El Mundo de Telemundo, Week of September 5, 2011: Discuss Amongst Yourselves
Gonzalo is frantic.
He is furious at Adolfo for kidnapping Renato. In spite of Gonzalo's objections, Rebeca has called the police to look into Renato’s disappearance. She openly challenges Gonzalo’s decisions and behavior. It seems...
...como si hubieras querido que Renato Conde no apareciera.
(...as if you didn’t want Renato Conde to be found.)
And further...
... como si estuvieras poniendo trabas en la búsqueda.
(... as if you were putting obstacles in the way of the search.)
[Does Rebeca have an inkling of the dark truth? Maybe not. She’s probably thinking Gonzalo is helping Renato find a safe place to hide just as she did.]
Meanwhile, Renato’s attempt at escape has been thwarted and he is chloroformed into unconsciousness, bound and gagged.
Gonzalo phones his brother and tells him exactly what to do next. We don’t hear what he says on the phone but we do see Adolfo dragging Renato away. Then we hear Adolfo taunting his father, Igor, saying that Renato got what he deserved. It doesn’t look good for don Renato.
A gentleman (maybe) caller:
Omar shows up at the Casa Conde looking for Carola. Ignacia hustles him off to her studio to try to pump him for information about Carola’s life outside the house. Omar is spooked when he sees a photo of Ignacia and Gonzalo (that’s my husband, Ignacia tells him) and remembers Carola showing him a phone photo of that same lumpen face and announcing that Gonzalo was her true love. Omar gets out of there fast all the while muttering to himself: She’s in love with her own brother-in-law!
Carola and Ignacia are more easily manipulated than Rebeca. Even so, when Ignacia shows up with another breathless update – Iñaki called her cell phone and threatened her -- Gonzalo realizes his little brother has made a fatal blunder, one that will bring the authorities right to their hideout.
Gonzalo bursts into the Conde home all the while reaming out Adolfo on the phone just as Marisol is on her way down the stairs and out the door.
This is an interesting moment: the crossing of two apparently unrelated malignant beings both too focused on their own dark plans to notice anyone else.
So what has Marisol been up to? (And hats off to Hombre – she sure seems to be Ricardo Merino’s sister!) She has handed the poisoned candy to Pilar:
Pilar’s social smile fades and her eyes narrow when Marisol’s generic compliment about her beautiful house segues into an off-balance rant about how some people cause others to lose everything and yet go unpunished. The open box of chocolates sits on the coffee table, untouched.
Marisol returns to the Conde house and engineers things so she is discovered in Emilio’s arms. Maybe she was hoping for Hilda, but it is Eva who walks in on them. Eva sends Marisol away by giving her the rest of the day off (I suspect there will be a little something extra in her next paycheck) and then gives vent to her great joy! Finally – we can get rid of Hilda!
Later we see Marisol dusting the piano in a house where all the furniture is covered with drapecloths. Her brother’s house. The neighbor lady stops by and is happy to hear that Marisol is planning to live there. Her brother, says the neighbor, is watching desde arriba (from above) and is surely happy too. Marisol answers:
¿Desde arriba? Ricardo no está muerto. Ricardo está tan vivo como tú o yo.
Oh ho!
Let’s follow the poisoned chocolate:
Javier comes home in a foul mood just having learned that Renato’s death was faked. Like Gonzalo, he assumes the trick was aimed at him personally. He roars at Pilar when she tries to suggest otherwise. He sits in front of the candy but ignores it and follows Pilar upstairs.
Diego also ignores the candy – he doesn’t like chocolate.
Once again, Hombre nailed it: it is Karen who can’t resist stuffing a couple of pieces in her mouth before going off to do the marketing. She comes home feeling weak -- but not too weak to stuff another piece in her mouth. The next thing we know, she is in the kitchen with a very bad bellyache. Andrea is hungry and completely unsympathetic. Have some chocolate! I shout at my television.
Karen is in her bedroom, pale and sweaty and doubled up with cramps.
Hilda and Yolanda get to play detective:
Hilda is emptying the garbage under the sink when she notices the baggie that Marisol left there earlier. A dark vial and a syringe. Is Marisol sick? Is she exposing them all to some illness? Yolanda will find out.
Yolanda takes the vial to a pharmacist friend. It’s not a medicine, he tells her. He’ll send it out to a lab. By tomorrow, they will know what it is.
How upset is Emilio by his marital woes?
Not very. He is sulking on his bed but immediately perks up at the news that Iñaki called Ignacia. They can track down the call from the cellphone itself and therefore the caller.
The same thought occurs to Gonzalo who by now he is nearly foaming at the mouth. Over Carola and Ignacia’s objections, he snatches the phone. But Emilio tells the girls not to worry – he can get all the info on incoming calls online.
The police have arrived at the Conde house. Thank goodness Gonzalo is there to take charge of things!
The last goodbye (of the evening):
Displaying his best Lt. Columbo technique, Gonzalo uses a handkerchief to retrieve his gun (now bearing only Carola’s fingerprints). He makes his way to the hideout. He and Adolfo argue. Gonzalo reproaches his brother for all his mistakes while Adolfo whines that he gets no respect, that Gonzalo thinks he’s so superior... Well he’s not!
While Adolfo is whining, Gonzalo is stealthily pulling out and donning a black glove.
We all have a limit! screams Adolfo.
And Gonzalo replies: You’re right. We all have a limit. And I’ve reached mine.
Gonzalo aims and coolly squeezes the trigger. Adolfo takes a hit in the belly. He falls to the floor.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Who, as of Friday, September 2, is the most loathsome character on this show?
1. Iñaki, alpha psycho. We saw him kill one of the few sympathetic characters, Matías. Last night we saw him shoot down his little brother, Ismael... well ok. maybe that one was a public service. But he also killed the only ‘good’ Mora brother, Ivan. He probably ordered Renato Conde’s execution, although we don’t know for sure what has happened to Renato. Everything Iñaki says is a lie. Everything.
2. Ismael, beta psycho. See above. Operates like a slick sociopath when he’s on his own but dissolves into a petulant pre-adolescent when his big brother is around. May already be dead.
3. Javier, bully, narcissist and thief. Murders the dreams and spirits and breaks the backbone of those around him. May not literally be a murderer though.
4. Marisol, the new kid on the psycho block. Marisol’s intended victim is Pilar but she seems unconcerned about collateral damage. Too bad Javier isn’t a chocoholic. Karen is the first victim of – if not death, then very very bad bellyache by chocolate.
5. Eva Spencer, domineering, unfaithful, cold. Uber snob. Last night she was glad to find Emilio and Marisol in a clinch. Time for a little “I told you so.” She has never trusted Gonzalo. Is this because it takes one to know one?
6. The despicable Conde Kids. Their indiscriminate lechery makes them easy prey for loathsome characters 1, 2, 3 and 4.
-- Carola is a druggie and a drunk and gets a special kick out of seducing her sister’s men.
-- Emilio is a lazy, whoring voyeur who is too dumb to know you don’t walk away from your gambling debts unscathed.
-- And Ignacia is a drama queen, the diva in the opera playing in her head.
7. Pilar. So hard to watch the bug-eyed, grimacing victim returning over and over to Javier’s smirking abuse. Psychologist, psychotherapeutize thyself! Did she really do something bad to Ricardo Merino?
8. The servidumbre. Nibaldo lurks. Karen is openly dishonest. The two were cheating on Yolanda. Is Yolanda as innocent as she seems? Is it a sin to be a yenta?
9. Hilda’s innocence has been replaced by resentment which, while justifiable, is less than appealing. Rosa Munita Yen didn’t have to work up much of a sweat to get Hilda on her side. Save your soul, your skin and your baby and get out of that house!
10. Mabel Mora. After Igor had his devastating stroke in prison, she abandoned her little boys. Only Gonzalo was old enough at the time to remember her.
