Cuando Me Enamoro #94 Monday 8/29/11 Masks Go On and Masks Come off and Masks Go On and Masks…

Nightmares relived: Regina loses all reason and accepts Augustin’s ring after reliving all of Jero’s romantic gestures but then, as she suddenly pulls her self out of the reverie. She’s not going to be engrossed by her romantic, emotional feelings. While over at La Bonita, Jero is spouting not so romantically to Carlos that everything of Renata’s is to be removed from La Bonita and no one is to mention her name again. Doctora Tatas reviews paper work while musing, so this is Renata Monterubbio, how lovely she is and I can’t believe they are getting divorced because I hear great passion between them.

Renata swears to Augie that she is going to live differently. He leaps upon her like a wild dog that hasn’t met Cesar Millan yet. Now that she is a free woman, he doesn’t want to lose any time. He reaches into an inner pocket of his eternal (and I imagine a little smelly) windbreaker, and whips out a ring box and proposes on the spot. She thinks in a long pause recalling several of Jero’s hateful acts of rejection and so accepts the ring (almost a 2 carat square cut me thinks.) Not so pretty, her face looks like she is trying to swallow cod liver oil without wretching.

Kari has to hear Dr. Neslime, coming in with his claim that she just can’t live with him. Kari doesn’t share the lewd joke and doesn’t want to carry his name one day more. She has filed for a separation. He acknowledges that Lazaro came to plead for her freedom. He says he may consider a divorce. She reproaches him for having lied about being sterile and blaming her all these years for not having a child. His look of dawning is precious. She has also seen a lawyer and because of the circumstances she can get an immediate divorce from her side alone. She takes off the wedding ring and slams it down leaving the jail. She is never going to see him again.

Lazaro wonders how Ezek can live under the same roof with Alfonsina , Ponchinto and all with the anger. He has to remind Ezek that if he is thinking of leaving, then what is he planning for his TWO kids. Ezek bristles at the mention of two. The child is not to blame. They discuss his obligation from mother’s belly to cradle to childhood. Yes, that child is yours. All the rancor you carry has no value. How do I deal with this, asks Ezek. Lazaro the wise, says with much love and much courage.

Back to Renata who looks like she is getting out of the grip of a boa constrictor. He seems to want to yell on the hillsides and get married immediately (or consummate anything) and she wants to wait to announce the engagement or marry until the church annulment comes through. He recounts how he wanted her from the first day he laid eyes on her. He remembers her every word, gesture and smile from the first moment he met her even though he knew then that she was engaged to Matias. She doesn’t really look turned on by this revelation although she remembers their first meeting in her office too. Cesar would be taking him for a run to work off his aggression right now, but at least he doesn’t want to wait to satisfy his desires and she gets that stiff resolute look again.

Alfonsina is concerned that they are not cooperating with the spraying or fumigating of the infested vines over at La Cruz but Jero doesn’t give a bledo. She insists that if they don’t cooperate the plagues will just come back. Jero blasts out that they will just spray again and again to keep the plague out of their vines. Carlos has a friend in Spain who has used a chemical mixture that has worked in saving his vineyards and Carlos can get the formula so they can make the mixture to spray the roots.

Augie is pressing Renata down on the couch. Renata can’t deal with it. She has to tell him that she is still not ready to be with anyone else. She runs out of the room and he says whatever happens, pase lo que pase, you will be mine. Romantic viewerville is not turned on and wants to run out of the room too. Ickky.

Renata tries to tell her self that what she is doing is not to hurt anyone but to have a better life. She twists the ring uncomfortably then writes Jeronimo Linares on a piece of paper and whips out a lighter (where from) and burns his name in effigy and cries incessantly as she says she wont cry anymore for Jero..

Kari cries to Lazaro that she is so angry that she has endured so much humiliation at Nesme’s hands all this time. Lazaro always so sensible, suggests that she has to make decisions and Kari says she already has. One is that she has decided to divorce Alvaro. She wonders is he wants to have her after she was the wife of Nesme but She can’t divorce because of church laws and in the eyes of god she is still Alvaro’s wife. He thinks under the circumstances she could get help from the padre with the bishop for special dispensation. But no she can’t do that. Therefore she can’t have a relationship with him. Lazaro looks confused by her skewed sense of ethics. She seems to be swearing to be miserable forever. Lazaro has no idea what a favor Augie is going to give him so soon.

