Cuando Me Enamoro #112 Monday 9/26/11 Nueva Etapa? Oh Ya Think So? Maybe We’ll Call It Mala Etapa

Sweeping up the bits from last week: Jero makes plans with Doctora Marina Tataterrific. Is he resolved to forget the love of his life, Renata so quickly?

On to tonight’s revelations: Roberta enters the house, climbs the stairs to her room and looks at her box of memories. Included is the engagement from Rafael. She tries on the ring and begins to replay that Rafa movie she loves so well. How Rafa loved her and she loved him. He wants to take her to the hacienda and grow grapes and she hesitates but accepts. (I think I remember she was whining inside about missing all the fun and action of Mexico City?) She looks truly happy in the reverie of this one true love, then she is on the floor on that enviable purple sweater crying her eyes out.

Alfonsina walking among the grape vines has an attack of stomach cramps.

Jero finally gets around to seeing Dr. Nesme the Nasty. Nesme tells Jero he is worried that Agustin will find out he is still alive. He repeats, Agustin wants not just your woman but your lands and your mother vines. We see Nesme’s brain movie of getting into the protective cage at Rafa’s with Augie holding the light. Augie plans to take the plants to another secret field to develop them, then come back and destroy all your plants.

Nesme begs pardon for his wrong doing. He wants another chance to have a good life with Cari far from here. .Jero expresses conditions that if Nesme is to remain safe, he must remain hidden.

Cari goes shopping for a wedding dress in ignorant bliss of the cauldron of dead white fish that is headed her way.

Sot descending the staircase: Roberta drinks and thinks (or perhaps merely remembers), As if Rafa has hidden himself inside her bottle, she pleads, you seemed so sincere, I want to believe that if you didn’t arrive like you promised it was only because you were killed. I think you really did love me the most. (or, maybe the only one who ever did) My dear love, if you weren’t a coward to carry me away, then I could have gone with you and we would now be happy together with our baby too.

Laz , Carlos and Jero talk about the theft of the super-vine cutting. What are they going to do to prove Augie’s theft. It is dangerous. (somebody ought to tell Zeke just how dangerous) Matilde arrives so they talk cheerfully about the coming double wedding. Carlos, Matilde and Laz all go off happy he tells them he’ll see them tomorrow, all is okay (in spite of his dour face) and tells them he can’t go eat with them he has another plan.

At Cruz de Amor, Zeke says the new sprouts are almost ready (to establish the new Cruz plants and for the plan to ruin the Bonita’s crop). Agustin threatens Zeke again that he is to stay right on top of this work and don’t even think of backing out or telling anyone what is going on. The bottom teeth are in full jutting position, so Zeke hops to it.

Renata in her flannel jammies gets a text from Augie: Even though we are distant, I want you to know that I am at your side. And I will always be at your side, ALWAYS? She texts back that it gives her a lot of peace to know he is there. She wishes he will rest well then puts the phone down on the other side of the room so she won’t sleep next to it. So is he really at her side? (and did I miss a small lobotomy or drug injection here? Where is our smart Renata? And who is this dopey robot wearing her pajamas?) She sleeps and dreams right away. She is in the bed with Jero hugging her (nicely photographed). She is so cozy for a moment then she turns on the light to find herself alone to realize that it was a dream.

At the restaurant the romantic son-of-a-gun toasts Marina with more good wine. He has something important to ask her. She smiles waiting for a wedding proposal, and he asks her if she would like to live with him at La Bonita, a bit crestfallen she smiles. (Did I miss some procedure on HER head?)

Another dream sequence shows the bride and Jero in front of Padre but when the veil is lifted for the kiss it is Marina Tatas. NO! Renata wakes mumbling Don’t abandon me, don’t marry her. The bride wasn’t me it was Marina. The song croons Don’t abandon me for emphasis. While back at the restaurant, Jero then says he thinks marriage doesn’t work for him. We don’t have to make the usual promises just to be together. Marina agrees that a love needs to be honest and not built on empty promises.

Regina promises herself that it is better to go alone to meet Pepa and thinks it is also better than no one knows what she is going to do. She could lose everything since Papea is keeping vigil over her if she discovers she hasn’t followed Pepa’s orders. (I know I’m harping on this but what happened to this smart woman?) Suddenly Gonzolo knocks and comes in to say with concerned looks, you look worried and tense. He promises he is really here with her. She says her too. The phone rings, o sure it is Pepa telling her, you better pay attention and follow to the letter of what I want if I am to tell you about who your daughter is.

