the 4 P's to drink and glower. Flor does a very sexy dance with a red wig on. Enrique comments that this woman is dead inside. Sacto tells him she chose this.
Sacto makes an ironic toast to Rafa, commenting that he's lucky to have such a faithful woman!
Mariano appears to be about to have a thing for Rocío. Her face is always swathed in scarves, so he can't realize she's his sister. This seems ridiculous to me.
Sacto shows Amanda the money that Zahra gave him to bring her to him in that carat. He tells her he's keeping the money to remind him that her first price was just a few coins. She tells him she used to feel affection for him, but no longer.
When Flor appears to be looking around the room while they dance, he jerks her off the floor and asks: "Where is the woman I had the first night, full of life. Now you're cold and distant. We had a deal and you're breaking it. There's no way back from this deal we made. He threatens her and stalks off.
Peter makes an announcement that Pablo will be supervisor on one of the rigs. Evaristo brings out his replacement - Sacramento!
Novelera:
"Another loose thread in the plot is the guy Ismael hired to burn down the hotel in Orlando. He was supposedly on his way to NYC to do the same. What happened?"
Good point. I suppose that once Renato is assumed dead and Iñaki is holding all the Conde wealth, any plans to bring down the Conde empire would be aborted. (And bringing down the Condes was the whole point of the ghastly hotel fire.) But it would have been nice to include a line or two to let the viewer know the Mora boys had called off the dogs. (Unless, of course, they did and I missed it. God knows I miss plenty of things:))
One more penny dropped for me just now.
Lots of people suspected Gonzalo all along. But, let's say we believed the plot, as shown to us, was straightforward. If Gonzalo were a good guy, then his false announcement at the press conference that there would be an outside investor made no sense. He'd then be faced with the charge of stock manipulation when the story proved false.
But it appears he was planning to sell the stock after prices rose and then siphon off the money and split with Ismael. Now that Renato is alive (at least until tonight), he could show up at any time and the will would be null and void. Thus the gnashing of Iñaki's teeth at Ismael's news.
Novelera: Why do bad guys always play chess?
1) It's the only way they can find a "mate"
2) To escape from their "checkered past."
Ba-da-bing!
Looking forward to when Mariano finally pulls the scarf off his sisters face. This guy is a great actor, I love the way he repeats stuff. Gonna be some great scenes between those two for sure.
I like it that Louisa is getting more lines too, this girl is beautiful.
Angel brought Lola flowers and took her to dinner. Andres was, predictably, jealous and scolded Lola for leaving the baby alone for so long.
Andres fretted about Tiberio's threat to Chabelita but Lola doesn't believe that her Dad would hurt the baby.
Camilo told Rodrigo that he was in love with Sofia but Sofia was in love with Rodrigo.
Rodrigo tells Sofia that he will never be in love with her. Sofia is not happy that Camilo blabbed to Rodrigo about her feelings. She slaps him twice!
In spite of Lopez telling Daniel the other day that he is 'just friends' with Adela, he seems to be romancing her big time. Daniel sees them and makes like he is going to hang himself. When the other rehab inmate whose name I forget tells Adela about this, she doesn't fall for the sympathy ploy and replies that she doesn't care what Daniel does.
Lola tells Camilo that Angel is too good to be true. She is suspicious. Camilo checks Angel out and has the same feeling but can't find anything concrete.
Lola finally twigs that the guy who paid her hospital bill and has been hanging around her might be her daddy, Tiberio. She tries to describe him to Andres so he can do a drawing.
Vicky tells Andres that Debora is out with a 'friend' when she really is with Tiberio. Andres replies that he thought Debora didn't have any friends.
Tiberio tells Debora and Ramon that the public face of his business has arrived in town. Tiberio says that he found Angel on the street and educated him. So I guess that clears up the 'hijo' issue.
Soledad manages to get a stiff wire out of her mattress.
I think that was about it.
Thanks Jean, very nice summary. I want to give a little thanks to Etelvina, because she was actually the first one to voice the idea that Gonzalez and Tiberio could be the same.
I wonder if Soledad can use that bedspring to pick the lock. In real life, no. But in a novela?
Sofia, while a therapist, is quite unglued these days. I guess they're showing by her violent reaction to Camilo that she really does care for him (but won't admit it yet).
Debora again tried to get Tiberio to kill Lola, and he admires her insistence, but won't do it. She still doesn't know he's Lola's Dad.