Augie is chirping at his luck at beating Jero in this contest for Renata. He gets a call from a worker who is kneeling near some struggling new grapevines, Augie wants NO bad news today. The worker says no he just called to say these beautiful (chula) plants are the new stock that is doing fine and is going to make a wonderful vineyard one day. Augie can’t wait until the vines at La Bonita are ruined and his new stock from Rafa’s plants are thriving on his land and he can then even buy La Bonita ‘s hacienda and lands which will be worthless. Ezek comes in to say it will be too late (to save the Cruz plants from the plague), Augie says it is never too .late. He knows what he is doing.

Gonzo listens Daniel and Mat and the inspector discuss that Blanca is capable of turning to him next. She is an expert at forgeries so will be hard to trap. Gonzo says at least Renata is safe and he will take a hit rather than Matias being next. He assumes Daniel is still there for mercenary reasons but Daniel is repentant. He admits he had foolish desires to get rich quick so that he could win over Adriana. Blanca says Hon has no choice but to go with her. Mat looks like he will snap Daniel’s face off so it’s good that Daniel has already realized the foolishness of his fantasy.

Consta comes outside with a plate and upon seeing Blanca drops the plate on the ground. What are you doing here! Blanca walks up in a loose blouse and points out that she has Honorio’s hijo in her belly. But we have a new Consta who screams that she is lying there is no baby and it is she and Honorio that have an enduring love that Blanca cannot destroy. She tells her to get out of and begins to scream as she grabs at the pillow in Blanca’s blouse. Constanza takes on the superwoman force of a fury and they go to blows as Blanca winds up a smack. But Chema rounds the corner to the rescue and Blanca runs off. Blanca is a coward, Chema salutes Consta’s new found spine then leans down and comes up dizzy, does this mean? He excuses himself that he just stood up too fast. But when does a young man as buff as he is get dizzy like that unless it is a preview of a plot device when Chema becomes inconvenient (remember Adriana’s Mama?)

Matias calls the bank and asks to take cash out, about 20% over the original loan agreed to by the bank (BANK of Jero). Gonzo comes in saying Jero has already discovered where Renata is? No really? How long could a beautiful woman in flowing white gown riding around in the dark on an even more beautiful white horse go unnoticed in a country neighborhood.

Carlos stirs the remedial concoction that will save the wine industry in Baja and talks to Lazaro who can’t understand how things got so bad so fastwith Jero and Renata. Lazaro thinks some people just have bad luck at love. Carlos offers to stop by the church (I think to ward off the bad luck?, didn’t catch this, anyone) Then he quickly says, Chiste, chiste. It’s a joke, man.

The kitchen crew talks about how they don’t like Jero losing Renata to Augie. Kari is going to Cruz de Amor to find out what is going on and Manuela sagely observes that Augie does not have a good reputation for treating his people well so she certainly doesn’t want the same fate to befall Renata. They are all looking around in amusement at someone we don’t’ know in a middle age haircut wig. It is a horrified Matilde who sees herself in a mirror and runs out of the room returning with a towel on her head and the laugher fills the room. She vows that least she will now wear her own hair and look like herself from now on.

Augie comes carrying wine glasses to celebrate and offers that he and Renata will go to Mexico to help out the Empresas Monterubbio as soon as it is safe. They can announce their engagement to her family then. She doesn’t want to give one more scandal on her beleaguered family. Although she says she doesn’t want to drink, I think it might be breakfast time, but she takes a swig and her head is filled with Jero’s kisses not Augie’s for sure.

Jero is pouting in his office when the banker lady calls and tells him that the Monterubbios want to take an additional 20% of the loan money out and she says only he can approve it . So he thinks a long time then says yes let them go ahead with whatever they asked for.

