La Pola - August 29, 2011 - The Treachery Goes On, Discussion Page

Before dying, Domingo and Cata forgive each other, and he gives her title to the house and the slaves. Against the wishes of Gertrudis, she looks for a buyer for the property and gives Bernarda and Acacia their freedom. She will use the money from the sale to search for Joaquín. María Teresa leaves Francisco who tries to cover her departure up with a lie. Acacia returns to the mansion and turns him in. Finally, Gaspar forces him out. Alejo remains devastated by the death of his brother and seems to have lost the will and the want to fight. José María Torres continues his treachery as does Baraya who volunteers to persuade people, like Col. Rodriguez, to betray Narino. Sámano is relieved of his command because of ineptness, failure to account for money, and cowardice. Oh, yes, a new rich, handsome man has appeared in Guaduas who is the buyer for the property.

Thank you so much, Pasofino, for that superb and succinct summary.

It was hard to see the patriot army taking all those hits last night. I'm almost afraid to see what happens to them tonight, especially with Rodriguez and his wounded ego gunning for Nariño from within.

At Alejo's farewell visit to María Ignacia, she asks him if he has gotten married yet and makes a point of letting him know that she hasn't yet taken her vows.

During Pola's most recent encounter with the rich and handsome 'comerciante', he asks her if she is married.

Apparently the romantic challenges and entanglements aren't over for our couple. Too bad Pola didn't let Alejo find a sympathetic priest that night. They'd be married by now and wouldn't have to fight admirers off with a stick.

Sámano relieved of his command for Ineptitude, Theft and Cowardice -- Hah! I wouldn't be surprised if that were the motto on his (Royal) family shield. But we all know -- he'll be baaaack!

NovelaMaven: It does look like we have some very interesting twists and turns ahead. I didn't get the name of the "comerciante". He and Pola seemed to be testing each other. Eusebia had Alejo to the point where he couldn't say no to another visit to María Ignacia. I don't think she has given him up yet.

I've been thinking we've almost come full circle back to the first capitulo. Maria Ignacia was in that capitulo and she was not a nun. I need to rewatch the first one to refresh my memory.

We rewound twice last night to watch Francisco getting putting out on the street and having the door slammed at his back! Finally!!!! LOL

"We rewound twice last night to watch Francisco getting putting out on the street and having the door slammed at his back! Finally!!!! LOL"

Yes, anon, that was a delicious moment!

Thanks Paspfino. Marta posted her expanded recap on yesterday's blog and of course it is very good and very detailed.

I must admit to tearing up at Domingo's deathbed farewell to Cata. I almost forgave him myself.

How sweet was Francisco's comeuppance? My only complaint is that I would have liked to see him squirm a bit more but that is simply not Gaspar's style.

I like the new guy and it looks as though Pola will as well.

I thought that Nariño was too harsh with Gaspar... he's going to need all the friends he can get.

So Pola is going to learn how to manufacture aguardiente? This should be fun.

In LHdM, I was certain that Emiliano would end up wearing Rosario's daddy's suit... just not this soon. Isn't her mom beautiful in a tired, world-weary way?

Carlos

Carlos: I posted this blog page pretty early this morning. I guess Marta missed it.

I thought Nariño was a little hasty myself with Gaspar.

Yup - I thought that suit would end up on Francisco/Emiliano, too. I'm waiting impatiently to see it.

Oops - I see I didn't connect the link. Well, it's there now

aaah yes! the new guy... I had to rewind to get his characters name (Ambrosio Almeida) then google the actor (Diego Cadavid). very attractive.

LHdM

I too noticed mom's world-weary beauty.

I guess it is a concensus on the Raquel character in LHDM, played by Alejandra Borrero (Cafe, El ultimo matrimonio feliz). My husband said exactly the same thing. Given the age she is supposed to portray here, she looks young even if tired/weak.
I loved Mark Tacher's facial expresions when he was listening to her 'chat' with the landlord.

Ambrosio was the character that was going to be played by Jorge Enrique Abello (BLF, ACA). I have a feeling he might have looked a bit too mature for the character.

another character who got her due or at least began to was Gertrudis. Pola and Cata ignored her, and at her insistence that they had to provide a place for her in their plans, Cata told her off... priceless!!

LA HIJA DEL MARIACHI

I love the exquisite tact Rosario uses to persuade Emiliano to borrow the precious traje -- he'll be doing HER a favor by giving the suit a chance to sing one more time.

In fact, now that I think about it, I love the way these two interact in an elaborately courteous dance, each trying to be kinder and more self-effacing than the other. Often, when people behave this way, they are being manipulative and insincere. The difference here is that we feel these two people are being completely genuine (at least on an emotional level; once Rosario finds out all the lies Emiliano was forced to tell... well I don't even want to think about it.)

NovelaMaven: You have a way with words. I love the way you described the politeness that exists between Emiliano and Rosario. When she finds out the truth, how will she react? Right, I don't want to think about it.