In the other restaurant. where the two couples talk about Jero’s reluctance to be the padrino or best man for Lazaro’s and Cari’s wedding, Mati waves her engagement ring saying it is more elegant than anything she ever expected to have. Lazaro asks Cari would like one? She demures while he summons the waiter who brings a red rose which magically has a lovely engagement ring inside the bloom. He puts it on her hand promising her she will soon be Senora Lopez. He wants them to be together happily ever after forever (while we all picture that caldron of dead white… oh wait a minute, those fish are thrashing around, but here they come sliding along on words like forever…). Carlos observes what a sound investment it is to spend money (on a ring) so you can get the benefit of being happy. They all laugh happily for now.

Back at the prison hospice ward, Nesme is anxious to resume his happy life with Cari far from here. The doctor reminds him that perhaps that could happen but he is in danger. Nesme wants his wife to know he is alive so she won’t feel vanguished (delusions of grand happiness) He has been reflecting in his coma and now wants his new life. The doctor observes that he can’t leave this room and everyone outside of it is thinking he doesn’t exist.

Fina calls Roberta from her hotel hideout asking has she done it? No, Roberta sighs, the door to Tia’s is locked. Fina has to tell her that there is a spare set of HON/CON ‘s keys in the office. She better get over there and do her part. Fina gives a snide reminder to Roberta that she has to perform this next step of her big plan or she will have lost everything. Roberta really doesn’t like to work, but she has to step up to the nasty.

Roberta has the evidently decided to help. She walks into Constanza house with a plastic bag and a flashlight, quiet as a dust mop in her pajamas and slippers. She steps into Renata’s room then into the bathroom. How did she know which room to pick? Hmmm. She comes back out still looking for ahh yes a hair brush. It goes into the plastic bag. Regina sleeps sweetly and Roberta starts out of the house but has to step into the shadows when Matias comes out from the kitchen with a glass of water he disappears through the door that leads to the bedrooms. Roberta holds her breath until she gets out the door. Have we ever seen Roberta do something so smoothly and competently? She’s a born cat burglar, it’s nothing short of impressive.

An kitchen encounter with Manuela, Lazaro and Cari after the dinner, they share the engagement story as Cari swoons. as she shows Manuela the ring. Manuela who loves creating new myths says it not only signifies a promise/engagement but it means that you have a man that loves you deeply. Lazaro says I will love her my whole life. Manuela says many people go through this life having never known such love and you didn’t have it with Dr. Nesme but now you have it with my godson. Your love with be blessed forever and will last forever. I am very proud of your love that has conquered all those nasty obstacles in life. Oh hear those wheels cranking as the carts creep forward. She just said forever way way too many times.

Renata dressed for work the next morning, looks for her toothbrush and hairbrush so she can comb her tangled curls, she stubs her shin and finds a brush in the night table. Over at the doomed house of Monterubbio, Fina insists that Renata’s hairbrush goes straight into Roberta’s purse and the toothbrush in the plastic bag has to stay in the purse for three days. Roberta hasn’t studied DNA planting so whines that she can’t figure out why Fina is making her do all these nutty things. Roberta brings up being upset with Fina’s cold blooded disdain for Consta’s life so she is worried if Fina could harm Consta, she wants Fina to swear that she had nothing to do with the death of Rafa. Fina puts on her best crocodile tears and swears without faltering. She now lies without ever flinching. I know that you are suffering for the loss of this sweet boy you loved so much. It hurts me that you could think I could have had anything to do with this. I’m so sorry you are suffering but it wasn’t me.

At Constanza’s bedside, Adriana tells Consta how much she has come to love her like a mother. She wants to be at her side and they will be a happy family. Consta is smiling but also grimacing when Honorio overhears this good news as he enters with a big bunch of roses. Consta silently talks inside her head that she hopes Fina isn’t going to hurt them too. She can’t warn them.

Chema meets Matias outside the hospital. Matias whines so that I couldn’t concentrate on all of it but Chema seems to be trying to be fair so tells him he better make a good pair with Adriana. He wants her too so Matias and he should get an agreement and make it legal for Adriana for her loyalty.