Lola thinks that although Tiberio is a monster, he hasn't killed Soledad, because he probably feels some kind of connection to her.
So the relationship between Tiberio and Angel is like godfather and godson, although maybe not officially.
If all the characters on this show ever got together in the same room, the show would be over!
Yesterday, Lola had a low cut, high waisted short dress. Today, her "dress" was like a one piece white strapless bathing suit. Her outfits keep shrinking.
Ismael/Adolfo chloroformed Renato and brought him to the lair where they have Igor Mora. Gonzalo/Inaki wasn't happy about this one bit. They each threaten each other with a gun, but in the end, big brother wins out, because he's the "intelligent" one.
After sleeping with Pilar, Gonzalo realized that he had to move back to the mansion to protect his inheritance, so after silently apologizing to Pilar, he does. Of course no one wants him in the house, not Ignacia, not Eva. Well, Carola does, and Gonzalo says the two of them can continue their secret affair. Carola is so happy about this, she just can't hold back her smirk when Ignacia reams her out.
Ignacia has a new idea for her plan to be a mother. She says to Hilda, why don't you give up that kid for adoption? Ignacia apparently wants the kid for herself! (but doesn't tell Hilda yet). Hilda's not too thrilled about this plan.
EVERYBODY now knows that Renato is alive (Yolanda admits it), so they go to see him, but he's gone! Rebeca already found this out. He left behind his glasses, so she thinks (correctly) he was kidnapped, and maybe they'll call the police.
Marisol kisses Emilio (he stops her after a bit, but this is not very professional of her), and she also gloats after dropping off another threatening letter which she "found" to Pilar. Pilar is destroyed (again), she also found out from Ignacia that Gonzalo slept with Carola, so she goes back to Javier, in a daze, she'll be his Stepford wife.
Renato is tied up, can't see that Igor Mora is right behind him. He asks Adolfo, how much money do you want? It's not about money, replies A, it's gone too far for that. Tonight, Renato may find out just what dire devious dilemna that dog Adolfo is dishing out!
Poor Amanda is going to get her heartbroken today. I wonder if this will put a wall around her heart when it comes to men.
I hope Sacremento stops being so self-righteous.
Hombre, you're in rare form! Loved the chess explanation! And your alliteration was top notch too.
"dire devious dilemma that dog Adolfo is dishing out". Perfect!
Sacramento and Pablo trade insults at the job site. In his new supervisorial role Pablo's first act is to tell Sacto to push a broom.
Cat is showing her claws. She's obviously jealous of Sacto's feelings for Amanda and snarks at her in church.
The other petroleros now dislike Pablo for the favoritism Rafael has shown him. Titi finally tells him that they believe he got "next to" Flor Salvaje so she'd put in a good word for him with Rafael Urrieta. Evaristo urges Sacto to just do a good job. While Pablo may have the backing of Rafa, everyone else is on Sacto's side.
Pablo and Sacto have a big knock-down drag-out fight after Sacto yanks the necklace containing a lock of Amanda's hair from around his neck. I'm getting a little tired of Sacto insulting Pablo at work. Pablo is right when he says he'll fight him away from the job site.
Rafa gives Mariano a big check so that Barba Roja will be released. This is the guy who took the blame for killing Alirio to take the heat off Rafa. BR appears very grateful as Rafa tells him he always protects those who are loyal to him. Cat, however, thinks she can get BR to be her ally because he will resent being forced to confess in the first place.
Piruetas finally beds Malicia, but she appears to just be doing it for spite. She boots him out very quickly. Poor guy.
Enrique paints a realistic portrait of La Mina that she likes very much. Malicia is peeved that La Mina got the realistic one while she got the ugly one.
Amanda has decided she can't tolerate this life. She asks Rocío to go to the oil fields and ask Pablo to meet her at the usual place. Rocío is nervous, but she's happy also that Amanda seems to have forgiven her for being the cause of her brother's death.
Olga sees Amanda packing her stuff and rats her out to Zahra. Zahra tells her there's no way back from the life she chose. She reminds her of what Rafa did to Catalina. Finally, seeing how resolute she is, Zahra tells her "Don't throw away the key to this house; it may be the only door open to you someday."
Rafa is looking for Flor with a gift he bought her in Timotes. When he finds she's not there, he gives it to Zahra instead.