Oops time for the Ball! Consta, Matias and Chema are all dressed up and Adriana comes in wheeling her wheelchair equally beautified and carrying large masks. They all chose silly masks the ladies in color coordination with their lovely gowns. The gold and silver are for the guys.

Regina and Cata are all dressed up talking about how all the money raised for this gala will help so many women. After some delays they sold so many tickets to the ball. Cata wants to go but Regina tells her now Gonzo is coming to plck them up. Cata is so haughty she calls a taxi. She won’t ride with Gonzo and she won’t set at the same table with him. I guess no one told her about Gonzo’s divorce going through.

Back at casa Monterubbio , Fina comes down the stairs in the only pretty dress she has worn on this show. She and Antonio put on big masks, he waves the tickets at her. They are going to enjoy being unrecognizable apparently.

Kari is showing Renata some of her beautiful embroidery or cut work. Kari has noticed that there is something between Renata and Augie. Yeah she needs to change her life and Augie had offered to help her do this. How can she love Jero and go with Augie. Kari doesn‘t think Augie is the man for Renata. Renata insists that Augie is an exceptional man (oh when you finally know in what way, girl) and she is determined she is finished with Jero and has divorced him. Kari and viewerville look at her askance in the same way we looked at Kari a few scenes ago.

Jero and Lazaro walk with emty spray bottles, Jero repeats that he is so glad that Lazaro didn’t leave and go to the United States. Jero is interrupted by Dr. Tatas who wonders about how it went with the wife and Jero says, not well, she isn’t my wife anymore and we did not end on good terms.. Without skipping a beat he asks her to have dinner and a chat.

Matilde is wringing her napkin and is so terrified that she won’t be accepted by Carlos parents. Suddenly he jumps up from reassuring her and says, here they are now. Meet the Parents starts in earnest with seeming innocence. Matilde brings on the charm, she loves the dress they brought her and adds, you are as handsome as your son. They are all so very glad to meet. Dad says we are very excited to meet you emocionado as she is the first girlfriend novio their son has ever presented to them and Carlos corrects this to she’s my fiancé prometido.

Back to Jero he goes off with a happy Doc Tatas and Lazaro voices what we think: that his patron could recover so rapidly. He thinks he could walk up to two beauties nearby and then can’t pull it off. He walks off saying he can’t think of anyone but Karina.

The Gala has begun, Gonzo has the lovely Regina on his arm and they greet Inez and Isidro who ask where Doña Cata is? Here she comes observes Isidro who tries to seat her in the middle at the table She makes enough of a ugly fuss to come to the head table and then refuse to sit there but goes off to take coffee with someone else. So the four sit at the head table. Matias and Adriana arrive with Consta and Chema.
Gonzo thinks Regina’s mother has worked so much in the Center, she deserves the honor of being at the head table more than he does. Regina responds that he is her partner and she doesn’t want him to leave just because her mother is being so stubborn muy terca.

Gonzo goes over to greet Consta and Matias. Gonzo wants to know what is Chema doing at their table, But he works in the center so he came. Gonzo thlnks with the irritation Cata has with him and Chema with his sister is more trouble than they need. Cata sits with Consta and tries to tell her her place of honor is with her. She can’t understand no cabe en la cabeza this behavior. Then she launches on Consta how can you play with a man who could be the boyfriend of your daughter. She can’t see it and has insulted enough people, so she leaves the table. We are glad.

Renata and Augie sit by a fountain in front of Cruz de Amor talking about the beautiful night and Augie modestly says he commanded it just for her. Renata steps away just as Roberta gets out of a cab and starts to greet Augie romantically who gives our favorite line: que haces aqui, when Renata comes walking back with a surprised word, Roberta?

All the goodies in Tuesday and beyond: Renata might figure out Roberta and Augie are entangled. Carlos tells Jero that Renata and Augie are engaged and are going to marry. And what about that masquerade, surely there is more romance and adventure here?

Cheryl, what a delightful recap starting with your insightful title.

"Lazaro has no idea what a favor Augie is going to give him so soon." That's funny! Good one amiga.