---------------------------------------
Here’s my (much shorter) list of the, if not exactly innocent, then most sympathetic characters of the moment:
1. Renato Conde. I still don’t really understand why he staged his own death. He was testing his not-so-trusted advisors. Maybe he wanted to escape from – and punish – the faithless Eva. He seems to have loved his children. I resist the idea that his kids became monsters because of his over-indulgent parenting. I’m not sure if I feel sympathy for the character or just for the actor who plays him.
2. Rebeca. Locked in a vicious and life-long competition with her half-sister Pilar, she shows up disposed to steal the affections of Pilar’s husband and kids; she sticks around long enough to displace Javier as Renato’s trusted advisor. But then she morphs into a sensitive and intelligent soul who cares about her sister and her niece and nephew; cares about Renato Conde and his interests; and loves and subsequently grieves for Matías.
3. Igor Mora. Helpless observer of the evil being done by his sons. Tries to warn the Conde kids about the Mora boys. Tries to help Renato escape.

No te preocupes, NovelaMaven. I can hardly wait to read your La Casa recap, but I haven't seen the episode yet. I spent most of last night watching the Giants finally showing some offense and beating the dread Arizona Diamondbacks at home. On TV, of course! They had a miserable August, but hope springs eternal for a September resurgence. Go Giants!!!
This is my last short recap of this novela. I am enjoying it and will likely continue to watch. But there isn't enough interest in it here. Without anyone else commenting, it's not much fun to write about it.
PART ONE
When Catalina realizes that her bold approach in going after Sacramento isn't working, she backs off and talks about their being allies. Meanwhile, Barba Roja looks on from the shadows.
Rafael demands to know where the gift he brought her is (sexy red underwear - taken by Zahra). Flor doesn't know what happened to the box and is in tears.
Mariano has had Malicia kidnapped in order to threaten her life unless she plants a cuadro in Enrique's room.
Pablo has shown up with the other petroleros at the 4P's Bar and is looking miserable. Zahra takes him aside and confronts him about Amanda. She says Amanda told her that she'd asked him to take her and her sisters away. She says that he's too much of a coward. Since when does a man in love think about money? And she tells him that she's had to pretend to be his lover to protect Amanda, since he's a coward.
When Flor shows up in a different sexy nighty, Rafa gets in her face about it and she starts to cry. She finally says No puedo. She thought she could go through with this, but she can't. She wants to be in love when she makes love. He tells her he's never been rejected sexually by a woman before, and how come a prostitute expects love. She says she wasn't a prostitute when she gave herself.
Rafa goes to talk with Zahra and tells her he's suspicious of Flor's behavior. It was normal for a virgin to take time to become used to sex. But mentioning wanting love to go with sex indicates another man to him. He wonders if it's Sacto. She tells him Sacto is completely disgusted with Flor and wouldn't go near her.
In a scene that doesn't seem to fit the plot, Pablo beats up some guy who was beating on a woman who looked like a lady of the evening, judging by her clothing.
PART TWO
Mariano has someone open the door to La Trepadora's casita and tells the guy to go to Zahra and tell her to send La Trepadora; there's a special client waiting.
Meanwhile La Trepadora (Rocío) has been with Amanda's sisters. Beba has a fever, and Rocío goes to her casita for some medicine.
She finds her brother there. He wants her to remove the veil slowly to satisfy his fantasy. She can't get away from him, and he gets the veil off. He jumps back in horror. "Rocío!" She yells at him that yes, she's his sister, and this is her life. She's a prostitute. He slaps her hard. "This is the result of your killing the man I loved." Mariano: "But I wanted a better life for you." Rocío: "Mentira! Es un asqueroso enfermo. Lo mató porque no quiso que yo fuera feliz. I hate you! She tells him she became what she is to punish herself for being too cowardly to die with Emilio and to punish him and dirty his family name. She taunts him with how many men she's had right here where he stands.
He loses it completely and begins to beat her with his belt. Olga arrives and takes her away.
Amanda has come to the church and finds Sacto in a corner praying. He's not so scornful now that he sees her crying. He obviously still loves her. She cries on his shoulder some, but he does leave.
Pablo meets Manuela and she takes him in to meet her parents. Raimundo knows that he betrayed Sacto and tells him to leave.
Mariano's awful secret is revealed, somewhat in the scene with Rocío, and for sure in this one. He has incestuous desires for his sister. He is in a room with Silvia, one of the 4P's and has her wear a veil. He throws her on the bed and seems to be seeing Rocío instead. He tells her she was his everything. She was what he most wanted in the world. He didn't want any man to ever touch her. He wanted her only for himself. In his rage, he strangles poor Silvia.
Sacto goes to tell Zahra he's afraid Amanda may harm herself.
The P's are relaxing by the river. Malicia swims over and finds the corpse of Silvia.
Mariano shows up in a panic at Rafa's hacienda and tells him about the murder. Rafael behaves like a patán. Una prostituta más, una prostituta menos. No van a hacer caso de esto.
Barba Roja proves to be a good guy and tells Cat he saw her with Sacto, but isn't going to tell Rafa. But he warns her to be careful.
Rafael tells Mariano he's going to find someone to blame for Silvia's death. Zahra shows up and tells Rafael he has to help her control Mariano. I think she's only there because he beat Rocío. I could be wrong, but I don't think she yet suspects him of killing Silvia.
In short, this was a very exciting episode. The acting between the actors playing Rocío and Mariano was extraordinary.
Novelamaven; You outdid yourself with the summary of all the loathsome characters. You certainly have earned your "nom de plume." I couldn't agree with you more in your analysis. But maybe you could have put Diego with the good "guys" as he decided to go back home so his (horrible bratty) sister would not be alone, and he does show warmth and comfort to others, especially to his neurotic mother.
I've been thinking how LA CASA is nowhere near as good as ALGUIEN because the characters are so one-dimensional and unlikeable. In ALGUIEN, even the monster serial killer had the ability to love his son and Piedad. Gonzalo hasn't one positive virtue. Even the comparable characters in that were so much more redeemable: Carola in this and the sister-in-law in ALGUIEN, played by the same actress, are both drug and alcohol addicted women who steal their sister's husbands. But when the ALGUIEN was rejected by her sister and can no longer see her niece and nephew, we really felt sorry for her, even though she got what she deserved. Eventually she went back to school and earned her way back in the family. I don't see that with Carola. Ignacia and Tatiana are similar characters, but again you understood and felt sorry for Tatiana, while you couldn't care less about Ignacia. You knew that Tatiana loved her husband and was fighting for her marriage before she found out about his affair with her sister. With Ignacia, you dont believe that she loves Gonzalo, really cares that he slep-t with her sister (other thna on an ego level). You feel that she wants him, or any man, so she wont be alone. Tatiana was a fully-functioning professional woman.
Is it the writing, or the way the actors are directed --to give us very little about their characters which adds to the mystery? Or is it that the actors themselves are not that good. I think David(can't remember his last name) is good in both. Jimena Duque (Carola) much better in ALGUIEN. Miguel Varoni's character is in some ways similar to Rafael Amayo's --both are swarmy, phony nice, and psychoipathic. I think as Javier Varoni is good. Gabriel Porra (?) is awful. He seems to be playing nothing. He was not nice as Gonzalo, and he is not really menacing and terrible as Inaki. And you don't see him going back and forth in a credible way.It is a very generalized performance, much like Pilar's where the actress is does not play anything specific, but just makes faces.
I hope there aren't too many segments left. Does anyone know?
I am thinking that Gonzalo/Inaki might let Renato escape and act as his savior, making it possible for him to be "rewarded." I get the feeling that he cares as much for the money as he does for the revenge. Will Adolfo survive??? I wonder. Why didn't Inaki just shoot him in the head or the heart? It looked to me like he shot him in the side near the abdomen.
By the way, Congrats to Hombre who almost always is on the mark about what's going to happen.
Poor Rocio, I'm glad she stood up to her brother. I thought Rafael was an a**hole, but I think Mariano has got him beat my a mile. Fantasizing/beating his sister, threatening Malicia in helping him get rid of Enrique and killing Silvia.