Regina cries and thinks she wishes her mother were there to see her granddaughter returned. The banker lady brings in the big black bag, seemingly full of money. Regina says this represents so much happiness. (I think using it for a trip to Rio would bring just as much happiness, but…) The woman says, I wish someone was going with you. Regina says no one knows what is in here. Only the Virgin and I can know what a treasure she is gaining with this exchange. Renata walks in, greets Regina in a very friendly manner then explains to banker lady that Regina is her fathers novia and also Jeronimo’s great friend. The woman notes that the two have such a similar air about them, they grin at each other with seeming pleasure then Regina leaves with the bulging black bag.

Carlos questions why Jero has a problem with Lazaro and Cari’s marriage. Yes he has a problem but he wants to talk to Lazaro alone.

Banker lady and Renata get back to the loan. Renata wants to know how much interest they are going to owe on the loan from the bank, er from Jeronimo. Bank lady says oh, I see you know where it came from. Yes, and Renata wants to pay it back as soon as possible so how much is the interest? Well actually the interest rate is ZERO.. She assures Renata that Jeronimo is a wonderful person. It is small wonder that he is so rich, he gives to everyone so generously and it always seems to come back to him.

Matias is being snotty with Adriana about her decision to be with Chema finally the snot says he knows that he loves her and wants to be with her. But he keeps putting words in her mouth, she can’t seem to make up her mind and she should know that he has made up his mind but she must decide between her feelings for him and for Chema because he can’t stand being in doubt. Both he and Chema want to be with her. He whines so thoroughly that Adriana, actually looks sideways in confusion.

Alfonsina clutches up in pain, staggers over toward a grassy spot and faints, the workers rush to her saying it must be because of her pregnancy so they need to carry her carefully somewhere inside.

Padre is telling Cari that it isn’t a good idea that Laz and she marry the same day as Carlos and Matilde. She can’t figure out why he is saying this He says it is because the people are very traditional and would think it is bad that she marry when Nesme is so recently…. Can’t bring himself to say DEAD cause he can’t lie. So Padre thinks it would be much better for the peoole if ahe waits just a little year to marry Lazaro. The time will go so fast she won’t notice. A YEAR, says a shocked Cari. Huh? Well that went well, didn’t it.

Lazaro comes to Jero’s office asks what problem Jero has if he doesn’t want to be the padrino at their wedding. Jero says It would be a grand honor to do this. It isn’t because he doesn’t want to but it is because he can’t. He doesn’t want to give him bad news, but he can’t be keep quiet. (already noted last week) Poor Lazaro says cant you at least tell me why not? Jero grabs his shoulders and says because Cari is not a widow. Dr. Nesme is alive. Fade to black and white shocked Lazaro, Yikes.

Next chapter; Jero and Tata announce their “engagement to live together at La Bonita” to an astounded Padre and Regina gets to see the picture of the Monterubbio family finally realizing that Pepa is Fina. She will ask, but is Renata or Roberta my daughter?

A Few Things:
Did anyone else notice and/or comment on the bedroom wallpaper of the three Monterubbio women? Bad Mom Fina, of course, had black wallpaper with slender white flowers behind her bed. Roberta’s was the reverse of white background and black flowers. Renata’s was bright red with black flowers. We probably won’t see all of them again and I just forgot to bring it up. Maybe someone else already did.

Did anyone watch the Rick Bayless program this past weekend on Baja California and especially the Guadalupe Valley? A wonderful vision of scenery, cuisine and fine wine. It really made me want to go there even more than the same influences in CME.

Cheryl! I am waiting for another one of your excellent recaps! I am SO upset at the latest developments; SO UPSET!!!

Susanita

Susanita, Believe me, I feel your pain. I think the only remedy is to go back and look at Carlos' posting of Fernando shirtless in Alborada a bunch of times. Nothing else will help, I'm pretty sure.

Trying to wake up this morning with steaming coffee, but your funny recap has helped the most.
Ever the voice of reason, you sure hit the nail on the head with some of the antics last night.

" Where is our smart Renata? And who is this dopey robot wearing her pajamas?" Really, it's like wearing all those adolescent style clothes have affected her brain too. Get feisty again!!

Where do I buy stock in the cotton jammies market? No sexy lingerie in this TN, or even shirtless hunks. No, we get fully covered jammies. Too funny. But I did really like that little fantasy of Nata and Jero. So sweet...sad, but sweet.

And the air just came out of Tata's bubble. At least we won't have a marriage/divorce to worry about between those two - but oh man, the Padre will burst a blood vessel. At least Jero's being up front with her, so if she goes along with the arrangement....