Pablo arrives at the river and finds Amanda, together with her three sisters and their packed bags. She tells him, with a big smile, that she's ready to go away with him. Somehow, I don't think this is going to work out.
I now think Renato Conde is going to make it to the end of this novela. I'm just hoping he and Igor can come up with a plan.
I'm done with Carola. There was a while there, when she was doing a great Nancy Drew impression, that I was rooting for her. But going after her sister's SECOND husband is just beyond the pale.
How insufferable is Javier? He forbids his children to approach Pilar when she comes home, looking shell-shocked. He wants her all to himself and hustles her up to their bedroom, telling Karen to put the kids to bed cuanto antes.
Well, I was dead wrong about Marisol. I thought she was brought in by Pilar as a person who helps the blind and was going to be good. Hilda's instincts were right on.
I loved your comments, Hombre and Novelera.
As for Marisol, I knew she was bad news from the moment she walked into Pilar's office and did that insolent visual sweep of her surroundings. Who is she working for? Did she really not recognize Renato at the church or was that just a bit of theater on her part while she waited for the moment to drop the bomb?
Emilio is odious, Carola is odious, Ignacia is odious, Eva is odious -- and Renato? What are we going to find out about the only Conde who seems to have a scintilla of decency?
I don't usually like to comment on an actor's personal appearance but I have to admit I've become fascinated with Eva's giant head, in particular her huge face which seems at least twice as large as anyone else's in the frame with her. It accentuates her Lady Macbeth-like aura. As Karen might say: ooooh. spoooky.
The actress who plays Eva was Miss Mexico of 1977. I still find her beautiful, although I dont understand her recent costumes. Is it her head that's huge, or all that teased hair??
Night after night,m the characters on this show become worse and worse. I think Gonzalo is going to have to get rid of Adolfo soon. He's a loose canon...
Since Bobby's in police custody, Tiberio and Ramon are worried he'll cause problems. Ramon is acting as Bobby's defense lawyer (Andres finds this suspicious) and tells him to shut his trap or else. Bobby says they even have a picture of Tiberio now. This is true, since Andres redrew his sketch of Tiberio years ago, and made a new one of Carlos Gonzales from Lola's description, and everyone agreed it was a match.
So, although Bobby will keep quiet, they have to eliminate the witness against him - Adelita. Felix goes to the clinic to make the hit, but she spots him, and he runs off. Mora, another of the good cops, arrives just too late. Adela doesn't want Daniel to comfort her about all this.
Debora finally wears down Andres with her sexy moves, and they do the deed. Bad Andres!
New guy Angel loses a chess game to his padrino Tiberio, then becomes an "investor" with Debora. Since Lola already accepted him as a partner, something had to give, and sure enough, Andres, when introduced to him by Debora, is not a happy camper (course, he's mainly concerned about the jealousy thing, probably not putting together that Angel is a bad guy. Or if he tells Lola that, SHE won't believe it, thinking it's just his jealousy. Oh well.
Rodrigo's doctors are hopeful, and they may schedule a cornea transplant to restore his sight. Andres, when hearing that Camilo loves Sofia, who loves Rodrigo, who loves Soledad, tells Camilo not to give up, to fight for his love.
And Soledad DID pick the lock with that bedspring, she did it for Lola. Unfortunately, she's now struggling with a much bigger and tougher caretaker lady, but with Soledad's love shining so strong, she'll be unstoppable! (maybe)
Finally, remember when we thought Lola would be a good investigator? We were right, as she goes to the restaurant owned by "Carlos Gonzales" and asks to see the owner. You go, girl!
This show is becoming like a trainwreck. But you can't turn away, right? When left alone, Renato sees that Igor Mora (maybe the only good character left) has a little knife. They manage to cut Renato's ropes, Renato is deeply grateful, and begs Igor's forgiveness for all he's done. Igor's face remains impassive about this. Renato escapes, but he's in some trailer graveyard, and Adolfo catches up to him after a tense chase. Drat!
Meanwhile, Rebeca is urging Gonzalo to call the cops, and everyone finds it VERY suspicious that Gonzo is hedging, hemming and hawing. Rebeca calls them.
Carola really thinks she's in LOVE, and the guy (Gonzalo) loves her back. She tells all this to Omar, who thought he had a chance. Sorry bud. And he's not gay. Arnoldo is...we still don't know.