Couple things that have got me intrigued:
- who did Pablo write a letter to?
- can't wait to meet Raimundo's doctor son, I'm sure he is going to fall in love with one of the girls from the Four P's since it would absolutely devastate his mother.
I'm glad Ana is gone. I hope she stays away.
Also, I don't think Amanda should've showed her hand to Rafael. She's making him suspicous. Also in the previews it looks like she's planning escape attempt #2. They show Rafael entering the house as she's talking about it, so not sure if he heard her plans.
The whole Rafael giving Flor the used lingerie that Zahra wore was just nasty.
Novelera:
Your recaps are always a joy to read. Thank you! I'm sorry I comment only rarely; since I only occasionally watch the show, I don't have much to contribute to the conversation. I do think the actors are quite good. The story is so very dark that, to me, it doesn't quite lend itself to the nightly novela format. I think it would have made a fabulous movie or even a limited run, weekly series. (That's actually how I've been watching -- about once a week.)
Anyway, I understand that even though there are probably plenty of people reading and enjoying your recaps but not commenting on them, this format depends on dialog. The number of Telemundo commenters in general has dwindled. Me, I'm going to see La Casa to the end. After that show ends... well, we'll see.
Thanks for the kind words!
I like the idea of adding Diego to the sympathetic characters although I admit there is something about him that makes me a little uneasy. Maybe that's a carry-over from Alguien...
Speaking of Alguien, the comparison is interesting. I've been assuming that the writers of the present show aren't really trying for fully-realized three-dimensional characters. These are all iceberg people: the surface we see is unremarkable; what lies hidden below the surface is dangerous.
In Alguien, Julián was the dangerously crazy guy hidden among a group of basically normal, if neurotic, people.
In La Casa, even if Gonzalo is king of the crazies, it's hard to find any normal people.
I don't mind a plot-driven show from time to time. But when plot is all you have going for you, you really have to keep things moving if you want to keep the audience. And lately it's been hit and miss. I'm hoping that will change, though. (I often take time off from a novela when it starts to bore me; then I'll come back to it several days or even weeks later. In this case I'm trying to be responsible and actually watch what I am blowing hot air about). :)
Novelera,
I've enjoyed your comments as well. I posted last weekend but it got lost as the new week was brought up about the same time.
It's hard for me to take all of the drama that Zhara brings, especially with her love for Rafael. This guy truly is a putz, doesn't have any real game and didn't even make his own money. The guy is a coward and a joke. Hard to take his "authority" over the town seriously at times. Love how he walks into a room with his hand covering his pistol, haha.
The scene with Pablo giving a beating to the loser was to show Manuela that he's not a bad guy, that he's in fact a decent guy. Hey, timing is everything in novela land ;)
The scene with Mariano and Rocio was so good. These two are really good actors. I was starting to wonder if that was the card they were gonna play with Mariano, yikes!
It's not the greatest novela but it has its moments. Like I said, getting harder and harder to not just laugh at Rafael, I mean this guy on his horse and his pistol and running around town like he owns it all and it wasn't even his money, really a putz this guy. Guess we'll get to see Sacramento give him a good beat down eventually.
The scenes with Amanda and her sisters are getting tiring too, almost feels like they don't have enough stuff to work with on this one as the same things just keep repeating...
That said, I still look forward to Mariano and Rocio :)
NovelaMaven, that was a masterful recap and analysis! Thank you.
It was very funny to me to watch Karen go towards those chocolates after I had thrown out my prediction. Maybe my brain is getting as twisted as the writers'. I've been wrong a lot though. I once thought Nibaldo was the third brother!
I still like this show a lot, despite the fact that all the characters are (very) flawed. Why? Because every night, so much happens! Just look at all the things in Friday's episode: a poisoning, followed by discovery of a suspicious needle, possible murder of the patriarch of the family, shooting and possible murder of one of the key bad guys, all sorts of yelling and suspicions, a new mystery (what happened to Ricardo Merino?), etc. It's just a wild show, even if the characters are so unsympathetic. That's why I said the other day it was like a train wreck, but you can't look away.
Like many novelas, it enforces the idea that no matter how beautiful and rich they are (as are almost all the characters), desires for revenge, power and love can screw up their lives and all those around them. We viewers have much more boring, staid lives, and we're probably not so rich and beautiful. So it's fun to see everything go wrong for these "perfect" people. At least it is for me.
And several of the actors are doing a wonderful job of conveying the wild, constantly changing emotional states their characters are going through, especially Javier, but also Rebeca and Renato. I agree that Pilar and Gonzalo seem stuck in a certain mode, and both Adolfo and Gonzalo seem much more "comic book" than before, but still, I like what each actor has done with the twisted character he or she has been given to play.
Not too many people are commenting on this one, but I love it (mainly for all the beautiful ladies), so here's what I remember from Friday:
Vicki finally figures out that Tiberio must be Lola's father! That's why he doesn't want her touched. Debora bows to her Mom's genius, excited about the possibilities with this new info.
Everyone's getting ready for Chabelita's baptism, which is going to be tomorrow at Lola's house. Adelita has been transferred there to protect her, and their are several cops. No one is to know she's there. Too bad Tiberio has the phones bugged, and finds this out right away. Felix is sent out to kill Adela, not to return to the lair until he's done it.
Andres is suspicious of Angel, he's hurt that Lola didn't call him about the baptism, and he's surprised when Rodrigo tells him to stop searching for Soledad, for Andres' own protection. But we know none of this will stop our headstrong hero.
Adela admits to Lola that she only "likes" Fulgencio, whereas she "loves" Daniel, but Daniel is the past, and she has to be practical. Yeah, right.
The Priest agrees to do the baptism at the house, given the circumstances about Adelita, who is the godmother (Camilo's the godfather). Several cops are there for security, but will they be able to stop Tiberio's big cat Felix, who may have found the purrfect disguise!
I am also enjoying this one, Hombre and have no intention of jumping ship before the end. I haven't commented much because I've been focused on writing recapettes of Flor Salvaje.
I think the writing is good, and they keep adding interesting elements. Ángel is a very interesting new plot development.
I think I mentioned it before, but one thing that seems ridiculous is that Félix, seemingly Tiberio's #2 guy, is always listening to Lola's tapped phone at the moment when something helpful to Tiberio is said. By the way, I loved "Tiberio's Big Cat Félix", Hombre.
I wonder where Débora is going to go with the information that Lola is Tiberio's daughter. It would seem to prohibit any action on her part, but she's too nutty to back off.
Tiberio mentioned some big gift, or surprise, for Chabelita's baptism. How did he even find out about it? Félix was ordered to kill Adelita, but I don't think Tiberio had this particular occasion in mind. If Félix shoots up Chabelita's baptism, I don't think this will sit well with Tiberio.
I really enjoyed your recap of Friday's episode. Great analysis of the characters. I hope Ismael/Adolfo really is dead. I was tired of how bug-eyed crazy he was getting.
I was glad to see Omar walk out of the taller in disgust after figuring out that Carola's Dreamboat is her sister's husband. I wondered why in blue blazes she'd show Omar a cell phone camera picture of him.
I was disappointed Renato didn't get away. After all, he never saw Iñaki/Gonzalo. But I guess his safe return would have put paid to Gonzaki's big plan. And it's too early for that to be over.
Eva, Eva. I thought she was growing fond of her nuera after Emilio's accident. But no, she can't wait to get rid of her. And she doesn't seem to mind if her grandchild goes back to Zacatecas also.
And, thanks, NM for figuring out that it was Ismael/Adolfo who made the call to Ignacia's cell. Makes more sense. I had thought Gonzaki did it himself, not being smart enough to realize there'd be a way to trace it.
Hombre and Novelera: I am also a big fan of this one--though not a frequent commenter, I find it very well written with plenty of plot interest. And Lola's outfits...(Hombre, on "El Clon" there was a character whose dresses were so tight that someone started calling them broccoli band dresses because they fit her like those wide blue rubber bands they use on broccoli bunches in the supermarket. I think Lola is using the same broccoli-band designer!)