Why are they making Alfi have the baby threatened? Or is this suppose to work as a wake-up call for Zeke? Dang.

I hugged my "I heart Laz" shirt last night - but I like that he is being made aware of Dr. ThankHeavensHe'sFinallyCovered. But what a delusional idiot the Doc is- I could use less of his "I want to Kari" speeches. Anyone else think he may just bolt that hospital and show up at the hacienda?

And again, I will say, Matias - SHUT UP! (Are we really suppose to like this guy? Right now, I'm all for Adri with Chema. )

Cheryl: This was one of your best recaps - ever.

You write so beautifully:
"truly happy in the reverie of this one true love" and "brings a red rose which magically has a lovely engagement ring inside the bloom" were lovely. Detailed, yet full of flavorful humor: "Have we ever seen Roberta do something so smoothly and competently" and of course: "He whines so thoroughly that Adriana, actually looks sideways in confusion". Daisy, I'm totally with you - I'm for Chema all the way.

I so agree that this was an instance of "intelligent women behaving uncharacteristically dense". Sigh...

I love Laz. I feel even worse as the dreaded doc seems to have found some kind of conscience. Ack. As you noted, "Oh hear those wheels cranking as the carts creep forward". Let's hope the doc's "supposed redemption" is short lived and he will once again revert to the abusive, lying coward that he is, clearing the way for Laz and Kari to be together.

I'm suprised Pepa's reveal has come relatively early. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Diana

Cheryl -- Boy am I with you on the title. -- Mala etapa!

Nonetheless your recap shines as usual. I especially liked " Sot descending the staircase" and your description of Berta talking to the wine bottle as if Rafa had hidden himself inside.
I also chuckled at your amazement with Berta's skill as a at burglar.

Nice theme you developed with all the smart women being replaced by unthinking robots.

I hate the way they are developing this Jero / Tata romance so rapidly.

It was a big shock when Nata accepted Auggie's ring --but it seemed an impulsive reaction to her anger at Jero. She seems to have a lot of reservations about it -- until lately when she seems to feel that she's unfair to Auggie and that he deserves her full comitment -YUK!

But Jero's leaping straight into "Come live with me" mode feels even more abrupt and too fast than Nata's unwise engagement.

Oh how I hate the Dr. Nesme development. He wants his Cari back?!? Double Yuck!

Güera

Cheryl- Your title had me chuckling right out of the gate. Mala etapa indeed. Everytime they showed happy Kari and Laz I could hear those anvils clanking up above. How cruel of the writers to prolong this torture for the audience. At least Mati and Carlos are still on track. (fingers crossed)

Fina's plan is taking shape nicely. Can't wait to see how it unravels this week.

Berta's memories of Rafa are a bit of revisionist history. She didn't appreciate Rafa when he was alive, and she would have never been happy at La Bonita. She would have made his life miserable. But it is true that he was a dear man, and likely the only man who ever truly loved her.

I liked Nata's suit in the final scenes. Finally! Someone mentions that Nata and Gina kind of look alike. And it's a stranger, Luciana the bank manager. I think the first time Gonzo met Gina he said she reminded him of someone...especially the eyes. But since then he has never made the connection to Nata.

I too hope that Alfie's pregnancy troubles only serve to unite her and Zeke further, and that the baby will be safe. We already lost one baby to miscarriage in this tn. They can't give us another.

My thoughts exactly, Vivi. When I saw Alfie clutching her belly I just groaned "Oh no not again."

So how is Auggie planning to start his wonderful new crop from this one sickly (though Zeke just told him that the plant has recovered) sarmiento. And where is this other vineyard where he planted it? It seems a bit premature for him to already be planning a fire to burn out Jero.

Oh, too bad I missed that Rick Bayless episode! I'll have to look for it on DVD.

Thanks for the fun recap. Yep, I couldn't believe that Jero went from "I'm still completely in love with Renata" to "come live with me". In what, 2 episodes? Makes no sense.

Audrey

Dear Cheryl, agree with Diana that this has to be one of your best (they are all so good, though!!) recaps ever.

The whole Laz, Kari, Dr. Death triangle really had me upset last night. So...Nesme actually REMEMBERS (!!!!) what he was thinking in that coma and this has transformed him?! REALLY?! I wonder what our Dr. Carlos thinks of this!

Kari is going to withdraw on all counts (physically and emotionally) and I just don't want to see it.

daisynjay: ITA! I was hugging my Laz tee shirt last night as well.

