Alborada, 9/12/2011. Cap. 73.

Today's episode is covered in Melinama's Recap #28, Monday segment, at this link.

On YouTube, haguilar78's clips for Cap 72 start at this link.

Thank you, Carlos, for today's picture. I'm reminded of the old dig, "No, Diego, everybody doesn't hate you! How can you think such a thing? Everybody doesn't know you!"

Oh no, poor little doggie looked very dirty! But maybe he had fun in the stables. Anyway, I hope that La Poderosa decides to adopt him. Also, I am VERY glad that there is a plan to help Mirtha. Figures it would be our hero Marcos to work that one out. These arrangements would nicely tie up a couple of loose ends. I worry about those little details.

Carlos, once again you selected some fantastic screen shots. And Paula, your amazing memory provided us with the perfect caption.

Hooray for Andres! It looks like he is finally growing a pair.

This just keeps getting better and better.

Now, I forgot. Why exactly did Don Diego wish for a plump widow-bride?

I am liking Antonio. Too bad he has to be a bad guy here.

Doesn't Diego just creep you out though? He does such a good job of being creepy.

I just love Isabel. She is such a nice person.

Cindy

Audrey, Diego (i.e. Juana) wants an heir, hence he wants a wife who can pop out the babies, preferably of the male variety. The widow already has a couple of sons and wants LOTS more so she is the preferred candidate, poor thing.

Cindy, I agree that the actor playing Diego is doing a great job of acting creepy. I think he is supposed to be displaying signs of late-stage (tertiaray) syphilis, e.g. poor balance, dementia, pain in his back and lower regions, etc.

Isn't Isabel the best? That is why this blog is named to honor her character.

That poor, poor woman who is marrying Diego. She doesn't know what she's getting herself into.

I'm glad someone is now helping Mirtha. But she is sort of right when she asked where exactly she could go. It's not like there were a ton of countries in those days where a mixed-race Black slave woman could jet off to and start a new life, unbothered and able to support herself.

Each episode I fall more in love with Marcos, which is confusing because each episode of LFdD I hate his character there more and more.

If Diego has syphilis, what will become of poor Marina?

I read that people in the tertiary stage of syphilis are not infectious. Hopefully Diego is so far along that he did not infect Marina. I imagine the disease must have been rampant back in the day.

I came to the same conclusion the first time around, about Diego and the syphilis (I'm not going to say whether we're right or not; just that I did!). I remember the exact moment, too - it was when he came home with his pants around his ankles and tried to lift his leg on everything that resembled a tree. That can't help but make you think something about that boy ain't right! Beyond simply being a spoiled, drunken man-brat, I mean.

You almost have to feel sorry for Juana, don't you? She's obviously not a Good Person, but I've never thought of her as evil just for evil's sake, either (that dishonour is reserved more for people like Diego or even Francisco) - she's evil with a specific purpose (her son), and it's coming back to bite her in the arse now and she knows it. I don't even think she's completely unrepetent - she's just waaayy too deep in it to back out now.

She and her rolling eyes made that marriage contract scene, though. Every time Diego glanced at his fianceé, I couldn't help but thought-bubble him, "Well, we know who's getting the better end of this deal," and every time Juana glanced between them, it was, "Of all the questionable things you've ever done, this may be the most questionable."

Felipe has more patience for Luis' nonsense than I would. I'd've looked straight at Hipo on the way out of the sickroom and pointed out that she has two babies.

I understand why Diego wants a widow who has already born sons. I don't remember why he preferred a plump bride.