ENOCH
(I thought I had registered for this site long ago, I do not understand your id system.
Actually the characters have in many ways developed across the story. I don't know how it compares with what I haven't seen, but I don't recall ever seeing a telenovela with as much char development as this one. I did not see ATM.
Gonzalo started good & turned out bad. Javier started out bad, & turned out a mixture of bad & in a sense dependent on Pilar, a pitiful sad sack. Nibaldo started out an adulterer & seems to have repented.
I don't understand why Karen tries to help Gonzaki, but on the face of it it seems good.
Hilda started out good & turned out capable of great evil (burglary, almost murder). Eva started out evil & briefly took a turn for the good towards Hilda. Emailio started out just irreponsible & ended up a thief & would be adulterer. Rebeca did a complete 180 degree shift from vile villain, adulterer, trying to steal a family away from Pilar to being a supportive sister. Wheel Chair man started out as a victim, an invalid, & turned out to the the villainous Adolfmael.
I wait to see if Pilar does turn out to have done ill to Ricky Ricardo Merino. To me she has never been sympathetic, but pathetic, & disgusting, lying to her own children, slapping her daughter's face for telling the truth about her sins.
This cud be that everyone bad turns out good & vice versa. But at any rate, the characters are not one-dimensional at all, IMHO.
Now when will Valenzuela let Olga into the story?
ENOCH
I guess there is no way to restrict your reading & posting to one particular telenovela here?
In my case LA CASA.
I like this novela much better than ALGUIEN, for it's more interesting characters and twists.
though except IGOR we don't have any "good" character I hate NON of them! The performances of the key characters are very good especially GABRIAL PORRAS did a great job.
What's wrong with security these days? Fulgencia sets up a perimiter around the mansion, in preparation for the baptism. Four guys will watch anyone approaching. Even the priest gets his credentials searched, and when Daniel shows up later, he's stopped, too.
But these cops apparently forgot the read the "check in every 10 minutes" rule. One of the cops is clobbered by Felix, disguised as an electricity workman. No one EVER bothers to call this guy, so no one realizes that Felix is on the grounds.
The baptism is beautiful. Lola's wearing a super short navy dress, very clingy. Adelita looks a bit more appropriate in her flowered dress (also strapless and short). And Sofia still has on that white minidress she's been wearing for the last few weeks, and is still wearing flats, so she won't tower over the guys. Felix can't get a good angle yet, but after the party moves inside, so does he (again, unobserved by the crack security team).
Tiberio has a present sent for Chabelita. It's a huge emerald, from "Abuelo". Since these people know that Tiberio is Lola's Dad, they know it's from him, and think it's some weird show off thing. Lola continues to state that as sick as Tiberio is, he still seems to have affection for her, and maybe even for Soledad.
Angel has a long talk with Debora, where he tells how he was rescued from poverty by Tiberio, and sent to the finest schools. He also thinks he's Tiberio's sole heir. Maybe not, says Debora. Did you know that he has a daughter, and that daughter is Lola Volcan?! Angel is impactado.
Daniel picks this day to escape from the clinic, in his pajamas. He has no problem doing this, hitches a ride back to town, shows up at Andres' house, changes clothes, and crashes the baptism.
By this time Felix is inside and has tied up Rosa Francia. He comes out with his gun, just as Daniel is arguing with Andres, Lola and Adelita. We could almost see it coming when Felix pulls the trigger. Daniel jumps in, and I think HE's the one who was shot!!
Welcome, new commenters.
Guess what? I think EVERYONE we thought would be dead is alive! First we have Karen. She collapses while trying to serve dinner, and Javier hopes she's not pregnant. They quickly figure out she ate those chocolates. She's rushed to the hospital, her stomach is pumped, and she's okay. Meanwhile, the pharmacist tells Yolanda and Hilda that the little vial and needle contained arsenic, and they should go to the police immediately! I hope they do, and put an end to the shenanigans of that sneaky Marisol.
As for Renato, a drunk stumbles over him in an alley. He's not dead, and later, he takes the police back to where he was being held. Igor Mora isn't there anymore. Don't worry says the cop, we already found him, and he's safe. What about the body? asks Gonzalo. Body? We didn't find any body. Gonzalo turns white as it appears that Adolfo/Leonardo/Ismael is not dead! Remember how tough he was when Carola stabbed him with that knife? We don't know this for sure, but if the body wasn't there, Gonzaki had better beware!
We finally find out who Omar is. He's a drug and alcohol counselor who is actually trying to help Carola. Arnoldo is not his gay lover, not his brother, he's a recovering addict Omar is helping. Do we think Carola will actually let Omar help her? Nah!
Carola flat out tells Ignacia that she and Gonzalo are lovers, prompting an exciting catfight. Eva arrives just to late to find what it was about. Carola starts to have doubts about Gonzalo when he tells her there's NOTHING between them (of course the press were right there).
My favorite moment? Javier is livid that Renato is alive. After all, Javier is the BEST person to administer Renato's estate. But honey, says Pilar, if he's dead, there wouldn't be any estate, right? Why don't you ever take my side? roars Javier. It's much better for me if he's dead! He then smiles, indicating it COULD STILL HAPPEN!!!
Sorry for the typos. I meant, if he's NOT dead, there wouldn't be any estate.
I also had a few other typos. You all may find it hard to believe, but I actually know how to spell. Unfortunately, I don't seem to have learned how to proofread.
One place that the tv works properly is when Lola is wearing those short short dresses. I thought for sure the Priest was going to tell her change or ask why she was only wearing a shirt/top!!!! LOL
CASA
The face GonzoIn made when he asked about the body - PRICELESS.
Thank you, Hombre. Nicely done.
As for typos, what can we do? Read 'em and wince! That's what I've learned to do:)
The writers have given us an early Christmas present -- the sentimental favorites, Igor and Renato, live to fight another day. Unfortunately it appears that crazy Adolfo does too. Hombre, I also enjoyed Javier's disappointment when he hears that Renato is alive. And Gonzalo's oopsie in front of the police (WHAT body?) was great.
Is Gonzalo surprised that Renato is alive? Did he tell Adolfo to kill him or just get him out of their hair? By the way, did you notice the look that passed between Renato and Gonzalo? Pure icy hatred on G's part and narrow-eyed suspicion on R's part.
Pilar appears to realize that the chocolates made Karen sick; and she seems to get it that Marisol is up to no good. So if Pilar says nothing even though her silence is potentially harmful to Karen (she can't know that Karen is going to be ok), she definitely has something to hide.
Re Omar: I don't know about an AA specialist who hangs out in bars and stalks the people he wants to help... Sounds a little fishy to me...
Thanks, Hombre, you got it all and in a very entertaining way!
Débora has certainly put the cat among the pigeons, hasn't she? Ángel's persona is a bit more calculating when he's not around Lola, gushing over her. I still can't tell if he means it; i.e., he's really attracted to her, or is just trying to get her to be eating out of his hand to follow Tiberio's orders. But finding out he won't get all of Tiberio's loot when he croaks is a game changer.
I also thought from the camera angle that it was Daniel who got shot, rather than Adelita. Someone on Telemundo World predicted that Daniel might save Adela some day. Maybe that's what happened. He sure was disgusting before that, though, telling Fulgencio that HE had her first.
They sure faked us out, didn't they? They showed a grey looking Renato in an alley, and I was about 75% convinced he was a goner.
For a telenovela, they figured it out about the chocolates at warp speed. I loved it when Javier almost took one. I was going: "Please, please, eat a handful!" But no, he patted his midriff instead and used will power. Speaking for myself, I'd have been in the next bed to Karen. I salivate at even the thought of chocolates.
I thought it was odd that that shot in the lower chest would have killed Adolfo. And he only shot him once? Gonzaki is in big trouble, and it couldn't happen to a nicer guy. I think Porras has been doing a great job showing how panicky he's getting around the Condes and Rebeca.