Gonzalo has moved back, and Carola and Ignacia have their usual spat about him, with lots unsaid. Gonzo also leaves a gun in his drawer where Carola can find it, and when Carola asks if he would KILL for her, he says yes!
When Javier finds out (from Pilar) that Gonzo is back at the house, he's devastated. There goes the impugn the will plan!
And that horrible Marisol! Yes, she IS Ricardo Merino's sister, as confirmed by the neighbor, so it APPEARS she's not working with Adolfo and Gonzalo, but who knows? What we DO know is that inside Emilio's room, with him blind, she takes out those trusty telenovela poison eyedrops, and injects the stuff in a box of chocolates, which she then delivers to Pilar. Since nothing ever works out exactly the way it should, here's my prediction as to who eats the candy: Karen, whose mischievous meddling may make her matada! (killed)
Andres, you have no right to be jealous of Lola "dating" when you're still boinking that she-devil, Deborah. Yuck!
Enjoyed your 'capette, Hombre.
I was watching Soledad as she got the lock open and saying to her: "Conceal the fact that the lock is opened and wait until dark, Solita!" The time to break out of there would be under cover of darkness. But then these characters never listen to us, do they?
It's interesting watching Ángel and his two faces. He's Mr. Sincerity with Lola and One More Evil Dude with Tiberio. So far, it doesn't seem as if he's in love with Lola. He was just chuckling at the idea that Lola might be the next conquest of Tiberio.
Hombre, you said it! Train wreck indeed!
I was so frustrated when Ismail caught Renato. They could have gotten he and Igor out of that miserable place and STILL have Iñaki in place as Gonzo Good Guy. Igor never manages to say more than "malo" so I don't think he'd tell on the eldest prize kid. And Renato never saw him.
The best part of all was Javier's realization that Gonzalo had outsmarted him by moving back.
NovelaMaven said it. These Conde siblings are ALL odious. Way to go, Carola. Here's a guy who IS interested in you, and tells you he's not gay. So what do you do? Brutally tell him about your mad passion for another guy, leaving out the part that he's married to your sister.
I was thinking maybe Iñaki WANTED someone to pick up that gun. He wiped it clean of prints and then dummy Carola picks it up.
Emilio is just not a believable character at all. One kiss and he's suddenly crazy about Marisol. And now he's no longer saying the Kind Blind Guy BS about not wanting Hilda chained to him and ruining her life. No, he feels smothered and wants out.
Hilda almost looks like she might be considering Ignacia's proposal. She looked at her unfeeling lump of a spouse in bed and mentally remembered the offer. Don't think she'll do it. But, if she does, she should ask more than a pampered life for the baby. She should ask for $500K at least!
Predictably, Pablo is not ready to run off with Amanda and the three sisters. Ana remarks that he looks terrified at the idea of those extra mouths to feed. Susana says that Sacramento would have taken them away, definitely shaming Pablo. Amanda is devastated. But, to my surprise, he talks her around. They need more money to make a start. He needs to get some of those good petrolero bucks in his back pocket.
Rafael looks for Flor with a present from Timotes in hand. When he can't find her, he gives it to Zahra. It's a sexy red nighty and panties. They have steaming hot sex. And then he asks for the outfit back to give to Flor! Unbelievable! ¡Cochino! She throws him out in a rage and tells him not to come back.
When Rafa comes to Flor's casita, he notices the bags that aren't yet unpacked. "Where were you going?" She tells him she wanted to be far, far from him.
When Pablo comes back to the petrolero dormitory, Sacramento sulkily says: "You were with her, right?" Sacto is getting on my nerves with his pouting. Pablo tries to reason with him, telling him they couldn't help it that they fell in love. Sacto counters: "Then why didn't you take her away from all the damage that is being done to her?" Pablo has no answer for this.
Rafa asks Flor why she wanted to leave. She says she wants to be left in peace; why does he want her anyway? He looks like he's in pain and tells her she's the only woman who's been his alone and he doesn't want to lose her.
She treads on dangerous ground and asks what would happen if she were with another man. He tells her she'd die and each of her sisters as well. Yikes!
Mariano is still trying to get some quality time with Rocío. She pleads with La Mina and gets her to seduce him instead. We again get to see that Mariano has great rhythm dancing.
Piruetas joins forces with Mariano against Enrique. For Piruetas it's jealousy about Malicia's feelings for the reporter. For Mariano it's revenge about the newspaper article linking him to Clara's death. Piruetas tells Mariano that the reporter's weak point is Malicia.