The only good thing Jero did last night was tell Laz the truth.

As for his 'proposal' to Tatariffic, as far as I'm concerned he can squeeze his fave tatas in HER house. Why does she have to go to La Bonita...ESPECIALLY since there is no marriage proposal in sight!?

Cheryl, you are right. I HAD to go look at that foto of the shirtless Colunga that Dr. Carlos posted. It helped a great deal. :)) Thanks so much, amiga for all of your hard work on this TN!!

Susanita

"he can squeeze his fave tatas in HER house. Why does she have to go to La Bonita"

Marina lives with her priest uncle. There aint going to be no squeezing at her house. :)

Good morning Cheryl. What a wonderfully poetic and descriptive recap you bestowed upon us! Diana was right, one of your best ever. The colorful phrases just kept flowing.

I couldn't even comment last night because, like Susanita, I was very UPSET at many things, not the least of which was our strong women acting like dopey robots, (a perfect description by the way). All except our cat burglar Roberta who, as described, is impressive when she puts her mind to a job.

More than anything, even more than Nata and Jero right now, I want Laz and Kari to hook up. They have been sadly mooning over one another for years and now it is their turn, darn it! I do agree that Dr. Nesme will try to escape to torment Kari; hopefully that will be the death of him.

I was amazed and impressed that Jero told Laz the truth. Now what will they do with it?

Vivi, yes indeed Roberta did indulge in a bit of revisionist history as regards Rafa. She was originally quite petulant as I recall, but she knows so much more now than she did before and she is nearly friendless (only mami loves her) so I'm sure his adoration is much more valuable in retrospect.

Oh, and it looked like Roberta carried something INTO Renata's room as well as pilfering her brush and toothbrush. I might have to re-watch that scene.

I am kicking myself for missing the Bayless episode. I have been waiting to see it but obviously overlooked it during my busy weekend. Maybe there will be a repeat.

Way to call 'em like you see 'em, Cheryl. Last night was disappointing but your recap more than makes up for it!

My favorite line: "Did I miss some procedure on HER head?" Seriously. What happened to that well-adjusted woman who understood that Jero needed time to get over his break up with Nata? In a week Maritata suddenly wants to get married?! Qué the heck? I hate it when characters start behaving erratically just because the plot says so.

I share everyone's worry about Alfi's pregnancy. One miscarriage ought to have hit the telenovela quota already. We'll have to keep out fingers crossed that the TN Gods haven't decided to become over-achievers.

Berta is a master thief, isn't she? I think she missed her calling. But wasn't it mentioned last week that they have security cameras around the house? Hopefully someone will think to pull the tape and end up incriminating two birds with one stone. ;)

I never noticed the wallpaper thing but now I'm going to have to look for it. I love little details like that.

Doc just needs to take a dirt nap and be done with it. The last thing we want to see is a reformed Doc.

Amy

Forgot to add that I was really sorry to have missed my fave Chef, Mr. Bayless!!! I'm going to have to dig up the schedule and see when it will be replayed.

Love, love that man and his cooking!

Susanita

There is NO way Doc Death is reformed. He's just as determined as ever to control Kari. If he were truly reformed, he would willingly give Kari a divorce or annulment so that she could move on with her life, and that would be the end of it.

I am actually more suprised that Marina is willing to move to La Bonita to become a confort woman for Jero, instead of insisting on a more formal commitment like marriage. And surely this means Jero will be having sex with her! As it is right now, with her chaste living situation, they haven't gone there. But I assume he's not planning on moving her into the guest bedroom like he did to Nata. Once again, I am skeeved out by the thought of this when I think of the eventual reconciliation between Jero and Nata, and her eventually returning to La Bonita and THEIR bed.

Cheryl, thank you so much! Missed the last 15 minutes but will watch my recording. I just done plum run out of words to describe how wonderful your reappin' is! Here's my fave: "Cari goes shopping for a wedding dress in ignorant bliss of the cauldron of dead white fish that is headed her way."

What in the heck is DocTaTa's status going to be in Hero's Household? Well, it seems Matilde won't give her a hard time cause she seems to be enchanted by Tatalicious, MD. And poor Cari and Laz. . .please novela gods, don't let Laz turn cold and unexplicably rejecting of Cari. I don't know what he's going to do cause he's too decent to pose as a custodian in the prison hoozegow and off Dr. Overdueforcrossingover. And Regina: let someone follow this poor, confused babe in the woods! Gonzo, somebody! I think Regina and Renata are sharing an attack of dough-brain syndrome! We know they will reunite despite themselves but we must all be racheted up to a fever pitch first!! Slammin' cap, Cheryl, thanks!