This was one dark episode!
Cat showed her claws again, riding after Zahra and telling her she was pathetic for still loving Rafael. This was the thanks Zahra got for trying to get justice for poor, murdered Silvia.
Enrique looks like he may be ready to report that Mariano was the last person to see Silvia, but I have a feeling Mariano's plot to have Malicia plant something in his room is going to cause him to back off.
And, with the help of his cold blooded wife, Lourdes, Mariano got Rocío committed to an insane asylum where some bribed guards drugged her when she screamed that she wasn't crazy. Why, oh why did she go with him? Amanda was ready to stop him from taking her.
I suppose Amanda is going to believe that Zahra and Pablo are lovers now.
Last night's episode was really chock full of action.
Funny although I also thought Adolfo was shot in the side, I had a completely (and wrong) interpretation of what happened. Remember that Gonzalo used a woman's voice to call the police and say that there had been a shooting nearby. Somehow I thought the police had come and found Adolfo alive and brought him to a hospital --or if not to a morgue, and when Gonzalo said something about the 'dead man" the policeman said there was no dead man, and looked suspiciously at Gonzalo. I thought that it was Gonzalo was took Renato out and left him on the street to protect their hideaway. But then how did Adolfo get out.
interesting comments about the characters. The reason I find them one-dimensional, for the most part, is because they turn on a dime with no real reasons. We don't see why they change, just that they do. rebecca goes from being a slutty, sexy woman who sleeps with her sister's husband and takes his job away into this good and virtuous woman. How come???
But they do, for the most part, keep our interest.
I agree that Gabriel Porras
is really doing a good job in this stage of the story, having a problem holding it all together.
Nice to have some new people commenting and adding a new perspective.
I was really hoping Ángel (with a name like that) would be one of the good guys. remains to be seen, I guess.
Renato returns home and falls into the embrace of his eldest daughter, Ignacia But You Can Call Me Electra Conde, an embrace which lasts several beats too long. The others all stand and watch fondly (Yolanda and Nibaldo), with growing impatience (Eva) and or with some hostility (Carola) or – forgive me – blindly (Emilio).
Everyone, especially Gonzalo, is on edge knowing that Adolfo is at large.
Gonzalo summons Mabel to his office and reveals he is her first-born, Iñaki. He tries to get her sympathy, telling her his brother Ismael killed Ivan and now he’s after him. He begs her not to reveal his true identity to anyone. She is worse than hostile to him: she is completely indifferent – she doesn’t want to remember she ever had children.
Ignacia accosts Hilda even more aggressively than before, demanding Hilda’s unborn baby. Hilda is so spooked she tells Yolanda she has decided to go back to Mexico.
Javier is horrible to Pilar and makes veiled threats against Renato for his terrible offense of ... well, being alive.
Marisol has the chutzpah to return to the Conde house for another session with Emilio. When Yolanda confronts her about the arsenic vial in the trash, Marisol runs off.
Yolanda goes to the Ruiz house and tells Pilar about the arsenic. Pilar connects the dots – arsenic --> Marisol’s gift --> Karen’s illness. Does she call the police? Of course not. It would be against the telenovela Rule of Irrational Response. She follows the would-be murderer all the way to Ricardo Merino’s seemingly deserted house where she confronts her. Marisol reveals that Ricardo is her brother and she blames Pilar for destroying his life. Oh no -- Pilar is in danger! Marisol wields a lamp threateningly... But the blow, when it comes, is from behind. Thwap! Pilar falls to the floor. We glimpse black pants and shoes...
Rebeca spends the day trying to put out fires for the Conde family and trying to figure out why Gonzalo seems so peculiarly hostile and evasive. Then she returns to Gonzalo’s apartment and finds it trashed. Most upsetting of all: The painting of Matías is slashed. She falls to her knees and weeps.
Ignacia and Emilio find a local address for Iñaki Mora and Ig decides to check it out. By herself, of course. (Well, I guess it’s better than asking for Gonzo’s help.)
Carola has an angry confrontation with Gonzalo in his office. He rejects her brutally. She ends up in a bar where the mysterious Omar materializes and tries to keep her from drinking. Finally she gets home to find the police waiting for her. They have identified her fingerprints on the gun which was presumably used to shoot Ismael Mora (still at large). Is Renato really going to ask Gonzalo to represent her???
I've been absent--but reading and watching--for quite a while. Regarding Karen and the arsenic-laced chocolate, I just have to post this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNHoFGYRDbw. Karen's chocolate scenes reminded me of this song; and the singer's surname gave me a newfound smirk.
As much as one of my relatives may be right in assuming that the end of Casa is near, I just don't want it to be :-(
Todo lo mejor,
NJ, I agree with u about Rebeca's sudden & unreasonable change.
episode 70:
-----------
what would happen if Carola tells the police about Gonzalo's pistol? it's too risky for him! Though the police is merely decorative in telenovelas.
it was surprising to see Gonzalo introduced himself to Mabel so quickly. I wonder what he intends to do. apparently he doesn't hate her at all.
the other surprise was to see such a brave Pilar!
Erin:
Aha! So Ninel is the third Conde sister! And Bonbon Asesino -- it all fits... jajaja
Good to see you here again!
Alex:
"what would happen if Carola tells the police about Gonzalo's pistol? it's too risky for him! Though the police is merely decorative in telenovelas."
Will the police believe Carola? She already has a record -- remember how she shot up the nursing home when she was after Adolfo/Ismael? If Gonzolo pulls off his cool, responsible lawyer act and Carola lets her crazy rage show...
Besides, as you so cleverly put it, the police ARE merely decorative in telenovelas.
Now if Carola only had a lawyer who would really look out for her interests...
Great comments, everyone. As for how long the show is, they always have final weeks, then final chapters. I've never seen this last less than 5 weeks, sometimes 7. So there's a lot to go.
I agree that Renato will probably hire Gonzalo to defend Carola, and he could tell her not to mention that the gun was his, trust him, he's a famous attorney, blah blah.
I still can't figure out what bad thing Pilar did to Ricardo Merino (besides rejecting him, after all, she was married). Marisol said he still loved Pilar. Well, then why hit her over the head (I assume that was Ricardo doing the hitting). I guess we'll find out tonight.
I got a kick out of Gonzalo having a waking dream of a bloody Ismael coming for him. Usually it's just the women having these dreams.
Yes, it was Daniel who got shot be Felix, who was trying for Adelita. Fortunately, it was just superficial, and he's going to be fine. Adelita is very grateful, and she forgives him for how badly he treated her. However, what they have is OVER, because she's agreed to marry Fulgencio Lopez (and she got a pretty ring).
Debora wants to get Angel on her side. She correctly predicts that once he verifies that Lola is Tiberio's son (which he does - Felix says they even did DNA testing), Angel's ambition will cause him to join Debora against Lola.
Bobby give Ramon an ultimatum: Get me out of jail, or I'll talk. When Tiberio hears of this, he says kill the stool pidgeon.
But Felix won't be able to do that particular job, as he failed in his mission to kill Adela, and also interrupted Lola's baptism. Tiberio gets out the trusty sword, but has chest pains just before he can carry out the sentence on Felix (why did Felix even come back, or why didn't he shoot Tiberio? His sense of loyalty seems weird for such a scumbag).
So instead of being killed, Felix is banished, and holes up with Angel.
The cops have identified him, although they don't know where he is.
Andres is trying to prove that Angel is a bad guy.
Lola's dress today was scarlet and purple, strapless, short and clingy as usual.
NovelaMaven: LOVED "Ignacia But You Can Call me Electra Conde". It's not every blog that can boast Greek tragedy quotes!
Do we think the light bulb is going to come on over Carola's head that the ONLY gun she's touched recently was in Gonzaki's night stand?