I didn't realize Augie was so clueless. Didn't he think it odd that he proposed, Renata accepted, then she couldn't stand to be with him so dashed off to her own room?

Did Carlos say that Jero and Laz should stop by the church to pray to San Antonio for new girlfriends? Ack, I'll bet Carlos will (joke joke) have to do that for himself before too long.

Funny how Laz commented on the rapidity of Jero's love recovery.

Why was Matilde in the wig? I must have missed something.

Is it just me or did Carlos's papa seem just a bit too enamored of Mati?

"so [Cata] leaves the table. We are glad." Yes we are. Die you terminal wet blanket! You are becoming inconvenient.

Speaking of inconvenient...Chema, it was nice knowing you lad. Seriously, I hope he's OK but as you say, why would a strapping lad suddenly become dizzy? Since he can't be pregnant then he must be dying.

Oh my, and Roberta shows up for the sister showdown. Yeehaw! Things seem to be heating up. Just wait until Fina and Tony show up at the party.

Thanks Cheryl!

Delightful Cheryl! Good fun reading with the morning coffee and a beautiful sunrise.

"She can’t see it and has insulted enough people, so she leaves the table. We are glad." I was beyond glad - wish she'd bend over and get "dizzy".

I agree with you guys, not a good sign for our Chema. We just knew that with Hon and Con realizing their true love and Adri and Matias doing the smoochies that spare boy needed to be dealt with. Guess it's just a question of what disease/illness the writers decide to bestow upon our handsome lad. :(

That mask of Fina's reminded me of Medusa - how appropriate. Seriously, not like people are staying hidden with those things, or are unrecognizable. What are she and Toni planning? Hoping Gina realizes he of the expressionless face has hooked up with her arch enemy. That should toast him for good.

Augie - Mr. I with every fiber of my being...I guess putting a ring on it means you get to go into attack mood. Not exactly what I would call a smooth operator. Did not like that snear and "you will be mine" attitude. Please dear fates, do not have this guy get rough with our Nata...

Oh, and Sylvia, methinks also dear old Dad had a few un-fatherly thoughts about son's new girl. Thought the meet and greet with mumsy actually went well - could it be we had it wrong and Dad becomes the problem? And where are these brothers that were supposed to come?

Sorry, but getting a little tired of the Kari tears - was almost hoping poor Laz would make a play for the lass in the square...me bad. Wish Padre Big Mouth would make himself useful and help Kari. Knowcking off the Doc will be good, but shouldn't be the only way she can ditch the idiot.

Actually was glad to see Berta - now mess up Augie's plans girl. Do something useful in your miserable life.

Cheryl, this was a hoot start to finish. Your dry wit had me chuckling & you describe with such isight.

I love your description of Auggie as a wild dog who needs Cesar Millan to tame him. I was so grossed out by the way he pounced on Renata -- and the sneer on his face when she ran out of the room was scary. I hope she is able to keep him at arms length. I agree with you Sylvia that Auggie showed poor perception where Renata is concerned. He is so full of himself and his gloating that he missed entirely her body language. As you said Cheryl --Nata escaped his clutches like But his big ego never noticed.

That burning Jero's name scene was a bit odd -- but Renata swearing not to shed another tear for Jeronimo and then dissolving in tears was powerful. She is such a good actress.

Oh Chema! What indeed does your dizziness portend? Will it in some way tie Cons to you even as she unmasks Blanca & begins to rediscover her strong love for Honorio?

And speaking of Cons -- what a firebrand! She is one feisty lady. I loved her pulling out that pillow --and too bad there wasn't a witness when Blanca threatened Cons and (did I hear this right?) told her that Hon is in jail for rejecting her. Not sure I got all that but BSC is getting more unhinged and therefore more dangerous every day.

I am so glad that Jeronimo did the right thing in continuing to back the loans to the empressa. When he hesitated I was afraid he would act in anger and hurt -- but he stood by his commitment. Good boy, Jero. Wonder when BSC will find out he is also standing in her way?

Güera

Good work, Cheryl.

He leaps upon her like a wild dog that hasn’t met Cesar Millan yet.