Lila

Good morning all, I was up late then HAD to watch Alborada at 7:00AM then slept some more, perhaps to dream of Fernando. ahhhh. OH, oh, but this is CME's page!

LOL, Vivi your comment about no squeezing at the Padre's quarters, that is right a million times. I am just surprised at all the lack of continuity in characterizations. My one wee hope is that Cari might change and that would mean she will just flip the bird to NastyNesme and go right back to Lazaro. We will need group therapy if she spns down the abyss

My hope is that Alfonsina will have to advise Jero from home while on complete bed rest and our wavering Zeke will come out of the darkside shadows to help La Bonita stave off Augie's impending attack. Sheesh, no sick babies, no miscarriages no, no no way.

Those security cameras don't seem to be trained on the houses inside the compound -- only on who approaches at the gates. That's why no one saw Fina enter the house and bludgeon Cons.

I have a feeling that the sobered up Nesme may really be reformed. So in the end he may do something noble and give up Cari because he sees that her happiness lies with Lazaro. If the priest would only be on his toes they could get Cari an annulment since the doc lied about being sterile. -- just a possibility. Right now he still sceeves me out so much I can't think of him as anything but scum.

I too am grossed out by the possibility of Jero & Tatas doing the deed in Nata's bed at La Bonita. So far both Jero & Nata have stayed away from sex with the surrogate partners. Can this last? I hope so.

Güera

"Doc just needs to take a dirt nap and be done with it. The last thing we want to see is a reformed Doc." DIRT NAP! HAAHHAHH HAHHAHAHA - phew! Good one, Amy!

Lila

I forgot to mention that I loved the dirt nap image too! Thanks Amy for that colorful bit.

Regarding Maritata getting to usurp Renata's place in the master suite at La Bonita. Did Cari ever repair the beautifully embroidered sheets that Jero trashed? Maybe he will have an eye-opening moment when he sees tatas on Renata's gift sheets? Now I am remembering htat as a really ugly moment he put us through. But, I don't hate it enough to want Renata to do gratitude sex with Augie of the juttingJaw. Jero is probably going to slip between some sheets with MTata.

I meant to say earlier that I think Jero is being a bit of a cad to suggest Doc Tatalicious move in with him. OK I get he is not ready for marriage. I agree with that. However he is not being very fair to her either. Looks like it is still all about him under the auspices of him "being honest and up front". Bah!

I think Jero and Padre should negotiate with Doc DirtNap that he agree to an annulment pronto in exchange for protecting him from Augie. These people aren't thinking as usual. I just don't think Nesme has turned over a new leaf. He will backslide because that is his pattern.

Cheryl, I agree with your hope that Kari might have gone so far down the happiness path that she won't want to turn back. She's had a taste of bliss and who wants to give that up?

Cheryl, I missed your last comment while I was posting. I think it would have more impact if Doc Tata herself happens to see the beautiful embroidered sheets. She is more sensitive to that sort of thing than Jero.

I am hoping that Nata won't do the deed with Augi and I kind of doubt she will. She still recoils from his touch. Now Jero, he is another story. He seems to have a goal in mind and that is to make Doc Delicious convenient for himself.

Very funny recap, especially the snark about the brain-dead impostors in our ladies' clothes. Although, Regina has always seemed a total dimwit to me, so I'm not surprised she's being stupid now.

Jero is a terrible listener. When he last saw Renata she was affectionate to him and asked if maybe there was still some hope for them. So he takes that to mean there is absolutely no hope and he has to move on with Dr. Decolletage? He doesn't need Augie; Jero is his own worst enemy.

That's so true Julia. How did he interpret Nata's longing looks, overwhelming gratitude, the hand holding, the cheek kiss near the mouth, the fact that she didn't share with her family that she and Augie were engaged, and the fact that he NEVER saw Nata affectionately holding or kissing Augie (which she HAS seen him do with Marina), to mean that it's all over and ther is no hope? And yes, she even asked him if there was no hope for them, in a longing voice. And now he even knows she didn't ditch him for their date to run off with Augie, but was instead sent by her father and banned from communicating. Now he knows Augie is capable of murder to get what he wants, and one of the things he wants is Nata. Doesn't he think he should be a bit more protective than just telling her Augie isn't what she thinks? All of this should strengthen his resolve to fight for her, or to fight to at least get her away from Augie.