I can't figure out Marisol's revenge desire against Pilar either. If we believe Pilar, RM had a raging case of erotomania about her and was stalking her relentlessly. Unless Javier did something bad to Ricardo, I don't see why Marisol would feel that way. Of course, she isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. Who delivers the poisoned chocolates themselves? I predict we're going to see Pilar a captive of the screwed up former patient for a while.
Javier has been so predictable. Once he gets the woman back he wanted so desperately, he starts treating her like crap immediately. But he's going to come unglued when she doesn't come back. He won't think she's being held captive. He'll probably go after Gonzaki.
I suspect that Mabel wasn't exactly Mother of the Year even before she took off in her husband's moment of greatest need. She probably did a number on Iñaki in his early childhood.
Wow, action packed episode last night. Sacramento almost beat up Rafa in a planned boxing match at the 4 P's until Amanda distracted him by yelling his name.
The petroleros are going on strike because Rafa fired a poor guy coming down with malaria. Rafa and Mariano plan to hire replacement workers and man the oil field with cops. But Enrique and a camera person have shown up to record whatever they're planning. The gringo, representing the oil company, is NOT in favor of Rafa's cruel dismissal. He tells him it's illegal in English.
Zahra has bribed her way in to see Rocío and promises to get her out of the padded cell. I was wondering why they'd need to have her in a strait jacket when she's already in a padded cell. Overkill.
Thanks, Hombre, for your comment today. I HAVE noticed your fixation on Lola's clothing!!
Ángel is still a somewhat ambivalent character, but I think he's leaning more toward marrying Lola than harming her. He seemed to me to see right through Débora's jealousy of Lola. When she tried to say there was nothing between her husband and Lola, he reminded her of Chabelita, a very big connection. And he hasn't bought her chummy behavior one bit.
He sort of jokingly proposed to Lola last night. But I think his plan is to get Lola to fall for him, marry her, and keep Tiberio's money in the family.
I was quite shocked that Tiberio suggested marrying Soledad. She should have accepted with a big smile, played him like a violin, and gotten out of imprisonment. This is one plot point that bothers me. If Tiberio supposedly had been in love with Soledad all along, why would he have turned her out as a prostitute?
Hombre
Thanks for recap and keeping us aware of Lola's attire.
Was just wondering where did Adelita's needle marks go? Wasn't she being injected for quite sometime?
Casa
Doesn't Gonzalo look and act as if he has gone mad? How come noone has noticed this?
Part 1 of 2
Tonight the bad guys are reptilian in green, more leprous than leprechaun: Gonzalo sports a bright green shirt and dark green suit (at least on my tv) and Javier a bilious green tie.
And yes, folks -- Gonzalo is Carola’s lawyer. He does what he can to look like he’s helping, all the while hanging her out to dry.
Omar makes a brief appearance, first at the Conde house and later, in the police station; not realizing he’s her lawyer, warns Gonzo to leave Carola alone.
Javier knows how to exploit Rebeca’s vulnerability. They argue, she weeps, they tear each other’s clothes off. After their intense coupling, he hops out of bed and phones Pilar.
The sound of the phone rouses Pilar, still sprawled on the floor at Merino’s house. She answers...
... And Javier comes to the rescue -- with Rebeca right behind him. He immediately starts attacking Pilar for coming out there alone. (He’s right but he’s still a jerk.) Pilar is alert enough to wonder how these two happened to be together. She tells them RM is still alive – and Marisol is his deranged sister.
He’s crazy but he’s tough:
Adolfo sits on the floor of a darkened public bathroom. Using a sharp knife, and pouring generous amounts of alcohol on the wound and down his throat, he manages to fish out the bullet. Yikes.
Renato is grateful for Igor’s efforts to save his life and now wants to bring him back to the house to live. Eva protests – Mabel and Adolfo will come looking for him – but finally agrees if Renato will explain why he faked his death.
He tells her he didn’t know who to trust and he wanted to be invisible and find out what the people around him would do in his absence.
(This reminds me of the insecure shoe store owner in François Truffaut’s Stolen Kisses -- he hires a detective to listen in on his employees and family so he can find out what they really think of him – nutty? Maybe. But downright sensible compared with faking your own death.)
He also thought his death would be the crisis that would bring his family together. He’s impressed with the way Gonzalo stepped up and he knows now that he can trust him. Eva continues to be skeptical.
Part 2 of 2
Yolanda is the one who breaks the news to Emilio that his new gal pal is a would-be murderer.
Nibaldo has a thing for damsels in distress:
He stood by Yolanda during her medical scare; now he’s in the hospital comforting a very anxious to be comforted, not to say voracious, Karen.
Hilda moves out of Emilio’s room and into the servants’ quarters downstairs.
Gonzalo intercepts Ignacia and Emilio on their way to Hialeah to find Iñaki. He persuades them to wait until tomorrow when he can join them. They tell him all their info about Iñaki is in the computer.
Javier is happy about his latest interlude with his sister-in-law; he’s glad to have the old Rebeca back, fearless and unscrupulous. But Rebeca is miserable about what happened. Alone in Gonzalo’s place, she gazes sadly at the engagement ring Matías gave her, then removes it from her finger and sets it down on a table.
In the night:
Ignacia steals a kiss from Gonzalo and then dreams – yet again -- about being murdered by him.
Gonzalo slips into Emilio’s room. He has a pair of pliers wrapped in a handkerchief. He makes a noise and Emilio startles awake and starts to talk – he thinks Hilda has come back. Gonzalo silences him by pressing the handkerchief over his face until he is ... unconscious? dead? Then Gonzo indulges in a little hard-drive vandalism until the machine is ... unconscious? dead? (which seems a little silly – the info is out there for the taking.)
In the house next door, Pilar hears a noise and peers out into the night but sees nothing. She jumps when Javier slips behind her noiselessly. He mocks her anxiety and leads her away from the window. When they leave the room, we see that Marisol is lurking in the dark...
Carola, still behind bars, has the safest night. Ignacia stops by to visit her the next day. Carola is touched by Ignacia’s belief in her innocence; she confides to her that the incriminating gun is Gonzalo’s.
Sorry I've been off the blog for a while - so busy - barely time to watch much less comment.
Last night Bobby got offed in prison. Ramon did this but I don't think they showed us how unless I missed that part. The police don't think that Adela is in any more danger.
Adela tells Daniel that he destroyed their love and she is going to marry Lopez.
Angel gets Tiberio to confirm that Lola is his daughter. He is a little confused about the Tiberio/Soledad situation.
Andres and Rodrigo try to convince Lola that Andres is a bad guy. She is doubtful about the coincidence of his turning up at the gym site so conveniently but she has already signed the partenership papers with him.
Tiberio apparently has some kind of terminal illness. Tiberio asks Angel to put some accounts in Lola's name.
Debora tries to convince Angel to get rid of Tiberio so that she can get rid of Lola. Angel appears to go along but then grabs Debora and asks why she thinks he will betray the only father he has known.
Rodrigo has a donor for a cornea transplant.
This novela has really blatant product placements. We had a big closeup of Andres' Chase credit card when he was paying the tab in the hosptial cafeteria. The other day Andres was in some car that had an automatic parking feature and then there is the commercial drama with the actor who plays Camilo.
Thanks for the recapette, Jean. I think Ramon had Bobby's food poisoned. But no one could trace the food delivery, etc., so the police have nothing. And with Bobby dead, their case is dead, too, for now.
Yes, Debora thought her plan of Angel kills Tiberio and she kills Lola would solve everything. But Angel still has deep loyalty to Tiberio. And he's not happy with Andres' meddling. So Debora is still in trouble, because Tiberio and Angel may want to kill Andres, the only one she really cares about.
Adelita is back to wearing her little girl doll outfits. Very cute. Lola was wearing a flowery chiffon halter dress with a big wide belt, shorter in the front than in the back. After she left the meeting with Andres and Rodrigo (about Angel), she was kidnapped by Tiberio's men. She tried to run in those 5 inch pumps, but oh well, at least they helped with the kicking. Eventually, she's subdued, and Tiberio pulls up in a limo, saying get in. No way, you piece of crap, she replies. I know who you are. You're Tiberio Guzman, you're Carlos Gonzales, and guess what, I also know you're my Papá! Let's see how he responds to this.