This is true and more. Augustin hits new lows all the time, so I am now going to give him the ugly title of Emotional Cannibal. When he declared that Renata will be his he may as well have been sharpening knives. I was ready to hurl.

Gabriela Elizondo of FELS was an emotional vampire. It is possible to recover from involvement with those. Augustin is as deadly as Dr NesDeath.

I don't get why Kari believes she is obliged to be miserable unless one considers herself unworthy after years of brainwashing by a creep like this. Augustin will do to Renata what Alvaro has done to Kari.

When is Mathilde going to lose that stupid headband and little-girl voice?

Three ole's for Constanza for how she stood up to BSC Blanca.

Regina's mother really needs to get hit with a clue by four.

Cheryl- You had so many great lines, but I too loved the Cesar Milan line. :) Augie was like a dog in heat with Nata on the couch. Ick!

So glad to see Kari stand up to Alvaro and say she's getting her divorce. She also had the girls on full display. Even though it was frsutrating to see her still reject Laz because she's still a married woman in the eyes of the Church, I didn't lose hope. She has come so far! She now sees she can suport herself, she now knows she is likely capable of having chilrden, she confronted Alvaro, AND she demanded a divorce. Those are big things. I'll give her some more time to deal with her issues about what is right in the eyes of God. I resepct that she is a deeply religous person and so do those around her. I place the responsibility of her being able to get to that next step on her spiritual advisor, the Padre. His track record where Kari is concerned does not give me hope that he'll step up and encourage her to find her happiness and make a life with Laz.

And once again Laz proves what a hero he is. He continues to give good advice to Zeke, and he's suprised by how quickly Jero is getting his flirt on with another woman when the ink on his divorce papers aren't even dry, yet Laz can barely look at another woman after YEARS of pining for Kari.

My first thought after the dizzy spell: "Is Chema pregnant?!" But you all are probably right that he's got some illness that will take him out of the running. Most likely because the actor had to go film his next tn, LFdD, I'm guessing. Whatever Cata feels about her daughter and Gonzo, does not give her the right to criticize Connie's choice to date Chema. Connie's not her daughter and didn't ask her opinion.

Tonight should be good. Lots of dinners that could be game changing-- Carlos and Mati and his parents; the gala; Nata, Berta and Augie; and Jero and Marina.

Looks like Renata is set out to adopt a new personailty, a cold one that will not shed anymore tears.

Did anyone else notice Kari's shiny, plumped up and uplifted tata's when she was sitting across from Dr Nasty?

I like how the characters are assigned a wardrobe and palette, Carlos gets to blend in with the walls at La Bonita, Dr Yellow of the Tata's, Mati and her corsets and hairband, etc, etc.

I also noticed Carlos' dad looking at Mati in a creepy way...yuck.

rubycantu- Yes, I notices Kari's girls on display, see above. I think hers are real, unlike Dr. Tatas or Alfie.

Vivi, I saw your post after I posted mine, I just noticed that they looked like they had been polished to a high shine...lol.

Very funny, Cheryl... and very complete. Nice job. I especially enjoyed your reference to the Dog Whisperer. I'm opposed to the use of electrical shock collars for dogs and of course Cesar Millan doesn't use them, but wouldn't it be fun to see one used on Augie?

Now that I think about it, Jerry could probably benefit from one as well.

I'm going to offer a less lethal (and admittedly much less likely) possible cause for Chema's swoon. Could it be that he overheard Coni's declaration of her powerful love for Honorio and he was suddenly stunned to realize that he doesn't stand a chance? I don't wish bad for him, I just want him gone.

I can't believe what they did to our Matilde. I think that I may have been as shocked as she was. I thought that she ended up looking stunning in that outfit Carlos' mom gifted her with... headband and all. I can imagine a faint scent of White Witch (a fragrance popular on Grand Cayman).

I thought that Gonzo was every bit as petty with Coni as Cata was with Regina... and I can't stand Chema.

Carlos

Could it be that Chema has acquired the dreaded "Mystery Alonso Disease"?
Just sayin', ha, ha.