Roberta is just so darned close to figuring out her mother and turnig good. She's been close before too. Just hope she doesn't take too long and completely ruin any relationship she may have with her sister.

I for one cannot wait until Roberta is forced to act like Regina's sweet daughter. Now there is an acting challenge that Fina may not be able to control. You know she will be her usual self-absorbed, petulant bratty worst.Tonight should be fun if we get to see this..

Julia and Vivi, excellent points about our anti-Hero. Maybe it's as simple as little jero is needing some attention, no "if-I-don't-love-her-I-can't-get-it-up" nonsense for Jero!

And Cheryl, that is THE first thing I thought of as the weak link in this Roberta as Gina's daughter b.s. Roberta hates Regina and hates her forma de ser even more: I'm sure she sees her as estupida and cursi! I can't see it lasting 24 hours: this will be fun!

Lila

Hi Cheryl...bleary from a sinus headache...(haven't had one in a decade) so am going to wait to savour your fine recap tomorrow. Thanks though for alerting me about my email being hacked. Dang these people!

Thanks for the wonderfully entertaining recap Cheryl. I agree... one of your best... and of a very difficult episode at that.

"Have we ever seen Roberta do something so smoothly and competently? She’s a born cat burglar..."

I was torn between cheering Roberta on and hoping that she would be discovered.

After her fetal weeping scene, I'm thinking that she'll ultimately turn away from the darkside. The complete rejection by her entire family left teaming up with her mom her only viable option for now. My heart went out to her last night.

Jerry continues reinforcing my dislike for him. Why does he tell Lazaro the truth about Alvaro and not Kari? The man is an insensitive, thoughtless idiot.

"...please novela gods, don't let Laz turn cold and unexplicably rejecting of Cari."

Lila, I'm afraid that you have accurately predicted the future of the sweetest couple on the show.

I did have to laugh at the padre with his bungling attempt to postpone their wedding.

I'm guessing that things won't be fun for quite some time.

Carlos

I wonder if the mismatch between Roberta and Regina isn't a part of Pepa/Fina's plan. She'll give Regina her (fake) daughter back -- but the daughter will reject her and only want her inheritance. Giving Regina her dearest wish will be just another stab in the heart.

Yah, Carlos, I'm afraid you're right. I think you're also on the redeem Berta team too? I agree with Kelly that Roberta is very close to figuring out her mom's involvement in Rafa's death. Fina is just sooooo monstrous, even Roberta who has had the closest glimpse of her evil just can't believe how depraved she is! They spent quite a lot of time though on Berta's recalling the only real love she was ever shown in her life. Seems far-fetched but could even faking being Regina's daughter show her there's a way to live other than being a bitch and thus be the beginning of her turning? We'll all have to stay tuned!

Lila

Lila, you area true optimistg, but even after all her wailing, Berta still headed to Nata's room for her cat burglar antics. As already noted, she convienently rewrites history to make herself the main player and everyone else not understand her. I'm still not holding out to much hope for her.

By the way, did see the new Rick Bayless "Mexico" episode. So good! We get it at 1:00EST om Sundays here in NE Ohio, but we don't get a repeat of the episode until the full season runs. PBS website has the episode descriptions and recipes. (That lamb had my mouth watering - and I'm planning to attempt the garden greens tacos this weekend.)

Gah! I'm so bummed I missed that episode. Oh well, I have tivo cued up now so I suppose I will get to see it eventually. Until then I will just have to satisfy myself with all his other yummy episodes.

Thanks for your great recap Cheryl. Unfortunately I believed your title captured to tone of things for a while ... mala etapa :(

Cheryl--thank you for another Nesmeism..."…caldron of dead white…oh wait a minute, those fish are thrashing around"...and a superb recap.

At risk repetition by not finishing reading the comments before 7:00 pm here goes my new Pet Jero Peeve. If he's trying to fit into a traditional society where Kari didn't want to marry Laz while still in luto and where the Padre frowns on kissing someone who is still married by the church--WHAT IS HE THINKING, asking Tatagrande to move into La Bonita without benefit of marriage. Doesn't jive.

NOK: I like your line of thinking!

Me too. I am far from being a traditionalist but what that boy is suggesting just ain't right. Canalla!