Thanks, NovelaMaven, for another stellar summary. Marisol is in the Ruiz house, but Javier's there too. If Marisol menaces Pilar, is it possible Javier will actually do something heroic?
I think Gonzalo just used that chloroform (which they had been using on Renato) to knock out Emilio, so he wouldn't know his computer is being "hacked". He'll be fine. The computer is trashed, but you're right, the info is still out there, he just needs a new computer.
I feel so sorry for Rebeca (and so jealous of Javier, as Rebeca for me is a very appealing woman. Of course, I'd NEVER take advantage of someone like that - I think :)
So, right after Ignorancia dreams that Gonzaki shoots her, she finds out that the gun Carola touched belonged to Gonzalo. Can she put two and two together and realize that maybe Gonzalo shot Adolfo? Are you kidding? It was classic how when she came to comfort Carola, all Ignacia could think about was how upset SHE was. She's really self-centered.
BTW, I don't see anything good for Omar, our new minor character. Either 1) he'll be killed by Gonzalo for meddling, or 2) HE'll be charged with shooting Adolfo, since he was in the house and Carola says she put the gun back in the drawer. Yeah - maybe Omar will have to pay!
On Tuesday's episode, both Angel and Lola used the expression, "Si por pedir fuera." I can't find in any dictionary but I guess it means, "If I could ask for something" followed by the conditional or subjunctive with 'que.'
So would this work? (I can't type accents on my work computer): Si por pedir fuera terminaria (or que termine) la lluvia aqui.
Comments?
Hombre:
'I think Gonzalo just used that chloroform (which they had been using on Renato) to knock out Emilio, so he wouldn't know his computer is being "hacked".'
Yes, of course! How could I forget about the old chloroform-soaked cloth, the psycho's best friend! And Gonzalo's "hacking" the computer -- bien hecho!
As for Ignacia, her "Enough about you, let's talk about me" shtick is positively giggle-worthy at this point.
About Omar... well, I'd like to know who this guy really is. (In any case, minor characters -- the innocent as well as the not-so-innocent -- don't make out very well on this show.)
Rebeca: She suspects Javier for killing Matias and at the same time sleeps with him!!!
Another unreasonable change for Rebeca.
Omar: I feel he will be the next victim of Inaki.
Inaki: He just wanted to scare Emilio? Otherwise he did a silly work.
Jean, I'm no expert, but could they have said Si podria pedir fuera? That might mean If I could ask for something outside (or out of the ordinary). Fuera can mean outside. But it could also mean "was going to". As we know, Si can mean if or yes, depending on whether there's an accent. Did you get this from the closed captions? The problem is there doesn't seem to be a subject in "si por pedir fuera", that's why I though it would be si podria pedir fuera, unless it means if for to ask outside, which could translate to what you said, if I could ask. I wish we had some native speakers on this topic, I know there are some commenting on other shows.
One thing I don't understand, Igor Mora was rescued and in hospital? Igor Mora was taken away from the house by Javier obtaining a writ? Gonzalo has been trying to make Javier the fall guy, so how come all of a sudden both Igor and Javier are forgotten during this escapde? I think Gonzalo would do everything to point out that it was Javier who got him out of the house.
Mi Corazon
Thanks again Hombre, your comment of Lola trying to run with those heels made me laugh. Debora still manages to steal this show.
Jean and Hombre:
About "si por pedir fuera..."
Wouldn't it mean something like "If wishes were horses (beggars would ride.)? In that case, your example should work. But I'm just guessing here.
A literal translation of the phrase gives us: "if by asking it would be".
The two verbs are pedir and ser. Where we would use the gerund "asking", in Spanish you simply use the infinitive - pedir.
Another example of the infinitive used where a gerund is used in English is: Walking is good for your health. In Spanish this would translate as Caminar mejora la buena salud. Again, infinitive as subject of sentence.
Fuera is one of the subjunctive forms of ser, used when speaking of something contrary to reality.
Novelera and NovelaMaven, thanks for your explanation. Of course, fuera="it would be". And por pedir means "by asking". Thank you.
Nellie, although Javier got the order to remove Igor Mora from the house, he was working for an unnamed client, who was a "member of Igor's family". This client was Adolfo, although the family didn't know. Remember, Adolfo wants revenge on Javier, and was able to force him to do this, or else.
So Igor Mora ended up in that remote location, guarded by Adolfo/Ismael. After Gonzaki shot Adolfmael, he left, and called the cops with a high, whiny voice. The cops arrived, and found Igor Mora (and no body). They took him to safety.
So it all makes sense.
Miami Law
El matrimonio Conde splits into two teams. Each one has one spouse and one lawyer. Renato goes with his boy Gonzalo – a man you can really trust; Eva picks Javier – insufferable, yes, but he gets the job done.
Both are charged with defending Carola but Gonzalo has a headstart. After his splendid non-advocacy, Carola gets a one-way ticket to the women’s prison and a nice new pair of white tennies.
Sisters
a. With a little nudging from Gonzalo, Ignacia forgets all about last night’s display of sisterly solidarity. Not only does she start to doubt Carola’s innocence, she tries to plant a seed of doubt in Renato’s mind.
b. Rebeca swears to Pilar that there is absolutely nothing between her and Javier. Nothing.
Omar keeps trying to help Carola. He gives Ignacia his AA business card (really?) and tells her he’s in love with Carola.
Mother and Child Reunion
Mabel agrees to listen to Iñaki’s story. When Renato walks in on their conversation, she shows what a good liar she can be, acting as if she and Gonzaki are complete strangers.
Renato charges Gonzalo with bringing Igor back to the house – and he won’t listen to any objections. The decision has been made.
It’s not Emilio’s day
First he loses his computers. Then he loses his wife (Hilda finally leaves Pee-Wee’s Playhouse). (I’m betting he grieves more over the former than the latter.) Just as Hombre predicted, he woke up fine after being Gonzoed the night before – he just prolonged his beauty sleep a bit.
The Case of the Anne Sullivan Slasher
Marisol, using a set of keys she stole the previous night, lets herself into the Ruíz house, and grabs a butcher knife from the kitchen. She cuts the palm of her hand with it (ouch) and smears her blood on the banister. When Pilar comes home, Marisol is ready to attack.
Meanwhile Hilda, about to leave for the airport, decides to see Pilar and thank her for sending Marisol to Emilio. It was just the eye-opener Hilda needed to break away from an impossible situation.
Hilda finds the door to the Ruíz home unlocked. She calls out for Pilar and gets no answer. She takes a few steps inside and notices the blood on the banister.
Upstairs, Marisol lunges at Pilar and cuts her arm with the knife. Pilar screams. Hilda approaches quietly from behind. She picks up a vase but before she can strike, Marisol turns and slashes at her, cutting her arm. This gives Pilar a moment to pick up a vase and conk Marisol over the head, leaving her unconscious and allowing the two women to run away and call for help.
We see Marisol taken into custody. Will she and Carola cross paths inside? We’re still not sure if Ricardo Merino is alive. (Maybe Marisol is a transgendered Ricardo ... just a thought...).
Pilar understands Marisol’s desperate acting out to defend her brother. She, Pilar, would do the same for Rebeca. She is so grateful that Rebeca has changed...
The Hialeah investigation suffers a setback
Ignacia disappoints her little brother. She didn’t write down Iñaki’s address. The computer is trashed. What’s a junior detective to do?
Wow, this one has gotten to the point where I can hardly watch a scene anymore that has Amanda in it. I guess the fairytale of a poor peasant girl works for a little bit, but now it's hard to watch her...uneducated and completely ignorant to the real world around her.
The latest scenes with her expecting Pablo to just take her and her sisters off to some other fairytale land to live is too much. And the other sisters wanting the same thing, albeit with Sacto...wow.