Let me join the chorus of those who are more and more annoyed by Cata. She was insufferable with Gonzalo and Regina but then she had the nerve to chide Cons to her face as well. She always looks as though she is sucking lemons. Yes we were glad when we thought she was going to another table where we wouldn't have to see her pinch-faced self -- but alas we were not that lucky.

Vivi, you're right. I hadn't thought about the setup of four game changing dinners set for tonight.

I'm anxious to see what ensues with the Auggie/ Renata/ Roberta confrontation.

Yeah- Carlos' dad did have quite an unsettling leer on his face when he got a look at Mati. What may be in store???

Thanks to those of you who wished us well for our party this weekend for my Mom's 90th. From noon to four we celebrated with 90 or so guests. Mom even danced a little. She and the other church ladies ogled the Elvis impersonator that my sister-in-law hired. Then we gathered at a local hotel & after Mom took a nap she joined us to celebrate with family until midnight. She's a trooper that one.

Irene got in the way of some of the guests when they tried to get home through the floods on Sunday. It's normally a 2 1/2 hour drive for my sister to get to Albany -- Sunday it took her 6 hours. My niece in Vermont made it home ok Saturday night but Bennington is heavily damaged since then. It was quite the weekend!

Hola amigos, I was looking up and down from screen to keyboard too much to catch the leers from Carlos' Papa. That will turn Mama off of Matilde for sure, so I don't think we are in the safety zone on this one. And Urban I love the "clue by four" image, yes let's get one for Cata now.

Isn't it fun to see Constanza stand up for herself and Honorio. Maybe that is what Blanca needed all along but she got crumple fast Honorio as a sucker to move her scheme ahead.

The Cesar Millan reference is in honor of Willa and Carlos, I wouldn't advise electrical prods for anyone but our wild men who think they are such hotties either. Maybe Renata needs one of those electrified gates outside her door at night.

It felt like the whole episode was a set up night, so many stories were turning a corner. I too am looking forward to the R-R-A meetings at Cruz de Amor, they are going to need Cruz Roja or Cruz Verde (Mexican traffic angels) before this is resolved. I am mostly delighted that Roberta is there to open Renata's tighly shut eyes too.

Oh, and Carlos, I also prefer your alternate diagnosis for Chema. I really, really like him too but he just doesn't fit anymore.

You guys posted some great comments this morning. Urban, you were on fire - Emotional Cannibal, clue by four - that's good stuff.

I forgot to compliment Cheryl on the Cesar Millan reference, also had me laughing out loud.

I cheered when Cons pulled the pillow out of stupid BSCBlanca's shirt. I didn't hear what La Loca yelled but hopefully she let something slip to Cons.

Cheryl, I agree that last night felt like a set-up night. I for one can not wait until tonight's show to see how Mr. Smooth and Inappropriate deals with his surprise guest.

DaisyinJay, I love your Medusa mask on Fina, it's so right. I also am more than ready for Kari to take the no tears pledge. She has come so far though as Vivi points out. We have to celebrate these advances even if each one seems small. Think what a clueless place she started from. I really like this character so I am hoping she wakes up and flings herself at Lazaro's feet;, and NOT wild dog style.

Guera, I am so glad to hear your report of surviving the storm and putting on such a fine celebration for your Mama. Dancing at 90, she's my new role model! I hope she is still doing it at her 100th birthday party.

Güera, yep, what Cheryl says, thank you for telling us about your mother's 90th party. It sounds like such fun, especially the Elvis impersonator part. And then dancing until midnight? I'd say your mom is at least a trooper and more like a party animal, LOL!!

Thanks. It was fun & Mom was fun.

Cheryl, I gotta say again how much I enjoyed this recap. our description of Nata trying to be happy with Auggie but looking as though she is" trying to swallow cod liver oil without wretching" was priceless. Renata does have a new look-- colder and like chiseled marble. SN is masterful at conveying emotion with just a look.

I also loved your description of Auggie wearing his his "eternal (and I imagine a little smelly) windbreaker,"

Güera

Greetings all and a special shout-out to Güera's mom who danced 'till midnight.