Zahra tells Amanda that maybe Pablo is just into her for the fun of it. Right after this, we see Pablo in the dormitory licking an air mail envelope. He asks some woman to send it to Lucia Aguilar. (Wife?) Something is fishy about this.
Ana attacks Rocío, pulling her hair, for having caused her brother's death. She says she can't live anywhere near her and goes off to live with papí. She arrives in Timotes, but we don't see if he's going to accept her. I doubt it.
Lourdes tells Mariano she was looking through the photo album and discovered he has a sister. He tells her Rocío is in a convent. Lourdes is over the moon, thinking a nun in the family would be great for the campaign. He doesn't know which convent, but Lourdes assures him she'll find her.
Rafael plots with Barba Roja. He's planning to give Cat more freedom. He suspects she's got her eye on a man, and he wants BR to follow her at all times.
Mariano's plot does involve Malicia. Some of his cops have gone to Nueva Esperanza in plain clothes. They chloroform her and drag her off. We see her with a bag over her head and Mariano taunting her.
Luisa has gone to the dorm room and asked Sacto to come see Cat. Of course, he goes. When he tells her he's trying to forget Amanda, she plants a big kiss on him.
Novelera:
"The best part of all was Javier's realization that Gonzalo had outsmarted him by moving back."
Yes! I loved seeing Javier's smirk fade when Ignacia announced that Gonzalo was back in the Conde house. Definitely one of the highlights in this story that invites us, as viewers, to be as nasty as the characters, taking pleasure in each small humiliation and defeat.
Well Hombre, I guess we'll know soon enough if Marisol is really Ricardo Merino's sister. That would mean three separate locomotives of venganza speeding down the track. Hmmm...
Hombre, I like your theory that Karen ends up the unintended victim of the poisoned chocolate. Not only is Pilar likely to be off her feed, (while Karen's appetite is likely to be whetted by the excitement around her) but willowy Pilar has probably not eaten any chocolate since 1985.
Anyway, the whole poison candy business is odd. Marisol leaves the syringe, presumably covered with her fingerprints, in the Conde trash. Hilda sees her put something there. Even dopey Emilio senses that Marisol is concealing something from him. And Marisol doesn't bother to wear gloves when she handles each piece of candy in the box, so not only her germs (ewww) but her prints must be all over them. And finally, it's kind of idiotic to deliver your poison chocolates in person unless you're inviting discovery.
I still have hopes that Renato will live to fight another round. Of course if he catches onto Gonzalo's secret, he's a goner.
Im glad to see that Im not the only one who is getting frustrated --and bored-- with the events. Not that we know who the good guys and bad guys are, there is no mystery and no realo tension --except for Renato's escape. Part of the problem is that we don't care for any of the characters, so it's hard to stay involved in what might --or might not-- befall them.
I absolutely cannot stand to watch the horrible acting of the Pilar actress. She looks ALWAYS like she has an upset stomach and is about to throw up. That is her response to confusion, unhappiness, being dumped, people getting killed, her sister's fiance being killed on their wedding day. I think the one look she has for everything is called Dyspeptic!!!
When I lost power, I missed how Adolfo found out Renato was alive and how he kidnapped him. Could someone "enlighten" me? Thanks...
NJ Sue:
Renato wanted to attend a small private service for Matias in a church. They arranged for the church to be empty. Only Rebeca would be there, and Nibaldo wound bring Renato. But Emilio found out about it, and asked his new therapist, Marisol to take him. She waited outside. He walked in, blind. He heard more noises besides Rebeca, and smelled his father's cologne. Meanwhile, Adolfo had followed Emilio, just to see where he was going. He was lurking outside the door, and saw Renato inside. You probably know the rest.
And as to how Adolfo kidnapped Renato, he followed Nibaldo one day, saw where Renato was staying, and later, after Nibaldo had gone home, he just knocked on the door or the apartment. Renato opened the door thinking it was Nibaldo. But it was Adolfo, with a gun, and he then chloroformed Renato and whisked him out of there (although they didn't show that part).
Glas you got your power back. Mine was out all day Sunday and Monday, but came back on Monday at 5 P.M., so I didn't miss any of La Casa.
BTW, the info you wanted is also in the recaps right on this page. NovelaMaven's first post has a lot of it.