Amanda isn't even caring for her younger sisters, she just kind of bumps around town in a world of stupid.
So now we see the challenge that Zhara put out for Rafael, to make Amanda fall in love with him...sin dinero, sin amenazas. Then in the first preview we see him regalandola un caballo, lol.
Is it possible that the gringo Peter actually has an accent that bad? Dude learned some serious grammar when he "learned" Spanish but missed any chance at a decent accent. Wow.
NovelaMaven, you've done it again.
(Maybe Marisol is a transgendered Ricardo ... just a thought...).
Excellent, simply Excellent
Sometimes I wonder if this will end with Ignacia ala Angelina Jolie in Wanted, telling them to stand in a circle and then shoots everyone with one bullet. Then blows the smoke away and goes back to painting.
Marisol: thus far I didn't like this Marisol story. It's improvised.
Pilar: we didn't see Inaki's reaction to her return to home. I guess everyone expected to see it. their story seems to be paused for now. Let's see if pilar finds out about Rebeca-Javier relationship, and if yes what she will do.
Hola Rand!
"Is it possible that the gringo Peter actually has an accent that bad? Dude learned some serious grammar when he "learned" Spanish but missed any chance at a decent accent. Wow."
Possible? Oh yeah. Have you ever heard NYC Mayor Bloomberg (aka El Bloombito) speak Spanish? If not, check out this video: El Alcalde Bloomberg habla sobre su esfuerzo por aprender español.
http://tinyurl.com/3rbbsl6
Actually, the gringo with the horrible accent is a stock telenovela character. I don't know about the guy in "Flor", but more often than not, the actor is actually a native speaker of Spanish. Maybe it's a bit of payback for all those stereotypically bad Hispanic dudes in American movies.
Thanks, Nellie!
"Sometimes I wonder if this will end with Ignacia ala Angelina Jolie in Wanted, telling them to stand in a circle and then shoots everyone with one bullet. Then blows the smoke away and goes back to painting."
Great image. The way Siachoque plays Ignacia -- especially lately with that little squinty eye thing she's been doing -- I have no doubt the character would be cold-hearted enough.
Alex, I'm betting Pilar finds out about Javier and Rebeca very soon. I hope her response is to get away from both of them and the accursed Conde clan. But we both know that would be much too rational for a telenovela character:-)
NovelaMaven, another great recap, and I love your idea about Marisol as a transgendered Ricardo. He did seem as crazy as we've been told he was.
I got the impression that what happened to Ricardo is that he was accused of raping or sexually harassing Pilar, Javier pressed charges, and Ricardo had to spend years in jail, when he didn't even do it. They didn't exactly say this, but there was something about Javier pressing charges.
As for who conked Pilar, we did see some black shoes and pants, which I thought were from a male, although you couldn't really tell from the small portion they showed. So I think Ricardo does exist, and is still out there. I was happy they arrested the neighbor after all her lying. She apparently supplied Marisol with the arsenic.
Nellie, I love your idea of Ignacia blowing everyone away at the end. But it could also be Pilar. Everyone has dumped on her, especially Javier, Ignacia and Rebeca. Could the meek mannered therapist go ape?
Gonzalo was not too happy about a number of things. 1) He has to bring Igor Mora back to the house 2) he's prohibited from seeing Mabel 3) he's being challenged as a lawyer by Javier. I can't believe I'm actually rooting for Javier this time!
Tiberio takes Lola in his limo, and they hide from the cops and have a talk. He offers her money, houses, nothing in return, just wants her and Chabelita to be happy. She rejects it all, all she wants is her Mom back. But he won't agree to this.
Lola doesn't know this, but Tiberio also orders Angel to put lots of money in a bank account in Soledad's name, to go to Lola if Soledad dies. Tiberio does tell Soledad about this. He just can't get it through his head that no matter how generous he is now, what he did in the past to Soledad, to all those women, all his killings, etc., can never be forgiven by Soledad or Lola.
Tiberio only has 3 months to live from some disease, but doesn't tell anyone. He does say to someone that when he goes, Soledad goes with him. Felix and Angel both think he's changed (for the worse, according to them - too nice now). Over the course of the episode, Angel gets more and more upset with Tiberio. At first his loyalty to his padrino trumps everything. But by the end of the episode, he's seriously considering killing him, especially after Soledad tells Angel she knew Angel's mother, and Tiberio KILLED her, before taking Angel under his wing!
NovelaMaven, how do I love thee (thy recaps, I mean), let me count the ways! This one was stellar.
Miami Law - yep, what was that all about? Was it a preliminary hearing? Why couldn't the family be in the courtroom? Why didn't anyone mention bail, if only to say it had been denied?
You threw in a Simon & Garfunkel reference: mother & child reunion for Mabel and Gonzaki. Great irony.
The Annie Sullivan Slasher - a Miracle Worker reference - loved it. The actor playing Marisol brought the crazy all right. I think Javier must have done something really rotten to Ricardo. Pilar rejecting his amorous advances wouldn't have been enough to produce that much rage.
Omar being in love with Carola makes no sense whatsoever. I was buying that he was a very zealous AA guy and wanted to be her sponsor. But love? He saw her sucking up drinks in a night club a couple of times, and she's done nothing but insult him since. Please.
For once I was on Eva's side. Javier may actually get some justice for Carola.
Rand, I understand what you said, but I'm not yet cynical about the character of Amanda. I was disappointed that she bought what he was telling her about the petrolero's strike. But she's in love, when she never thought she would be, and living for the hope of a life away from the 4 P's and Rafael, who repulses her.
Timothy Janssen, alias Gringo Peter, has posted a couple of times on Telenovela World, in English. Judging by his name, he would appear not to be a native Spanish speaker affecting a bad Spanish accent.
What's interesting to me now is the two approaches to change represented by Pablo and Sacramento. I'm not sure if we're supposed to believe Pablo is really coming up with realistic ways to end the strike that will benefit the town and the petroleros, or if he's carrying water for Rafa and the company to feather his own nest.
I thought that was a pretty exciting episode. Of course, we knew Lola was not going to accept anything from Tiberio. Have to admit, I almost felt sorry for him.
I think Tiberio's plan is to kill Soledad when he's closer to the end and, thus, Lola will inherit what he's had Ángel put in that bank account in Soledad's name.
I gotta admit I enjoyed seeing Ángel choke Débora a bit. For once she had no way out of her scheming. Saying it was joke didn't work for a second. And, to top off her magical thinking, she thinks Andrés is going to leave the country with her, leaving Chabelita behind, when he can hardly stand to be in the same room with her?
That was an excellent scene with Soledad and Ángel. I just hope this doesn't cause Ángel to take Débora up on her offer of working together.
Novelera and Hombre,
Aw thanks -- your nice words made my day.
It occurs to me that Omar is going about his courtship of Carola all wrong. If he really wants to get her attention, he needs to seduce Ignacia first. And really, how hard would that be?
About the mysterious black shoes and pants -- I wonder if they belong to someone we already know...
But doesn't Pilar find out about Javier and "changed sis" in tonight's episode - that was the preview, I hope it's not a teaser like the rest of this week has been.
Wow! haha. You know, I've seen him several times during the news on Telemundo, I always thought he was just reading some Spanish and probably didn't really understand all of it.
Easily the worst accent ever, dude has 1st place sewn up before we even start the comp! haha.
Gotta give him some credit I suppose for learning a little bit but what can I say, that accent is a train wreck :)
Here he is in a scene from "Ojo por Ojo". The one that never made it to air here in the states...

Maybe this guy really does sound like this. He's just as goofy in Ojo as he is in Flor.
Tonite's episode looked a little like a faux finale: Rodrigo can see again, Danny is clean and sober, Adelita is happily engaged, Sofia and Rodrigo are friends, Tiberio is dying...what's left? I wonder if they will kill off Tiberio so Angel can take over as Main Bad Guy?