One of my exuberant students has a mother who's 95 and still shovels her own driveway (in northern Wisconsin). Clearly we have a lot to live up to!

For some reason what really cracked me up in the recap was Cheryl's Spanglish "he doesn't give a bledo". I may start saying that.

Great title as well.

On the "wig", I thought the madrina was styling Matilde's hair (although obviously it WAS a wig) and then she was so horrified at the results, she ran to the bathroom and washed it all out.

The other funny scene was Carlos and Laz playing with those beakers of colored water (supposedly mixing a great plague repellent). Reminded me of pre-schoolers messing with Playdough.

Still think Kari can get an annulment since Doc is sterile and lied about it, but whatever. More drama for our star-crossed lovers.

Thanks for the extra vocab and phrases, Cheryl. Bien hecho.

Thanks for the great read, Cheryl. Other recappers, too...I haven't been commenting much lately but have caught up on all your recaps and really appreciate them. In addition to filling in the parts I missed, they are so entertaining. Gracias.

I was cheering for Kari last night. This is major progress for her. She's been slowly and increasingly stripped of her self-esteem and rationality for so long, I'm actually impressed that she's come so far, figuring out how to support herself and actually seeking a divorce. Now if Augie's plan would just succeed, maybe she could stop crying and move on.

How has Blanca not been arrested yet? Don't they have at least as much proof that she's committed crimes as she has fabricated against Honorio?

I'm really curious to see what happens with Carlos's family. At least so far his mother seems to have manners. I wonder what exactly is lurking underneath. I get more than my fill of blatant snobby rudeness from Oriana on Teresa so I'm really glad that at least Mom de Carlos didn't immediately bare her fangs and call Matilde a gold-digger lowlife.

Cheryl, great recap-as always. Thanks for the vocab.

Some Fav Lines:

“He reaches into an inner pocket of his eternal (and I imagine a little smelly) windbreaker”

“Lazaro has no idea what a favor Augie is going to give him so soon.” Hopefully, this is true.

“No really? How long could a beautiful woman in flowing white gown riding around in the dark on an even more beautiful white horse go unnoticed in a country neighborhood.” One of those laugh out loud moments for me.

Re: Dr. Nasty’s imminent death: part of the plot may be to have Dr. Nasty eliminated before he can confess what he knows.

Cata: Your daughter isn’t doing what YOU want her to so you’re having a major hissy fit.

Still can’t believe that Nata went straight into an engagement with Auggie. Auggie’s ego is ginormous if he doesn’t get it that he’s classic “rebound/revenge on Jero” guy.

Kari (wearing a dress to taunt Dr. Nasty) slams her ring down, but is wearing a ring in the next scene with Laz. Let’s give the prod crew the benefit of the doubt and say she’s wearing a different ring and not that they have a continuity prob. Continuity is a big bugaboo with me (Jero had his ring back on, right after throwing it into the drawer a few eps back, but that seems consistent with his character. I didn’t notice if he had his ring on last night when he said he was erasing all traces of Nata).

Nata’s crying about Jero broke my heart. Brings back memories. SN did a great job.

Good for Jero not allowing his anger at Nata cause him to pull the financial rug out from under Empresas Monterubbio.

Was it just a weird bit of camera work or did it look like Carlos’ father was giving Mati the eye? Sylvia, just read your comment. It seems we saw the same thing. And we’re not alone.

The scene where Laz tries to talk to the two women but can’t because of Kari was so cute.

Cata: Re: your convo with Consta. You’re a bitter old woman (she’s probably just frustrated because she wants her own version of a boy toy—Antonio.)

Guera: I’ve read a lot of books that mention writing something down and then burning it is a kind of letting go. It also releases that intention into the Universe.

Here’s hoping that Jero doesn’t try and get engaged to Marina once he finds out Nata is engaged to Auggie. Probably wouldn’t happen anyway, as the lady doc is too smart for that.

Guera: A belated birthday wish to your mom. Bless her, I don't think I have the energy to dance until midnight now. May she keep dancing for many many years to come.

Novelera: OMG - laughed at the Alonso reference. Let us hope that our beloved writers don't stray to that TDA path. I don't think I could take it.

You know with all these lovely "ladies" being displayed lately on a regular basis, I say us followers of the female persuasion start getting a little more male bicep-pecs time. I think we're getting gypped.

For those interested in Pedro Almodovar

(Sorry, don't know how to add it as a link).

Renata's tendency to jump into serious relationships with less than total enthusiasm is maddening. She did it with Matias and now Augie. Though she was enthusiastic over Jerry, I think even so, that she had reservations about him as well.

This seems to be an ubiquitous flaw among the TN ladies.

Carlos

Hey, Cheryl, many thanks for another great one.

Chema: we've already done leukemia w/ Andresito. Maybe he's going out of the story on a pretext of finding S.G. Areli.

Constanza: cool the way she dealt w/ BSCB. I'd started thinking of Coni as Our Lady of Lladro. Maybe she'll start wearing colors other than pink, too.

Renata: how long since we've seen her throat? Always wearing a scarf, it seems. Possible reasons: to conceal a festering carbuncle; to conceal hickies; maybe a tatt that she was sure she'd love after the fifth shot of tequila.

Kari: don't run around showing your self off like that if you're going to masochistically hold on to your sick, cratered marriage.

Dona Cata: Miralax will help her.

Matilde's hair styling scene, IMHO, was just filler material to help this episode end on time. Funny, though.

In honor of Napa Baja in CME, I just returned from a morning of gallery sitting for a friend's 50 year retrospective. It is hanging in the old Anderson winery in Ranchos de Albuquerque, a very shee-shee old neighborhood. The defunct winery is now owned by the village and the huge bldg that held the vatsand barrels now holds art shows. Willa and I spent a lovely day in the gallery then finished by wading through flooded vines and picking sweet wine grapes to take home. Willa especially liked the wading part but otherwise wanted to be in the air-conditioned gallery.

I can't waitfor tonight's episode to see the rest of the masked gala, Roberta as houseguest of the month and so many adventures that started last night.

Always a pleasure to read your recaps Cheryl. When I read them, I feel like I'm reading a snarky novel. Thanks too for the long vocab list which I'm proud to say I mostly knew already.

Let's hope we don't have another case of cancer on this show, unless of course, it would be Fina, who couldn't be more deserving.

Yeah, Dona Gringita, I hope Chema just goes in peace. Afterall he has his new role on the newest telenovela and I agree we don't need another deadly disease. The best punishment and/or reward for all the characters is that they have to stay and face eachother until the bloody end.

Thanks, Cheryl. Sorry to be so late to the party. I loved your recap and agree that it's like reading a snarky novel.

When Fina put on her mask, all I could think of was Cruella DeVille! Poor Tony hasn't a clue who he has hooked up with. We can hope he finds out at the masque ball...

Robey, thanks for the Almodovar link. It reminds me to rent a couple of his movies when my girlfriend comes to visit me in September.

Dona Gringuita, I am hoping for a long, slow, painful brain tumor for Fina since that's what she faked.

Sorry for the late comment. I seem to run a viewing day behind during the week. Cheryl, I hope you get to read my THANK YOU. You have a cute way of looking at things. I love it. The vocab is awesome. You guys could publish an "Every word and phrase you need to know for telenovela viewing" compendium.

I am not getting the reference about Laz having no idea what a favor Augie's going to give him so soon. Anyone? (But not if it's a spoiler, just if it's something I've missed)

Yes, I do think Carlos' papa had a lecherous grin. Oh oh.

NO NO NO (temper tantrum) I don't want Chema to be sick! Let's get rid of Daniel or Diego. They don't have lush eyelashes.

Vivi and Ruby... so glad you brought up Kari's shiny bosom. What was that all about? Did she just get back from competing in a weight lifting competition?

Mike... the Miralax... haha Let's make it a double.

Rosemary la Otra

Rosemary La O, in a recent episode Augi called someone to put a hit out on Doc Nesme (kill him), hence the favor that Augi is inadvertently doing for Laz. Augi is more dangerous than I originally thought.

Ah.... right. Thanks, Sylvia!
